Tetra Hexagon Aquarium Kit with LED Bubbler, 1-Gallon

Tetra Hexagon Aquarium Kit with LED Bubbler, 1-GallonI bought this tank for my newly purchased betta Kane. It caught my eye at another retailer and I grabbed it. Setting this tank up was easy, it looked nice and Kane seemed to like it. Now to the.. pros and cons list.

Pro

affordable

nice looking

strong air pump with provided splicer/air gauge

Con

kind of small, only 1 gallon

the LED light is in the water, and there is no shut off option for the lights short of unplugging it

very little room for plants or decorations once you put the filter in

filter door is flimsy, kept falling off..

oh yea.. AND MY FISH DIED.

Now, his death is still a mystery.. my cat had a wet paw and he was gone. The clear lid sort of snaps into place on the tank, nice.. and it was firmly on. However, the 'feeding' hole is exposed with no cover, and is over 1 inch in diameter. That leaves ample room for a hopping fish.. or hungry cat.. to cause problems.

The filter lid is only held on by a flimsy hinge and kept popping off.. no biggie, but kind of annoying. Also the filters need to be replaced like every 2 weeks, which is a little often, but needed.

the LED light is beautiful, it really is.. also makes it next to impossible to see your fish unless they glow in the dark. It does take up a fair bit of space in the bottom of the tank, so makes placing plants very difficult to say the least.

The air pump is strong, super strong.. so strong in fact, I had to keep the pressure dialed down on both the airstone/light and the filter to keep poor Kane from getting thrown around his tank.

All in all, I'll probably use it again if I decide to get another fish. Right now I'm sort of fed up with it and the whole vanishing fish ordeal that I might look into something better, or at the very least.. tape over that feeding hole to keep my cats from getting nosy again.

Two electric cords, two plastic tubes all coming out of the top of the small tank. Very messy!!! Also no where to put the filter motor. Very messy for a desk top. Cords and tubes everywhere.

I bought this tank for my betta fish. He loves it compared of what has been living in at walmart. He swims all over this 1 gallon tank! I bought this because I never owned an aquarium before and I thought it will be a start to owning bigger ones. To know how to clean them and take good care of your pets. I bought the Betta fish because They are very easy to get use to as well. Give it a try! My Betta fish loves it!

Now I like reviewing fish equipment and this time I got to review this tank. I have to say it is pretty good tank over all with the exception that it needs a light as the bubbler is insufficient.

Ok first the whisper air pump, true to it's name as it is the quietest pump I've ever not heard. ;) Now the filter, it's good but a little noisy as it likes to "gurgle". Fianlly the tank itself is like I said alright, it has a small footprint so it's good for a desktop. The lid does have a tendency to no close completely but unless you're keeping something that move it it's nothing to worry about.

Now I could go into what you should or shouldn't keep in it but I'm not you. I'm keeping feeder snails and a plant in it and it is serving it's purpose exceedingly well for me. So overall I give it 5 stars, it would be 4 1/2 for the bad lid but I'll bump it up because it's not that big a issue.

I must start by saying this is my second attempt on a betta tank. First tank was "recommended" by the pet store clerk and was a small cheap tank no frills. My First fish lasted 2 months in that tank. Unfortunately, cleaning can be difficult with the smaller cheap tanks, and my betta died. :( So my next trip to the pet store I was more prepared. I shelled out big bucks buying a new fish, tank, rocks, filters, thermometer, decorations etc. It took me about 45 mins to get the tank set up and water temp right. I put my betta in a bag and let him float in the water to acclimate him to the water temp. But, once I let him out of the bag, the current from the bubble/filter system was too strong for the little guy. So I shut the bubbles/filter off completely. Making the whole point of buying this particular tank pointless. I wanted a filter so I could clean the tank less then every 5-7 days. I want to take good care of my fish but I'm also busy and don't have time to clean a fish tank every 5 days. If you're the looking for easy maintenance skip this tank. Also, after doing more research online, most sites say that betta fish should be kept in a minimum of 5 gallons with a filter and a heater. I guess with a larger tank the current isn't so strong and the fish can thrive. I fully commit when I purchase a pet and try to give them the best quality of life. I'm extremely disappointed since I spent nearly $60 plus dollars all together and will have to go back and purchase another tank. Maybe this is a good tank for another type of fish? Not so great for betta owners.

