this stuff is a polymer dust that you are supposed to mix with medications and food.

you then are supposed to add water and stir it up.

you put the results in a tank and it quickly sinks and makes a mess.

the seachem people said in the forums that what i just said is expected.

i'm not so sure my fish are eating this slurry i am putting in the tank.

i would rather use maracyn II and treat in a hospital tank

Trouble I've found with most hideouts is that they are typically way too small for most aquatic turtles. The thing I really liked about this one when ordering was the height. There seemed to be plenty of room for a turtle to hang out in the cave. The problem I found when I received it was that the opening was much too narrow for most aquatic turtles to use. I ended up using some tools (hammer & saw) to enlarge the opening. Once I did that, my turtle ended up loving the new addition to the habitat.

My turtles have grown since I purchased their original turtle dock. They were getting so large that they sunk the old turtle dock (small), so I knew I needed a larger one. The product is just what my turtles needed so that they can come out of the water to bask. The only odd thing is that when it arrived (in its original packaging) it was kind of oily and sandy feeling, but I just washed it off.

I have been searching for a basking rock to fit my 40 gallon breeder and this one fits perfectly, and also it a prefect fit for my turtle. The basking rock fits nicely and is the exact width of the tank.

1st I must say. Some if not most of zoomeds items like this basking dock is made with a paint-like substance that peels off into my clean turtle tank...I'm unsure how safe it it or if its lead ..if so then lawsuits can follow if someone's pet dies due to swallowing this...I don't know but I'm tired of scooping up the partials that comes from this item. Maybe its foam dunked in paint but ZooMed need to create something more safer than this coating. And it was gritty coming out of the box so I rinsed it off and it still has particles that float into my clean water.

If this didn't happen it would b great...

My turtle likes to climb on it but he has to get used to it after using another bank made differently.

May not be pretty as my 4 year old put it, but it looks like the picture and works as stated. I do have a very small turtle though I added weights to my dock and it will hold 1 lb 5 oz up out of the water before sinking under.

Had the grainy sand stuff but rinsed it off before putting in the tank (who would not wash something new before exposing there animals to it any way?). No scrubbing as it is foam afterall. I like it, my kid's turtle likes it, and it is as advertised so thumbs up.

I also think it is great ZooMed provides products I can afford that work. I also use their turtle filter.

The design requires improvement due to the suction cups not staying put. It would have been better if it was designed to hook over the edge of the tank for stability. I am going to have to "rig" this dock in order for it to work, because the turtles can't enjoy it when it's floating freely around the tank. Not impressed at all.

Great product. Plenty of room for my skimmer, uv sterilizer and heater in the first section. The refugium section is pretty big too. I have two decent sized rocks in there with plenty of sand and there is still enough room for a few damsels. It did ship with a small crack in it (looked to be from shipping, the box was slightly damaged near the crack). The seller was more than happy to work with me and replace it, but it was more hassle for me to return it than fix it because the (small) crack was above where the water level would ever be. I would definitely recommend this product and this seller.

Not much to say about this product, other than it works great. Pull the cover off of the double sided sticky tape on the bottom, stick to your glass aquarium top and let it sit there for a few hours to properly bond. Now you have a handle for your tank.

Can be handy if you've got a really tight fit, or if you don't want a little gap at the front of the tank which you can get with the handles that just slide over the front of the glass, vs. these which stick to the top.

I bought two initially, eventually ordered another half a dozen for all of my tanks.

After having my turtle for about 6 months I decided I needed an upgrade from my 10 gallon tank (not by this company). I spent weeks looking around at tanks and either couldn't find one to fit my stand because it was too long, or couldn't find a screen to cover the top. After coming across this tank, and later getting it as a Christmas gift, I can say that I couldn't be any happier with a tank! The tank allows plenty of room for my yellow-bellied slider to swim around and stay warm under his lamp. I didn't notice the detail of the larger model not having a hinged screen before getting it, but the screen fits like a glove! Mine doesn't close fully due to the filter model I have on one side, but it still allows for a snug fit around the rest of the edges. Overall, a wonderful tank.

