Malaysian Driftwood

I read up on driftwood before ordering one myself. I have a cycled 30 gallon hex aquarium with more that a dozen schooling tetras and a colony of about 20 cherry shrimp. I wanted to upgrade with driftwood; to make the tank look more natural and have a hidding place for baby shrimp. I cured it in a bucket of warm water for 4 days, it leached out quite a bite of tannins. The first day, the water turned dark brown, then the second less, and so forth. I srubbed it and rinced after the fourth day, attatched moss and java ferns and in the tank it went. The piece is random, whatever they send you, I got a nice curved piece with holes in it. I like it a lot and it looks great in my aquarium. The day after in the tank shrimp were already coming out of it and grazing the surface. Also, for size it it perfect for a 10 gallon or 20 gallon hex tank.

I wasn't sure about buying driftwood without seeing it, but I got a nice piece with a unique shape. It is good size and perfect for my fish tank. I boiled it 3 times before putting it in the tank and it still tinted the aquarium water, so just make sure you thoroughly soak it/boil it before adding it to the tank. Overall great deal, can't get that price at the pet store!

Hi, When I purchased this I was afraid I would get a piece of driftwood that I didn't like. After reading a couple reviews I decided to just purchase one since I couldn't find any around my area, they were either fake or overpriced.

When it arrived boy was I happy, I was hoping for a sort of L shaped driftwood that would provide shelter for my fish and I got exactly what I wanted. I was quite surprised at how lucky I was. I purchased the small one and it measured out to be about 11 inches and looks beautiful in my 10 Gallon tank. The driftwood itself is very beautiful and has a brown/tan color to it.

It is real driftwood so you have to boil/soak it before you put it in the tank or else it will tint your water brown. I soaked mines in hot water for 1 full week and it leached quite a bit of tannin. Even when I put it in my tank it leached a little and tinted my water but it wasn't as bad. The tannins actually lowered my pH which is good for my fish and the slightly brown tint looked great in my tank.

I posted a picture of my 10 Gallon tank so you guys can see the driftwood. Hopefully that can help you guys decide if you should take the risk or not. Please let me know if my review helped thanks.

The driftwood looks so good in my tank I want another piece! The shape was not what I expected. It's a bit like a stump with a long thin piece sticking out. I don't mind, it just isn't want I thought of. Anyway, it's in the tank. I boiled it once for about 15 mins. After 24 hours in tank there is no discoloration to the water. I like the way it looks. If it helps, I uploaded a picture that should be available with the product image. I want another piece but I want one that is more of a tunnel for my Pleco to hide in.

I thought this product was going to be too small for my tank. However this piece was perfect, after soaking it for a day, my water was crystal clear and it added a nice center piece to my 20 gallon aquarium.

I purchased this heater Oct 29, 2010. 14 months later it just stopped working. The temp indicator shows it is working but the temp dropped in my tank without warning costing me fish.

Heaters typically last 3-5 years without issue. I recommend you buy a different heater.

The first one leaked over night (these are submersible). I the morning it was full of water and had died causing the temps to drop. Amazon sent me a replacement.. it too started to leak but I pulled the top from the water enough to stop the leak but keep it heating. Then it wouldn't heat the aquarium over 77F no matter how high I turned it up. It's getting returned too. These are cheapos!

I bought this for my 3 pet hermit crabs and am very pleased. The only thing I wish they had included was some sort of backdrop/ foam wall/ climbing wall. But this is a very versatile, sturdy, no-nonsense terrarium. My crabs have since moved to another tank (Exo-Terra), just because of space-saving and personal preferences. But this 5 Gal is plenty big and looks nice anywhere you place it. Also easy to access (no fidgeting), and I love the extra feature of the metal add-on lamp holder (took 30 seconds to put on). I will definitely use this tank again in the future for my next reptile-type pet.

We recently purchased a hermit crab while on vacation. My son later purchased two more crabs, so we needed something bigger than the small habitat we had. This has been great. The crabs have plenty of room to move around. We do use the coconut fiber mixed with hermit crab sand. Also, we have a heating pad, that I keep underneath it to maintain the correct level of humidity for them.

This cage is extremely durable, and worth the cost (I paid $35 from Amazon). It is perfect to use with hermit crabs!

This was a Great idea, has some beauty because of the shape, and large enough for 2 little sliders, easy to clean, big enough to put a suction platform for them to get up on, and it comes with a nice metal mesh cover.

