Wholesome Hide 4" - 5" Retriever Roll With Bacon

Wholesome Hide 4' - 5' Retriever Roll With BaconThis is the only rawhide I feel comfortable giving my puppy. With all the horror stories about shards of rawhide breaking off, getting caught in dogs' throats or digestive systems, or the horrible chemicals in imported rawhides, I had no plans to ever give my puppy rawhide. But then I ran across a very thorough review of rawhide products in Whole Dog Journal and in the end, this company was the only rawhide the author recommended. Made in the USA, with no awful unregulated chemicals, these are made of fresh, thick hide that will get moist as your dog chews on it instead of breaking off in shards.

And just as importantly, my puppy loved it! He chewed on it almost nonstop until he got the "bacon" roll out and finished, then worked on and off on the plain outer hide until it disappeared. And despite being flavored, there was no weird stink as with some other chewy treats. Now that he has all his adult teeth and is a more enthusiastic chewer, I'm going to get several more Wholesome Hide products.

My 80 lb. dog loves to chew. This bone makes her very happy and interested. The bacon starts her off and then she'll devour the whole bone later. I give these to her as a special treat and she acts accordingly.

Laguna Once-A-Year Fertilizer Spike, Aquatic Plant - 3-Pack

Laguna Once-A-Year Fertilizer Spike, Aquatic Plant - 3-PackAfter using these spikes for several years, the results have been consistent and positive.

Unlike tab fertilizer needing once a month application, these spikes are slow release once a year application.

I purchased and used these for some water lilies that I had also purchased here on Amazon.

Note that the 3-pack contains the regular sized spikes, and the 6-pack (also sold here on Amazon) contains the Minis. For a one or two gallon pot, Laguna/Hagen recommends one REGULAR spike with a change frequency of one year.

Also, note that each individual spike is shipped with a protective clear plastic sleeve that MUST be removed (use a razor blade) before use. This plastic sleeve is NOT a component of the time-release feature, and must be removed (as confirmed by my phone call to Laguna's customer support line).

Since I just planted the water lilies, I cannot yet comment on the efficacy of the spikes -but assuming they work, this will be much more convenient than monthly feedings.

Finnex 50-Watt Hang-On Electronic Controller Aquarium Heater, Titanium Tube, 10 to 20-Gallon

Finnex 50-Watt Hang-On Electronic Controller Aquarium Heater, Titanium Tube, 10 to 20-GallonIt's often hard to find decent equipment for the nano/pico tank, and when my previous Finnex heater with an external controller bit the dust (after years of service), I was glad to find this 50 Watt model available. It has been working perfectly for a nearly a month, now, so I expect to get several years of service out of it. Once you've had a heater with an external controller, why would you ever get one without it? They are just SO much more convenient to use.

My only complaint about this model would be the very short cord (approx. 6") between the controller and the plug that goes into your electrical outlet. This definitely compromises the places you can put the controller within easy access, depending on the location of your tank and your outlets.

Otherwise, a fine, much appreciated product!

Pros:

reliably maintains constant temperature

adjustable external to the tank

Cons:

warranty is reprehensible (see below)

cord is very stiff and thick

suction cups don't really work adequately

temperature control is cheap quality

instructions are sparse, translated English

First of all, it gets 3 stars because it reliably maintains a constant temperature, unlike the ViaAqua.

My main complaint is the 180 day warranty!!!. For the price why doesn't it have a lifetime warranty like the Marineland heaters? Next time I need aquarium stuff, I think I will go to an aquarium store/site.

I do like the convenience of being able to adjust the temperature external to the tank, but it is not worth any down-sides, since a decent heater only needs to be set once.

This heater will do the job if you have a 10 gal unit. Looks smaller than pictured, but heats very well. My house gets 67 at night an 75 during the day and water stays 78.All I could ask.

Read Best Reviews of Finnex 50-Watt Hang-On Electronic Controller Aquarium Heater, Titanium Tube, 10 to 20-Gallon Here

If you have a Fluval Spec V (or another type of nano tank), I would recommend this heater based on my experience so far. (have been using for close to a month)

The 3 best features:

1. small size with enough power to get the job done

2. the controls are on the outside of the tank making it easy to adjust without ever having to move the heater.

3. it is metal instead of glass. therefore, a lot more durable.

The reasons I did not rate 5 stars:

1. when the heating element turns on/off, the controls make a pretty loud click. This can be a little annoying at night if you are trying to sleep next to it. (all aq. heaters do this, but most are quieter because they are underwater)

2. I wish the cord length between the heater and controller was a bit longer so it would be easier to hide the controller.

