DrTim's Aquatics Clear-UP Natural water Clarifier Freshwater, 4-Ounce

DrTim's Aquatics Clear-UP Natural water Clarifier Freshwater, 4-OunceWorked well. I have to do additional work on my tank, but the product does work. I would recommend it for mild cloudiness.

Directions need to be followed which clearly state to wait 15 minutes for starting the filter pumps. I have used many products. I have worked many years with local Aquarium outlets when I have trouble with water quality.

I am very happy that I purchased. It was a great compliment to the quality of the water. I now use every product from Dr.Tim's without the need to consult local store. Easy directions to follow with results.

It would be great if the local stores would stock this brand.

This is supposed to be live bacteria acting like a flocculant. So maybe I had the bad luck of receiving a dead batch.

Adding Clear-Up to aid in the removal of fine particulate matter in mildly cloudy water and adding the same amount of water had exactly the same effect. Either the bacteria were all dead, or this only works in extremely cloudy water, or this product is a total dud.

I've been using Seachem Clarity for quite a few years now and yet has to see any negative effects of "harmful" chemicals. And Seachem Clarity actually works reducing mildly or heavily clouded water to crystal clarity in a few hours. Repeated applications of Clear-Up over a three day period only managed to increase the cloudiness of my mood.

Sorry Dr Tim. I either got a dead batch of bacteria or your team might need to return to the drawing board on this one.

One the other hand your Waste-Away product reducing organic waste build up appears to work quite well.

Panacea Products APN70008 100 Count Pan Marbles for Aquarium, Lustre Clear

Panacea Products APN70008 100 Count Pan Marbles for Aquarium, Lustre ClearThis is the same bag of marbles you'll see for $1.99 from other suppliers. The price is higher to account for "free" prime shipping.

The "vase" in the picture is not actually a vase; it appears to be a small 3x3x3 votive candle holder. Nice picture, but to be clear you're not really going to fill a vase with just one $8 bag.

The upshot is that it only takes about 2 bags per vase to weigh it down sufficiently.

There weren't as many as I thought there would be (I know the number was listed in the description). I guess I'm not good at visualizing the number of marbles. I just thought there would be more for the price.

Nano Cube 24 Gallon Deluxe

Nano Cube 24 Gallon DeluxeAt first I loved this tank. I had an older 5 gal nano cube from a different company and I bought this to "upgrade". I used the cube for saltwater for my two seahorses and some coral. It was the perfect size and would have been my favorite tank, had it worked.

These animals/coral had lived for a few years in my 5 gal nano. Sadly, they lasted only three months in this new tank before they all died. The tanks had been running for four months, including the initial set up time/cycling of the new tank. I am an avid aquarist who has been raising livestock for several years, so trust me that I did all the normal maintenance you would normally do on a tank, including water changes, cleaning, water testing, etc.

I found the root of the problem and the cause of the crash was the filter. The shaft that holds the propeller in the pump RUSTED and caused the pump to fail. Who designs a pump that RUSTS?????

Also, the design of the filter is flawed and I don't feel it gets enough oxygen in the water. IF you are going to buy this tank for saltwater, use a different pump (one that isn't going to rust on you) and invest in a nano skimmer to increase the oxygen in the water.

My friend had the same nano cube and his crashed after only two months. He doesn't know the source of the problem, but I imagine it is the same situation.

Also, the lid is designed and built really cheap. The front flip lid broke after one month of use.

I imagine this will be just fine for freshwater since it is not as corrosive of an agent as saltwater and may take longer to rust the pump.

You all think YOU have issues with the Nano Cube, ha , you haven't seen nothing yet. I got mine brand new, it took an hour to setup on the stand and fill with water, once i plugged in the lighting smoke and flames (no kidding) came out of the hood! Not only that the ballast also had smoke billowing from it, so don't talk to me about a rusty filter! That is nothing compared to the Nano from Hell! I have lost time, money and my sanity all do to this stupid tank. Oh wait, I forgot, the stand is just as bad because its the worst piece of furniture i have ever had the displeasure of trying to put together. This is the worst decision and investment we have made in all our aquarist years. Please notice that i am not allowed to rate less than 1 but this is a -------0.

My friend purchased this tank a few years ago and developed it for a saltwater tank. It can be tough to use for saltwater, but it is do-able. She made the required equipment upgrades (lighting, etc), and I believe later on the pump did have to be replaced. I am not aware that rust was an issue. It is a beautiful tank with a crystal clear view on three sides. We have noticed one problem: the fish are able to "jump" over the interior back wall, where they end up in the reservoir area with the pump. I've seen it happen a few times, and we have yet to resolve the issue. She keeps corals, red & blue legged hermit crabs, snails, clownfish, and a seahorse.

