Perfecto Manufacturing APF33020 Glass Canopy Aquarium, 2.5-Gallon
It is the perfect size for the 2.5 Gallon Marineland Aquarium (11.5'' x 5.5'')! Fit like a glove.
You can tell that it is cut by another manufacture because the edges are a little rough (my original glass canopy made by Marineland had smoother straighter edges), but I didn't find this to be a problem. The glass canopy still looks excellent. Certainly much better than a taped together one.
And as a plus it comes with a clear plastic handle (about 2'' x 0.75'' x 0.5'') that sticks to the glass. But beware, once you but the handle on it won't come off. It is pretty much permanent. I like the handle, though, because it makes it easier to lift the top to feed the fish and clean the tank. Not to mention it is clear so it blends in well, and isn't an eye soar.
Now, lets just hope I don't break this one too.

Hagen Marina Background Solution, 1-Ounce
Buy Hagen Marina Background Solution, 1-Ounce Now
This product works as its intended, however I was hoping for a better dispensing solution. I was attempting to apply it straight to the fish tank since my backing kept rolling up and prevented me from applying according to the directions. But overall, once applied liberally, it worked perfectly for adhering the background to the tank.Read Best Reviews of Hagen Marina Background Solution, 1-Ounce Here
You could use this goop or some sort of vaseline based solution for your aquarium background. It was a messy, messy job as I spread the solution evenly over the background. I must not have done that great of a job because my background started bubbling and I eventually took it off. Maybe it's a user error, not the product. I wouldn't buy this stuff again because it's super messy and now I'm stuck with trying to wipe if off the back of my aquarium, yuk.I heard mineral oil works similar as this background solution. But I hoped this may work better, Everything was good at the beginning, but now after 6 month, about 15% of the area dried out and I have to apply the solution again.Saturday, July 5, 2014
EHEIM Classic External Canister Filter with Media
They are extremely efficient. A bit more expensive that the rest of canister filters out in the market. But in the long run, these are better since they last longer and the rarely break down.
Worried about the filtration on your aquarium??? Get one of these silent/efficient/reliable guys.I have been using my Eheim 2213 for 19 years now, and have never had to replace any parts, until now. It is an incredible filter, that keeps everything in the tank clear and fresh. The only complaint I have has already been fixed. The double shutoff connections that they've added will make cleaning it so much easier. 19 years ago, they didn't have these, but I may buy some extras. I've heard that the only downfall for Eheim is ordering replacement parts. The only thing needing replacement is the suction cups that hold the parts in place inside of the tank. Everything else is wonderful!
I would definitely recommend this to others. Especially with a good price for a canister filter.
Buy EHEIM Classic External Canister Filter with Media Now
I bought my 2211-37 in late August 2010 and have it filtering a 16 gallon aquarium with one 5 inch goldfish (2 inches body, 3 inches tail). I'm guessing it can probably support 3 or 4 inches of goldfish not counting tail. (Goldfish are very messy, and a power filter on this tank cannot keep up.) The 2211 keeps up just fine--the water is crystal clear, and the ammonia and nitrite are zero. The pump is silent. It came with all the filter media, piping and quick disconnect couplers for both the intake and outflow--everything you need. My outflow coupler arrived cracked, and Fancy Pants Pets replaced it no charge. There is no internal canister to hold the media like in the 2213. The media sets directly in the can with a separator plate at the bottom to provide some space at the intake before the water flows through the bio media. The bio cylinders and bio balls are separated by the coarse filter pad. The fine filter pad and charcoal pad sit atop the bio balls, and a separator plate goes in on top to keep stuff out of the pump at the top. Cleaning is very easy and quick. There is no primer, so to prime the first time, you need to suck on the outflow. After that, you can prime the filter by leaving the intake filled with water at the coupling, opening the outflow coupler, then opening the intake coupler. The spray bar puts out quite a bit of flow (79 gph), I'd guess about 2/3 of what the 2213 does, so that's a lot of flow for a small tank like this, but not too much for my goldfish--she loves it. The pipes on the 2213 are both 12 mm, but on the 2211 the return pipe is only 9 mm while the intake is 12 mm. The height of the unit is 11.75 inches, but the return pipe climbs up a 1/4 inch higher, and you're going to want at least 12.5 inches to clear the unit. The canister is 4 inches across and a 5 inch square base is provided for the canister to rest in for added stability. This is an excellent filter for tanks 20 gallons and less (Eheim says up to 40 gallons, but if you've got goldfish in more than 20 gallons, you're going to want more filter). Max install height is 5 feet 10 inches. The 2211 is definitely worth the money over the hang on the back filters, which have much less bio filter capability and don't run silent like this one. The 2211 is also more suitable for small tanks than the 2213 is, which has a bit too much flow for under 20 gallons.July 2011 UPDATE: I've had this filter on this tank for almost a year now. In that time I've had to clean it 4 times--it needs cleaning more often than the larger Eheim filters due to the smaller diameter. The good news is it's pretty easy to clean. (You know it needs cleaning when you see reduced outflow during a water change. I take care when cleaning my canister filters to keep the bio media submersed in tank water during the cleaning so as to keep the bacteria alive.) I have kept three different goldfish in the tank during the past year (one at a time). After the 5 inch veil tale above, a 6 inch fantail which kept his tank pretty clean for a goldfish, and more recently a 5 inch pearlscale which leaves more food and poop in the tank. The Eheim has kept the tank crystal clear and the water quality perfect all the time and given me no trouble. The 2211 is even quieter than when it was new, which is pretty close to silent. This is a great little filter for small tanks, and I'm very happy with it.

