JBJ Instant Siphon Gravel Cleaner

JBJ Instant Siphon Gravel CleanerI bought this elsewhere but am buying a replacement. I love this design. The valve on the end allows you to turn the flow of water off between buckets (very important!) the squeeze bulb makes starting the siphon so much easier (and more hygenic some people put their mouth on the tube and get tank water in their mouths, igh!) The only down side is that sometimes you will get some gravel or a snail inside the squeeze bulb, although it is possible to get it open to clean it out and then reassemble, you loose the tightness of the seal over time the more times you take it apart better not to get junk in the bulb in the first place.

I have a 5 gallon tank & this item is way too big. Need to have a much better description on what minimum size tank it is best for.

Buy JBJ Instant Siphon Gravel Cleaner Now

We received the siphon hose really quick, and was excited to try it out. It works really well and cuts down time cleaning your tank. The only problem with it is it leaks around each connection. We solved that with metal clamps at each join, they should improve the joint fit on this product. But it is a real easy product to use.

This leaks terribly where the hoses connect to the hand pump. I had water everywhere. Perhaps -only minehas this defect. Not sure. However, I cannot recommend this product.

Siphon Kleen Aquarium Cleaner

Siphon Kleen Aquarium Cleaner Size: MediumThe cone shape on the top of this cleaner creates a great suction. I bought it without the reference of reveiws. I figured Marine Land would only make a great product, so I gambled. It has so much suction, you have to be careful not to suck the gravel into the waste water bucket!

Zoo Med Betta House 2 Gallon Rectanular Black

Zoo Med Betta House 2 Gallon Rectanular BlackI just want to start off by saying I am not a fish expert. I had received a female Betta fish as a gift, in a small bowl, but after reading online about them needing more space,I decided to get something bigger, but I also wanted it to also look clean and sharp. This tank did the trick. It hold much more water but also looks great. The only down side is that it does not have a lid and the hole on top is pretty big, so sometimes debris gets in like dust and such that lays on top of the water. The little mermaid figure is a nice touch too.

Love these at first has odor but rince plain warm water let air dry.I have 9 of these with whisper filters3i bettas love the room

Zanusa Pet Products Resin Ornament - Hollow Log

Zanusa Pet Products Resin Ornament - Hollow LogThis looks just like a hollowed out piece of wood my Betta loves swimming up inside and just hanging in the middle of it he apparently feels secure inside it it fits in my 5 gallon tank just fine

Smaller than I thought it would be. I was hoping for something on the 8-10 inch range or larger. The log is about 5-6 inches max. Its in my tank right now so I don't want to pull it out. I'll update with the size next time I do a cleaning. It is nice and fits in with my other mangrove root tree stump type things in the tank. My Cichlids like it too.

TrueLumen 48-Inch TrueLumen Pro LED Strip Light, Marine Fusion 12K White/Actinic Blue Combo with Ca

TrueLumen 48-Inch TrueLumen Pro LED Strip Light, Marine Fusion 12K White/Actinic Blue Combo with Canopy BracketsTo get enough lighting to match my compacts, I needed 2 of the true lumen led's. I bought the blue/white mix and the 12k white. They do a great job on my 75 gallon tank. I have fish and coral. The hammerhead coral has taken off since installing them. The mushroom coral has retracted some (which I wanted). Tough to say how all of the different corals will react, but for me it was a good match. The size is unbelievable. Going from a large compact fluorescent to two thin strips an inch and a half wide is a great bonus. No more CF bulb replacement either.

Disappointed.

This is an expensive product, but several times per day more than half of the LED lights go off.

biOrb Silver Aquarium Kit with Light

biOrb Silver Aquarium Kit with LightI love my BiOrb.

My brother sent me the round BiOrb as a birthday gift six years ago. (Thanks, Bro!) The tank stays incredibly clean. Filter changes are a snap. I don't change my filter or clean my tank as often as recommended: about every 6 months is usually often enough for me and my fish.

As someone with a fair amount of aquarium experience, I can truly say that the BiOrb amazes me. It holds all the joy of fish ownership with shockingly little work in return.

