Jardin Aquarium Fish Tank Battery Powered Portable Air Pump
It came with air line tubing and an air stone in case you need one. Nice to have that bonus.
The plastic case isn't the highest quality I have ever seen in a product, but the batteries fit in, the case closed and the pump worked, so hard to complain for less than $10.00!the best thing about this battery powered air pump is that it is cheep but it gets the job done i am glad that i got 3 of these pumps i have a 125 gallon tank with 3 full grown oscars in it this past year we had a power outage for 12 days and this pump kept them all alive one more comment for those that would like a light on your tank they make something that you plug your light into it will run it for about 24 hours but the batteries for it are nt cheep like $12 for just one

I didn't know what to expect when I bought this unit. I wanted it for a portable live bait pail. It works, but it's noisy and I'm not sure how it's going to hold up over time. The plastic is kind of thin and the battery contacts are as low quality as they could be made and still work. We'll see...

No complaints about this product, and not much to add to my title. I had to drive from Northwest Indiana to Kissimmee Florida (a good 17 hour drive, NOT including the periodic rest stops and gas stations) and this was one of 3 pumps I had going for my 3 containers of fish. As I said, this thing kept trucking along the entire trip, even well after we arrived to our destination. I'm not sure how much longer it would have lasted, but all I know is, I was STILL going when I decided to just put new batteries in while I kept the fish in their bins while I caught some zzz's.Great product. Great reliability.

I like this ornament it's cute and works great if you have valve to adjust the pressure. The other reviewer sounds like they have too much air pressure. Pretty cool ornament. Depending on the air-flow, it cycles every 10 to 20 seconds so the motion isn't too distracting. I would have given it 5 stars but the connector at the end of the tube came off. Tetra Extension Tube for Whisper 30 and 40 Filters
Buy Tetra Extension Tube for Whisper 30 and 40 Filters Now
Looked around for an extension, since I bought a deep 60 gallon hexagonal tank, you need a longer extension for the intake to get down into the tank for better filtration. I wish power filter companies would automatically include a long extension, especially since it wouldnt cost that much to include it anyway, but thank goodness you can get it here, on Amazon.Read Best Reviews of Tetra Extension Tube for Whisper 30 and 40 Filters Here
In the description it says that the tube will also fit 10-20 Whisper models. All LIES because it didn't fit at all! I was so happy because I looked everywhere and couldn't find this extension tube. Cal Pump PW2500 Direct Drive 2500 GPH Waterfall Pump
The price is right and it is so quiet you would never know it was there.
It works great for our pond and waterfall. Our pond is 3ft deep, 12ft across the diameter. We keep the pump on all year except for cleaning so I would expect to replace it in approximately 2 years.
This model did not have the cage around the bottom, but that didn't make a difference to me.
Hope this helps.

Just received this pump. I ordered it as a replacement for my existing pond pump. The pump does not have the suction stand/screen that is in the picture one of the reasons I bought it to minimize crud entering the pump. It also is not new it appears to have been disassembled (screwdriver marks at the casing seams along with evidence that some kind of sealant that was used).Read Best Reviews of Cal Pump PW2500 Direct Drive 2500 GPH Waterfall Pump Here

Aquaclear Foam Inserts, 3-Pack
A few bits of advice:
1) Use a pre-filter sponge over the intake for added biologocal activity as well as preventing small fish or shrimp from getting sucked into filter
2) Regularly (once a month) shake/squeeze both the pre0filter sponge you put on as well as the media from in the filter in water you JUST REMOVED from your tank when doing your regular water change. DO NOT rinse the media in tap water ro use hot or cold water period.
3) Once a month, unplug and unscrew the motor housing and remove the impeller and use an old toothbrush or cotton swab and clean both the impeller and the impeller housing.
These AquaClears are workhorses and the ability to tailor the filtration to your individual tank makes them invaluable.
5 starts on this one!I'm low tech so AquaClear's are all I've ever used on my smaller tanks. I use two foam inserts in the filter chamber. With my last two foam inserts, one seemed to break down much faster than the other. Hope these new ones hold up.