This is a great tank for Salt/Fresh water. I've never had fresh water in mine but I have a friend running fresh and he says it's great. I have a Saltwater setup in mine and it has been wonderful as well. The PC lighting on it is good, Bulbs seem to last about 6 months before they need to be replaced. These lights will support most easy care coral (mushrooms, ric's, zoas, hammer/frogspawn) and any fish. The filter is fine for a small bioload and with 1 1.2 lbs/gal of live rock you can keep quite a bit. I've had mine for about a year, here is what I have.

Clean up crew -

4 x nas snails

1 x sand sifting sea star

3 x astra snails

1 x turbo snail

1 x emerald crab

fish -

2 x damsels this is what I started with and the GF won't let me get rid of them

Corals-

1 x Hammer

4 x Ricordia

4 x Mushrooms

some Oulophyllia

and Lots of Zoanthids

**DO NOT PUT A FULL REEF IN THIS AS IT WAS NEVER INTENDED FOR THAT, YOU WILL HAVE TO DO A LOT OF UPGRADES AND IT IS NOT WORTH IT. IF YOU WANT SPS, CLAIMS, HARD CORALS OR A TON OF STUFF START WITH A MORE EXPENSIVE SETUP AND READ READ READ.

THIS IS A WONDERFULLY EASY PLUG AND PLAY SETUP. ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS FIL UP THE TANK WITH WATER AND PLUG IT IN. IT HAS EVERYTHING BUILT IN SO YOU NO WORRIES IF YOU HAVE EVERYTHING. WHEN SOMEONE HAS A BAD EXPERIENCE THEY FEEL THEY SHOULD SHARE IT WITH THE WORLD. WHEN SOMEONE HAS A GOOD EPERIENCE VERY RARELY DO THEY FIND THE NEED TO SHARE THAT EXPERIENCE. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS AQUARIUM SETUP TO ANYONE OF ANY AGE OR AQUARIUM EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD LIKE AN ALL INCLUSIVE GREAT LOOKING AQUARIUM FOR THE HOME OR OFFICE.

Exotic Environments Palm Tree Island Aquarium Ornament

Exotic Environments Palm Tree Island Aquarium Ornament, Medium, 10-Inch by 6-Inch by 6-1/2-InchThis product is only 12" wide and 9" tall. I wonder if the large is actually bigger than the x-large. I will return this.

UPDATE: I purchased a "large" palm to put in the same tank as my "x-large". Both are now in a 29 gallon tank. I have no idea who determined the sizing and how, but the large is about 33% LARGER than the "x-large". The large has a much thicker base, is rather tall and makes a nice centerpiece in a 29G. I would recommend both but they definitely screwed up on the sizing.

____________ Original Review _____________

I did a beach theme in my 10 gallon tank and this extra large palm tree island is perfect! The leaves are nice and soft and sway in the current. The other reviewer was correct, this is smaller than stated. This palm is probably about 10" high; it doesn't stick out of the water of my 10 gallon tank and a 10 gallon is only about 12" tall. It is a high quality decoration and the fish enjoy it, would definitely recommend it for shorter tanks (10 gallon, 20Long, etc) if you want it to fill most of the height of the tank.

Perfecto Manufacturing APF34305 Glass Canopy Aquarium, 36 by 18-Inch

Perfecto Manufacturing APF34305 Glass Canopy Aquarium, 36 by 18-InchMy husband asked me to write this review because he was relieved when we got it.

This glass canopy lid for the aquarium is ONE PIECE. It is hinged in the middle. This means, you don't have to worry about lifting the side to feed the fish and having the whole thing come up. It also opens to the front (as most aquarium lids should) instead of the middle (yes, I've seen this). It is heavy enough that there is no movement when you open the lid to drop food in or whatever you need to do inside the tank.

We topped it with Aqueon Coralife 05619 Aqualight T5 Freshwater Dual Lamp Fixture, 36-Inch which fits perfectly with this lid. We have absolutely no complaints about this lid. It is a good, solid lid that looks great on top, had a good plastic, raised handle. We highly recommend it!

Might be an okay cover, but I wouldn't know since it arrived with pieces of glass falling out of the box. Not sure whose idea it was to ship a glass aquarium cover in a box without a "fragile" or "glass" label and with only a single piece of crinkled paper for padding, but this product is no good unless it arrives in one piece.

