Zoo Med Ultra Sun Trichromatic Super Daylight 6500K Fluorescent Bulb T8 15 Watt, 18-Inch
Highly recommended for anyone who needs a new Aquarium light. Will definitely order again.Very nice product. I did not use it in an aquarium...I built a "happy light" out of it (for winter blues). Bulbs are made in Germany and seem to emit the UV spectrum as advertised; A UV sensitive bead my child brought home from school indicated this. A similar bulb, bought from a big-box pet store did not emit UV waves, despite the packaging saying it did.

I don't know about the UV waves but this bulb brings a whole new look to my aquarium. Now it is brighter and all the colors are vibrant. It looks so good that now I have to replace the other bulb to match it.Great light for a 10 gal tank with medium to low-light plants. My plants have experienced excellent growth. Don't keep the light on for more than 9 hours or you will see algae. Planted tanks are a balancing act. Find the right amount of light, the right fertilizer, and the right stocking amount, and your tank will glow with green. This light certainly helped me achieve that. Highly recommend this light for a 10 gal tank.Received product about 2-3 weeks, shipping was slow than expected. Item as described and very good, brighter than normal bulb which sale at local fish store. I bought 2 extra bulb just in case...noticed it's 2x the original price I bought it for ($8.35).Friday, November 7, 2014

Midwest Tropical 675 Square Aquarium Coffee Table
The acrylic tank is square but once filled with water the sides protrude outwards, losing its shape, making it look much less square than when there is no water in it. Having a glass tank would have solved this problem. Also the acrylic is very vulnerable to scratches. When removing the rocks to clean it you must be VERY careful. If you scratch the sides of the tank, it will look cloudy and visibility will be permanently decreased. Had it been glass, this wouldn't have been a problem.
Another thing, you must not use a heater otherwise the entire top will be foggy and you will not be able to see inside the tank. If you aerate the water or cause motion in the water, you will find condensation underneath the glass top and it will bubble up and start dripping into the tank again. If you use the included carbon filter you will also have a cord running across the room to the nearest outlet. A light fits discreetly underneath the tank and the rocks do a good job of dispersing the light quite evenly, however you've got another cord. There is about a 6" opening in the center of one of the black bottomed sides to easily slide in the light and remove it when necessary. The glass top is well made.
Overall it's a beautiful piece, but it doesn't work for everyone. This product improved my life vastly. Before purchasing the Midwest Tropical 675 Square Aquarium Coffee Table, I had serious problems melding my twin love of coffee tables and fish. Like most men, I tried making a coffee table out of a taxidermied Mahi-Mahi, and like most men I failed.

Hagen Nutrafin Max Feeding Ring with Suction Cup
Basically, if you have an irrational fear about putting the styrofoam insert in your tank...don't even bother buying this product.
If you do buy one, it works as designed. Your fish will learn to eat out of it. My Blue Moon Angel attacks it as soon as I put the food in. He also has removed the styrofoam from one before...with no ill effects.
I have a drain in each corner of my 220g Marine tank...I put the ring in the center of the tank...it allows the food to fall straight down into the tank...instead of going down the drains.
The only drawback with this product is that it will probably only last 1 2 years before the suction cup stops performing its job.
So every 1 2 years I buy a new one. Its better than letting all the food drain into my sump.I really like this product and rarely write reviews, though I saw that some people have posted negative reviews and thought to make some comments about this product. I position the feeder ring on the opposite side of the filtration in my aquarium (I have both external and internal filtration types and have successfully used these rings for both). The rings REALLY help to contain the food that falls to just one side of the aquarium. This not only gives my bottom feeders a chance to eat but also helps to keep my filters clean (not plugged with extra food) then they otherwise would have been had the food been allowed to fall willy-nilly all over the bottom without the containment. I bought my rings from Petsmart (at closer to $4.00/each). I own three of them now and am looking to buy more for the other five aquariums that I have set up (pleco's are breeding like crazy). Please note that this product is NOT a fish feeding device, but a food containing one. Helpful for any aquarist that wishes to extend the life of their filtration between cleanings and ensure more even food distribution through their water column.

