Eshopps PF-300 Overflow Box - Up to 75 gallons - 6 in. x 3 in. x 10 in.

Eshopps PF-300 Overflow Box - Up to 75 gallons - 6 in. x 3 in. x 10 in.The box works very well. The inner box does a decent job of skimming any particles off the surface and retains flow even after a power outage. There were a few things I wish had come in the package: a priming tube and assorted sized connectors for various sized flexible tubing outputs. The inner box is larger than I anticipated taking up a decent size chunk of real estate inside the tank. Overall it works very well though, it gets the job done.

Works well but seems to loose siphon over time

There could be a better way to start the siphon

Construction is very nice but the way the 2 boxes attach together is iffy.

Instructions are non existent.

great product good price do i need to say more! highly recommend. I would buy again if ever needed! thanks.

Cobalt Aquatics 5-Watt Mini-Therm Electronic Heaters for Aquarium

Cobalt Aquatics 5-Watt Mini-Therm Electronic Heaters for AquariumI like this little heater. It didn't have any reviews so I took a chance on it. A couple of the other slim or mini heaters tend to keep my betta bowls too warm.

The cobalt mini 5 watt is keeping my one gallon bowl at a steady 78 degrees. IT has been in service for 3 weeks. I live in Texas and my house's ambient temp in this time of year is about 71.

Its just an awesome little heater for glass and acrylic aquariums from one gallon to 5 gallon aquariums not recommended for 10 gallons and up, you might need something stronger than 5 watts.

This heater is perfect for a one gallon tank! I had a 7.5 watt heater that I had to keep unplugging because the water was getting too hot. With the 5 watt heater, no worries and no over heating. Temp stays at 78 to 82 degrees. Could not find anything like this heater at stores.

API High Range PH Test Kit 1 1/4 Fl Oz.

API High Range PH Test Kit 1 1/4 Fl Oz.This PH test works great. I tested my water with this and a Digital PH test and both were right on the dot.

The test is SUPER simple, you add 5 drops to 5ml of water, you then invert the tube a couple of times and then you hold it up to a color chart and your DONE. So easy!

I bought this pH test kit to make sure my fish was swimming in safe water. It was super easy to use and get results fast.

No complaints, but I have not used any other test kit yet so I have nothing to compare it to.

Impeller Assembly for Laguna PowerJet 1300 Electronic Fountain Pump, Laguna Original 3000 Pond Pump

Impeller Assembly for Laguna PowerJet 1300 Electronic Fountain Pump, Laguna Original 3000 Pond Pump Kit and the Water Garden Original 3000 Pond PumpWell, you can hardly complain about the product when you have no other options available to you :) Anyways, I have to replace the impeller about once a year and it is imperative that after you take the pump apart you clean it thoroughly before re-installing the new impeller otherwise, any debris that is left behind could shorten the lifespan significantly. I wish they would use a slightly harder more durable plastic on the actual blades of the impeller and the main shaft since that seems to be the part that brakes most often...until then, $20.00 a year to keep the pond up and running!

Several years ago I bought 2 Laguna 5 utility pumps for my fish ponds. They were amazingly inexpensive and did a bang-up job for many years. I recently moved and installed a new fishpond with a waterfall and attempted to use one of the old pumps. Sadly, it would not run for longer than 60 seconds and nothing I could do would fix it. When I tried to buy a new one, I quickly discovered they are no longer made, and an equivalent Laguna pump now cost over $200. While I was cursing Laguna for their greedy ways and desperately Googling for a reasonable replacement, one of my searches found this impeller assembly. While the description didn't actually list the Laguna 5, it did come up in the search and it looked like the old one. Considering how little it cost as compared to a whole new pump, I figured I'd take a shot. I'm happy to say that it worked like a champ. It's been happily pumping away for about 3 weeks now without a hitch.

I got this impeller 2 days faster than I expected and was exactly what I needed. I have saved money on new pumps by replacing this impeller when they wear or break from large debris.

Chemi-Pure Elite - 46.98 oz.

Chemi-Pure Elite - 46.98 oz.We have used Chemi-pure for over 10 years and it works better than just activated carbon MUCH better!

We have a 150 gal with eheim classic canister filter and we put it in the filter and it makes the water crystal clear and sparkle.

The fish are showing better color using this. Highly recommend it!

I placed it in my 125G tank (The box says its for 175-220G) and the next day the water was crystal clear. My fish are very healthy and I don't have any issues so far.

Buy Chemi-Pure Elite - 46.98 oz. Now

I decided to switch into elite and after a month my tank started to smell. This usually means i need to change my carbon again. I only have 50 gallon tank and this should be more then enough for 1 month.

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Bubbler Ornament - Talking Shark

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Bubbler Ornament - Talking SharkThis is a must for aquariums. Even if you don't have one this is great for a decoration for anywhere in the home a nice addition for shark lovers. The advertising picture is no justice to the item. It is heavy and very well made. Its worth more than the price paid. Get this one. A big thumbs up.

These shark ornaments are very cute but I misread and wanted Christmas tree ornaments. I was going to return the two I purchased but, after checking the process of returning them, I decided not to because I would have had more invested in postage than their original cost. Am not sure what I am going to do with them....give them to Salvation Army I guess so maybe somebody can enjoy them as we do not have aquariums.