They say that there should be 5 gallons per hermit crab.

Putting this tank at a one hermit crab home. If you have two tiny little hermies, this would be a good STARTER tank.

I do not advise buying it though. I am sure the product is great, but it is not ideal for proper hermit crab care.

It is rather cruel to have one lonely hermit crab. They love friends! But do not go out and buy 5 of them if you have not had a successful molting process. I have had many different habitats in the last 3 years for my hermit crabs. I started out in a metal (DO NOT USE FOR HERMIT CRABS, THEY ARE TOXIC) cage habitat then upgraded to another easily portable plastic/metal cage (once again no metal!) then upgraded to a 10 gallon but found that after I started adding the salt water dish, fresh (DE chlorinated) water dish, food DISHES, climbing items, 1 hide out per hermit crab that my 10 gallon tank seemed smaller and smaller. I have recently upgraded to a 20 gallon tank and so far so good, but still feels like I could have more room and easily fill it with more things for my hermies. until i have a place of my own, i will stick with a 20 gallon but hope to have a much bigger crabitat one day!

If you plan on getting more hermit crabs for your little critter i highly advise a bigger tank or you will soon be spending more money on yet another tank. but this 5 gallon would not be the worst choice for your hermit crabs, but it is rather cruel. they need space!

we have a 20 gallon tank. my old 12 hour feeder we used for vacation for about 6 years stopped working properly. looked at a lot of feeders-really happy with this feeder. we use hard and flake; just break them up really well. go slow with the programit is not that hard as some have written, just follow instructions! i first did a test outside the tank to get the set-up just right[used a large cup] have it set for two feedings;8am and 8pmat three quarter. the food does not get damp at all. now we use it all the time-no more wondering if i feed them or notand always the right amount. My first impression of this was good until I had to take it apart, then the plastic container was so hard to undo it almost broke. It later broke after 3 food changes but I also noticed that the food was starting to mold and got maggots into the food.... I have other fish food feeders and this one is by far the WORST!

Overall I think this is a way better deal than the one that is like $30+, but i'm broke so who knows

I bought this for small turtle pellets, it occasionally has a few pellets get stuck, but after a few feedings it clears itself up. I like how it has 4 feeding times with multiple rotation choices. This allows me to make sure that we don't have uneaten food floating around. The side clamp holds tight and was is a big plus, the last feeder we had fell in and died. I've had a Koi pond for 8 years now. Prior to this year, I stopped feeding them (Tetra Koi Viabrance) after the water drops below 50 deg (Oct Mar). My fish were fine each spring. This year I saw this online, and said what the heck, I'll give it a try. The fish will eat the stuff, but at a much lower rate than the regular season (which is normal). Problem is, this box is too big for my needs (with only 13 fish). I only saw 2 sizes, this and 7.05 ounce can, which was $10 versus $15 for this. I wish they had a package that was half this size (but bigger than can), cause the fish won't eat all of this between the fall & spring of next year. I don't know if they really need this stuff as I mentioned above, but for the price I figure it can't hurt to feed them until water hits below 40 deg.

It's the best chewable habitat I've seen. We had a different model our gerbil demolished -but that model was painted bright colors. I suspect it was somewhat toxic to chew on, though our gerbil survived.

This is unpainted and seems as safe a habitat as one could buy. Only 3 issues:

1. The label was a nuisance to remove.

2. It's tacked together, so hope the gerbil can figure that out.

3. It's made in China, so we can only cross fingers and hope it really is relatively non-toxic.

Update: Well, four issues. Our gerbil is a manic chewer, and he chewed into a tack on a similar structure. He broke a tooth, which the abscessed. He's now the 150 dollar gerbil, recovering post-op. This wood hut has similar tacks holding it together. If Kangaroo recovers fully, we'll cut this structure apart and build him something held together by string.

Previously I used cardboard boxes with sections cut out for entry and windows. My pig loved those and would immediately start to nibble on them. They were free and lasted about three months. I ensured that there was no ink, tape or labels on the boxes.

I purchased this recently, and my pig loves it, of course. He's already sticks his head out the top and the side window. I think that this is better for him, because it will help his teeth wear down better than a cardboard box. I don't see any dangers in my guinea pig using this.

