Tetra Fauna Viquarium

The description sounds great. We got it set up and running without much effort. However, there are some features we really don't like about it. One the filtration is so-so. Water can run UNDER that filter unit instead of through the filter cartridges. The water flow through the filter cartridges is VERY SLOW. It took much longer than I think it should have to get the water clear after adding our cleaned gravel.

What I consider a serious design flaw is my biggest gripe. We have fire belly toads in our setup. They can crawl through the space where the river bed exits the waterfall tower. And, since our tower has a manufacturing defect, there's a hole in the inside wall of the unit. One of our toads, of course, worked his way in to this hole (which is underwater, by the way) and couldn't get back out. We had to dismantle the ENTIRE thing to empty the water out of the base, pull it up, and retrieve the toad. What this meant was that we had to remove the other toads, scoop out all the waterbed gravel AND the course gravel from the land side which meant destroying our carefully built live-moss landscape. Then, as a two person-and-many-swear-word-job, everything had to be carefully put back into place (difficult because you can't let any gravel get under either piece or they don't work right), try and rebuild our mossy ground cover and re-plant our live plants, and then add back the toads plus more water.

Our fix to prevent this happening again was to place 4 cottonballs at the corners inside the tower unit to prevent toads from working their way into the tower again. So far so good, but I can't imagine what you'd do if you had a small amphibian!

Finally, even though the filtration base makes a really tight fit against the sides of the terrarium, all sorts of debris gets sucked up against the rubber seals I assume this means some water is also flowing beside the filter box instead of through it. Regardless, it's unsightly because there's this vertical line of debris right in the middle of the front of the terrarium glass that I can't reach to clean.

Also, there's no way to easily clean the gravel bed in the land area. I am interested to see if this proves to be a problem or not. The water portion is easy to clean you just siphon it like you would in an aquarium.

I wanter to see my daugter's pet turtle on land for once and thought this waterfall/stream setup might entice him to come out of the pool. Setup was easy and unit has worked flawlessly for several months now.

I put his basking light right over one of the flat "rocks" that covers a filter. The turtle now comes out and basks laying on his rock something I had never seen him doing. Unexpectedly he also "plays" in the stream I think he is searching for food but its quite amusing to see him moving shells around with his head. If threatened by a noise or movement he uses the stream as a water slide to jet himself back down into his pool.

The water quality has been good I change out some every week but it has stayed clear and clean looking. The waterfall and stream have increased evaporation of water so I am adding more water then I used to.

Overall this new setup for our tutle has worked out very well. If a turtle can be said to look happy, then our turtle is happy. His behaviors seem much more natural and he acts more curious now.

I bought this as an upgrade for the one that was in my tank. It is certainly an amazing upgrade!!! However, there absolutely no possible way that this is intended for use by frogs! I had to put a lot of time and money "frog proofing" this product before I even dare to put it in the tank. With a lot of hot glue and nylon screen, I finally was able to put it in the tank. It works wonders! I definitely suggest this product to people with pets over about 4 inches in diameter, or a turtle (I don't think the hard shell could squeeze through the 1.5 inch gaps)

It was easy to set up and it looks great! However, after having it for 2 months algae started growing on the waterfall portion. I was used to cleaning out the water every 2 weeks, so I was surprised that so much algae was growing. I went ahead and emptied everything out and completely cleaned it out instead of just using the gravel vacuum. Everything looked fine again, but then the algae came back just after a few days. I'm not sure it it's the filtration that is not working like it's supposed to, but for the price I was expecting it to work like a charm, and it didn't. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have time to empty it out for a thorough cleaning every week.

Our next door neighbor recently moved out and somehow left his turtle behind. We found him (a Red Eared Slider)walking around in our back yard in late November.

Our 12 year old son was so excited and curious about this turtle that we had to adopt him. We named him "Toodie" and I must admit I fell in love with him too. Having had turtles and fish and all kinds of pets in the past but none now, I wanted to give him a good home and also teach my son how to properly care for and the importance of the "how to and whys" of making the proper habitat for reptiles. So, we started out with just a five gallon tank, filter, hood kit to see how "Toodie" would do and how our son would like caring for him. "Toodie" liked the 5 gallon aquarium but soon it was obvious that the tank was too small. So after a couple of hours of research on-line, we moved up to a 20 gallon "turtle-quarium" kit that included the proper lighting, basking area, filter, etc.

