Marina Stainless Steel Thermometer

Marina Stainless Steel ThermometerContrary to the reading on this thermometer, my aquarium is not always 90+ degrees. Everything would be dead if that were the case. What a rip off!

i was happy enough when i first got this thermometer. i liked that it hangs over the side. however, after a while the glass tube began to slide down and since the makings are on the metal bracket it's difficult to know what exactly the temperature is suppose to be. why not a huge deal i am wishing i would have shelled out a little more for a different thermometer.

I have an ibc that I am watching the temperature in. I tied this to some fishing line & drop it down in the tank. I have to pull it out to read the temp, but it works well for me.

I had one of these when I was in fifth grade in the early eighties and setting up my first aquarium; it looks exactly the same as back then. A break from the glass tube sort of thermometers.

The position of the clip on this thermometer interfered with my aquarium hood so I took the clip up top and bent it around backwards so the thermometer hangs in the background of my aquarium instead of the foreground.

I use it to measure room temperature rather than the aquarium. I've used a few over my 26 years of fish keeping.

EasyPro EP200 Submersilbe Mag Drive Pump, Max Flow 200 Gallons-Per-Hour

EasyPro EP200 Submersilbe Mag Drive Pump, Max Flow 200 Gallons-Per-HourI guess its times to give a review. I bought this pump close to a year ago. It has ran 24/7 ever since, and pumps well. The only complaint I would have it does not have much of filter, so sediment and other junk overtime reduces the water volume so about every 6 weeks I have to manually clean, no big deal, but yuck.

Aquatop Aquarium Air Pump AP50

Aquatop Aquarium Air Pump AP50I didn't realize that the air pump I owned was not performing correctly until I purchased an aquarium bubbler and it wouldn't work. I thought maybe not enough air was being pushed through the tubing. I was right. As soon as I hooked up this little air pump the bubbles were all over the place. My fish were happy for the much needed oxygen! :)

Aquarium Tank, Glass, 20 Gal

Aquarium Tank, Glass, 20 GalI have had big 55 gallon fish tanks that have lasted years. I recently decided to have a tank again for my office but not as big. So I looked on amazon and decided on purchasing this 20 gallon tank. It did take longer to arrive but was packed expertly and nice heavy glass not like some pet stores that you would find. Heavy thick glass and well bonded/welded contruction at the seams! This should last forever!! Well worth the money!! Thank you !!

All around good tank Worth the money and extra expenses such as filter, substrate, hood, heater, and fish. Total set up cost between $280-300. Only small complaint is some of the caulk attach the bottom rim to the aquarium is excess and slightly visible if one is to really pay attention.

God Bless

The tank is very nice. Nothing feels cheap and you should have no problems at all for whatever purpose you may use it for whether it be cage pets, or fish.

I purchased this aquarium and upon arivial i found the end of it was shattered. I understand things happen in shipping but was still very disappointed. I tried to return it through the amazon site but ran into complications. if you return items from an independent company like carolina biological supply company contact them. don't go through the amazon site. my package was lost for a while until a friend that works at the shipping company (which name i won't mention) tracked the package and found the label to be wrong the Problem was fixed and i did revieve a refund and a coupon from this company apologizing for the inconvenience. Over all the aquarium was very nice and seemed will worth the money had it not been shattered.

Aqueon AQE17102 Evolve Desk Top Aquariums Tank, 8-Gallon

Aqueon AQE17102 Evolve Desk Top Aquariums Tank, 8-GallonHello Everyone,

I purchased the Evolve 8 a few weeks ago because the design is much more aesthetically pleasing compared to most of the nano-tanks out there. I really like how the sump and filter pad is hidden behind the tank. However, I did notice that the sump is INCREDIBLY LOUD!!! However, I found a very easy fix for this that I wanted to share with everyone. If you are incredibly OCD like me and don't like the loud buzzing this tank makes, follow the instructions below to eliminate the pump sound.

Step 1

Go to Lowes and buy the pond pump filter below (I picked it up for under $12.00):

Smart Pond Water Garden Replacement FilterStep 2

Pull the sump out of your tank and remove the suction cups on the bottom

Step 3

Take the black foam piece out of the Garden Replacement filter and wrap it all around the sump. (You can use the blue piece instead, but the black one will let more water into the sump)

Step 4

Place the now foam covered sump back into its compartment in the Evolve tank. The sump may start making some noises at first, when it starts to prime itself, but after a few seconds the buzzing should go away and you'll be left with a dramatically more tolerable low level humming noise (about the same as you'd experience on a normal canister or cascade filter).

Step 5

Enjoy your beautiful AND QUIET Aqueon Evolve nano tank!!!!

I'm sure this technique will work on all of the Aqueon models. You can always trim off some of the black foam to get it to fit into the smaller compartments in the Aqueon Evolve 4 and 2. The Garden Replacement Filter is HUGE compared to the sump so don't worry if you make a mistake. You'll have a lot of material to work with. Hope this helps!

