Hydor Koralia Evolution Aquarium Circulation Pump

I have bought three of these over the past year and have been impressed by all of them. Unless you plan to spend $200-$400 a piece for the eco-tec units, this is a darn good value. They may not have all the bells and whistles like other models, but they are dead quiet, and when I say dead quiet, I mean that with everything else off in my reef tank, I have to put my ear four inches from the water to hear it running. It also provides a broad current, which is desirable, as opposed to a concentrated jet. Is it the absolute best model on the market? No. Is it the best value? In my opinion, yes it is. For anyone on a budget, these are the way to go. Oh, and when you put it on the tank, it stays put! Most models I have seen have had a tendency to "walk" down the glass over time (these do not). 125 Gallon glass mixed reef tank.

PROs:

more powerful than powerheads that blow a jetstream

agitates water surface yet doesn't blow my sugar fine sized aragonite sand around (I hate getting sand dunes where eventually I'd see the glass/acrylic bottom of my tank).

CONs:

Starts in reverse then I'd unplug it and plug it back in then it works.

kind of big compared to Ecotech Vortech MP10 and Aqueon powerheads

doesn't blow as powerful or as wide as my SEIO m820 powerhead

isn't as adjustable at right-angles like the SEIO m820

I bought 2. One is working great after 9 months. The other started buzzing from the motor after 3 weeks.

Wow. Ive had this for 2 days and come away super impressed. Casts a wide spread that works perfectly in my 55 gallon saltwater tank. A powerhead will seem puny compared to this if you're using it for water movement. At the same time, because of the wide spread, it's not overly powerful in any way. Build quality seems super sturdy and it's super quiet as well.

Bought this as a goldbox item because it was cheap and supposedly redesigned to run with wavemakers. This product's motor runs forward and backward, and the only thing that keeps the motor running forward is a small rubber bumper attached to the front screen. If the motor is running in reverse, the prop will hit the pumper and send it in the proper direction. However, repeated hits break the screen and the bumper will fall off into your tank. The pump then runs forward sometimes and backwards other times. If you are going to use a wavemaker, buy something else. Both of mine (also bought the 750) have broken screens within two months.
