Zoo Med Stainless Steel Feeding Tongs, 10-Inch

Zoo Med Stainless Steel Feeding Tongs, 10-Inchi have no small creatures but these tongs are great for a lot of other uses...cleaning articles dropped in drains, finding and removing small items from odd spaces and anytime you need help getting stuff from crevices ie dropped pills, beads, etc...i even used it to remove some stuck paper in my printer...i bought some as gifts for some of my senior citizen friends so useful!!!

I use these to target feed some creatures in my pico tank. After a week of use they show signs of rust. Now I'm having to look into painting or powder coating them. Other than that they work great.

My in-laws just closed on a house in the outlying areas of the Phoenix metropolitan area and I got these for them to help them remove the scorpions that they find hanging out in their home or in the backyard. Sure you can just step on a scorpion, but what it it's on the wall or the ceiling? These are great and they are very thankful that I got them for them.

Bought these to help my girlfriend and kids to hand feed crickets to the turtles and lizards. Worked like a charm. No touching the crickets and no need to get too close to the turtles/lizards.

The tongs are pretty great, our baby corn snake snapped up his pinkie in an instant. Great idea so I don't have to use kitchen tongs then sterilize them. I have ran it through the dishwasher twice though, and it is showing signs of rust at the top. Otherwise, I would have given it five stars.

Reef Care NO3:PO4-X Nitrate and Phosphate Reducer - 16.9 oz.

Reef Care NO3:PO4-X Nitrate and Phosphate Reducer - 16.9 oz.Read the reviews and thats why got this product, had hi nitrate in my 60 gal cube saltwater tank.

I also read the instructions, were found a bit confusing, I dropped 3 ml pretty close to the powerhead to diffuse the solution. But did nothing with the nitrate levels.

The second day dropped 10 ml.(11am) and left for work... Came home around 5 pm and all the fishes were DEAD. 2 clowfishes, a blue and yellow tang, a goby and 3 cleaner shrimps... :( took a water sample and went with my LFS, he tested and said the amonia levels were 0, nitrite levels were extremely HIGH and nitrate levels were still high, but because the nitrite is very toxic, that was the cause of the dead.

Changed 50% of the water and waited a week to get a new fish. Now that I got everything again, I wont put that solution again in my tank.

I know, you might say, that is because might had put a lot on it, but the instructions were not clean at all.

So be careful

I gave this 5 stars as it far exceeded my expectations.

Instructions are easy to understand, important is to know your tanks water volume, including sump.

I started to see algae deminism within a few days and completely gone within a week.

Combine this with a different feeding regiment and your tank looks like the ones in the magazines.

The process is biological, not chemical, something I liked too.

Buy Reef Care NO3:PO4-X Nitrate and Phosphate Reducer - 16.9 oz. Now

After a long battle to reduce organic waste that was feeding algae blooms of all sorts on my reef aquarium I found this amazing product, within days my nitrates came down to 0 ppm! Algae is gone now and my corals are looking simply beautiful. The product should me used in conjunction with Reef Energy A and Reef Energy B to provide nourishment for your corals and a good efficient skimmer. In my case I started with the recommended dose but since then I have come down to 1/4 and still I think it's more than enough. My advice is to start slow, 1/4 for a week and then measure your nitrates , adjust your dose accordingly in small weekly increments, reefs don't react nicely to sudden changes!

Exotic Environments Temple Ruins & Steps Aquarium Ornament, 4-1/2-Inch by 5-Inch by 8-1/2-Inch

Exotic Environments Temple Ruins & Steps Aquarium Ornament, 4-1/2-Inch by 5-Inch by 8-1/2-InchIt's a cool looking ornament... and really looks excellent in my 5 gallon tank. Buyer beware there is a sizable hole in the back and the underside is hollow, so there is a cave. The hole is jagged so I'm afraid it's going to tear my betta's fins, but it's easy enough to fill in with gravel and the rest of the edges don't seem to hurt my him.

The fish seem to like it. looks ok in a 55. lil short tho, but I want to give fish room up top to swim. would get another.

