I transferred my betta from a bowl to a 5 gallon tank, and needless to say, I was anxious to get him into his new spacious tank ASAP. This product allowed me to do that after just one 12 hour period with the filter running and the SafeStart added (not sure even that was necessary). I got this after I set up a new 2gal aquarium (under gravel filter, aerator and heater...cost more than the fish, but worth it!) and had never heard of cycling (please Google aquarium cycling or nitrogen cycle, too long to explain here). After testing I found very high nitrites >5ppm and no nitrates (very bad). I called Tetra and they told me to change 25% of the water and put in 1 teaspoon into the new water (mix with the new 25% water before putting in the tank, also add dechlorinator and can add aquarium salt not table salt). By the following week when I tested again nitrites were 0 and nitrates were 0-5ppm (desirable readings). I highly recommend this product. Note: shake extremely well and refrigerate after opening.

Simply put, if you want to avoid water problems starting up your Freshwater Aquarium you're better off purchasing Distilled water from the grocery. I've had aquariums for many many years and I recently discovered that my tap water had a PH of 8 and a water hardness of 185ppm. I bought this Water Softner Pillow hoping to get my ppm down to about 80ppm with absolutely no success. The time spent, the purchase price with shipping and handling just isn't worth it. If I had started my new tank with Distilled water, I would have a nicely conditioned aquarium after a month. Instead I bought this Pillow AND I'm still getting no where with my ppm. I understand the chemistry (Pointed out by the Seller) and its complications. If I had started with Distilled water from the beginning I'd be much better off. I have very hard water where I live, which makes it difficult to control my pH. Out of the tap, my GH is 215 ppm and my KH is 6'.

I bought five new 5 gallon buckets, filled them with water and put a pillow in each one. If one pillow treats up to 55 gallons then 5 gallons should be no problem. I covered the buckets and let them sit for 2 days.

When I tested the water from the buckets my GH and KH were unchanged.

Probably hard to believe, but our six month old cat ran through the door and broke it off at the hinges. Martha's Pet Place was very helpful and followed-up promptly to my calls on warranty coverage. They even called ahead to the manufacturer for me to ensure this was covered. The manufacturer is replacing the flap under warranty, so kudos all around for good customer service. Now, back to the door, the only complaint I have is that the install is a little funky for wider doors and requires drilling out the holes in the cat door. Seems like including some longer screws would be easier and a stronger mount to the door. Other than that, the door works fine and does the job. The cats had no problem learning how to use it. My one recommendation would be to add some kind of flag that pops up on the door if it's locked so the cats don't run into it when it's locked. I haven't tried locking mine yet, which is probably a good thing...

We installed this on a hollow core door, it couldn't have been easier (and I am no handy-man!) Just trace the template onto the door, use an electric or manual jig-saw, and you're almost done! Don't be scared by the instructions telling you to drill out some of the holes on the product, just use the drill bit they recommended and all will go smoothly. Cats love this thing, and it keeps the dog out of the basement while still allowing the cats to access their food/litter box. If you are concerned about the size of your cat, our big one is 18 pounds and pretty large, he has no issues fitting through.

I have had this product for 13 years. It is a problem solver when cats want to go in and out of rooms when the door is closed. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of five was the fact that it is realy realy small. I expected it to be bigger, well much bigger (taller and a bit wider). I thought it would be the same size but it was tiny. Luckily I found that it fits well on my smaller HOB filters with 1 inch or less lift tubes so i decided to upgrade all my smaller HOB filters and buy the three pack (I accidentally bought the 1 pack for $3.49!). It is a good deal for three of these knowing one of them on amazon sells for 3.49-as the three pack is only 3.99 (50 cents for two extra!). Great product for upgrading your smaller HOB filters! Just make sure you rinse them out when you do water changes as they have a tendancy to get gunked up and impede the flow of your fitler.

This is fine. It's a cylindrical sponge with a hole on one side, but it isn't a Fluval. The most important difference is that the Fluvals have a hole large enough to fit on almost any HOB filter intake. This sponge's hole is about half the diameter. You have to either take out the intake tube and use two hands to really push it in, or you'll have to do what I did: take a hobby knife and cut lengthwise inside the hole in order to enlarge the opening.

It's still good for the price, but this is not a Fluval in name or design (it doesn't even come in Fluval packaging), and you'll have to do some work to get it to perform its function properly.

I use the Fluval Edge prefilters on the intake tubes of 3 Aquaclear 20 filters in 5.5 gallon aquariums, which I use as part of a sectional aquarium setup for raising fancy guppies.