Fluval Edge 25W Compact Heater

Fluval Edge 25W Compact HeaterI bought this heater for my 5 gallon planted shrimp tank. It fits perfectly into the tank, hides well in a corner (it is black, straight and designed to fit into a corner) and hands-free. No adjustments necessary and keeps my tank temperature well within acceptable range. Has a dim red light that is only visible when tank light is off. I like it that it is completely submersible and unobtrusive. Many of my friends have been impressed with its sleek style and the fact that it really doesn't look like a heater. If I felt like hiding it even more I could put it near the bottom of the tank, but I choose to leave it upright. My shrimp like to hang out on the top of it near the water's surface.

For the price, you won't find a better submersible heater for a small tank. Many would like to be able to adjust the temperature on the heater, but I have never had a problem with it. The suction cups will change color, graying over time, but they stick well and I haven't had any trouble with it as I have with other heaters.

This gets 4 stars because there is no thermostat; otherwise this is a 5-star heater.

BUY THIS ON AMAZON!!! Aquarium stores have to mark it up considerably.

***UPDATE December 2011*** The heater stopped heating my tiny tank. As this was a serious problem for my warm-loving shrimp, I went to Petco and bought a heater with an adjustable thermostat and I hate to say it, but I like the cheap adjustable one better. I won't be buying another one of these heaters. I reduced the rating to reflect the fact that my heater did not last more than eight weeks.

The heater is designed to only adjust the aquarium temp no more than 7 degrees higher than the ambient air temp. This is stated plainly in the instructions. Works perfect on my 6 gallon Fluval tank. It is keeping the tank temp at 76 steady. We keep the thermostat in our house at 70. Very nice looking heater, blends in with the tank background perfectly.

Keeps the 5 gallon chi between 72-74. But I don't think my Betta minds. I've had the heater since December 2011

I ordered this along with my 6 gallon fluval tank, and I take it out of the box and try to set it up, one this is the top suction cup was warped so it would not stick on properly, second the heater did not even turn on when I plugged it in, no light or heat. It was a complete waste of money. I have been trying to contact fluval customer support and they don't help me at all. Extremely dissatisfied. Every heater should be tested before they package it.

Want Fluval Edge 25W Compact Heater Discount?

Purchased for a 6 gallon fluval edge and have had for approximately 3 months. Liked the small size, look, and the fact that it was completely submersible.

It has been unable to maintain a temp over 74 with an air temp between 68 and 70. I added a digital air/water thermometer from my saltwater tank in addition to the cheap stick on thermometer on the glass to see if either wasn't working properly. I rarely see it running (based on the LED) and it seems most days the temp differential is between 2-4 degrees. I don't know if mine was bad or if it's just underpowered. Purchased a new 50w submersible/adjustable just now to see if I can actually get closer to 78.

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Tubing 4004943 3m/9.8ft

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Tubing 4004943 3m/9.8ftOEM Eheim 494 tubing with original Eheim package. It's fit perfectly with all pipes and will buy from PetCareRX again if needed.

I'v relied on eheim products for over 30 years. Their products are second to none regarding quality, longevity and performance. Extra tubing is one of those affordable essentials that any serious Aquarist should keep on hand as it comes in handy for a multitude of purposes.

You can extend the run of tubing from your filters if need be, add extensions to other other products and perhaps the most important and valuable benefit is that it's opaque and easy to see when your tubin mucks up with gunk. Having extra tubing on hand allows you to replace the old tubing with brand new tubing and hault the entry of pathogens and muck into your tank or tanks.

This is an excellent price for 10 feet of eheim OEM tubing just make sure you're ordring the right size.

Soft-E Fabric Collar Size 3

Soft-E Fabric Collar Size 3our dog has to wear an e-collar 24hrs a day because he compulsively chews on his feet if he can get to them. so far we'd been using the blue paper collars from the vet at about $26 a pop. unfortunately they fall apart after a couple of weeks from him scratching at them and we find little blue pieces everywhere in the house.

i ordered this collar in the hopes that it would do the trick since it's much cheaper than the other kind i was wary at first because there is no sizing listed and you can't tell what they're made of.

when the collar arrived i was very pleased. so far it's been great! i ordered size 3 which is the exact same as the Medium 6.5" ones from the vet. it's very soft and has yet to fall apart from scratching and it's so much quieter when he does scratch at it. we'll see how it holds up after the first time i wash it but so far so good and well worth the price!

the only things i would change about this are:

the tie around the neck is made of a shiny thread and therefore doesn't stay tied unless you double-knot it, not very user friendly. something more along the lines of a shoelace material would be easier to get off and on

this ships from PetCareRX and since ordering this i have received many phone calls from them at all times of day and it's highly irritating

post sizing in the product description so you know what to order since you have to pay for shipping

I was very disappointed with how this worked. The cone easily folded over and served absolutely no purpose. Not to mention the cone was short and way too open. I am only writing this to warn people from buying it. I wish someone told me not to waste my money on this, buy a different collar. It seriously sucked!

Tetra Pond Sticks

Tetra 16484 Pond Sticks Floating Fish Food, 3-3/4-PoundI find that not only my goldfish love them, so does my huge 20 inch long Algae Eater. Comes up immediately and eats the sticks when the food is thrown in the pond. Never cared for anything else. Price is good for the quantity that I don't need to go shopping as often.

I've used Tetra Floating Pond Sticks for several years and my pond fish are thriving. I ordered via Amazon.com and it was a good experience. The product is well-packed with the 11 pounds of food separated into two airtight bags. Quality of the food is good, packaging is good and the shipment was quick. We like the floating food sticks rather than the heavier pellets as the sticks float for several minutes so the fish come up to the surface to feed and we can watch them. I will order this product again.

After trying many different types of food for my koi, i have found that nothing quite measures up. The koi love it and it's actually very inexpensive. I always buy the biggest container available.