Glo T5 HO Linear Fluorescent Lighting System Single

Hagen Glo T5 Ho Linear Fluorescent Lighting System, Single, 24-InchI had problems with too little light on my 20 gallon high tank. The stock hood only allowed for 15 watts of regular flourescent light which was barely enough even for low light plants. I bought this as an upgrade to the stock lighting and this has been a great choice. It is affordable, solidly built, and is a great choice for a medium/low range planted tank (more to the medium range). Being only 24 watts I was quite worried that it may be insufficient, but the T5HO system really puts out a lot of light! The plants in my 20H tank have shown increased growth and better coloration. When you buy this make sure to pick up a bulb and a timer for convenience. You can skip the timer if you really want but then you will have to unplug/depower it at night or when you want the light off (it does not have an on/off switch!). I recomend the Sylvania analog timer for this one. It allows you to run it on an accurate and dependable schedule and if you just want to turn it on or off you can just push the switch to on(untimed) or off and not ruin your preset (timed) schedule.

But this item to me is very expensive. Got a good price vs pet stores, however. Hope it lasts $70 worth.

The housing for this is awesome and exactly what I needed. Five stars!

This was delivered in a box possibly five times larger than it needed to be with nothing but two pieces of paper for protection. The Amazon box it was shipped in was beat up and a flap was open on one end. When I opened up the box to get to my lamp I was disheartened to see that the box the light set was in was also beat up and opened. Thankfully everything was sturdy enough to handle the beating it very obviously took except the bulb. It of course was busted and there was tiny shards of glass everywhere. EVERYWHERE.

The product is great the delivery was horrible. So four stars! Buy this bad boy if you're in the market but be wary of the packaging. Hopefully they'll step up their game and get it right so this won't be an issue for anyone else!

*Update:

I was recently informed by the retailer of this item being listed on Amazon.com, that they had the incorrect pricing for the Hagen GLO T-5 24" single lighting fixture.

Specifically, the Website listed a value pack for $43.35,

which was supposed to include two Hagen GLO T-5 24" X 24 watt lighting fixtures. However, FancyPants.com, the retailer selling this product, stated that they had made a mistake in regard to the listing for this product, and that the $43.35 was for a single GLO T-5 24" fixture not two of these fixtures.

For my inconvenience, they split the cost of what I would have paid for each light in the value pack ($21.68 each) vs the $43.35 price for one of these lights. The difference came to about $10, so even though I did not get these lights for $21.68 each, I did purchase the one light for about $31 + shipping, which is still an excellent value, when one considers that most of the retailers who sell this particular Hagen GLO fixture, sell it for at least $80 without the bulb.

Earlier...

After purchasing a GLO 24" X 24 watt lighting fixture for $51.30, including the shipping cost, I recently purchased a value pack from the same seller on Amazon.com, which included two Hagen GLO 24" X 24 watt single fixtures for $51.30 delivered.

The same price that I paid for just one of these light fixtures a month and half earlier.

This works out to $21.68 per light fixure, or about 25% of what these lights each usually retail for.

So if you are in the market for a linear T-5 lighting system that is well made, aesthically pleasing to the eye and very useful in growing all types of aquatic plants, the Hagen T-5 lights should be on your shortlist.

Earlier...

Since getting back into the fishkeeping hobby three and a half years ago after a 22 year hiatus I have setup several aquariums. At the time that I was starting my first aquarium, the Hagen GLO T-5 lighting systems had only been on the market few a few months.

As with all of the components that I would end up purchasing, I researched them before making these purchases.

The articles that I had read on T-5 were very positive, so I decided to research the different manufacturers of T-5 linear fluorescent light fixtures, and found that the Hagen GLO series were receiving many positive reviews.

The fixtures were described as being well constructed with durable ballasts and very bright light, due to the polished reflectors Hagen includes with its GLO units, while being competitively priced.

I purchased my first Hagen GLO T-5 in the fall of 2009.

I was so pleased with it that I have since purchased four additional GLO fixtures for my planted aquaria; including the most recent addition a single 24" 24 watt GLO T-5 fixture being sold at a closeout price of $43.99. This is about $40 less than this particular fixture usually sells for, so I bought it for a Pandy Cory tank that I was in the process of setting up.

The GLO T-5 lights really do an excellent job of growing all types of aquatic plants, including carpeting plants such as baby tears, microsword and dwarf hairgrass.

These are durable lighting systems that only require a cleaning every few months to operate at their best. Every three months or so, I will unplug the GLO fixture that I am cleaning, remove its bulb(s) and then proceed to clean it with a solution of one part vinegar to three parts water. I also clean the bulbs with this solution, then dry them before reinstalling them in the fixture.

The water/vinegar solution works very well at removing any minerals that have hardened on the fixture, so that its reflective surface remains clear. It is this highly polished reflective surface which allows for a greater amount of light to reach your plants.