Let me start with a review of the aquarium. Beautiful aquarium but will need some modifications. For your filter system, no hang on back (HOB) filter will fit the lid, neither will the hoses for an under-tank filter. And if you intend to run a protein skimmer, you'll need to further modify the lid. I used a Dremel multi-tool with a cutoff bit as well as a rafter square to keep my cuts straight. The base is pretty nice looking and was easy to assemble. But, it does not come with a shelf. I added one by drilling four holes for shelf pegs and cut a shelf out of particle board. I guess if you're an aquarist none of this will be new to you. All in all, I would recommend this aquarium. Now, why did I give it one star? It took Amazon five delivery attempts (both UPS and FedEx) and I got five broken aquariums, all sent back. Of course this was over the course of a couple of months. Finally, I asked Amazon for a refund (which they gladly gave me), and decided to pay the extra couple hundred bucks and ordered one from petco dot com. I received that order in less than a week and was palletized, wrapped, and protected. Got the aquarium unbroken first try. To sum it up, very nice aquarium but be prepared to do some modifications, and order it from someone other than Amazon.

Bought this item expecting the stand to come with it. Received tank, the box said 1 of 2 boxes do not separate, part of a set. But never received stand. Never got two tracking numbers or any info on the stand. Had a nick in the top of the tank not a big deal but really need something to put it on.

My vet recommended to switch to stainless steel bowls, since my cats developed acne. I have purchased several bowls from different manufacturers, including a couple from Loving Pets Hearts Bella. I watch my granddog and she is a Bichon. This is the perfect size for her food. I had a plastic bowl with a picture on the bottom from the dollar store but this is so much better. I would like to use it for water because I think the metal would keep the water cooler longer but it is too small and i will have to keep filling it up. This size is just right for her food. I might order a larger one for her water. The color on the outside is a metallic which is really very pretty.

I have the 48" version of these lights and they are great. T5 lights (5/8" in diameter) produce an amazing amount of lumens for their wattage (over T8 or T12). I like that you can control the full daylight lamps, the blue actinic lamps, the moonlights and the fan individually. The only downside to this light system is that the four T5 lights do not have individual parabolic reflectors like the Tek lights. But I still think these lights get 5 stars due to their price. If you need more light output (maybe you're setting up a reef aquarium), then go with the Tek system. I'm doing fish only and I took out two of the four bulbs because it was so bright.

These T5 high output (HO) bulbs also contain alot less mercury than other flourescent bulbs.

Otherwise bulb mounts are delicate and clear plexi cover handle requires care. I probably would have rather had the 6 bulb unit but I'd buy this again for the price. Metal case and seems solid other than what I mentioned.

Rated low because of the fam and the Leg that cracked and is now duct taped.

I had this unit for about a year and a half before one of the ballasts went bad. Contacted the manufacturer and was told the ballast was discontinued. They gave me a link to a replacement so I ordered it and when it arrived it was a totally different size with a different wiring configuration. So now I'm out 200 plus the 40 dollar ballast. I contacted them again after this and was brushed off. Terrible product and equally terrible customer support!!!!!

To start off, I'd like to say that this filter doesn't do a bad job with actually filtering the water. In fact, for a month, without water changes, it kept the water crystal clear in my 10 gallon tank. However, when I finally cleaned the tank after a month, I discovered an insane amount of debris in the gravel and had to do a full water change, which was okay only because I use that tank for a betta. It is possible that I just had bad gravel in there at the time and no filter actually sucks out of the gravel, but I feel as though so much debris shouldn't have accumulated at the bottom.

That being said, there are other filters that can do the same while not being problematic in the following areas like this filter is:

1) The suction cups on this filter are terrible. In addition to that, its design is horrible. Basically there's no way of raising the lip of this filter high enough to keep your water level all the way to the rim of the tank. And the suction cups can't seem to properly support the weight of this filter, so it will often fall off.

2) It looks ugly and consumes a lot of space in the tank. The reason I'm taking appearance into account is because the whole purpose of having an aquarium is so that it looks nice. When you place a large bulky object into it, it won't look aesthetically pleasing at all.