Not much to review here... just a sponge. I wanted them to use as prefilters for all of my HOB's. I took all 3 out of the box, cut a hole down the middle, so that the intake tube of my HOB filter, will slip inside of the sponge. Compared to a "job specific" sponge that my LFS wants $19 for, I get 3 of em for quarter the price!Read Best Reviews of Aquaclear Foam Inserts, 3-Pack Here
AquaClear is a great brand. The foam I got did seem a little cheaper quality than the foam that came with the filter. Since it came in a 3 pack, I used only one since they last forever and decided to cut up the others to fit my smaller filters.Out of this 3 pack and after cutting some up I ended up getting:
1 for my 70
2 for my 50
2 for my 30
and a home made slip for the tube so the fry don't get sucked up into the filter.
UPDATED 10/4/2012
I have 3 Aquaclear 70 filters and I have gone through about 3 boxes not even in one year. The replacements continue to fall apart just after 2 months. The last time I bought was the worst quality yet. I'll be looking into something else for now.
*The original foam that came with the filter is still excellent and still using it, it's just the replacements that are crap*it is a rly good product and the filter is the best in my experience. they last long but i use 2 and the bio bag.

Petco Frosted Black Aquarium Gravel, 5 lbs.
Buy Petco Frosted Black Aquarium Gravel, 5 lbs. Now
I bought a bag of this at my local Petco store and from the day I put my aquarium together, I knew I wasted my money. It's hard to see while still in the bag, but before you start using it the paint is already coming off. This is really bad because the synthetic material underneath is white. Being under water makes it look even worse. I left this in the tank for three months because I hate the thought of wasting my money and I was hoping is wouldnt get any worse. It did. During the few months I had it, my water was always cloudy with no chemical imbalances. and when I noticed the gravel was still losing paint, I decided enough was enough. After three months I replaced it with a new bag I got from my locally owned pet store. I think the brand was "Estes'" or something like that. Ever since then, my water has been so clear I can't even tell it's there.Heed my advice, buy a brand your local pet store recommends!

I love the jet black as gravel color. It makes my aqua-scaping and fish POP. The green of my plants looks brighter and my fish also seem brighter. I also like that uneaten food is highly visible for removal after feedings. My only warning it that I had to rinse this stuff until I was blue in the face. When I first thought I was done, I began adding water to my 30 gallon and my water turned dusty black. I had to start all over again. Also, speaking of plants. the size of this gravel has been perfect for my Anubias, Amazon sword, and two other live plants to grow roots in. When I move the plants to vacuum the gravel a golf ball sized chuck of gravel stays with the roots. But if need be, the gravel is larger enough to easily remove from roots without damaging them (Like if you were going to move the plant into a tank with a different gravel color, or a cichlid tank with sand).
I certainly recommend this product.I love when my orders come exactly as advertised and this is making my planted aquarium look great right now. Check out my channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/kgladie?feature=guide and you can see exactly what the gravel looks like.

Coralife 05509 Mini Compact Fluorescent 50/50 Colormax Lamp, 10-Watt
Pros:
-gives off a lot of light
-makes your tank look really good, you can really see fish coloration
-uses very little electricity
-does not generate much heat
Cons:
-don't seem to last long, 3-4 months usually (I have purchased them from Amazon, and from a couple of local pet stores-they all seem to have the same lack of longevity no matter where they come from)
-you will need a dark hiding spot for anyone who doesn't
like to be in the bright light
-I have higher green algae growth, vs 'yellow' incandescent bulbs
-does not generate much heat (only bad if you do not use a heater and rely on the bulb to warm your water)
This review may only legally be shown directly on Amazon.com.
Edit 4/4/2011: Rating lowered to 2 stars. These bulbs are not as waterproof or water resistant as they should be, I went to change one of these that went out (I keep a couple of incandescent bulbs for temporary use when one of these dies) and I could smell the odor of burnt plastic coming from the tank hood. I removed the bulb and found scorch marks on the plastic base where the glass tube enters. The bulb had accumulated water inside the base (which came out black) and I'm guessing caught fire.
After multiple attempts to contact them the manufacturer will not respond to inquiries about why these bulbs do not last very long or why the one bulb was not appropriately waterproof or water resistant. I don't think I will be buying more of this bulb-unless the manufacturer decides to reply to my questions and stand behind their product, or improve it.I have been using this bulb for about a couple weeks now and It works great! When I had my original incandescent lighting that came with the lid of my aquarium, it looked very yellow which didn't look amusing...After installing 2 of these in my 10 Gallon tank, the whole tank just lit up and I can see everything in a more natural setting. The white/blue light went perfect for my aquarium. The fishes are brighter, plants are more vibrant, and my water looks a lot clearer too! I have freshwater tropical fishes and it is just looks good! Imagine a saltwater tank underneath these lights! Although I should of gotten the 20 Watt instead of the 10 watt. Oh well, Next time...I would recommend this light, if you want a cheap up-grade, for around $8 bucks, it's well worth the look of your tank or whatever your using it for.

