Seachem Prime Freshwater and Saltwater

Seachem Prime Freshwater and SaltwaterI was concerned when I tested my aquarium water and found that the ammonia wasn't 0.0 even though I have been consistent in doing weekly water changes. Just on a hunch, I went ahead and tested the water from my faucet. This is when I found out that my public water had ammonia in it. So now I just treat each water change with a drop of Seachem, and my water is consistently registering 0.0 for ammonia. This make me and my fish very happy!!!

Exo Terra Turtle Pebbles, Large

Exo Terra Turtle Pebbles, LargeGo to your local DOLLAR STORE and buy bags of unpolished river rocks.. same sized bag, $1.. waaalaaa. I have 2 turtles and they have had the dollar store rocks (which in my opion look even better) for over 4 years. legit. don't buy over priced rocks, sheesh! they are rocks!

I did not use these rocks for a turtle, I used them for a fish tank and there awesome! Small rocks are annoying, and get sucked up by the vac when cleaning the tank. Not these!

Buy Exo Terra Turtle Pebbles, Large Now

The Exo Terra Turtle Pebbles are a great addition to my turtle tank. They look really nice and because they are the real thing they make our turtle's enviroment genuine and eco friendly in appearance and environmental safety. The turtle seems to really like them too...he often swims down to move the pebbles to get his food that sank to the bottom...and, he sit down there a lot too...I think he likes the feel of the soft, rounded stones and pebbles on his underside...! ...???

I'll probably be getting more of these when I move my turtle to a larger tank.

I recommend these to anyone for turtles, fresh water fish or other critters.

I loved this turtle gravel! At home, I have 2 red eared sliders and the gravel looked great in my tank! It was a bit pricey, but if you are willing to dedicate your money to the turtles,it was worth it! Actually, the bag was quite heavy at first, but I was surprised at how it fit in my tank and it looked GREAT. I would recommend this to anyone and I would be buying more soon.

I underestimated the size off the bag. You really need to get a couple bags. I like the pebbles, but they are so expensive. I probably should have looked around a little more before purchasing. I didn't realize what I would need.

JW Pet Company Anchor Bubbler 12-Inch Aquarium Accessory

JW Pet Company Anchor Bubbler 12-Inch Aquarium AccessoryInstallment was simple and easy. However, due to my insufficient amount of gravel the anchor bubbler would float to the top after a week, which was expected since material is similar to foam. Thus, I set in rocks that sits perfectly into the anchors. I have two rocks per anchor and it now holds it in place perfectly and haven't budge since 1st improvement.

My pleco digs this bubble wand up. It's irritating and fairly difficult to anchor the "feet". I get one side down with enough gravel and the other side pulls out of the gravel. I have to use 2 hands to secure in the gravel and then my front gets wet.

Marineland Flexi-Vine Decor - Small

Marineland Flexi-Vine Decor - SmallI was looking for something sturdy, flexible and long lasting like the old bio-vine that is no longer available. This does not hold a shape well and falls apart after one washing. Reptile vines must be washed! I am disappointed although my chameleons preferred it to another manufacturer's slick surfaced vine.

Penn Plax PBV1 7-Day Vacation Fish Feeder

Penn Plax PBV1 7-Day Vacation Fish FeederBefore I bought these feeders I noticed the reviews were all over the place. Some people loved them while others came home to find their fish had died. So I bought them and decided to try one out before I left for vacation. I'm very glad I did because nothing happened. While it seemed to be dissolving I couldn't see any type of food being distributed. My Beta did not have a clue as to how to eat from it because he normally chases food from the top. He doesn't forage on the bottom of the tank. After 3 days I decided to take it out of the tank and use a mechanical feeder. I think if I had just dropped it in the tank and gone on vacation I too may have come home to a dead fish. They seem worthless to me.

I bought these at a local aquarium shop to feed my bettas when I go on vacation in a couple months. I had to test it out before relying on it, so I put one of these in each of 10 betta vases.

