Gave these to my puppy, who is about 25 lb and 4.5 mo old. She worked on one for 2 days, got a little bored of it on the 3rd day, but every few days I take it out of its bag and she thinks it's the best thing in the world again and gnaws on it throughout the day. Quiet Flow Filter
However in regards to it's mechanical and chemical filtration performance: this filter has a really powerful pump that moves a huge amount of water and thus it does a fantastic job of pulling floating particles in when they get within 2-3 inches of the intake. On the downside this means the filter inserts (it uses 2 at a time) clog very quickly and the thin cotton material used on the official Aqueon cotton/carbon inserts doesn't hold up well to attempts at cleaning it; therefore these inserts must constantly be replaced.
Thus I found using those official Aqueon inserts gets pretty costly, even ordering them with free shipping on Amazon where they are half the price of a brick and mortar pet store. But as a previous reviewer mentioned using cut-to-fit filter media such as the cotton "Marineland PA0100 Filter Pad" and a seperate bag of carbon greatly reduces the cost of changing the filter media so frequently. I myself prefer to use the cut-to-fit "Deep Blue Professional DB Activated Carbon Pad 18x10" which is made of a tougher, thicker and more densely woven material with carbon bonded directly to it. This material imparts three major advantages in it's use as a filter insert: A) the carbon bonding means every bit of water flowing through the filter insert is getting cleaned chemically as well as mechanically, B)because it's more densely woven the material works as a water polisher by trapping fine as well as course particles, and C) the toughness of the material means that when the inserts get caked with crud you can give them a thorough cleaning and re-use them multiple times without them falling apart.
Since I've begun using these cut-to-fit carbon covered pads as the media inserts in the Aqueon 55/75 it does an amazing, and much more affordable, job of working in conjunction with the canister filter and a 24 watt UV sterilizer to keep the water absolutely crystal clear in my 55 gallon tank which is stocked with 28 full grown Mbuna African Cichlids.
Other things to note about the Aqueon 55/75:
1) The pump is silent but the water itself makes quite a bit of noise as it flows into and through the filtration area. Imagine having the sound of a small but fast flowing stream in your room. Some may find it soothing, while others will find it overly loud and annoying.
2) As was also mentioned in another review; because the pump creates such good suction at the intake the filter really does wind up pulling in food faster than the fish can eat it if it's floating around. I combat this by using fast sinking pellet food dropped well away from the intake.I absolutely love this filter. Most filters are really noisy, and since I have a fish tank in my room, this wasn't an option. I ran into the quietflow for a 20 gallon and was amazed by its results. It's blissfully quiet and does an amazing job at filtering. The additional plastic piece that allows beneficial bacteria to grow fits well and does a great job. I was so pleased with the quietflow that I replaced all my fish tank filters with it and haven't been happier!Flows lots of water quietly. Would recommend to anyone with 50 gal or more. easy to adjust the draw tube.

I have a 75 gal tank and originally bought a Marineland Penguin 350 to get started, which turned out to be REALLY noisy (impeller/motor). Ended up returning it as defective and getting this Aqueon power filter instead. This Aqueon is much better! Motor/impeller are VERY silent, and the water return is also virtually silent (I have the water level up to the lip of the return). I forget what it's called but there is a blue splash piece on the return of this filter that breaks up the water flow just enough that it 1) eliminates the sound of the water returning to the tank and 2) slows the water current a little on the way out which is good if you have some smaller fish or top feeders hanging around.
The filters come with carbon in them, but there's still enough room behind the cartridges in the filter box to place additional media if you want. I've added a couple of small bags with extra carbon and they fit pretty easily.
This filter uses additional hard plastic grids to help bacteria grow. Different than the spinning Biowheel design on the Marineland, but honestly I can't help but think this Aqueon design is going to be much easier to maintain.
The filter comes with an extension tube that is adjustable. You simply slide it up or down. Easy to use.
The only reason I have it 4 stars instead of 5 is that there is some slight (but pleasant) water noise where the water comes INTO the filter. So, technically it's not 100% silent but I think for a filter that pumps 400 gal/hr this is about the best they get. Mine is new so we'll see how it holds up over time.Best filter I've ever purchased. My 55 gal. aquarium was really in need of major cleaning. This filter within one week totally cleaned the water crystal clear. Change the pads everyday for one week if your tank is really bad. After that, normal changes will keep it clean (once or twice a month). I am so glad I bought this item!

