Eshopps Float Valve
Construction isn't the best. It's a bit "wobbly" when mounted. The insert where the hose goes in is less-than-reliable. The hose doesn't fit in watertight very well, it takes a lot of maneuvering to get the drips to stop. I've also had it pop out, and nearly flood my sump before I caught it. There's also no way to turn it off for water changes, etc.
Out of the box, I wouldn't necessarily see this as "set it and forget it." I ended up permanently sealing the inlet with glue and silicone, and put a ball valve on the hose a few inches from the intake. That way not only is there a nice tight seal on the inlet, but I can stop the flow during a water change etc.
I'd recommend it to people, but only if they realize that you have to take some steps to ensure it's reliable functionality.I recieved the product in a timely manor. I did have to alter one thing on the product. the hole that allowed the water to seep through was small (microscopic). So, I opened it up more for my preference. Love the product. It come out of the box assembled all I had to do was tie in my water line that fed it.I liked the product, It does what I need it to do, but be careful you don't always get what you see. The picture and advertisement were not what came in the box. The picture showed a 90 degreee fitting and it came with a straight fitting. I called and Sandy was nice enough to send me the proper fitting I needed. She also sent me a neopreme washer because it came with a broken one. Be very carefull the clear plastic ring that holds the float is very brittle and after tighting mine and trying to to turn the float a little it snapped right off.i cant believe i was manually adding water to my tank. I couldnt be gone from home more than 2 days. I have a 30 gal square rimless tank with a MH lighting. My tank evaporates almost 2 gallons/day. I plumbed under my house directly from RO unit and it is maintenance free. This is hands down the best investment i have made for my reef tank. Do yourself the favor and buy this and dont try to diy. This unit looks really good in my sump. I tried several diy ato's and this one looks VERY good in the sump. This product is sturdy and works. Makes auto top off systems easy and manageable with this one valve and gravity!!

Great, quality product. I have a 5 gallon octagon tank and only bought 1 bag of this gravel, not nearly enough. I think you should get 1 bag per gallon. Holds it's color well too. Definately recommend.Dirty when I bought. Turned to powdery crap after cleaning the tank a few times. I would never buy anything of this brand againThe rocks came very fast, that's the only good part. After i washed the rocks and put them in my fish tank, it started to lose color in a week. Not safe for the fishes and just waste of money.. Just go to pet storeSunday, September 14, 2014

Finnex 50-Watt Hang-On Electronic Controller Aquarium Heater, Titanium Tube, 10 to 20-Gallon
My only complaint about this model would be the very short cord (approx. 6") between the controller and the plug that goes into your electrical outlet. This definitely compromises the places you can put the controller within easy access, depending on the location of your tank and your outlets.
Otherwise, a fine, much appreciated product!Pros:
reliably maintains constant temperature
adjustable external to the tank
Cons:
warranty is reprehensible (see below)
cord is very stiff and thick
suction cups don't really work adequately
temperature control is cheap quality
instructions are sparse, translated English
First of all, it gets 3 stars because it reliably maintains a constant temperature, unlike the ViaAqua.
My main complaint is the 180 day warranty!!!. For the price why doesn't it have a lifetime warranty like the Marineland heaters? Next time I need aquarium stuff, I think I will go to an aquarium store/site.
I do like the convenience of being able to adjust the temperature external to the tank, but it is not worth any down-sides, since a decent heater only needs to be set once.
Buy Finnex 50-Watt Hang-On Electronic Controller Aquarium Heater, Titanium Tube, 10 to 20-Gallon Now
This heater will do the job if you have a 10 gal unit. Looks smaller than pictured, but heats very well. My house gets 67 at night an 75 during the day and water stays 78.All I could ask.If you have a Fluval Spec V (or another type of nano tank), I would recommend this heater based on my experience so far. (have been using for close to a month)The 3 best features:
1. small size with enough power to get the job done
2. the controls are on the outside of the tank making it easy to adjust without ever having to move the heater.
3. it is metal instead of glass. therefore, a lot more durable.
The reasons I did not rate 5 stars:
1. when the heating element turns on/off, the controls make a pretty loud click. This can be a little annoying at night if you are trying to sleep next to it. (all aq. heaters do this, but most are quieter because they are underwater)
2. I wish the cord length between the heater and controller was a bit longer so it would be easier to hide the controller.
Bottom line: This heater is tough and keeps the water of my 5.6 gallon tank evenly heated at 77-78 degreed F. I suspect it would have no trouble with a bit larger tank too (the controls allow form more heat than that). It is convenient to use, and very compact.
side note: the instructions say to only position the heater horizontally, but I have had no trouble leaving it vertical in the hidden pump compartment of my Spec V.
UPDATE: 2 months in the tank and still going strong. This is a good product. I have a 10 gallon tanks and it was getting pretty chilly in the night. I just plugged the heater in and it works great, it keeps the temperature steady. It has been working for a couple of months now, with no problem at all. I am very satisfied, I definitely recommend this product.

