Halti Headcollar For Dogs

As a dog trainer, I love the Halti. They are a great alternative to the prong collars and choke collars. They redirect the dogs attention without hurting them in any way. I would suggest looking at one size down from what they suggest in the description. My size 3 fits most dogs 60-70 lbs. I have used it on Labradors, Am Staffs, Staffordshire Terriers, Huskies, etc. The size 4 are too big to use on most of these dogs.

This thing is terrific. I use it in combination with a harness, and a leash with two hooks (so the leash is hooked to the harness on the dog's back, and to the halti under the dog's chin). The halti sits loose on the dog's snout. The dog can open his mouth, drink water, eat a treat. But if he pulls or lunges, the halti clamps his mouth shut.

When we first got the halti, I was showing it to my dog to get him accustomed to it. Just in the living room. Well, he was extremely interested and wanted it on. I think the very light touch on his snout felt good to him. He wore it around the house for a day or two before I began walking him with it.

When we began to use it on walks, I was very careful not to pull the halti. For the first few days, all my leading was done with the harness. Well, the day came when he lunged and the halti clamped down on his snout.

That was it, he refused to wear it on the next walk. So I took him using the old collar and leash. But the next walk after that was at dinner time. I showed him his dinner then held it back and offered him the halti. He refused. I put dinner in the fridge. Half an hour later I took dinner out again, and again showed him dinner and offered him the halti. This time he accepted the halti. I put it on and he ate dinner while wearing it. Took him for a very long walk immediately after, and was careful not to pull on the halti.

Over time I have gradually used the leash with the halti, and now there is no issue at all. When he starts staring at another dog or at a cat, I use the halti to move his head and redirect where he's looking. It works like a charm. On the rare occasion that he lunges at a dog or cat, the halti clamps and it's very easy to pull him in another direction.

My only complaint is that the clasp is hard to close. The "female" part of the clasp is open-sided and the "male" part slips out the sides. The clasps on the harness are closed-sided and they fit together effortlessly, every time. With the halti clasp, I have to give it two or three tries before I have it positioned right. My dog has long hair and that makes it worse, because his hair will get caught in the clasp. I think catching the hair may be unavoidable because of the position of the band on his head but it would be minimized with a closed-sided clasp.

Life would be a lot easier if the clasp would connect on the first try. I walk my dog at least twice a day. Multiply that by taking several attempts each time to get the clasp positioned right and snapped closed without tangling up the dog's fur. I'm not dinging the stars for this because the halti itself works excellently for the purpose. But it really could be made better without much effort at all.

I purchased this for our German shepherd. We have tried choke collars, spike collars, gentle leader, and e-collars to get him to stop pulling on the leash when we walk him. This one finally did the trick. It works on the same principle as the gentle leader, but there is an important design difference that makes this more effective. There is an extra strap on each side that helps prevent the collar from slipping around his neck and out of place when he pulls. This makes all the difference. The portion that goes around his neck doesn't have to be as tight, making it easier to put on. The strap adjustment under his muzzle is easier to use. The nose piece is padded too. Great purchase, and I'm amazed we finally found something that works!

I bought this for my 15 pound (a little chubby) Cairn terrier. The size (small) is perfect and she loves it. She can now see what is going on and put her nose into the wind. I use it in my 2500 HD GMC Sierra and the height is perfect. It goes in an out as needed in probably 10 seconds and is well secured by the seat belt. I am going to modify it slightly and would offer my suggestion to the manufacturers as an improvement. The sides above the cushion are not stiff enough in my opinion and when Abby uses them to sit up and look out they tend to flop over. I am going to attach 2 inch strips of velcro strap on each side to connect the sides to the back. They can be unhooked to install the seat belt and then attached to give the sides additional rigidity. This small change I think will make the seat perfect.

The small drawer at the bottom of the seat is very handy to store a leash, toys and cookies. I bought the chocolate color ultra suede to match the interior of a new Avalon Hybrid we have on order. I am confident my friend will find it just as enjoyable in the car as in the truck. This is a very nice, high quality product.