I have noticed that some pet stores no longer carry the Hagen GLO fixtures, including Drs. Foster And Smith. I can only conclude that these retailers are investing in lighting systems that employ the use of LED bulbs, because of their long life.

However, having recently purchased an LED fixture for a ghost shrimp tank that I had started at the same time as the Panda Cory tank, I find that there is a lot more value in my T-5 fixtures than there is this particular LED fixture.

The fixture works well enough, however, it does not provide enough light to grow plants that require moderate to high light. And at about $119 retail (I got mine for less), one could purchase two Hagen GLO T-5 24" 24 watt single lights, and have enough money left over to purchase T-5 bulbs for each of these fixtures.

In addition, the GLO lights are better constructed.

And LED fixtures in general, tend to be more expensive than their T-5 counterparts, for a similar amount of power.

Moreover, quality control issues with some LED fixtures have been reported by a number of consumers.

The main purpose of purchasing LED fixtures is that they are supposed to be more efficient than other forms of aquatic lighting, and purported to last much longer.

However, a number of consumers have reported that some of the LED bulbs in their fixtures failed prematurely, oftentimes just after the warranty had expired.

As a result, they were left with a light fixture that could not be repaired, and forced to invest in a new fixture. Of course, many other LED users have had much better experiences with their lighting systems.

As for the Hagen GLO T-5 fixtures, they are well built, aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and do an excellent job of providing light for one's plants.

The fact that they are often heavily discounted because of the new LED lighting craze only adds to their allure. So if you decide that a Hagen GLO T-5 fixture is for you, shop around for the best deal. You may end up saving 50% or more.

Highly recommended!

Zoo Med MagClip Magnetic Suction Cups

Zoo Med MagClip Magnetic Suction Cupsnothing much to say, but there are many sizes. the magnets works well, but with all of the sizes none are the right size to hold aquarium heaters. also, you only receive one set which means one magnet attaches to the outside of the aquarium and the other magnet is attached (screwed in) to the clip. the picture shown is deceptive. The picture shown with an Eheim Heater (I own the 75w version) may work (looks a little loose in the picture), but Eheim has a much better system for suction cups which has a brace between 2 suction cups for much less money. The mag clip does not accommodate the 3 other heaters I own. If you're looking for suction cups for aquarium heaters, specifically put that in the search bar, and you'll get better results.

These things are great, being able to adjust items in your tank without having to get your hand wet is wonderful. They lack all sizes though so that can be rather annoying. I have an Eheim filter and they do not fit the fill tube on the filter and they don't fit on the heater very well. A couple more sizes included would be very helpful.

The biggest knock (and only) I have on these things are the price. You get ONLY 1 per package for you $5.

Work great! Placed in my saltwater tank on two heaters, thermometer, and even a power head. My only complaint is the same as other reviewers: clips can be difficult to screw in and for all the sizes none were a great fit for my heater but I was able to get by.

Bullet 1 High Performance Skimmer - Up to 150 gal.

Bullet 1 High Performance Skimmer - Up to 150 gal.Solid workhorse skimmer, easy to clean, flexible pump options, has an output on the skimmer cup for an auxiliary waste collector.

Currently coasting along on a ~100gal system (75gal DT, 30gal sump) I say "coasting" as this Bullet 1 is skimming like a fiend, producing plenty of thick nasty skimmate, & rated for 150gal.

Use a gate valve to allow fine adjustment once dialed in I've rarely had to adjust it.

Don't bother with skimmers that require you to use a specific pump far too much hassle, too limiting.

Current pump is a Mag 12, which itself is an excellent pump (immersible too).

Skimmer can be mounted outside or inside a sump in this case, internal on a short stand.

Highly recommended.

Will be buying its bigger brother the Bullet 2 (rated up to 250gal) when upgrading to a 180gal tank + 40 gal sump.

Two Little Fishies ATLAS3B Aquastik, 4-Ounce, Grey

Two Little Fishies ATLAS3B Aquastik, 4-Ounce, GreyThere are plenty of complainers who seem to spend more because of selfmade problems to fix and I can only laugh at them. Flat out I have not read about anything that works better or lasts longer than epoxy putties. I had no need to look for anything better than epoxy putties! I used all colors Instant ocean Holdfast white, Oceanswonders purple coralline, Two little fishies stone grey and Coralline red and they all work the same so I was able to mix them for custom colors and or unique tints. My technique is simple I prepared the areas for epoxy bond by roughing up and drilling the bond surfaces for maximum grabification. The rest was simple one application and I dont think I ever had to bond anything twice. I am glad I am possibly the only one to leave a 5 star rating knowing I used the right products for my high end decor set up to acheive the most professional look and nothing McKey moused or McGyvered so it will last for many years unchanged. I built a professional show quality FOWLR aquarium with a 100% artificial reef and the decor is completely made using Natures image coral and Red sea deco art all custom displayed on custom made Alterra grey rocks I covered with coralline colors for then marine rock effect. Best of all knowing my entire decor has 0 impact on any ocean reef and is 100% eco friendly makes for great conversation and pride. The live rock and aragonite crystal white sand are cultured and all my fish are tank raised by USA breeders. The wonderful smell of farting out roses is not only bliss but also saves alot of money! The epoxy putties have the most god aweful stanky odor when you start but after it fully cures it is completely odorless and proven fish safe cured or not. Oh and dont forget to use gloves because it can irritate skin.

