Hydor 25w Hydrokable Substrate Heater, 14' - for Aquariums 10-17 gal

Hydor 25w Hydrokable Substrate Heater, 14' - for Aquariums 10-17 galI purchased this for a planted aquarium. It heats so evenly. It sounded like a great idea to use as an under the sand heating cable so the entire tank is evenly heated. It works so well. The plants took off growing like crazy. I am so glad I tried it. It has been a year. At first like any heater, I had to adjust it until the correct temp was being delivered and I have not had to touch it since. I am totally thrilled with this product. Any hydor product has been fine for me. I used the dial thermoset with this not the digital version.

Update: it is now 3-09-2013 and I have been using this heater cable for two years in a heavily planted aquarium with assorted tetras, crystal red shrimp and guppies. The plants and fish are all in great shape. I attribute some of the stability of the tank to the heater cable since it is even heat distribution with no fluctuations. I have experienced no issues so I am not sure what to think of the other reviews I am reading. Perhaps they did not also purchase the required heat regulator? It controls the cable with a dial to select the desired temp. You would need to let these components acclimate to room temperature before using, install them properly (not touching another length of cable on the bottom of the tank and not extending the heating part outside of the tank the first black band is the line separation of non heated and the heated part of the cable which should be in the water). I could not be happier with this style of heating and have set up tank number two (saltwater) with it as well. It also is working well, one month out. I learned many years ago how detrimental heaters can be with the submersable type if not laced within a great flow of water to avoid uneven heat. With the cable heater, I have no worries and no complaints at all. If there was another rating 5 star plus, I would choose it.

I am using it on a 15 gallon aquarium freshwater and a 8 gallon aquarium saltwater

I ordered this heater for a 12 gallon aquarium in my office, which is located in our walkout basement. In the winter, this is a colder room, low to mid 60s. The 25W heater simply could not get my 12 gallon tank to 80 degF; the best it could manage was 74 degF, and this was only when I had warmed my office with a space heater. I ended up having to take the whole aquarium apart again to replace it with the 50W substrate heater, which now keeps my aquarium at the desired 80 degF. So I would recommend to use the next largest power rating up from what Hydor recommends, especially if your aquarium is located in a colder room. You don't want to have to take your aquarium apart again to replace the heater.

Note the low rating is for the bad recommendation on tank size from Hydor. Once installed so that they have enough power to heat, these are great.

Coralife (Energy Savers) ACL53112 65-Watt Double Freshwater Aqualight Power Center Strip, 24-Inch

Coralife ACL53112 65-Watt Double Freshwater Aqualight Power Center Strip, 24-InchI have three of these 24" units over my 72" long 125 gallon tank.

They are great for my purposes of growing plants, but I will give the pros and cons as I suspect that the negatives may outweigh the positives to many people.

Pros:

Great lighting that makes the tank and the fish look gorgeous!

My tank is freshwater, and I can grow any kind of plant I want with these lights! I also credit Purigen and Sea Chem fertilizers for my success with plants).

As my tank is filled with new growths of easy plants that tolerate less light but flourish in higher illumination like java moss or hornwort almost every week, I routinely produce new plants for my other tanks with standard T8 lighting.

Cons:

Because these lights are bright, they run hot, making the fan on the fixture loud. One of my three lights routinely gets stuck in a noise pattern in which a hum developed near the fan vent which is on the top of the fixture and keeps getting louder and LOUDER. Although I can quiet the light by (gently) thwacking on the fan, I doubt that this is very good for the light in the long run! The noise overwhelms any noise coming from my Eheim and Penn Plax canister filters, so if you are noise sensitive forget these lights unless you are good at fixing this type of thing.

There are TWO light bulbs on the fixture, and a replacement light bulb for these fixtures are quite expensive, so you have to shop around in order to spend a bundle on a light bulb.

Again, the look of my planted aquarium and the production of plants outweighs these (admittedly big) negatives to me, but you must decide for yourself.

I needed a light fixture of this length for a project. The fixture had to be of good quality and very reliable-no funky power failures or over-heating. This unit has performed flawlessly. It looks great and works great. NO problems. Buy with confidence.