I have tried many different car seats for my dog. For one dog in particular, none of them worked very well. They were all too flimsy and allowed the dog to move around too much (she's a very active little terrier), which could mean she would get hurt more easily in a car accident. I have wanted one of these Snoozer car seats for a long time and when I saw it on Amazon for only about $50, I jumped on it. It turned out to be perfect for the dog I had in mind. I really want another one,because I think that all of my dogs would like it, but I am not willing to spend the money now that the price has gone back up. I even think that $50 was quite a bit to pay for a doggie car seat, but now that I have the it, I am really glad that I spent the money on it. I will buy another one in a heartbeat if I find one on sale again.

Aqueon 06227 Siphon Vacuum Aquarium Gravel Cleaner Extender

First of all I thought this vacuum was going to be great because of the telescoping feature, well, when you try to stick the end in the gravel, the telescoped part just goes right back into the tube, and when you do manage to get it in the gravel, it just sucks up an entire tube-ful of it and then doesn't pick up anything else, and the gravel won't come out. I had to stop the siphon, and get the gravel out, then restart it again, and immediately the tube filled up with gravel again.

I do not recommend this product. it picks gravel up and they get stuck in the end. constantly having to pick rocks out of siphon. will work good for changing water though.

KONG Squeezz Ball with Handle for Dogs, Medium, Colors Vary

Even after the rope is chewed up, the ball survives (and still squeaks!). Good for dogs that like to play tug of war or fetch with a person.

This toy didn't last as long as I'd hoped. My 60 pound puppy loved it, and we did get to play tug for a few days. Once he started chewing the rope it was over though. The rope isn't terribly durable, but we still have the ball, which has a squeaker in it. My dog has started carrying it around the house and chasing it as it moves. This toy is a little pricey in my opinion, but was still fun, and if you don't mind the rope not lasting with a heavy chewer, then it's a great toy!

My dog's a medium sized dog, she loves to play tug-a-war, so i got this toy for her. I feel like it's just too small, it'd be way way better for a smaller dog. Otherwise the rope is durable, the handle is great, and my dog loves to play with it. We don't let her just play with it by herself, cause she'll definitely try to rip it apart. ahah Usually she loves the squeaky toys too but I think she's just too confused since the balls so small.

I would recommend this to someone who has a smaller dog, and maybe the large one for my size dog.

My dogs had the plastic which connects the ends of the rope destroyed in 5 minutes. It is not a tough toy for chewers.

TOM Mini Air Pump - 5gal to 10gal tank

with a bubble wand and it works great. The clear plastic covers on the bottoms legs are a nice addition. I think it does help in absorbing some of the noise, but for me it's still not quiet enough, and that's only because this tank is in my bedroom. At night, when it's quiet, it can be annoying, but during the day, I barely notice the sound.

UPDATE: 1/21/13

I changed my rating from 4 to 5, because it turns out that the noise was due to the fact that the airtube was too long. After shortening it so that it was just long enough, the air pump has been virtually silent. I am planning on getting another one for my other tank.

So I still have this little guy and it's still running to this day! the total amount of air being pumped has decreased over time but it's still a lot and enough to power 2 small stones, and 2 large 4" stone at about 3/4th from full. Great buy for the price!

Well i have had the pump for a few weeks now and it's running like is said it should. Had an old pump that died after like 4 years of use so it was time to replace, looked around a lot and found this to be the best pump for the job.

We have a 50Gal tank with 4 air stones. so far it has been running from the day we got it no problems so far.

I feel the other reviews over exaggerated the power of this air pump. Yes, it worked just fine, but there was no amazing airflow like other people thought. Based on the reviews I thought I could split both exit holes.. but I ended up having to buy another pump and not splitting anything to get the power I needed.

Marina Betta Habitat - Halfmoon

I've owned the Marina betta kit "Zen cube" version before, and I have to say it was very pretty but too small for the fish. A betta should have ideally a gallon (or possibly more) for them to be healthy and swim around.

This new one is larger (almost 1 gallon) and a lot nicer.

I got the LED lamp with it and some blue glass "rocks" at the bottom, with a few live plants, it looks very pretty.

My betta loves it, I've even put my miniature heater next to the aquarium at times for him to feel warm this winter (bettas can handle various temperatures pretty well, but they're tropical fish from Thailand originally -so the warm makes them feel good).

He keeps making a lot of bubbles at the top (they call those bubble nest), which is a sign that he is happy.