I love these little rings. I don't have any problems with positioning it. A couple of times it has tilted but doesn't take even a second to tap and straighten before putting food in it. I have two external filter systems and they create a lot of movement of top water which causes food to sink immediately. These save food and keep bottom cleaner. Sounds like some users may have large fish that may like to play with the ring. I have seen my large pleco mess with it to get stuck pieces off the edges. What do you expect for a couple of dollars? Concept is excellent for the value. I am very satisfied with my purchases.Read Best Reviews of Hagen Nutrafin Max Feeding Ring with Suction Cup Here
I had a problem. When I fed my fish, the water current would sweep the food pellets into the filter. The poor fish's food was gone before he even noticed it was there!Hagen Nutrafin Max Feeding Ring with Suction Cup to the rescue. It's a simple and effective solution. Just press the suction cup to the side of the tank, at the top of the water. The ring will float (do not remove the styrofoam underneath it! That's the floating mechanism!). Then, just sprinkle the food flakes or pellets within the ring. They will remain inside the ring even though the water is flowing around it. (Until they eventually get saturated with water and sink.)
Not only did this product solve my food-in-the-filter problem, it helped me track how much my fish needed to eat. I can walk away from the tank after feeding, come back a few minutes later, and see how much food he left untouched. (Before, it would have scattered all over the tank or gone into the filter.) This helped me figure out the right portions for mealtime.

I bought this product from a PetSmart store and although the concept is good, it still needs a little work. The ring itself won't seem to float evenly. One side dips under the water level so when I put the food in, it simply floats right out of the ring. I've tried playing with it to see if different things will even it out but when the fish come to eat, they move it a little and everything shifts around anyways. The underside of the product is hollow so air is trapped underneath the entire ring causing it to float. In the packaging it came with a styrofoam insert in this gap.. I'm assuming you're suppose to take it out because I personally wouldn't put styrofoam in my fish tank (although that would probably solve the uneven floating, that doesn't seem safe for the fish). There are no real directions besides two drawings and no warnings at all on the product.
So it's an OK product but still could use some work try it if you want but I'm thinking of returning mine.

Malaysian Driftwood
When it arrived boy was I happy, I was hoping for a sort of L shaped driftwood that would provide shelter for my fish and I got exactly what I wanted. I was quite surprised at how lucky I was. I purchased the small one and it measured out to be about 11 inches and looks beautiful in my 10 Gallon tank. The driftwood itself is very beautiful and has a brown/tan color to it.
It is real driftwood so you have to boil/soak it before you put it in the tank or else it will tint your water brown. I soaked mines in hot water for 1 full week and it leached quite a bit of tannin. Even when I put it in my tank it leached a little and tinted my water but it wasn't as bad. The tannins actually lowered my pH which is good for my fish and the slightly brown tint looked great in my tank.
I posted a picture of my 10 Gallon tank so you guys can see the driftwood. Hopefully that can help you guys decide if you should take the risk or not. Please let me know if my review helped thanks. The driftwood looks so good in my tank I want another piece! The shape was not what I expected. It's a bit like a stump with a long thin piece sticking out. I don't mind, it just isn't want I thought of. Anyway, it's in the tank. I boiled it once for about 15 mins. After 24 hours in tank there is no discoloration to the water. I like the way it looks. If it helps, I uploaded a picture that should be available with the product image. I want another piece but I want one that is more of a tunnel for my Pleco to hide in.I thought this product was going to be too small for my tank. However this piece was perfect, after soaking it for a day, my water was crystal clear and it added a nice center piece to my 20 gallon aquarium.

Boyd Chemi-Pure Elite 11.74 oz
If you've never used Chemi-Pure before, you need to determine how many bags you need. I had a Marineland Magnum canister that required 2 bags to fill the carbon canister (it was a tight fit though).
I am a huge fan of using multiple filters with different filter media in them. This enables you to clean one out while leaving the other one undisturbed so as not to harm the good bacteria the tank needs. No matter how good your chemical media is, you need to stock properly, feed judiciously, and perform your tank maintenance. Chemi-Pure is good, but it won't make up for neglect.
Buy Boyd Chemi-Pure Elite 11.74 oz Now
I love this stuff, at least as much as you can love bags of charcoal and ion exchange resins. I'd only suggest it if you have a canister filter. I use an Eheim 2211 and it works great.I bought this because it absorbs nitrates and phosphates. I don't want to mess with live plants. I have a 10 gallon with three fish at about 70% bioload. My nitrates stay at a constant 10 ppm. They don't go up, they don't go down. I've had my aquarium up and running for a few months and still haven't had to do a water change. Apparently, I should only have to change this once every six months.
I'll never go back to just activated carbon again. This media does a great job at filtering the water, and does leave a slight blue tint to it that makes the tank highly attractive to the eyes!Crystal clear water when using this product. You will have to add trace minerals to tank every now and then.