Bottom line: This heater is tough and keeps the water of my 5.6 gallon tank evenly heated at 77-78 degreed F. I suspect it would have no trouble with a bit larger tank too (the controls allow form more heat than that). It is convenient to use, and very compact.

side note: the instructions say to only position the heater horizontally, but I have had no trouble leaving it vertical in the hidden pump compartment of my Spec V.

UPDATE: 2 months in the tank and still going strong.

This is a good product. I have a 10 gallon tanks and it was getting pretty chilly in the night. I just plugged the heater in and it works great, it keeps the temperature steady. It has been working for a couple of months now, with no problem at all. I am very satisfied, I definitely recommend this product.

Finnex FugeRay Aquarium LED Light Plus Moonlights, 16-Inch

Finnex FugeRay Aquarium LED Light Plus Moonlights, 16-Inch+ Good for nano planted tanks

+ Moderate level lighting for measured growth without worrying too much about algae (depends on your tank parameters/fauna/flora)

+ Solid casing

+ Cool moonlight

The mounting brackets that are adjustable just plain suck. They don't adjust more than an inch or so and get wobbly

I bought this light fixture a few months back to use over my 5.5 gallon planted tank and it works perfectly. It's stylish, very bright, but not so bright that I need to have co2 in the tank (I use Excell along with PPS-Pro ferts that I mix myself). I have it on a timer and it comes on and goes off at the same time every day. That means I can't use the moonlights at night, although I do leave them on with the whites during the day. The added color it brings to the tank is mild but it really does make the plants and fish look better than without them on. The plants all grow very well with this fixture (nine different types of plants from low to medium light requirements). Overall I couldn't be more pleased.

I got this light to replace the one that came with my Tetra 10-gallon half moon aquarium.

The light is very good, reaches the substrate. I don't use C02, but had to turn down the

amount of time the light is on to prevent algae growth. I like the blue "moonlights" but don't

really use them. I love the stream-lined look. Very well made LED light & an excellent

price for what you get. Only thing I would change is that the cord was kind of short.

Petco Check Valve

Petco Check ValveIt does do what i need. Unfortunately it requires quite a bit of pressure to be pushed through. Other than that, i made my own c02 set up with this and it does work fine.

I have 3 of these valves on each of the 3 Betta tanks in my home, they do their job well.. we had a power outage recently due to storm & when i checked on the fish all the valves kept the water from backing up into the Air Pumps! I was buying a new air pump every 4-6 months before because of water backing up into the air pumps & ruining them. No more of that, it's Awesome! You can buy these at your local Petco for about $3-ish, but until they recently put one in my area i had to buy them online. They even have a little sticker with arrows, so you'll know how to connect them to your pump correctly.

Fluval EDGE Algae Magnet

Fluval EDGE Algae MagnetThe built quality is nice and it's ergonomic, but if it doesn't do what it's designed to do well all of that is for not. That's the case with this magnet cleaner. Let me count the ways it doesn't work for me:

Weak magnet, if the magnet is not strong it will constantly fall off and not be effective in cleaning the glass

The string is annoying and will only lead to problems keeping it on there (I removed it on my unit after trying it on)

Just doesn't clean well mainly because it keeps falling off when swiping it across the glass (did I already say weak magnet?)

I suggest a Mag Float, that magnet is MUCH stronger and no I don't work for them or paid by them. Just letting you know what works in my two tanks. I didn't bother returning this because I already dumped the package and the price wasn't high so it wasn't worth my time to do that.

To end on a positive note, the inside surface area is larger and the outside handle is easy to hold...but like I said...it also has to work well for what it is designed for. Too bad, I wanted to like it, but can't recommend this.

this magnet is nice for cleaning but does not float so if it separates it falls to the bottom. It comes with a string to fish it out but if you have anything in your tank then it will get tangled in that. Also if you were keeping it in the tank like is suggested, the string would get pretty nasty since it is like a piece of heavy duty thread. I won't be using this at all...I will be going back to the store and getting a new one that floats

Buy Fluval EDGE Algae Magnet Now

Switched to a magfloat after having this 3 days with my edge. Works great until it hits gravel. Then you are just asking for scratches. Fortunately I knew this and switched. In the edge it's just too hard to go from edge to edge to edge over and over. Even an expert loses it to flow eventually. I have a FOWLR setup. Once it his sand *poof* it would need cleaned in the sink before being placed back in the tank. The string collects algae. It does however look great and that is why it gets 2 stars.

