I sprinkle a half cup or so of these chips in the cat litter periodically, when things start to smell "not so fresh". The same thing that makes them effective at removing ammonia from water makes them effective at removing it from the litter and air. They are quite a bit bigger than litter, so when you sift some get caught in the scoop, but oh well.

I bought this for my 3 tanks. I measured out how much was needed for the size of the tank. I put it loosely in a knee high pantyhose and tied a knot. I put it in all the tanks, and when I took a reading of the water the ammonia levels did not change. You also have to regenerate the chips every 5 days in salt which is an extra step I don't know if it helps.

Like the title reads: They are a good quality brand. However, they're are some down falls. I found a little too much power in the bottom of the carton. Also, I would love to have pellets! They make carbon pellets.. So why not Ammo Pellets!?!!?

Had a extended power outage (4 days) after hurricane Isaac. Saved a clownfish in a small 5 gallon tank with battery aeration. My 100 gallon reef tank stunk after and had to wash rocks and sand with fresh water. Filled with saltwater and put the clown back in and ammonia crept up to a slight but unacceptable level. The chips worked fine. Within a day my ammonia and nitrite levels dropped to zero. Added some nitrifying bacteria and tank was ready for fish and corals in a week.

I have two of these hoods for one of my 55-gallon tanks. I personally have had no problems with these lights. They're cheaper and easier to deal with (in my opinion) than glass canopies and long strip lights.

I wanted to point out, however, that some people have had problems with the light dying after a few months (see the reviews on Petco's website for this product). I have not had this problem. But, if you should have this problem, try taking your light to your local aquarium specialty store; you can buy a new starter for $1.50 and have a working light again--much cheaper than buying a new one!

This review is for the 24" full hood for a rectangular tank. I got this strictly for the light fixture because the price for this full hood was similar to that of a single light fixture at the time of purchase.

This full hood comes in 2 parts. The first part is the light fixture which just sits on top of the hood. Some of the reviewers have given this product low marks because the light has failed. I wonder if any of the had it mail ordered and wonder if handling had to do with the light failing.

The hood itself is plastic and glass. The rear of the canopy has various punch out holes that you can punch out for cords and tubing. I like plastic strips better for that purpose as you can customize the size of the holes. The entire front is a lid that can be opened up to feed the fish. The hinge of this lid is rather flimsy and is just two thin pieces of plastic, but that shouldn't be a problem because if the hinges broke, I can just as easy lift the lid up.

I have a 55g tank (48" long) and you need two of these for that. You will just need one for a 20g tank measuring 24".

As a simple mechanical device to close the top of the tank, it works great. The light bulb itself is actually the important part and the expensive part as you need different bulbs to perform different tasks, such as growing plants, reefs, or just illuminating the tank, etc. On the whole, I have no complaints, it does its job well and was inexpensive.

This hood has poor quality. I had my old aquarium hood for 4 years and it worked well. But this one I only purchased it for a month and the light stopped working. Waste money.

This light is a cheap made junk. Had it for about 2 weeks & the light stopped working & the lid does not fit a 20 gallon tank! Had to have plexi glass cut to set the lid & light on top so I could have a lighted tank. Bulb was fine. I thought it was the switch & I took it out & just wired the light so you could just un plug & plug in whenever you want to use the light. Did not work. DON'T BUY! Save your money because not only did I waste $42, buy another $12 to get plexi glass cut & now I have to buy a new light! What a rip off!

This is the second SunSun powerhead I have purchased for my tank. The first one broke within 2 months, the second one (This one) Failed to work from install. The very moment the whole powerhead became submerged the white propeller began to slide forward and backward making a loud clicking noise. This prevented the powerhead from even pushing out any water. From what I could tell, if you covered the output to keep the white propeller from pushing too fast it will work. However the moment you uncover it, the propeller will bounce freely forward and backward into it's motor. I would not recommend buying from this manufacturer. Spend the extra 20 bucks and you could probably save some headaches.

It is a great price. the water flow coming out is sent out in a expanding cone shape. not really directional. Well it generally is directional i guess you could say. as for 800 gph. i don't really think so. but have no way to measure with this type of set up. idk how anyone can determine how much actual flow there is.