Tetra Half Moon Bubbler, 3-Gallon
Now perhaps these cracks were due to mishandling, but that asidethe plastic is pretty thin and appears brittle (particularly the lid), and this will not take much trama before cracking. Keep this in mind if you plan on moving it around from time to time. I also inspected the 3 gallon cube by the same companythe lid was made of the same stuff but the tank itself seemed to be thicker plastic. That tank has white overhead LEDs instead of the colors and bubbles, and the shape is a cube (obviously) and not as tall or as narrow as this 'half moon' shape. It was a toss up, but I went with the half moon for the colors my daughter wanted and shape.
Everything in the box seemed to be fine upon first set up, although everything seems on the 'cheap' side. I agree with the other reviewer... the most annoying thing is the color lights/bubbler unit wants to float even after weighting with gravel/stones. It took some manuevering to stabilize that component. The good thing is that the bubbler/filter speeds are quite adjustable by dials that control the air coming from the air pump, which is good given that Bettas don't like a lot of water movement.
Once setup it looks pretty nice (and looks nicer if you have fish that will tolerate the bubbler on higher settings as this makes the tank more colorful). Hopefully it lasts. This tank is amazing! My half moon Betta fish loves his mansion, and has been swimming all over his new crib for 3 weeks now. Plenty of space for him to swim. Extremely easy set up. The tank is a perfect half cylinder shape that makes your Betta fish easy to view from all angles. I highly recommend purchasing a tank heater because the tank is 3gallons the temperature would be best regulated by a heater. The bubbler also provides another toy for my fish to swim through he loves it. Of course the colors are BEAUTIFUL!! the subtle sound of the filter with the bubbler and the colors provides a very soothing environment and conversation piece. At night the lights in the tank project a flowing color changing image on my ceiling. This product is perfect. CAUTION! follow the instructions for water changes to a science, if you add too little or too much water when cleaning the tank the nitrogen cycle occurring already in the tank water will get messed up, causing your tank to become murky, and could rot your fish's fins. Follow the easy instructions and you should be fine though.

I purchased two of these aquariums for two betta fish my children own. I use only reverse osmosis water along with Nutrafin Betta Plus and Betta Bowl plus when out of the Nutrafin. This uses the Small filter cartridge.I love that you can adjust the flow of the water coming out of the filter. You can also adjust the air bubbler. There are two valves for each of the tubes. I run both on low for the Betta's well being. I still need to get a mini heater, though. This kit is a great introductory kit for anyone wanting a betta fish.
The betta fish swim alot more in this 3 gallon aquarium than in the Marina .5 gallon tank. I added live plants and bright gravel. We also added a colorful marine paper background, purchased from a local pet store, to give a very beautiful view, instead of just looking straight through it.
The LED lights are beautiful to look at. At first, submerge, entirely, the LED saucer-type device completely under gravel and let the air bubbles blow at medium rate. After two hours, carefully remove the gravel to reveal the LED lights. Otherwise, the LED saucer-type device will just want to keep flying up to the surface. I guess it needs air to be blown into it for a few hours to get settled. I unplug the LED lights at night so the fish can sleep. The air bubbler is still plugged in. The filter has its' own AC adaptor as well. I'm hoping that with a 15-20% water change every week I will only need to change the filter every three weeks. With baby bettas use betta flake food; with large, adult bettas use betta pellets. The flow of the water from the filter does not throw either type of food violently all over the surface.
I really think that using reverse osmosis water (purchased for $1.50 [for 5 gallons] at a water kiosk close to the grocery store) contributes to the success of keeping the fish healthy, as well.
I purchased my aquariums at a local discount retailer for ten dollars less than on Amazon.I purchased this tank for my little betta who was too big for his 1 gallon, non filtered tank. The first time I ordered the Tetra Half Moon Bubbler, the tank was cracked, but Amazon sent another within two days (so it's a good idea to inspect this as soon as you get it). It's really beautiful when it's all lit up, I just wish the 'bubbler' itself would stay in place! Piling gravel on top of it helps a little bit, but if you try to move the tank or lift the lid off, the 'bubbler' comes loose again and floats to the top. A suction cup on the bottom would've been a great idea, but alas, Tetra hasn't thought of that yet.I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this aquarium and filter set. I have had tanks all my life, and this one was a snap to set up. My one quibble with it is the colored light bubbler, however. Although the light it projects is really nice (and it makes the room look pretty at night), the design is a little awkward with the cord coming out of one side. As a result, the bubbler refuses to stay buried, no matter how much gravel I heap onto the edges. Otherwise, a very good product.