Read Best Reviews of Fluval EDGE Algae Magnet Here

This will help to get some little annoying spots off of the interior of your tank, but there are too many design flaws for it to be worth the money or time to use. If you get one grain of sand caught on the cleaning surface (which you will, because it tends to fall down to the bottom of your tank, especially when rounding corners), you will proceed to scratch up the inside of your tank. The included string is perhaps the poorest quality I have ever seen. It deteriorates in water. I would say the only plus is that it is an aesthetically pleasing design, but it doesn't work. If anything it damaged my tank.

Tetra 77854 Whisper Air Pump, 60-Gallon

Tetra 77854 Whisper Air Pump, 60-Gallon...if you only use one of the two outputs(like I do), put a piece of hose onto the unused outlet it will muffle the noise it makes[I don't know why they don't tell you this in the pump instructions!]. If both outlets have hoses on them, whether they are in the water or not, this will be a quiet air pump. Having two outputs is great, you could easily feed two 30 gal tanks with this, and it seems like this could handle a 100 gal tank.

Also!: Make sure to position your bubbles emitting from your stone/bubblewall NOT near(under) your filter intake. The intake will take in the air bubbles and cause significant noise as it spits them out up near the filter[gheez, why don't they tell you this in the pump instructions!]. With a quiet pump and keeping your air bubbles away from the filter intake, you should have a system quiet enough to sleep next to. Therefore I don't recommend using a full length back bubble wall with a top filter, as the filter will take in the bubbles and cause noise.

Whatever you do, don't buy Top Fin pumps,...they're cheap and cheaply made too noisy. Both Tetra Whisper and Rena brands have superior quiet engineering.

Let's get something clear first, no air pump runs 100% quiet, no matter what the manufacturer says. Now the review :

After all the numerous mixed reviews, I decided to take a chance and get this air pump anyway, and I'm glad I did.

This pump, as the title says, is surprisingly quiet, the sound of the bubbles and the waves in my tank are actually louder than this pump, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that. I have an old, square shape, Aquaculture pump that was bugging me it was so loud. The Tetra Whisper pump emits a very, almost unnoticed hum. The pump has 2 outakes and comes included with the following:

The pump of course, instructions , 1T-adapter; 2 knobs/valves that help regulate the amount of bubbles you feed into the aquarium by increasing/decreasing air flow. This is actually perfect for those like me with a smaller tank, even though I have a 50 GAL, I don't have to have bubbles at full blast.

I had a problem with my wave maker stirring bubbles all over the place, but now with this new pump, I can have less bubbles in the area near the powerheads hooked to my wave maker. I'm currently using this pump with these: Elite 1-Inch Cylinder Air Stone, 4-Pack and so far, so good. Let the stones soak in your tank for at least 10 minutes before using them.

Some people recomend keeping the pump above water level, but in my 12 years of keeping aquariums I've never done that; just make sure you create a "drip loop" for the power cord with a screw or a push pin, so if water for some reason finds its way down, it will hang and drip at the loop and not reach the AC plug. You may also want to get these: 2 PCS Non-return Check Valves for Aquarium Air Pump to keep water from going into the pump during water changes or power outages.

If you ask me if I have any complaints about this pump, I'd say its size, but that's a minor issue for me, the dome shape of the pump was intentionally designed to reduce the amount of noise it makes, and it works.

The pump measurements are as follow:

7.5 inches long, 4.5 inches wide and 3 inches high.

Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase, the pump is well built, high quality and made to last. The best feature of course, its almost silent operation, I don't have to crank the volume up on my TV anymore.

One last tip, if you want this pump, or any other pump to make less noise, place it on top of a thick sock or an old fashioned mouse pad. That should absorb some of the vibrations.

Buy Tetra 77854 Whisper Air Pump, 60-Gallon Now

I've had this for a couple of months now and it's still super quiet...which I need as my tank is in my bedroom. Product is as described. ;-)

Read Best Reviews of Tetra 77854 Whisper Air Pump, 60-Gallon Here

My first aquarium pump was a Wal-Mart special. I had it running two decorations, and one side fizzled out. When I went to investigate the problem the air output nozzle had cracked and broken off.

Today I got my Tetra Whisper pump. I plugged this baby in and was pleasantly surprised. Air is now gushing out of my decorations and my aquarium feels healthier already. The pump is very quiet, and I cannot hear the pump over the sound of trickling water coming from my filter. The pump came with two airline regulators and a hose T valve.