Then about a week later I asked a sales specialist at our local Petco store what I could do in order to make the turtle's tank as realistic as possible, making it part aqua and part land environment and he suggested the Tetra-Fauna Viquarium.

So I bought the Tetra-Fauna Viquarium as a family gift for Christmas. It is very well made and well designed. Fortunately, it is NOT made out of cheap plastic...it is made of a heavy clay type material which adds great realism to the unit. The way the clay is molded looks totally realistic, just as you may see a small river waterfall with rocks in a real jungle/tropical area. It fit perfectly in the corner of our 20 gallon tank and because the instructions are simple and well written, I had it set up and running within about 20 minutes. I have had this set up and running in our tank now for about 10 days and the built-in, hidden filtration system is quiet, effective and runs extremely well. The waterfall flow and realism is totally awesome and adds tremendous aesthetic realism, beauty and quality to the turtle's environmental safety and naturalism. Most importantly, "Toodie" just loves it! He climbs up on the top of the waterfall and slides down in to the water below and sometimes basks on top of either one of the two "towers" formed by the clay molding.

I think it was originally priced at over $100.00 but it is a great deal at a lower price here on Amazon.com. For the money, this is a totally worthwhile investment in your turtle's habitat and we have had numerous compliments on the tank by friends and family over the holidays!

The Viquarium unit also give you some design flexibility to your tank; it comes with a nice artificial plant fixtures that looks totally real and also a waterfall "extension" to lengthen the waterfall slide if you wish. The unit is also easy to clean and easy to change the filters. The unit uses two filters that are inexpensive to buy and replace through Amazon.com or your local pet store.

If you really want to care properly for your turtles or other reptiles/amphibians and have a delightfully beautiful addition to your home, get this totally unique and functional asset for your aquarium/terrarium habitat and you will not be disappointed.

These flags are so small my dog wasn't even noticing them, defeating the whole idea of containment since she wasn't aware of the barrier. Now, in defense of the manufacturer, it's winter in Ohio and the ground is white with snow, making the puny white flags almost invisible. So I bought some plastic safety-orange 1" wide tape, cut 6 inch lengths and stapled them to the flags. That worked.

These flags are brittle plastic. They snap easily. I had to 'predrill' for every one with a screwdriver. The metal ones are much easier to install. On the other hand, the plastic ones are easier on the lawn mower. The picture appears to be the metal variety but that is not what i received.

When I initially installed the fence it came with wire stems on the flags (as shown in the picture when ordering) and the flags were larger. This last set I purchased were plastic and very small. I agree with another reviewer, the plastic is too hard to stick in the ground. I returned them immediately.

Reptile Cafe Log Hide-Away Tank Décor

I received this product for a baby fat tailed gecko and it seemed fairly small so I measured it and the actual inside of the log is less than 1" high and wide and maybe 4" long. The height was measured to the top of the piece that sticks up on top and the overall length is about an inch shorter than it states. Do not purchase if you have an animal larger than an anole, small snake or crabs.

I purchased this very cute item because the product information said it was okay for an aquarium. The paint peeled within 2 weeks. It should only be used in reptile cages. It was smaller than advertised, 5.5x2.2x2.5, and expensive for what it actually is.

This really is a well made, lovely looking hideaway that the picture on Amazon does no justice to, whatsoever. It's durable and will make any terrarium more handsome for its use, but as other reviewers have mentioned, is unusually small, and is probably more useful as decor than a sleeping area. To put the size of this log in perspective, I'm using it for a few of my snails (helix lucorum) and the adults cannot comfortably get their shells underneath it. It does have discreet ventilation holes, which I appreciate. Also, the babies and smaller snails love this, but for the most part, I'm keeping it only because it looks so nice.

I recently started up a freshwater tank and am learning the ropes as I go. I was doing some research on what to expect and what supplies I needed. I came across this product in a search and after reading other product reviews I decided to splurge and get this test kit. I think out of all the ones I reveiwed this is the only one that had all the 4 major tests in one case with ease of use that even a child can do (with supervision).