CaribSea Midnight Black Floramax Premium Aquarium Substrate
Anyway, I totally gutted out my old gravel substrate and replaced it with this. I rinsed the Floramax thoroughly before adding it in. I planted a bunch of stem plants, dwarf hair grass, vals, and hygros and got some great results. Of course I added a co2 injection system, albeit DIY, and dose ferts with my excellent lighting. Look up one of my videos on youtube by searching "Nano Cube 12g FW Planted Update 2012" and you'll see what I mean. Also, I didn't experience any cloudiness. I just followed the instructions and after adding in the substrate and filling my tank with water, I used the enclosed packet of bio-magnet to help remove the fine particles that can be suspended in the water to cause cloudiness.
Hope this helps... I'm convinced this is a good substrate for the value!I bought this substrate about 3 months ago knowing nothing about it. I had never used a plant substrate before and since it said minimal rinsing may be needed all I did was dump the whole bag in a bucket, added some water, and dumped out the slightly cloudy water. Added it to my tank, filled the tank slowly and turned on my filter. I will admit it was really cloudy...but only for about 45 minutes. I let it sit over night and then added plants and deco.
So far I have not had any problems with it. I have a peacock eel that likes to burrow and it doesn't stir up any "residue" or make the water cloudy.
I'll be buying another few bags off Amazon in the next few week for a new tank.
My advice, if it clouds your water just be patient and let the filter clear it up. A lot of people want it perfectly clear right off the bat so they can add fish and get that going, just relax and let it do its thing.
Buy CaribSea Midnight Black Floramax Premium Aquarium Substrate Now
I bought FloraMax from my local Petsmart, I wanted to set up a 10-gal shrimp aquarium with live plants, using a black plant-growing substrate, and this was the only stuff they had on the shelves that was the right color. I tried to wash it as thoroughly as I could before putting it into the aquarium, but even with pouring bucketfulls of black murky water down the bathroom sink when washing off the substrate, my aquarium still was dark and cloudy for a day before it settled down. Okay, that's kind of expected, so I didn't mind it too much. After putting the shrimps into the aquarium, I later decided this wasn't a good substrate for a nano shrimp tank (gravel was too big--the gravel pellets were almost as big as they were) and I had a hard time keeping the plants in the gravel, it was ultra hard to plant them because of the large size and light weight of the gravel bits. I emptied out all the shrimps/snails and then took out all the substrate. Immediately the water turned back into a big black murky mess as soon as I started to grab handfuls of the stuff out. I ended up baking all the substrate in the oven to dry it so I could put it into storage, and was astonished by the amount of silt that was still there, even after everything I had done. Discovered that the large-sized pieces of substrate just crumble into smaller pieces if you crush it between your fingers, no wonder I couldn't get the stuff clean.
A better product is Eco-Complete Plant Substrate, put that in my 29-gal a few months ago and couldn't be happier with the way it turned out, no washing required, looks great, and the plants are doing well. Buy it instead of the FloraMax.

*warning: newb w/ aquarium and plants...read following comments accordingly*Reworked my 3 gallon betta tank today by removing Oscar, all live plants, decorations, and white gravel (the hell was I thinking?) and replacing it with the Floramax substrate. No....I didn't rinse it first. Yes it was very, very dirty/cloudy (couldn't see bottom) but I expected this. I added substrate, plants, then water mixed with the clarifying agent and turned on my bio-sponge filter. It took a total of about 45 minutes of filtration on high to attain a damn near crystal clear tank. Once I checked the temperature and water parameters, I gently added Oscar and his two pet Oto algae eaters. Oscar has been buzzing about, as much as a betta will, checking out his tank and seems relatively content. The two otos have darted around and settled into their manic cleaning mode.
I'll edit this in a few days just to make sure everything shakes out well. So far, very good.

Como Aquarium Fish Tank Blue Silicone Mini Sea Anemone Ornament
I love it! Please note, however, that the "small" is much smaller than it appears on the webpage, despite the fact that the size dimensions are included in the product description's details. Small is great for up to a 5G tank, but bigger than that, definately go for the medium, or large. And choose a couple vibrant colors. They are worth it, for the price, and as I said, the fish LOVE these little "anemone" ornaments.