I think this is just the right size for a betta aquarium, the others are just too small (some of them are horribly tiny for the fish), but this one has enough room for the fish to swim around. He seems to love the live plants as well.

Not to mention that with the lighting, blue rocks reflection, the fish and his live plants, this aquarium really does embellish my room!

EDIT: There has been other reviews of this aquarium, but after reading them I realize they haven't actually bought the product. They're just giving their thoughts. I didn't know Amazon would allow that but anyways, this is what I have to say: There's a rule with most animals cages/aquarium, and that is the bigger the better. Then, it really all depends how well you take care of your pets. Some people would just buy it as an ornament and forget about it, but others will actually take care of it. I've owned many aquariums in the past (including a large 120 gallon) and I can tell you that although the bigger the better, it really depends on how you take care of them.

There's a secret: DO NOT overfeed your fish. In nature, they barely eat anything (if they find something), that's why they naturally spend their lives crawling for food, that's what their life consist of essentially. But in a controlled environment, it can be tempting to give them as much food as they could eat. The problem is, fishes do not store fats like we do. And those pellets and other fish food we buy are nutritionally very, very rich.

I grew up in a home with a 120 gallons aquarium back in the days when I was living in Europe, and we would only feed them once a week. Some of those fishes have lived for longer than 10 years, and others for as long as I can remember off. Bigger is better, but care is key.

The bottom line is, if you're genuinely interested into "adopting" a pet betta fish, then read about their needs. The internet is a wonderful space to learn. Don't get an aquarium too small -they're fishes, they need to swim for them to stay healthy. This one is just the right size for a small betta aquarium.

Bought this for my first betta fish. Thought I knew about the proper keeping of bettas, but after some reading I realized I was misinformed.

While this bowl might be good as a hospital or quarantine, I wouldn't want it as an "everyday" tank. By the time you add a plant, there isn't any room for the fish. Having to do daily water changes (necessary for this size unfiltered tank) is a pain in the rear.

We've since upgraded to a 6.6 gallon.

From personal experience as well as from research, I would not keep a Betta in a tank smaller than 3 gallons. Bettas actually don't live their whole lives in small puddles; they live most of their lives in vast rice paddies, thousands of gallons of naturally filtrated and aerated water, and only live in small puddles of water for 2 to 3 months a year during the dry season.

What's more, fancy bettas aren't as hardy as their wild buddies, and need more space and stimulation. This 3 liters (I think that was the measurement, but either way I've seen these sold at stores and they're far too small) is not what I would keep a Betta in forever; maybe a temporary home as I cleaned his tank or maybe while setting up the real one, but that's it.

However, this would look awesome with some plants in it! :-D

Great shape and too bad not a five gallon at least!

45 years experience, background in biology et al and lived in Japan where rice patties are huge systems (and the local rivers are where wild betta's may enter in these systems as well are full of algaes (even the cyanobacteria which works symbiotically with the rice for nitrogen fixing). Wild betters (former reviewer) are tough btw and due to inbreeding for ages now commercially grown ones are not so but none the less their instincts and their psychology demand more space (which means better water quality) just as you could not survive long... as found on a fish forum...

In a cold bathroom, with no room to move, with a toilet that was "cleaned" once in a while (to be determined by outside forces not by your needs) and on occasion bits of dried up solid food you can not recognize metabolically, shoved under the door and labeled "food" UGH.

I am always stunned to see anything under a five actually (better water chemistry esp for beginners, just because they surface breathe (still do through gills btw it is a survival mechanism during drought times not meant for for-ever) does not mean they can do well with amonia (burns delicate multi layered gill tissues OUCH!) and in bacteria laden cold water (or proper temp for that matter and unless you have an expensive small heater you are subject to coming home with cooked fish)...

Betta's tails are a single layer thin and as many find out too later subject to bacterial invasion esp as they languish on the small torture chambers bottom where all the bacteria are brewing.

I am more stunned therefore that in spite of such cups being sold as proper environments for any fish, that any one (who apparently does not do any real research on the subject and this does not mean ask Wahoo! type forums where blind lead the blind) WOULD even consider buying one.

I've done hundreds of betta rescues and it is a horrific way to go.. fish btw have pain receptors just as we do, and some are more sensitive then ours esp around the mouth after all they need this to survive!

