Marineland LED Aquarium Light

Marineland LED Aquarium LightAfter already once replacing some cheap starters and bulbs in my standard top over a 55 gal. tank, I got fed up and did a search for an alternative that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I spotted these LED units, reasonably priced. I bought 2 of them, and positioned them in place of the 18" fluorescent fixtures. They are very low profile, so they don't hide the filters, air and misc. on the back of the tank as well, but other than that, they sit very nicely on top of the tank, provide adequate (LED) lighting, and have a 'moonlight' setting which looks great at night. I'm pleased and would recommend these. Note, I have these over a freshwater tank, so I'm not supporting saltwater marine life. However, I do have some plants gathered from some local lakes that seem to be thriving under these lights.

API Melafix Extra Strength Cichlid, 8-Ounce

API Melafix Extra Strength Cichlid, 8-OunceI hate medicating a Fish tank but sometimes you have to. I had a Flower Horn Cichlid develop an eye infection that turned into Pop eye. This helped get him better and today he is fine. I also have more left over for another time. For eye problems..I say try this first, It helped my fish. No medications are miraculous but I did like this. It has a strong medicine odor but it helped the fish and that's what mattered. You DO have to remove the carbon. Remember, carbon acts like a sponge and would just absorb all the meds if you didn't remove it. Hope I was able to save a fish! Good luck.

Submersible Heaters

Tetra Submersible 50-Watt HeaterI wish I could give this product a worse score than 1 star. Purchased this heater from Wal-mart in a pinch because the heater that came with the aquarium broke (was a very cheap one) and I didn't want the temperature to drop since it was winter. Kept an eye on the thing for the first few weeks of having it and everything seemed to be ok. This week the dumb thing short circuited because it got water inside somehow and continually heated the tank. I discovered this when I got home from work. I noticed unusual behavior in a frog I had in the aquarium. On further inspection my other frog was already dead on the bottom of the tank and the water was almost 100 degrees F. The frog that was still alive was just floating in the current from the filter and had a bad fungal infection that had sprouted up overnight. Removed him to a treatment tank and did what we could but the poor guy didn't make it. This is a horrible product. I would not recommend this to anyone and I wish I hadn't bought the product because I lost 2 very dear pets.

I have purchased 3 of these Tetra Heaters in the past 5 months, and all of them have quit. The warranty only allows you to pay shipping both ways, either to fix yours, or they will send another one. I do not want any more of these Tetra heaters, and am looking for another brand. I wouldn't waist your money.

Buy Submersible Heaters Now

I bought this heater (from WalMart)last week for my 5 gallon tank. When I first put it in the tank the red light came on. After maybe a minute or so the light turned off. I wondered whether or not it was heating the water...

After a couple days I moved the heater to my 10 gallon tank. The light did not come on, even after unplugging and replugging it. It's been in this tank for about three days, and the light hasn't come on. The temperature has actually dropped a few degrees since being in this tank. I will be returning it to the store as soon as possible.

It electrocuted my catfish... Why? Because they don't do quality control in China. Yes, you can feel how angry I am for killing my catfish which I've had for years. I wish I could give a negative star on this review. Never buy Tetra products, you have been warned.

I was researching on a good heater for a 1.5gal fish tank, and I came across the Tetra submersible HT 10. It fits very well into the tank, and the heater maintains a constant temperature at 76F. I am satisfied with this heater. However, you cannot change the temperature setting. It has been 3 months since i bought this heater, and i have no complaints yet. My fish is healthy and well heated with this HT10 from tetra.

biOrb No Algae Service Kit

biOrb No Algae Service KitI live in a "glass house" which means my biOrb gets lots of sunlight and, therefore, lots of algae! I used this in conjunction with cleaning the entire Orb out. I didn't realize it's not for "continuous use" though. I have had the same success with completely cleaning the tank and simply replacing the regular-type cartridge. The Orb is expensive enough to maintain -why add to the cost?

I didn't realize it wasn't a long term filter when I bought it, but decided to keep it in case I have an algae bloom in the tank because cleaning the bio media gravel using standard algae killer will be more damaging than using this temporary filter. It was easier to keep than return it.

Buy biOrb No Algae Service Kit Now

I didn't pay close enough attention to the fact that these aren't supposed to replace your regular filter, but are meant to be used for a short amount of time to help get rid of algae... I'd just assume clean my tank out, so I was dissapointed that I wasted the same amount as a regular filter.

The replacement I needed. I've had the Bio-Orb for 5 years and purchase the kits in multiples. Wonderful.

I think that the regular tank care kits is better to use because there is no charcoal in this kit. I felt I needed to change is in a couple of days so that charcoal was in the filter system.

Eshopps AEO11010 Overflow Boxes Pf-1000 for Aquarium Tanks

Eshopps AEO11010 Overflow Boxes Pf-1000 for Aquarium TanksIve heard that these U-tube type overflows don't flow as well as the cpr weir types, but to be honest 900 gph is 900 gph. This thing works wonderfully, it is well constructed out of thick acrylic and was an easy install. Ive been using it for 2 months straight now and have not had to re prime the u tubes at all. excelent system.