PETCO Multi-Functional Tool for Glass Aquariums

PETCO Multi-Functional Tool for Glass AquariumsThis is a great tool to have if you have an aquarium. I have used all three attachements many times. I usually buy the glass and acrylic scrubbing pads seperately and attach them to the velcro-like scrubber head, even though I dont think it is designed to be used this way, because I can always replace the pads, and I wouldn't want to have to buy this tool again. I use it all the time, but it still only gets 3 stars because the price is really high. So, if you have money to blow, you'll probably want this for your aquarium.

Lee's Ultra GravelVac, Self-Start with Nozzle & Hose Clip - 5" Mini

Lee's Ultra GravelVac, Self-Start with Nozzle & Hose Clip - 5' MiniI have 2 aquariums, one is 10 gallon and the other is 2 gallon. This works on both. I put it in the water and shake it gently a few times and the water goes up the tube no problem. Does a great job of cleaning out the gravel. No need to remove the fish, either. They just swam around while I worked. I even recommended it to my sister. I love it.

It's a siphon. If you want to siphon out water and clean the gunk out of your substrate, this is the tool to use. I use it on a ten gallon, and I like that it is simple and that it has a clip to keep it attached to the bucket. It's a less sloppy way of doing weekly water changes. Bad reviews on this guy seem to be user error.

Make sure you follow the rules of physics and that you keep an eye on the bucket, because when the siphon starts, the water flows quickly. When you are siphoning the gravel, push the rim of the cylinder straight down to the bottom of the tank like a cookie cutter. Don't move it side to side or you will disturb the sediment and make your tank temporarily cloudy and raise up toxic junk from the substrate.

Buy Lee's Ultra GravelVac, Self-Start with Nozzle & Hose Clip - 5" Mini Now

For it to be a 5" mini, you need to take the vaccuum part off which negates the lower water flow needed to clean a smaller nano tank. In the more detailed description it says it is 2.1"x6.5"x15.5." In real life, the end of the vacuum end is 3.5" across, not 2.1" and it stands 7" tall. Since it needs to be fully submerged to work, it will not work in my low-water level aquarium. Also, 3.5" across seemed a bit wide to manuever around all my plants well. Do not know how long the hose is since I did not open it. Seller gave quick and full refund incl. leaving a voice mail to let me know. Delivery was extremely fast. However, if I had known its true dimensions, I would have known it would not work for me and would not have ordered it in the beginning.

I purchased this product to clean the gravel in my aquariums (I have 2 10 gal tanks). Even though it appears to be based on the simple practice of syphoning-it is very difficult to get the syphon to work. I tried several different methods (including the one on the package) and couldn't get it going. Instead I had a huge mess on my hands with water everywhere.

There are more complicated and higher priced syphons available. Perhaps one of these will work better. This one just doesn't work.

PraziPro - 4 oz.- treats up to 480 Gallon

PraziPro - 4 oz.- treats up to 480 GallonThis product worked great in my reef tank, I didn't have to remove any of the corals, I didn't have to catch the fish that had worms.

All I did was apply the medication and with in 3 to 4 days I could see the fish was clearing up.

After the first dose the tapeworms and fluke symptoms my fish were experiencing all but dissapeared. It did not harm my snails, shrimp, plants or biological filtration. How can you go wrong?

It took just one treatment for me to notice a difference in two days. I purchased fish from two different stores in a new tank. Soon after a couple were not doing well and with a new tank I wasn't sure which fish caused the sickness. I ended up treating the entire tank (removing the carbon) and withing a few days everyone looked great!

This is actually my second order (first was a mini bottle) 75 gallon tank.

This is a very powerful and safe product...BUT be prepared for the skimmer to NOT work for over a week. This stuff takes a long time to break down to say the least. Tons of bubbles and over skimm first. The product does say no skimming but had no idea how long that period will be. On the other hand had an emergency with a purple tang and what looked like larger white ulcers out of the blue in over 9 years of perfect health and it was gone in a day with this. So worth having availible.

Crypto Pro

Crypto ProI purchased this because my fish caught velvet from a bad shipment of fish. Yes, I've learned my lesson and will quarantine from now on. Another mistake I made is thinking this stuff would be safe for my scaleless fish. All my scaleless fish died after using this product. Copper actually hurt them less! I did remove all traces of copper before I added this medication. My scaled fish never improved and continued to die while covered in gold dust. I won't bother with this product again since it has health risks to humans and never helped my fish.