Please never put your fish, esp this intelligent, curious, loves to roam and look about lovely fish. They will greatly reward you if you just do some serious research and add plants, and great water quality in a decent sized tank. They are living beings not objects.

Eheim - Jager 9" 50 Watt submersible heater

I can't say I have this exact model, but I do have an Ebo-Jager 50 watt heater that is about 15 years old and still as functional and accurate as ever. I have it set to 5.5 on the dial and it keeps my 5gal at a constant 80 degrees F. The on/off light is clearly visible. I would highly highly recommend this brand for its accuracy, consistency, and durability.

I had two other heaters before this and neither one kept tank temp constant. This one keeps it within a degree or two all the time.

Tetra Whisper In-Tank Filter 20I with BioScrubber, 10 to 20-Gallon

I bought this from a local supermarket (meijers) about 2 and a 1/2 years ago, when i first got my aquarium. it is lasted sense then with absolute zero problems. well, actually it does have the tendency to get small, weak, and/ or sick fish stock to the intake grill, but that can be expected from any good filter. It has kept the water crystle clear. When i first turned it on, it was so silent that i thought it was broken. If your a begining fish keeper, i strongly recomend this product.

I've been in the aquarium hobby 35 years, and this little filter out shines others for its ease of changing filter medium, water filtration and biological aides. I hung this on the rim of my 8 gallon goldfish bowl and it does a great job keeping the water clean and clear. Unlike other in tank filters, this one allows you to add your own activated carbon or other chemicals to the inside pocket of the filter. You can also clean the filter and add your own carbon which allows you to not have to put a new filter in every time you want to change it out. That's a money saver, which also allows for greater flexibility on what you want to use for the chemical filtration (ie. carbon, or ammo balls, or whatever inside the filter).

As others have mentioned, this filter is not an object of beauty. It is what it is an in tank filter. Those who don't want to see a large black plastic filter in their tank.... well, duh... get one that hangs on the outside of the tank!

Also, the filter moves quite a bit of water (which for my purposes is ideal). But, if you have small fish fry or sick fish, the intake of the filter is likely to be too strong and suck them into the filter. So be forewarned. If you have healthy fish and are looking for the best smallish in tank filter, it would be hard to find something better.

This thing is friggin massive. It takes up a ton of room in the tank. The reason why it's quiet is because the vibrations created by the motor are drowned out by the water around it. After all, it IS an internal filter, somewhat. The water flow is pretty strong. I ditched the flimsy biobags and black foam and just put in my own media instead (which is a lot cheaper and a hell of a lot easier to maintain). The advantages of the filter is that there's so much available space to put media, more than any equivalent HOB filter. the bad part is, it's in your tank and taking up valuable fish/tank space. It's sorta ugly, even though it's black.

hI have noticed this product is internal and best fit to my tanks(30 gallon) . Then, i have bought two of this product and it works perfectly for " one time only" . Every time, i tried to remodel and reset up my tank. They BROKE AFTER TAKE OUT AND PUT IT BACK. I try to disassemble(An electric engineering student) this filter to figure out what is going on; apparently, I did not find any wrong about this product why it BROKE. The power is no longer running and giving the sound. Thus, I have to return/exchange. Now, I WILL NO LONGER PURCHASE TETRA INTERNAL FILTER AGAIN!!!!

I have no real experience to draw upon, but my wife gave me this and a pair of Bettas as a gift. I am a writer and having this on my work desk is great! I will update if I find any trouble with keeping it clean, but so far, it has been a pleasure. Just because a Betta can survive in small conditions because in their natural environment during the drought season doesn't mean that we should keep them in those conditions. Many Bettas don't survive these rough conditions that nature provides in their home territory. If you buy small cups and throw a fish in themyou are just condemning them to solitary confinement in a prison cell. My Betta is in a 10 gallon tank and you wouldn't believe the fun he has exercising and playing in all that space. If you careyou would never subject this beautiful creature to cups of water if you saw them in gallons of HEATED (they are tropical fish) water!!!!!! Study this fish and you will understand that we take for granted their survival mechanisms and exploit them for our own foolish pleasure.