This is the best and only filter I will ever own for my tank. It is very cost effective. I used to run the Bio-wheel and or the Whisper type filters. I found those filters to not last long and would have to change filters every 2 weeks. With this filter, changes are at about 3 month intervals however, I still recommend you do your normal water changes. The filter is extremely quite and is easy to set up.Want EHEIM Classic External Canister Filter with Media Discount?
The Eheim 2217 canister filter is a great workhorse. It provides mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration in a compact and nearly silent package. Like all external canister filters, it's best if you have an enclosed cabinet in your tank stand where it can be kept out of sight. The instruction manual leaves a little to be desired. The illustrations are small and it's not always obvious which image goes which which instruction. However, once you sort out the various filter elements (coarse and fine filter pads, activated carbon pad, ceramic coarse mechanical filter material, and biological filter substrate) it's straightforward to get set up.
The filter comes with intake and outflow tubing as well as quick-disconnect valves for ease of cleaning. The filter stack must be mostly disassembled when replacing the filter pads, but it is neither complex nor overly time-consuming. The results speak for themselves: clear water, stable conditions, thriving fish. I'm very glad I bought the Eheim.

BiOrb 105L Aquarium with LED, Black
IF this tank had even slightly adequate lighting for live plants then I'd probably rate it a 5. I intend to retrofit the lighting somehow and am unsure what is going to end up working.
Lighting ISSUES aside... I LOVE the way this tank looks having set it up with lots of drift wood and Java Moss (I really NEED to supplement the lighting soon for the live plants) I have set it up with a platy, 1 molly, 1 white cloud (5 more soon), 7 varied danios, a male betta, 5 bamboo shrimp, 11 glass shrimp and I intend to add some dwarf flame gouramis and maybe a few killifish after some research (because the Betta is related) on if they will work.
I have added copious amounts of cycled rocks & ornaments as well as cycling & balancing chemicals and continue to recheck the water for toxic buildup and do water changes ALL because I have over stocked this tank too soon. Hopefully with constant attention it will be fine.
LASTLY & IMPORTANTLY... Check the tank for imperfections BEFORE you set it up!!! I found some micro cracks & ripples after I set it up and am keeping an eye on them to make sure everything remains stable.
Basically & suggest that you do NOT jump in as fast as I have unless you have some depth of previous experience. My reviews re never long, this aquRIUM LOOKS GREAT. tHE ONLY DRAW BACK IN MY OPIONION IS THE FILTRATION, i HAD TO PUT IN ANOTHER FILTER IN THE AQUARIUM TO HELP THE Original..Thats all sorry for the capitalization issue, I am not going back to fix..