It is too strong for discus. I stopped us it after 3 days. Discus had shock. It is not for discus.

Microbe Lift 16-Ounce Pond Concentrated Extract Barley Straw MLCBSE500

Microbe Lift 16-Ounce Pond Concentrated Extract Barley Straw MLCBSE500Having an organically-maintained/designed yard, no chemicals are used anywhere in our property. Our pond is 4 years old, around 10,000 gallons in size, 4 feet at the deepest point. Barley extract is the sole add-on for maintaining this pond, outside of:

A. periodic cleanups (minimal work: emptying skimmer baskets depending on the wind/weather, rinsing filters, adding extra water due to evaporation);

B. a major cleanup (since it takes half a day or so) in spring after all the ice thaws out; and

C. unscheduled cleanups immediately after storms pass by when a lot of leaves come flying out of the woods (our property is surrounded by trees and conservation forest).

All fish (1 dozen gold fish/koi and 1 dozen other small types caught from the wild) stay in the pond over the winter. We do not feed these fish, they get enough nutrition from the natural plants growing or creatures living in or visiting the pond. We initially started with 7 gold fish/kois and added the others over time. I remove some of them when they get too large, or when they make babies.

We see most of the fish (specially the bright orange ones) clearly even from our second floor window (the pond is ~50 feet away from the house). The pond looks natural and clean, however, we do not expect this pond to look like sparkling clean drinking water!

A lot of people may not understand that organically maintained and balanced pond does not equate to sterile, artificially sparkling clean pool water! I think that is a major issue when people complain about their ponds.

Our pond can get out of shape when I do not do regular cleanups. But we try to monitor and correct problems before they get out of control. For example, if the waterfalls are not pushing the right amount of water, we check things out in the filters -one time there was a poor dead frog in the pump's filter! If we've waited too long to remove the leaves, or forgot to add the barley extract for several weeks, and there is an algae bloom, we scrub the rocks all around and drain at least 25% of water then add fresh water (we've only done that once so far). When everything looks good, we resume adding barley extract again as scheduled.

So, my point here is that Barley Straw Extract really works if applied correctly, but how well it works depends on one's realistic expectation... it definitely does not work like a harsh swimming pool chemical, and it really works well for organically-maintained pond. (If any pond water ever gets too awful looking, I'd recommend scrubbing algae all over and pumping out most of the water and start with 90% clean water to make the barley straw's job more effective).

I have tried several brands of Barley Straw Extract and they all pretty much perform the same way. The only failure is usually on my part, when I forget to add as scheduled!

I usually compare the volume of water that can be treated by a specific amount of the extract, by brand, and I've found that:

1. The most expensive ones are usually those of big name brands.

2. Pricewise, it is best to buy the extract by the gallon.

I've used this product several times. I highly recommend it. My stepdad has a huge Koi and he uses the product also. We both love it.

Buy Microbe Lift 16-Ounce Pond Concentrated Extract Barley Straw MLCBSE500 Now

We have a small pond (approx 300 gals) with several small goldfish, and were looking for something besides algaecides that would help clear up the water a little more so we could see the fish better. There's also some cold-hardy water lilies in the pond and 2 Pondmaster pump/filters.

I tried barley bales with no luck and thought maybe the liquid would work better, but we didn't have any luck with this product either. I followed the instructions and used the whole bottle over a period of several months, but couldn't notice any difference in the water clarity at all. Usually, the water clears up some during the winter as the algae seems to die off from the coldness of the water, but besides that there wasn't any difference in clarity once the water warmed up in the spring/summer.

I'm not saying that the product isn't effective, I'm just saying that it didn't work for us which is why I gave it 2 stars. I'm hesitant to use an algaecide because of the water plants and the depletion of oxygen that results and was truly hoping this would be a viable alternative.

Hydor H2Show Color Mix LED Aquarium Light

Hydor H2Show Color Mix LED Aquarium LightI was hoping for a bright light show that I could have Shining through the bubbles on the back wall of my aquarium, but not so much. It's hard to position with the size and suction cup, but is cool when all other light are off at night and it shines through the tank making shadows of all the fish on the wall

I have a heavily planted tank so I make sure to regulate the day/night cycle. By using a few of these I can still enjoy my aquarium after the lights are out. Using it with the bubble maker is fantastic. I'd buy them from Foster and Grant so you don't get ripped off on the shipping.