The bare minimum needed from a hang on back filter is to have water go in through the intake, pass through the filtration media, and return to the tank at the output. This filter gets that aspect of the job done. However, there aren't many other reasons to purchase the Whisper PF10 over other hang on back filters in the same price range. After a few months of use, several of my filters became loud, and required periodic adjusting to get water to come out of the intended outflow area (water sometimes comes out of the region above the intake tube like other reviewers have pointed out). One of my Whisper PF10 filters even started to leak at its base recently. Unless you can get this filter dirt cheap, I would NOT recommend buying it.-TBM

I've had the filter for about 4 months now, and it seems to filter the water nicely. The water flow is too strong, however, which forces food flakes into the tank before the fish have a chance to eat from the top. Small fish also have to fight the flow if they are not careful.I was having issues with it at first with it not sucking up the eater but when i filled it up with water myself it worked great!Monday, March 10, 2014

Everything else was ready to have the tank all done, didn't want to wait. I called Customer Service and they gave me a credit for next time. I'm ok with that. It is pretty and looks big without taking out too much swimming space. I like it.This well designed and well-crafted piece is lightweight and a great addition to a large aquarium. The fish really enjoy it too! There is plenty of room to swim through the tunnel and I was delighted to see one of my fish plant a kiss on the cheek of the central figure.

I have this in with a halfmoon betta and six corys in a 20 gallon tank. They like swimming through it and going up the sides. It is made well and the gold paint in the picture is indeed gold in person. It may be slightly darker in person, but not a lot. Takes up a good amount of space there is still plenty of room for some more items in my tank, but it isn't too small for it either. It would fit well in a 10 or 5 gallon tank as well, though with the 5 it would probably have to be your main piece. Looks nice with plants and dark substrate.

K&H 8001 Thermo-Pond 3.0 Floating Pond 100-Watt De-Icer
Buy K&H 8001 Thermo-Pond 3.0 Floating Pond 100-Watt De-Icer Now
Overall I like the Thermopond and I'm going to try another one. It worked great for 3.5 years and has a long power cord. The company does honor their warranty and has fast turn around. The current temp is +5F so I need to do something fast. The modes of failure described elsewhere do seem to be common I've experienced both myself. From just failing to turn on to taking on water and sinking. When it it works it works great.I purchased my first one back in 2005 and it worked fine the first year, but the next year it didn't even turn on. The company quickly and without hassle sent me a replacement. The second unit had been working like a charm since 2006... It started working fine this season and then around Christmas 2009 the GFCI popped. I went out and noticed that the thermopond was listing to one side and semi-submerged. It was full of water and the plastic on the underside was deformed and puffed out.
I live in northern Vermont. Thermopond has kept a hole all winter no matter what the temp is (-10F a few years ago). The ice depth was ~10 inches last year and I could see down through the thermopond to the bottom of the pond. I pull it up to check on the fish and they swim over to see me through the hole. I also have a small winter pump (650gph) running as a homemade bubbler. The pump keeps a hole in the ice down to +15F (lower when there's a lot of snow holding the ground temp in). The two manage to keep a very large (25%) opening when the temps are in the upper 20's and mid-30's. My pond is about 2000 gals (3100gph summer pump). I also put out a whip a few years ago to hold the cord up out of the water and keep the thermopond from drifting around in the wind.
Thermopond works, just be prepared to buy a new one every 3 or 4 years ($14 per year). Weigh that with a lower electric bill and this does seem to be a good deal. I'm hoping they've improved the design since I last bought it.