I use this to provide a supplimental food to the goldfish in my two "natural" ponds, especially in the early spring and early winter when the ice isn't covering the whole pond and the fish aren't dug-in for the winter yet but natural food seems a bit lean.

I don't normally feed them and at first they didn't know what it was. The fish were feeders I bought at the pet store several years ago. Now they are all 8 12" in length. I wanted something to use as a treat on occasion when I stop by the pond in chilly weather and the fish are hanging around "sunning" themselves. The fish like it and the pellets float at the top for a long time, giving them opportunity to find it before it sinks into the muddy bottom.

Kordon Amquel Plus Water Conditioner

I have used this in tandem with NovAqua Plus (also from Kordon) for quit a long time and I would not use any other water conditioners out there . I do not need it to control my Ammonia , Nitrites nor Nitrates because I have a well cycled and balanced aquarium , but I am at 85 % stocking compacity in one of my aquariums and around 70 to 80 % in the others for their sizes and filtration , but it is better to be safe than sorry . AmQuel Plus does not remove ammonia , nitrites or nitrates but simply binds them so they will no longer be toxic to your fish and by only binding them they will not interfere with your beneficial nitrifying bacteria . It will not effect your pH . Though it does state that by using AmQuel Plus you will need to do less partial water changes , I would still continue normal maintenance and water changes as usual . One should not rely on a product in place of proper water changes for the health and welfare of the fish . It is harmless to use with plants and inverts including coral and sea anemones .

When using AmQuel Plus one must remember that when running water tests be sure to use Ammonia tests that do not use the "Nessler" regeants as it will give you a false or inaccurate readings .

Some fish tank maintenance products do not work well with, and can even be toxic when combined with tap water conditioners containing "stress coat" ingredients. This product works perfectly for water conditioning without adding unneccessary "stress coat" ingredients. I was very happy to find this product after reading the warning about stress coat on another fish tank maintenance product I use! Amquel+ is a smelly product, but it works great!

Just make sure you don't overdose it. Although it says it removes nitrates and nitrites, many tests will show the same nitrates and nitrites after using this product. It just makes them non-toxic (binds them, as someone else said here in the review) , but doesn't remove them. it's done that way to maintain balance in the aquarium without killing beneficial bacteria. So if you think , the nitra(e)tes are still there and you keep upping the dose, you'll lower your ph to a very low level and also create oxygen reduction in your tank and kill all the fish. Also these products , when used make sure your water is well aerated. This is very essential esp. at higher temperatures above 70F as warmer water has lesser oxygen and adding such products will still lower them. So just use recommended dosage and wait 24-48 hours until next partial water change and use again. Some ppl mistakenly do these things and thing that the product is poison. It's not. It worked well for me. Life saver. And don't rely on this product and just ignore partial water changes. Do the things you do normally. If you don't do your groundwork and expect sudden magic to happen , it's not going to. Plus its' hard to monitor overdosing when you think you're not getting right readings.

Personally if you're using this to remove ammonia, your tank is not cycled (even to the first level) and you've no business keeping fish in them and traumatizing them. If you're cycled, and if you still see ammonia, then you're really overcrowding or overfeeding your tank.

I use this product mainly when my 2nd or 3rd cycle (nitrate,nitrites) have trouble getting removed (which is common sometimes). And word of wisdom is it's not wise to use your fish as guinea pig during cycling. It's very traumatizing for them. create a good cycle first and make sure it works and then slowly add fish little by little.

I use this product to dechlorinate tap water for water changes, but I would NOT recommend it as a REPLACEMENT for water changes as it significantly reduces your pH. If you continually add it to your tank without any water changes in hopes of maintaining proper water parameters, you will end up with a pH around 6.0-6.2. My goldfish actually got fin rot due to the low pH as a result of this product. I buffered my water with baking soda, bringing the pH back up to 7.6, but that only lasted a couple hours until it dropped back down. It's not an entirely bad product as long as you're using it purely for the purpose of dechlorinating tap water. If you're skeptical of this product due to the effect it has on the pH, I would go look at Seachem Prime.