Coral Floral Cave with Plants

Coral Floral Cave with PlantsI got this piece to place in my 2.5 gallon fish bowl with one Betta fish. The fish loves the little cave and it looks nice too. But I found that one of the plants was made of reasonable hard plastic and was damaging the Betta's fins. So cut that plant and everything is good now. The plant would probably not bother other fish.

This faux coral is much more beautiful than what is shown. The orange of the coral is very vibrant and adds a nice splash of color. Also the purple in the brain coral is lovely. There are no jagged edges for the fish's fins to get caught on and the fiddler crabs seemed to like to hide out in it sometimes.

I bought two of these coral caves to add more hiding places in my freshwater tank. Currently a crayfish occupies one and the other has had numerous tenants (lol). This product will add to the character to any fresh or salt water tank. I will recommend this product anytime. Great Buy!!!

Marina Plastic Check Valve

Marina Plastic Check ValvePerfect valve to have between my CO2 canister and ladder. Inexpensive and doesn't appear to restrict flow. Lots of bubbles. (Even though the Hagen Nutrafin CO2 system does not require you to use a check valve, it's good to have one in place if you're canister isn't at tank level).

Check valves are a must if you're running your air pump lower than your fish tanks. My pump is located in the cellar with fish tanks on the first and second floors. Damage to your pump can result when you don't have a check valve. Highly recommended product at reasonable price.

Marina Cool Goldfish Kit

Marina Cool Goldfish Kit, Purple, Medium/2.65-GallonTHIS kit come with everything but heater and light .my betta loves it .it big enough to add a nice size ornament .filter a bit strong but for 18.00 dollars can,t complain .i have yet to find a better deal on a one gallon for my other betta so i just order 1 more for her .wouldnt put gold fish in but perfect for my betta,s

Well, I purchased this product for my son about a month ago. THIS WAS THE BEST DEAL ON AMAZON. For those stating that this is too small, THIS IS A STARTER KIT!!!!! So if you just got a goldfish keep him in here until you can upgrade, like my son and I did. This was one of the best deals I ever got. Now we keep our goldfish who is currently 4 inches in a 10 gallon tank. Also, if you can buy a heater, this is great for keeping to small tropical fish like platties or guppies. We now keep two guppies in here. REMEMBER every Inch of fish means one gallon of water, so after your fish is about 2.5 inches, its time to upgrade. The filter is VERY strong. Assembly is quite easy if you READ once agian READ NOT SKIM through the instructions. I assembled everything in about 3 min. unlike the reviewers below. This Starter kit contains gravel(rock) one plant, gold fish food, water conditioners( Hagen Nutrafin Aqua+ which improves tap water and removes metals and chlorine, protects scales and fins, and has an anti stress formula, and Nutrafin Cycle, which IMMEDIATLEY establishes a safe enviorment and contains ammonia and a nitrate elimination formula, both of these are VERY beneficial for your fish), a POWERFUL Hagen filter, and of course, the 2.65 gallon tank. Overall this product is a bang for your buck and you will NOT regret purchasing this item.

We bought this tank at Petsmart for about $23. Cheap. But it brought so much heartache to our family. I wish I had read all the reviews, maybe with modifications I could have saved my daughter's Black Molly. The 2 guppies that we first got were killed by the filter within 48 hours. Their beautiful tail got caught in by the filter. Molly (the black Molly) was smarter and quickly figured out that one should not get close to the front if the filter. But 12 days later she died of stress. I could not understand why as we kept water at perfect conditions, water changes every 2 days, a little salt, heater to keep temp constant, etc. I mean, I put a LOT of work in keeping that fish alive because I did not want to break my child's heart after the guppy fiasco. Well, after reading the review about the constant whirlpool, it ALL makes sense! This poor fish would hide inside this castle decor or hover right at the top of the water at the side of the filter, avoiding at all costs the larger front area of the tank. I thought she was skiddish. Now I see she was trying to survive the whirlpool. But I guess eventually she succumbed to exhaustion and stress. We found her dead this morning.