Current Usa ACU01121 Nova Extreme 4-Lamp T5HO Fixture with 2 Fans, 36-Inch
These T5 high output (HO) bulbs also contain alot less mercury than other flourescent bulbs.Otherwise bulb mounts are delicate and clear plexi cover handle requires care. I probably would have rather had the 6 bulb unit but I'd buy this again for the price. Metal case and seems solid other than what I mentioned.
Rated low because of the fam and the Leg that cracked and is now duct taped.

I had this unit for about a year and a half before one of the ballasts went bad. Contacted the manufacturer and was told the ballast was discontinued. They gave me a link to a replacement so I ordered it and when it arrived it was a totally different size with a different wiring configuration. So now I'm out 200 plus the 40 dollar ballast. I contacted them again after this and was brushed off. Lee's Ultimate GravelVac Cleaning Claw
Buy Lee's Ultimate GravelVac Cleaning Claw Now
I've always used a nylon stocking to cover the intake of my Python brand gravel vacuum/water changer when I wasn't using it to vacuum and wanted to keep fish from getting sucked in while changing the water. The nylon is drippy after, and it doesn't look professional (I clean tanks.) While this Lee's Cleaning Claw doesn't keep small fry from getting in like the nylon stocking, it does keep regular fish from getting in and looks more professional. It also aerates the returning water a bit more when refilling the tank.As a gravel cleaning attachment, I don't get good results with either a deep bed of Flourish or a thin bed of regular gravel, so I continue to use the tube uncovered. However, I could see that it would be a good implement for poking around the deep recesses of a heavily-planted aquarium to just get the mulm on the surface of the substrate without accidentally sucking up an unseen fish.

Hydor MULTI-LIGHT LED for Small Aquariums Green On/Off Switch UL
Pros:
-Flexible & compact
-Has an on & off switch
Cons:
-Plastic type screw attachment to secure to tank edge is cheaply made
-It will not fit most small tank edges for which it is made for (I hung it over a cabinet handle above my tank)
-Only shines 4 small led lights in one area
-Item was not packed in packaging...it was loose in the box (poor shipment)
My suggestion to avid aquarium hobbyists...find a better lighting product for your small or sick tanks! Made in CHINA!

API Stress Coat Water Conditioner, 1-Gallon
Buy API Stress Coat Water Conditioner, 1-Gallon Now
I've been using this product for both my pond fish and aquarium fish on a regular basis. Doing partial water changes seems to be less stressful for the fish when using this product. But then, of course, I'm not a fish, so I am just guessing. At least, I've never had a problem with partial or complete water changes or topping off either the aquarium or the pond due to evaporation. It helps with their slime coat and after using it, I do water tests for ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, etc., and the chlorine always shows negative. I buy this stuff by the gallon as it's much cheaper that way.
It's also recommended for use after handling or netting the fish or for any stressful situations. So far, all of our fish are doing great and growing like weeds.
I plan to continue to use it.

I have used this product for years and it has never failed me. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to take good care of their fish.Purchased this one gallon API Stress Coat Water Conditioner as I was doing frequent water changes & got tired of buying the 16 oz size. Running a 75 gallon tank with a Fluvial 405 & Aqueon 55/75 filters. The tank houses 3 Oscars grown to 11-12 inches each, a 14 inch Pleco, smaller spotted catfish & a 6 inch Jack Dempsey cichlid. These guys (mostly the Oscars) make a lot of mess & the water was getting very cloudy to the point of not being able to see anything in the tank. Bought a 9 watt UV filter to fix that but still need lits of stress coat / water conditioner for the water changes.