Eshopps PF Nano Overflow Box - Up to 50 gal.

Eshopps PF Nano Overflow Box - Up to 50 gal.Don't forget to rinse everything before use

Product has conflicting information. Amazon product description says flow rate is 200 gph. The enclosed instruction and Eshopps web site say 100 gph. My pump is 150gph and it seems okay.

Product is made from sturdy Plexiglas. The U-tube has little scratch on the inside surface. It doesn't seem to affect the performance.

The bulkhead size is 1.25 in. I connect a corrugated washing machine hose ($9) from Home Depot to the bulkhead secured with a cramp.

Instructions do not have any diagram. You figure it yourself (come on Eshopps. Can't you hire an illustrator or graphic designer?)

No need to siphon! Simply connect the box with the U-tube and submerge the entire thing in the water. Ensure no air is inside the U-tube and the box. Raise is up slowly while keeping the water in the box. Hang it on the tank. Done!

In case of power goes off, the U-tube will self-start. I tested this. I just need to connect my pump with a swing valve so the water does not flow back to the sump.

Overflow box does not produce any noise.

Nice little owerflow but the "U" hose who goes over from the tank and in to the outside box was overbendt from the producer and broke when trying to fit it. I would prefer to have the adjusting screw at the bottom outside to be a bit longer or the "bridge" who lies over the glass to be a bit shorter, very few have 3 cm wide glass in a nanotank. Due to this I have to find someting extra to put between the glass and the adjusting screw to eliminate movement and fish gettin stuck behind the internal box.

Action Air® Treasure Chest Live-Action Aerating Aquarium Ornaments

Action Air® Treasure Chest & Diver Live-Action Aerating Aquarium Ornament - Color May VeryThis is really cute and works great but the chest is a lil light you need to make sure the rocks help hold it down!

This little chest works great, however make sure you get or have an air flow valve to cut down the airflow to this. I have a separate bubbler and this chest. The air opening in the chest is large so all of the air comes out of it and keeps the lid open, and no air flowed to my bubbler until I put a small valve to turn the flow down. Now it works like a charm.

I love the idea of the diver going up and down as the treasure chest opens and closes. Unfortunately, the chains attaching the diver to the chest are cheaply made, so the diver came off and I had to sort of rig him so he stays attached to the chest. Due to the rigging, he doesn't go up and down when the chest opens and closes.

I love this fish tank ornament! Great colors and well made. The lid stays open all the time, but it still looks great. The bubbles are a nice feature. Divers hangs perfectly. It's light, so I silicon glued a rock to the bottom of the chest to make sure it stays down. The glue is safe for fish. The rock is covered by gravel, so it's not visible. I bought a second one, since divers should be in pairs. :o)

Algae Cleaning Magnet

Algae Cleaning Magnet Size: MediumBought this for my 10gal and 55gal glass tanks. It comes with interchangable pads for either glass or acrylic. Works well and doesn't scratch at all. Kinda freaks my fish out when I use it, but they only hide for a couple of minutes.

Works really good on my 75 gallon tank. Bit overkill maybe but it takes no time at all to clean the glass.

Submersible Heaters

Tetra Submersible 50-Watt HeaterI wish I could give this product a worse score than 1 star. Purchased this heater from Wal-mart in a pinch because the heater that came with the aquarium broke (was a very cheap one) and I didn't want the temperature to drop since it was winter. Kept an eye on the thing for the first few weeks of having it and everything seemed to be ok. This week the dumb thing short circuited because it got water inside somehow and continually heated the tank. I discovered this when I got home from work. I noticed unusual behavior in a frog I had in the aquarium. On further inspection my other frog was already dead on the bottom of the tank and the water was almost 100 degrees F. The frog that was still alive was just floating in the current from the filter and had a bad fungal infection that had sprouted up overnight. Removed him to a treatment tank and did what we could but the poor guy didn't make it. This is a horrible product. I would not recommend this to anyone and I wish I hadn't bought the product because I lost 2 very dear pets.