This tank is far too small for a fish. Bettas need more space, a gallon at the bare minimum to survive. Putting 1 fish in this tank is cruel, let alone 2. Small aquariums are subject to drastic temperature changes and are not as stable as larger ones. Bettas will be miserable in a tank this small. Please get educated about bettas before buying one. I kept my first betta, out of ignorance, in a small cube and it lived for 8 months, amazingly. There is plenty of info available online. They are not just live ornaments meant to sit in miserably confined jail cells, but living creatures that need warm and clean water, plant cover (live plants are needed for health and tank conditions), and space to live. My current betta lives in a 2 gallon tank with a small heater, and filter (which I run about half the time). He is happy, active, and curious. Bettas do not need air pumps since they get oxygen at the water surface. The only worthwhile use for this "aquarium" would be to hold your betta temporarily while you clean his larger tank, or transport him for some reason. Just because the tank is "compact and fits my desk well", does not mean it is a good idea. Buy a bigger tank and learn to properly care for your betta and he/she will make it known they are happy!

This product was given to me for a wonderful Christmas present as I had always expressed my fondness of the flashy, individualistic swimmers on passing pet store shelves. I got a red and a blue, one a plakkat and the other a half moon. Without knowing really anything about them I thought, it's so great they can be put in such compact little enclosures. What resilient little guys. But I was adding to the already incredible lack of foresight that clouds the image of bettas we the populace, know of them.

As I became familiar with them, I began to have doubts about how healthy their condition was and began to research the species. I felt like the worst pet owner in the world honestly. The red died after floating sideways for a day or so and I felt helpless, stupid, and lost. I still have blue but unfortunately haven't been able to move him into anything bigger. He's doing... alright for now. Currently I'm purchasing a 10 gallon, a heater and some water conditioners and stress zyme as well as real plants and a filter to keep my remaining little guy happy.

If you aren't prepared to actually put effort into raising a betta like any other fish, please. Pass by the fancy cups on your way down the isle and I promise the whimsy will pass. It's not just a toy for your kids, or a neat trinket to put on your desk. It's a very unique species of fish with wonderful inquisitive personalities and greatly underestimated needs. And frankly they don't deserve this. I'm not saying they're hard to take care of but just have some common sense.

These are fish that need to be kept warm, need to reach the surface to breathe air, need cover like plants to hide in, need to eat proper betta food since they are carnivores, and most importantly of all NEED TO BE KEPT IN A TANK OF 2-5 GALLONS.

This is A HALF GALLON TANK. That's bad enough but the fact that it advertises enough space for two is an OUTRAGE. Like almost every other 'betta' tank at your pet stores today they grievously undermine betta care. In fact I wouldn't doubt that they make the tanks so small so that it ensures the fact you'll be buying a new one from them soon.

Bettas live in small but most often CONNECTED pools of water in rice patties in Thailand. It's a complete ecosystem not an ammonia lethal incredibly cramped bowl. That's why they enjoy heat, plant cover, air to breathe AND SPACE.

Having such a small container for them (I won't even continue giving this product the decency of titling it a tank) highly increases the toxicity levels of ammonia fish naturally produce in their waste and uneaten food.

Even as I type this I'm looking over at my little guy. His tail had become tattered by stress, he's resting on the tank bottom (which is normal for sleep but he's slightly sideways) and I just feel the same helplessness of negligence.

Just please don't perpetuate the lies surrounding bettas, do your research. Don't buy this.

I needed this collar right away and actually purchased it for my 12 lb cat. The shipper took way too long, way past the last required date, so they refunded my money. But this size did fit my cat. By the time I received it, my cat no longer needed it, so he never wore it but I did look at it and it seems reasonably comfortable for a pet.

I needed a replacement T pump for my python water changer and this works> Just wanted to let everyone know.

I got this pump because a previous reviewer said it worked with the Python siphon. I needed to replace it. It looks exactly like it and the same size, but it's a different color (Python is green). This pump was a free shipping item and the Python pump was not, so I chose this one over the Python.