A really cool feature of the tank is the optical illusions caused by the spherical shape. Fish can "disappear" in the visual curvatures of the tank, or be reflected in another area of the tank. (One fish can appear to be no-fish or two fish.) This is nice entertainment for guests who are trying to count my fish. It also keeps me rather occupied when I'm worried that one of my fish is "missing," as it sometimes takes a bit of time to spot the fish I'm looking for. Fish swimming in certain areas of the tank are greatly magnified, so appear much larger than their actual size. After six years of ownership, this tank still provides a LOT of entertainment to me. Very Zen.

I've had to replace the halogen light and the air pump. The pump just lasted a year or two, then I got a replacement from the local pet store. The light shorted after about four years; ordering a replacement from Reef-One was easy. These two replacements do not seem abnormal to me... just part of the regular maintenance on any tank, in my opinion.

Really tiny fish can be sucked into the filter of the Biorb. I've only noticed that happening with small zebra daminaos. I've also had various tetras in the BiOrb (smaller than the daminaos) who had no problem staying where they belonged. If you notice the trapped fish, you can usually release them with no harm.

The literature with my BiOrb said it could support 3 large fish or 7 little fish. The biggest fish I've had in the tank are angel fish and fan-tail goldfish. I prefer smaller fish, since I enjoy watching schooling behaviors. (I've actually got 9 little fish in there at the moment. They appear happy and the chemical levels are okay.)

Just a bit more about the brilliant filtering system. I think the reason the tank stays so incredibly clean is that the air is pumped into the top-middle of the tank, so it creates a lovely water flow down the spherical sides of the tank and back into the central filter at the bottom. It's such an even pattern that debris is literally kept out of site and mind. Makes for happy fish and a happier fish owner.

I've read on-line that some people don't care for the plastic tank. I love it. Leak proof. Sturdy. No "bad" viewing angles. The instruction manual says to use care with cleaning products (don't want to scratch it!) but mine is blemish free even after all this time. Lighter and easier to set-up and move than a regular glass tank, as well. Really difficult to discern the molded seam of the tank, you have to really look. Most people never see it.

Another nice feature that is not often mentioned: no smell. The tank isn't exactly sealed: there's a nice lid with a little feeder hole so that dropping in food is easy. Most tanks, even well-cleaned ones, have a bit of an odor. This tank has nearly always been odor free.

Bottom line: YES! You'll love it, most any giftee will love it. Well worth the money!!!

I was lucky to find this in an 8 gallon on an auction site of all places, new in the box.

Great size, I have goldfish and one minnow. They were all in a 5 gallon and I don't want a big tank so this works great. It seems really large to me. And it's beautiful, love it when the light's on. I do want to get a LED bulb replacement for the evening when I can save enough to do so, but during the daytime I don't need any light, it gets indirect light from our patio door. I also bought some purple and blue Biorb plants, I liked the fakey retro cool look of them but any brightly colored plastic plants will do. I actually don't want to cover the air tube up because I like the way it looks -it's way cool. Ditto for the rocks. Reminds me of a futuristic fishbowl.

I don't find the pump noisy but it's resting on the carpeted floor near the wall. It does hum as all air pumps do. The thing that's loud is the bubbles from the air tube. I like it though, it's not an offensive sound, kind of like a bubbling fountain sound. The shape of the bowl really distorts the fish though, they can't really be normally seen unless they're close to the plastic. Otherwise they're magnified. Speaking of magnification, if this is put in direct sunlight, it can burn cause enough magnification of the sun's rays to start a fire!!! Seriously!

Although flake food is kind of messy, if I feed it in small amounts it goes quickly...I also have a supply of small-sized pellet food to give my fish from time to time.

One thing that I heard is that goldfish pee a lot, so I bought some Ammo Carb and instead of buying costly filters all the time, I just put a small amount (not too much or the filter won't work well) in after disposing of the old stuff and rinsing the sponge in aquarium water. So far it's worked well for me and the water continues to stay clear and the fish are very healthy (their color, activity and fins are straight up and they're really busy and always begging for food like goldfish do :0). Also, I heard that LED lights should be available soon in many more stores (especially here in Cali) and plan to purchase a bulb from our local home improvement warehouse for around $22. Also, the pump can be replaced with any air pump, it doesn't HAVE to be a BiOrb!!! :-)

Update: My BiOrb started leaking so I contacted the company -I had a hard time so I actually contacted the United Kingdom office by email and they connected me with a U.S. rep really fast. I'm actually in the process of receiving a replacement now, no charge to me with a return label for my leaking tank so I give this company a BIG thumbs-up for customer service!!!