I have purchased 3 of these Tetra Heaters in the past 5 months, and all of them have quit. The warranty only allows you to pay shipping both ways, either to fix yours, or they will send another one. I do not want any more of these Tetra heaters, and am looking for another brand. I wouldn't waist your money.

Buy Submersible Heaters Now

I bought this heater (from WalMart)last week for my 5 gallon tank. When I first put it in the tank the red light came on. After maybe a minute or so the light turned off. I wondered whether or not it was heating the water...

After a couple days I moved the heater to my 10 gallon tank. The light did not come on, even after unplugging and replugging it. It's been in this tank for about three days, and the light hasn't come on. The temperature has actually dropped a few degrees since being in this tank. I will be returning it to the store as soon as possible.

Great for a community tank. I have this one and many other silks in my 75 gallon. Thinking about getting some more!

I'm very pleased with the look of this plant. You can't really tell from the picture but on one side there is a cluster or purple leaves that add a great touch. Aqueon 01206 Betta Bowl Starter Kit

Aqueon 01206 Betta Bowl Starter KitI have no real experience to draw upon, but my wife gave me this and a pair of Bettas as a gift. I am a writer and having this on my work desk is great! I will update if I find any trouble with keeping it clean, but so far, it has been a pleasure. I have no trouble with the divider if I simply open the feeding hatch and place my finger on the divider when I remove the lid.

So far, my Bettas seem happy in their new home.

This product looks great, and as a mom who wanted to get a gift for her daughter's seventh birthday, it sounded like a perfect fit (since her five year old sister would also want one of her own fish). It is partially my fault for not doing further research before making the purchase, but after discussing it with a Petco fish professional and doing further internet research, it was made clear to me that ONE Betta fish needs at least ONE GALLON of water If you think a fish is an "easy" pet to start off with like I did, do your research if you want you fish to live. You'll want your kids to learn to do the same before making decisions involving live animals!

Buy Aqueon 01206 Betta Bowl Starter Kit Now

Just because a Betta can survive in small conditions because in their natural environment during the drought season doesn't mean that we should keep them in those conditions. Many Bettas don't survive these rough conditions that nature provides in their home territory. If you buy small cups and throw a fish in themyou are just condemning them to solitary confinement in a prison cell. My Betta is in a 10 gallon tank and you wouldn't believe the fun he has exercising and playing in all that space. If you careyou would never subject this beautiful creature to cups of water if you saw them in gallons of HEATED (they are tropical fish) water!!!!!! Study this fish and you will understand that we take for granted their survival mechanisms and exploit them for our own foolish pleasure.

Read Best Reviews of Aqueon 01206 Betta Bowl Starter Kit Here

This tank is far too small for a fish. Bettas need more space, a gallon at the bare minimum to survive. Putting 1 fish in this tank is cruel, let alone 2. Small aquariums are subject to drastic temperature changes and are not as stable as larger ones. Bettas will be miserable in a tank this small. Please get educated about bettas before buying one. I kept my first betta, out of ignorance, in a small cube and it lived for 8 months, amazingly. There is plenty of info available online. They are not just live ornaments meant to sit in miserably confined jail cells, but living creatures that need warm and clean water, plant cover (live plants are needed for health and tank conditions), and space to live. My current betta lives in a 2 gallon tank with a small heater, and filter (which I run about half the time). He is happy, active, and curious. Bettas do not need air pumps since they get oxygen at the water surface. The only worthwhile use for this "aquarium" would be to hold your betta temporarily while you clean his larger tank, or transport him for some reason. Just because the tank is "compact and fits my desk well", does not mean it is a good idea. Buy a bigger tank and learn to properly care for your betta and he/she will make it known they are happy!

Want Aqueon 01206 Betta Bowl Starter Kit Discount?

This product was given to me for a wonderful Christmas present as I had always expressed my fondness of the flashy, individualistic swimmers on passing pet store shelves. I got a red and a blue, one a plakkat and the other a half moon. Without knowing really anything about them I thought, it's so great they can be put in such compact little enclosures. What resilient little guys. But I was adding to the already incredible lack of foresight that clouds the image of bettas we the populace, know of them.

