My lamp arrived two and a half weeks early! Out of the box, it is easy to attach to the aquarium. The white lights illuminate the tank (2.5 gallons) rather nicely and the blue lights will probably be used at nighttime.

I have two issues the lamp is wiggly on my tank because it is awkwardly shaped and takes a little maneuvering to get it right. The other thing is that is gets warm quickly. I'm gonna be keeping a close eye on it today to see if it gets wickedly hot. Besides those two things, this lamp is excellent for the price!

You cannot use this where moisture or water evaporation can leak into it. It will stop working in a few weeks if moisture gets inside the lamp. This lamp is only useful if you have a transparent aquarium lid under the lamp, and if you place it away from any filters that can cause water evaporation near the lamp. However, the lamp does light up a lot, and the second mode for night-time is a moonlight-blue.

Nice and bright. it has two modes, white & blue or just blue. If you have the plastic rim around the top of your aquarium, you will need to cut a slot out so you can attach the light, easy to do.

Eshopps Float Valve

First let me say, I like the thing. I use it as an auto-top-off solution, and it's literally one of the only float valves correctly sized for a sump tank. . I'm glad I bought it and saved $$ over an expensive ATO like the Osmolator. However, a couple of drawbacks:

Construction isn't the best. It's a bit "wobbly" when mounted. The insert where the hose goes in is less-than-reliable. The hose doesn't fit in watertight very well, it takes a lot of maneuvering to get the drips to stop. I've also had it pop out, and nearly flood my sump before I caught it. There's also no way to turn it off for water changes, etc.

Out of the box, I wouldn't necessarily see this as "set it and forget it." I ended up permanently sealing the inlet with glue and silicone, and put a ball valve on the hose a few inches from the intake. That way not only is there a nice tight seal on the inlet, but I can stop the flow during a water change etc.

I'd recommend it to people, but only if they realize that you have to take some steps to ensure it's reliable functionality.

I recieved the product in a timely manor. I did have to alter one thing on the product. the hole that allowed the water to seep through was small (microscopic). So, I opened it up more for my preference. Love the product. It come out of the box assembled all I had to do was tie in my water line that fed it.

I liked the product, It does what I need it to do, but be careful you don't always get what you see. The picture and advertisement were not what came in the box. The picture showed a 90 degreee fitting and it came with a straight fitting. I called and Sandy was nice enough to send me the proper fitting I needed. She also sent me a neopreme washer because it came with a broken one. Be very carefull the clear plastic ring that holds the float is very brittle and after tighting mine and trying to to turn the float a little it snapped right off.

i cant believe i was manually adding water to my tank. I couldnt be gone from home more than 2 days. I have a 30 gal square rimless tank with a MH lighting. My tank evaporates almost 2 gallons/day. I plumbed under my house directly from RO unit and it is maintenance free. This is hands down the best investment i have made for my reef tank. Do yourself the favor and buy this and dont try to diy. This unit looks really good in my sump. I tried several diy ato's and this one looks VERY good in the sump.

Exotic Environments Forgotten Ruins Aquarium Ornament

Since this is a PRODUCT review, I decided to rate it based on the product, itself. It's a very nice item, and would have looked even better in my daughter's little fish tank. I guess the reason I did not give it five stars is because the manufacturer has to take a little blame for a product that breaks so easily during shipment.

The first time I received this item, one of the back corners on the bottom was completely broken off. I decided to do an exchange. When the second one arrived, the OTHER back corner was completely shattered. These failed transactions are a combination of poor packaging (Amazon), careless handling (USPS), and bad construction (manufacturer).

I will not be taking a third chance on this product, and I really regret that my daughter will not get to enjoy it in her fish tank. If you're willing to risk the chance that it might arrive intact, I would probably recommend the product because I think that, compared to pet stores, the price of this item is very good. But if you don't have to patience to deal with products arriving damaged, I recommend going to your local pet shop and spending the extra $5 or $10 for a comparable item.

I had no problems with the castle. It was not damaged in any way. I was a little worried that it would be too big for my tank, but it fits wonderfully. The holes aren't big enough for fish that are bigger than bettas, so if that's what you're looking for, this isn't it. Overall I think it's a great addition to my tank and the fish seem to like it too.

Not same color as pictured. A little darker blue. Not enough for the money. I do like these as they add a lot of color to the aquarium. Killed the living fungus quite well but once I started phasing out it slowly started growing back... not sure if this can't kill the spores or if something else is responsible so I won't dock stars from it but you decide if you want it. I will say once it went in the water the fish recovered quickly! Also a downside, it is bright green and the directions for removing the green involve activated carbon filters which many new aquariums don't use so removing the green is a difficult and lengthy process.