It looks like it would hang on the side of the tank, but its way to small. The gap is almost gone after you add the hose to it, and even without the hose
it will not hang on the tank. I cant see any way to use this other then just putting the hose on and
dropping it in the water. :(

Marina Betta Kit, Large
If they just made these tanks 2.5-5 gallons they'd be great! If they installed heaters in them they'd be perfect... but really people, just use this tank when you're changing the water in your real tank. Amazon has a great 5-gallon by aqueon. It even has a filter. Just baffle the filter and put a pre-filter sponge on it, add a heater and you'll be good to go. That's what I've done now. I god some black sand, large river rocks, an amazon sword, java moss, and some drift wood... my tank looks beautiful and my new betta LOVES it. I only have to change 20% of the water since I cycled the tank, and I have a ghost shrimp to help keep the sand clean AND some neon tetras with the betta. It's much more peaceful, but if you want decor, try a 3-gal vase with crystal rocks and some bamboo or a plant. As for heat, they are tropical fish and do best in warm water, but if you keep your house warm, then you should be fine without a heater.
Buy Marina Betta Kit, Large Now
No complaints here...great design. I use this for about 5 shrimp and some java fern. It's been 2 months and they seem to be flourishing...Got it for under $5 bucks from Amazon Warehouse deals and still had to return it because it was cracked. This tank is very flimsy and and very tiny. To call this tank 'Large' is a joke. Looks good, but no room for a filter, air stone etc. and no lid or light. For the $11 original price you can buy a 'real' 10 gallon glass aquarium. Do I need to say more? Check the dimensions and forget about this 'tank'.This won't even hold a full gallon of water! It's much too small for a fish as big as a betta--the fish's fins would rot very quickly and doesn't give the fish room to exercise it's swim muscles. It'd have to be cleaned every single day just to keep the water clean. Yes, it's pretty to look at for the humans but it's not good for the fish living inside it. You might be able to keep a smail or a couple very small shrimp in here, but no fish.Sunday, June 1, 2014
Nutrafin Betta Plus, 4 Ounces
For those of you who are new to betta care (or who think it is okay to keep them in a goldfish bowl), please remember that, although these are hardy fish, they are healthiest and happiest in at least 5 gallons of water (properly conditioned with something like this Nutrafin product) that is heated to around 78 degrees and is cleaned regularly (a 50% water change every week or so is great). This is the absolute best water softener for my bettas!!!! I have two betas; one male, and one female. They each have a five gallon aquarium, and I change their water every five days. This water conditioner is by far the best one for them. We have very hard, well water here on Camp Pendleton, and when our local store ran out of this I tried another brand. My poor fish got very sick. I had to do two rounds of serious antibiotics to clear them up, and I was very worried for them. This brought them back with the antibiotics, and water changes every three days. They truly are the healthiest with this, and it has the almond leaf extract in it, which bettas need! I cannot say enough about this product. I cannot find this larger size in my local store, just the smaller one, and with two five gallons, every five days, I go through a lot of it! My local store also is almost always out of it. It flies off the shelf! I love that Amazon carries this bigger size, thank you!!!!

My betta tank only stayed clean for 2 days after using this product. I got a slime on the sides of it that the other product didn't leave behind. Not sure what I did wrong???This product is a reliable and safe conditioner for betta fish that provides a bit of tropical almond leaf extract (often used in Thailand by betta breeders). The extract contains tannins, which in the bettas' natural environment leach into freshwater from fallen leaves, helping adjust the quality and PH of the water to the bettas' advantage, especially helping to promote male bubble nesting. The quantities in this formulation are very small, however, so do not purchase this just for the almond leaf extract. (You can purchase actual imported tropical almond leaves for bettas online at fish supply stores and Amazon). However, if you want a good water conditioner for a small number of bettas that is formulated for their needs, this is it! If you have many fish, then you may want a product that comes in a larger size.My beta is having a blast in his water, I don't know but something to do with the almond in this product made my fish very comfortable. I don't suffer any more with the cloudy water after a few daysWednesday, April 23, 2014
Marineland PA0415 Eclipse Replacement Lamp, fits 6-gal, 12-Inch, 8-Watt
Thank You,