I want to add more air to my tank like a bubble wand, and I will definitely look into another Tetra Pump.

Want Tetra 77854 Whisper Air Pump, 60-Gallon Discount?

The vibrations it makes are certainly not what I would describe as a "whisper", but it is quiet enough none-the-less.

Great bang for the buck--easily handles two large air stones at once.

Prevue Pet Products #31999 Small Round Cage 13' Dia X 23'HCage arrived needing to be assembled but for the price was not a hassle. Shipping was slow, top dome where hook is was yellow plastic cap while bottom of cage is green plastic. Would have been nice if colors matched but again for price I overlooked it.

Just purchased this small round cage. It's a great deal and turned out pretty roomy. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but it came NOT as a light green color (as pictured). Instead it came with a yellow base, and a red hanging hook. I picked this particular product mostly because of the green color. I was pretty disappointed that the product description failed to mention that the colors would be random.

Cat Dancer Complete Action Cat Toy

Cat Dancer Complete Action Cat ToyJust buy this cat dancer toy Cat Dancer Products Original Interactive Cat Toy and forget the wall-mount style.

I thought I'd be lazy and buy the wall-mount cat dancer I stuck the wall-mount part of it on the back of my bedroom door and the adhesive sticks way too much; no matter what I use to try and remove it, the residue and part of the foam will not come off the door. The cats quickly lost interest playing with it this way, they want ME to interact with them. I have more fancy moves than a stationary cat dancer mounted to a wall or door.

Plus I also think it's a bad idea to make this a toy where you do not supervise the cat's play the cardboard tubing eventually shreds and the bare wire can be dangerous to your cat.

Original Cat Dancer: 5 stars

Original Cat Dancer with Wall Mount: 2 stars just use it as the original and forget the wall mount.

Of all the cat toys I've ever spent money on this is the best. Its inexpensive and not a danger to the cat as other toys can be. But it is also the toy the cats prefer above all others!

Buy Cat Dancer Complete Action Cat Toy Now

Bought with included stick-um paw for $ from an Amazon seller. That is less than the price for the cat dancer alone at my local pet shop. ALL of my cats love the cat dancer but the stick-um paw does not hold up to their attacks (have tried duct tape too). Seems to me that if my cats love it THAT much, I need a plan B. I'm still experimenting but as the cat dancer even amuses my two 12 year old cats, I'd say it's one of the best if not the best cat toy ever.

Read Best Reviews of Cat Dancer Complete Action Cat Toy Here

All my cats love the dancer. They started playing with it at about a year old, still love it at 3, and the two 8 year olds have fun with it, too. However, they don't play with it when it's just mounted on a wall; I have to wave it around for them. But when I do wave it around, they go nuts. The little cardboard bits on the end eventually get chewed off and the wire eventually gets a bit crooked, but at $3.50 a pop (at my local pet store), I don't mind replacing it every 4 or 5 months.

Want Cat Dancer Complete Action Cat Toy Discount?

I have a 1yr-old cat and a 3-month old kitten and being active and playful cats, this was perfect for them. My mom introduced the Cat Dancer to me, saying how her older cats of 4+ yrs love it, and they're lazy, large cats.

I got the Complete Cat Dancer with the sticky wall mount for when I don't want to play. I actually have it attached to the door to the garage, and with a fan circulating the air, it kind of wiggles/flutters like a bug, and my cats love it.

I was concerned, at first, about using the wall mount because it is a strong sticky adhesive, so I didn't want to put it on a wall or wooden door out of fear it would peel paint.

Jardin Fishing Tank 2 Way Air Pump Manifold Taps Lever Valve

Jardin Fishing Tank 2 Way Air Pump Manifold Taps Lever ValveI am driving 2 sponge filters from one air pump. This was supposed to split the line and look nicer than the plastic manifold I was using. With only one valve open the air flowed fine. With both open, I didn't get any flow through the manifold. I went back to the plastic manifold. I tried it on multiple pumps and no dice. Don't waste your time with this.

These are perfect gang valves to use for any aquarium set up. They're metal which is a huge plus for me versus the usual plastic. Plastic ages and gets brittle, which means breaks far more easily than when new. Metal doesn't suffer from that problem, but can rust. I doubt these are stainless steel, but rather zinc plated or similar. However, put a check valve in line and they should never come in contact with tank water, only the humidity in the air.