After three days these things hadn't started to dissolve. So, I fed the bettas a little of their regular food figuring that when I am going to leave on vacation, I could drop these in a few days ahead, giving the tablets time to start working.

After another day on this trial run, I did notice the tablets starting to dissolve. I hoped the fish would eat it... But there was no sign of any of the stuff being eaten. The tablets disolved at different rates. Of the ten, a couple of them didn't seem to dissolve much at all in a week. One of my ten bettas died on the sixth day. Another looked very weak, and even after another week of normal care hasn't recovered to normal.

If I don't come up with a better solution before vacation, I will just feed them twice a day, rather than once a day for a couple days before leaving, then give them one last big feeding as I leave the house. I'll still drop these tablets in with them in case they will decide to eat some of it.

Once these things do dissolve, it just looks like colored slime on the battom of the bowl. I definitely will not buy again.

I've bought this feeder before one of my long weekends so I wouldn't have to worry about feeding my Betta. In a middle of the week I decided to make sure it works while I'm still home. I dropped it in aquarium. My first reaction was: "Why did it drown?"; Bettas are surface feeders. So, I thought, maybe the released food will float up? It didn't.

Totally useless product.

Exotic Environments Great Spire Bridge Aquarium Ornament

Exotic Environments Great Spire Bridge Aquarium OrnamentIf you are looking for a castle with purple accents (which we were as it's my daughter's fave color), then this isn't the castle for you. The picture looked almost exactly like we wanted, but it arrived today and to our dismay it's actually blue (see my customer image). However, it's what we wanted otherwise: perfect size for our 3 gallon tank, hiding place/pathways for our beta, and the details in the design are really cool. Unfortunately, now we have to change our entire color scheme to match the castle, but we do love it enough to keep it and to not keep hunting for another one:).

This brand of aquarium decorations is the best I've purchased. They are colorful, sturdy and provide excellent hiding places for betas. I have two betas, one in each tank of course, and they play hide and seek with each other. The description and measurements are spot on. So far I have replaced 3 of 4 ornaments, all purchased from Amazon.com with Exotic Environments decor. This is the company I will go to for any additional purchases. It is a rare treat to get what you've ordered and be more than pleased with everything about it!

Penn-Plax® Check Valve w/Air Filter for Aquariums

Penn-Plax® Check Valve w/Air Filter for AquariumsI bought this check valve for one of the sponge filters I ran on my shrimp tank. It seems to work somewhat, but it never really got the chance to prove itself in an emergency situation. It's kind of a generic cheapy check valve, really only being protected by a simple piece of plastic that covers a hole when air/water is forced in the wrong direction. I can see it failing in an emergency... Once I accidentally put this check valve on backwards during maintenance. Quite dissapointed in it's preformance as it should not have let any of the air through. It stopped most of the air but there were still a few bubbles that made it past. The point of a check valve is to let no flow of air or water go through the wrong direction, and this one has failed. I can imagine in an emergency situation it would buy me some time, but eventually water would make it to the air pump (actually it might not since I keep my air pumps higher than my tanks, but I use a check valve anyways to be safe). Recently I bought some check valves and I found them to be of MUCH higher quality for less than the price of the Penn-Plax. It's opened my eyes to how shoddy these check valves are.

EASY install and does what it's suppose to. I had a power outage recently and this little filter prevented water from back flowing into my air pump, so it's a great cheap buy to ensure you air pumps quality of air and protection for the pump

Aquatic Life 39-Watt 6000K T5 HO Lamp Aquarium Light, 36-Inch

Aquatic Life 39-Watt 6000K T5 HO Lamp Aquarium Light, 36-Inch
  • Designed for freshwater applications
  • Ideal for live plants and refugiums
  • Balanced light includes peaks in the blue and red spectrums that matches the chlorophyll absorption peaks in plants and enhances fish colors

I have three aquatic life fixtures, the 24 inch, the 48 inch and the 12 lamp 72 inch. All three T5HO fixtures are fantastic & I wouldn't have it any other way!! I have the 48 inch fixture with two 6000K and two Roseate bulbs because it's a planted tank. With this fixture, Pfertz liquid fertilizers twice a week and pressurized CO2 dosing, all my plants have O2 bubbles emmitting from the leaves starting within a few hours each morning and they keep on pumping out O2 until 5pm when the first set of bulbs turn off. These fixtures have been the absolute best hands down!