Nutrafin Betta Plus, 4 Ounces

Nutrafin Betta Plus, 4 OuncesMy betta is a happy boy this water conditioner is great. I bought it to replace a different conditioner and he has made bubble nest after bubble nest once I started putting this in the water.

For those of you who are new to betta care (or who think it is okay to keep them in a goldfish bowl), please remember that, although these are hardy fish, they are healthiest and happiest in at least 5 gallons of water (properly conditioned with something like this Nutrafin product) that is heated to around 78 degrees and is cleaned regularly (a 50% water change every week or so is great).

This is the absolute best water softener for my bettas!!!! I have two betas; one male, and one female. They each have a five gallon aquarium, and I change their water every five days. This water conditioner is by far the best one for them. We have very hard, well water here on Camp Pendleton, and when our local store ran out of this I tried another brand. My poor fish got very sick. I had to do two rounds of serious antibiotics to clear them up, and I was very worried for them. This brought them back with the antibiotics, and water changes every three days. They truly are the healthiest with this, and it has the almond leaf extract in it, which bettas need! I cannot say enough about this product. I cannot find this larger size in my local store, just the smaller one, and with two five gallons, every five days, I go through a lot of it! My local store also is almost always out of it. It flies off the shelf! I love that Amazon carries this bigger size, thank you!!!!

Buy Nutrafin Betta Plus, 4 Ounces Now

My betta tank only stayed clean for 2 days after using this product. I got a slime on the sides of it that the other product didn't leave behind. Not sure what I did wrong???

Read Best Reviews of Nutrafin Betta Plus, 4 Ounces Here

This product is a reliable and safe conditioner for betta fish that provides a bit of tropical almond leaf extract (often used in Thailand by betta breeders). The extract contains tannins, which in the bettas' natural environment leach into freshwater from fallen leaves, helping adjust the quality and PH of the water to the bettas' advantage, especially helping to promote male bubble nesting. The quantities in this formulation are very small, however, so do not purchase this just for the almond leaf extract. (You can purchase actual imported tropical almond leaves for bettas online at fish supply stores and Amazon). However, if you want a good water conditioner for a small number of bettas that is formulated for their needs, this is it! If you have many fish, then you may want a product that comes in a larger size.

Como Purple White Underwater Plastic Grass Plants Decor for Fish Tank

Como Purple White Underwater Plastic Grass Plants Decor for Fish TankIt's not at all natural looking, but since I have 3 tanks, they each have a different theme. This decoration went into my Spongebob themed tank with my baby mollies. It adds a nice pop of color that is very characteristic of spongebob. I think it looks nice in my "fun" tank, but I definitely would not have put it in my natural tank.

Lifegard Aquatics Digital Temp Alert

Lifegard Aquatics Digital Temp AlertI purchased this item from an online pet store. I liked the fact that it is a good size and it is easy to read. However, it only worked for a year. The unit continuously malfunctioned even after installing new batteries figuring that would have been the problem. Unfortunately it wasn't. It kept saying it was over 100 degrees in the tank. My fish would have been like scrambled eggs in my tank if that were true. Luckily I had a portable PH/thermometer handy to double check for accuracy. I had to order a completely different thermometer. I don't normally write bad reviews on products, but I wanted to let you know so you don't make the same mistake. If you are looking at a digital thermometer, then I would recommend one made by Coralife. It is small, but works great.

This is great while it works. In my case it lasted about two years. These thermometers are invaluable when setting up a tank and setting heaters. They will eventually start reading high, but they are worth the price.

Buy Lifegard Aquatics Digital Temp Alert Now

Tough to rate as it seems to be accurate enough but that is not the end of the story.

The device display is quite over sized at approximately 4"x4", which for many will be a benefit as the display digit readout numbers are over 1" tall. But with the logo in pink and bold white thick type, it takes on a toy-like quality and looks cheap....which it's not. That said, that's all about personal preference.

My problem is more about the cord length on the probe. At 39", far too short for me. I'm using a 65 gallon tank that's 24" tall. OK, so if I place the probe 12" into the water... and want to wall-mount the display (it comes with a wall bracket for that purpose), I'm stretching the cord to get it where I want it and also creating a hazard. Not good.