My nitrates were at 20ppm, everything else was 0.... Dosed the tank at 5 pm.... Everything still alive at 2 am.... Everything DEAD at 7:30 am! The company says everything died suddenly due to the level of nitrates. I purchased this item after reading about it and found it to be a lot more convenient to use compared to all of the other methods of fish acclimation. Not having to jump up every few minutes to add water to the fish container (and try to remember where you were in the process) is a god send for me. And, as a bonus, It also just so happens that it is the best method of doing an acclimation, as well. The only wish I have is that the assembly sat a little higher above the surface of the water which would make it a lot more convenient in positioning the bag containing the fish below the drip cup and adjusting the drip. Being able to secure the assembly to the tank glass would also help. I wound up dropping the drip cup a couple of times while trying to position everything and am afraid that if I'm not careful, I'll break it. Otherwise, it's a great little gadget and I love it! On another note, I had a problem with the item I received, and, the company was extremely responsive in remedying the situation. Great outfit to do business with!

My son has a 2.5 gallon tank divided for three beta fish. We purchased this ship to fit a piece in each end and hooked them up with air tubes. They are cute. The fit is tight but I measured before I ordered and it fits...barely. I was able to hook up the air and after getting the tilt just so, able to get the bubbles just like I wanted. One drawback that had nothing to do with limited space...too light! The one end I had to bury in the rocks to get it to stay down and needless to say, every time the tank gets cleaned, it is floating, and mama has to get in there and get it back down. The other end would not stay down at all, so I hunted through the house for something nontoxic that would fit in there and weight it down and came up with a small onyx elephant I put in first followed by an onyx turtle I picked up years ago when I was in to buying onyx critters every time I went somewhere. Actually, it kind a looks like a sea turtle hiding in the ship and you don't see the elephant at all. So, it is cute, it works, but be prepared to take a deep breath before you patiently struggle to get the tube and the ship properly weighted, positioned, etc. so it doesn't keep popping up...and then redoing it every time you clean the tank.

I have two boxers, 4.2 yr old female and 7 month old male. This toy was dismantled within two days. That was not the problem -the ball has two smaller inner pieces melded together which make up the 'squeek'. When torn apart these two smaller rubber pieces can be lodged in the dog's throat which is a safety hazard. As soon as I realized my boxers each were chewing on these small rubber pieces, I immediately retrieved and trashed them. It was a surprise to me being a huge fan of KONG toys, still having some intact after four years.

One of my dogs is obsessed with this toy. He wants to tug and play fetch with it 24/7. I got it a week ago, and he hasn't stopped playing with it since. He has tons of toys, and hasn't touched another one since he got this one. My other dog likes the toy decently, but not really more than his other toys. It seems to be good quality. No damage to the toy, yet, and no bite marks in the rubber. I really like all these Kong Squeezz dogs (I also have some animal shaped ones and a stick) and they all are really great toys.

This was my first experience with a titanium heater and so far I LOVE it! I had done a good bit of research and learned that the biggest problem with titanium heaters is sometimes they do too well of a job and overheat the tank so I decided to go a bit smaller than I needed in the hopes that it would keep my tank warm enough but not be capable of overheating it should a problem occur. I have a 260 gallon (freshwater setup) that this heater maintains between 75-80 degrees with absolutely no trouble...it doesn't even run all the time like I expected it might. I do keep a separate thermometer that I can use to compare the heater (on the opposite side of the tank) with and so far it is true to temp. I like the fact that it lays horizontally in the back because it is easily hidden and doesn't stand out like some of the other heaters do. I don't worry about it breaking like glass heaters have been known to do. I will be purchasing a smaller wattage heater to replace the glass heater in my 55 gallon aquarium as well. I think one key to good temp is good water flow so that the temp is even across the tank and there are no hot and cold spots. I've had that problem with heaters that must hang on the sides but not with this one so far. Great purchase and I'll surely be getting another!

The HMA 300 titanium 300 watt aquarium heater I bought some time ago. I really like this tank heater it hasn't failed me at all. I like the control on the outside of the tank you don't have to pull the heater from the tank to ajust temp. The only thing is you have to have a good thermometer as the control that you set the temprature with is not right on. But then any heater is not right on. Because you have lighting that changes the water temp during the day as does any sun light that might hit your tank. I would recamend this heat to anyone that has a larger aquarium. I am using this heater in a 55 gallon tank and it holds the temp within a coupel of degress of the setting. And the titanium tube will not brake like the glass heaters. When you first set temp make sure you watch tank temp until it ajust so you don't boil your fish friends. You should do this with any tank heater.I would say set the temp a little low to start with by about 5 dgrees and bring temp up slowly so you don't shock your fish by bring temp up or down to fast.
