I use this primarily for my reef nano aquarium.

pretty easy, convenient, and quick to perform tests. no test tube or droppers needed!

I have another test kit that tests other factors, and it is annoying to count the drops, shake, and check the color. This one tester is easier and more convenient to use. Only 4 factors on this tests is pertinent to a reef tank: nitrate, nitrite, ph, hardness/kh. However, I can test all 4 in the same time that it would take for me to count drops for a single test.

After a while, I got used to the husbandry needs of the tank. I can typically tell by the water quality by looking at the corals.

Once in a while I like to test the water to make sure, but typically, everything is in good shape. For these times, I also take a single test and cut it up into 2-3 smaller strips to use less. These seems to work fine, however, it is noteworthy to know that less water is probably being sampled, and it may be a not be an accurate measurement. So far, I have not noticed any problems.

Some of the colors are difficult to distinguish, so if anyone has any problems with matching shades of color, this can be difficult. At least when you count the drops, you can get a more accurate measurement (however, in some of the drop test, you still have to compare different shades of colors).

On of the difficult color readings in this tester is the ph, I have difficulty in distinguishing the readings. However, with a small nano tank and the amount of water I change every week, the kh level is normal which makes me less concerned on which of the 2 shades that my ph is in.

I've been using test strips for years. Sometimes I use Mardel Test Strips, but the latest batch is the Jungle brand. The difference between the two is these test for chlorine and the Mardels don't. Chlorine isn't a big deal for me right now. I guess I just reach for the first test strips I see as I run through the store.

Regardless, dip, wait a few seconds, read, wait a few more seconds and read the one that takes longer. No big deal.

I do confess that I reached a point where I didn't trust the strips. No particular reason other than random doubt. So, I bought Freshwater Test Kit and Freshwater Hardness Test Kit ('cause the other didn't test hardness). The new test kits have test tubes and droppers and stuff. Not tough to use, but not nearly as easy as the test strips. End result the test strips were fine.

Still, I'm glad to have verified the results. It took away one point of uncertainty.

I'm posting this review (slightly edited) for the Mardel strips too because I use both brands interchangeably.

We have an African Ciclid tank and that fish is particular about wanting hard water with a high pH. We find dipping these strips much more convenient and less messy than filling jars with water and counting drops of chemicals. We also don't worry about any chemical bottles getting into the hands of our children. The scale is not exactly precise so you might end up debating where your tank pH is sitting when the color on the strip is something between the colors on the scale. It seems accurate enough, the fish have no complaints. Read the directions. If you leave the strips for longer than 60 seconds before comparing the pads to the scale, be aware that many of the colors will continue to develop and readings will be incorrect.

I have previously used the Mardel 5 test strips, but based on a good price at the time and wanting it sooner(prime eligible) I went with this.

The strips work as most strips do. The only thing I don't like is that you have to peel the label away from the bottle to do the color match, but that is a lame thing for me to complain about.

The description is accurate it is what it is. Like all test strips, they expire, so getting a huge count of strips can be a waste of money. This seems like a good set to do a test dip twice a month or so.

Sadly, it is a booster seat rather than a console. The console benefit is he sat closer to me and would lay his head on my shoulder while I drove. Bought this for our 7 lb Chihuahua and when it arrived I was surprised to see that it doesn't have a flat base, there is a lip in the bottom of the foam near the back, which I believe is meant to keep the seat from sliding forward during quick stops. The problem is we have an 03 Explorer and the heater vents to the back seat are located along the top edge of the console. This lip covers the vents. I closed the vents, but the foam still gets very hot, and I just noticed that a small part of the foam had melted onto my console. This was easy to scratch off with a fingernail, but I'm going to take this off and try to augment it before reinstalling. The dog enjoys it, and when he's not with us it's easy to unstrap the front strap and let it slide to the backseat floor. Would recommend, but it may interfere with anything located on the upper back of the console.

This is a replacement for the first one I bought 6 years ago, which wore out from the liner being washed repeatedly. It fits perfectly on the center console between the two front seats in my 2005 Ford F-250 and carries up to a 25 lb dog. Good, durable material. Installation is not perfect, but attaches under the lid of the console beneath the carrier and in the back to the two front seat attachments and stays pretty well in place.

Very sturdy, our 10 lb. Shihpoo loves her seat with a view. Our 24 lb. Westie also loves it but he is a bit too big to fit comfortably. I would estimate that a dog up to 18 lbs might do well in this pet car seat. It is rated for 12 lbs which it certainly handles. This fits very well in our new Jeep Rubicon on the console.