3) After only a few months, I began to notice that it keeps alternating between being quiet and loud. So for some time you will hear nothing and then suddenly you start to hear this loud humming noise. Then, after five minutes of making this obnoxious noise it will quiet down again. This is probably my biggest problem with the filter.

My suggestion is to buy the Aquaclear 20 for 10 gallon tanks. It is a much more complex filter and it hangs over the side. The motor is quiet and the intake tube doesn't create the strong current that this filter creates as its sucking water in. It costs a few dollars more, but is totally worth it.

I'm not a pro fish person. I bought a 5 gallon tank for my daughter's betta when she wanted to get it a 'girlfriend'. The filter that came with the tank was crap. But I'm not wanting to spend a load on 5 dollars of fish. This filter is great! Silent. Powerful. Tank was spotless in 30 minutes. Fish are happy, I'm happy, wallet's happy!

Must say I've read some of the other reviews and have been confounded. I have a *baby* Betta in a 5 gallon tank right now and there is no possible way the 10i filter

could "suck him in" ???

filter. IMHO this filter is excellent. Correct draw (unlike the Aqueon which required the flow to "kick up" waste from the bottom and raise it to the surface which is

ineffective and really annoyed the fish) Filter is quiet, effective, not too big and flow doesn't disturb even a small Betta. It also cleaned up a slight fungus problem

from the moment I turned it on.

Fluval FX5 External Canister Filter

I've had my Fluval FX5 since summer of 2008 and have been running it non-stop since then on a 125 gallon freshwater aquarium. In 2009 I added a Coralife Turbo-Twist UV Sterilizer (36 W) and my water has been absolutely crystal clear for months at a time (I highly recommend this addition). The few times I've noticed it get a little murky (when the curtain was open and sunlight enhanced algae growth) it was totally clear within 12 hours.

The Fluval FX5 is a great filter but requires regular cleaning (every 1-3 months full filter clean). However, you don't need to replace all of the media each time you clean the filter (which can get really expensive). Instead, you can use a garden hose or similar very strong spray to clean the main filter sponges (around the edges of the filter) and the blue filter pads. The white polishing pad should be replaced regularly. I rinse the bio media in tank water and dechlorinated fresh water to get rid of any chunks of things.

As others have said, expect a tiny bit of water when you close the valves and remove the hoses to move the filter, which makes sense since there's about 2" between the valve shut off and the filter. I keep a towel wrapped around when I remove the hose and have never had an issue with getting my hardwood floors wet.

The filter, when full of media and water is heavy but not too bad. It weighs around 40-50 lbs like that (depending on your media).

I suggest having tube cleaning brushes on hand to clean out the intake and output tubes (the ones in the filter no need to remove the filter tubes from the filter to the aquarium). Otherwise a sponge will clean the inside of the filter perfectly and a strong spray will clean everything else.

When it's running it is incredibly quiet. And as others have said, it's good to note that when you first turn it on it will run for 2 minutes then shut off for 2 minutes then will run for about 24 hours then shut off for two minutes and turn back on. It will do that every 24 hours to remove air in the system.

A few things to note:

This filter has incredible suction, it's made for a 400 gallon tank. Don't place plants or bubble makers anywhere near it or it will suck the plants against and in and the bubbles up (that will make your filter noisy).

If you are breeding anything in your tank, expect to find babies in the filter. I find Corydora catfish in the filter all the time. They're alive and fine, but need to be moved to the main tank rather quickly so clean the filter every month. Thin skinny fish like loaches may be sucked up into the filter if they can't swim fast enough so you may want to put a breeding basket around it to keep them away but not hinder the filter intake.

The media is expensive, but you can make your own rough filter pads (open hole filled black filter media), and carbon bags much cheaper than buying the premade media. However, the rest you'll want to buy real Fluval parts (search for best prices).

Remember to fill it until it's about 1-1.5" from the top before attaching to to the hoses. You don't want the filter to have to work too hard to finish filling. It is self priming but needs that much help to make it work effectively.

If you hear it struggling after you hook it up (and you added enough water) it's because there's too much air in the system, turn it off, wait about 15 seconds, turn it back on. You'll see a huge mass of bubbles come out then it will work fine.