This has got to be one of the best things I have ever gotten for my Bettas. I currently own two bettas and got this blue Anemone as well as the orange one for my other fish. My bettas love it! They both will play in them and swim through them repeatedly. One of my bettas actually sleeps in his every night. The silicone is sturdy and doesn't come off when in the water. I have had mine for 2 months now and they are still lasting. Well worth the price tag, highly recommend it.Read Best Reviews of Como Aquarium Fish Tank Blue Silicone Mini Sea Anemone Ornament Here
great way to set up something new into your tank. This is a cute little guy. the site really should tell you what size it is, as you may have limited size in your tank. PROS:Totally realistic! The silicone anemone appendages sway with the water and really trick the eye into believing it is alive.
Great hit of color in a tank. The blue is especially gorgeous, as it has little pops of red on the tips.
Easy to install and stays put. Does not float up to the top or any other such nonsense.
CONS:
While I was thrilled at this decoration when I first put it into my son's dragon/volcano-themed fish tank, I later grew irritated when after a few months it turned greenish-yellow on its appendages....uggggh!
I tried cleaning it, but to no avail. I think the dyes in the fish food discolored the silicone. Our tank runs pretty clear, thanks to the awesome AquaClear Power FilterAquaClear 70 Power Filter 110 V, UL Listed (Includes AquaClear 70 Carbon, AquaClear 70 Foam & AquaClear 70 BioMax, so cleanliness was not a factor.
Would I buy it again?
No. I paid too much for a decoration that just didn't last long enough.
For a cheaper price...maybe.
Actually, I am considering using silicone toys Puffer Ball 4 inch, 3 Tonecommonly used as party favors. They look EXACTLY like this anemone and are only a buck vs. the nearly ten dollars I paid for this short-lived anemone. My only issue is I am not sure if they are safe for fish.

Or rather they fail too. Installation was a breeze and it really makes the tank look great, unfortunately the suckers on the base do not hold for more than a couple days. Even with razor-blading the glass bottom (I have this mounted at the bottom of my tank facing upwards) and cleaning the bottom of the suckers it just doesn't hold. This is likely due to the added buoyancy from the air in the tubing but I wish they had used larger suckers to ensure the wand stays put over time. I'll likely replace the suckers or rig up some weight on the wand itself to keep it in place.
But for the money it is VERY difficult to beat.I use this as a lunar light, keeps my tank a little brighter during hours when the main lights aren't on, and overall is pretty cool. I've read some reviews of it not working well as an airstone but my tank has a biowheel on it and I'm not using it for aeration. looks cool for the price. I have it suctioned to the bottom of my glass top pointing down.

Two Little Fishies AquaStik Underwater Epoxy Putty Red Coralline 114g 4 oz.
Color isn't a big deal to me. It is available in grey or red. Neither one looks like coraline so don't expect it to match. The purple might not stick out as much from a distance but to a trained eye and reefer you will see either one just as much as the other. If it's a big deal I would maybe use a razor and cut some lines into it so it's not just a smooth surface holding two things together. It is also possible to push small rocks or bits of crushed coral into the epoxy to help conceal it a bit more as well if you feel like you want to do something like that. That would also help coralline maybe grow on it a little faster, but in the end everything turns purple in a reef tank so I don't bother or fuss with it too much.Love this adhesive! The best thing to adhere coral to rock in salt water tank. So much better than using superglue just to have it come unstuck a few days later.

This epoxy works very well and is great once it hardens. The color is not going to match red coralline perfectly put it is a nice change from the white. It does not stick well even if the surface is dried and only slightly damp so it takes some practice making that work.

