Zilla 11758 Terrarium Liner, 50-Gallon, Green
I vacuum this on a regular basis and it looks great. Beardies nails do not get stuck in the carpet. I haven't placed it in the washer machine yet, so I'm not sure how well it will look afterwards.
It was easy to measure and cut with a scissor before being placed in my tank and it lies flat. Very happy with it for the price and it looks good.

I have used Zilla terrarium liners exclusively for our box turtle ever since our vet advised me so. I had complained about the stinky mess of cleaning up substrate products, not to mention the unexpected and unwelcome "pest-guests" that I sometimes found in them (even after freezing the unopened product for several days!). You can't beat these liners. They're easy to clean, especially in the summer when I just use a garden hose to clean them. I suppose the turtle misses digging in substrate as he used to do. But the pluses for me outweigh his love of digging.Want Zilla 11758 Terrarium Liner, 50-Gallon, Green Discount?
This product is manufactured to fit with Zilla terrariums. I had to snip about 5/8 of an inch off the length of our carpet, but after that it covered the floor edge to edge perfectly in our 40 gallon unit. We placed our Ball Python back in the cage after a cleaning and installing this carpet, and he explored a bit but didn't seem to find a problem with the carpet. In fact he has settled into his normal routines already. So our guy seems comfortable with it, which makes us happy. Heat also seems to penetrate carpet well, which surprised me considering this is made of recycled plastic materials. I thought I would have to cut a chunk out over the heated portion of the tank, but I won't have to. It dampens the heat from under tank heating pads just enough to make it feel more natural without severely stifling it. Our tank is also staying 2-3 degrees warmer prior to installation, so this carpet provides enough R value to completely make up for the slight reduction in heat penetration from the heater, and actually helps the heater work more efficiently. It sure is nice to replace the messy substrate we were using with something cleaner and washable. I recommend for anyone with a snake housed in a Zilla Terrarium.Wednesday, April 9, 2014
Tetra 26316 Whisper Filter 10, 5-10-Gallon
Buy Tetra 26316 Whisper Filter 10, 5-10-Gallon Now
The bare minimum needed from a hang on back filter is to have water go in through the intake, pass through the filtration media, and return to the tank at the output. This filter gets that aspect of the job done. However, there aren't many other reasons to purchase the Whisper PF10 over other hang on back filters in the same price range. After a few months of use, several of my filters became loud, and required periodic adjusting to get water to come out of the intended outflow area (water sometimes comes out of the region above the intake tube like other reviewers have pointed out). One of my Whisper PF10 filters even started to leak at its base recently. Unless you can get this filter dirt cheap, I would NOT recommend buying it.-TBM

I've had the filter for about 4 months now, and it seems to filter the water nicely. The water flow is too strong, however, which forces food flakes into the tank before the fish have a chance to eat from the top. Small fish also have to fight the flow if they are not careful.I was having issues with it at first with it not sucking up the eater but when i filled it up with water myself it worked great!Monday, April 7, 2014

Tetra Aquatic Reptile Heater, 100 Watt
Secondly, I have had great success with ours...EXCEPT (my OWN fault!)....when changing my turtles water, somehow my son plugged in the heater when the heater was not completely submerged. Huge problem in that it fizzled, sparked and popped umm not good. It does say it in the directions, but they don't really ever say what will happen if you plug it in early. Of course, common sense should dictate, but last night it did not. I spent hours cleaning out the new tank AGAIN and now I am back to buy another!
The plastic housing is great! Only once has my monster of a red eared slider been able to open it. She does manage to knock it loose once in awhile though! It's all good!!
Overall...I would buy again. I am buying again. I would recommend this for others as well! This heater works well for my 11 year old eastern painted turtle. I have her housed in a 40 gallon tank on a window sill facing East (she likes to watch the sun rise). What is important to understand about reptiles is that they thrive on sunlight as their primary source of heat, and any reptile in captivity should have access to real sunlight and intense artificial light for a substantial amount of time every day. A lamp that emits UVA and UVB rays should be the primary source of heat in your reptile's habitat, and any other heat source, such as an aquatic heater for a turtle, should only be a secondary source of heat.
I use the water heater in the winter months to keep the water in my turtle's tank from getting too cold at night, once I have turned off her heat lamp. I chose this particular heater over traditional aquarium heaters because it is housed in a plastic cage, and my turtle is very destructive. I have been using the heater since November and she hasn't managed to take it apart yet!