I have bought many of these bones for my 1.5 y/o lab. She is a chewing machine, and these will last her for about a week a piece. She likes to pick them up and drop them for some reason so they will break in half. Then she will gnaw on the knuckle part till it's gone. They do break into sharp pieces sometimes, but I just throw those bits away. All in all these are a great natural dog chew. Plus, with free shipping and no tax from Amazon you can't beat the price.

They last about a week or two before he cracks them in half, but they really keep him busy! Other bones are too small and he goes through them too quickly. Not for indoor use as they are quite messy.

The picture does not do this ornament justice. It is absolutely perfect. I have large fish and it's hard for me to find a decoration with holes large enough for them to explore inside. This sunken ship is the perfect accessory to my aquarium. Kids think it looks neat yet it is tasteful enough for adults. There are three huge holes in the bottom. Two on one side, one on the other. The bottom is left open so the gravel or sand can be viewed inside. It really looks like a sunken ship that has sat on the bottom for a while. I personally adore it. The holes are large and create an open feel, yet there's still enough shadows to make fish feel as though they are safe and hiding.

I have a few different aquariums. This is in my 50 gallon and looks great. It's not overly large but takes up a good chunk of space. I would say that it would nicely fit anywhere above a 20 gallon tank. It would be a bit overwhelming in a 15 gallon but could probably fit. But like I said, I would go for anything above a 20 gallon with this particular accessory.

The color is very natural and it really looks like wood. So many accessories with wood accents look like plastic. This one actually looks like wood. It's a detail I personally really appreciate. My fish love it. It looks great. I couldn't have asked for a better accessory. And it was packaged flawlessly.

Lee's Super Algae Scrubber w/Handle for Glass Tanks - Coarse

The more products I try from Lee's the more impressed I am with the quality and value. A long time hobbyist of 35 years it seems the battle against Algae is one that will rage on indefinatley. This scrubber is excellent, good and coarse spun nylon it makes removal as much of a breeze as possible, it's great for the sides and bottom using the edge is perfect for those hard to reach places.

A few of my tanks get indirect sunlight so for those it's a weekly effort and I'll be buying more of these so I have one for most of my tanks. Which BTW, is important especially if you keep a variety of different species in seperate aquariums. Cross contamination has long been linked to the dreaded toxic tank syndrome so best to have gear that's dedicated to one specific tank.

does the job of scrubbing algae nothing more nothing less. Algae doesn't stick to the pad unless your tank is dry if it's wet the algae just washes off the pad and back into the tank.

It is a decently priced cleaner, but the handle is on the shorter end. It does a good job in my glass tank. I still end up having my hands wet if I clean all the way to the bottom of the glass though. If the handle had a length adjustment of sorts that would have been perfect!

Malaysian Driftwood, Large

The driftwood is large. Like others who have bought this item, the piece that I received was more beautiful than the one that is pictured. It is a new piece which will leak Tannis into the the water causing the water to turn a brownish color. Some people do not like this, however, it is a natural process and in many cases helps your fish, depending on where they come from. Some fish require a "Black Water" effect which Tannis does provide. It does cause the water to become a little acidic. Mostly, it depends on if your tank was balanced or not. (A truly balanced tank should be at a neutral pH due to acidic and alkaline processes balancing each other out. Example: Nitrification by bacteria causes the water lower in pH; while photosynthesis from plants and algae causes an increase in pH.)

Because it is a new piece of driftwood, you may experience a period in which matter begins to decompose and fungus will grow. Fungus is one of nature's cleaners. It may be unsightly for a little while. Again, this is a natural process that will take care of itself in time. If you don't like the fungus at all, get tank mate(s) that like to eat the stuff. I recommend adding a few guppies to your tank, feeder or fancy will do. Just be aware that they are live bearers and have a 28 day birthing cycle. The babies can lead to overstocking, however, if you do not wish to care for them, they will be quickly eaten up by your other fish.

All in all, I am very happy with this piece of driftwood.