Easy to manipulate and take prey very fast, even underwater. Much easier to use than similar products! I recommend without a doubt.

It warned me on the package to turn off my skimmer because of excessive bubbles. They weren't kidding, even water in my filter sock was bubbling out. You don't see bubbles in the tank. Not a bad thing in that I can live with the protein skimmer turned off for 30 hours but just be aware of it. But you don't have much choice if you need to epoxy your frag plugs into your live rock. I ordered the grey because that was the only color avaialbe for Amazon's Prime (free shipping). Much cheaper than local fish store.

These are useless to hold corals in place but do have some value in gluing rocks together. However, you have to use a lot to get the rocks to stay put. The same stuff can be bought at the hardware store for less than 1/2 the cost. Super glue gel is a much better option for attaching corals and frag plugs.

This stuff isnt bad, but its like hard to use because it doesnt stick very well to surfaces without like noticeable pores. I have found that if you dip the putty into the water like half way through mixing it, it works better because its softer and its more workable

I bought this pump to replace the one in my office fountain which died after about 8 years.

It doesn't look quite like the picture but that doesn't matter. It fit into the required space and connected to the existing tubing. There were several other connective options in the package which I didn't need.

On the lowest setting it moves the water up approx 2 1/2 feet and spills it over the top. MOST IMPORTANTLY, it does so silently!

This little pump is SUPER quiet, didn't make a sound when I tried it out. I am using it to transfer aging water from a sterilite container to my aquarium. It did make it up the 4 feet as stated but its a little slower than I like so I have ordered the next one up and will return this one. It doesn't look like the photo which is a bit frustrating and it doesn't have adapters that you can screw a hose to. It did come with 3 adapters and one of them is the same size as my aquaeon water changer tubing so if I was to keep it I could just order some extra hose like that. In the meantime I used a 1/2" hose cut off and it was a little loose so I had to duct tape it. The larger model appears to have some threaded adapters I am hoping to just attach with a garden hose, either 1/2" or 3/4".

Tetra SafeStart Treats

Tetra 77961 SafeStart Treats, 30-Gallon, 100-ml, 3.38-OunceA little context, I use this site quite a bit and rarely review. i felt the need to jump in and supply some details about my experience.

We have a new 10g aquarium that we purchased 6 weeks ago for our 2 year old son's enjoyment. understanding the cycling phases that we had to go through,we entered the process with eyes wide open, at least we thought. We had a fish die about every 3 days and I purchased a kit to test levels and saw that we were off the charts. I wrestled with 50% tank changes and kept the tank very clean, as fish were still dying it felt hopeless. Our son grew frustrated not having any fish to enjoy, and our tank looked no closer to cycling than when we started.

Some research later, I came upon this product, why not give it a shot, can't hurt! It arrived mid day and i checked my levels before i put in the product and the water was clearly toxic. 24 hours later the tank was tested again and it had FULLY cycled! We took a sample in to the petstore to verify and they said the water is cycled and perfect for new fish. I am happy to report a perfectly balanced ecosystem becausse of this product.

I hope this post helps people decide to go for it, fantastic product, my fish thank you!

PS. We have had great success with our tank and have since moved to a much larger 26 gallon tank. I purchased this product to cycle it for us, and once again, within 1 day perfect ecosystem and no fatalities! You guys really did this right!

We moved my daughter's 7-inch goldfish "Willow" into a 55 gallon tank kind of on the spot. We were going on a 3 day trip away from home and realized the fish wasn't going to fare well in her little tank up in my daughter's bedroom without her daily water change. We had been discussing setting up a larger tank, but where it would go, how large, and if we would be adding more fish were in the debate and research process. Now with this "emergency" we made our decisions that we would be getting some more fish, and that goldfish needed large tanks for best safety for them. We decided on the largest tank we could find at the zero hour and worry about adding tank mates later.

After the trip I found that I had to do almost daily water changes and ammonia treatment even in the big new tank! I looked all over the internet and got educated on tank cycling. The problem is, we had already thrown out or let dry out all of the old media and had no bacteria to cycle the tank with. Information suggested Willow would be cycling that big tank for months all on her own. I doubted it would ever establish without killing her first.