As I became familiar with them, I began to have doubts about how healthy their condition was and began to research the species. I felt like the worst pet owner in the world honestly. The red died after floating sideways for a day or so and I felt helpless, stupid, and lost. I still have blue but unfortunately haven't been able to move him into anything bigger. He's doing... alright for now. Currently I'm purchasing a 10 gallon, a heater and some water conditioners and stress zyme as well as real plants and a filter to keep my remaining little guy happy.

If you aren't prepared to actually put effort into raising a betta like any other fish, please. Pass by the fancy cups on your way down the isle and I promise the whimsy will pass. It's not just a toy for your kids, or a neat trinket to put on your desk. It's a very unique species of fish with wonderful inquisitive personalities and greatly underestimated needs. And frankly they don't deserve this. I'm not saying they're hard to take care of but just have some common sense.

These are fish that need to be kept warm, need to reach the surface to breathe air, need cover like plants to hide in, need to eat proper betta food since they are carnivores, and most importantly of all NEED TO BE KEPT IN A TANK OF 2-5 GALLONS.

This is A HALF GALLON TANK. That's bad enough but the fact that it advertises enough space for two is an OUTRAGE. Like almost every other 'betta' tank at your pet stores today they grievously undermine betta care. In fact I wouldn't doubt that they make the tanks so small so that it ensures the fact you'll be buying a new one from them soon.

Bettas live in small but most often CONNECTED pools of water in rice patties in Thailand. It's a complete ecosystem not an ammonia lethal incredibly cramped bowl. That's why they enjoy heat, plant cover, air to breathe AND SPACE.

Having such a small container for them (I won't even continue giving this product the decency of titling it a tank) highly increases the toxicity levels of ammonia fish naturally produce in their waste and uneaten food.

Even as I type this I'm looking over at my little guy. His tail had become tattered by stress, he's resting on the tank bottom (which is normal for sleep but he's slightly sideways) and I just feel the same helplessness of negligence.

Just please don't perpetuate the lies surrounding bettas, do your research. Don't buy this.

Looks better in the picture. In the aquarium it looked fake until the algea started to grow on it. It definitaly isn't front of the aquarium decoration.

This is just the right size for a 20 gallon set up that i have for my Multi Shell Dweller Cichlids. Blends right in with my sand and 3D background. Looks just like real rock, even has "grit" on it for an authentic texture.

Highly recommend this to anybody who wants to decorate their aquarium with something natural looking without having to actually search for just the right rocks.

Acriflavine-MS 16 oz

Acriflavine-MS 16 ozGreat product to clear up shell rot without a lot of work. It does make a huge mess though. Everything turns yellow. It's been weeks and the water is still yellow with several partial water changes. I don't think it stains though as it has come out of everything like the hose and the bucket. My turtle is healthy again! I wish they sold this at a local pet store. I'm fine with internet ordering, but this didn't have a Prime option, so I had to wait a few days. Normally not a big deal, but with a sick turtle, I wanted it immediately.

This bottle is larger than you are ever going to need unless you are very unlucky with fish, turtles, and other things aquatic. It hasn't really solved our particular problem (turtle hatchlings with scraped up arm pits... long story) but it isn't really advertised for this particular purpose it was recommended by a water turtle web site.

Anyhoo... I suppose I should say "I love it" but how can you love a medicine that has been in use for weeks while one's little guys and gals get Slowly better and there's no way to tell how much it is contributing? Not an instant fix, not allowing things to get worse, maybe holding off infection while they heal in their own slow way... I'd buy more if there were more scrapes... Except this bottle will last forever. Sixteen ounces is a lot given how little one uses, and the price is therefor cheap.

I've lost so many fish to Columnaris Flexibacter over the years (virulent disease that affect my goldfish during winter-to-spring when their immune system is low). I started using Acriflavine MS last year. I wished I'd know about this med a long time ago I could've saved a lot of beautiful fancies.

Glad I have it multi-stocked on my shelf now for any emergency. This med has saved my ranchus & orandas from columnaris, velvet & bacterial infections time and time again. Thanks to FishVet for a great product!

This is good for velvet, Columnaris, and other parasitic and bacterial infections. It can be used to treat new fish before introducing them to the community tank. Note, though It will kill your plants, so you might want to put the fish in a bare tank for treatment.

