Zilla 09930 Night Black Heat Incandescent Spot Bulb, 100-Watt

I have had a lizard for about 4 years now and the only heat source that she will sleep with is this bulb. Well i ordered it from this seller on amazon and it arrived quickly, except it quickly ceased functioning, which is rare for these bulbs. Well i emailed the seller and they sent a new one 2 day shipping for me and didn't even require i send the old one back, saving me some money on postage or the hassle of sending it out. They are nice because they are not bright like other night/black bulbs, but it doesn't seem to be worth the hassle anymore. And I have read that this is happening to other people more this year too, so it doesn't seem to be anything I'm doing or using and I didn't have a problem in the past with them.

This powerhead is a great thing to have for your aquarium if the tank is between 55-90 gallons. It really packs a punch for its size, and has the capacity to move a lot of water fairly quickly. It can also be used in smaller aquariums too, because the waterflow on this powerhead is ADJUSTABLE (a feature that is rarely seen on other powerheads) it can filter 300 g.p.h. or adjusted to filter only a trickle. I've been involved with aquariums for over 16 years, and this is one of the finest accessories for an aquarium I've ever had. If you're considering ornamental fish as a hobby, I heartily recommend this powerhead. It is powerful, quiet, and gives your options of reverse flow and adjustable waterflow.

Be advised on one thing when the powerhead is operating in reverse flow, small fins like guppies can get stuck to the plastic grid from which water flows into the powerehead and never escape. So this item is better suited to larger fish when using the reverse flow feature. But it's adjustability enables you to slow the waterflow to a trickle for a powerhead that does not promote too much water turbulation for smaller fish.

I love this pump so far. The Aquaclear 20 is perfect for a 29 gallon tank. Previous Penguin powerhead was awful. A pet store recommended and ordered the 660 for my 29 gallon tank. It was way too much power with no way to adjust the output. My fish were getting blown around the tank. Even worse was the vibration. Even tried rocks on top of the cover to stop the rattling. Down graded to 4 stars because the bubble valve doesn't adjust to a tiny amount of bubbles without spurting them out off and on again. You either get spurts or a LOT of bubbles. To be fair the Penguin air valve was fancier but didn't work any better.

Nice powerhead. Using it on an undergravel filter in a 29 gal tank. It's very quiet and has an airtube for the venturi. If it wasn't for the bubbles that I let come out I wouldn't hear it at all, but then again, it is submerged.

Forget about airpumps and airstones to aerate your tank, this is just as cheap, but it is MUCH quieter and makes your tank so much better. I like that Aquaclear makes filters that you can attach to this to help keep the water crystal clear. Wish i would have bought this a year ago. I use this in a 55 gallon tank and it would be great for a larger or a smaller tank because of the adjustable flow rate. 5-stars!

I went back & forth based on the reviews to get SMALL or LARGE. After measuring my console, the small was my only option but was afraid that my little Yorkie mix (9 lbs) would not fit comfortably. Being a little snuggle bug herself, she curled into it and can lay down curled up. She also sometimes lies her head on the lip of the seat as well. Not much room for anything else but it works. She gets to see everything from the console.

I would rate this 5 but the straps (as I have read in the reviews), are awkward. Firstly, the small strap that is supposed to go around the console is too big... Luckily my GL had another part that it could attach to so I did. Then the two straps that looks like it's supposed to go around the seats are too short. I had to rig it up my own way with some latches that were on the floor. Being slightly too short for that too, I had to simply use an extension loop.

Now we are set.

For those who want the large unit so their pet can lay out in the seat, I don't know what cars would have such a HUGE console! I have a Mercedes 450 GL which is a large SUV. Granted, the console is moderate but what car would have such a huge console I wouldn't know.