So, I bought a different brand (Lab Safety Supply, Inc. part #148464) sold here and elsewhere for about $22 that has a waterproof probe and a very ample cord. Very compact and professional unit and that also has hi/low temp alerts but for the probe only (which for most people does the job just fine).

Lifegard could do much better on this one. Please make your cord longer.

The thermometer worked fine for about 2 years, but now the in-tank temperature reads about 8-10 degrees F too high. I contacted the manufacturer to request a replacement but was denied as the product only carries a 1-year warranty.

Hagen Marina Impeller Brush

Hagen Marina Impeller BrushThese little brushes make cleaning your impeller hole and filter case much easier. I also use it in the spray bar and tubing that goes from the Fluval 206 to the intake and outtake lines. If you tie a string to the eye hole at the end of the brush, you can pull it through the line easily. They are pretty sturdy and seem like they will last a while, if not I'll be buying more.

These brushes are great especially if you have a canister filter and need to clean the impeller assembly. Handy little items.

Blue Ribbon Cambodian Temple Ruins Aquarium Ornament

Blue Ribbon Cambodian Temple Ruins Aquarium OrnamentThis is a beautiful ornament for a fish tank! It fits perfectly in my 29 gallon, adding to the "jungle ruins" theme I am going for. It has a nice weight to it and looks to be constructed very well. My only complaint is that a couple of the openings (the entrance and one window) are a little rough and may tear a delicate fish's fins (like my betta). A little sanding solved that problem. I highly recommend!

Marineland LED Aquarium Kit - 10 Gallon

Marineland LED Aquarium Kit - 10 GallonWe just got this tank recently, and so far we love it! First, we did not buy the tank from this seller, I found it for about half price at a local store. I am writing the review here because this is where I go for reviews.

The main reasons we got it was because we needed to get some humidity and a night light in our 2 year olds room. We had a 2.5 gallon that just wasn't cutting it. This tank will grow with him. It is your standard 10 gallon tank, but it has the bio wheel that filters all the water in the tank 10 times and hour giving it crystal clear water. I love the LED lights, the daylight setting is bright, much better, clearer, cleaner light than the tube lighting we have in our living room aquarium. The night time light is perfect for a nightlight The only downside that I can see is that the current created by the filter is pretty strong. There is a Betta in there now and she stays either behind the filter or in the cove that we put in there. There are ways to slow the wheel down a little if you needed to.

I have heard different things about the bio wheel, some say it is silent some say it is noisy. I don't think that it is silent, but it isn't unusually loud either. It is more noisy with the cover on then off. I think that this provides just enough white noise to help our son sleep. I don't need to have the white noise on the radio anymore.

All in all, great tank!

AquaClear 50 Zeo-Carb

AquaClear 50 Zeo-CarbWhen I set up my new tank, I had ridiculously high ammonia levels. Due to a bit of overstocking no doubt. I lost my biggest beautiful Denison Barb because of it. So before I lost all of them, I decided to try the Zeo-Carb instead of the pure ammonia, since I like to have carbon as a filter media. Well, this stuff worked like a charm. Within two days my ammonia level was zero, zip ,nada....a nice pure yellow reading which is 0 ppm. My fish are thriving and I couldn't be happier! Thank you Aquaclear, this was a lifesaver...literally!

I have two goldfish in a 29 gallon tank and an Aqua Clear 50 filter. I do a 30% water change weekly. Even so, I used to have an ammonia problem I could never get it down to zero. The Zeo-Carb is the only thing that has helped with this and it's not available at my local pet stores. The price on Amazon seems reasonable and now I wouldn't use any other product. Highly recommended.

Tetra 5 in 1 Pond Test Strips, 50 strips

Tetra 5 in 1 Pond Test Strips, 50 stripsWe have been using Tetra test strips for our Koi pond since we established it. These strips make it simple and easy to control the water condition so that we don't lose $700 worth of fish. They are accurate and easy to use and easy to store. Amazon had the best price on them and gives us the best service.