We will try the sock, sponge & change position of the filter for the new Molly, Cole. We can't put anything bigger in her bedroom. But I extremely regret having gone for this kit. :(

My wife purchased this aquarium, and it didn't take long to see that it was a death trap if you intend to have anything but one one or two larger fish (smaller fish will struggle with the current created by the large filter).

Some people here are shutting the filter off at night, but doing that will kill your fish unless you are doing very frequent water changes to make up for it. Defeats the purpose of the filter and your aquarium won't cycle right anyway.

I made some alterations to help make the aquarium a short term solution until we were ready to upgrade (we purchased a petco bookshelf aquarium which is far superior for not much more money).

First off, I would NOT recommend placing the filter in the center of the tank, as the manufacturer recommends. This pretty much makes the entire tank a whirlpool, which will kill smaller fish like neon tetras and guppies who are not full grown. Instead, place the filter over on the far side of the tank so your fish can get away from the suction current and rest. High stress environments usually mean a shorter life for your fish.

Moving the filter to the side of the tank will create a problem. You won't be able to close the lid properly. To solve this, I drilled a hole into the lid's side trim and widened the hole with a pair of needle nose pliers. You need to practice putting the filter into place first so you can estimate where to notch out the hole. This will allow the filter hang bracket to function normally while allowing you to shut the lid completely. Run the filter's power cord through the space just to the left or right of the hood hinges.

You can also place a clean toddler's sock over the bottom of the filter to help mitigate the suction power of the filter. It's not the best solution in the world, but far better than turning the filter off completely for any length of time.

Lastly, I purchased a lamp cord, a socket and a 4 watt light bulb at the hardware store for $7. The raised hood of the aquarium provides plenty of room to install a light and the lid has holes in it to run the wires through.

I hope this helps a few people until they are able to upgrade.

For those considering a better aquarium for just a few dollars more, I would highly recommend a Petco 6.6 gallon bookshelf aquarium. You can find those here on Amazon for $40. It's not much more money and will give your fish more than twice the space, fewer hassles and an environment that is far less stressful to your fish.

I purchased this tank for my daughter for her fifth birthday. I am happy with the construction of it, as well as the child-accessible feed-opening in the lid. The size is just right for a little kid, and the colors and decorations are lovely. That being said, it IS a starter tank, and is probably not actually a very good choice for gold fish, as they grow so large. The tank does not come with a heater or a lighting system (which can be purchased separately), so the best choice of fish is a Betta. I understand that most people say that Bettas need a minimum of five-gallons of water, but that hasn't been my experience with any Betta I have ever owned, and our fish is presently quite happy swimming about his 2.65 Gallon bachelor pad. Overall, it's a decent product for the price.

I have used these for years and I have never replaced them. When they start looking totally disgusting, I just rinse them in some tank water when I do a PWC. (Never rinse them in tap water). They hold up terrific. I have tank that is five years old and one that is six years old and they still have the same noodles that I started with in both filters. I have no plans to replace them any time soon. My water is crystal clear and my fish extra healthy! :)

Coralife Lunar Aqualight Compact Fluorescent Aquarium Lighting Fixture

Coralife 08609 Lunar Aqualight Compact Fluorescent Aquarium Lighting Fixture, 48-InchEverything is great but I do think it's a pain to have to use a screwdriver in order to replace the light bulbs.

This is a good upgrade from the standard t5 single flourecent fixture. The main thing I don't like is how the bulbs are shorter than the length of the light so they offset them. Now one side of my tank lights up deep blue and the other side is bright white. Also it says dual fans on box and you can see two vents in photo but you only get one fan, the other vent is for the air to come out of. Led lights are very nice! And seperate cords/ switches a very nice also!

Lee's The Ultimate Extension 25-Foot Hose

Lee's The Ultimate Extension 25-Foot HoseI am so tired of carrying buckets. I had the 25 foot gravel vac and it wasn't quite long enough to reach from my 150 gallon aquarium to my utility sink in the basement. I purchased this and can't express enough how grateful I am to not have to deal with buckets anymore for water changes. Get it and you will love it!