Read Best Reviews of Tetra Pond Sticks Here

I use this to provide a supplimental food to the goldfish in my two "natural" ponds, especially in the early spring and early winter when the ice isn't covering the whole pond and the fish aren't dug-in for the winter yet but natural food seems a bit lean.

I don't normally feed them and at first they didn't know what it was. The fish were feeders I bought at the pet store several years ago. Now they are all 8 12" in length. I wanted something to use as a treat on occasion when I stop by the pond in chilly weather and the fish are hanging around "sunning" themselves. The fish like it and the pellets float at the top for a long time, giving them opportunity to find it before it sinks into the muddy bottom.

I live a very long way from any stores and Amazon is my favorite source for stuff like this -and for everything else for that matter. Great prices, great shipping from UPS, no crowds, great customer service, great selection, I could go on and on here -what did I do before Amazon!

Fluval EDGE Algae Magnet

Fluval EDGE Algae MagnetThe built quality is nice and it's ergonomic, but if it doesn't do what it's designed to do well all of that is for not. That's the case with this magnet cleaner. Let me count the ways it doesn't work for me:

Weak magnet, if the magnet is not strong it will constantly fall off and not be effective in cleaning the glass

The string is annoying and will only lead to problems keeping it on there (I removed it on my unit after trying it on)

Just doesn't clean well mainly because it keeps falling off when swiping it across the glass (did I already say weak magnet?)

I suggest a Mag Float, that magnet is MUCH stronger and no I don't work for them or paid by them. Just letting you know what works in my two tanks. I didn't bother returning this because I already dumped the package and the price wasn't high so it wasn't worth my time to do that.

To end on a positive note, the inside surface area is larger and the outside handle is easy to hold...but like I said...it also has to work well for what it is designed for. Too bad, I wanted to like it, but can't recommend this.

this magnet is nice for cleaning but does not float so if it separates it falls to the bottom. It comes with a string to fish it out but if you have anything in your tank then it will get tangled in that. Also if you were keeping it in the tank like is suggested, the string would get pretty nasty since it is like a piece of heavy duty thread. I won't be using this at all...I will be going back to the store and getting a new one that floats

Buy Fluval EDGE Algae Magnet Now

Switched to a magfloat after having this 3 days with my edge. Works great until it hits gravel. Then you are just asking for scratches. Fortunately I knew this and switched. In the edge it's just too hard to go from edge to edge to edge over and over. Even an expert loses it to flow eventually. I have a FOWLR setup. Once it his sand *poof* it would need cleaned in the sink before being placed back in the tank. The string collects algae. It does however look great and that is why it gets 2 stars.

Read Best Reviews of Fluval EDGE Algae Magnet Here

This will help to get some little annoying spots off of the interior of your tank, but there are too many design flaws for it to be worth the money or time to use. If you get one grain of sand caught on the cleaning surface (which you will, because it tends to fall down to the bottom of your tank, especially when rounding corners), you will proceed to scratch up the inside of your tank. The included string is perhaps the poorest quality I have ever seen. It deteriorates in water. I would say the only plus is that it is an aesthetically pleasing design, but it doesn't work. If anything it damaged my tank.

Fluval Edge Aquarium with LED Light, White

Fluval Edge 6-Gallon Aquarium with 21-LED Light, BlackThere are plenty of detailed reviews on the original Fluval Edge. This one, with the 21 LED lighting is the newer model, so when I decided to make my purchase I went with this one, even though it's several dollars more. Personally, from all the comments regarding the lighting issues on the previous model I wouldn't hesitate spending the extra money and opt for this newer model. In reading the other reviews, there isn't much that I can add that hasn't already been said. However, these are the things that I think are major pros and cons:

Biggest Pros: The lighting expands throughout the tank from edge to edge, not just in the center. Better design if you're keeping live plants. Plus, the lights don't get warm at all.

The blue night-lighting is a very nice feature. I use this setting about an hour before I go to bed and it's really relaxing to watch the fish swim in the blue light.

The tank itself is the coolest design I've ever seen. It is extremely impressive to view, and gives the feel of everything being almost weightless. Very soothing.

Biggest Cons:

As everyone has stated before, the opening is small, but I can reach my hand inside from corner to corner without any trouble. Something to think about, though: I bought the bamboo wall accessory and it made the opening even smaller, as it sits right below it. I ended up removing mine and stuck with live plant and rock decorations. It looks just as nice that way, and I have more room to get into the aquarium when needed.

If you want to do any cleaning or need to stick your hand into the aquarium for ANY reason, you MUST remove some of the water first. Otherwise it will spill out of the opening and all over the place.

Bottom line: if you are looking for a tank that is visually stunning to look at and want something completely unusual, you won't be disappointed IF you can live with the few quirks this tank has. If you like rearranging your tank or need to get in and out of it quickly, you may find this more annoying than its worth. I've kept tanks on and off for over 15 years and for me, the beauty of it outweighs what some people would call a nuisance.

I wanted to test the Fluval Edge 46lt/12gl for a few months before jumping in to write about it. When I first received the tank and upon inspection, I found that the column did not have the two clips that attach to the glass tank. Hagen was nice to send me a replacement column but still it was a hassle to disassemble the lighting unit in order to change the correct part.