Remember to open the valves once you have it hooked up to the hoses before plugging it in. Yes I've plugged it in and forgotten to open the valves.

Overall I highly recommend this filter for any tanks 100 gallons and greater.

I've been running the FX5 on a 125 gallon turtle setup for about two months now. Setup is very easy, especially if you have previous experience with canister filters. I saw another review that stated that the filter was noisy, but mine is pretty quiet even when the tank stand's door is open and the filter is exposed to the room. My flowrate has been relatively high, especially considering that it is packed with biomax and polishing pads. It is important to note that unlike other Fluval canisters, this beast actually filters water from top down, so you'll want your finer media like polishing pads in the bottom basket.

I docked a star because I am not a big fan of the design of the internal media baskets, nor do I like the cheap plastic 'T' rods that are used to pull them out. Also, despite the stop valves on the intake and outtake hoses, be ready to clean-up water when detaching for routine cleaning.

Although the Eheim Professional Canister Filters are arguably better for certain purposes, you aren't going to beat the value of the Fluval FX5. The features and specs you get are equivalent to several much more expensive filter options.

I got one of these from my local F/S, and it works great. It is very large though, which to me is a good thing. More Water volume which is always a plus with saltwater aquariums. It comes with a DVD that tells you how to set it up. You don't really need the DVD, because it is quite simple to set up and get started. It comes with more than enough hose to do the job. I have the hose coiled around in the bottom of my stand it is so long. Every night it shuts off to let the air bubbles escape and then turn back on. You don't have to do anything to start it. So far their have been no leaks or mechanical failures.

I'll keep it short and to the facts.

The FX5 does everything it is advertised to and is very quiet. I am using it on an 85 gallon freshwater tank stocked with 7 3-4 inch African Cichlids, 10 2 inch clown loaches, 10 tiny convicts, one 6 inch plecostomus, and 2 one inch rays. I only add aquarium salt to the tank and treat the tap water with Aquasafe during 25% water changes once a week; no other chemicals. After running the FX5 for 3 days I tested the water for ammonia (0 ppm), ph (7.5), nitrite (.5 ppm), and nitrate (40 ppm); all within tolerances for an established community tank, albeit a little low for the cichlids.

My conclusion? The FX5 rocks and is well worth the money.

My long journey to this conclusion (in short form)-

I read all of the reviews and ordered an Eheim Pro 3 2180 a couple of months ago. Sent it back immediately because I use salt in the water and that would destroy the internal water heater and subsequently the pump (according to the Eheim technician).

I then ordered an Eheim Pro 3e 2076; it came, it leaked profusely at the pump-to-canister seal (made an incredible mess), tried all of the solutions mentioned in the troubleshooting section of the documentation, called the tech line to no avail, returned the pump for full refund.

I then ordered an Eheim Pro 3e 2078; it came, it leaked profusely at the pump-to-canister seal also, became disgusted at the product quality, returned the unit for a full refund.

I then ordered the Fluval FX5; it came, it worked as stated, I'm very happy!

I really like this pump. It keeps the water in my 150g crystal clear and my fish happy. Recently though I have been having problems with it. Every couple of days the pump quits working. I have to then take the pump off the unit and pull it apart to see what the issue is. I haven't found anything obvious but whenever I do that it seems to do the trick. I thought it was the substrate that I use but it wasn't dirty. I'm kind of clueless on this one. I'm going to email fluval and see what they say. I might just have a defective pump. Like I said earlier when this pump works it's awesome so most likely the one you get will work fine. I just thought that i would spread the word.