I'm so glad I got this car seat. My 3lb Morkie puppy loves it. He can lay down and stretch out completely in it now, so he still has some room to grow. He stays so calm in the car and I can relax because I know he's safe. We travel 2 hours to and from our camp every weekend and he just sleeps most of the trip. He loves being close to us and being high enough to see outside. I love that it doesn't take up a "person seat" like most other pet car seats, so we can still have two people in the back comfortably. The seat is well made, easy to install, although a little bit of a pain to take out if you need to use a different vehicle. I would suggest getting two if you alternate vehicles often. All in all a great product, very well made, and worth the price!

We bought three of these for our beta fishies. The glass is beautiful and the quality is good. We decorated each differently with colorful gravel and plastic plants. They are gorgeous! The size is great for one fish and they are easy to wash. We've had them for a while and so far, no breakage. The bowls are very noticeable and we got many compliments. They do get heavy when we need to change the water, but we don't need to clean them too often because they are big (takes time for the water to get dirty). Fish and humans are very happy!!

This is a wonderful container for a terrarium. It has a nice shape and size. The glass has a good thickness to it. Its hard to describe without touching it but it has a really great feel to it.

Marina Betta Kit, Large

I just bought this betta kit. I realized after I got my betta that all of the plastic sides are reflective. He sees a perfect reflection of himself and becomes angry and agitated, as male bettas do when they see another betta. I think this was a poor design as he is continuously trying to scare off his reflection and seems very agitated. I will be buying a new container for him tomorrow. I am not impressed.

Well, I've heard success stories about bettas in small tanks, but after my last two I have to say... get a bigger tank. Treat the fish like an actual pet and get it what it deserves. I feel bad because I've had two fish die and now I realize why. I changed the water every week and fed them the best food. The problem is that bettas in bigger tanks have less ammonia and nitrites to deal with. A small betta in a small tank seems to do okay because they are hardy fish, but just wait. The first fish... ugh, I can't talk about what happened, it was gross. So I went all out for the second one. Bought the pre-conditioned Betta water, got a different tank because I wasn't sure the whatever it was that killed the last betta was completely dead, and picked out a young, healthy veil tail betta. It lived for eight months and died. Meanwhile, my boyfriend bought a betta THE SAME DAY, FROM THE SAME STORE that I got my first betta only he did not get this tank, he got a 3 gallon kritter keeper and a heater and some decor. He spent more than I did that day, but his fish is still alive.

If they just made these tanks 2.5-5 gallons they'd be great! If they installed heaters in them they'd be perfect... but really people, just use this tank when you're changing the water in your real tank. Amazon has a great 5-gallon by aqueon. It even has a filter. Just baffle the filter and put a pre-filter sponge on it, add a heater and you'll be good to go. That's what I've done now. I god some black sand, large river rocks, an amazon sword, java moss, and some drift wood... my tank looks beautiful and my new betta LOVES it. I only have to change 20% of the water since I cycled the tank, and I have a ghost shrimp to help keep the sand clean AND some neon tetras with the betta. It's much more peaceful, but if you want decor, try a 3-gal vase with crystal rocks and some bamboo or a plant. As for heat, they are tropical fish and do best in warm water, but if you keep your house warm, then you should be fine without a heater.

Got it for under $5 bucks from Amazon Warehouse deals and still had to return it because it was cracked. This tank is very flimsy and and very tiny. To call this tank 'Large' is a joke. Looks good, but no room for a filter, air stone etc. and no lid or light. For the $11 original price you can buy a 'real' 10 gallon glass aquarium. Do I need to say more? Check the dimensions and forget about this 'tank'.

This won't even hold a full gallon of water! It's much too small for a fish as big as a betta--the fish's fins would rot very quickly and doesn't give the fish room to exercise it's swim muscles. It'd have to be cleaned every single day just to keep the water clean. Yes, it's pretty to look at for the humans but it's not good for the fish living inside it. You might be able to keep a smail or a couple very small shrimp in here, but no fish.

It did not kill our invertebrates or corals, however after adding to the tank it caused our green star polyp and zoanthids to close up for over a week. Would not use it again because of that. If you have an aquarium, you need Cycle. Without it, you will very likely kill your fish in an attempt to cycle the water to safe levels. With it, you can get you water cycle process started quickly so that the fish do not perish in a new aquarium. When used regularly it can helps to keep the water in balance. I recently had high ammonia levels and found that I had to pour about half the bottle into the aquarium (12 gallon) in order to fix the problem, but it did work. Aquarium water can be very tricky to deal with and if you do not check it regularly or maintain it (vacuum debris, change filter as needed, test water) you will have problems. Cycle will help, but it alone will not keep the water healthy.