I received these in the mail today [they are 4 months from expiration] and ran two strips right away. Both strips showed the same results, then I tested the same batch of water with my test tube and drops kit and again got the same results, then I ran all the tests again and got the same readings.

This shows the strips are accurate and consistent. Realise these tests are not minutely accurate, only showing a range of results, this however is accurate enough for the pond hobbyist.

TEST KITS AND STRIPS DO NOT WORK IF NOT USED.......TEST EVERY WEEK AND LOG THE RESULTS.

Buy Tetra 5 in 1 Pond Test Strips, 50 strips Now

I bought this to help test my pond water. When it arrived, the strips were 1 month from expiration. I tried to use them anyway and they implied the water was pristine. Clearly they were wrong because even though the water tested perfect and I changed the water regularly, I had a major fish die off within a month. I don't think these are very accurate and have stopped using them.

API Nitra-Zorb Filter Media Pouch

API Nitra-Zorb Filter Media Pouch Size 6This product likely saved the life of my fish. I have a 55 gallon with 5 goldfish, and the water had grown increasingly cloudy for weeks. Petsmart insisted the nitrates weren't high, but their testing strips are junk. They suggested plants, but goldfish eat those. Otherwise, all they could say was to get rid of some of my goldfish!!! Another pet store said to do some drastic water changes, which helped only slightly. A few weeks of this product and a couple water changes, and now my water is crystal clear and perfectly in balance. In an emergency if your nitrates have gotten out of control, this product works like a charm!!

In my 1 month old tank, my ammonia levels were just ok, but the nitrite levels were out of control. Within 24 hours after placing the pouch in my filter the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels dropped to 0 ppm. My fish thank API Nitra-Zorb

Want API Nitra-Zorb Filter Media Pouch Discount?

The idea behind it is great. Whats not in the description is the fact you have to recharge it in the begining every couple days to couple weeks before you get to the once a month. The recharge requires you to take it our of your filter and soak it in aquarium salt water for a couple hrs. I find it easier to just add salt to my aquarium. I have one and will recharge it because of that but will not replace when its required.

Laguna Max-Flo 4200 Waterfall & Filter Pump, PT-352

Laguna Max-Flo 4200 Waterfall & Filter Pump, PT-352Very happy with this pump.

Pros:

Quiet: I hear my air pump (which I consider to be very quiet) over the sound of this water pump.

Efficient: I am running this pump at 9' of head pressure and my kill-o-watt shows that it's drawing 155 watts. I believe it is pushing around 2,000 Gallons Per Hour at this head height.

Price: I bought 2 of these a few months ago for $200 each (looks like prices have gone up to $220 as of this review). Even at $220, this is still cheaper than pumps that have similar specs (PondMaster Pro Hy-Drive or Sicce Syncra HF).

No Seals: Unlike direct drive centrifugal (external pumps) you don't have to worry about seals failing with this pump.

Quality: The pump feels and looks to be well made.

Cons:

The "fast coupling" attachment is a bit cumbersome to use.

I had a heck of a time trying to get my 1.5" hose onto the barbed fitting.

Using the Laguna Max Flo 4200 and a Laguna Max Flo 2400 for my 300 gallon aquarium with a 125 sump. The aquarium is in my office and the pumps are extremely quiet. I used flexible hose to connect them to the plumbing. No vibration, no sound. At 5' of head, I'm assuming I'm getting 3,000 gph from the 4200.

Buy Laguna Max-Flo 4200 Waterfall & Filter Pump, PT-352 Now

Laguna is a brand in pumps I have worked with for quite some years now. The new "cage" style pumps are indeed nice in regard to handling solid waste appropriately in your pond meaning the pumps do well at not getting clogged up by debris. These pumps are also powerful and use less electricity to move water than most other push pumps do. However, finding the appropriate fittings (such as quick connects) is an inconvenience because one: they are hard to find, and two: it is very difficult to know what "size" you really need for hose size adaptation, etc. once you do locate them. Also, in many applications I have found getting hosing onto the fittings to be a real bear as a lot of heat or Vasoline is needed to complete this tight task! Nevertheless, it's your choice. If you want to try Laguna brand pumps, order them easily and much cheaper through AMAZON.COM. Nowadays you won't find these products at any retail operation.

