My suggestion is too order more than you think you'll need remember to rinse them in aquarium water not tap water. The same applies to filter maintenance always rinse any filter media in water taken from the tank the filter serves. This protects all the healthy bacteria while getting rid of the gunk. Using tap water will kill your colonization on contact.
These are made to last indefinitely so there's never a reason to replace them. They're also great for seeding a new aquarium and shortening the cycle period.

These guys are pretty small but I just bought them to make free shipping anyway. But was able to throw them into my canister filter in the spaces that are empty because I use spongies.For what it is it works great. Everything was ok. The bio balls arrived at time. I set it in my filter and the product works very well.