Pondmaster 02910 Ultra Violet Light Pond Water Clarifier 10watt
The inlet/outlet barbs on this filter are supposedly sized to fit 3/4 inch tubing; however, oddly, the barbs are significantly smaller than they should be, so tubing goes on, hangs loosely, and then falls off if you move the unit around much.
In my experience with other pond products with barbs, barbs are designed to hold tubing quite snugly, without requiring the use of clamps (this is especially important if you have to open up the unit every month or so to do the recommended cleanings of the interior light cover, where clamps would be a major pain). There are no threads or any other way of securing tubing to this UV filter.
The issue of how to attach tubing to the unit caused a great deal of confusion for me when I first got the product. I took it to several local pond supply stores to see if they could help me figure out if I was doing something wrong. The pond supply folks were as puzzled as I was about why the barbs did not fit standard 3/4 inch tubing. We tried other sized tubing, but nothing fit properly.
I emailed the customer support people at Danner Manufacturing (the company that makes these filters). Their staff were entirely unhelpful. Eventually, the best they could manage in response to my request for instructions on how to attach the unit to tubing (and ultimately to my Pondmaster pump/filter unit), was to send me a sketch showing a UV filter attached to a pump (but no instructions or diagrams on how this was actually accomplished). This sketch was supposed to demonstrate that it was theoretically possible to attach the UV filter to other equipment. When I followed up with several emails asking them for details on -howto attach the tubing, I received a message that they were researching what types of adapters were needed, but then a week went by with no further communication from them despite an additional query from me. At that point, in frustration, I gave up on receiving any kind of customer support.
As the algae was continuing to build up in my pond and I was increasingly concerned for my fish, I decided to just try running the UV filter with the tubing loosely attached just to see if that would somehow be good enough. Lo and behold, when the UV filter is running, even if loosely connected to the pump via 3/4 inch tubing, a certain amount of suction occurs, allowing the tubing to stay connected (as long as you don't bump the UV filter or the tubing).
What this means is that, if you have a person to help you (holding the pump and any other attached equipment while you hold the UV filter and it's tubing), you can lay all of your equipment into the pond carefully, being sure nothing gets disconnected in the process, and then turn on the pump and UV filter. If everything stays connected, when you turn on the UV filter and pump, everything should stay connected -as long as you don't have big, heavy fish that like to nudge the tubing or any significant currents where your equipment is located.
Personally, I find this to be a tedious process (which will have to be repeated each time I clean the UV light cover and/or my filter), and I don't appreciate that there were no instructions about any of this included with the product. I also did not find Danner Manufacturing to be at all helpful in resolving this issue.
However, once I figured it out... the UV filter does do its job wonderfully! The pond is free of algae after about a week of run-time. I just wish I had known how to solve the installation issues and hadn't wasted so much time trying to figure this out. This is the 10 watt Supreme Pondmaster Submersible UV Clarifier, model 29101. When water is circulated through it, the water is exposed to ultraviolet light that is capable of killing both suspended algae and bacteria. I have used several of these units in both marine aquaria (outside the tank) and in my pond (in the water) and they have performed perfectly.
The unit contains a tubular UV bulb protected by a slightly larger quartz sleeve. Danner says that the design causes the water to flow through the unit in a circular manner but I have never cut one open to see how that might be accomplished.
Build quality is excellent and I have had no problems with leakage of water either into the interior quartz sleeve and UV tube or out onto the floor.
It is important to remember that the quartz sleeve will gradually become partially occluded by deposits on the outside surface. For best results, you should disassemble the clarifier periodically (monthly is about right) and remove and clean the sleeve. Disassembly is quick and easy but be careful with both the sleeve and the tube when you do it.
The clarifier works well but beware: Danner advertises that the 10-watt model will be adequate for ponds up to 1500 gallons. This is extremely optimistic. If you begin with a pond that is absolutely clean and algae free, the 10-watt model might keep it that way, if used in conjunction with a good filter. However, if you are installing the clarifier to deal with a pre-existing problem, you should probably not count on it working well for ponds over 500 gallons. My pond is 650 gallons and the 10-watt device is barely adequate. There is relatively little difference (about $30) in the cost of the 10-watt and 20-watt models and using more UV than you need doesn't harm anything and adds at most a few pennies to you electricity bill. If in doubt, go with the 20-watt model.
Also, the specification calls for a 700gph pump (1800gph for the 20-watt model). Do not think that you can improve performance by using a larger pump. You probably won't hurt the device but the water will pass through it too quickly for the UV to kill the nasties. A pump that is too small just reduces the speed with which the entire volume of the pond passes through the clarifier.
One last caution: DON'T LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE UV TUBE WHEN IT IS ILLUMINATED NO MATTER WHETHER IT IS INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE QUARTZ SLEEVE. YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR EYES IF YOU DO SO.

This U V light system works amazingly well. Simple to hook up and use and very effective, cleaned up our pond water even faster than I expected. Our neighbors that have fish ponds are still cleaning their foam/mesh filters at least once a day and their ponds are still green. Tropical Flakes - 6 Oz. Fish Food
Update 16 May 2013
I am using the product only for my small fish. I was correct in assuming the flakes would break up very quickly. I put a couple of oz in an empty container and the flakes quickly break up to a very small size. I would not plan on using this to feed anything but small fish. If that is your intention, you will be happy. I have not had any more issues with the water turning yellow, but I am using very small quantities now.

I bought this for my one year old Cane Corso Mastiff....this is his second tug-o-rope duck. The first one lasted approx 6 months until he puled out the rope part. It's his favorite toy and he carries it all over the house with him. I'd say it's fairly durable if you have a pet who's out of the aggressive chewing phase. Otherwise the outer cloth layer tears and the stuffing comes out....which seems like it would be a choking hazard for a small dog. Its size is appropriate for a large dog (my Mastiff's approx 100 lbs). The duck's body has a squeaker which he loves.I should have bought two of these.

My little Bichon LOVES this toy! She carries it all around the house with her, and sleeps with her head on it!! This is our second one the first had been so "loved" that it had been sewn together several times! Decided to get her a new one when the tail finally gave it up and came off! Not sure what she likes about this toy, but it is definitely her favorite over many others!!