I now have three red-eared sliders and have to go across 2 rooms to drain and fill water in the tank. Could not have done i without this. Easy to store. Easy to 'establish'

Aqueon 06111 Aquarium Water Changer Extension, 20-Foot

Aqueon 06111 Aquarium Water Changer Extension, 20-FootWe bought this for more hose length to maintain tanks that are far away from water sources. One reason I chose the Aqueon hose to begin with was the relative stiffness of the hose. I don't want kinks in the line while I am stringing water across the house. However, the extension hose is NOT the same tubing that was used on the original and does have a tendency to kink. This is not to say it's as flimsy as the cheap tubing you can buy at the hardware store, but it doesn't hold up the way the original hose does. I don't have an alternative to suggest, but do keep in mind that it's a bit flimsy.

I've had several aquarium syphons over the years and I'm quite satisfied with Aqueon. I'll have to say that the 20' extension needs improvement when it comes to construction and design. The hose is not wide enough to allow sufficient water flow once it's connected to the main syphon. A wider hose would help. I believe this is due to the plastic connector that is used to attach the extension to the main hose. The most important improvement I would suggest is the material of the connector fragile PVC plastic. The connector is very sensitive and when I tightened one end to the main hose it broke. It's not that I over tightened the connector, it's just made out of cheap plastic. An aluminum connector or maybe a stronger material would make this product useful. I'll have to make my own connector to be able to use the extension without a leak on my living room floor. Decent product cheap material.

Tetra Pirates Caribbean Aquarium Kit 1.5gal

Tetra Pirates Caribbean Aquarium Kit 1.5galPros

-Perfect humane size for a Betta

-Captain jack ornament is great

-Filter means the water stays clean a bit longer

-Storage compartment underneath is great

Cons

-Light is a bit flimsy and not too bright, but it's better than nothing

After buying a Betta with one of those teeny 1/4 gallon tanks that they sell for $4 at Wal-Mart, I immediately decided that I needed a bigger tank. However, being a college student I didn't want to splurge money-wise or space wise, so I looked around and this tank fit the bill. There are a couple other tanks that are very similar for the same price, but this one comes with the Captain Jack Sparrow ornament. While the ornament is not a perfect likeness to Captain Jack, it is a perfect place for Bettas. My fish loves it. The tank also has a cool little compartment underneath that can store food and extra filters. I'd recommend it over a plain fish bowl any day.

This aquarium works well and its at a great price.I bought for my betta fish and it loves it. The light works nicely and the little storage in the bottom is nice too. Its not to noisy and my betta doesn't freak out when I put it in. It comes with almost everything you need. So you will need t buy a little heater and it will be complete. Even do this aquarium is really nice you should eventually upgrade to a bigger tank around 3 or 5 gallons. Just like humans animals a bigger place to be in.

TaoTronics TT-AL09 Dimmable Aquarium Coral Reef LED Grow Light (120W Output, Blue/White Ratio- 28:2

TaoTronics TT-AL09 Dimmable Aquarium Coral Reef LED Grow LightThe light is well built and sturdy. Hanging kit worked perfectly. Complete dimming control from 100% to completely off. My only complaint is the case which appears to be powdercoated metal, it looks nice but I worry about longevity in a salt water environment.

I bought 2 of these LED lights to replace 504 watts of 48" VHO Florescent lighting for 75 gallon tank (48"x18"x 20")with very good results so far. The 48" VHO's were mounted under canopy lid and I completely removed them and cut 2 evenly spaced rectangular holes (15.75" x 8.50") in the canopy lid. Inside the lid I mounted 2 pieces of .25" acrylic to cover under the holes for the lights to set on. I set the LED lights on top outside the canopy so they would shine through the acrylic and does not get moisture like the VHO's did. Mounting the fixtures in the dry on the outside on top of canopy will greatly increase the lifespan of the fixtures. I used separate timers for the white & blue dimmable lights for a sunrise effect. After acclimating the corals to the new LED lighting with the dimmers, I found that in my aquarium I could not run the LED's @100% it was too bright for my corals (slight bleaching effect) so I dimmed to 50% with great results. With the White @50% & Blue @50% , both fixtures together consuming 110 watts @50% compared to 504 watts VHO previously. The heat factor was also greatly reduced! My corals (all Softies) are all doing great after 3 months of these lights running @50% capacity. The 3 fans on each fixture are very quiet and keep the fixture cool. These LED's are very bright and evenly distribute light throughout the whole aquarium mounted 7" above water surface. The Shimmer effect is fantastic! After a lot of research of LED fixtures, I would certainly recommend these affordable LED lights to any Aquarium enthusiast looking for alternative lighting.