Okay so I knew when I bought this, I would have some issues. I have a 2010 Ford Mustang convertible and a 2 pound Maltese. I was worried carrying her in our laps for fear that a small front end fender bender would make the air bags inflate and kill our poor little pup. So, I measured between the seats and knew it would be wide enough...but... I don't have the right type of console. The back section of the console opens and the front part is a drink holder. When I got the seat, I was right it didn't work. However, I was able to take the rear straps and attach them to the undersides of the front seats in the back, then, for the front (which was the real problem), I attached two additional straps with clips and attached those underneath the front seats in the front. To access my console, I need to unclip the front clips, to tip the seat back. It works great. While it did take some jury-rigging to work, it keeps her secure between the seats, and all 4 of my seats are still open for passengers (which was the concern with over the seat options). We use it with a harness since if she had just the collar and was thrown it would snap her little neck. Once we clip her in the harness, I am confident that she is comfortable and safe. She was thrown from it once when we had to stop *very* quickly, and her harness kept her from being injured. Thank goodness! All in all, except for the fact that I had to jury-rig it to make it work, it is a *wonderful* seat!

I am so glad I ordered this! It was perfect for our 6 pound yorkie. He's just not happy sitting in the seat behind us, but in this car seat he didn't fret at all. I am giving this 1 star because none of my goldfish will eat this stuff. I have 30 goldfish in an outdoor pond. I fed this to them and for whatever reason they will not eat it. Its been 3 days now and the food is still at the bottom of the pond uneaten. Maybe you may have better luck than I did. The only plus to this is the container is large and u get a lot for your money. Aquarium Pharmaceuticals RENA FilStar xP3 Canister Filter

I have been running a Rena XP3 canister filter on my 90 gallon freshwater aquarium for a few weeks now. My initial comment is that this is the easiest cannister filter to prime that I have ever owned. Having done the suck-the-hose-and-spit routine, and the restart-repeatedly routine with other filters, this filter is a joy. It's virtually self-priming. With the filter UNplugged, you simply remove the little cap from the top of the intake tube which you have placed on the upper rim of your aquarium, and pour a cup of water into it via the funnel that is provided, and the filter does the rest. The filter fills with water from the tank in 1 to 2 minutes; you then plug it in, and you're in business. Once I had the hoses connected and the filter's easy-disconnect valve closed, it took me less than 2 minutes to be fully functional.

The only issue here and this is crucial is that you MUST NOT FORCE the intake/output disconnect valve lever down into a locked position; i.e., you must be certain that it's seated on the top of the filter correctly, and then GENTLY PUSH the lever down. If you feel resistance, you don't have it seated correctly. Just wiggle it into position, and gently push the lever down. It locks into place and you are ready to self-prime it as described above. I am sure that there are some people out there who have impatiently tried to force the connect-disconnect lever into a locked position, and thereby damaged the lever and/or housing. Ordinary prudent gentleness is required here.

The interior of the cannister is extremely flexible as to the placement of media. There are several stacking trays inside that you can fill with any media that your heart desires. Rena has a broad array of sponges with different filtration densities and media pouches to choose from, and you can add more (OR DIFFERENT) media as you so choose. The media pouches are typically outrageously priced in LFS stores, but quite affordable through Amazon and online aquarium suppliers.

In addition to two grades of sponges and 3 other media that came with the filter, I added a wad of the same biological filtration ribbon that I use in my koi pond bio filters, placed into one of the empty trays (clean and unused media) to lend more support for development of nitrifying bacteria.

There is no media-water bypass with this filter because of it's central upward flow design. Crystal clear water is the result. Nitrite cycling jump started at two weeks with one of the packaged non-refrig bio product has gone off without a hitch. After doing a basic gravel clean with the python, the somewhat clouded water cleared of sediment to crystal clear within 20 minutes in my 90 gallon tank.

And is this filter as silent as they claim? Absolutely silent. I find myself looking to see if the plants are waving in a current, just to make sure the thing is still running. Just amazing. No overheating either.

As to customer service .... I had a very good experience. I had thought from reading Rena's website that there should have been a venturi included with the canister. So I emailed them after-hours, asking "where is the venturi", and gave them my phone number. Early the next morning, I got a call from the technical support folks, telling me that the venturi had been fazed out a few years ago because they felt it didn't add much to the effectiveness of the filter, and that no, I wasn't missing anything. Very prompt, courteous and professional communication. [But, Rena, if you are reading this, please update your website diagrams to reflect the absence of a venturi on current models. I think this is more than just a static page caching issue.]

I would highly recommend this Rena Filstar XP3 to potential buyers.

I have been running an XP3 & XP2 continuously for several years now with no problems. I admit, in this time I have had no need to contact customer service as I have had no problems. I run them with quartz sphere biological media, chemi-pure and or puri-gem, and the sponges that come with the filter.