I have a 220 gallon backyard pond, and live in Chicago. I used to use pumps to agitate the water and keep an open spot that way, but the small size pumps I used were not all that durable. I bought this de-icer for less then the price of a 300 GPH pump. I did read all the reviews, and some said the de-icer was not as durable as it should be, but most of those reviews were from a couple years back so I am thinking they have improved it.This de-icer has maintained a small opening in the ice all Winter. The temperature has dropped down to single digits for brief periods as well as some spells in the teens.
This product meets my needs quite well. Next Winter I will buy another one and save it as a back up de-icer and consider it insurance.

I use this in my outdoor fish pond and it really works to keep the algae at bay. If you have a lot of algae to start with, I recommend getting rid of as much of it as possible before using this product because it will definitely kill the algae, but you will have to clean whatever filtering system several times in order for it to be able to clear the water.Want API Algae Destroyer Advanced, 8-Ounce Discount?
It got to the point where I was desperate to rid my tank of algae. I have a 25 gallon setup, co2, canister filter, strong LED lights, well established (over 2 years), but always battled algae. I killed the blue green algae with Erythromycin. I eliminated the brown diatom algae with regular pruning and using Seachem PhosGuard in my canister filter off and on. The only thing that remained was a superfluous amount of green brush algae. Each week, I would scrub the glass and desperately try to rid it from every plant, but it kept coming back. I tried adjusting my CO2 (more) and lighting schedule (less) as best as possible, but it wasn't going anywhere. My stats were near perfect near 0 phosphates, 0 nitrate/nitrite, 0 ammonia, 0 pH. My water changes were weekly. My filter media was new (charcoal, purigen, and polishing/pond pads) with a well seasoned bunch of ceramic media at the top.At first, I thought I was battling black beard algae and due to this I removed all my plants to wash them in a 1:5 diluted solution of Seachem Flourish Excel ("Glut") for 10 minutes. This *did* fix the problem, temporarily, but it also nearly killed my java moss and most of my HC. After a week, however, the green brush algae was back in full force. I was losing hope.
I learned about this product after reading this webpage, which I highly recommend if you are trying to get rid of algae:
The first step to battling algae is to know your enemy. I read more about the uses of Simazine for battling green brush algae and that it was an active ingredient in API's Algae Destroyer. I then read all the reviews of Algae Destroyer and learned this product had caused some very negative experiences! I decided to buy it even though I knew the risks. I was confident in the research that Simazine was the fix and this product had it. What wasn't clear was the proper dosage.
The dosage on the bottle recommends 14 drops per 10 US Gallons. I decided to start with 14, which is less than half the recommended dosage. It seems most people reviewing this product have either not read the instructions fully and dosed too much, or perhaps the proper dosage was too much stress on their fish. Or, perhaps the proper dosage DID kill the algae, but the bacteria which then break down the dead algae consumed all the O2 in the water which could be attributed to poor filtration? In any case, I'd recommend starting with a low dose, monitor closely, and then increase it slowly.
After 24 hours with a half dose, I was already seeing some of the green brush algae particularly on the leaves near the top of the tank had turned a silver/gray color indicating it had died. None of the plants, fish, or nerite snails seemed to have noticed! I cleaned the tank glass, tubes, filter media, and did a partial water change. I then proceeded to continue dosing 20 drops a day (directly into the water stream from the filter), once a day for the next 3 days. I'm happy to say the glass has remained 99% algae free (little bit at the bottom of the tank might have forgotten to clean it the first time). The leaves are MUCH better most of them still have gray hairs on them, but the vast majority have lost all green brush algae. I plan to wait a few days to let the tank consume all this dead algae and continue again with another round next week. While the story isn't complete yet, I feel confident enough to say I'd fully recommend this product if you know what algae you are battling and you start with a reduced dosing schedule.

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Pro Iiie Filter Pad Pack (1 Blue/4 White)
In most cases these are perfect for the Pro 3 linebut would be far too small for the XL and 2080 both of which I have as well. In all cases the pads remove debris and keep your water sparkling clear. They can be cleaned in a bucket of tank water so as not to destroy the colonized nitrifying bacteria and then used again but it's a good idea to replace the pads every 6-12 months depending upon the fish you keep and your filtration.

