The manufacturing process seems good and all of the balls appear to be properly shaped; I didn't find any deformed, misshapen, or broken spheres yet. As for performance, that's really up to how you install them. For the nitrification bacteria to work, the microbes need oxygen and a supply of dirty aquarium water. If everything is working correctly this reaction will happen in the filter: ammonia ==> nitrite ==> nitrate ==> nitrogen. During use, these balls need to be rinsed off every now-and-again, just be sure to wash them in old aquarium water (not in city tap water because the chlorine will kill all the friendly bacteria).
I say 5 stars out of 5 because the price is about average and the quality is good. Not a remedie. This is the cure for pond algae and unwanted chemicals. I have had my 2500 gallon pond for 3 years. I have the top of the line filter with ultra violet light filters and the works. I even have an activated carbon chamber. I will tell you, all of them combined, could not do what these biospheres did. Do yourself a favor and put an end to your misery. This is it.