Acurel LLC Waste and Debris Reducing Media Pad, Aquarium and Pond Filter Accessory, 10-Inch by 18-I

Acurel LLC Waste and Debris Reducing Media Pad, Aquarium and Pond Filter Accessory, 10-Inch by 18-InchI bought these because I have a large canister filter that doesn't sell replacements for its own filters. The original filters were getting very soggy, limp, and not filtering as well.

These are thicker and seem to hold their shape better. I traced around the filter pan and cut two new filters out of one piece. I'll use the other one when needed. My aquarium is looking good, so I have no complaints.

Its floss, they had fast shipping. Great deal in the long run, I'm going to use this instead of the replacement packs.... Should work just fine.

I've been using the Accurel media pad in my Marina S20 filter for a couple of months. When cut to size, it easily slips into the filter's slots. It is stiff, which makes it very easy to slide into place. It also seems to have a tighter weave than other media pads, so it catches even the tiniest specs of debris. I slip it into the skinny intake slot so that the water has an initial filter before it hits the biomax and Purigen sections. In the far section of the filter, I use an Accurel Ammonia Reducing pad. The water in the fish tank remains perfectly clear and the fish remain healthy. Because of the stiffness and the density, I much prefer the Accurel white media to the standard blue and white style.

K&H 8001 Thermo-Pond 3.0 Floating Pond 100-Watt De-Icer

K&H 8001 Thermo-Pond 3.0 Floating Pond 100-Watt De-IcerI've used this for one season, in the Washington, DC area. We don't have a lot of cold weather, but we get down to 0 degrees occasionally. In a small pond with a rubber liner, I was concerned about a "toaster element" heater melting the liner. This heater kept a perfect round hole in the ice even when it got to 3 inches thick and the fish seemed to enjoy spending time under it. The trick with this thing seems to be that while it has a very large surface area (it's about 12 inches across) it has a small air hole at the top. This apparently lets out all the toxic gases, but manages to keep enough heat in to keep the full circle ice free. There's never any sense that the device is hot, but it always just floats freely with a quarter inch gap between it and the ice. I don't actually know for sure, but I suspect that it will work fine to considerably lower temps (they say they tested in -30 degree Wisconsin) and I'm sure it's not dependent on the size of the pond. That is, it won't freeze even if the pond is bigger. However, you might need additional units to handle extra gas from a larger pond. All in all, a very well constructed, simple, safe and satisfactory device.

my family went through 6 of these over the last 3 years! seemed like a great idea..worked ok for about 2 -3 weeks, then they ALL leaked in water, tipped sideways or sunk and did not work well at all. HAd to return them all. seems are not sealed properly. finally gave up on them when manufacturer admitted they'd had nothing but complaints from almost everyone they sold them to. unless they can guarantee they've found and fixed the problem, I would NOT recommend it!

Overall I like the Thermopond and I'm going to try another one. It worked great for 3.5 years and has a long power cord. The company does honor their warranty and has fast turn around. The current temp is +5F so I need to do something fast. The modes of failure described elsewhere do seem to be common I've experienced both myself. From just failing to turn on to taking on water and sinking. When it it works it works great.

I purchased my first one back in 2005 and it worked fine the first year, but the next year it didn't even turn on. The company quickly and without hassle sent me a replacement. The second unit had been working like a charm since 2006... It started working fine this season and then around Christmas 2009 the GFCI popped. I went out and noticed that the thermopond was listing to one side and semi-submerged. It was full of water and the plastic on the underside was deformed and puffed out.