We recently received our Tetra Aquatic Reptile Heater, rated at 100watts and it has been great. Unit is built solid, has powerful suction cups and the option of routing the cord in 3 directions off one end. It says it is rated up to a 30 gallon tank, we have one that is 38 gallons (nearly full) for our 6" male Red Eared Slider turtle. He has checked it out, rested on it used it as platform etc and it hasn't budged or broken. The water stays at a constant 74 to 76 degrees. Our local pet shop charges $75.00 for a glass, unprotected heater of 75 watts. This unit was $16.99, protected and more powerful. Standard shipping had it at our door in Alaska in 5 days.Read Best Reviews of Tetra Aquatic Reptile Heater, 100 Watt Here

It worked for 3 weeks, then just stopped. I called the TetraFauna people to ask for a refund and the guy told me that I needed to buy a bigger heaterit is not strong enough for a 30 gallon tank unless your room temp is 72F. So this only heats the water from 72F room temp to 78F. 6 degrees is all shes got. After that it just dies, apparantly.I've read other reviews off of amazon and this has horrible reviews-look elsewhere for a good tank heater.

Finnex Digital Temperature Control Glass Heater, 300-Watt
The cord is round and flexible un-like a lot of submersible cords but it's only 5-6ft long. Since my plug is directly behind the tank, this is just perfect and still leaves a nice safety loop hang for me. The heater itself is about 15 or 16 inches long (I put a ruler on the outside of the tank an made an estimate) and the bottom is covered with a rubber cage, which again was fortunate since I had no gravel and the suction cups eventually lost their hold... or I may not have bothered w/ them too much b/c I just put the heater in a vertical position to begin with. Knowing how I am, I probably read EVERY single word on the directions...twice, and followed instructions precisely on how to set it up. When I first set it up during our unusually warm winter, I would notice the LCD temp. reading drop to 75 and shortly after I would see the orange light come on telling me it was heating, and back to my set temp. of 76 it would go, in other words, it worked perfectly! It's mid Sept. now, my poor fish are still living in the 46g b/c I have not had the time to build the rock wall for my other tank yet, but honestly, I don't think I have seen the temp. reading change from 76 degrees since this spring. I've double checked the temp. with a reliable digital thermometer throughout the year and they both read 76 degrees. Really the only con so far has been the suction cups, including the one on the probe, certainly not a deal breaker. Hopefully it will continue to do well this winter and maybe I'll be able to move it to the 75g and report back. I have 3 other tanks that could use a new heater since all of them heat the the water to 80 or so degrees even though the dial is as low as it can go, 3 different brands too.
UPDATE: Feb. 2013, the heater is no longer heating, just a giant thermometer now. I've never had a heater stop heating, usually they start over heating and cook the fish so even though it no longer works, at least it didn't kill my fish. The visible thermometer let me know the water was too cold & something wasn't right. I've bought some pretty cheap heaters in the past but they all lasted longer than a year. It seemed like a really well built heater but just didn't last unfortunately. I got a Fluval E around the same time for a different tank and that's been doing great so far so may try that one again.I actually liked the overall design of this heater and the fact that it had the LED display on the unit itself. So, I went ahead and purchased it. It took less than 3 weeks for it to fail miserably. It switched on to heat mode and never shut off! Tried unplugging it, dialing down the temperature, and even letting it sit for a while, all to no avail. I have a pretty hefty investment in my tank and I got lucky in that I was able to catch the problem before it killed all of my fish. Don't want a replacement for it. Not interested in trading junk for junk. Pulled it out and bought a Fluval. Will try to get my money back. If you are reading this, think hard and long before wasting your money and jeopardizing your investment on this "product". Lesson learned here... READ THE REVIEWS before you invest your hard earned money!

I initially loved this heater because of the LEDs & being able to know the temp from across the room, so much that I bought 3 over a 2 month period. Now I'm severely regretting it because the LED readout is going out on the oldest one. It is set for 84 degrees (discus tank) and reads as if it was set for 6u.I will not buy another Finnex product & refuse to pay the shipping for a replacement that may start going out in 3 months too. I just bought 3 Eheim Jager heaters to replace them & will buy a separate LED thermometer to use in unison with the "classic" glass thermometer I have in each tank.