However, it is suitable for fresh water tank. This reminds me of light bright from the 80's. It is not bright at all. My 1 buld LED flashlight is much brighter. I was going to use it for FOWLR tank but the light will not even penetrate 3" into the water. This is in no way an aquarium light as advertised. biOrb 12 Volt Intelligent Light
The light itself is much thinner than the included light and has a number or programmable options...I sometimes use it as a simple reminder to go to bed myself when I see the lights dim =)We purchased a biOrb at the start of the year, and simply enjoy the heck out of it. One of the minor issues I had on was the standard light that comes with kit had to be manually turned off and on each morning and night. We also didn't like to leave the light on when we left the house, as it got quite hot, the new LED light takes away the need to do all of this. The fish appear to be quite happy and the different LED's throughout the cycle seem to work well. (no negative impact on the fish).
Although a tad expensive I would recommend this as an upgrade to your biOrb in a heartbeat.
Buy biOrb 12 Volt Intelligent Light Now
The unit is very slim and is a much better light than the standard bulky halogen which takes up space inside the tank. Surprisingly very bright and clear! The sunrise/sunset feature is a little silly though. Biorb claims that it's like a natural sunrise/sunset for the fish but it's not really that gradual of a process. In the morning it goes from one blue moonlight bulb to all three of the white daylight LEDs lighting up at once, although they are slightly dimmed when they light up. I doubt fish will really think that it's a real sunrise.
I was also expecting that there would be some lighting color to this unit--natural yellows and oranges for sunrises/sunsets and gradual gradients throughout the day to stimulate the true natural sun cycle. But I guess that is a little too much to ask for in a fish tank light.I ordered this light as my existing one stopped working. Its definitely a step up from the "Standard" light as it is much brighter. It actually leaves "Glitter Lines" on the floor, its that bright. It might even make a good "Reef light" due to this fact but I am uncertain if the light spectrum is strong enough for some corals. You are able to program the unit so that you can "custom" the amount of daylight with nite / moon light. The transformer is not included. I only gave it 4 stars as I thought it was overpriced. As someone mentioned earlier, this will fit into the opening for the 4 gal. (Baby) BiOrb it just won't fit the top lid ring. The light is really a lot better than the standard bulb and while it's expensive, I feel it was worth it. I'm using this on the Baby BiOrb and the tank looks fine without the top ring; but I'm going to take the other reviewer's suggestion and use a Dremel tool and widen the hole to make it fit into the plastic ring shouldn't be a big deal. If you have a Baby BiOrb, I'd recommend getting the light.

Kritter Keeper Round Fish Home
However I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the plastic and the size of the tank itself. It's a very tough strong air tight lid that snaps in a very secure fashion. It's built to be very durable and so far my fish is loving it.
The only bummer is that the lid doesn't leave space for a heater or filter. You have to snip at the plastic mesh on the top to create a hole for your chords to go through, hence why I removed a star. Otherwise I'm really liking it so far. Unique shape, attractive and well built product.I read the measurements, but was still disappointed by its size. I was under the impression that it would be a little less round.

" The small size is an ideal home for Betta Splendens."No, it's not. At all. Do some research before buying a betta (or any fish) and putting it in this death trap. Use it for water changes, maybe, but not as a permanent home! This is a horrible home for a Betta. They need at least a 2.5gal or if you want small a 1.5 if you plan to change the water every day. You need to do research before purchasing any animal. A Betta would die fairly quickly in this home, especially if the water wasn't changed at least daily. The ammonia would build up and kill the fish. DO NOT BUY. Good for water changes though if you are cleaning the main tank and need somewhere to put your Betta.

This wasn't too much of a problem since there were plenty of leafy parts left.
Also the grass looks really weird with the white base out of the box, but it looks a lot better in the tank when covered with sand/gravel and the grass is sticking out.
The excess glue was easy enough to remove.
Just be careful when handling this product, b/c the glue comes apart pretty easily.