I live in northern Vermont. Thermopond has kept a hole all winter no matter what the temp is (-10F a few years ago). The ice depth was ~10 inches last year and I could see down through the thermopond to the bottom of the pond. I pull it up to check on the fish and they swim over to see me through the hole. I also have a small winter pump (650gph) running as a homemade bubbler. The pump keeps a hole in the ice down to +15F (lower when there's a lot of snow holding the ground temp in). The two manage to keep a very large (25%) opening when the temps are in the upper 20's and mid-30's. My pond is about 2000 gals (3100gph summer pump). I also put out a whip a few years ago to hold the cord up out of the water and keep the thermopond from drifting around in the wind.

Thermopond works, just be prepared to buy a new one every 3 or 4 years ($14 per year). Weigh that with a lower electric bill and this does seem to be a good deal. I'm hoping they've improved the design since I last bought it.

I have a 220 gallon backyard pond, and live in Chicago. I used to use pumps to agitate the water and keep an open spot that way, but the small size pumps I used were not all that durable. I bought this de-icer for less then the price of a 300 GPH pump. I did read all the reviews, and some said the de-icer was not as durable as it should be, but most of those reviews were from a couple years back so I am thinking they have improved it.

This de-icer has maintained a small opening in the ice all Winter. The temperature has dropped down to single digits for brief periods as well as some spells in the teens.

This product meets my needs quite well. Next Winter I will buy another one and save it as a back up de-icer and consider it insurance.

Using 100 watts could be costly to keep this plugged in all the time. I just ran an extension cord to my garage and turned it on when i noticed the water began to freeze. We had 4 inches of ice on our pond this last winter and this heater worked flawlessly.

Jardin Aquarium Bio Biochemical Ball for Pond Filter, 26mm, 20-Piece, Black

Jardin Aquarium Bio Biochemical Ball for Pond Filter, 26mm, 20-Piece, BlackAn outstanding value. Bioballs like anything else in life vary in quality a great deal. Jardin however has an impeccable reputation. I've been keeping fish for 40 years and can talk about filtration and media until friends and family hang the phone up one me.

Because these are so textured and allow for full water flow through they're an absolute magnet for nitrifying bacteria. Hence, colonization is very fast and you'll see the results of this product in fewer ammonia spikes as well as more stabilized water parameters.

At this price they're beyond a bargain, plus this item is Prime eligible so add free shipping to boot.

My suggestion is too order more than you think you'll need remember to rinse them in aquarium water not tap water. The same applies to filter maintenance always rinse any filter media in water taken from the tank the filter serves. This protects all the healthy bacteria while getting rid of the gunk. Using tap water will kill your colonization on contact.

These are made to last indefinitely so there's never a reason to replace them. They're also great for seeding a new aquarium and shortening the cycle period.

20 pieces do not go far in a pond pump container. Buy 4 or 5 bags to get an amount that will fill the container. I used the bag I got with existing filter items in my container and it works fine.

This little toy is cute and my cat loves playing with it. The little chicken lost one wing (feather) immediately. Otherwise, it seems to be holding up pretty well. My main complaint is that when I searched for "made in USA" this came up in the list and although I looked all over, I could not see anything saying exactly where it was made. Of course, when I received it, it was made China. I would not have purchased it if I had known for sure where it was made.

Want Romp! Funny Farms Catnip Cat Toy Discount?

First off, I have to say that this whole line of toys is some of the cutest

I have seen in ages! Both the cat and the dog lines will bring a smile to your face!

For this particular toy, the Turkey Trot, it makes you smile right away.

I am a sucker for that crazy eye look on cartoon or toy characters.

(Think Ed from Lion King!)

We thought this would be a sure-fire hit because this is not only a toy on a stick

(what cat doesn't love it when their humans dangle stuff from sticks for them to swat

at?), but it has feather wings. (We have a few other stick-style toys, so this is an

additional one.)

True to form, our feather-holic cat liked this toy for a while, and tried to de-wing it the first night.

Our usual stick-toy fanatic wasn't so impressed. We had to drag the toy across her back a

few times for her to even give it a second look. She finally made a few feeble pokes at it.

Not what I had hoped for!