UPDATE: NOV 16,2011Pump works great. Had too much media in the system and I was blocking the flow of water basically. I would definitely buy this pump for my aquarium. You can't go wrong with this one.

ok so I've had this heater for 6 months and one day i was about to feed my fish...and I always tap on the glass to get them to come to the top of the tank and I saw that some of them were at the bottom, some were just swimming in the corner, and the rest just didn't come to the top...so I was like "what is wrong with these fish"? so I put my hand on the glass and it was HOT!!!! I looked at my thermometer and saw that the temperature was 98 degrees!!!! I started freaking out...so I unplugged the heater...opened the lid and set a fan to blow on it...I got some plastic bags and filled them with ice and floated them on the top to bring down the temperature...I was doing everything I could think of...this was all at 1 a.m. in the morning btw...so I went to sleep worried about these fish...in the morning the temperature had gone down to normal...and I lost 2 fish...i was really upset...but then i realized i had to buy another heater because if I left it without one the fish would get too cold and die...so I had to go to the store and buy another the next day...anyway, the moral of the story is if you have the money to buy a better heater, please do...because if I hadn't have caught it early i would have lost every single fish...so just spend the extra 10 or 20 bucks...hope this review helps...

At first I didn't think this item worked, because I placed it in my 55 gallon tank horizontally as an option shown in the instructions. Heater never came on. After about 3-4 days, I decided I would try it vertically, like you would normally put a heater in an aquarium, and it has been working perfectly ever since. So, I would recommend this aquarium heater as long as you don't place it sideways in your aquarium.

Started dosing vodka 2 months ago. I have been slowly working my way up to eliminate nitrates. I have been following the commonly used online guides. After a month and a half my nitrates had still not moved from 25ppm. I have now been dosing MB7 on top of the vodka for a little over a week and still my nitrates remain at 25ppm.

I think the bubbler part does an ok job of producing bubbles when plugged in but the bright lights can't be turned off and

my glofish doesn't like the lights. He will sit in one place and not move until the lights are off. So, I turned it on it's side so the lights are facing out of the tank and I actually think it's bubbling better b/c it's closer to the filter now. Wish I could turn the lights off but will work ok this way!

I recently set up a new, 5 gallon, aquarium without a definite idea about what fish I would like to have. I bought an inexpensive kit that contained the aquarium, filter, hood, lights... basic stuff. I set it up and let it run a few days and then headed to the fish store and got 4 Glofish. So cute!, but I didn't have a blue light to show off their colors. I found this bubbler yesterday and I think it works great. It is a little bright, but you could bury it in rock a little to subdue the brightness, or just not plug the a/c into the wall. The bubbles are great, if you want fewer bubbles buy a gang valve, which will allow you to adujust the amount of air going into the bubbler. All-in-all, I think the light creates a nice glow on my fish (the yellow/green fish glow best), and the bubbles add plenty of oxygen to my tank.

Product adds a nice LED bubble effect to GloFish aquarium. Bubbles are a bit strong for my little tetras in a five gallon tank and there is no off switch for the LED light that is emmitted from the bubbler. I just use a timer so I'm not bothered with turning it on & off.

It is inexpensive. There is no tubing or pump for the bubbler, so you are getting the LED disc only. The biggest problem with this is that the beam is very narrow, almost like a flashlight beam, so don't expect it to light up your tank. I surrounded the disc with rocks, then put a crystal my daughter had in her rock collection on top of it. It looks very cool.

Fluval G6 Fine Pre-Filter Cartridge

Does an amazing job at cleaning out the water of all fine floating dit, but gets clogged quick and raises the nitrates, need to clean and change often.

I swap this with the other G6 pre-filter cartridge and generally trap more with this one. It also seems to stand up to the cleaning better as well. Right now, with a 60 gallon tank, I'm cleaning it every 3-4 weeks. The G6 reports flow only dropping to about 50% around that time.

Acurel LLC Extreme Activated Carbon Pellets, 45-Ounce

I have a fountain for my cats and also a forever filter that only needs the carbon replaced. I have had mixed results with the carbon that is sold in most stores. I've also wondered just how effectively it really filtered. While I've only had the pelletized carbon less than a week, I have actually seen a huge difference in the filtration. It does require a rinsing to remove all the dust, like ordinary activated carbon, but it does seems to trap more impurities from the water.

Also, since it is in pellet form and all the pellets are the same size, the actual flow through the filter/carbon is more predictable and constant.

Now all my flow issues are with the pre-filter to the pump and the actual pump itself.

This really clears up my 12 gallon fluval tank , way better than the original Hagen carbon, I fill use this in a mesh bag I bought from Amazon. which i refill. Very good product will buy again.