Buy biOrb Silver Aquarium Kit with Light Now

I bought the 8 gallon silver biorb with halogen light directly from Petco. I chose this aquarium because it looks stylish and because it came with everything needed (except heater), so it was easy to get started.

I started with 3 glofish (florescent coloured zebra danios), and now have 5 glofish and 1 betta. The tank looks quite nice, but one disadvantage of the design is that with the curved sides not all the fish are visible at once.

The main problem I have had is the glofish getting stuck in the filter. I bought the bubble tube guard, but they still find ways to get in through the water intakes at the bottom (they must be finding ways to swim through gaps in the ceramic rocks and then squeezing through the gaps in the filter case). In the 2 months I've had it, I've had 5 entrapments. Luckily the glofish are really tough, so they have survived the experience (except for the first one, which I accidentally dropped on the floor while rescuing I'm more careful now). Rescuing trapped fish is quite traumatic, especially when they are stuck in such a way as to be very difficult to get out. Each day I count the fish swimming around, and my heart sinks when one is missing....

So I can't recommend this aquarium for small fish of young glofish size. But it's not a really big tank, so that doesn't leave many options for fish choices.

I bought 2 biorb 8 gallon aquariums about 2 years ago. I really like the idea and the size was just right. Right out of the box I had problem trying to remove the filter system on one. Other than that I had no problems till recently. The plastic that holds the air stone and the outside bottom plastic plate cracked in multiple spots especially around the screw holes and the aquarium started leaking. I would never recommend an aquarium that has brittle plastic used to seal the bottom. Reef-one web site says once it starts to leak in the bottom it can be tricky to get it to reseal.

Hydor AQUA COLOR UL Aquarium LED Light - Blue

Hydor AQUA COLOR UL Aquarium LED Light - BlueI would def modify (if I could) the light to be adjustable -it just beams in one straight direction once it's suctioned on.

Another negative is there is NO on or OFF option...you have to unplug to turn it off-not sure if it's damaging to the device or not?

On the plus side, it has strong illumination and perfect for my 3gallon mini reef!

Digital Mini Automatic LCD Aquarium Fish Tank Food Feeder Timer Home up to 4 Feeding Times

Digital Mini Automatic LCD Aquarium Fish Tank Food Feeder Timer Home up to 4 Feeding TimesThe instructions were simple and easy to follow. The timer is very accurate, It hasn't lost or gained any time in two weeks.

Adjusting the food amount takes some time, and occasionally isn't consistent and will dump a little more than you want. All in all it's definitely worth the money.

The unit is easy to program and works well with pellet food. It's less consistent with flakes. I recommend testing it over a piece of paper a few times to fine tune the dispenser adjustment.

Also, make sure that the unit and its mounting clamp is suitable for your tank. I had a little difficulty finding a spot that cleared my lights and I had to come up with a temporary cover that allows the food to drop. The food is released through a trap door and I had to lower my water level a little bit so that it didn't sweep through the water on its way around.

Another word of advice: throw the included batteries away and supply fresh ones. Mine died during our vacation and I came back to some pretty hungry fish.

Except for the battery issue, I am pretty happy with the performance.

Look buyers, this cost me only $9.20 + P&H, the other vendor sell it at much higher price. It works great. I have one almost exactly look alike except it's bigger. Since I only use it when I will be out for more than couple of days, I keep on forgetting how to set the time and feeding time. That's when I mesh up the adjust button, everything else work. It didn't happened right away, it took five years of guessing and pressing hard.

Like:

Four feeding time

There's a repeat for every feeding time, twice

It's moisture resistant

Feeder container can be opened to place food (convenient)

Con:

The vise is narrow, good for smaller edge aquarium

There's a transparent barrel that turns to dispense food and the amount to dispense depend how much the gaps is opened. It filters depend on food size rather than quantity. You have to do a test to see if quantity is enough and if not use the repeat option per feed or add more feeding schedule time.

It could have been useless for me if I didn't have the old one which I use as a spare parts. I reused the vise from the old to the new feeder, thanks is fits. If what I have described fit your aquarium, this is a Great auto feeder. The larger size is AF-2005D and the mini size is AF-2009D. If you need the larger one then search for it. The food drum container is enough for two weeks dispensing I believed, the large size is really large than the mini, good at least for a month.