What I like about them.

Quiet.

High flow rate.

Good volume of media capacity.

Flexibility potential for media used.

Easy to clean.

Flexible water return setup options once you are to the tank

Issues I wish were better.

Morer flexible hose as part of the package would ease set up. What they give you is fine and heavy duty, but its stiffness make is difficult to set up and puts a twist warp on the direction/position of the intake siphon tube and on return mechanisms at the tank. The stiff hose should be replaced and quality stainless steel band screw clamp to secure tubes to fittings allowing more flexible setup and changes to the set up. Once you set up with the current hose supplied with the kit you will have great difficulty getting it apart to change your setup.

The siphon tube sections don't hold together well sometimes and are easily knocked apart when doing water changes and tank cleaning for example. A snugger joining of pieces would be nice. I also don't like the light blue color of the siphon tube. I wish it were clear.

Rena/Mars Fishcare is the worst company I have ever dealt with. The customer service is a joke. If you can get someone to answer the phone or return your messages all they will do is make you jump through hoops until you are so frustrated you just give up. The whole time your fish suffer. I purchased an XP filter and it quit working after 2 weeks. You're better off spending your money on ANY OTHER FILTER.

I have no idea why this filter is so expensive except to guess that the US dollar is low. This unit does have it's fans but I will tell you that the unit is full of liabilities. LEAKS is the achilles heal of any filter and completely unacceptable. The inlet and outlet to the pump is only sealed by two small o-rings. The quick detach unit is not so secure that slight pull by the tubing can cause leaks. Even worse, if there is any outlet load whatsoever, the unit will leak. Forget trying to hook a uv sterilizer or CO2 chamber to the outflow--I would not trust the unit not to leak. Also, the leak is not immediately noticeable. It will leak into the top pump unit and then start to trickle out hours later. I keep mine in a plastic bin because I have had multiple episodes of leaks. MULTIPLE!!!

Another area of problem has to do with cheapness also. The impeller cover has small plastic ridges that hold it in place. Unfortunately the tolerances of cheap plastic is not so good that the cover has popped off, which creates a lot of noise and limits the output of the unit dramatically. Of course, warranty is only as good as the provider. I called Rena/API and was promised a replacement cover. None was received.

No filter canister is perfect but I will take the simplicity of a Eheim Classic 2217 over the XP3 any day.

Kent Marine Pro-Dechlorinator

If you are looking for a dechlorinator that doesn't have other addatives in it this is the product you want. This will treat pleanty of water compared to those others that are not concentrated. When you see how little you need it is very cheap to use and it works.

I use this on the water for my hermit crabs, because the tap water here is heavily chlorinated. So far, my crabs haven't dropped dead from chlorine, and that's high praise as far as I can tell.

Kent Marine Pro-Dechlorinator seems to do its job adequately and fairly simply. I have never had a problem with a tank I have used this product for my primary dechlorinator. Kent Marine Pro-Dechlorinator does not exceed expectations so I do not believe a five star rating is warranted but I would recommend this to anyone who needs a consistent and effective dechlorinator.

The only drawback to Kent Marine Pro-Dechlorinator I have encountered is the measuring system on the cap isn't very useful if you like to add small amounts of dechlorinator to buckets or jugs before adding the water to your tank. The cap deals with 10 to 50 gallon quantities. From my experience, it seems about two drops will do its job for each gallon of water being mixed and treated before being added. I suppose you could buy a chlorine test before doing a water change and calculate the exact amount of drops to effectively treat each gallon of water, but for my water it seems two drops gets it done.

I have been using Kent products for over a decade for both fresh and saltwater tanks. I like Kent's professional packaging and over all consistency. Kent has yet to disappoint and Kent Marine Pro-Dechlorinator can be another product added to a very long list of other great Kent products.

Dog Gone Smart Crate Pad

My dog would get very stressed out while in her crate. Since we have gotten this, she has calmed down a lot. Just recently she started going in the crate on her own and laying down on it. It is water proof on the colored side.

First dog thought it was too thin. She didn't seem very comfortable on it in her cage. Second dog, 8 week old puppy, tore holes in it within one hour. I will go back to using old towels in the dog kennels.

I used this epoxy to hold frags and rock together. Cured underwater. Only negative is that it cures bright white instead of purple. Easy to fix by using rubble to hide it.