Buy TaoTronics TT-AL09 Dimmable Aquarium Coral Reef LED Grow Light (120W Output, Blue/White Ratio- 28:2 Now

I recently ordered these lights and they were shipped FedEx from China. I'm impressed with so much on this transaction and the first being the fast and secure shipping as well as the price and quality of these 2 units.

My set up is a 225 system this is a deeper tank than the normal yet the lights shine to the deepest part of the tank I have a 1/3 CHILLER and a 40 gallon sump that houses 2 filter socks, a protein skimmer and a UV sterilizer. My tank has never looked better and the fans 3 per unit are super quiet and do a great job of venting the warmer air out of the hood area.

I actually received then in early November but had them installed only last week. They replaced 2 400 watt MH bulbs as well as a bulky and hot ballast. The install used 4 brackets for each until hung from the inside of my canopy running on timers the whites on from 12:30 PM until 6 the blues from 10 AM until 6 supplementing the 2 LED units are 4 T5 25 Watt Actinic on from 9 AM to 10 PM.

I made the decision to replace the MH with LED for a number of reasons and the main reason being electricity costs and bulb replacement cost every 12 months. I needed to buy new MH bulbs but before I decided to spend the $200 I made the wise decision to go with LED. I did my research and ended up with the TAO TRONICS units for cost, quality, features and ease of ordering.

They ARE FANTASTIC the water shimmers my corals never looked better and I can't wait to see the enery saving next month as I estimate a savings of $30 $40 per month on my electric bill. I already notice my chiller going on less and the stable temperature is at least 1.5 degrees lower with the new LED lights.

I highly recommend the TAO TRONICS units you can't go wrong and the price will gradually drop and more features will be added but I'm glad to have jumped on the LED bandwagon!!!

Kordon Amquel Plus Water Conditioner

Kordon Amquel Plus Water ConditionerI have used this in tandem with NovAqua Plus (also from Kordon) for quit a long time and I would not use any other water conditioners out there . I do not need it to control my Ammonia , Nitrites nor Nitrates because I have a well cycled and balanced aquarium , but I am at 85 % stocking compacity in one of my aquariums and around 70 to 80 % in the others for their sizes and filtration , but it is better to be safe than sorry . AmQuel Plus does not remove ammonia , nitrites or nitrates but simply binds them so they will no longer be toxic to your fish and by only binding them they will not interfere with your beneficial nitrifying bacteria . It will not effect your pH . Though it does state that by using AmQuel Plus you will need to do less partial water changes , I would still continue normal maintenance and water changes as usual . One should not rely on a product in place of proper water changes for the health and welfare of the fish . It is harmless to use with plants and inverts including coral and sea anemones .

When using AmQuel Plus one must remember that when running water tests be sure to use Ammonia tests that do not use the "Nessler" regeants as it will give you a false or inaccurate readings .

Some fish tank maintenance products do not work well with, and can even be toxic when combined with tap water conditioners containing "stress coat" ingredients. This product works perfectly for water conditioning without adding unneccessary "stress coat" ingredients. I was very happy to find this product after reading the warning about stress coat on another fish tank maintenance product I use! Amquel+ is a smelly product, but it works great!

Buy Kordon Amquel Plus Water Conditioner Now

Just make sure you don't overdose it. Although it says it removes nitrates and nitrites, many tests will show the same nitrates and nitrites after using this product. It just makes them non-toxic (binds them, as someone else said here in the review) , but doesn't remove them. it's done that way to maintain balance in the aquarium without killing beneficial bacteria. So if you think , the nitra(e)tes are still there and you keep upping the dose, you'll lower your ph to a very low level and also create oxygen reduction in your tank and kill all the fish. Also these products , when used make sure your water is well aerated. This is very essential esp. at higher temperatures above 70F as warmer water has lesser oxygen and adding such products will still lower them. So just use recommended dosage and wait 24-48 hours until next partial water change and use again. Some ppl mistakenly do these things and thing that the product is poison. It's not. It worked well for me. Life saver. And don't rely on this product and just ignore partial water changes. Do the things you do normally. If you don't do your groundwork and expect sudden magic to happen , it's not going to. Plus its' hard to monitor overdosing when you think you're not getting right readings.