The first thing that anyone buying this tank must understand is that they are trading usability and functionality for aesthetics. I found myself challenged to make up for the inconvenience of having a small 5"x7" opening where all interaction with the outside world must "fit in". These are the areas that I found the most challenging and dysfunctional about this tank:

FILTRATION:

The form is such that the tank is exactly the same length and width as the smaller 23lt/6gl Fluval Edge only that it is twice it's height. Still this version of the Fluval Edge uses the same HOB Filter as it's smaller counterpart. If the effectiveness of the filter in the 6gl version was good, now it is half as good. I was able to corroborate this fact when I started to develop algae problems in my tank. When I invited a marine biologist/experienced aquarist friend to see my aquarium, the first observation he made was how stagnant and poorly oxygenated the water was towards the bottom half of the tank. As we all know, this lack of aeration and movement is a major cause of poor water quality and algae development. The solutions I found were to replace the HOB filter with an external unit and to add a micro pump like the Koralia 240 Hydor Koralia Nano 240 Aquarium Circulation Pump, 240 gph which worked well. I also tried a Jardin filter sponge with good results Jardin Fish Aquarium Mini Cylinder Soft Sponge Water Filter, Black. Perhaps if the tank would have been longer or wider as opposed to only taller, the opening could have been larger enabling the option of a larger, more powerful HOB filter.

LIGHTS:

Even with the LED improvement, the lighting unit that comes with the tank is only good enough for non-planted tanks or low-light plants such as anubias or ferns. Any other plants requiring medium or high lighting would likely suffer. Problems associated with the low lighting are exacerbated by the poor placement of the lighting unit which is confined to the 5"x7" opening towards the middle back of the tank. Any plants in the aquarium would fare better only if placed directly below this 5"x 7" area. Another limiting factor is that the lighting unit needs to be turned off and raised up in order to access the tank for maintenance. Unless the tank is located next to a bright window (an unlikely scenario) you will basically find yourself performing maintenance in the dark. The addition of an external lighting unit is almost a necessity, even more so in a planted tank. I found a unit called the Padlite by Truelumen TrueLumen Padlite TrueLumen Aquatic LED Strips which worked quite well but it was not cheap.

MAINTENANCE

A major hassle in all respects. For a planted aquarium, trimming plants is almost a nightmare. You are limited by the angles and require large curved scissors. Also all the cuttings accumulate on the top glass and it is quite difficult to clean them up completely. I found that using a sponge soaked in aquarium water helped. A floater magnet cleaner Mag Float Floating Magnet Aquarium Cleaner is a good idea in order to eliminate bubbles and move the accumulated debris/cuttings off the top glass. However I do not recommend this product to clean the glass as the inside magnet/bristles are very rough and will invite any particles floating in the water that will scratch your glass. Catching fish is quite challenging. I have large rocks so imagine trying to catch a pygmy cory through the 5"x7" opening with a fluval edge net?! I resolved, basically, that any fish or invertebrates that go inside the tank stay in the tank forever.

That said, I agree with almost all reviewers here that the tank looks amazing and the fact that all electrical cords and tubing can be hidden inside the back column is a blessing. At least we get a little something in exchange for all the pain.

Buy Fluval Edge Aquarium with LED Light, White Now

I've owned Fluval products for years including some large aquariums like the Osaka, and I have to admit I'm a fan. I received the Fluval edge about a week ago and I immediately set it up for my 5 black phantom tetras. At times, I felt like I was setting up a ship in a bottle; it can be a little tight getting your arm in the opening, but overall it wasn't a frustrating venture. No problems with the power filter; I enjoy the easy to access flow adjuster. I decided to add a fluval water polishing pad to the top of the filter media compartment for a little extra shine. I'm just now noticing the nitrite levels starting to rise; so, that's a good sign. I was a bit concerned with the oxygen level issue considering that the actual surface area is only about 5"x 7"; I placed a bubble wand on the tank floor right below the opening. The bubble wand added a nice effect to the tank as well as a visual screen for the power filter intake tube and the heater on the back wall. So far, I have not noticed any fish "panting for air" or any surface breathing. You have to really level the tank if you want to avoid large amounts of air pockets on the top; I have small bubbles form on the top which I'm positive are from my bubble wand, but nothing that can't be remedied by a little manipulation by my small magnet cleaner. I really enjoy the LED lighting; it illuminates the entire tank so well. I also enjoy the moonlight setting. The one water change I did was not that bad, I had to get a gravel vacuum that was much smaller than the one I use just to be able to get the distant corners, but overall not a difficult thing. Overall, I'm enjoying my purchase, and I'm pretty sure my tetra are also.

Amazon sent 3 of them to me and each one arrived damaged. Ouch... Factory box is poorly designed and simply can't offer enough protection. I had to purchase the tank at my local store. Of course Amazon issued me a credit no question asked. So good luck getting yours without a damage. Hope you will.

When you receive your tank, don't get too excited and spontaneously unpack it. Inspect it first! You can easily look inside and check the glass without removing it from the box. Now, if you unpack it first and find any damage later, good luck putting it all back together. Took me long time and it was very irritating.

The tank itself is great. I already own original 6 gallon Fluval Edge and had been hoping for a larger model for a long time.

New tank offers double the capacity (12 gallons) and new improved light. Instead of two halogen bulbs that would last just few weeks, now you get a nice setup of white LEDs with a night mode. Night mode is actually great. Three, dark blue LEDs offer pleasant, ambient light that is non aggressive. You can leave it on for the night.

Assembling is super easy and takes no time. You should be done in just few minutes. I just don't understand how some people find it confusing and challenging.

Light switch is from hell. Hard to access (you must remove the top cover). Once you get there, switching it ON/OFF/NightMode is a pure exercise in patience. Don't give up, it will eventually work. Oh, there is one trap...the light assembly is attached to the power supply via somehow hidden connector inside the rear post where the filter and power cables are located. Double check the connection.