Like an idiot, I bought three (or was it four) hoods that all went to heck in a handbasket. It works. It is a light bulb, not much more to say about it as long as it works. So this requirement for the 20 words review is really silly. I wish I could plug in some other cheaper light tube for this unit, but unfortunately it only takes this one, so as long as it works, it's good.Want Marineland PA0415 Eclipse Replacement Lamp, fits 6-gal, 12-Inch, 8-Watt Discount?
I got this bulb for my Aqueon 15 gal column tank. A 12-inch bulb isn't easy to find, so I purchased this one and a Power-Glo to see which is brighter. I can only find T5 bulbs that are 8-watts, which isn't ideal as I want the tank BRIGHT. This bulb bulb is a much lower kelvin than the Power Glo, but the light looks very dull and a tad yellow once it is installed. It actually seems like it might be a bit dimmer than the original Aqueon bulb that the tank came with. Plants would probably do ok with it if they could tolerate medium light. Keep in mind my tank is very deep, so this review may not be a great qualifier for more standard shaped tanks where the light has less depth to penetrate. All that being said, it's hard to find 12" bulbs and beggars can't be choosers (well, except in this case they can). If this was the only bulb I could get my hands on, it would probably suffice.

I was looking for a product that would extend water changes in my fresh water fish tank and create a healthy environment for my fish. When I was at Petco, they recommended Microbe-Lift Special Blend. I used it as instructed and this product is excellent. The water is crystal clear and I haven't changed the water in 4 months; it says you can go up to 6 months. This product does smell like rotten eggs, which is normal; however the smell goes away within minutes. I highly recommend this product for anyone who is tired of water changes and wants a healthy environment for their fish. The product sates you can use this for salt water fresh as well.Read Best Reviews of Microbe-Lift Special Blend for Home Aquariums Here
Found this stuff at PetCo and gave it a try, I love it. It smells horrible, but it works. I have 5 aquariums from 150g to 10g, had no problems at all. I bought niteout originally but Special Blend alone has worked for me. Never had any water problems. I recommend this over all other bacteria supplements. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.Want Microbe-Lift Special Blend for Home Aquariums Discount?
This product does have a bad smell at first that dissipates quickly. Hydrogen Sulfide (the source of that rotten egg smell) induces a state of "hibernation" so the bacteria survive longer. It is added as a type of preservative if you will. I crack the top, measure it out, quickly re-cap the bottle and then toss my dose in the tank. The smell lingers in the room for just a bit but it doesn't make your tank water stink. Once the process of opening the bottle and kicking up that smell is over and airs out I don't have any smell sticking around. My ammonia and nitrites are both at 0ppm with nitrates 30ppm. For the first time in 5 years my plants are growing instead of keeling over on me. I haven't been using it long, but I'm really glad I found it. Smell aside :)Friday, November 8, 2013

We've been running an Eheim 2222-37 as the sole filter for a 60 gallon planted tank for approximately 6 years. It is SILENT, easy to service, leak free, and trouble free.
It's a little under-powered for a 60 gallon tank but still keeps the aquarium very clear.
Fantastic build quality and value.

The Eheim was quick and easy to set up and runs silently. The aquarium, one month later seems clean and the fish and plants are thriving. Tap Water Filter
It does not provide value for the cost.So I have off the scale, hard municipal water... and this filter actually does a pretty good job on it. It produces water completely free of contaminates, chlorine, etc (using api test kit ofc), and does so at 10 gph with no runoff more efficient than most home RO machines, especially at the price. It's also extremely simple to hook up and use.
The problem is, I too only got an estimated 30-40 gallons out of the canister, which is well short of the advertised average of 50-150 gallons.
My tank is an open design 55 gallon, and I lose close to 5 gallons a week to evaporation. So I did some math.
40 gallons produced (1 canister) / 5 gallons per week = roughly 8 weeks of use, for $22 plus shipping
40 gallons x .50 cents at the RO machine down the street = $20 (minus hauling all that water up 2 flights op stairs every other week)
After a close race, the machine loses by a narrow margin. But only because the canisters cost too much. If they were to drop the price a bit, I might pick some up for the convenience alone. As for now, I'll pretend to be content lugging water cans around all the time. Guess it's good exercise.I got 10 years out of my old DI filter, running off water for many salt tanks in a way that didn't waste water the way my old RO unit did. But eventually, the fitting cracked, and I am just thrilled they are still being manufactured. Great, efficient, yes cartridges are pricey but on a decent water supply they last a while, and takes little storage space.Used this filter a few times and it worked well until it suddenly started to cause the filtered water to smell something akin to a strong chemical cat urine odor. I had added some water to a fish tank and the tank smelled rank. As a result, I had to change out the tank and add clean unfiltered water. I think the fish are okay. I will throw the unit away as it also is causing the entire room to smell awful. Total waste of money and I hope I didn't harm the fish by using this product. This little item is easy to assembly and use. Makes great water for my fish.I'm glad I bought it!! Donna
