Pressurized Pond Filter

I just purchased the Fishmate 500 UV filter. I have a small pond which I was using a Sunterra UV filter the UV stopped working and the pond has not been clear for months. I installed the filter on Friday and by Sunday you could see the gravel on the bottom. They recommend running the filter 24 hrs a day but I have been shutting off at night and it still cleaned up the pond. I is so easy to open and close, with my old filter it was a nightmare of trying to hold the "O" ring in place and line it up to close the plastic clamps. With the fishmate the "O" ring fits into a groove on the base and the top is easily put on and clamped shut, if I had known that it would work so well I would have optted for the 1000 UV. The only downside could be the recommended cleaning once a week.

This filter worked great. Cleared up my pond in 5 days. Crystal clear. The only down side is, it was not made clear that this filter requires a seperate outside pump to run it. So plan on spending another $100 on a pump and hoses.

I purchased the 500p-UV to replace an existing filter/UV that sprung a leak in the seal that protected the UV light. The damage was going to cost $150 so I opted for a new unit. This one was a step down from the Oasis unit I had, but Oasis is no longer sold in the US. The problems I had with the Fish Mate were that the unit requires dissasembly for a weekly cleaning while better units only require the turn of a knob to back flush. Also, the 500 in the 500 P-UV means it works for a 500 gallon pond, but only a 350 gal/hour pump. The 1000 P-UV will go to a 650 gal/hour. That was not mentioned in the description. So its going back and I'm looking for a larger unit.

Within just one week of installing the Fish Mate 500 our pond was cleared of the soupy green stuff. I squeezed out the filter pads once a week for about a month, then once a month,then hardly every. The pond water is clear and the plants and fish are thriving.

I have had a long standing problem for the last couple of years with two small ponds that are part of a water feature. I live on a barrier island and both ponds were pristine until they were flooded during a hurricane. Ever since then I've been fighting a losing battle with algae. The pond with the sunnier exposure had thick algae blooms that I found impossible to control. The water looked like pea soup. Periodically I'd dump Clorox in them which would kill the algae temporarily but the ponds would remain turbid. I tried pool shock... even went to the extreme of dumping an entire container of pool shock in there... but it wouldn't clarify.

Then I got the Fish Mate 500 filter.

I was a little uncertain as to how effective this was going to be so my installation was kind of temporary: I used a 300 GPH pump I had laying around along with 1/2" tubing I had to heat before I could get it stretched over the fittings on the filters. So the pump and its tubing are both smaller than the manufacturer intended.

I have watched this pond improve almost on an hourly basis since then. It is quite clear already and it hasn't run for a week yet. If it got no better I'd still be satisfied. I'm wondering what will happen when I clean it the first time: how much better can it get when it starts without that huge load of dead algae to contend with?

Since my ponds are directly adjacent to one another with just a narrow path between them, I'm thinking of alternating the use of the filter between one pond and the other. I'll just bury the tubing so it's not obvious and leave the filter itself located centrally. It does not have to be in the water itself. The only thing that must is the intake for the pump.

This is a GREAT product... I wish I'd bought one when my algae problem first took off. If there is any negative at all, be VERY careful when you remove the lid off the filter: there are some pretty flimsy plastic tabs located along its inside edges. I managed to break one off within my first minute of opening it. The tabs are probably there to help align the lid but losing one didn't seem to hurt anything. Still, I assume they're there for a reason.

Mini UV #1 started going on and off as it deemed necesssary until in a little over a month, stopped working.

Mini UV #2 as I plugged it it, it flashed yellow, and went out. Bulb this time.

I took one half from one, and the bulb from another and it has been working for a week.

Pet Solutions were no help and basically told me to contact Oceanic.

Wont be buying a third. Definately not from Pet solutions.

This product is a nice sterilizer and can be used in a wide variety of applications, even though it was designed for BioCubes specifically. If you're interested in this product then I would recommend you buy it; there is no reason I can find not to.

I am using this UV Sterilizer in an older model BioCube 14 Gal. I had one of the previous models of this unit and they work very well. The older unit had the indicater window on the top of the unit and it was small. You had to open the top of the BioCube to check if the UV light was working. The newer model has a larger window on the side of the unit, large enough that I can peak through the water line window on the side of the BioCube and actuly see the glow from the window showing that the bulb was in good working order.

I ordered a new one, not because the first unit had stopped working but because the 90 degree angle plastic that connects the unit to the discharge port cracked and it was only an extra 20 to get a new unit after the bulb blew. I only gave the unit four stars because of that angle peice didn't have an improved plastic material or better fit so I am hoping it wont crack agian.