I do have an added tip for all you PetSmart/PetCo shopppers. Print out this page and take it in and they will price match. The PetSmart (instore) price is $29.99 and after showing them the ad I saved over $13, and I didn't even have to pay for shipping! :) GREAT DEAL!!!

This is a good all-purpose test kit for someone beginning freshwater fish-keeping. It's also the most economical way I've found to purchase a wide variety of tests (it contains test solutions for pH, ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates) in large volume. The directions are clear and concise and the color coded cards make readings easy.

Four of five tests are fairly straightforward. The ammonia test, however, requires mixing the 5ml of tank water with 10 drops of one solution, shaking a second solution bottle for 30 seconds, adding 10 drops from it, then shaking the test tube for one minute, and then waiting 5 minutes to test color against a chart. Seems a bit much, no? That being said, this process isn't any more difficult than any other system I've seen, and it seems to be accurate. The color chart is waterproof, though the instruction manual isn't, and due to the moist nature of its application, make sure to memorize instructions quickly. API is by far the most highly recommended test kit on every freshwater tank forum I've read, and I found it here a good bit cheaper than at my local (chain) pet store. Be aware that the test tubes are glass and will occasionally shatter when trying to juggle all 4 at once, but I've only once needed to test for everything the first day the kit came in. Nitrates are probably the only regular (weekly) test you'll have to do outside of changes to the tank, such as adding fish or changing substrate or filter media.

FYI each bottle has a printed "Lot Number" on the back, the last four digits of which are the month and year of manufacture. Anything over three years or so is getting old, and you'll probably want an exchange unless you test with great frequency. These chems definitely have a finite shelf life.

Oh, and anyone who has live plants in a tank will want phosphates and KH test kits as well.

There are a few excellent points about this test kit:

1) buying here saves you about 50% from the retail pet store

2) you get 800+ tests for ~ $17 vs. 25 tests w/ strips

3) results are far more accurate with liquid test kits like this one when compared to dipsticks

Note that of the 5 tests you can do with this, three of them require 5 minute waits before you read the colors, so it's not as fast as a dipstick. But honestly, this is such an economic choice, and it's accuracy far exceeds quick strips that it's ridiculous to buy them. Get this kit!

I ordered the test kit on jan 21st and it took tell feb 1st to get which seemed long but maybe i am just spoiled with prime. I did not take any stars off for the shipping time.

My main issue is the description is false. It clearly says:

Well where is the GH & KH kit? It seems that the description is wrong. It says the kits are included but they are not. The ONLY reason i bought this was because it had the GH and KH kit included and i found it silly to spend the money on just a GH and KH kit when i could just get the other items for a only a little bit more.

Needless to say i am frustrated. I waited 12 days to get the wrong thing.I guess i should have read the text on the picture and not the actual product description.

The seller was Martha's Pet Place. I got this for my 6.5 pound Chihuahua. He previously had a small collar with a small black plastic buckle, which he outgrew. My dog tugs a lot when we go for walks (mostly at the start of the walk, since he is so excited). I did not want to buy a collar with a plastic buckle, because I know that water and sun will eventually weaken the plastic (and I don't want it to break accidentally). So, I went looking for a collar with a metal buckle, and they are not easy to find!

This collar is wonderful. It looks good, and fits great. The nylon part of the collar is 5/8" wide, about 2 mm thick, and rugged. The metal buckle is about 3/4" wide and 1.5" long (the length is measured from the tip of one end to the tip of the other end; it really doesn't look that big, because the nylon collar loops through each end; the visible part of the buckle is about 7/8"). The buckle catch mechanism works smoothly.

For my dog, I have the collar adjusted/tightened about 2/3's of the way (when I remove it from my dog and measure it as adjusted for my dog, it is 10.5 inches long); so, if I wanted to make it smaller, I still have 1/3 of the collar left (and if I wanted to make it larger, there is 2/3's left); so, there is plenty of room to adjust it in the future (making it smaller or larger). I attached his tags to the nylon part of the collar using a small key ring (I didn't want to attach it to the D-ring----left that for the leash only). The D-ring to attach the leash is metal, and the buckle used to adjust the collar is metal. There is one plastic part on the collar (a piece that helps take-up the slack; if it were to break, it would not matter). Very well done.