It is a sturdy wall decoration that looks great underwater. I like the colors and the swim holes. I am using as the main piece in a five gallon hex though it could certainly be used in any size larger tank as well. It is the exact size for the effect that I was looking for. Will add picture as well.

It's large and nice looking, but way to sharp for a Betta fish. I didn't return it because it will be fine with any other fish, but the Betta's tail would rip on these edges.

I purchased this for my snakes terrarium. Its really cool and unique, and came on time. The only thing i didnt like about it was the hollow bottom, where my snake could climb up inside and become stuck. I still give it 5 stars because it is intended for underwater usage, not snake jungle gyms. My betta will love it :)

TOM Aquarium Rapids Mini Canister hang-on-the-tank C-80, 80gph

I'm using this for a 10gal heavily planted freshwater tank. It's very quiet and the spray bar discharge is excellent for my plants. The output stem arrived broken but Amazon sent me an entire new unit and TOM sent a replacement part, excellent service from both. The best feature is the ease in using custom filter materials. I use an AquaClear 300 sponge on one side and BioMax in the other. Seems to do the trick. No stop valve to help maintenance, as in more expensive canister filters, but at this price it's understandable.

UPDATE: My shipping charge for returning the original unit were also refunded, Amazon's return policy is excellent!

UPDATE 2: Jan. 2012, it leaks, replaced it with a Finnex 360. It's a little larger, we'll see how long this lasts.

I got this to use with a 2 gallon betta tank. The plan was to use it as a filter and also increase total amount of water. It seemed perfect as the spray bar would avoid causing a current which my betta does not like. For some reason i just assumed that it would have a flow control, but, as it turns out, there is no flow control and the spay bar sprays water much like that in a kitchen sink. Its way too powerful for smaller tanks. Dont bother with this for tanks 5 gallons or less. The quality of the hoses are suspect, they dont seem like they would last. I got the palm azoo instead for my 2 gallon betta and its perfect! The flow control turned all the way down provides a gentle filter output.

11/02/2010 CORRECTION. I did exactly as the buyer "Professor Bubba" suggested in review of "Zoo Med 501 Turtle Canister Filter" : I replaced the filter that came with pump with a nylon bag ($1.50) purchased at pet shop filled with over-the-counter activated carbon (got the entire carton for $6.50)and could not believe the results. It's been two weeks so far and water is clear. Thank you Bubba. ..and Yes this filter seem to be capable of producing crystal-clear water.

CONS: The filter never produces crystal-clear water, it always murky. Filter requires cleaning weekly. Perhaps it's just not powerful enough for a 10 gal tank.

Initial thoughts:

The filter is dead silent. I switched from a HOB Whisper filter to this canister filter.. and wow. After leaving the room it's being used in for several hours and walking back in, I thought it had stopped workingI couldn't hear a thing!

The filter media included is so-so. Though I haven't been able to see how well the ceramic media works, I can already tell that the other included media wasn't all that great. Read up on what kind of filtration you want(chemical, mechanical, biological, etc.) and make your own media.

SO FAR, the only con I have:

The hoses. They're tragically short and hard to manipulate. You can't bend them into place at all. I may switch out the included hose for a different one.

I spent a good quarter of an hour wrestling with the hoses to let the water distribute through my TEN GALLON tank as efficiently as possible, and it's still not what I want. Oh well.

Overall, it's easy to modify this little canister with your own filter media, it's silent, and it's powerful.

I've had this sucker running for a month, so it's time for an update.

The hoses seem to have loosened a bit, so that's kind of nice. I'm still planning on replacing them with longer and more flexible tubing if I can.

No leaks, no damage, the impeller is still running smoothly without any noise.

You'll want to make a media basket for the ceramic. I'm working on a plan to make a partition for the side that gets the water from the tank so the pipe leading in isn't so difficult to shove back in after cleaning. Again, if you're going to get this filter, prepare to play around with the filter media.

ALSOthis little guy does NOT have a shut off valve. Be warned! Not only can this make things messy but it can be difficult to prime the filter again. I'll add shut off valves when I replace the hoses so I don't get fish water all over my dorm. If you don't build one, get a bucket or cut a gallon milk jug in half to catch any water that comes out and QUICKLY lift the top of the filter above your tank to stop the water flow!

So far, it's working great on my little planted tank. It's perfect for my Betta boy and his Corydoras catfish friends. My bio load may be small at the moment, but it's keeping the water wonderfully clean with minimal maintenance on both the tank and the filter.

Overall, this filter has some major flaws, but it is great for the price you pay.

The filter has been running strong for almost a year now. Still silent and still good at what it does. If I have any complaint it's that this little guy has ruined HOB filters for me.

Admittedly, I never bothered with replacing the tubing, but I will update if I do.