This bulb gives off plenty of light and almost no heat whatsoever. It does make the aquarium looks nice, but I don't like how it makes my fish look. The blueish tinge to the light makes them look sickly next to the other aquarium with a white CF. I suppose it is a personal like or dislike and really has nothing to do with the bulb because it does work as advertised.Want Coralife 05509 Mini Compact Fluorescent 50/50 Colormax Lamp, 10-Watt Discount?

SO while this works, I wouldn't recommend others do it if they can afford the FX series for water turtles. This is best for fish, and haven't had any problems with my feeder fish getting into this filter.

I also used to buy these at PetSmart and was so disappointed they stopped carrying them (their new brand doesn't even put glucosamine in its senior vitamin treat..???). I would give this a 5 star rating if it was just based on how much my 23 year old cat loves these treats! The description didn't give the "dosage" which is recommended on the package as 5 a day---YIKES!!!---so they don't last very long. I have found that they are a little too large for her to "grab" in one bite but you can break them in half easily enough with just a fingernail. They are a little on the stinky side but not too bad. She loves the flavor and they seem to be perking her up a little bit. She's pretty finicky when it comes to things like this so I am very pleased that she likes something that seems to be helping her. I reordered and got 2 bags this last time (I'm an optimist...we don't plan ahead on a lot for an ancient kitty like Willow lol). The seller also ships quickly.Wednesday, January 1, 2014
Hydrofarm AAPA25L Air Pump with 8 Outlets
I've only bought two other air pumps from Hydrofarm: a single and a double outlet. The single-outlet Hydrofarm was the first air pump I bought ever, and it only failed because I unknowingly placed the pump on the ground and it sucked up water. If you read the directions, there are even pictures stating not to place the pump below water levels. For whatever reason I decided to try other brands. I still have a 2-outlet Hydrofarm and a few other AquaCulture single & double outlets: the Hydrofarm has now become my first backup and the AquaCulture (with plastic nozzles) are my backup's backup.
My garden grew to the point 1 and 2 outlet aquarium air pumps didn't fit the bill. I needed something that could push significantly more air than an aquarium air pump, but I was annoyed with far divide between commercial and residential air pumps. I needed something that pushed a lot of air but didn't make a lot of noise: I even thought of buying a commercial air pump and running a 70 foot airline so I didn't have to hear it. I was really between a rock and a hard place so I took a chance on this 8-outlet pump.
I don't know what I was expecting. My first Hydrofarm air pump had 2 outlets and was about the size of a softball. The single was about the same size.
One day I came home and saw this box on my porch that looked like it could fit a Jack Russell Terrier. I was waiting on 2 or 3 different Amazon orders, but I didn't order anything that should look like that. I lifted the box and the weight felt like there could have been a small dead dog in there. Anyway I opened the box, and the freaking pump is the size of a watermelon! A damn watermelon of an air pump!! A behemoth with 8 ports.
It's been running 2 months now 24/7 with no problems. I wasn't sure how I was going to divide the air: I assumed I might have to spoil one plant with two outlets, but each port puts out enough to really beat your roots if you don't diffuse them with airstones or similar. I finally gave up on airstones because I can't find any that are quality, so 1 outlet on each plant with the dial turned to 40-50% output is better air than they've ever gotten before.
Noise was also a concern. If you want to keep these pumps as silent as possible, each outlet has to be running somewhere, even if the airline isn't connected to anything. If you compared the noise of the 2-outlet and 8-outlet Hydrofarm air pumps, they are both extremely quiet, but each of the outlets has to be used (if nothing more than airline running away from it). I'm using all 8 outlets on this air pump and it is extremely quiet: any outlet on either pump without airline makes a very noticeable annoying vibration. One can easily be louder over the other just based on if you're using all the ports. When all the ports are used properly it makes the sound of a small refrigerator ... so you can be 10 feet away and barely notice it.
I knew residential air pumps were lacking performance and I know commercial air pumps would be way too noisy. This pump is the best both worlds without the negative of either. If I need more air I will likely buy another one of these before I upgrade to a noisy commercial pump.I bought two of these, haven't hooked the second one up but the first one has more push than I even really needed, and it functions without creating a tremendous amount of noise. I'm glad I bought this product.
As for the person whose air pump didn't work, how about reviewing after contacting the manufacturer? Defective products happen, and Hydro Farm is perhaps the most reputed supplier in the arena of hydroponics. I'm sure they would be happy to replace the product and/or issue a refund.