I've just set up my Aqueon Evolve 8 on my desk in my office, and I am thrilled with it so far. It is somewhat less than 8 gallons, but there is ample room for 6-7 small fish. I have read several complaints about the pump being noisy, but mine makes almost no sound at all just a low hum that is easily ignored in an office environment. I love that all the "ugly" parts, like the filter and pump, are hidden in the black compartment so it looks really nice on my desk. There was also ample room to add a heater so I can keep tropical fish. My only complaint is that the lid doesn't sit very securely on the top of the tank; it is easy to knock in if you are messing with it much, but that is only a minor problem. I definitely recommend the Aqueon Evolve 8 to anyone looking for a small and attractive aquarium.

Buy Aqueon AQE17102 Evolve Desk Top Aquariums Tank, 8-Gallon Now

1. as many have stated, 8 gallons it is not, calculations put it at 5 usable. Inside tank dimensions are: W 11 3/8, D 8 3/4, H 11 5/8

2. as many have stated, but to the contrary, mine (the stock pump) is NOT loud, it is quite quiet. The bubbler is 10 times louder. The only thing I can think of is if people are positioning the pump touching a wall, then the vibrations may get amplified. Mine is in the center on the bottom.

3. * does not include heater or bubbler. BTW, the pump, heater, and bubbler fit in that sump area quite nicely (ie snug, but doable)

4. It's a good looking little unit. Once I'm moved into my new place I will be purchasing another for a small saltwater tank :)

**Edit: so after 6 months or so the pump did end up getting LOUD, real loud, tiny machine gun loud. Replaced it with Ehiem 300. The output diameter is bigger, but it was an easy fix, the stock hose size fits snug into the hose that comes off the new pump (hose bought at hardware store). I was worried about to much flow (currently housing a beta) so I drilled a small hole in the side of the hose to relieve some pressure, which just feeds back into the sump area. Still a great tank, working on creating space for another one.

I just put it together and it seems like a nice aquarium kit. It includes the light, air pump, and filter. No heater is included, but the instructions advise buying the Aqueon miniheater which has suction cups and can be put in the back box, along with the submersible pump, which also has suction cups.

I'm unsure if the filter will be adequate, since it's just powered by the air pump flowing water through the filter cartridge. I'll add to this review if there's a problem.

The instructions for assembling the filter apparatus were inadequate, but it wasn't difficult to figure out.

The kit also included a small fish food sample and some water conditioner.

***

August 14, 2012. The light seems to have dimmed somewhat over time.

Also, I bought the recommended Aqueon miniheater, but I think it's better for a 10 gallon tank. It kept raising the temperature to 84 degrees F, which is a bit higher than the recommended temperature range for tropical freshwater fish.

Another problem is that the tank warped a bit after water was in it for a while. The lid no longer snap fits on it.

***

October 26. Part of the LED light went dark and part started flickering. Had to switch the light.

***

November 12. The company replaced the lamp for me at no cost, including shipping.

Want Aqueon AQE17102 Evolve Desk Top Aquariums Tank, 8-Gallon Discount?

I chose this tank since I prefer acrylic tanks over glass. Easier to maintain!

The good:

The size

The design is nice

Despite terrible instructions, the tank was relatively easy to set up

Lots of room to put a heater (in the back slot by the pump)

Everything is going well so far

The bad:

The pump is crazy noisy. Lucky to those who didn't get one that is...

The force of the pump is WAY to much. I watched a video that suggested drilling holes in the line to the pump to slow down the blast that was bullying my poor betta around. It worked very well!

The instruction didn't tell you were to put stuff, what comes in the box... nothing. It gave me more tips on a successful tank then the one I was trying to set up.

Last, but surely not lest, the lid... it slides off and goes in the water way to often.

I still give this tank four stars. It is nice and works well, there is just a few bothersome points for me personally. I felt annoyed that every time I tried to adjust the pump I lost another suction cup, which could be the leading reason why it is so noisy. I can't get my hand down the back all the way to the bottom to get them out.

I would recommend this tank to someone who is not going to get as frustrated by the "small stuff" as I did :)

Hagen Laguna Skimmer Filter

Hagen Laguna Skimmer FilterHaving never installed a skimmer before, this was a learning experience. Fortunately, the product made the job much easier than I expected. Not saying there weren't a few hassles but again, much easier than I thought it would be. The box has a very simple design and is roomy enough in the back to hold my submersible pump down at the bottom under the brushes and also my submersible canister. A few tips...

When you dig your skimmer hole, make sure the mound in front goes flush with the front of the skimmer face. The instructions show it protruding out but I don't see the benefit of this and there is a chance it could hinder the skimmer door from opening and closing

Also, when you cut your liner where the skimmer will hook up (scary I know) try to be as accurate as possible of course but don't make such a big deal about being too accurate. I think it's better to cut the opening a bit smaller than anything else because it is imperative you have enough liner there to clamp into the opening.

The silicone they give you is kind of a hassle to work with. I found it got everywhere but as long as you glob enough around the edge of the perimeters (between where the screw holes are and the edges it should seal good enough. You'll find they give you plenty so don't worry about it running out. Also, when you go to screw the clamp down over the liner, make sure your liner doesn't slip out as this will prevent sealing. Keep it pushed in nice and snug on top and bottom before you puncture the liner with the nail and run your screws through.