PS: I don't understand the collar dimensions given in the "product features" and "product details" of this Amazon listing. Since the collar is adjustable, it could be made to be much longer than 11 inches. The width of 1.5 inches just does not make sense to me.

I have a 40 gallon tank and when the electricity went out at my house one day, the pump continued to work on the batteries but it was still to weak that my fishes went up to the top to get air. The motor inside is too weak to generate any strong air flow for the tank. It might work better for a smaller tank (up to 20 gallons but nothing more.) Look elsewhere for a better back up air pump.

No review of the product, as I received the wrong one. Be aware that you too may receive the incorrect one too. I got an air pump that doesn't have battery back-up, which defeated the whole point of my purchase. The troublesome thing is that there is a sticker barcode over the original barcode that has the product number for the battery back-up air pump and says, "Air pump w/ battery back up" I'm hesitant to order this again for fear of getting the wrong one again. Also, this item cannot be processed through the returns center and you must either call or chat with customer service to get a return started. One star for the experience.

Its a strong pump, so i had to use low power. When battery mode actives strengh lowers, but thats normal for batter operation. Its also small and not load (so far). 4 D cell batteries seems like a lot, but i considered it also last a very long time. Energy dont go that often where i am at, but i dont want to risk loosing my fish that where not easy to find. Internally its well build and not heavy (without batteries). Would be nice if it had wholes to mount on my wall, but it does not have them. Over all good priced unit for my 30gl tank.

Update June 20, 2012: Been 1 year and 2 months. Pump is on 24/7 and works great, pumps air same as when i got it. Only thins is that its not as quiet as before. Sometime batteries do not sit in place and enery goes and contacts for batteries are not good. Solution is to add something else on top of the batteries so lid is tight keeps batteries in place. I am using for 18 inch depth on 30 gallon and have pump on lowest setting since it puts out alot of air (still). Im considering getting another one. This is considered one of my best purchases, now i can go away for the weekend with little worries.

1 star because pump petered out after one month. Now sitting in the garage in a bucket collecting dust. Would make a nice paper weight but would probably tear paper! Useless item that I wasted a nice chunk of change on when i could have gotten something less and would have lasted. Junk!

This is a great product. Kept my fish alive from sandy and 2 other power outages.

The only complain on my part is that it should have a built in audio alarm. One of my big koi died because the plug of the ac is off seated from the surge protector. It kept my fish alive more than 24 hours though with my D size batteries. I just didn't know about it until too late. Even though it failed me once, I am still using it since somehow, it keeps me sane and free from dead fishes.

I put this in my fishtank a few days ago thinking it would make a nice little shrimp cave. The shrimp seem to like it okay but my betta loves it! He likes to swim through the eye holes and then just plop down in the center and stick his head out of the mouth. It's like a little doghouse for him :)

It's a nice quality tank ornament. The size indicated in the title is accurate. It's heavy enough to stay put without burying it in gravel. Also, although there are a lot of "teeth" on it the manufacturer has done a good job of ensuring they are all rounded and dull (so as not to snag any fins). And I love the way it looks in the tank! It also has lots of little dents in the top which I have read is good for trapping beneficial bacteria (and catching lots of little leftover food particles for the shrimp to eat). Not sure if it will get covered in algae though, I'll have to wait and see. Even if it does, I think that might just add to the look of it.

Overall I'm very happy with this purchase. It looks cool and makes my tank inhabitants happy. Can't ask for much more than that.

When I first seen this item, I was not sure on buying it. I then just went around and bought it. After a few days after the purchase I thought this is so ugly, and I didn't want it anymore. I didn't even know which kind of animal it was. But when it got here the skull is actually kind of cute! It provides a nice area where your fish, shrimp or crayfish can hide. It actually fits in perfectly. I love this item now, and I would never return it.

This is a product that is as described and the LED light top is really pretty and cool. You can change it from just red, blue, green, or white, to combinations of those colors, to flashing, to softly fading, etc. It's fun to play with and looks great if you get a glow in the dark plant for it.