TOM TM1277 Aquarium Filter Cartridge 3 pack fits Rapids Power Filter PF-80

TOM TM1277 Aquarium Filter Cartridge 3 pack fits Rapids Power Filter PF-80The Rapids Power Filter is not very common in big box stores like Petco, so I either need to drive 15 miles to buy it from a local store or get it from Amazon. The price is the same ($10).

I was recommended to change these filters about once a month, which is a reasonable upkeep cost ($3/mo).

My 5 gallon tank stays clean and the fish are happy... so there's not much else to ask for!

The filter works well for the fish, however, the price tag is high and shipping costs are high too.

I guess low demand and high cost to off set low sales of item. Overall, a good product.

Cat Dancer 101 Cat Dancer Interactive Cat Toy

Cat Dancer 101 Cat Dancer Interactive Cat Toyi consider myself relatively creative professionally (am in marketing) so kept making a variety of what i thought would be fun toys for my cat. they ranged from simple to ornate things you throw, things that move on their own, things that crawl, things that bounce, monochrome/colorful/etc. one day a colleague told me about this product, and from its description (a piece of wire with some wrapped paper) i was incredulous. she swore by it, so i bought it (cant beat the price)....

...my cat was obsessed. no other toy could distract her and amuse her the way this one did. i'd drag it and whip it around and she'd chase it everywhere. i could wake her from her sleep just by the sound of it rubbing against the rug, and she'd be off and chasing.

she NEVER tired of this toy. and our new kitten (and her new friend) took to it right away as well.

this 'toy' pissed me off to no end because it was so basic and simple, and yet worked where my ornate and 'thought out' toys (e.g. mini remote controlled cars with feathers attached) didnt.

I was super-skeptical when I took this thing out of the bag.

It is literally a length of wire with some twisted brown paper bits on the ends (kindof like pieces of the thin round handles on a brown paper shopping bag). There's one piece on the end that you hold, and maybe 4 or so on the target-end for the kitty. The stiffness of the wire is just perfect such that when you hold it lightly, and the cat bats at the end, it bounces and flies all over the place, with near-zero effort on your part. You can, of course, move it some more on your own and entertain the cat with more movement, but it works very well to just hold the wire lightly. I was a little worried that it might poke an eye out or something, but the ends of the wire are bent into loops so that shouldn't happen. It is a stiff, significant-gauge wire though. Really, it's crazy-simple, but really effective. My kitten gets bored with the fancy feather wand I have for him, but he keeps going with the Cat Dancer until I take it away from him because I'm too tired to hold it out and watch to be sure he doesn't chomp down on too much wire. I wouldn't pay a lot for it, solely because I'd feel like a dolt for shelling money out for wire and paper/cardboard twisty bits, but it's a great toy.

Both of my cats really love this and my wallet adores it because it's cheap as well as being on the fairly durable side as well. My cats are active (they love to play, run after and catch things) and like to play two or three times a day. As several other reviewers have noted, you should keep a light grip/pinch on one end and that's enough to make the other end swing and weave around in the air. Then, just roll your end between your fingertips a bit and it'll bounce a bit and swing around and (hopefully) entice your kitties play with the other end. I've also held it in the middle and let both cats go at their seperate end but it's stiffer that way and doesn't move as much.

Boo is about four and half years old and the other, Poxie, is three. Poxie will play with anything that moves (or is shiney and will chew carboard for the heck of it), so she loves it. Boo is a bit pickier likes to "stalk" things and be convinced that he really does want to play. I usually to drag this around and wiggle it on the floor a bit to catch his interest but he always comes around and will start batting at it in the air as well. Both will go wild if it wiggles (and makes noise), just barely visiable, from the edge of a cardboard box or paper bag though =)

It holds up very well, they will pounce and chew on the cardboard and wire. The ends of the cardboard do fray a bit and get soggy but they're tightly coiled with the wire and it lasts a good amount of time. The price is great also, so no qualms about getting a new one very couple of months!

Just a warning to all who have this toy. Be careful and don't leave this toy around unattended. Plus, make sure to throw it away once the cardboard pieces get old and are falling to pieces. My friends cat recently almost choked to death on the hook that holds the cardboard pieces together. Luckily she eventually threw it up, but it could have turned out very ugly.