It keeps my pond very clear and clean. I used to clean my motor with sponge sleeve at least 2x a week this summer. This filter is keeping the water clearer. I also love the waterfall it creates.

Want Laguna Max-Flo 4200 Waterfall & Filter Pump, PT-352 Discount?

As soon as I hooked this pump up to my 150gal filter systems I knew it could do the job. It not only ran on less juice than My previous German pump but pumped a higher volume of water. The slots on the pump housing however were narrower so it has plugged up a couple of times which amounts to a higher rate of plug-ups over time. I had hoped for a less blocking prone pump but I guess no one pump does it all. The German pump I had before lasted 7 years so it will be quit some time before I can rate this pumps longetivity but I am hopeful because the build quality seems good. In short I think this pump is a great performer for the price and I just hope it holds up over the long haul.....

Fluval 4 Plus Foam Insert, 4-Pack

Fluval 4 Plus Foam Insert, 4-PackThis is simply a foam filter that removes most refuse from the water. It stays operational for a fair amount of time considering the volume and number of critters. While other filters are more effective, here you get what you pay for: a simple, easy to clean filter that gets rid of most of the "yucks".

I was pleased to find this product because I drove all around my town to different pet stores looking for it. It allowed me to get my aquarium back up in no time.

Buy Fluval 4 Plus Foam Insert, 4-Pack Now

Works well. The filter itself has become not useful for the purpose. And the foams seem to go out pretty fast. Just wished they lasted a little longer. Probably gonna look into buying a new filter for my water turtle

Read Best Reviews of Fluval 4 Plus Foam Insert, 4-Pack Here

I find that these work better if replaced after every tank cleaning. (I have a turtle, and because the filter is so powerful, I wind up cleaning his tank maybe once a month.) So far I've reused the sponges twice, and I notice that the tank gets dirtier sooner. So yeah, definitely replace these and they do a spectacular job!

Want Fluval 4 Plus Foam Insert, 4-Pack Discount?

I've used several filtration units for my turtle tank and the Fluval Plus4 is definitely the best so far. The foam pads can be used (if cleaned regularly)for a little over two months and will with a little chemical aid keep the water smelling mostly like water. When supplemented by a water polishing(poly) or carbon pad, the maintenance level rises but the water clarity improves very much. Short of a long sand and gravel runoff and recirculating into a very big tank, nothing has kept my turtles' water as clean with bi-weekly or longer gaps between filter washing.(weekly rinsing is the recommended interval for maximum efficiency and pump life. But, who has the time?)

The filters will clog completely if ignored too long, but if your aquatic reptiles are IN your home, you probably already know that they will motivate you to clean the filter some time before the plus4 will clog completely. I cannot say that about any of the other brands of filter products I have used.

Hagen Nutrafin Max Sinking Pellets, 7.41-Ounce

Hagen Nutrafin Max Sinking Pellets, 7.41-OunceI'll be feeding this to my fish for the next 5 years. Seven ounces was 4 times bigger than I anticipated. I hope the fish enjoy this food, they are stuck with it! They seem to like to eat them. They sink fast, which is good because it allows the bottom feeders to eat while the other tank mates are eating the other floating foods.

The product "sinking pellets" were as described, not sure the fish liked them because they did not swim after them. Really looking for a pellet that floats down not drop quickly.

I have tried several brands and this one does not soften that fast. My clown loaches love them, since they seem to like hard food. Recomended for clown loaches. My Yoyo (pakistani) loaches and even platys go after them. Will not cloud your water like other i have tried. They sink fast so the dont float around, so for me this was very good. My loaches wake up and wait for pellets. This is a product i will continue to buy it and recommend it.