I don't know if its the type of frag I tried to use or maybe I got a bad batch or maybe I don't know how to mix it right but it didn't hold good for me and an hour after I put it in my tank it left I big gap on the side of my frag because it opened up and it doesn't look good on the other hand my buddy has had better luck with one he bought but he is just sticking it to frag plugs and then to rocks maybe that's what it's meant for but for what I needed it for it did not work

It's not as easy to get damp pieces to stick as it would say it is. It holds well but having everything completely dry would be best. However that can be difficult under water. Take some practice and make it work and it will hold.

This may be ok if you are using it before the rocks are put in aquarium. But if you are using it in a existing aquarium it does not set up well under water,and you have to wait about eight minutes for it to start hardening.

Out of all the 10 gallon hoods out there, most come with a tiny little lid for access in the front. K&H Ultimate All-In-One Stock Tank De-Icer Removable Floater Ring

I love these heaters. We now have a bunch of them to keep horses' water ice-free. We have other types of heaters and even heated buckets but these are my favorite in terms of value for money and fuss free maintenance. They are absolutely no additional work easy to install and easy to take out to clean the water tanks. Plus, they come with a free floater ring if you want to convert yours to a floating heater (wouldn't work with my mouthy geldings) and a shepherd's-hook type of attachment to help securing the cord to the side of the tank. Even with the unusually cold weather we've been having here in NC, 250W heaters are perfectly sufficient to keep 50gal stock tanks clear.

The quality is perfectly fine, and the engineering is clearly geared towards being able to withstand curious equines.. I don't know that they are built to last till the end of the earth, but they are solid and should work at least a couple of years. At about 10% of a cost of typical vet colic call, I'd say they are well worth the money (not to mention now I can sit in my house, in my pyjamas and have my morning coffee without worrying that i have to go break the horses' water again ... and again, and again and again).

I think the reviewers who said they do not work might be either (1) trying to heat too large of an area (a pond? really????) or (2) just got defective units, which happens with all electrical appliances now and then. Either that or we got really lucky but none of our five have had any problems at all and they do exactly what they are intended to do at a good price with minimum fuss required. If one of mine broke I'd buy another one in without a second thought.

Bought this for my 700 gallon pond after the Farm Innovators Heated Pond Saucer Model PS-200, 200-Watt deicer started to trip my GFI after only 2 months of use! (After taking that one from the water, could hear water slooshing around inside the disk.)

Seems like a good design because of the option to have it float or not, the 250 watt option and it's not a disk that will eventually leak in water.

I was leery of buying this because it said it is for a stock tank but the coils are surrounded so I don't see a way that it could damage a pond liner.

This one has kept the water open for the 1-2 months since I've bought it. I just hope I'm able to use it next year!

We are using this de-icer in a 50 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank. It works great! We took off the float part to make it submersible, the horses are leaving it alone. The clip keeps the cord somewhat secure to the side. Temps dropped to 18F last night and no ice to be seen in the tank.

Check the website for K&H Manufacture to see what zone you are in and which wattage will work best for you. I was surprised to find that a 250w would work with a 50 gallon, but it does. Less of a drain our electric and wallet!

For us and our horses, this was a good buy!

Wow! I cannot believe the performance of this mighty 250W de-icer. Right after I purchased it, we had 3 weeks of below freezing weather so it got a work-out. The K&H is in a 150 gallon tank (it is only rated for 30 gal in our climate). Occasionally in the morning there is some ice on the edges, but plenty of ice free water for my horses. I am planning to purchase another for a second tank. This is a great product.

Zilla Light Incandescent Bulb

They do provide heat but burn out very fast. First bulb 6 hours second bulb 24 hours.Have not tried third bulb.

I use this particular brand bulb for my evening lighting in several vivariums, and have used them for 18 months now. Recently I had a few go out, and it wasn't viable for me to hit the local pet store, so I grabbed them via Amazon Prime.