This arrived way sooner than I thought it would, and from the moment I tried it, I loved it. It's not very loud; in fact, it's quite quiet. There's plenty of pressure to power all 8 outlets, and you can even "T" a couple off if you need to. Overall, great product, highly recommend!Quiet and Strong. Each outlet is individually and evenly pressured. You can run (T) valves on one outlet without taking pressure from the other outlets. It does not create excess heat either. It may be a little louder than my old whisper 2 but not noticeable if you have had small aquarium pumps before. I'm very happy with it.Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Eheim Pro 3 Aquarium Filter Model 2073
I emailed them and immediately the next day I received a reply asking for the Serial number, the shipping address and the retail store from which I bought the filter. I replied with the information and that was the last I heard from them. I have sent them 4 more emails since then and they completely ignored them. I have been another victim of their scam.
Apparently Eheim is engaging in fraudulent acitivities, marketing their filters as "Premium" products that come with a 3 year warranty. However, they will try their best NOT to honor the warranty. Maybe I need to call them everyday and write nasty letters to get them to acknowledge my issue. I know some of their victims have received a replacement head unit this way after sending threatening emails and making repeated phone calls. However, it shouldn't have to be this difficult.
I have another Pro 2 filter that also leaked after 6 years of operation. From what I have heard, the company was bought and the quality of customer service has become horrible since then. It is now reaching the point of fraud.
I will never buy another Eheim product again. Beware!!!Works great on my wife's Goldfish Tank (There are dirty little bugers)
Once I got the Hang of the start up feature (push the button and it sucks water into the filter) for start up with little cavitation.

I've owned two eheim canister filters the most recent being the Pro3. Both were disappointing! While they do have lots of room for media when they work they work well. The problem is that they are difficult to prime and in my experience they were nothing but a problem. Both units failed to maintain flow. The unit would be operating normally producing a good steady flow. I would come back a few hours later and it would be coming out in a trickle. I would reset and again it would produce a nice flow. Few hours later a trickle. I contacted tech support requesting assistance in trouble shooting the problem...no response after several attempts. I'm done. I'm done with eheim! I'll never buy one again.I've had this filter for over a year. Recently had a problem where I could not get the nozzles to eject from the motor head. This was very frustrating I had moved the lever to the release position, pushed on the red button, and the nozzles would not pop off. I eventually tore the entire filtering system out of the tank and brought the whole set up to the sink to take a closer look at the problem. After a frustrating couple of days, I did find an Eheim sales rep and she told me that when reinserting the nozzle fixture back into the motor, the lever on the motor needs to be totally in the release position (not half way, not partial way). If the lever is not entirely in the release position, pushing the nozzle fixture into the motor will cause misloading and you will never be able to get the nozzles out of the motor again. End of story need to get an entirely new motor head! I looked on the Eheim site and never saw any reference to this problem. Anyway, just a fyi. I got my motor replaced for no charge and now I am very careful when inserting the nozzles back into the motor. Don't rush and make the same mistake I did. Other than this problem, I love this canister filter. It is my first and I hope the last filter I will ever need. Filtration is fantastic, prefilter works great, and I can get this thing cleaned out and attached back to the tank with little effort and no mess.