So, we left it on the floor for them to sniff thoroughly, so they'd know what they were dealing

with we thought maybe it was just that it was not familiar. It's been a few days now, and the

general thoughts are "Eh" from both cats. We can force one to swat at it just by annoying her

to pieces with it, but then she walks away. I am going to try to leave the turkey in some catnip

for a few days and see if that helps. There was no scent at all to the toy, so although it says

there is catnip in it, it is either a miniscule amount or it is just very old.

On the plus side, it looks well-made, and it really does have a "cute" factor for the humans.

Red Sea Fish Pharm ARE50184 Deluxe Prizm Upgrade Kit Protein Skimmer for Aquarium

Red Sea Fish Pharm ARE50184 Deluxe Prizm Upgrade Kit Protein Skimmer for AquariumFirst I have a Fish only live rock marine aquarium. 30 gallon. Ive got a fluval 304 canister filter and the prism skimmer. I bought this skimmer attachment because I wanted to remove the "scum" film from the top of the water. The item says it's a surface skimmer. I think that is stretching the definition of a surface skimmer. It draws water from the top inch of the aqauarium but it would be very difficult to get it to "skim" the surface all the time without constant adjustment. The problem is the height adjustment is mechanical. You have to move a lever and adjust the height of the surface skimmer, so after adjusting the surface skimmer to get a slight "waterfall effect" so that it is "skimming" the surface all is good until water evaporates and now not enough water is falling into the surface skimmer cup to keep up with the pump. I would have to top off the water in the tank and re adjust the surface skimmer cup everyday to get a true "Surface skim". I guess I will adjust it when I have time once a week to get the scum off the surface and then lower it the rest of the time so it will not starve itself of water when evaporation happens. It would be really nice if it had some type of flotation on it that would let the skimmer cup constantly adjust to the water level. It would be a 6 star if that was the case. Other than the adjustment issue. It seems to be built good and it fit onto the skimmer with no problem. I'm going to keep it and use it. I was not impressed with the options for surface skimmer intakes for the canister filter. They all stuck to the side of the aquarium with suction cups and well I have good luck with suction cups for about a week.

Digital LCD Fish Tank Aquarium Marine Water Thermometer - -50°C to 70°C

Digital LCD Fish Tank Aquarium Marine Water Thermometer - -50°C to 70°CSimple to use, inexpensive to buy. I bought 4 of these to monitor temperatures in different parts of my vivarium (it's big, so temperatures range up to 20 degrees F sometimes). To check them I have a separate analog (dial) thermometer and I also put the four sensors (remember I bought four of these, so one sensor each) right next to each other for about 24 hours. The biggest difference in temperature reported by the side-by-side probes was one degree. Good enough for me. I also like that I can stick the probe directly in the super-humid vivarium but keep the electronic part of the unit outside in the relatively dry air.

I'm so glad that it was inexpensive. You get what you pay for, I guess....I didn't return it cause it wasn't worth the trouble, either

Tetra Usa STS25907 4-Piece Interlock Stone, Large

Tetra Usa STS25907 4-Piece Interlock Stone, LargePros: good idea, smooth "stone" pieces, lightweight, buildable.

I purchased 2 sets to build a small platform for my 18month old eastern spiny softshell turtle. The "stones' are lightweight and smooth so they won't scratch your animal. The idea is great you can configure the stones for the space and the animal. It is compatible with the reptofilter and the prodcut can be used in wet or dry environments.

Cons: pegs stick out, float. Not enough holes in "stones" limits

configurations, costly to build a large enough structure.

The set comes with 4 "Stones" one large, 2 medium one small and have 1,2, or 3 holes depending on stone size which limits configuration. The pegs stick up above the stones even after snapping off the extra and they float. You have to buy lots of sets in order to get a large enough build to make it useful. It would be nice if the manufacturer offered sets with all one size "stones" i.e. 4 large stones.

User Suggestions: For dry environments manually cut off the pegs a little shorter than the top of the stone so they don't stick up. For wet environments ditch the pegs and use aquarium safe glue for a permanent set up.