PROS:

* Great bulb for all day heat, or evening heat

* Excellent gentle "moonlighting"

* Quality, lasts a very long time

CONS:

* Ordered a couple, had one go out within seconds for no apparent reason (I'll bet it got knocked around in the mail). Might just pay off to order extras, you should have some on hand anyhow

OTHER:

* Amazon customer service is OUTSTANDING, they had a replacement bulb shipped to me the next day

* When installing these I feel it's best to leave no fingerprints or other body oils on the bulb, once it's screwed in. So use a soft cloth to tighten it, or once it's screwed in, wipe it clean

VIVARIUM HEATING INFO:

* Remember, proper heating for your pet (air and floor temperature) can mean the difference between not just happiness and stress, but proper digestion and life in general

* For many reptiles, floor temperature is most important, followed by air temperature. You'll need to measure floor temps to make sure it's within the proper range for your pet.

* One of these bulbs sitting on top of a 20L vivarium will heat the surface of a rock, which is 6" below the bulb, to about 98*. The floor temperature will be a little less. Use under-tank heaters for best results, such as Zoo Med ReptiTherm® Under Tank Heater, Medium

* Higher wattage means more output, it also means the closer an object or pet is to the bulb, the hotter it will be for them. Keep that in mind.

* Make sure your bulb is sized properly for your lighting enclosure, not only physically, but for the wattage as well. You don't want to put a 150watt bulb in a 100watt socket.

It provides warmth, which is its main function, but I gave only 4 stars because calling it "Black Heat" is a bit misleading. The bulb looks black when it's off, but it gives a purple light when on. At full intensity, it can interfere with sleep. If you need true darkness, get a ceramic heat lamp.

I purchased two of these lightbulbs, and wish I hadn't, as the first one exploded (for no apparent reason) about 3 days after putting it to use as a chick brooder warmer. Thankfully I was close by and heard the sound, as glass shards were all over the brooder. I found a bit of blood, but haven't found an injury among the chicks. I had it screwed into an appropriate holder, it wasn't being touched by anything, and had plenty of circulating air around it I have no idea why it broke so explosively. DO NOT BUY IF YOU VALUE YOUR ANIMALS. I have the second bulb in use currently, with strong, fine wire mesh completely enclosing it just in case, and a second heat lamp different brand bulb just in case this one breaks also. As soon as I can buy a different bulb this one is going into the garbage.

It was the right light for the job, until it burned out. It burned out within 3 weeks of purchasing. I was pretty upset because my turtles had spent a long time waiting for it to ship when our last one unexpectedly burned out. I usually love the rzilla products but for some reason this one was a dud.

All Glass Aquarium AAG20007 Inc Economy Hood, 16-Inch

These hoods are cheap, but they serve the purpose for a freshwater aquarium. As another reviewer stated, it does not have a protective cover, so it is exposed to evaporative water and splashing, but the lights are set up a few inches, which helps a little in the case of splashing.

The best part about these hoods is that you can replace the inefficient and low wattage incandescent bulbs with good mini compact fluorescent tubes (preferably the single loop kind, not the spiral kind) which output about 13 watts per tube to give you 26 watts over a 10 gallon tank. It has been just enough light to grow my plants, whereas a single tube fluorescent hood or light strip will only give you 15 Watts.

Perfecto does have a better quaility incandescent hood that you can retrofit with fluorescents for $10-$15 more.

I was very disappointed with this product because all of theese parts are exposed to water,wether it be condensation or fish splashing about or humidity.There for allthe components rot away very rapidly,I have even kept the water levels lower and this does no good.If this problem could be solved perhaps then they would be worth the money!

Hood as stated, however the type of bulb the hood takes is either pink, blue, or clear. The problem is the "clear" bulb is more like a weird orange instead of a white which distorts the fish colors and is very hot so it heats the tank up too much!

The only problem I had was that it does not come with a light. The pinch outs for the filter and the heater both worked fine. Fit my 5 gallon tank perfectly. Happy customer.

Underwater Galleries AUG5402 Sea Cave, Small

I bought the small cave, and one of my Golden Rams really likes to hide in it. I did notice that algae appeared on it pretty fast, but I just clean it every couple of weeks or so.

This product was broken on arrival, and I'm not surprised now that I see it in person. The "rock" is only about 1/4 an inch thick, and is more so some ceramic material than actual rock. The packaging it arrived in was very bad as well, with a single layer of bubble wrap, in a very small box.

I bought this 12 pack for my Penguin 200 and it was the right thing to do. Not only was the price better than at my LFS, the cartridges are good and they really work.