Because of the design of the tank plan ahead of time where you want your plants and decorations. Once the tank is full, you will need to remove some water to put your arm in and make changes.

The tank looks great! It is elegant and classy. I love the clean, simple lines. I used it to replace my 16 gallons conventional tank with an ugly traditional hood. My only regret I waited for too long to switch.

The price is great. You get the glass, light, hood, filter with the media and even water treatment chemicals. All put together it is a nice deal. So if you decide getting one Enjoy!

Want Fluval Edge Aquarium with LED Light, White Discount?

I wanted a aquarium, so searched around online and saw this on YouTube ..Bought the book 'Aquariums for Dummies' and ordered my 12 gallon Fluval Edge in black from Petco and all my other supplies from Dr. Foster and Smith. Used 'EcoComplete Black Substrate' and 'Caribsea Sunset Gold Substrate Sand' but really one bag is more than plenty! I live in a rural area so bought live plants from liveaquaria and they were excellant, healthy, lush and in winter too! Aquarium came by FED Ex Freight. Got my tank on Monday and plants Tues. and Substrates, plus Fluval Edge Accessories> heater, algae magnet, digital thermometer on Wed. and did set up Wed. It took 4 hours to fill (using a large measuring cup) and do planting. It's a deep tank and tricky to stick arm in but not a big deal My substrate is 4''deep(not sure if this is too deep) but looks nice with the color and texture contrast. Used a wood dowel to push in some of my plants. Added a large fake piece of driftwood with java ferns tied on it. The filter was awesome and super quite, it cleared a very murky water in less than 3 hours. I will let it cycle without fish for a couple of weeks ,then decide on fish.. Overall is a lovely tank, easy to set up, super quite, goes well with my decor and if I had more room would buy a second one! Also I did add a small 5x4 piece of shelf foam to rest aquarium on base, doubt it was needed but don't want it to slide on the smooth plastic base. Will also add a timer to the lights.

Aqueon AQE17102 Evolve Desk Top Aquariums Tank, 8-Gallon

Aqueon AQE17102 Evolve Desk Top Aquariums Tank, 8-GallonHello Everyone,

I purchased the Evolve 8 a few weeks ago because the design is much more aesthetically pleasing compared to most of the nano-tanks out there. I really like how the sump and filter pad is hidden behind the tank. However, I did notice that the sump is INCREDIBLY LOUD!!! However, I found a very easy fix for this that I wanted to share with everyone. If you are incredibly OCD like me and don't like the loud buzzing this tank makes, follow the instructions below to eliminate the pump sound.

Step 1

Go to Lowes and buy the pond pump filter below (I picked it up for under $12.00):

Smart Pond Water Garden Replacement FilterStep 2

Pull the sump out of your tank and remove the suction cups on the bottom

Step 3

Take the black foam piece out of the Garden Replacement filter and wrap it all around the sump. (You can use the blue piece instead, but the black one will let more water into the sump)

Step 4

Place the now foam covered sump back into its compartment in the Evolve tank. The sump may start making some noises at first, when it starts to prime itself, but after a few seconds the buzzing should go away and you'll be left with a dramatically more tolerable low level humming noise (about the same as you'd experience on a normal canister or cascade filter).

Step 5

Enjoy your beautiful AND QUIET Aqueon Evolve nano tank!!!!

I'm sure this technique will work on all of the Aqueon models. You can always trim off some of the black foam to get it to fit into the smaller compartments in the Aqueon Evolve 4 and 2. The Garden Replacement Filter is HUGE compared to the sump so don't worry if you make a mistake. You'll have a lot of material to work with. Hope this helps!

I've just set up my Aqueon Evolve 8 on my desk in my office, and I am thrilled with it so far. It is somewhat less than 8 gallons, but there is ample room for 6-7 small fish. I have read several complaints about the pump being noisy, but mine makes almost no sound at all just a low hum that is easily ignored in an office environment. I love that all the "ugly" parts, like the filter and pump, are hidden in the black compartment so it looks really nice on my desk. There was also ample room to add a heater so I can keep tropical fish. My only complaint is that the lid doesn't sit very securely on the top of the tank; it is easy to knock in if you are messing with it much, but that is only a minor problem. I definitely recommend the Aqueon Evolve 8 to anyone looking for a small and attractive aquarium.

1. as many have stated, 8 gallons it is not, calculations put it at 5 usable. Inside tank dimensions are: W 11 3/8, D 8 3/4, H 11 5/8

2. as many have stated, but to the contrary, mine (the stock pump) is NOT loud, it is quite quiet. The bubbler is 10 times louder. The only thing I can think of is if people are positioning the pump touching a wall, then the vibrations may get amplified. Mine is in the center on the bottom.

3. * does not include heater or bubbler. BTW, the pump, heater, and bubbler fit in that sump area quite nicely (ie snug, but doable)

4. It's a good looking little unit. Once I'm moved into my new place I will be purchasing another for a small saltwater tank :)

**Edit: so after 6 months or so the pump did end up getting LOUD, real loud, tiny machine gun loud. Replaced it with Ehiem 300. The output diameter is bigger, but it was an easy fix, the stock hose size fits snug into the hose that comes off the new pump (hose bought at hardware store). I was worried about to much flow (currently housing a beta) so I drilled a small hole in the side of the hose to relieve some pressure, which just feeds back into the sump area. Still a great tank, working on creating space for another one.