As you can see from the picture above there is a black rubber plug on one end, this lets you hook up additional gang values if needed.

Why use these? They let you control how much air is going to any one thing. I'm using this on a 20g tall and a standard 10g tank to run a sponge filter in each. Due to the difference in depth of these two tanks, I have to limit the air going to the 10g so that both tanks get enough to operate.

Having a single air pump with multiple tanks is desireable to keep noise down. Start putting multiple air pumps in and you'll get a racket more than one already is.

Oceanic 82052 BioCube Aquarium, 29-Gallon

Oceanic 82052 BioCube Aquarium, 29-GallonInitially had a 5 star review and had to update it. After 6 months of ownership, I've had nothing but trouble with this system. The aquarium itself is OK... hard to mess up a block of glass and some plastic I guess. But the entire hood including bulbs, ballasts, and fans is just a poorly designed money pit. The fans do nothing but squeal for 10 minutes when they first come on. Originals did that and even the free replacements are now doing it. Already had to replace the $30 actinic bulb after only 6 months, and finally had to take out the bio balls as they were loading the tank with nitrates (common problem with bio balls). The hood traps all heat too, and I had to install a supplementary fan to remove heat from inside the aquarium. Finally, every time I take the hood off to do a cleaning and water change, if I don't set the hood down with a feather light touch, the daylight bulb has to be reseated before it'll work again as the connector isn't a good quality connector. This seemed like a simple and effective kit when I first bought it, hence the initial 5 star review. It's not until after the tank cycles and the electronics have been in use for a few months that you realize how much effort it takes to get this setup stable and working properly for a reef tank. After all my fiddling, improvements, and replacement parts, I've got it working but I dropped my rating considering all the quality issues I've had. If the hood electronics weren't such low quality, I'd probably rate it 4 stars.

I bought the biocube 29 about a year ago due to liking its appearance and the 'all-in-one' design. Having checked out a number of reviews, most of which were negative about the construction quality, thinking I knew best, I went ahead and purchased one. Should have listened to the reviews!

I have kept fish tanks, both fresh and salt water, for many years with essentially no problems. With this tank...where to start...first, the glass had a number of scratches and is also very easy to further scratch (probably had over a dozen tanks over the years and never had a single scratch). The midnight LEDS were not working within a week. To be fair the customer service at Oceanic were very fast and efficient and sent me a new transformer within a week which fixed the problem...until last week...when there was a bang and a smell of burning and no more nighttime LEDs. As many others appear to have experienced, the fans make an annoying loud squealing noise when initially switched on..this last for about 10 minutes. Other annoying problems such as the back tab to gain access to the filter system is almost impossible to open by hand. You also need to keep an extremely close eye on the water level indicator on the side of the tank, if it gets too low then lots of microbubbles will fill your tank, stressing fish and corals. This has been a big source of concern for me when travelling for longer than a week. Plus it means that you can't use automated fish feeders because as well as being very tricky to install, you get major water loss resulting in the bubble issue.

Finally, what actually got me to finally get around to expressing my unhappiness for this product with this review was the following. I head read reviews about fish 'jumping' into the filter system. I had looked at this carefully when I set the tank up and concluded that either this simply wasn't possible, that the design must have been changed or that people were overfilling their tanks. Well, I noticed that one of my firefishes had gone missing a couple of days ago which was strange as he appeared healthy and happy. Tonight I was changing the filter (whilst grappling to get in the compartment) and lo and behold there was my firefish lying on the bioballs cover. Thankfully, I keep the bioball levels a little lower than normal and he was still getting wet, although he does not look to be in good shape (he is currently hiding or maybe even back amongst the bioballs). Fingers crossed he will survive. So, it took a year to happen but, yes, fish can jump in the filter compartment. Unbelievable!

On the positive side, it does look nice, however for the very high cost there is an expectation of quality, and this falls very very short. Overall I have been extremely disappointed in the tank and it has been a constant source of annoyance.

p.s. Don't even consider the Oceanic protein skimmer, its is useless at drawing gunk and means you then have to move the filter to lie on the bioballs, totally idiotic.

