I have one of the seemingly rare "square" sock holders ... rather than changing it up, I found replacements online. These socks clean really good (at least they get dirty in my tank really fast!). I wash them by hand and dry them in the sun ... as good as new.
I've washed mine dozens of times in the last 6 months and they look close to brand new every time. One thing to remember is to let them dry out in the sun when they are fully cleaned and to wash from both the inside and outside of the bag (backwashing) so that all of the pores become unclogged. It captures the smallest particles when fully cleaned so if you maintain them, they'll last a long time.