After fishkeeping for almost a decade, 8 of those years with saltwater, I decided to finally go the sump layout instead of canister filters and tons of other equipment in my tanks. Since I did not feel comfortable drilling my tanks, I decided this was the best route. When I got this in the mail I found the packaging decent. No broken items, no missing pieces. I found the instructions to be very lacking, and determined that this product was aimed for those that already knew what they were doing. After figuring out sort of what I was doing, I started to put it together on the tank, however was left with a few extra pieces compared to what the item looks like in the picture. I had an extra Utube, and these two pieces of sponge that did not look like they went anywhere. When it came to start the siphon, it was a pain in the butt. The only way I can think of doing it, is to insert a piece of small hose (like airline tubing) into the top of the U, place on the overflow, and suck the air out. When the air is removed it should start flowing on it's own. Pull out the hose WITHOUT lifting the U-tube or letting air back in, or you will have an air bubble trapped in the top of the tube, or break the siphon and have to start over again. I have tested the device against power and pump failures and this does a great job. If your power goes out, the siphon does stop, and will resume no problem when power is restored and the pump is back on.

The quality of the acrylic could be better.. I cracked the top of one of them when putting on the bulkhead and had very little pressure on it. I was able to fix it but was very disappointed when it happened as it set me back another day trying to get this setup running.

Also, please remember to use pipe dope on the bulkhead thread when assembling or you will have leaks.

Speaking of the bulkhead, since there were no specifications on how to go to the bulkhead (like what fits, what doesn't, etc) to the sump, I took one with me and headed over to home depot. Both me and the associate there were trying to find pieces that fit with no luck, until I was finally able to come up with a concoction of adapters, then used hose. After setting it up, I found out that I restricted the lines too much and had to dial down my return pump until I purchased new bulkheads. If I would have known ahead of time that regular 1'' PVC fit on the inside of that bulkhead I would have saved tons in various plumbing parts and headaches.

So, now it is up and running and working, I am pleased. However the lack of literature with the product really jaded my experience.

Pro's

-----

Does the job

Resumes nicely after pump/power failures

When tweaked it is pretty quiet

Came with extra parts for, well I don't know

Con's

------

Lack of literature, specifications, directions.

Weak acrylic

For what it is and the simplicity of it, price could reflect that a lot better

A lot of tweaking to get it running properly

Not really for beginners.

We've lost power a couple times and once the power comes back on they start right back up! Quality made, very good product, I recommend these overflows to those who don't want to drill their tank!!!

Coralife 6700K T-5 High Output Fluorescent Lamp

Coralife 80413 6700K T-5 High Output Fluorescent Lamp, 39-WattHard to find these bulbs for 30 inch fixtures, but price was right and they did get here in one piece. Like the softer glow this gives the tank vs the 10k light. Use one of this and the 10 k for the effect I like to see.

Product came fast and plugged in and worked.

I purchased a couple of this to replace my blue actinic bulbs for more light for my plants. Plants are flourishing and fish look good.

Freshwater planted aquarium.

I bought two of these bulbs to replace a couple actinic bulbs that came with my HO light fixture. I've only had for a few days, but so far they work great! Way better than actinic lighting for freshwater!

I saw that another person had received broken light bulbs several times In a row. My lights came very well packaged ( wrapped in loads of bubble wrap!!! ) and were NOT broken. So don't let the other guys review deter you. They don't always arrive broken! And if they are it's probably not amazons fault.

All in all great product and for a great price.

I ordered two of these to increase the lighting on my 29 gal tank which I'm trying to plant. The 31 watt fit bulbs the 30" fixture perfectly and were well packed, both of which were my main concerns about ordering online.

They are bright and at 6700k should be the right spectrum. They seem to do the job, even if I can't figure out how to get the plants to keep growing. More research is required on my part, but the lights are great!

Want Coralife 6700K T-5 High Output Fluorescent Lamp Discount?

Lots of light like ones needs for a planted tank. I use a pair but have not measured the PAR level since those meters cost $300+. T5 bulbs are a LOT more efficient then the old fashioned T8 ones since they can focus the light better and send more light into the tank instead of the room or just heat the hood.

Coralife Colormax T-5 Fluorescent Aquarium Lamp

Coralife 05622 Colormax T-5 Fluorescent Aquarium Lamp, 24-InchI had to return this Coralife 05623 Colormax T-5 Fluorescent Aquarium Lamp, because it did not fit. Other than that, I cannot state anything about the quality. It was returned to Amazon without a problem.

I purchased the colormax & the 6700k daylight & they arrived OK.

The bad thing is that this bulb burnt out in 6 months averaging just 4 hours of use a day (African Cichlids, no plants in a 90 gallon). From my experiences I usually get at least 3 to 4 times that much life.

I'm going to continue looking at the LED's since they use

Tetra 16456 Pond Variety Fish Food Sticks, 1.32-PoundAlways pleased with the quality of Tetra brand. Glad you had this in the 2.25 pound bag for the same price the discount pet store charges for 1.38 pound bag! My fish just love this and the Koi sticks. I've been giving it to them for over 5 years!