I just put it together and it seems like a nice aquarium kit. It includes the light, air pump, and filter. No heater is included, but the instructions advise buying the Aqueon miniheater which has suction cups and can be put in the back box, along with the submersible pump, which also has suction cups.

I'm unsure if the filter will be adequate, since it's just powered by the air pump flowing water through the filter cartridge. I'll add to this review if there's a problem.

The instructions for assembling the filter apparatus were inadequate, but it wasn't difficult to figure out.

The kit also included a small fish food sample and some water conditioner.

***

August 14, 2012. The light seems to have dimmed somewhat over time.

Also, I bought the recommended Aqueon miniheater, but I think it's better for a 10 gallon tank. It kept raising the temperature to 84 degrees F, which is a bit higher than the recommended temperature range for tropical freshwater fish.

Another problem is that the tank warped a bit after water was in it for a while. The lid no longer snap fits on it.

***

October 26. Part of the LED light went dark and part started flickering. Had to switch the light.

***

November 12. The company replaced the lamp for me at no cost, including shipping.

Want Aqueon AQE17102 Evolve Desk Top Aquariums Tank, 8-Gallon Discount?

I chose this tank since I prefer acrylic tanks over glass. Easier to maintain!

The good:

The size

The design is nice

Despite terrible instructions, the tank was relatively easy to set up

Lots of room to put a heater (in the back slot by the pump)

Everything is going well so far

The bad:

The pump is crazy noisy. Lucky to those who didn't get one that is...

The force of the pump is WAY to much. I watched a video that suggested drilling holes in the line to the pump to slow down the blast that was bullying my poor betta around. It worked very well!

The instruction didn't tell you were to put stuff, what comes in the box... nothing. It gave me more tips on a successful tank then the one I was trying to set up.

Last, but surely not lest, the lid... it slides off and goes in the water way to often.

I still give this tank four stars. It is nice and works well, there is just a few bothersome points for me personally. I felt annoyed that every time I tried to adjust the pump I lost another suction cup, which could be the leading reason why it is so noisy. I can't get my hand down the back all the way to the bottom to get them out.

I would recommend this tank to someone who is not going to get as frustrated by the "small stuff" as I did :)

Aquatop CF500UV 5-Stage Canister Filter with UV 9W, 525 gph

Aquatop CF500UV 5-Stage Canister Filter with UV 9W, 525 gphHaving been keeping fish for 40 years, I grow more passionate about the hobby as time marches on. I also have become much more critical of the overwhelming sub par equipment that continues to flood the market.

A long time eheim fan, I've used their filters almost exclusively for thirty plus years and will always consider them the finest made aquarium filters in the world. That said, it was with some trepidation I ordered the Aquatop 500. I had read good reviews on the fish forums and decided to give this unit a shot.

Aquatops are made by SunSun one of the largest filter manufactures in the world. Aside from minor cosmetic differences this is the exact same filter as Reaction, Grech, SunSun, The Marineland C series and others. Although Aquatop is relatively new to the US SunSun has been making filtration systems since 1985 and I would encourage anyone to visit their web site.

Regarding the Aquatop 500 I was impressed from the get go. This is one powerful filter that provides more bang for your buck than most others in this price range. Quality touches include 3/4 inch clear green non kink hose. Secure lock down brackets for the power head, a very good quick stop for leak free disconnects when you want to add media or clean the filter, a 9 Watt Quartz tube encased integrated UV which you can turn on and off from the filter head.

9 watts of UV is is pretty close to being useless above 40 gallons. Quartz covers for UV bulbs aren't cheap the average price for a Quartz replacement tube on a 9 watt UV bulb is around $50-60. Because UV bulbs are expensive as well and usually need to be replaced every 6 months or so. The option to turn your UV on and off right from the filter head will extend the life of the bulb and never use UV on a tank that isn't fully cycled.

The filter holds a massive amount of media the five baskets are large and deep, with expandable handles so adding the media of your choice is easy as pie.

QUICK SPECS:

4+1 Stage filtration system

Capable of Mechanical, Biological, and Chemical Filtration

White enclosure

525 gals/hr (Non Certified w/media expect a loss of 30-50%)

Suitable for tanks up to 175 gal. ( This the the claim I wouldn't use this as a stand alone filter for over a 55 Gallon)

AC 110V

55 Watts

9 Watt UV Sterilizer

5ft 2in power cord with ground

Works for both fresh and saltwater tanks

18 pounds

Dimensions: 12" x 11" x 18"

Vinyl Hose Inner Diameter (ID): 3/4"

Self Priming

** Self priming filters are rarely effortless. This one is no exception and a real bear to Prime. The trick to priming these filters is not to pump the priming mechanism as the manual suggests but rather hold it down for three five minutes, release and let gravity do it's thing**

The output is strong at first. But I found the combination of water bypass and a subpar motor to slow the efficency down significantly in a very short time. I have been running a few of these and they all ended up back flushing junk into the tank. The key to avoiding this is frequent cleaning but that becomes a hasssle.

I'm often skeptical of Flow Rates unless they're certified it's all marketing jargon Consider the AquaClear 110 HOB filter it's been touting a 500 GPH since I was a kid from that tiny little motor that fits in the palm of your hand.

An eheim 1200XL with it's massive motor head is certified at 450 GPH. This is because there's no regulation hence, comapnies are free to make any claim they like. What really counts here is the "Power" of the motor that drives the pump, you can put the engine from a VW Bug into the body of a Porche but you can't expect the same perfomance.