Buy Oceanic 82052 BioCube Aquarium, 29-Gallon Now

Please, please please do not buy this product! I bought this tank about six months ago, and am into it about four hundred dollars with the stand. During the first week of ownership, several fish managed to get into the back chambers. I contacted the manufacturer, and was sent a divider to put up as a barrier to the back. A couple of months ago one of the lights went out, again I contacted the manfucturer and was sent a new set of bulbs and ballast. This morning I woke up to find gallons of water had poured out of the tank. A large fish had managed to get into the chamber that contains the water pump. While thrashing around in the back, the fish unhooked the tube to the pump, which basically created a fountain. Water entered the hood lights, as well as ran down the sides of the tank. The lighting system has been destroyed and water leaked into my heat ducts and onto my newly refinished hardwood floor downstairs. Fortunately I was home when all of this took place. If not, I would have a tank of dead fish and ruined floors. This tank is going into the garbage. It is the worst product I have ever bought!

Read Best Reviews of Oceanic 82052 BioCube Aquarium, 29-Gallon Here

This is the worst product you can buy. I bought a 29G biocube and after couple of months it started to leak. I tried to communicate to manufacturer and received no response for a while. You pay a lot of money for this piece of junk and they don't even test the sealing of the product. No real customer service and your warranty doesn't mean anything.

Never going to buy any Oceanic product.

Want Oceanic 82052 BioCube Aquarium, 29-Gallon Discount?

We have now owned our Biocube 29 gallon for over 4 years. The initial plus is the compact size and tidy design. I would not rate the "all in one" as a real plus as almost any decent aquarium shop can set you up with a regular tank, filter, lights and hood for less money and probably better quality. However it won't necessarily look as "neat" for the same amount of money. I would stress that this is not my first or last salt water tank.

Looks certainly rates five stars, neat in appearance, self contained.

Ease of use pretty easy to set up, but harder to clean than other tanks due to limited and difficult to open access doors. Removing the hood is not easy as the cables need to be disconnected or the whole assembly is awkward and heavy. While other tanks hoods are also not easy to remove you usually don't have to remove them to clean the tank, on the Biocube you are most likely going to have to. As for cleaning the glass a magnetic cleaner can't get around the curves so it is easier to do it with a (clean) scourer. The glass on our tank has not scratched at all in over 4 years. The stand has small opening for cables which makes wiring difficult.

Quality Poor, one star or less. Our tank leaked after four years. I just fixed it requiring cutting out the plastic filter box silicone and tank sealant on one rear edge and bottom of the other edge. Why did it leak? It was a manufacturing defect, the silicone was incorrectly applied on two seams missing the edge of the main glass entirely, it was amazing it took 4 years for the water to get past the plastic to glass seal on the outside that was not designed to be water tight. The sealant around the filter box was also beginning to leak but I doubt this would effect the efficiency of the system or pose any real problems. Fix time was about 3 hours, plus 48 hours for the sealant to cure. Hood fans also failed after running noisily for a short while, however they don't appear to be necessary, all they do is cause excessive water loss through evaporation. Like all systems with compact bulbs they do require replacement quite frequently, the ballast has also been replaced, and the parts are expensive.

Efficiency Everything seems to work well enough except the skimmer. It can't be used with the mechanical filter pad and is difficult to service, however we don't seem to need it even with live corals and quite a few fish. Tank lights get hot so you better have the tank in a fairly cool room.

Design Cube shape make the tank very good for a reef setup. This also helps with filtration as the live rock and sand (when cycled) act as a natural filter. However the water level is too high for the separation between the filter and main tank resulting in escaping fish. Most fish don't escape so if yours does you are better off taking it back and swapping it for another one that won't jump into your filter. (the fish that is)

Would I recommend it? Probably not, while it is not terrible there are certainly enough problems that other systems would be a better recommendation, especially for those new to salt water. The 29 gallon however is really small for a saltwater aquarium, especially a reef, and it does work. So if your requirement is a small saltwater reef and you no way want a bigger tank then this might be a good solution at least if you are lucky and get one that they manufactured properly.

Our tank right now We moved everything to a new 75 gallon reef tank (very easy to set up) when the tank leaked. Now it is fixed and filled again waiting to cycle and fill with who knows what fish, corals and invertebrates. We didn't scrap it so it really isn't a piece of junk despite what others might say, just not really that good either.

Zoo Med Turtle Clean 318 Submersible Filter

Zoo Med Turtle Clean 318 Submersible FilterThe bottom line is this is a small filter.