I put this in my Biocube 14. Every time I do a water quality check, it's perfect. I have a friend who has the same thing. His bulb went out within the first month for some reason (I think it was operator error). He called the company, and without any issue, they sent him a whole new replacement unit...not just a bulb. This is a great compact effective sterilizer for nano cubes up to 29 gallons. It's crafted specifically for Oceanic/Coralife Biocubes, but includes a universal adapter for other nano cubes. If you have a Biocube, this will hook up to existing pump. If you don't have Biocube, then you need to have a pump. Recommend Cobalt Aquatics MJ1200 which is original Maxijet still built in Italy. Works great and has kept my saltwater crystal clear. The biggest mistake that many people make is to run cheaper sterilizers on 24/7 basis. This will only result in burning out bulbs quickly, but you don't really need round the clock sterilization. I run mine for only 24hrs weekly and is effective. JBJ Automatic Top Off Water Level Controller for Aquarium

A simple way to automate the replacement of evaporated water in the reef aquarium. Using the two level sensors, it monitors the levels in the sump and top-off water container. This made it possible for me to leave on vacation and have a complete novice manage the maintenance of my reef.

One of the sensors in this product did not work right out of the box. Because there are two sensors we used the one sensor set up but risked the pump going dry until the replacement sensor arrived. Reviews on the product page were all excellent. After I had the problem I Googled and found less than stellar reviews and found that this is a common problem. Best product out there for the price. Simple, not a lot to program two options that it). Not too crazy about the way that you set up the floaters but with some tweaking you can secure better with suction cups or even zip tie, but then again I am paranoid and I have never heard of anyone having serious issues with the floaters, oh yeah floaters are the devices that measure the eater level.....forward 1 year, found out that device is not as water proof as it should be.

Pond Pump Max Flow

I purchased the Fish Mate 1500 Submersible Pump model #AN277 about 11 months ago for my pond. Last week the pumped stopped working. When I opened it up to investigate I found the impeller shaft had snapped. I called the manufacturer Ani-mate/Fish Mate (800-725-4333) to get it repaired via the supposed 3 year warranty. They informed me that that type of breakage to their pumps are NORMAL and ONLY the non-moving portion of the motor is covered under their warranty, nothing else!! None of the moving parts are covered!

Ani-mate said that customers should purchase their rebuild kit EVERY year. The rebuild kit for the 1500 gal model costs approx $125. The price of the pump itself was $145. At the end of the warranty period, a Fish Mate pump will cost you almost 3 TIMES the original cost!!!

Beware, do not purchase this product. Ani-mate's (Fish Mate) warranty is a sham! Their pumps seem like a great deal, until you realize they are actually trying to bait you into spending much more of your money after the initial purchase. I am disappointed they do this to honest customers!

I purchased this pump as a package deal with the 16 watt bio/uv fish mate filter. It's a great little pump and you can't beat the price. Pump does not come with a filter pad but you can pick one up at places like Lowes or Home Depot. The inlet reciever on the Fishmate filter is a little bit small if you're running a length(5 to 6 feet or more) on a pitch. You might encounter a flow problem.

I stepped the size of the inlet up by gluing a coupling onto it and chose a hose size that fit over the coupling. This fixed the flow problem I was having. I didn't have a problem with too much flow after I did this, it was perfect. If you're running a length that's less then 5 feet(pump to filter) on a pitch, I'd recommend using the standard inlet that's given.

There'a also a "flow valve" that's included with the pump for a waterfall flow adjustment you can modify to use if needed.

I bought this product in June with the filter to hook up to it, right around algae season. All things considered, this is the most bang for my buck I've ever gotten. My pond water has been crystal clear since I installed this. Not very loud (barely a hum, probably less if you have a deeper pond), and quite powerful, this is one of the best investments I have made for my pond.

I open up the pump assembly (easy) and there's a help line phone number inside the impeller housing! I guess for people like me who lose the paperwork.

I call the number. A human being answers the phone. Tells me I need to service the pump. I order the service/parts kit for twenty bucks.

Takes all of ten minutes to service the pump. I put it in the pond, it works perfectly. This is what I call no BS service. Also, the output is excellent to drive my filter

Petco Check Valve

It does do what i need. Unfortunately it requires quite a bit of pressure to be pushed through. Other than that, i made my own c02 set up with this and it does work fine.

I have 3 of these valves on each of the 3 Betta tanks in my home, they do their job well.. we had a power outage recently due to storm & when i checked on the fish all the valves kept the water from backing up into the Air Pumps! I was buying a new air pump every 4-6 months before because of water backing up into the air pumps & ruining them. No more of that, it's Awesome! You can buy these at your local Petco for about $3-ish, but until they recently put one in my area i had to buy them online. I bought this for my son's gold fish. It's excellent and requires little or no maintenance (change the water of course). All-Glass makes some of the best aquariums on the market. I spent about a year working at a boutique pet store, and All-Glass produced the best products we sold. In that time, I didn't see a single defective product or hear a single customer complaint about All-Glass. I even bought a complete 45-gallon setup (tank, stand, hood and light) when I established my own aquarium.