It hooks up to the faucet just like the Python, but make sure you keep the metal adaptor that came with your Python pump because the one that is on Lee's is plastic...booo. That can become weak and strip over time. Got everything hooked up just fine, but it was siphoning extremely slow. it took a while to get the water up the tube and to the sink and if I picked up the vac out of the water and then put it back in, the suction goes away completely. It won't suck up anymore unless I empty all of the water out of the entire line. Once it's all empty, I can slowly get my suction back. Oh, and if you hit the python switch to stop the flow for a second, the same thing happens. You have to empty all the water out of the line before you can start again. Very frustrating and takes a lot more time. It works but you'll be standing there for awhile. I have a 30g tank, so maybe people with smaller tanks have much more success. This is a great backup if you are in a bind, but I still suggest getting the Python pump for your Python vac.

Just got this little venturi, put it on the wash sink in the basement, which has a faucet that is threaded for a hose. Then hooked a full length garden hose to the side port and stuck the other end in the sump well, in the other corner of the basement.

Turn on the faucet, you create enough suction to raise water a few vertical feet through all that hose, believe it or not!

A lot easier than bailing the sump, if the power goes out.

Aquarium filters remove many harmful chemicals, but nitrates do accumulate over time, and the way to remove them is by periodic partial water changes, usually something like 20% per week. The old way was to siphon water out into a bucket, which was dumped down the sink, commode, or in the yard. The bucket was then refilled and poured back into the tank.

To change water in this manner was a little bit labor intensive on a small tank, and really time consuming on a larger tank.

I stumbled on my pump in a Thrift store, where I found it on a shelf for $1. In all honesty, I'm not 100% sure mine is Lee brand, as it wasn't in the original package, and there is no name on it. It may actually be a knock-off. Mine is made of blue plastic, and looks identical to the item pictured.

It operates by connecting it to a water supply, which can be either an outside hose spigot, or by using the adapter, a kitchen faucet.

Water flows through from top to bottom, past a venturi located where the side fitting is, creating a suction which will draw water out of the aquarium through a hose. I purchased 50 feet of clear vinyl hose from my local aquarium store, attached it to this device, and put a suction strainer on the other end to avoid sucking small fish into the hose.

In use, I drop the suction strainer into the tank, unroll the hose, and attach the pump to the water tap outside my front door. Opening the diverter (the blue collar) on the pump outlet, then turning on the water tap starts a siphon which removes as much water from my tank as I desire (water tap can be closed once siphon starts so long as the pump is lower than the tank, siphon will continue).

Closing the diverter on the pump outlet stops the siphon, and opening the water tap with the diverter closed refills the tank.

I can't imagine any way to make water changes any easier. I've been using this device for years now, and it still works great.

There are also attachments which allow you to vacuum the gravel with the water siphoning out of the tank, if you feel the need to perform this task (I never vacuum because I don't use an undergravel filter, because I use EcoComplete substrate, and because I have fish which eat any food which falls to the bottom, so for me, the need simply isn't there).

Laguna PowerJet 2400 Electronic Fountain Pump Kit

I just purchased the PowerJet 2400 and the pump cage was improperly assembled at the factory. The top was forced during assembly and broke a hole in the top of the cage. I spoke with a Laguna (Hagen) representative who expected me to ship the unit to them and they would decide the course of action. This is completely unacceptable as I need a pump now. Their attitude of "the customer is wrong until proven right" is not one I care to do business with. I expect to receive a non-defective product whenever I buy something and sure do not expect to pay freight to return their defective product to them.

10/18/2010 I patched up the broken portion and have been using this pump continuously for almost 2 years and it has functioned perfectly. The small holes in the cage do plug up with algae growing on the screen and in some particularly heavy growth periods it has to be cleaned frequently. I have compared several pumps and this is the lowest wattage pump for the flow rate I have found. Actual measurements even taking consideration of the power factor it draws only 83 Watts. I am completely satisfied with the pump and am considering another only this time the Max Flo pump for the larger holes in the cage.

I chose this pump because it is the direct replacement for the one I replaced in my small fish pond. The price was the best I found by far and I received the pump sooner than was expected.

I got this for my 10 gallon tank and it looks beautiful in the tank! It has a nice heavy ceramic bottom, and is quite big, all spread out (how it looks in the tank) it as wide as a grown mans hand, and has some leaves shorter than others giving my fish plenty of places to swim through the branches. My fish seem very happy and it looks great in my tank! This was a great buy and this is a beautiful plant in my tank!!! Highly recommend, it is extremely gorgeous (it seems larger than the picture looks!), however, the measurements are right (it just looks small in the photo, but it is a great size)!