I received this item very quickly. It is about 18 inches long and 12 inches at its widest. The one I received does not look like the one in the picture. I prefer the one I got over the one in the picture. It is made from a very good quality piece of wood. It is dense and light brown in color with several holes and protruding edges. This piece of driftwood looks natural except for the part that was cut from the main piece. The cut offers and unique look into the dark, dense, and almost petrified interior of this piece. I took off one star because this was literally put into a box with no packaging, thankfully it is a very sturdy piece of wood.

I ordered this item knowing that the product I received would not be identical to the one in the picture. I absolutely love the piece I received! I soaked it in hot water for about an hour to remove some of the tannins and placed it in my tank during a water change. My tiger barbs and various loach species absolutely love dancing around the driftwood. They weave above and below the branches and seem so much happier with a more natural piece of aquarium decor.

The price is exceptional for the item received and I would recommend it to anyone!

Lee`s Aquarium Tank Divider 10gal

I bought this divider after my original (homemade) one broke and my two male bettas fought. My divider was made from those report cover binders much like what is in this product. The good thing about it though is that on the sides it is reinforced so the divider doesn't slip or have to be held up by gravel.

The screen that comes with this is really flimsy and not suitable for two male bettas, as it was clear and they could see each other well. I took the plastic canvas (purchased at a craft store) from my original divider and set it up with that instead. Works really well!

We had this product for less than a year before I noticed that fish were somehow breaching the screen. Further inspection revealed a huge gaping hole in the screen. When I removed the divider, the screen had tear marks and holes all over it, despite the fact that it had never been touched since being installed.

This tank divider is comprised of 4 slotted strips of plastic, one plastic divider and 2 hooks. The dividers that go along the sides of the tank are more substantial than the ones that go across the top and bottom. The plastic divider is thin and flexible full of tiny holes to allow water circulation, and easily trimmed to fit your particular aquarium. My 10 gallon aquarium is a pretty standard rectangle, and this divider still needed a half inch trimmed off in order to fit correctly.

I am using this divider to separate two bettas. They can clearly see each other through it. But they are small fish and can't do much to get at each other. I could see where a larger fish could, were he so inclined, swim at the divider with enough force (and I don't think it would take too much force) to push it out of the slots and free himself. The photo on the box shows a larger fish. I believe that fish could easily overcome this barrier if it tried.

The hooks that are holding it at the top are the same weight as a heavy duty paper clip. My least favorite thing about his divider is that the clips extend over the edge of the aquarium in the front and back. In the back the clip exits the lid through the same hole as my tank filter. In the front, the lid no longer sits flush because there is a wire clip sticking out of the middle of the tank. That's pretty lame.

However, what it comes down to is that it is effective (for my fish), to stays upright and doesn't move or fall over, and so far shows no sign of failing (it's been only a week).

The item its self is fine, but I wanted to let everyone know that Amazon packages these poorly so you need to be warned!

These are lightbulbs, and they put them in a long and flat cardboard box with some small air packets to keep them from shifting around. But lightbulbs need protection from shock and impact, not just shifting around. These are expensive bulbs, and not designed to be opened until needed so I cant even verify the integrity of them now. Amazon is getting a little too fast and loose in efforts to grow big people need to stop and focus on the small details (you know, like packing fragile lightbulbs correctly.)

these thing work great as heat lamps for our lizard. just be careful not to touch the actual bulb part when installing them. or oils on you fingers can damage the lens when you turn it on.

I bought this for my son's gerbils because they need something to chew that will last longer than a week. This is perfect! They took the fibers that were inside the coconut out and distributed them around their habitat. They left some inside the coconut, too. We have found them sleeping together inside the coconut. My son says he doesn't like it because he can't get the gerbils out of the coconut! But that's not true. They come out when you start talking to them, no problem. The gerbils like this cozy place to snuggle and keep warm. I am not sure that they are chewing it, though, and that was the main purpose for purchasing this.

My gerbils dug out the insides really fast but don't seem that interested in it anymore. They chew on it some but mostly it just sits in there cage taking up space.

I personally love this little Hamster home. It is truly adorable. I wish I could give it a positive review but Nuri (my Syrian Hamster) seems to dislike this coconut home. She may go in and out of it a handful of time, but she refuses to sleep in it. The only thing she cares about is the bedding, which she took out and used to build her own sleeping area. Disappointing.