I have this overflow except it only has 1 U tube. I think my U tube is bigger. The overflow works fine. It's designed to maintain prime throughout the duration of a power outage. Mine had an internal leak that cause it to loose prime after about half an hour of no power. I fixed it with some PVC cement. I recommend you test yours for this leak before you leave the house with it running. Just get it going and then shut off your pumps. Then wait hours and watch the water level in the center chamber. It should stay at the top.

If you dump water into the center chamber quickly, air bubbles can go up the U tube and cause it to lose prime. When filling my tank with new water, I put the hose from the trash can into the hole in one of the sponge filters and that stops the bubbles from getting in there. You just always have to be mindful of prime when you are messing with it. If you cause it to lose prime, you sump will empty itself on the floor via your main tank. I guess that's why the U tube is clear. Being clear means you have to put a brush in it sometimes to clean out algae but at least you can see, at a glace, if you lost prime while you were adding water or moving it or whatever you are doing to it.

Easy install, put on tank adjust black box up or down to control water level in tank. Start siphon ( I have found it is easy to put a piece of airline tubing up the pipe and start a siphon and then pull out). Was a little loud, I removed the black sponge and put a piece of airline tubing down the hole and it did the trick (thanks to a youtube video) I have it on a 75 gallon tank with a RIO Plus 2500 rated at 782gph pump. Works great!!!!

This is overall pretty good. I never loose siphon, and with a diy "gurgle buster" this thing is pretty silent. However, this thing cannot be putting out nearly 800 GPH. I have an almost straight down PVC run into the sump with 2 elbows. So there is no restrictions on the outflow. I have a Rio return pump rated at 1090 GPH pushing 6 foot of head through 6 elbows and a check valve. At the head height (not mentioning the restrictions), the pump is rated at 660 GPH, and it would run my return chamber dry in less than a minute if I left it wide open. I am only looking for about 400-500 GPH of flow, so for my application this is ok. But if someone is looking for 800 GPH, you're not going to get it with this one.

I use 1/2 teaspoon in 2gal of tap water (plus water conditioner) for my 2gal Hex tank.

Micro Temp Controller Heater Controller (Mfg# AZ12037)

I bought one of these to control two heaters in my 55 gal. discus tank. At higher temps. it is inaccurate. This is only a minor problem after you recognize what it needs to be set at to get what you want. Another problem I had was that the instructions are pretty much useless. The temp. adjustment (through a small hole in the back) is difficult to set accurately. The setting display presents temperatures in degrees Fahrenheit without any decimals as it says in the manual. The readout normally displays degrees Celsius.

The really serious problem occurred this week. We had a brief power outage. When the electricity came back it had reset to a default setting of 78 degrees (too cold for discus). By the time I checked it in the morning, the temp. had fallen from 87 degrees to around 77 degrees. The fish were stressed, but fortunately looked better after a couple of days.

The idea of having a common controller for multiple heaters is an excellent one. I just wish this one worked better.

Update: It quit working completely after about a month. I returned it and got my money back.

Also this stuff is deceptively heavy 5 pounds of tiny rock weighs the same as one big five pound rock. Underwater it truly comes to life, with reds, ochres and creams that complement driftwood and plants very well. Because it's natural, you'll have some difficulty locating your patterned ground-dwellers in the tank. I have two albino and one bronze corydoras in one of my tanks. You can barely see the bronze guy. If that bugs you, choose a monochromatic gravel.

ProClear Aquatics Motorized 250 Gallon Protein Skimmer

Using a Pro Clear 250 on a 125 reef tank. While dirty foam is collecting inside the column, the pump does not seem to have enough "oomph" to push the foam up into the collection cup. Its been running for three weeks. Have tried every combination of water level and air intake. Best foam created with air intake valve removed (wide open air intake), and deepest possible sump water level, and water column pipe raised to highest level. Water temp is 80 degrees, specific gravity of 1.026. This is going back to the retailor-if they'll take it.

I was actually surprised on how well this skimmer works for the cost. I think that its a keeper!!

This is one of the prettiest plants I have for my fish tank and I have been washing it in oxyclean and reusing it for over 5 years. The only thing at all wrong with it is the little leave "pods" can come off their plastic "branches" but they snap back on. I love this plant and have been looking for it to replace the one I have since over time mine has lost a few of the leaves (down the drain when cleaning, etc.) But it does really lend a nice look to the tank and its great for the fish to hide in as it stays near the floor of the tank. We have used it in 50 gallon tanks and currently a 10 gallon tank, and I love it. One of my favorites.