Yes, All-Glass aquariums cost a bit more than the acrylic tanks you can pick up at Petsmart, but it's worth it. For one thing, glass won't scratch like acrylic will. If you think algae looks bad, wait until your acrylic tank has accumulated a few years of nicks and scratches. The stands are also a bit pricey, but they're sturdy, level and attractive. Keep in mind that fresh water weighs around 7 lbs per gallon (salt water ranges around 10 lbs, depending on salinity), which doesn't even include hardware and gravel. Even a freshwater 5.5 gallon aquarium will weigh over 40 pounds and a 20 gallon tank can weigh anywhere from 150-200 lbs. A sturdy, level stand is an important part of buying an aquarium.

Glass isn't for everyone. It's very dangerous if it gets broken, which is always possible with young kids around. But if you have children old enough to be respectful around their pets, this 5.5 gallon aquarium is a great way to start. It's also an excellent option if you don't have much room/budget, or you're setting up a quarantine tank for your main aquarium. Either way, I highly recommend any All-Glass products.

Please do your research. You can get a tank like this at Petsmart (made of GLASS) for no more than $20, probably less. And with a tank so small, you really shouldn't be that concerned with getting a super high quality/expensive tank. Maybe if you are getting a 55 gallon you should be more concerned. Acrylic and glass have their advantages/disadvantages, and Petsmart actually doesn't carry very many acrylic tanks.

I have been using this to clean my 75 gallon Marine Aquarium for a few months now and it is doing a very good job. It's not even worth my time to return it.

I assumed this had shelves!!! Not worth $50 when you have to spend another $40 for the glass shelves. The screw holes didn't line up and made it a little difficult to assemble.

Ok so the product itself is ok but how about the holes

are off center from the holes on the legs, so I have to go find longer bolts in order to put this thing together. I am not happy about that.

Exotic Environments Gargoyle Hearth Aquarium Ornament

The aquarium ornament is nice, big and pretty. It got here broken but I chose to just glue it and keep it and not wait for a replacement.

Everything else was ready to have the tank all done, didn't want to wait. I called Customer Service and they gave me a credit for next time. I'm ok with that. It is pretty and looks big without taking out too much swimming space. I like it.

This well designed and well-crafted piece is lightweight and a great addition to a large aquarium. The fish really enjoy it too! There is plenty of room to swim through the tunnel and I was delighted to see one of my fish plant a kiss on the cheek of the central figure.

I have this in with a halfmoon betta and six corys in a 20 gallon tank. They like swimming through it and going up the sides.

It is made well and the gold paint in the picture is indeed gold in person. It may be slightly darker in person, but not a lot. Takes up a good amount of space there is still plenty of room for some more items in my tank, but it isn't too small for it either. It would fit well in a 10 or 5 gallon tank as well, though with the 5 it would probably have to be your main piece. Looks nice with plants and dark substrate.

Cat Mate Elite 4 Way Rotary Locking Cat Flap White

This cat door is very good quality. I have two cats and it only took them a couple of days to get used to the door. I think the hardness of the plastic made them uneasy at first, but I just propped it open for two days and then they just figured out how to go through. The lock feature is helpful too in case I don't want them to come outside or if I just wanted to give them one-way access. It is a little louder than the plastic doors when it opens and closes, but it's really not too bad considering the quality of the door.

I love this cat door; but, my cats still aren't using it 2 weeks after installation. It went in easy and fast on a metal door, and it's insulated very well. When I push them through the flap gives smoothly and easily. And I see them looking into the house through the clear plastic flap when they're meowing to come in. But none of them (we have 8) have been brave enough to try it out on their own. Hope springs eternal, however, and I believe some day they'll get the hang of it.

I have the Cat Mate Elite Super Selective Cat Door. Its very similar construction to the Elite Locking Cat door. I did alot of researching before buying and it was a toss up between the Elite Locking Door and the Super Selective Cat Door...decided to go with the Super Selective as we have both indoor and outdoor cats.

If you have indoor and outdoor cats the Super Selective Cat Door is the door you need. I love that I don't have to worry about our indoor cats getting outside or the occasional raccoon/neighbor cats trying to get inside. The control pad is easy to read and very easy to program if you decide to create a program to control your cats in/out privledges.

Easily installed where our old cat flap used to be with a little retro-fitting; had to install 2 extensions to get to the exterior as it was installed in a wall and had to mount the end units directly to the walls as I could not find screws long enough to connect as instructed...a non issue in my opinion.