Tetra Safestart has been the rescuer. It didn't work instantly, it took 7 days for all readings to come to .25, 0, 5.0 (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate respectively) but her water was about 68 degrees and our normal tap PH is 8.2. High PH and cold water probably slowed it down along with such a light bio-load. I did make the fortunate mistake of trying to lower her water PH by .2 which likely helped the cycling along.

The Safestart was added 17 days before I write this and the readings are still holding, the ammonia is actually a little less but not quite zero. Yes, I know I should vacuum more often. I have de*nitrate stuffed in the filters here and there to absorb nitrates. I haven't need to do water changes for any other reason but the PH levels since adding Safestart. 7 days after starting her tank cycle, I used the swish-ings from the filters to cycle a quarantine tank for the incoming new tenants. Their tank cycled even faster! That is enough to convince me that this bacteria continues to live, reproduce and re-establish itself. It's the right kind of bacteria, I highly recommend this product.

My tank had been cycling for about a month and the nitrites were ridiculously high and it seemed like no matter how many water changes I did they wouldn't go down. I ordered this product thinking that it could do nothing but help if it actually worked. I ordered the bottle for 70 gallons for my 40 gallon tank and used as instructed. By the next day my nitrites had dropped and by the end of the week they were zero. The next week I added about 6 fish and over the course of the week neither ammonia or nitrites rose. Its been about 2 weeks since I added those last round of fish and everything appears to be stable.I totally recommend this product to everyone who is a little impatient to wait for a full cycle.

Here is how we used this product:

1. bought a 20 gallon tank, set up with water, gravel, filter, etc. and let it run a few days while awaiting SafeStart delivery.

2. Ordered safestart 250 ml (good for 75 gallon)

3. Got the delivery promptly; the expiration date on the bottle was in a full year--menaing, the stuff was freshly packaged.

4. Got 3 platies, added them to tank same time as poured in 1/4 of the bottle (shook the bottle before pouring)

5. Fed the fish, tested the water.

6. On day 5 ammonia was rising to .5 ppm and no trace of nitrites or nitrates...so decided Safestart failed.

7. Reread the instructions on Safestart. It said add the ENTIRE bottle. so I shook the bottle hard and added the rest to the tank, plus washed out the bottle with tank water.

8. Tank water got cloudy, meaning bacterial bloom.

9. The next day ammonia and nitrites were 0, nitrates were 10ppm...

10. TANK IS CYCLED!

2 possibilities why my first attempt did not work:

a. Maybe there was not enough "food" for bacteria when I first added Safestart, and it worked better when there was ammonia present.

b. Maybe you have to add the whole bottle cuz bacteria settle on the bottom even if you shake the bottle...

This bacterial supplement product is the ONLY one out there that actually works. It has REAL bacteria in it and not the dead stuff you find in most of these type of products. It is a pity that local fish stores or large pet marts push other products that dont work. They must get kick backs from them or something.

I have used this product after I had to medicate a fish tank (which destroys good bacteria)...when I had ammonia or nitrites spikes (even after I have an already cycled tank). This cured all problems within a day. This adds more of the good bacteria to your tank and literally neutralizes any threats. You dont have to use this all the time, like other bacteria supplements...just when you need it. Brilliant product!

Lee's Kritter Keeper, Large Rectangle with Lid, Colors may Vary

Lee's Kritter Keeper, Large Rectangle with Lid, Colors may VaryPro...the price for three gallon size is great

Pro...It's made in the USA

But...

Con...It's made of very thin plastic and cracks easily so I would not get this to hold fish. I barely bumped the Kritter Keeper and it put a crack at the bottom which means you have to be VERY CAREFUL when you clean this thing out in the sink to not bump it.

So I would not recommend this to hold betta fish or any fish at all since it cracked so easily.

The dimensions for this keeper are actually smaller than what they say. Instead of being 14.5" it's only 12, which makes a big difference. I had a much smaller keeper before, so the new room makes all the difference. All in all, I wish it was bigger, but I'm happy with what I have.

edit: My mouse has started eating through the cover! Within 20 minutes she almost got through the entire thing. I put some duck tape on the hole and it seems to be holding up well. Just thought I'd warn you!

These are essentially the same thing as the plastic terrariums sold in your local pet store for about the same price.

The plastic is very clear and you can see everything inside. The ventilated lids allow for great air circulation and will prevent humidity build up inside.

When I first got these I was concerned that the ventilated plastic lids would break easily, but after using them for several months I have found them to be surprisingly durable.