Tetra Pond's products have never failed us. This is the first time I've used this particular variety of koi food. The fish love it! I'm sold. As a note, I'm in S. Florida so it rarely gets cold enough to not feed the gang. Last winter was the first time I've had to withhold food, but this winter has been mild. I decided to try the Variety Blend and it's been a huge hit.

Tetra 5 in 1 Pond Test Strips, 50 strips

Tetra 5 in 1 Pond Test Strips, 50 stripsWe have been using Tetra test strips for our Koi pond since we established it. These strips make it simple and easy to control the water condition so that we don't lose $700 worth of fish. They are accurate and easy to use and easy to store. Amazon had the best price on them and gives us the best service.

I received these in the mail today [they are 4 months from expiration] and ran two strips right away. Both strips showed the same results, then I tested the same batch of water with my test tube and drops kit and again got the same results, then I ran all the tests again and got the same readings.

This shows the strips are accurate and consistent. Realise these tests are not minutely accurate, only showing a range of results, this however is accurate enough for the pond hobbyist.

TEST KITS AND STRIPS DO NOT WORK IF NOT USED.......TEST EVERY WEEK AND LOG THE RESULTS.

Buy Tetra 5 in 1 Pond Test Strips, 50 strips Now

I bought this to help test my pond water. When it arrived, the strips were 1 month from expiration. I tried to use them anyway and they implied the water was pristine. Clearly they were wrong because even though the water tested perfect and I changed the water regularly, I had a major fish die off within a month. I don't think these are very accurate and have stopped using them.

Penn-plax Bubbler Bottom Filter

Penn-plax Bubbler Bottom FilterBasically, i started this out for guppies. they didn't survive and now i have quite a few more. Swordtails being my favorite here. the filter is simple, but is a hassle for the activated filter carbon. the small particles get throught the bottom and then, the air is pushed through, potientially pushing out the small particles into the tank. i thought it was dangerous for the fish so i got a sifter for the smaller particles. it takes me an hour and a half all together to get this done. the airtube is pretty tight on, but it gets slimy. the trapping isn't amazing, but decent so make sure you have a cleaning fish for the leftovers.

I have been keeping fish for 30+ years and have air driven filters from Penplax and Lee. Power filters and canisters have their place and I use them. But there is still room for the old school air driven filter.

Air driven filters are often under estimated. I gave them 4 stars because they work well. I did not give them 5 stars because they take a bit of time to clean. These $3 filters will filter as well as a power filter if you have similar media in both. You always have to correctly size the filter to the tank.

How well they work and what they do depends on what you pack them with. I would always use filter floss as the top media. Anything that gets loose, like bits of charcoal, would be trapped by the floss.

It is a good idea to use 2 filters and alternate cleaning/changing them. This ensures that the bio filtration is maintained.

Agreed that charcoal is not needed for everyday use.

Our pond is 12'x6' and 2-1/2'deep at one end, and has 1,300 gals of water. Performance of the pump creates a current throughout the pond and our nine fish responded playfully. It's been about 3 weeks since installing the pump and have had no problems in its performance. Ferrera Farms Bully Stick Tips, 1-Pound Bag

Ferrera Farms Bully Stick Tips, 1-Pound BagI have gotten Ferrera Farms bully sticks in the past (6 inch size) and was very pleased with the quality, as was my dog. However, these tips are very expensive. I've since realized that Best Bully sticks are only $8.24 a lb, vs. $19+ and are a much higher quality. This bag was full of shriveled, dark tips (a few 4" skinny sticks) with dust and tiny pieces that my dog is turning her nose up at. I won't purchase them again.

These bully sticks are expensive enough without the manufacturer cheating on the weight of the bag. These sticks cost more per ounce than what we think we're paying....not to mention the pieces are very tiny and thin!!!!!

My dog loves bully sticks, and these "tips" really hit the spot for a quick bully treat. Lasts much longer than the typical one-crunch-swallow treats, so they occupy her time a little longer (if we want a distraction.)

I'd say they're the cutoffs from regular bully stick production, some big, some small but same great flavor, judging by her enthusiasm for 'em. Thumbs Up!

Marineland Perfecto Glass Canopy Hinge Large 1 in. x 36 in. (3/16 in. thick)- Black

Marineland Perfecto Glass Canopy Hinge Large 1 in. x 36 in.- BlackI have used the competitor's hinge material for years with very few problems. This hinge is obviously made of a different material. After only a few weeks, the heat from my power compact light distorted the plastic so badly it would no longer stay on the glass. I have never had that problem with my previous hinges and have changed nothing with my setup.

What can I say it works as it should. Couldn't find this item at any of the local pet stores. It's fairly difficult getting the glass panels fitted into the hinge, but that's to be expected. If they slid in too easily, they would also slide out too easily. At worst, you can try a little soap along the edge of the glass so it slides in easier, just be sure to rinse the soap off thoroughly. And please, for you own safety, go to a glass shop and order TEMPERED glass of the correct thickness to fit the hinge.