Fluval Chi Boxwood and Tall Grass Aquarium Ornament

This is a perfect ornament for the Fluval Chi. As mentioned by another reviewer, it seems that people are confusing two separate items. The "Large Mountain" ornament is the larger piece that's meant to be placed in the submerged plant box inside the aquarium; the "Waterfall Mountain" is the smaller ornament that's meant to be placed in the pebble box/topper on top of the filter. My beta's tank was getting a little blah, so to speak, so I thought I'd spice it up a bit with a new decoration! I have the Fluval Chi 6.6g aquarium and just had some rocks in the basket with a bamboo sculpture in the middle of it. I came to amazon (my go to site that has never failed me) looking for something to spice things up a bit. I saw the Fluval Chi lily pad and plant decoration and thought that it would match perfectly with my beta, Petri. I read some reviews saying that the whole decoration just wouldn't stay put at the bottom and that it would float to the top which made me a bit weary. I decided to purchase it anyways because it just looked so cool and for $10, I figured I wasn't really going to lose much if it turned out to be a dud. Now, two days later, my decoration has arrived! Alas, the reviews about the whole piece floating turned out to be true. Luckily I used a tiny bit of brain power to apply a quick fix and you'd never be any wiser unless I told you. You see, there are spaces at the bottom of the grass piece because the grass "sprouts" in patches, if you will. So the spaces in between the grass are perfect little hiding spots for a few rocks. And as we all know, rocks sink! Ta-da! No more floating decoration. This turned out to be a much easier fix than trying to tie the whole thing down or just tossing it out and loosing $10 bucks. It now looks amazing in my tank and I do believe my beta has a bit of a spring in his swim, thanks to his new, spectacular decoration... (Although that may just be me attempting to apply human-like characteristics to an animal that could care none the less. But hey. At least one of us can truly enjoy it!)

Now I fill the tanks with three or four inches of water, place the ornament, and then pour the gravel in on top of it and spread it out. This weighs down the gridded bottom perfectly. Then I finish filling the tank with water. The two tendrils are absolutely gorgeous and provide a hiding place and as well as an engaging activity for the fish, who love to swim around and between them. It also helps me provide variety in my tanks, since the tendrils can be moved around, lengthened, and tangled gently as you see fit.) They are actually secured with a simple knot to the gridded plastic of the mat, so you can adjust them if you like (I made mine shorter.) They are a smooth, rubbery material that is seamless and provide no threat to betta fins. The leaves in the center are more of a burgundy than a fuscia as seen in the photo, but poseable and the fish like to rest on them. The colors look good with my blue, red, and black/purple fish. The lily pads are simple and realistic, which is nice, so they don't stand out. They give a nice Asian feel to the tank and I still have room to add a rock sculpture, bridge, elephant, or stack of pebbles. I am here now online again looking for similar accessories... I want an orange one! You can't go wrong with this tank decoration!

There is no indicator light to let you know if it is on or off. I watch my aquarium thermometer closely to monitor the temperature of the water when using this heater. The little turtles move the rocks away to sit on top of the unit ... I wish there was more of a "guard" in place. However, it is doing a good job of keeping the water 76-78F in the winter. Before I got this heater, the water was dropping to 68-70F even with a heat lamp.

Its one of the great heaters you can buy your turtle Ive had many heaters but this is one is way better then most .. I use it on my turtle tub which i also got on Amazon.com. 1. Make sure before you turn it on you let it adopt to the water temp. in the tub for at least 30 min to 1hr. For a area very cold make sure you have at least two of these heaters. will buy again if needed.

This heater is really nice for a small tank, like 5 gallons, but for any turtle tank your better off getting a larger heater because one, this heater has a set temperature you cant change(and on my 20 long I had my baby turtles in it was basically nothing) and two, there is no light to indicate if the heater is even running so you need to be very mindful of your tank when using this or your going to kill your animals. so overall its good for a small fish tank but anything bigger then a 10 gallon get something else

The instructions are unclear as to whether this heater can be fully submersed. I figured out that it can be, I think...but Im not sure. Hopefully it doesnt electrocute my animal.

The hard exterior works fine, and I havent had any problems yet. I like how it is hard for my animal to break.

The suction cups work about as well as suction cups ever do. My frog seems to know how to knock it loose fairly easy, as well as move it all around the terrarium, but when it comes time for me to remove it for maintenance, it seems like i cant remove it without the suctions cups coming off. Then you have to remove the sheath to place the cups back on. In the meantime, my frog is attacking my hand and trying to bite me.

I wish a reptile safe heater would be made with adjustable heat, as my frog would do much better at water temps of about 82 degrees F.