I just bought this heater and no matter what we try, it resets to 83. I emailed the company and they were not helpful at all. This is a poor product with poor customer service.Want Finnex Digital Temperature Control Glass Heater, 300-Watt Discount?
Heater looks great, nice digital display. Heated my 48 degree water yo 75 in one day. Next day it was 81 and the display was out. Thinking it might have to reset I unplugged it and tried again the next day. The display did not come on when I hit the thermostat button. Instead there were sparks and arcs inside the glass tube and then it exploded. The glass cracked and my house filled with acrid smoke and ozone. Could be just a fluke and I would have tried another one but that wasn't an option, credit my card only.Thursday, December 12, 2013

Works well. The filter itself has become not useful for the purpose. And the foams seem to go out pretty fast. Just wished they lasted a little longer. Probably gonna look into buying a new filter for my water turtleRead Best Reviews of Fluval 4 Plus Foam Insert, 4-Pack Here
I find that these work better if replaced after every tank cleaning. (I have a turtle, and because the filter is so powerful, I wind up cleaning his tank maybe once a month.) So far I've reused the sponges twice, and I notice that the tank gets dirtier sooner. So yeah, definitely replace these and they do a spectacular job!Want Fluval 4 Plus Foam Insert, 4-Pack Discount?
I've used several filtration units for my turtle tank and the Fluval Plus4 is definitely the best so far. The foam pads can be used (if cleaned regularly)for a little over two months and will with a little chemical aid keep the water smelling mostly like water. When supplemented by a water polishing(poly) or carbon pad, the maintenance level rises but the water clarity improves very much. Short of a long sand and gravel runoff and recirculating into a very big tank, nothing has kept my turtles' water as clean with bi-weekly or longer gaps between filter washing.(weekly rinsing is the recommended interval for maximum efficiency and pump life. But, who has the time?)The filters will clog completely if ignored too long, but if your aquatic reptiles are IN your home, you probably already know that they will motivate you to clean the filter some time before the plus4 will clog completely. I cannot say that about any of the other brands of filter products I have used.

Coralife 77071 6X Turbo Twist UV Sterilizer
Buy Coralife 77071 6X Turbo Twist UV Sterilizer Now
I have owned and used the turbo-twist 6x UV pond sterilizer for 6 months. I've had a lot of difficulty with it, and today it sprang its final leak and is going into the trash. The basic problem is poor quality materials, aggravated by inadequate engineering. Here's what happened:I used this for a 130gal indoor fishtank. It was mounted under the tank in an equipment enclosure, so any leak potentially can drain the tank through siphoning, even with the pump off. I initially had it mounted in a horizontal position, inline with a 400gal/hour canister filter.
On first install I noticed that the hose fittings are not good: they are supposed to seal the hose by screwing a ring outwards against the hose, squeezing it over a bulge (tang) on the male fitting. However, the ring isn't long enough to achieve this purpose, which is odd. I used high quality Eheim hose and the ring didn't even touch the hose before coming off the threads. Ok fine, I added my own hose clamps and moved on. Next the mounting brackets broke, like almost immediately. They, and most of the rest of the unit, are made of a flimsy and brittle black plastic that breaks under a small amount of stress. The design of the mounting brackets is such that this stress is very likely to occur except possibly under some ideal circumstances (which don't exist in a small under tank space). I jury-rigged my own mounting and kept going.
Within a few weeks the unit had stopped working (as monitored by the indicator light, and the resurgence of algae in the tank). After some investigation I discovered that the UV bulb was not seated properly in the socket. I spent a lot of time and effort working on this, trying to find better ways of seating the bulb, but the metal clip that's supposed to hold it in is...flimsy and weak! Eventually I changed to a vertical mounting position with the socket on the bottom: this is not a manufacturer recommended position, but it's the only way the bulb would stay seated and keep electrical contact. It still went out ocsassionally if it got bumped while cleaning the filters, and then I needed to jiggle it gently to get it to light again.
Today the entire unit started to leak rapidly, which I discovered when a puddle began spreading from under the tank stand. On investigation, the body seal had failed. As I was examining the unit, gently trying to tighten it to reseal, the entire body split: the black plastic housing appears to be even weaker and more brittle now than when installed, maybe due to UV exposure?
I was initially happy that this unit did indeed kill algae, but it caused me a lot of frustration and turned out to be highly unsatisfactory. I recommend avoiding all models in this line.

I HAVE A 240 GALLON FISH TANK THAT I HAVE HAD FOR OVER 20 YEARS. I HAVE FISH LIVE IN THIS TANK MUCH!!!! LONGER THAN ANYONE I KNOW. I HAVE HAD MY TANK UP AND RUNNING WHEN MY STERILIZERS WERE OUT OF COMMISSION AND I SEE A DRASTIC DIFFERENCE IN THE QUALITY OF THE WATER AND THE QUALITY OF THE FISH. I THINK THIS IS A BIT ON THE EXPENSIVE SIDE BUT A GOOD PRODUCT.I tried all sorts of chemicals to clear up the green water in my tank (72 gallons), but none of them worked. So I bought this and a day later everything was crystal clear. Wonderful product.