The only issue is the locking mechanism is a little loud; that is why I rated it 4 stars. The sound from the mechanism actually startled my cat for the first 10+ days after install. Also, the cat has to press on the door/flap to activate the receiving signal before the door will unlock. Took me a few tries to figure out how to operate properly.

It took my cat about 10 days of practicing to really figure out the door and get used to the sound from the locking mechanism, but now she uses it like a pro.

After being trained to sleep walk by my cat in out in out in out..... I finally caved and installed this into my exterior wall. It took about a week for him to use the door but our relationship has grealy improved. I gave this product 3 stars because of two reasons. The door is loud; the magnet clicks and if the cat is too forceful leaving the house the plastic hits plastic and wakes us up. No big deal just saying it could be better. The second issue I have is that you have to purchase 3 extenders for the exterior application. Seriously? at aprox. $13 a pop its kind of a rip off.

Door does what its supposed to do and saved my cats life. I would buy this product again.

This light is 24" long and fits perfectly over my 20 gal. fish tank. The light is a pleasing 'daylight' color and my plants have responded positively to it. The LEDs run cool and are 'instant-on'. I have not used the moonlight feature (which is just a few blue-purple LEDs) that can be switched on separately or together with the main lights. Since I have this light on a timer, I don't bother with manually switching the moonlight lights on and off -I just leave them off.

I think anything deeper than a 20 gal. tank might need a stronger light though, like their AL-H24DS: Finnex RAY II High Output Unibody Ultra Slim LED Fixture 24" Daylight. But this one suits my needs without creating a lot of algae growth. I think in the future, all of my tank lighting will be LEDs.

So this one lasted longer than the second one I got. I had this 24" model mounted on the mounts it comes with and sitting on top of the fuge it is advertised with on Amazon. It lasted less than three months. The plants grew really fast under this light. It's a shame it didn't last very long.

I had ordered a 12" light just before the 24" died. I thought this one was just a fluke. No big deal. I contacted their customer service (the maker of the light) and they never responded. I thought maybe it was the holidays but it has been a month. I have to try and call them tomorrow. Tonight the 12" one started sparking and flickering. Luckily the 12" died fast enough that I could return through Amazon instead of dealing with the manufacturer.

So I have two dead lights sitting on my desk (one headed back to Amazon tomorrow) and I have to go to Home Depot tomorrow to find something to keep my plants from dying. The first fuge (the 24") has already been cleared of plants and I'm only running the 12". I would avoid this light.

Small Victorian Top Bird Cage

This is a great cage for the money. Plenty of room for my cockatiel, she loves it. Extremly easy to clean and side feeder doors make it so you do not have to bother bird. Took under an hour to assemble.

Prevue Hendryx-Clean Life Tall Bird Cage

This cage arrived in a damaged box and was itself damaged. A plastic clip on the base was broken and some of the wires were slightly bent. I couldn't straighten the wires, and I wasn't about to try to repair a new product.

The whole assembly was much flimsier than I anticipated. I WOULD NOT TRUST THIS CAGE to protect our cockatiel from our cat. A cat or dog could easily bend the wires or tip the whole cage to the floor and cause the plastic clips to break. Were that to happen, the whole base would fall right off of the wire unit.

I returned the cage unused. I now realize that I'm not going to find a sturdy cage for under $200. Even our tiny new cockatiel will get a cage worthy of our Amazon parrot.

I used the formulin for my Discus aquarium. I had developed a problem with gill flukes. I noticed the fish breathing very fast and some with inflamed gills. I administered the appropriate dose as prescribed of formulin for 3 days on and 1 day off and again for another 3 days. I administered a follow up dose at day 14 and 15 to kill off any late hatching eggs from the gill flukes. With the daily water changes and the medicine I am confident that I have eliminated the gill fluke problem. The fish are much happier and I am at ease. Great product. Works just as described.

Laguna Spitter Kit

I love the spitter with the two birds, it is fun to look at and different from the majority of spitters out there. The 80 gph pump is not strong enough for it. Water dribbles down the side of the birds and onto the rock I have it sitting on. Ive moved it around and adjusted the pump to no avail. It leaks too much water. No I have to buy a bigger pump for it. I wish they sold the spitter without the pump.

The product was shipped in a timely fashion. And arrived on time. But the pump it self is a piece of crap! It worked for about 24hrs. I pulled it out of the pond. Looked it over and could not find anything wrong. So tapped it on the rocks and it started again. Pumped for about 5hrs and has not worked since. Would not recommend this to any one, not even my enenmy!

Small, lightweight spitter. Dimensions given are accurate, only I never can equate the actual numbers until I see the product. Nice length of hose preconnected. Should be used in a windfree area as it topples over easily.

I receivd what I ordered, I just wish I had read description and detail more closely to see what I was really getting.

it is very cute the only reason i gave it four stars was because the pump is small and doesnt pump as strong as i would have like but i really love it