Small means that it holds far less waste than most collected from the water, and small in that it does not have a good way of filtering out a whole tank for your turtle. I have 1 red eared baby slider (about 4 inches now) and when he was the size of my fingernail this filter worked great, but as with all turtles size became an issue. Turtles get big, fast, and Kame (my baby turtle) has outgrown this filter already. The tank I have is a 10 gallon tank, filled more than halfway with water and I use a water cleanser and a sulfa block along with the filter to ensure the water is clean and not harmful to Kame. I have to agree with the previous reviewers in that it is a good filter to use WITH a much larger, and heavy duty filter, but in no way should you use this as your main filter for your turtle. You may think this is okay if you are just starting with a baby that is less than 4 inches long, but you will find out soon it was a bad investment.

I can't emphasize enough that I only have 1 turtle and I have already begin seeing the water getting dirty after about 2-3 days which is completely unacceptable. When caring for a turtle, especially a newborn, the water condition must always be as optimal and as clean as possible or he/she will get sick VERY quickly. I already experienced a scare this past week when I came home and the water was much more filthy than I had previously anticipated and I saw my poor baby turtle disgusted with his own swimming water. The reason it is so unhealthy is because turtles both drink the water they live in and secrete their waste in it, which means if you don't take care of the water and make sure it is clean every day (not meaning you have to clean it every day but it should not smell bad and should look clear every single day) then your turtle will get very sick and eventually not live a full life.

Lowdown: Do not let this be your only way of filtering the water in your tank, you will need at least 1 larger filter with this that has a greater gallon rotation (for 10 gallon tanks get a filter that has around 60-150 gph).

I suggest moving over completely to a Fluval canister filter 105 Fluval Aquarium Canister Filter up to 25 Gallon (search for "Fluval filter" on amazon) The Fluval canister filter itself is not inside the water, thus allowing more room for your turtle in his/her tank. Or an AquaClear Power filter Hagen AquaClear Power Filter 30 (150) (for fish but works impressively well with turtles) or an Eheim canister filter Eheim Canister Filter Classic Plus 2213 up to 55 Gallon (also outside of the water). Search Amazon for each of these products and you can view a variety of sizes for different tanks. It all depends on what type of setup you are looking for and how much room you are able to dedicate to your turtle tank and filter.

It is important to always buy bigger for your pet turtle, as they will grow fast, so it is always better to buy a tank that is larger than 10 or 20 gallons so that you will not have to invest in a whole new tank in the future, and your turtle will be happy to have more room to swim around in as already with my baby turtle 10 gallons is proving to be a little cramped. Male red slider turtles can grow up to 10 inches, and females can grow up to 13 inches in length.

When you look to buy a filter, if you already have a tank, remember to buy a filter that is meant for a tank that is 3 times the size of yours, this will ensure that the tank will stay clean and efficient. Also take into consideration the implementation of 'beneficial bacteria'. Beneficial bacteria can be used with some filters, not all, to help break down waste material from your turtle and pets and reduce bad odors. These are good because they are not harmful to your turtle and will keep the water clean. Also use sulfa blocks ReptoGuard Medicated Sulfa Block 20 g and water cleansers Zoo Med ReptiSafe Water Conditioner, 8.75 oz

It is important for all turtle owners to know that regardless of how efficient your tank is you should make water changes every 2 weeks by switching out 20% of the water and replacing it with new water.

I hope this has helped you have a better understanding of what filters are appropriate to use for turtles and how to prepare for the years ahead. If you have any more questions or suggestions please feel free to e-mail me at FOAMY89@gmail.com and if I have made any errors please let me know as I am beginning on this journey with a baby turtle for the first time as well and am trying to do as much research as possible.

Peace,

Neel

I bought the filter to work in conjunction with others in my tank (turtles are dirty). I had a problem with waste accumulating in a corner behind some rocks. The small size of the unit allows me keep that area clean without disturbing the "aesthetics" of the tank. Unit's filters are easily accessed for cleaning. The item was shipped quickly and has worked so well I'm going to replace my main filter with one of their larger units.

For small, really small, tanks or problem areas of large tanks it is great.

I have a 20 gallon tank for my turtle and it wasn't enough to keep her water clean. I had to clean her tank 3 times a week (which was a pain and I only had about 3 1/2 gallons of water in it!). It just didn't move water around or filter enough out to keep it clean.

It would work better for a smaller turtle maybe.

Crystal clear water and the first time in my life i've had turtles that don't smell horrific. Very quiet and can be mounted anyway which is great for sneaking it in somewhere where it won't impede the turtles swimming area.

Underwater Galleries AUG5402 Sea Cave, Small

Underwater Galleries AUG5402 Sea Cave, SmallI bought the small cave, and one of my Golden Rams really likes to hide in it. I did notice that algae appeared on it pretty fast, but I just clean it every couple of weeks or so.