Lastly, if you've got a nice Firestone 45 mil liner like I do, you'll find it somewhat difficult to drive the nail through (make sure your lined up to the holes right and not ramming the nail against the side of the skimmer box itself) and you'll find it even more difficult to push the bolts through the small holes made by the nail. In my opinion, this is a good thing. It means your liner is nice and sturdy and the holes are tight enough to keep a good seal there where the liner meats the bolt. Just make sure you hold your placement of where you punctured using the nail until you get the bolt lined up with your other hand before pulling the nail out because it can be difficult to see once you remove the nail. Use some gloves and apply as much pressure as you can by hand to push the bolts through. Again, make sure you're lined up right with the screw and the holes in the box.

My ~1000 gallon pond is currently crystal clear with this skimmer, a 1500 GPH pump, and a basket of lava in my waterfall. I'm tripling the size of my pond this fall, and I doubt I will have to change the filtration system one bit.

This is a bit flimsier than I thought it would be, but once it's in the ground it seems sturdy. It's a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be, too. My fish constantly swim into it, but I don't think there's much that can be done about that (since many of my fish are smaller than leaves), and it doesn't do them any harm. Besides fish, it has completely rid my pond of leaves, both on the surface and underwater (It catches them before they sink). Previously leaves were a huge problem that required daily maintenance, as my pond is in a wooded area.

There is plenty of flow to prevent the pump from running dry, even when I let it go for a couple weeks without emptying the nets. I installed a float switch on my pump to be safe, but it probably isn't necessary.

Best of all, though this seems horribly over-priced for what it is (I was underwhelmed when I received it), it's much cheaper than other manufacturers' pond skimmers. I reasoned that since this was easier to use and required less maintenance than my attempts at home-made sump boxes, and that my time is worth money, this skimmer is a bargain.

Zoo Med ReptiCare Ceramic Infrared Heat Emitter 100 Watts

Zoo Med ReptiCare Ceramic Infrared Heat Emitter 100 WattsI use this product to keep the water in my chicken coop from freezing. It works well and doesn't effect the sleeping habits of the chickens because it emits no visible light. If you're unsure about what wattage to get you can compare the heat of this, to the heat a traditional light bulb puts out.

Shipped on time. My dog Shamus loves it. I tried putting a light bulb in his house but it was so bright he slept outside even when it was freezing. Now with the emitter his house is comfortable warm. I considered getting the 150W but decided on the 100W and I think it works fine. I think the 150W would be too hot. This is basically what the sold as a dog house heater but without the metal covering. Wish I have known about it years ago.

I have three 100W Ceramic Heat Emitters for my two snakes and my bearded dragon. Two for the snakes are kept on dimmers that keep the temperatures right where they need to be. The one for my bearded dragon keeps the 40 gallon breeder tank right at the temperatures she needs and keeps her basking spot around 105 degrees. The CHE is approximately 15 inches above her basking spot. This brand has worked great so far, and I've had all three around two months and they are still going strong, which is a lot better than the regular red infrared bulbs I was using before that only lasted around a month and a half.

Several heaters in different locations distribute the heat better. The chickens love them, whereas they Hated the red heater light I used one night.

One package contains enough product (Pollutant reducing media pad or filter) to make two 9 inch diameter filters for our fish pond. There are maybe 2-3 too many fish in the pond--it is small. So I am having to either clean or replace the filter much more often that anticipated. This is the prefect solution right now. So much better than $19 per 9 inch filter!

Aqueon 34500 ProFlex Sump Model 1, 44-55-Gallon

Aqueon 34500 ProFlex Sump Model 1, 44-55-GallonMy 77-gallon Aqueon bowfront tank now holds 10 discus, fish sensitive to water condition.

So, I bought the ProFlex Sump which has kept my tank crystal-clear now for months. There is very little maintenance; actually, none unless you want to fool around with the thing.

I made one improvement, I think it is an improvement, anyway. I added several hand-cut filter media in the receiving tray. Every other week, or so, I take the media and wring it out in cold water. That's about it.

Oh, also, I bought some extra bio-balls which I used to completely fill the middle section.

After reading about the fantastic results from bio-balls I was a bit skeptical how could a bunch of plastic balls clean water. Well, somehow (allegedly anaerobic animals gobbling up the poop and pee) it all works out and I have a great looking tank with exotic discus, lots and lots of plants (about 40 or so), snails up the gazoo (which came free as hitch hikers from the lady I bought the plants from) and something really pleasant to look when I'm bored.

About the snails. These things breed like rabbits. This sump has two filter bags in the primary cell. It seems that the snails really love living in these bags because there seems to be a gajillion of them in there. All sizes, too. I guess these snails help out the anaerobic baboons in the clean-up process. I don't bother them much. Just leave 'em in there.

All-in-all I am very happy with this item and I'm also very happy that I started maintaining a fish tank after a 55 year hiatus.

This was a great product and just as described. I received this item right own , time and it was used just as they described..