I also have a 10 gallon tank as part of my guppy sectional setup, with an Eheim 2213 canister filter, which I have also added one of these prefilters to.

The Eheim's intake strainer is small enough to slip the Fluval prefilter on, and the Aquaclear 20 is the same filter used by Fluval with its Edge 6 and 12 gallon tanks, so the fit is perfect.

I use these prefilters for two reasons. The first is to prevent guppy fry from being sucked up into the main filters.

The second is to prevent much of the detritus in my tanks from reaching the Aquaclear 20's mechanical filter sponge.

I have noticed that the mechanical filters in the Aquaclears stay much cleaner since I've added the Fluval prefilters.

I remove the prefilters once a week or so, rinse them well under tap water since they absorb alot of detritus, and place them back on the filter intake tubes.

And since the main filter already has a biofilter, I don't have to worry about rinsing the prefilter in tank water or filtered water. The chlorinated tap water works fine.

These filters really have made it easier to keep my Eheim and Aquaclear filters cleaner, and they are well worth the money. Especially when purchasing them in a three pack.

I have it pointed a little above level to create surface agitation and it still moves the sand on the bottom of the tank creating dunes in the sand. My tank is 22" deep. In order to actually use it I took out the propeller and trimmed it down to a more reasonable flow rate, it was not too hard just make sure its equal on both sides. great product for the price.

I use two of these in my 46 gallon mixed reef. They alternate every 90 minutes and I know there are no dead spots in my tank! I actually had to position them in such a way that my live rock would diffuse some of the flow because it was moving too much of my sand bed. Great powerhead and you cant beat the price.

I would designate these a child's toy for pretend play without water. As an ornament for an outdoor pond, these are pretty useless. Compared to real goldfish, they are about 50% the size. In the product information, it says "Attached weights position fish in any depth aquarium." This is the main reason I purchased these fish. There is no such thing in the fish I received. They float on the surface with the dorsal fin above water, like a shark, or after a short time sink to the bottom. They are cute, and nicely made. Shipping was quick, and from Hong Kong, about the only place in the world that has these.

-Two things with the power (chord is 5ft btw), the plug is big so if you're using a wall outlet it must be on bottom, it has a red light on it I think red lights on plug-ins are annoying.

For the price, this light is awesome. It looks good, Its super bright, and the blue lights make glofish glow really well. I gave 4/5 because of the value although I was pretty upset I had to modify my tank to accommodate it. I think if you're on a budget and don't mind modifying your tank a little than this is a great choice. I would get 2 for a 20+ gallon tank.

It lights it up very brightly and brings out the colors in the fish and aquarium real well. I love the blue " night light" option.

I had a couple of lights go on my Aquarium go bad. One was a LED and I only had it months, most of the lights went out and then the switch went. I also had the older version of florescent lights which gave a reddish look to the Aquarium . Both were replaced with a AGP tek ,which was very easy to adapt to fit . I was able to keep the new lights high enough to keep them from being wet most of the time. If you have checked out Aquarium lights the AGPtek are reasonable priced. Only three weeks but so far so good. The 4 stars are only because of the short time I've had them installed.

I have been very impressed with this product; I have tried everything! AquaClear 110 Activated Carbon Insert - 9 Ounces

First of all, I really love the quality of the AquaClear pump. Bumping up the pump size on my existing tank, makes for a consistenly cleaner tank, happier fish (yes there is such a thing) and a pump that also runs cleaner since it is designed for a much larger tank. Problem though is the inserts (filter, charcoal, and BioMaxx) are also designed to service a larger tank. The preportioned biomaxx and charcoal are too much for a smaller tank so you need to cut back in these areas if you super-size the pump.

As to the charcoal, I don't know what is going on but on the small tanks, the charcoal is clean out of the box. The 2 different boxes that I have used at this size require serious rinsing of the charcoal packs before placing in the tank. The amount of black water and charcoal stained hands from this is a real problem. That said, if you take the time to rinse all of the black out of the charcoal prior to placing in the tank, you will have good activated charcoal, a great additional filter, and your fish will be around to enjoy

This carbon works great in the aquaclear filter. My tank stays clean and clear and my fish stay healthy and happy.

The use of carbon is questionable and many say you don't really need it. I'm one of those and feel that it may be good during times of using medication to remove them from the water. I've always been pretty happy with AquaClear products.