I purchased 2 of these units the displays are hard to read seems like some of the voltages are off when weaker batteries are in displays are good. As long as you can read the display the units work great it's hard to read with new batteries. Also remember to set the arrows one or two of them to set the cycles if not units will not work. Good for cheap.

Also great for larger bird baths! It seems to attract more birds b/c they see the water rippling great item to stock up on for the warmer months!

The tube doesn't stay in place, and it doesn't create bubbles throughout the entire surface. It floats, and doesn't stay in place even with heavy rocks weighing it down. Beautiful and neat idea, just flawed design.

I love this airstone. The bubbles are large enough that I don't have to worry about them lodging in my larger fishes' fins and strong enough that works even when buried under the sand in my tank. Be advised that the stone doesn't say submerged as easily as pictured and will need to be mostly buried.

I purchased this while it was on sale and probably wouldn't get another one unless there was another price cut.

As another reviewer noted, it's too light-weight to stay anchored to the bottom of the aquarium on its own. There is a small dimple on the bottom side that I hot glued a small suction cup to. From there, I could mount it anywhere I wanted. Just be careful that the hot glue is safe for fish.

Zoo Med Laboratories AZMBL30 Betta Light for Aquarium Light

Zoo Med Laboratories AZMBL30 Betta Light for Aquarium LightI am using this light for a basic 2.5 gallon aquarium purchased at Petsmart for my betta. The light has 5 LED's and lights up the aquarium pretty well. If you are going to use a lid/hood, you might want to bring it-and your aquarium into the store, open up the box for the light, and try it out to see how it fits on your aquarium. Or if you are in the store buying a small aquarium with no light, I would recommend testing the fit of this light on it before buying. The lid that came with my aquarium does not fit snugly with this light clipped on. However, it sits on top and balances fine so it is still usable. If you are using a tank or aquarium with no top, or have a top with ample cutouts for light/heater/filter etc, then it should fit just fine. There is no night-time setting on this light. It does have an on-off switch. I put a plant bulb in my aquarium, and with this light on it is growing. The light cost $20 at Petsmart, but at the moment you could order it on Amazon for $15 and free shipping. But again, unless you're confident it will fit I would find a way to test it first.

I REALLY wish this was brighter. They should have stated the wattage on the package. Definitely not bright enough to keep any plants alive. I had to add a halogen desk lamp. Also, it doesnt fit aquariums wish a rim. This is in no way a universal fixture. I will post a picture of what I came up with.

Nutrafin Cycle Bio Filter Supplement - 8.4 Ounces

Nutrafin Cycle Bio Filter Supplement - 8.4 OuncesIf you have an aquarium, you need Cycle. Without it, you will very likely kill your fish in an attempt to cycle the water to safe levels. With it, you can get you water cycle process started quickly so that the fish do not perish in a new aquarium. When used regularly it can helps to keep the water in balance. I recently had high ammonia levels and found that I had to pour about half the bottle into the aquarium (12 gallon) in order to fix the problem, but it did work. Aquarium water can be very tricky to deal with and if you do not check it regularly or maintain it (vacuum debris, change filter as needed, test water) you will have problems. Cycle will help, but it alone will not keep the water healthy.

This is the best stuff on the market! Ive used it for years and depend on it! Never a dead fish! Thanks!

Tetra Whisper In-Tank Filter 20I with BioScrubber, 10 to 20-Gallon

Tetra Whisper In-Tank Filter 20I with BioScrubber, 10 to 20-GallonI bought this from a local supermarket (meijers) about 2 and a 1/2 years ago, when i first got my aquarium. it is lasted sense then with absolute zero problems. well, actually it does have the tendency to get small, weak, and/ or sick fish stock to the intake grill, but that can be expected from any good filter. It has kept the water crystle clear. When i first turned it on, it was so silent that i thought it was broken. If your a begining fish keeper, i strongly recomend this product.

I've been in the aquarium hobby 35 years, and this little filter out shines others for its ease of changing filter medium, water filtration and biological aides. I hung this on the rim of my 8 gallon goldfish bowl and it does a great job keeping the water clean and clear. Unlike other in tank filters, this one allows you to add your own activated carbon or other chemicals to the inside pocket of the filter. You can also clean the filter and add your own carbon which allows you to not have to put a new filter in every time you want to change it out. That's a money saver, which also allows for greater flexibility on what you want to use for the chemical filtration (ie. carbon, or ammo balls, or whatever inside the filter).