The pump itself is terrific. Amazon's price and fast shipping was much appreciated. There is a lot of power and good control for the water pressure. The water bell is lovely. But the fountain heads are held on by pressure, not threaded, and the force of the water being pumped eventually blew both the water bell and spray heads off and they are buried somewhere in the bottom of my pond. With the cold weather coming soon, I don't expect to find them before next spring. It's a serious design flaw, but you can probably secure the head if you know about it in advance.

I love the size of the jumbo because I use it in my 135 gallon aquarium as a center piece and my cichlids like to excavate tunnels beneath it.The piece I recieved is about 31" long by 8" at it's widest and 7" tall. I just orderd two more because the free shipping was almost as much as the wood itself because I live in Hawaii and if I found one as nice as this one here it would probably be about 80 bucks

This piece of wood is HUGE! It weighed 30lbs, was about 28 inches by 21 inches by 18 inches. Be forewarned...it is truly a Jumbo piece of wood. I had to cut mine into 3 pieces but it was fairly easy. It is beautiful in the aquarium(I only have one piece from the Jumbo and the medium piece I ordered along with this one in the aquarium but the other 2 pieces from the Jumbo piece are beautiful and I am using them as decorations around my aquarium stand). I have a 75 gallon aquarium and it does release tannin's no matter how long you soak it. I soaked it about 4 days and it has been in the aquarium for about 4 days. Add extra carbon and it helps greatly. The best thing is water changes!! The lighter pieces release less and lighter tannin's than the darker pieces. I will post some pictures in the coming days. I highly recommend this beautiful wood!!

I ordered the Large along with this Jumbo sized Mopani. The Jumbo wasn't much larger than the Large but quite a bit heavier. Both very beautiful pieces of wood. Just remember to either boil the wood for a few hours or soaking in water for a few weeks if you are using it in a aquarium. It'll leach tannin's into the water making it darker. Boiling and soaking prior to tank use will still not stop it from leaching but at least it will shorten the time before it stops doing it.

This review is after four months into the project. After the oooos and aaahs of right out of the box have faded into the background.

This is a 34 Gal tank

Setup was pretty straight forward. Don't be a jock, have someone help you get the tank into position since it's glass. The tank I bought had the starter kit included. A $129.00 option. Free is a good thing. If it's not included, don't bother buying it. Some of the test kits red sea puts out are not all they repeatable.

Don't expect the skimmer to work on turn on. It really does take some time to break in, and for you to learn how to tweak it to the level that you want it to work at. I have to admit that fitting a skimmer, filter and pump system into the area that they did is Dammed impressive, especially since it actually works. The only pain in the butt I see is that to replace the bio and carbon filter, you need to pull both of the pumps out to do it. Not a hard job... just a pain.

Many reviews I've read say that there is not enough flow in the tank. That may be true with the older model, but with the 130D that is not the issue. I put some screen over the output of one of the pumps to cut the flow down a bit. With that said..... there may be some owners who think that there should be proper flow through the tank with a rock in front of the pump outputs.

The instructions are good, everything you need to do the setup and cycling of the tank are explained. It even tells you when to add your cleaner crew, corals and fish. I added the crew when they said to, but waited a two months longer to add the soft corals. Chemical balance in your tank really is important. Don't go overboard. Get a little frag and see how it goes. If the water quality isn't as good as you think it is your only out 10 bucks. Money isn't the point.... My emerald crab ate one of my hermit crabs because I screwed up on the feeding and I felt terrible.

This is a good entry tank, Mainly because it takes a little more work than the larger tanks. With thought, patients, some research and an eye for detail, anyone can have a god looking tank.

Now after four months of testing water, water changes, the tank looks good. Eight, soft corals, sixteen hermits, ten snails, two emerald crabs, one anenomie. and a cleaner shrimp. are doing fine.

Lee's 10 Economy Undergravel Filer, 1 Plate - 10 x 20-Inches

Bought this filter for my 10gal aquarium. Fits nicely.

You need an air pump for this so don't get one if you don't have it.

The filter works. Keeps all the heavy stuff underneath the gravel.