API 5 in 1 Aquarium Test Strips

I have this along with an API ammonia dropper test kit. I'm a week into cycling my tank so I expected to get some particular readings. The readings from this test strip were the same as the readings that my local fish store gave me when I brought some water in, so they work. Performing the test is dirt simple and reading them isn't too hard (maybe a little if it looks like its in between two colors). Obviously if you don't follow instructions you'll get bad readings and most likely blame the product. Here's a summary of the instructions in case you're wondering how it works.

It's simple. Dip strip in, swirl twice, then pull out with the strip horizontal and face up. Don't shake off the water. Read the GH & KH immediately. Read the pH, NO2, NO3 after 30 seconds.

If you're careless and just pull it out and read it vertically, I imagine the water could run off from the higher test pads down to lower ones on the strip and completely screw up everything, so don't do that.

This is 10 times more quick then doing drops for everything, but you can be more precise with drops. Still, I find this to be perfectly acceptable for monitoring the levels of everything so I'm happy.

I think this test kit works fine (I haven't tested against another to make sure). It is easy to read. The problem is that the instruction sheet is massive and hard to read. It would be nice to have a cheat sheet or something less dense to compare results. But after doing a few I know what to look for.

The idea is great. I must have got a dud because 1 died in a year and the other is still going strong 3 yrs later! They create a nice current in the aquarium. I bought the 2 for each corner of my 75 gallon aquarium. The fish seemed happier with the increased water movement. The fake leaves got sucked into them often and you have to clean it out. Quite the pain but oh well. The magnets were super heavy duty and worked well to keep them where I placed them.

I've had two of these in my tank for over 2 years now and they have been fantastic. I don't think this review will hold much weight anymore as the Koralia 4's have since been replaced by the Koralia Evolution series but they are still a nice powerhead. Very efficient. I don't have any start up issues with them, and they are very low maintenance. I soak them in vinegar overnight and that is with heavy calcium chloride and sodium carbonate/bi-carbonate dosing for my reef.

I love the mounting system, I have been tempted to do the maxijet sureflow mod to them (I read you can take the impeller out of the kit and use them in the K4's to increase flow) but have not tried yet.

biOrb Easy Plant - 2 Pack Large

I love this brand and type of plant for my aquarium. Our local pet store only carries the small and medium, so when I found the large online I ordered immediatly. They are the best and I will continue to purchase this brand.

However, with in 2 hrs of having the plants in the tank our pleco became entangled in the grass like plant (it is made poorly and left with jagged edges) and cut up his fins very badly. The wider leaf plant is perfect though.

They were a little bigger than I had anticipated but can be cut down to proper size, which I'm fine with.

To me, they looked like they were supposed to be a neon green, which was what I was looking for. They turned out a typical green color.

Other than color, they're nice.

Gets the job done. There is a newer version of this product by Top Fin that includes suction cups, which allow you to anchor the hatchery to your tank wall.

In terms of isolating fry from ravenous adults... this product is only so-so. If you have any sort of predatory fish in your tank that are capable of sucking, fry will be instantly gobbled up through the slots on the side (narrow enough to prevent them from swimming out of the hatchery, but not narrow enough to prevent them from being eaten by outside fish).

A good option for isolating injured or aggressive adult fish (the separators are easy to add/remove).

Yes....I said Frogs!!! I have a 20 gal fish tank & my guppies are always stealing my sea frogs blood worms when it comes to dinner time! Anyways I put my 2 froggies in the hatchery w/there dinner & Yay!!!...no one starves!!! I tried everything to keep these worn stealin guppies... from fish dividers & the little guppies squeeze throught it! also...can reused this hatchery when my girl guppies start popping the frys! and last note: I went to petco to investigate this item before I bought from amazon & check out the" Marina hatchery and their price was $18.99!!! This worked exactly as advertised. The momma gave birth, and the babies were able to get under cover where she couldn't reach them. I think the only thing that was an issue for me was that I wanted to transfer the babies to a hanging net to mature in since I have other pregnant fish. The slits on the side of the hatchery (to let water in) was also where water would drain out if I tried pulling the hatchery up to move the babies. I had to cover the side with my hand so the water wouldn't seep out, and then moved the babies to their new hanging net home. Minor issue. My 90+ black mollie babies are happy their mom didn't eat them.

it does have a bend/curve on the right side so its not flush to the glass but i love the look, and the fish love to hide in it if you have other decor to match its color and at least a 29 gal tank to fit its get it. it is very tall

I do like the style of it and the height I needed for my tank.It does tend to cast a bluish green color in the tank. If you like that color then its great. The fish do swim in and out of the openings. Cool to watch!