As others have mentioned, this filter is not an object of beauty. It is what it is an in tank filter. Those who don't want to see a large black plastic filter in their tank.... well, duh... get one that hangs on the outside of the tank!

Also, the filter moves quite a bit of water (which for my purposes is ideal). But, if you have small fish fry or sick fish, the intake of the filter is likely to be too strong and suck them into the filter. So be forewarned. If you have healthy fish and are looking for the best smallish in tank filter, it would be hard to find something better.

Buy Tetra Whisper In-Tank Filter 20I with BioScrubber, 10 to 20-Gallon Now

This thing is friggin massive. It takes up a ton of room in the tank. The reason why it's quiet is because the vibrations created by the motor are drowned out by the water around it. After all, it IS an internal filter, somewhat. The water flow is pretty strong. I ditched the flimsy biobags and black foam and just put in my own media instead (which is a lot cheaper and a hell of a lot easier to maintain). The advantages of the filter is that there's so much available space to put media, more than any equivalent HOB filter. the bad part is, it's in your tank and taking up valuable fish/tank space. It's sorta ugly, even though it's black.

BiOrb 15L Flow Aquarium, Black

BiOrb 15L Flow Aquarium, BlackWhen my two boys asked for betta fish, I started looking into desktop aquariums, since I didn't want to keep fish in tiny bowls. After a lot of debate, I decided on the Biorb Flow 15 and ordered two of them. Wow, are they pretty once they're set up and all decked out with plants and accessories! I originally thought our only option would be a cheap-looking old style aquarium, but the Flow is so cool looking, it actually adds to the decor of their rooms.

But pretty is only good if it works, right? Set up was a breeze, really couldn't have been simpler. I bought Hagen 25 watt mini heaters for the tanks since the Biorb heater kit is so expensive, and they work great. Clamped the tubing with paper clips to minimize the flow of the filter (bettas don't like to be tossed around) and was pretty much ready to go. A few days later, we brought home our fish.

In the first hour they were out of the bags, we had a disaster. The Biorb ceramic media is very large, and if you aren't careful to lay it properly, you can wind up with some fairly large gaps. One betta went exploring down in the media and got wedged in the corner of the tank, between the media and the glass. I got him out, but he was pretty shell-shocked. Fortunately, he recovered within a day and is doing fine.

I worried about the size of the tanks, since they're on the small side, but these little guys seem very pleased with their new homes. I've added lots of plants, grass rings, Feng-shui pebbles, topiary balls, and leaf hammocks, so they have numerous hiding places and things to swim around and investigate. I think the lighting is just fine, and the opening is more than big enough to do whatever you need to do in there.

The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. After the initial expense (which isn't small), you pretty much have to purchase all Biorb accessories if you want them to work with the tank. And they're pricy. It took three packages of pebbles per tank to get the look I wanted, three topiary balls apiece, two grass rings, and three plants (each). At Biorb prices, that's a chunk of change. But I'm not sorry, because they look great and our new little friends seem to be thriving!

Pros: Sleek looking design

Small footprint

Cons: Poor lighting. (very small LED light that only lights the middle of the tank not the sides at all.)

not enough lighting for live plants

You need to remove the light in order to get into the tank which makes it near impossible to see what youre doing inside the tank.

The small opening also makes it extremely difficult to catch fish in even a small net.

I could go on and on but honestly I've given this tank enough of my time. Save some money and frustration, if you're looking for a nano tank, and buy a fluval chi or nano.

Cons: the "corners" can be annoying to the eyes, the instructions say not to cover the filter base-it gets very dis colored so you're pretty much forced to buy a cover or go against the instructions and cover it with rocks.

I just have a Betta fish in there and it seems to be a perfect fit. The light is plenty bright for me and I don't mind the size of the opening. The only downside is the little pump that comes with it is kind of loud. According to the website it will get better with time and I also clipped the hose so not quite as much air is pumping through...this helped. It is a great aquarium if you want something compact and light...it is plastic and plastic can scratch, though.

Police Box Aquarium Ornament

Police Box Aquarium OrnamentThe interior edges of the openings are Sharp. To make them safe for my Betta's delicate fins I sanded them down with a hand held rotary tool. (Please do this outside, or wearing a particle filter mask so you don't breath resin!) Looks great in the tank, and my fish loves the roomy interior :)