I ordered several of these, and what is great about them compared to glass tanks is that this plastic variety are stackable. When not in use I can stack a whole heap of these things together and save a lot of storage space, something I can not do with the glass versions.

My only complaint is that the connection where the lids snap on is very tight, and it causes a loud snapping noise and a bit of vibration when you take them off. This may or may not disturb the creatures you have inside, in my case it did. This is a minor complaint though, these are an incredible value.

This tank holds around 3.8 gallons, making it great for a betta or hospital tank. However it arrived with a cracked bottom corner, so it will not hold water. I'm not sure whether or not it was damaged during shipping or not, but either way I am not spending the money to send it back.

I bought two of these for my bettas, since I breed them. Currently I have 3 Males, and 6 Females.

Anyways the shipping took a little longer than I would have liked but it wasn't bad. They got here and I was happy with what I bought. Then I noticed that one of them has a large crack in the bottom. So I will need to call the company and get an exchange.

I think these will work fine for what I need them for, but actual glass tanks will be better in the future.

I'll update later....

Ocean Treasures Collection Ot6004 6-Gallon Outback Aquarium Kit

Ocean Treasures Collection Ot6004 6-Gallon Outback Aquarium KitOverall this fish tank is great. It fits perfectly on my desktop. The only issue I have is that the LED light that it comes with cannot be hooked up to a timer. The hood/light are so custom that I had to order a submersible light to get around this issue.

This is the "budget brother" of the original......The original Ocean Treasures aquariums have a center tube to funnel all the wires. The original also comes with a "REEF" to completely hide the wires. The original is also close to $400!!

The photo can be a bit deceiving as this unit DOES NOT INCLUDE A REEF. If you want the reef, you can get it for around $30 at petsmart.

HOWEVER, for the money, we are very happy with this unit. The LED light stick is very nice; and the small filtration unit is sufficient for an aquarium this size. Set up is easy. Just be aware you will need a heater; and, because of it's heigth, a bubbler is a must.

Tetra 77137 Water Clarifier, 16.90-Ounce, 500-ml

Tetra 77137 Water Clarifier, 16.90-Ounce, 500-mlTotal waste of money it will actually make your water worse. This product should be refined to better quality. I would not recommend this product.

I used this product on 2 of my tanks. One tank contained a red bay snook and my other tank held 2 goldfish and 2 small tinfoil barbs. It cleared up my snook tank beautifully. I used a half dose on my small fish tank and within an hour, both barbs were dead? The goldfish were unaffected. It says in the written description on the back, "Safe for fish." I contacted the company and explained to them what happened. They were very helpful and willing to connect me with the warranty department. (2 stars for that). I told them I just wanted information regarding this product so I could avoid anymore poisoned fish. She didn't have an answer for me. She was going to have someone from the company contact me on the next business day. Never happened. I threw the product out. Based on my own experience and the little info I have, I won't be using this product again.

I have goldfish and was hoping this would help to clarify the water between cleanings. Unfortunately I don't think it has much, if any, effect on the water clarity. So not really worth it from what I can tell.

Unlike the clumping type clarifier or the potassium permanganate this clarifier uses bio chem product to clear water so it does not clog pump filter or turn water black for 24 hours

Tetra Water Clarifier does an alright job clearing up the water, but not nearly as well as the more concentrated drop solutions you can find here. I've since switched over to API Accu-Clear.

PondCare Accu-Clear Water Clarifier

PondCare Accu-Clear Water Clarifier, 8-OunceGreat -amazing -product for cleaning pond. Have to be careful using around dog and manufacturer says it breaks up after 24 hours so that's very good. I used in combination with Pond-Zyme and it was great.

We have a six-month old 4000 gallon garden pond with a few goldfish, minnows and sparse plantings. In May the water became cloudy. We want to manage the pond naturally, so we added barley straw,Eco Labs 10PLG4 Microbe Lift PL Bacteria for Watergardens 1/2 Gallon, and 8oz PondCare ACCU CLEAR. We hoped that the latter would make our filters more efficient. We were astounded when the water became crystal clear in a couple of days. Since the manufacturers of the bacteria and the barley straw expected a more delayed recovery, we believe that the ACCU CLEAR improved the efficiency of our filters and had a major responsibility for the quick clearing. We intend to keep using this product. (we have checked the chemical balance and everything is within the acceptable range, with a slight tendency to alkaline which is natural for the water in this part of the country). Our pond has remained clear for three months.

This product turned my pond milky and created pockets of bubbles on the surface. It took many days to clear. The manufacturer did return my call regarding the failure of this product but they said it was due to my particular water conditions. NOWHERE on their own website, nor on their Amazon description, was there ANY warning about a specific, necessary water chemistry for this product to perform as advertised. While the maufacturer's rep answered my questions he did not show any concern or care about the situation. Even after I explained to him that I had used their enzyme products for nine years.