Personally if you're using this to remove ammonia, your tank is not cycled (even to the first level) and you've no business keeping fish in them and traumatizing them. If you're cycled, and if you still see ammonia, then you're really overcrowding or overfeeding your tank.

I use this product mainly when my 2nd or 3rd cycle (nitrate, nitrites) have trouble getting removed (which is common sometimes). And word of wisdom is it's not wise to use your fish as guinea pig during cycling. It's very traumatizing for them. create a good cycle first and make sure it works and then slowly add fish little by little.

I use this product to dechlorinate tap water for water changes, but I would NOT recommend it as a REPLACEMENT for water changes as it significantly reduces your pH. If you continually add it to your tank without any water changes in hopes of maintaining proper water parameters, you will end up with a pH around 6.0-6.2. My goldfish actually got fin rot due to the low pH as a result of this product. I buffered my water with baking soda, bringing the pH back up to 7.6, but that only lasted a couple hours until it dropped back down. It's not an entirely bad product as long as you're using it purely for the purpose of dechlorinating tap water. If you're skeptical of this product due to the effect it has on the pH, I would go look at Seachem Prime.

My nitrates were at 20ppm, everything else was 0.... Dosed the tank at 5 pm.... Everything still alive at 2 am.... Everything DEAD at 7:30 am! The company says everything died suddenly due to the level of nitrates. I find it strange that everything was living with it just fine until I used this product.... 37 gallon reef aquarium costing thousands GONE!

Mardel Maracyn-Two Powder Packets Water Treament (Freshwater), 24ct

Mardel Maracyn-Two Powder Packets Water Treament, 24ctMaracyn 2 is a synthetic form of the tetracycline class of antibiotics and is more broad spectrum than others. This is a very effective antibiotic which can be combined with Maracyn or used by itself. It is one of the best antibiotics that can be purchased for fish disease. It is also very safe so overdosing shouldn't cause any issues. One thing to note is that this product like all tetracycline type antibiotics become dangerous after they have expired. Once the expiration date passes it must be disposed of.

This medication is especially effective for septicemia and fin/tail rot. It can also be used to treat popeye and dropsy. Another benefit of this antibiotic is that it acts as an anti-inflammatory, helping to reduce redness and swelling.

Make sure you remove any carbon/chemical media from your aquarium filter when using this. If you keep this media in, it will absorb the medication and potentially cause antibiotic resistance. Also make sure you treat for the stated time. Like any antibiotic, not following the proper dosage and timings can make it ineffective and again lead to resistance as only some bacteria are destroyed while the others that survive mutate and proliferate.

Also just a tip, add some Aquarium Salt to the aquarium while treating for disease as this will help in healing, as well as help prevent advantageous parasites from complicating things further. Do not use regular table salt as it contains iodine! Aquarium salt is cheap, available on Amazon and it will last you forever.

*****

Update:

Just thought I would add some more info to this post as this is really the only available antibiotic for fish diseases on Amazon.

This antibiotic is effective in freshwater but not really in salt water aquarium's. Hard water will also reduce the effectiveness of this antibiotic as it is absorbed by dissolved calcium in the water.

Although this antibiotic can be used to treat dropsy, it can be especially taxing on the kidney's. Because dropsy is caused by the kidneys failing to remove water/fluids from the inside of the fish, it can make things much worse. Kanamycin is the best for this disease.

I have had pretty good success with mixing this antibiotic with fish food rather than treating the aquarium water. If you have a large aquarium, or don't have access to another tank, this method may be more economical and even more effective.

To treat this way you have to 1st be sure your sick fish are still eating!

-Take a small cup and throw in some pelleted fish food. Add some hot water, just a bit more than what would be necessary to cover all the food, then mix in half a packet of the Maracyn-2.

-Leave it for 1-2 hours to allow the food to soak up the solution. You should also swirl the contents a few times.

-Dispose of the leftover solution and place the treated pellets in the aquarium. Make sure your fish are eating them!

-If you choose to go this route, you should feed the fish these medicated pellets daily, and continue to do so a few days after the disease appears to have been cured.