You cant see it working, but when you clean you aquarium and look you will be surprised how effective it works.

Also the clear tube in which the bubbles flow through make my aquarium seem futuristic, by that i mean it looks nice.

It comes with a "filter" that has some carbon pellets or something, after a while mine got filthy so i tossed it.

This filter system doesn't need that filter at all. It's all about the bubbles making a soft undertow to pull the trash under the gravel. I think it's good and worth the price.

Works great, sturdy, and can be added onto for a larger tank. Anyone that has something bad to say about this, is not using it right. Works great for me, no problems at all!

This is actually not quite an accurate description. This undergravel filter comes in two separate plates that you then have to cut the bottom edges to allow the water to flow from one to the other. I do like that it came with activated charcoal cartridges if you are using bubblers instead of power pumps.

We were complaining about how cloudy the tank was getting. Replacing water at least once a week. The undergravel from Lee was easy to install and is working Great!

I'd buy it again if I had to. Built well and good price. I actually use it upside down to hold marbles instead of gravel so I can just pick this up by the sides and lift my entire bottom out at once.

It is difficult to adjust the Prizm properly. I spent three weeks bouncing between three conditions. 1) Filling with water, 2) Not collecting anything and 3) Properly collecting skimmate.

I finally gave up and purchased an Aqua-C Remora Pro. The Remora worked perfectly right out of the box! The Remora doesn't need adjustments, which is a good thing, there is nothing to adjust.

I used this skimmer for about 10 months. It was horrible. The plastic is too dark to properly set the microbubble level. Many, many times I thought I had it set correctly, only to find it had overflowed a 1/2 hour later. It NEVER collected much, even when I was lucky enough to have set it correctly. Towards the end, it kept losing siphon, so it would run maybe 3 hours before it stopped pulling in any water to skim. I switched to a Coralife skimmer, and in 2 days, I swear I had collected more skimmate than in the previous 10 months combined. It was a huge waste of money.

I bought a used Prizm skimmer from a fellow member of my Reef Club. I installed it on a 10 Gallon nano reef that I set up. I had problems adjusting the flow (either too much and pumping microbubbles into tank, lucky break: it skims great for awhile or no suction for any apparent reason). This skimmer was used and had been broken and repaired. I decided that maybe the previous damage was the source of my problem. So I ordered a new one.

I installed the new skimmer on my 30-Gallon reef. At first it worked ok. It never produced much skimmate. Yet I had enough dissolved organics in the tank to support a healthy hair algae outbreak. Three months later and I'm again fighting loss of suction, overflowing collection cup and/or tons of microbubbles discharged into the tank.

I took the skimmer apart, replaced all O-rings and tubing. Skimmer worked so-so for another 2-3 months and then problems started again. Neither new or used skimmer ever worked very well. If it couldn't keep up on a 30-Gallon, there's no way it can keep up on the capacity rating of 100-Gallons.

For @$125 new, I would say I didn't even got what I paid for. Save the money, do more research and buy a real skimmer.

After having so many used tanks I decided with my tax return, I would buy EVERYTHING new. I wouldn't have someone elses used choices, I would make a system that was uniquely MINE.

I chose all my parts carefully based on features I wanted for my own tank and disregarded reviews. OOPS!

I chose this skimmer. And I have regretted it. ever. since. It had NO instructions for how to get it to start sucking up the water so it took forever to figure it out (you have to put the little black tube on one opening until it starts sucking then quickly switch it to the other opening to create bubbles....). the 'deluxe' surface skimmer clip broke in less than a week, it's a joke. I've had it 9 months and it's been off for 3 at least, I just removed it from the tank the other day. Everytime I would plug it in it would skim for a few hours and then I would come in and it would be running dry and not be sucking water anymore. it constantly fills my 40 gallon with tiny bubbles. the carbon media container got stuck and refused to come out when I wanted to change it so I didn't get it out until I pried it out after taking the skimmer off my tank. this skimmer STINKS! It NEVER skimmer well, needed constant adjusting, because an adjustment that works one day suddenly wont be working the next... just AWFUL! Lee's counter current $20 skimmer works better than this! Oh, and it's loud!