I rely heavily on the reviews here and hope to help others avoid wasting their money. The maufacturer refused to refund the price of the product to me.

Tetra EasyStrips Test Strips

Tetra EasyStrips 6-in-1 Test 10C, 100 StripsI have been using this for about a week and comparing it against my API Master Test Kit and here are the results I got.

I have a 10 gallon tropical freshwater tank, a 8 gallon shrimp tank and a small betta fish tank.

All of the them are cycled and controlling the parameters are important for the shrimp tank.

I got this for the convenience vs liquid test kits, which are known to be more accurate

There was well over 1 year till the expiry date but I have found the test strips to be inaccurate.

Tetra test strips vs. API master test kit

Nitrate(ppm): 30 vs 80

Nitrite(ppm): 0 vs 0

GH(ppm): ~75 vs 80

KH(ppm): ~60 vs 120

pH: ~6.6 vs 8.0

The parameters that way off are Nitrate, KH, pH and also Chlorine.

I do not have a Cl test kit but there is no way my tap water has 0ppm of Cl. I smell it myself in a bath.

Bottom line: extremely inaccurate.

Have been using the strips for month or two and they work ok for a quick reading. I have compared the results with another brand test strip and the API master test kit. The only one that is really off for me is the nitrate which keeps coming up bright pink or 200 and the real level is 20. Not sure why it keeps doing this except maybe since my tank water is so hard? Not sure. I have tried the strips in other samples of water including spring water and distilled water. And it seems to work fine with those samples. I think for most causal fish keepers the strips should work fine but remember the strips are not as good as the liquid tests. I probably will not be buying these again since I always have to double check the nitrate level to be sure it's not really off the charts.

I use them as a quick check, and if anything is out of spec I will run a liquid test kit to see what corrections to do

I had thought that i was purchasing something that would last me a long time. being a homeowner with two fish tanks 100 strips were going to last me a long time. I had read the reviews and decided i would use them for an initial test and use my liquid test kit if it was way off. Super excited to get them in. they expire the following month! I have less then one month to use these. Guess this is the reason they are not as expensive as in pet stores. don't waste your money.

Como Green Fry Hatchery Net Breeder for Fish Tank Aquarium

Como Green Fry Hatchery Net Breeder for Fish Tank AquariumI bought this for my angel fish, who spawn in my tank regularly, thinking that I could raise the fry there. The mesh is WAY too big all of the babies swam right back out and were eaten. The mesh is about the same as a normal fish net entirely too big for any fry I've seen regardless of species. If you're looking for something to actually raise babies in, look elsewhere. Also the construction of the thing was incredibly flimsy.

I loved the size of it, bigger than I expected. Easy to put together. I don't know what some of these reviewers thought when they ordered a $7 fry hatchery. Of course it is cheap plastic. Want something more sturdy, buy a more $ one. It's not going to break apart or anything. Just don't chunk it across the room.

Anywoo, I do not recommend this to anyone. My fry were in there for ONE day. ONE day. I woke up this morning, went to go feed my fish and the suction cups failed during the night. ALL of my fry around 40 new red jewel fry, itty bitty guys, got out and were eaten. Not one single one was found. The hatchery was attached by one suction cup all the way at the bottom of my tank. I was so pissed off.

I ordered two, one was for the fry, the other for a fish that the parents of the fry beat up, that fish died within a few hours of putting him in there, it held his weight just fine while he was in there on the bottom of the hatchery, but this morning, that one too was on the bottom of the tank. Failed suction cups.

This hatchery cost me a lot of money for I had planned to sell this batch of red jewels.

Way bigger than expected for my 30 gallon tank. When I removed tried removing it after only two weeks of being in there, two of the suction cup nobs broke off. Still works but disappointed in the plastics weekness. The suction cups are too strong it really only needs the top row.

Was using this to house a Lionhead Goldfish with swimmer bladder issues so he didn't have to lay at the bottom of the tank or deal with other healthy goldfish. Allowed him to eat easier since his food was contained. Very simple and straightforward design. Super simple to put together. Not super high quality but what do you expect for a few dollars? Not the most attractive thing to have in a gorgeous 125 gallon tank, but it did what I needed it to do until Bartholomew got too sick to carry on.

Want Como Green Fry Hatchery Net Breeder for Fish Tank Aquarium Discount?

For the price I can't complain. I found it useful. It has ample room for young fry to grow. The plastic is somewhat rigid and breaks easily with the slightest pressure. I had to use the time tested cure of duct tape to solve that problem. It still serves me.