In a very real way that's the problem with these filters, they're powerful at first but weaken very fast. Add a flimsy plastic impeller and impeller assembly as opposed to ceramic and that once strong out put becomes a weak stream. But then if Aquatop had SunSun spec in these ugrades you wouldn't be at this price point not by a long shot.

As for noise the filter is virtually silent , no hum no buzzing.

Please note the filter does not come with media. It does however, come with 5 coarse pre cut foam inserts and two ultra fine foam inserts. The ability to add five layers of filtering meadia makes this unit ideal for keeping Messy fish like Fancy Ornamental Goldfish, Oscars, Large Cichlids like Texas Reds, Midas and Flowerhorns or Arrowana and so on.

This a very decent filter for the price. Is it comparable in build quality and performanc to a Fluval FX5 or an eheim? of course not. But if you need a filter at this price point you'll be hard pressed to find a better value.

If you can stretch your budget you'll make out better in the long run with other brands but each case is different and the filter will suite your needs. Most filters offer at least 3 year warrantee you get 180 days with Aquatop. An odd number to use and weak very short term protection. I have found through personal experiance that customer support is nill to none and restricted to email only. A major drawback when problems pop up.

If you're on the fence about buying one my recommendation would be to go ahead and give it a try just understand that these filters come with some limitations that may be are hard for some to get around.

After reading product reviews from several different brands of canister filters, I was skeptical to try any of them. I decided on this Aquatop CF500UV canister filter. I have a 55 gallon tank with 1 goldfish 10 inches long, 5 goldfish ranging between 4-6 inches long, 2 bala sharks 4 inches long, 3 neon tetras, 1 pleco 13 inches long and 1 pleco 5 inches long......my tank is overstocked to say the least! Having the majority being big goldfish, you can imagine what my water quality was like.

I was running a 60 gal power filter w/standard filtration media, a 30 gal power filter with just ammonia reducing chips, a current maker, an air strip, and a heater. I've done water changes after water changes, and when that didnt control my water issues, I spent about $200.00 in additives which was only a bandaid on the fact that I have too many dirty fish crowded in the tank, nothing could keep up. My water tests came back consistently ridiculous, and its a wonder how the fish have even survived thus far.

I ordered this canister filter on Thursday afternoon and it was at my gate on Friday morning (didnt pay any expedited shipping). It even got here sooner than the other items I ordered through Amazon Prime at the same time, and you know how crazy fast those things arrive. I set it aside and planned to dive into it the following week to give myself time to research exactly how to do it since I knew I wouldnt be getting any help from the guys on this one.

Went to feed my fish Monday morning only to find the main filter had burned out sometime overnight and the water was even yuckier than ever. So... here we go I had no choice but to get this canister filter up and running THAT DAY! A little daunting at first, seeing all the parts & pieces, I read the instructions about 12 times and then had it figured out...all except the order in which to fill with media/stack the 4 huge trays inside to handle my specific water problems. I googled Aquatop to get their phone number, called them and they were more than happy to talk me through it and welcomed a call-back should I need any further assistance in assembling it. I did however, have some difficulty in priming the unit. I spent 1 1/2 hours pumping the primer button before I figured out that I could actually fill the canister 3/4 full of water then use the remaining air inside of it to actually create the suction. They warn to NOT fill the canister with water, which is true dont fill it all the way up, but filling it 3/4 of the way will save atleast an hour in pushing the button, as well as an interesting looking dot patterned bruise from having to use my forearm to push after so long. I DONT consider this a flaw in any way of the unit, more like my inexperience costing me a lot of time. After all, they did say I could call them back for tips if I had trouble priming, I just didnt want to have to juggle a phone and try to prime at the same time since I didnt have any help at home.

It comes with 4 trays inside this model, I filled my trays like this, starting from the bottom going upwards:

BOTTOM TRAY: The blue sponge it comes with at the bottom of tray and the white filter it comes with on top of that

SECOND FROM THE BOTTOM: White filter it comes with on bottom of tray, then filled this one up with rinsed carbon

THIRD FROM THE BOTTOM: White filter it comes with on bottom of tray, then filled this one up with Ammonia Remover chips (used the whole 48oz carton) You may not need this media for your situation, but I sure did.

TOP TRAY: White filter it comes with on bottom of tray, Bio-balls and ceramic rings on top. I only had 50 bio-balls which wasnt enough, Aquatop recommends ceramic rings so I filled the rest with ceramic rings (OK to mix them).

PUT TRAY COVER ON THE TOP TRAY, THEN ITS READY FOR THE CANISTER LID.....SUPER EASY & CUSTOMIZABLE

Everything done, filter running so quietly I have to lean over the unit to hear it run. Water improvement within the hour, very noticeable improvement after 4 hours and by the next morning my water is CRYSTAL CLEAR!!! Its amazing, I have never seen the water this clean since we first started the tank over a year ago. I never write reviews, but after the miracle this canister filter just performed for me, I felt I had to let others know. Especially if you have goldfish, and if you have the ammonia and nitrate problem or overall BAD water quality problem like me, this really will be the answer to your troubles. Best of all, its VERY affordable, I couldnt believe how inexpensive this unit was at $129.99. Even though I only have 55 gal, it actually has the load of atleast a 100+ gal tank right now, and these fish are still growing fast. Someday if I do manage to get a bigger tank to accomodate all these fish, I know this filter can handle it. Its rated for 175 gallon tank. I'm thinking I might even get a thank you note from my fish :) THANK YOU AQUATOP!!

I bought this filter to replace my old Eheim 2217. I have a friend that uses these so I knew what I was getting.

