I had read other reviews about this product that complained about paying for "water weight" and it not being enough to do the 1 pound per 1 gallon the way other gravel does. I will say you are not getting the same amount as you would if you bought dry gravel. But not having to go through the rinse process is very nice. The water is very cloudy for the first few hours and is still somewhat cloudy about 16 hours later. However, 40 pounds did cover the floor of my 36 gallon bow front tank very nicely. And if you are torn between gravel and sand, this is a nice size. I am not sure about its claims about not needing to cycle the water, but everything else seems good.