You may want to try soaking the pelleted fish food you have in some tap water 1st to make sure they wont just completely dissolve in the water.

"New Life Spectrum THERA A" is a fish food available on Amazon which by itself, help's with fish diseases. I have found that these pellets do not breakup and are able to absorb quite a bit of the solution. It is available in numerous pellet sizes. Be sure to get the Thera A version.

If anyone has questions about this or treating fish diseases, leave a comment. I have had to learn quite a bit about fish diseases over the years as I attempted to extend the life of a fish that had Tuberculosis.

Maracyn-Two works very well. It actually cured dropsy in one of my fancy goldfish about 2 years ago. You should keep it on hand ready to use, because you have to act fast (if it is dropsy). It also works well on fin rot and I have used it 3 or 4 times for that. You don't have to be in a big hurry if it is fin rot.

I don't use a hospital tank. I treat the whole 30 gallon tank with this stuff. It does not seem to hurt the beneficial bacteria that get rid of ammonia. It also does not bother the other fish in the tank that are not sick. Doesn't faze them a bit, although you would think so, since it does make the water look a little yellow and cloudy. I can't think of a worse thing to do to a sick fish than to take it out of its home and into a hospital tank. Besides, it takes a month to get a new tank up and running (cycled). Just treat the whole home tank. Will take a lot of packets of this stuff, so the little 8 packet box won't do much good. Get the 24 packets. Don't be afraid to use this stuff. It won't hurt anything.

The directions are pretty good. Read them all, not just on the box, but inside. The diagnostic chart inside is very good. The only thing I thought was vague in the instructions was what to do if you want to do 2 5-day treatments back to back. I think the best advise is to stop after the first 5-day treatment and do the water change and put carbon in, for 3 days. Then after that 3-day "rest" period do the second 5-day treatment. But you probably won't need it. If you do, another approach would be to try a different med, like Maracyn Plus maybe. These Mardel meds are the real deal.

Note this Maracyn-Two is for freshwater. I think there is a separate product for salt water.

By the way, I would not use potted plants in the aquarium. The little bit of dirt on the root ball will have lots of foreign bacteria that your fish have never encountered before. Dropsy bacteria are in dirt. My fish that had dropsy, it started 4 days after I put a potted plant in the aquarium.

I am extremely impressed with this product. Now, I'm not master fish keeper, but I noticed right away when my little red betta wasn't being himself. He would float at the top of his tank almost looking dead, and he was developing cottony white patches on his little bum and tail fin. I did some research and found he had a fungal infection. This product was recommended at my local fish store, so I gave it a try.

He lives in a very small tank so I only put a tiny pinch in his water after doing a full water change. The next day, his white patches are almost COMPLETELY gone, and he's swimming around like he used to, eating enthusiastically, and has the life put right back in him.

This stuff is a life-saver! I'm impressed with how quickly it worked, and relieved I don't have to worry about my little guy any more.

Completely dissolves in the aquarium, doesn't cloud the water, and doesn't harm the healthy fish. Good price...much better than the local pet stores.

Want Mardel Maracyn-Two Powder Packets Water Treament (Freshwater), 24ct Discount?

My tank of barbs came down with a fast moving case of "Ick", courtesy of a new fish I put in the tank without isolating it properly in a "hospital tank" (my bad!). Fins of my fish were disappearing in just hours. I went to the local pet store and got a small box of Maracyn for twice the price of here on Amazon, and it saved all but one of my barbs, and the "patient zero" fish. I immediately ordered this 24ct box here in order to continue the treatment of the tank for another 10 days... worked like a charm!

I hope this helps in your tank crisis... act fast!

Coralife 01692 Digital Power Center

Coralife 01692 Digital Power CenterThey claim it to have 7 settings. Well it only runs on one 24 clock.. So either you have your daylight lights on or you nighttime lights.. You plus daylight plug into yellow and actinic/nightime into blue plus.. You set the timer for whatever time you want the white lights to run.. then the other nightime lights come on for the remainder of the time until its time for the whites to turn on again.

I bought this thinking i could program my daylights to come on at a certain time and then later in the day having my blue lights come on but nope.. doesnt work that way.. You can set it for different times of the week but thats it.. you cant have several times each day.. it was disappointing.. i finally got this answer from Coralife/Central who made this.

i'm returning my unit as i do not want a timer that runs 24 hours a day. dont make the mistake of buying this and thinking you can program different times. It runs 24/7 on one clock only.