The filter works great. It's huge, powerful and very quiet. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with enough bio media. I added some media of my own, hooked it up and couldn't be happier.

For the price, you can't go wrong with this thing. Just make sure you are prepared to add some bio media. Pot scrubbers from the dollar store work just fine. :)

I am new to the hobby of keeping aquariums. After much research through websites like plantedtank and aquarium central I decided upon buying this canister filter. I wanted the bigger version although the smaller ones are also great for smaller tanks I hear. I wanted a good quality filter, that has a decent track record of longevity, ease of use, and won't break the bank. Many users on other aquarium enthusiast based sites have had these filters for almost 5 years now running strong, although under different names for this product which was originally called SunSun, then Perfect, then Grech, and the final incarnation to stay is Aquatop. That was a decent enough track record to me to order this filter despite how leery I was about all the product name changes.

One thing to mention from the get go. TruAqua and Amazon are shipping out "pre-tested" units I think. They come with water in the unit and some black crud sometimes. I personally do not like this as I want everything as sterile as possible when I receive a product like this. I am not sure of the tank conditions they are testing this unit on before shipping it to me. Which means if you order an Aquatop unit now be prepared for it to be wet and parts used. I contacted Amazon about this and was told they would try to fix this pretesting every unit before shipping.

As for the unit itself it is well made. It comes with some filter floss media and some blue open foam for one tray, but it won't be enough. You will need to purchase your own media to put into the trays. I suggest going to your local dollar store and picking up some plastic pot scrubbers. You'll get about 6 for a dollar. Buy 4 packages and fill one of the media baskets with pot scrubbers. You'll have to set the scrubbers on their sides to stack them all in one basket. So put the blue foam with a white filter floss in the bottom tray. For the second tray up fill that one with the pot scrubbers. For the third tray up I suggest buying some of the sintered or ceramic bio media. I picked up 3 boxes of Fluvals Biomax ceramic media. Fill a tray full of this. Last tray I bought some generic chemical media mix. It contains both activated carbon and zeolite chips. Buy some panty hose, stick the carbon and zeolite chips in the panty hose and fill the top basket full. Stick one more filter floss pad at the very top and you are done. If you need more mechanical filtration instead of the chemical filtration I would use the 100% poly cushion filler sold at walmart. You can get a big sheet that you can cut down to size for a few bucks there. Just make sure all mechanical filtration is done before the biological filtration. Except one very top filter floss which is optional.

The only downsides to this unit are the thin plastic on the input/output valves and the pieces at the other end of the hose. So be careful. Use some vaseline or a pure 100% silicon based lubricant to lube everything down. Boil some water and insert the end of the hose into the water for about 15 seconds or so. This will make it much easier to slip the hose over the barbs.

Besides the pre-testing, my only other gripe is the spray bar. It's junk. Easy to crack and a pain to install. I might be creating my own from PVC pipe in the future. I am currently using the spray bar setup that came with this unit, but it is very thin plastic. The little elbow bend pieces MUST be used, so it makes placing the bar exactly where and how I want a pain.

For $120 you get a nice big unit with plenty of room for the media baskets. The pump seems to be great. It is easy to use, silent, and most easy to setup (minus to spray bar). The flow rate is good if you set up your media properly. So far it's been working great for me since I bought it.

i ordered from tru-aqua directly from their site. i have had the filter fro about three months now. I absolutely love this thing. i have it installed on a 55 gal. aquarium with 5 angelfish and 2 plecos in it. this things output blows the plecos all over the place. but they seem to like the current. they will go up in the current and turn horizontal and let the current blow them. kinda fun to watch. i had the spray bar installed but have recently taken it out. i left the elbow on the output to flow the current down the back glass. i'm in line with the other reviews about the bio balls. i have 12 in my filter. i've been meaning to get more, just havent gotten around to it. i took off a star (read update) b/c the first unit i received the motor casing was cracked....water everywhere. emailed aquatop, along with a picture, and they quickly got me an rma. the second unit also had a broken part, again an email and pic and phone call. the overnighted the replacement part. the guy said they never had this problem. but hey i dont know. i may have gotten 2 units packaged by the same person, that may have been mad at work that day.....we ALL have bad days. one more thing....i did a major water change and cleaned the internals of the filter. i also stirred my sandy bottom. the water almost looked like milk when i went to bed. the next morning was almost back the way it was before i cleaned and stirred. my old filters would have never did that. in my opinion...GREAT BUY!!! if i still had my 28gal. up and running. i would buy the cf300 for it.....

5 STAR UPDATE-7/8/12 still loving this filter. I have had ZERO problems out of this thing, been going strong for over a year now. the UV bulb is showing wear, it may go at any time. I haven't changed any of the filter pads, I just spray them out with the water hose.

one quick tip. I did a clean today and found out the output side where the quick disconnects are there is a back flow valve. Yes I knew it was there and why. but here is what I did. I took some needle nose pliers and removed the valve. HOLY CRAP!!!! the flow is noticeably more. even my wife commented on how much more water it was moving.

Hydor Deco Classic Collection Ancient Ruins Aquarium Ornament Kit, Coliseum

Hydor Deco Classic Collection Ancient Ruins Aquarium Ornament Kit, ColiseumNice product in general. Only problem is too many ugly wires in background. Fish like hiding in it. Adds flare to tank.

The product itself does exactly what it advertises, and it looks much nicer in person then it does online. I honestly wasn't expecting the colors to be as nice and vibrant as they are. My only complaint is that the instructions that come with this product are terrible, and with all the little pieces and electrical stuff going in my fish tank I was hesitant to procede but managed to get it together.