Ok first off this canister filter has great potential i bought one on sale when i saw the carbon bag in it i immediately tossed it out (garbage). how to set it up : first get a peice of bio foam and cut it to fit snug on top of intake side then put some aquarium cotton , then cut a polishing pad to size then u have the ceramic rings at the bottom on the return side i put in a marine land activated carbon bag wrapped it around the return tube , wallah pro filtration five stage filter in seconds i use it for my 20 g long marine tank and the water is crystal clear for a whole month !!!then flow starts to slow down no problem just do ur monthly maintenance and flow will be back to normal. Blue Ribbon Natural Driftwood Large

don't buy this it is not what the picture represents!!! looks more like a tree branch than driftwood and you can actually see saw marks like it is part of a pruned bush. Its a 20 inch long stick.

I bought 2 of these Large 16"-20" chunks of wood and I am happy. I bought some from another place and was not happy with the Quality it was a low grade wood Chunks would fall off of it. BUT THIS ONE.... This is a good solid piece Great colour a high grade then others. Yes it looks nothing like the photo but DUH every piece of wood is different. I will post a photo of my pieces in my 80 Gal tank.

Its always best to pick out your own wood but I can never find any good size piece at the stores near me so I took a chance I'm happy I did and so are my Discus.

I do realize that all driftwood is different. That said, I do take issue receiving a piece of driftwood measuring 14 inches at longest point (classified as medium per Amazon's product description) while paying for a large piece of wood advertised as 20 to 26 inches. To top it off, the wood I received is unusable in an aquarium setting due to the fact that the center was extremely porous/ rotted with sharp edges and micro crevices that will slice any fish attempting to swim through. My wood does not look like pictures posted by other users, perhaps it is the reseller Two to Tango that is the issue?

Lifegard FB300 Fluidized Bed Filter - Up to 300 gal.

This filter worked well when it worked. You need a separate power head to run the Lifeguard. I had great difficulty getting the Lifeguard going again everytime I cleaned the power head and hooked it back up. I ended up getting rid of it too much hassle. They need to provide a dedicated, matched powerhead and connections the list in the instruction manual of compatible units is not accurate!

This would offer an immense amount of biological filtration for the dollar except for two stupid design flaws. First, anytime the power goes off and the filter loses flow, the sand fills up the input tube. This requires removing the sand through the hole in the top and replacing it the same way, which is an extraordinarily tedious task. Second, the seal on the bottom is very poor quality. I've had two develop leaks, one right out of the box. Lifeguard probably saved a dime in manufacturing costs and the result was a very bad product. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

In the last two weeks I've had 2 of these leak from the seam on the bottom of the filter. It does a GREAT job of biological filtration but with any significant pressure load it leaks. I was running it on the return side of an Ocean Clear canister powered by an 800gph little giant pump. It cant take that basic pressure so sadly I cant use it. It might be better suited to running off a lower flow powerhead but since my tank is drilled in the bottom I have no use for this since I don't want to run something up top that would obstruct the view of the tank. Too bad it's not more sturdy it would have made a great addition to my filtration.

AquaClear 110 Activated Carbon Insert - 9 Ounces

First of all, I really love the quality of the AquaClear pump. Bumping up the pump size on my existing tank, makes for a consistenly cleaner tank, happier fish (yes there is such a thing) and a pump that also runs cleaner since it is designed for a much larger tank. Problem though is the inserts (filter, charcoal, and BioMaxx) are also designed to service a larger tank. The preportioned biomaxx and charcoal are too much for a smaller tank so you need to cut back in these areas if you super-size the pump.

As to the charcoal, I don't know what is going on but on the small tanks, the charcoal is clean out of the box. The 2 different boxes that I have used at this size require serious rinsing of the charcoal packs before placing in the tank. The amount of black water and charcoal stained hands from this is a real problem. That said, if you take the time to rinse all of the black out of the charcoal prior to placing in the tank, you will have good activated charcoal, a great additional filter, and your fish will be around to enjoy

This carbon works great in the aquaclear filter. My tank stays clean and clear and my fish stay healthy and happy.

The use of carbon is questionable and many say you don't really need it. I'm one of those and feel that it may be good during times of using medication to remove them from the water. I've always been pretty happy with AquaClear products.

I don't believe there is enough carbon inside the mesh bag, As all my levels are perfect, however the water is not crystal clear like the last one I had ordered. Quality control perhaps? Who knows. I'm considering adding extra carbon to it to see if it does the trick & report back.

I ordered this as a gift and the first clock didn't work. I requested a return and the company was very responsive. They shipped another one right away. The second one works great. Its actually a nice size and, if you are careful with your arrangement, you can put a little water plant in it. Actually, as long as you don't cover the clock too much, you can use it for whatever your imagination can come up with. My daughter is still contemplating exactly what she wants in it but, in the meantime, it looks and works just like a clock. Eventually, probably more than once, it will become a fun art project for her.