I bought this cave for my blue lobster who loves it....he is a little hoarder bringing back scraps of food to his little cave..it's hysterical!

My Rainbow catfish has dug out all the gravel from the middle under the cave and sleeps on the glass tank bottom under this cave. Snails seem to like cleaning it as well.

This product was broken on arrival, and I'm not surprised now that I see it in person. The "rock" is only about 1/4 an inch thick, and is more so some ceramic material than actual rock. The packaging it arrived in was very bad as well, with a single layer of bubble wrap, in a very small box.

Blue lobster likes to hide under this. She is very small now and the size makes her feel secure. She's always in it except for feeding time.

Kent Marine AKMAD1400 Aquadose Drip for Aquarium, 1400ml

Kent Marine AKMAD1400 Aquadose Drip for Aquarium, 1400mlWhile the device pictured is the larger volume system (5 gal vs 1400 ml), the tubing included and the tubing described in the instructions for the 1400 ml set-up are not the same. The critical difference in the included tubing and the instructions has to do with the drip counter and adapter. The drip counter and adapter is not included in the included tubing even though the instructions show it.

The model that is pictured is the 2.5 gallon size which has a larger flat bottom and the drip system mounts from on side. The one that was delivered was the 1400ml(as described) but had a totally different shape than pictured and drip system came out of bottom. Beware! look up the type on the internet and get exact details from kent marine first, then decide if this fits your space/mounting needs.

Red Slime Remover - Treats 250 to 300 gallons

Red Slime Remover - Treats 250 to 300 gallonsRed slime remover works. Having said that, heed the warning about it messing with oxygen levels. I have never had it alter my Ph more than a couple 10ths of a point however after using it one time, as directed, I woke up the next morning to 6 dead fish and 3 dead corals. It could have been some underlying problem that went unnoticed but everything checked out normal when I did tests. I believe it was a drop in O2 levels that lead to the death, the fish that survived were laying on the sand "gasping". After an increase in air and a 20 gallon water change they perked right back to life.

Would I use it again? Yes. Do I trust the product? Yes. Will I aerate the water a little more next time I use it..if I have to..you bet.

I lost a yellow tang, six line wrasse, 2 velvet damsels, 1 blue/green reef chromis and a red scooter blenny, a colony of beautiful Aussie sun polyps worth close to $500.00, a trumpet coral and a small colony of zoanthids.

Not trying to scare people away from this product, it does work, among the deaths in the tank was the slime that was gone in a matter of a couple days. I had air running in there but perhaps not enough. Live and learn.

I used as directed and it seems the red slim ate it and got healthier, I feel like I wasted my money on this item

I used this product years ago to take care of a red algae problem. Did the job without any side effects. I had a recent outbreak again, I knew exactly what product to get to take care of the problem. I have read other reviews about people loosing fish due to oxygen starvation problems. Never occurred in any of my tanks (50 or 90 gallon).

When I added the powder to my tank I dropped it into my protein skimmer. I removed the collection cup, shut off the air to the skimmer pump, poured in the powder, let it mix for a minute then turned the air back on. I put the collection cup back on later. I think this approach really helped dissolve the powder and mix it better with the tanks water.

If you have concerns about this, add the mixture in a little bit at a time and watch your fish for any signs of distress.

API First Layer Pure Laterite Aquarium Planting Medium, 55-Ounce

API First Layer Pure Laterite Aquarium Planting Medium, 55-OunceBought some on Amazon, it was over $20 at all the nearby pet supplies stores. I mixed this into the lower gravel layer in my 20 gallon plant tank, containing mostly frill, cabomba, and java fern, and they are all doing extremely well. I don't use any other supplements in my tank, everything is 100% healthy!

This substrate is good for plants in long term. but make sure to wash it 2 times before adding into tank. it make my tank cloudy even though i use the best canister filter. Place a thick gravel on it (at least 1.5 inches).

Got this for my 5 gal tank. I placed about an inch of gravel on the bottom, layered the entire box over the gravel and topped it off with another inch of gravel. I placed my several plants prob about a dozen or so into the gravel and substrate. I read on one of the aquarium forums that you can use Jobe plant spikes (Only Jobe by the way, something about the chems the use in it). So I placed the plant spikes into the substrate under the plants.

WOW...WOW

After about a week everything was exploding. The plants were growing like crazy. I had to trim them after the first month. So yes this stuff works great but it is only a substrate..you still need to provide nutrients to the plants