Seachem Acid Buffer 300gram

Seachem Acid Buffer 300gramThis is the best product to reduce pH, and least in my somewhat humble opinion. I live in an area with high pH, and I have a large planted tank with cardinal tetras and other fish that prefer slightly acidic water. I also used this when I was living in NYC and had a discus tank (and they were breeding, too, which was helped at least a little by this).

There are other products that reduce pH, and they certainly work, but this one seems to be less caustic and more reliable. It is also phosphate free, which will help reduce algae in your tank. Its the phosphate free feature of this that makes it special... I believe it is the only pH down product that is phosphate free that is readily available.

There is a companion product called Alkaline buffer that is supposed to be used with this. I cheat and use baking soda. The baking soda is perhaps not as good as Alkaline buffer to use with this, but it is 98% as good, and costs much, much less.

In my own tank at home I am raising some South American Cichlids (specifically Heros Severus, common name Severums), and where I live I have well water that runs through a natural Calcium Carbonate surface that causes the pH coming out of my tap to be at around 8.4.

I tried so many different products to lower pH. People recommended a 'tannin' soak which didn't work, a lot of other products only focused on the pH (while neglecting the hardness) and therefore would cause serious fluctuations in the pH. It would drop when the pH decreaser would enter, and than rise back up in 24 hours, and cause a serious stress on my fish.

I came across this on accident since none of the close pet stores sell this product. I wandered into a mom and pop fish store in my neighborhood and the guy recommended it to me. I tried initially without really reading the instructions (yeah I admit it) and I wasn't successful. I put the product away for a little while and finally gave it another shot (this time reading the instructions and following them) and it did work. My pH in my aquarium right now is at a 6.4.

A few warnings about this product, it is potent stuff. I have dropped the pH too drastically at times while preparing the water in a bucket. You can correct by introducing small amounts of baking soda into the water (or just mixing in some more of your tap water to correct for the low pH). Now I order it online since the mom and pop shop only has a small size of it.

I have not tried using the alkaline buffer, but the label states you can obtain set pH values by mixing certain amounts of both alkaline buffer/acid buffer.

Buy Seachem Acid Buffer 300gram Now

This review is for seachem's acid BUFFER. This is an amazing product that does as it says, works incredibly well with hard water, locks and maintains a ph, doesn't cause algae blooms and is plant friendly. The company not only produces great products that are well trusted in the fish community but also provide great customer support. I highly recommend this and wish my local pet stores would have recommended it a long time ago. I keep mostly various types of tetras which do best in a ph kept in the low 7 ph range.

Just a little background, I have very hard water and my ph comes in at 8.2 from the tap, which locks in because of the hardness. I spent a fortune trying to soften water to reduce this locking effect and my ph seemed to lower and then slowly rise back to the upper 7 and 8 range and then i had algea blooms. It was a horrible cycle that required a lot of chemicals, time and the swings occuring in my tank were harmful to the well being of my fish. I searched and tried many products at local pet stores. No one in my area carried this product. I just knew there had to be something out there. I began searching amazon for other options. I found this product and read a detailed descriptions but was still unsure. I emailed the company directly and had a very quick, personal response by a very knowledgable representative who explained everything and made sure I understood and was satisfied. Of course I tried the product and will always use it.

I just followed the directions on the bottle leaving a few days in between each dose until I got it to the ph I wanted. Now I rarely have to add any to the tank, unless i change something in the tank, like add new decorations, which can change your ph. I only add this to new water during water changes with stress coat. This is such an easy and safe process. Just remember in the begining to add it slowly (over many days) in small amounts and test the ph regularly so you don't lower it too quickly or too low.

I tried almost everything out there, from peat granules and driftwood to the proper API chemicals, to lower the pH of my local tap water (dGH: 15, dKH: 6, pH: 7.8). pH DOWN from API was good but not good enough, the dose said two drops per gallon but that wasn't nearly enough. I had to quadruple the dose and it only went from a 7.8 to around 7.1 just for it to bounce back to 7.8 the next day.

Acid buffer keeps the water acidic and I only had to double dose the first week. My aquarium water is pretty well buffered now and it doesn't bounce back after every water change. Pretty great product from Seachem. 5/5 would recommend.