However, bowls this small are very unhealthy for Betta fish and you HAVE to change the water at least once a week or it will die. Mine lasted about... two months, maybe, then suddenly got sick and died even though I'd been changing his water a lot. The water gets smelly and nasty fast even with just one betta. After my fish died I sold this product to someone at my school for a lot less than original price, and I don't plan on getting this product again. If you don't mind if your fish dies after awhile of changing the water a lot go ahead and get it, but I'm going to spend a little more money on a 5 gallon with a filter instead of this for sure.

Rain Fresh Background Double Sided Size: 19 x 50

This is sold as a 19x50 item, and it is not. The 50 was actually 12. It is sold by the foot, but for the price being described as 50. I was irritated since I looked for about an hour and a half for the perfect background to match my hermit crab's tank. On the plus side, after I wrote my annoyed message in, the seller did refund me right away. They said it was Amazon's mistake, and they would have it fixed. It has been a couple of weeks, and it is still showing 19x50. I do not know if that is on them or Amazon, so just be aware if you buy this, it is by the foot. All the same, I found another background at the pet store. It was big enough for my 30 gallon tank, and it was much higher quality. It wound up costing me less for the entire thing than this did per foot. The foot of this I received was of average quality as far as weight and durability. The print quality itself was nice, but I am still happier with my pet store purchase. I gave the scrap of this to my daughter to cut a circle out of for her goldfish bowl.

Not much to say about this. It arrived fast and damage free. Looks great in my vivs. 50' provided me with enought to mess up a few attempts to get it perfect and have plenty left over for future projects

This is a nice terrarium background. I prefer the static kind that stick to glass with no adhesive, however this is a good image and is large enough for our gallon tank.

Bulbs themselves from Zilla are a little fragile and don't seem to last long in the zilla fixture. If did not have existing fixture would consider a different one where bulbs might be so fragile (larger diameter).

Cant go wrong with these bulbs. They were cheap, they came fast and they fit in my Zilla Light fixture nicely. They give off 50 microwatts each!

Lee's Flex Aquarium Tubing, Clear, 1/2-Inch by 100-Foot

The other reviewers lack a certain common sense. The price is for a box which contains 100' of the tubing, not per foot. Seriously, use your brain. No one is going to charge over $5,000 for 100' of tubing. I am embarrassed for the other reviewers that they actually thought that.

This company's price for this product as advertised is clearly outrageous: $50.75 per foot for 1 foot of 1/2" clear flexible plastic tubing (also adds a $6.05 shipping charge for a product that weighs 1.6 ounces). I previously ordered the product at a price of $1.79 per foot. Get your act together or pull this product off the Amazaon web site.

Como Aquarium Clear Suction Cup Airline Tube Holders Clips Clamps 10 Pcs

Very disappointed that these suction cups somehow managed to leave rings on both the inside and outside of my acrylic fish tank! I tried everything to get it to come off, escalating from fingernail scratching to water to windex to Goo Gone (externally only, of course.) I tried a Magic Eraser, then a green kitchen scrubber which would up scratching up my tank even worse!

I finally had to use some plastic polish to buff out the scratches my tank sustained trying to remove whatever residue/melting/whatever these suction cups did to my tank. It looks better, but from an angle you can still tell that my brand new acrylic tank is all scuffed up. There is nothing I can do about the ring left inside my tank, because I will not risk the safety of my betta fish on even such an annoying blemish on his otherwise awesome tank.

Adding insult to injury, these do not stick on very well dry. It is hard to tell from the picture, but the airline tube holders are not clear, but white, which makes them kind of an eyesore (which I was trying to avoid by getting clear suction cups.)

Very disappointed, cannot recommend anyone with an acrylic or plastic tank use these for anything.

These little suction cups do exactly what you want them to do. Very handy for holding air lines for stones and other accessories. I guess they could be smaller as they need about 3/4" of width but then they might not hold as well. They're also pretty good for holding power lines and such on the exterior of the tank although not quite as solidly.

It does what it is supposed to do. Sometimes the little piece that holds the tubing come off but more than that it is ok.

not sure what type of rubber/plastic it is but it will degrade and harden and it will loose its suction