This has an internal battery to keep the settings when the power goes out but that doesn't work too well so I plugged it into a battery back up and since then I have had no problems with it. I like this one better than the dial ones because there is no dial to hear clicking around.

Setup of the unit is fairly easy. If you have set a digital clock then this should be a breeze. My only concern is after returning the first unit which I thought to be defective I discovered that you 1 should let the unit cycle without having your timed items plugged in to let the internal clock sync with the digital clock. Example if you purchased the unit and set it up in the evening before you wanted the lights off telling it to turn on at say 8:00am and off in the evening at say 8:00. The internal clock will still be turned off even though you told it to turn on during this time. The next day at 8:00am the unit will turn on the lights, and will operate normally.

My other problem with this unit is on both units if the main power switch is on when you plug in or unplug items, such as power heads or the like, the sudden pull will short the clock out and reset all of your settings and the time as well. So if you needed to unplug a power head filter for some reason you will need to turn off the main switch to do so. Otherwise you will loose all of your settings.

Other than these two complaints the unit works fairly well and for me at least is worth the hassle to have such a compact unit.

I agree with an earlier post about the Battery Back-up being buggy. I bought one in late-Dec (it's now March 1) and it seems to just "lose" it's program for no apparent reason. The first time was while I was on vacation and all of my corals were left in the dark for several days (with one fatality). It's happened 2 or 3 times since then. We've not had any power-outages AND I've replaced the batteries in the unit just to play it safe. It still loses it's program arbitrarily. Kind of defeats the purpose of having an automatic light-timer!

I've emailed the manufacturer but no response :-(

Now I'm looking for a manual/dial-type of timer that (hopefully) I can rely on! I think I'll stay away from Coralife though.

Want Coralife 01692 Digital Power Center Discount?

All-in-all a wonderful unit and easy to program. Two pairs of outlets connected to separate timers and four continuously powered outlets. I use one daytime plug for my metal halide bulb and the other for a circulation powerhead. The nighttime plugs are set up for my moonlight LEDs and another, lower-flow powerhead. You can use the remaining four outlets for normal maintenance equipment(i.e. chiller unit, heater, air pump, UV filter, etc).

The only negative aspect of this unit (as well as many others) is the plug spacing when using transformer plugs (LEDs). I would have gladly given up a bit of space in my cabinet for two timed outlets spaced farther apart.

Proper Ph Water Conditioner

API Proper PH 7.5, 260gmI was using this before I changed to Malawi/Victoria Buffer for my African Cichlid's. It kept my tank at a good standing 7.5 pretty much all the time. My girlfriend uses it on her Beta tanks now. I use the other for my cichlid's now.

This is a must for Fresh Water Fish Tanks! It keep the proper pH to number seven! This is needed so you don't need to change your water so much in your fish tank!

I own a wide 55 Gallon Fish Tank in my big house! Since I live in Troutdale, Oregon, I used to have to Change my whole water once a month! But, the above solution helps Very much thus I don't have to change my water!

Fresh Water Fish Tanks Need to Stay in about pH Seven so the fish won't die! I highly recommend the above solution for all Fresh Water Fish Tanks!

Take Care,

453 nm Blue Cannon LED Pendant Light with Hanging Kit - 50w

453 nm Blue Cannon LED Pendant Light with Hanging Kit - 50wGreat Sps growth with 2 white, 2 blue over 100g tank about 2.5 feet above water surface (leaves lots of room over the tank). Because the white and blue light comes from different units, the light is not blended togetheryou can see blue or white only in areas of the tank. Very exciting neat look to me, but others think its unnatural looking. You can manipulate this by placement. 4 stars because price is too high IMO.

Marina Cool Starfish Airstone, Blue

Marina Cool Starfish Airstone, BlueIt works. Quite well actually. Cute little thing.

However after a few days, I changed the tubing. The connector did not let go of my tubing and instead pulled right out of this little airstone and I had blue pieces everywhere! :P

Verdict: It's unusable now, but it was great until the incident!

plenty of bubbles look very nice in the tank especially behind plants or flowers fishes seem to love it good for the price.
