Great price for the big bottle. Great product. My corals and my fish love it. I would definitely recommend this product to other people.

Product is okay but it's not particularly dense in plankton. I'm not expecting a thick slurry of plankton but even so, the amount of plankton you get is pretty low compared to water amount.

TrueLumen 24-Inch TrueLumen Pro LED Strip Light, 12, 000K Diamond White with Canopy Brackets

TrueLumen 24-Inch TrueLumen Pro LED Strip Light, 12, 000K Diamond White with Canopy BracketsI made one mistake, I looked directly at the light when I first turned it on to test it.

When I put the light over my tank the light penetrated all the way to the bottom, and the color was great. My tank is 26" deep and I've had trouble getting lights that can penetrate that deep. This light does it covers the whole front of the tank.

My light comes with a connector to add 2nd light as soon as I can. I was told that the manufacture was changing the fixture so you will be required to buy a the splitter as a seperate purchase.

I bought 2 24" strips, and I should not have. These do what they say they do. They are BRIGHT! I really didn't need this much light over a 50 gallon planted tank. Ordering the 8,000K strip next.

I replaced two 65w bulbs with these lights. I got the diamond white and fusion strips. They work really well together. Provides enough light for my 52 gallon corner tank. If you are looking to have coral, you need to keep them up high (few inches away from the water level) because just 2 will not produce enough light to reach the bottom. 4 of these will definitely do it.

Fluval Telescopic Shrimp Net

Fluval Telescopic Shrimp NetThe design of net is superb, small but very useful; however, it has a very lose connection between the rod and net. Mine broke apart after 3 days of use.

Took it out of the package and instantly the net fell free of the telescoping rod! Didnt even get a chance to use it. Glued it back in but it seems to work ok now (not sure if the glue will impact the fish yet).

Buy Fluval Telescopic Shrimp Net Now

I primarily purchased this for my neocaridina and cardina shrimp tank. I've also used it for small fish. I would have given this five stars but the materials and netting could've been a little more study. For example, a "3D" netting would have been nice that if they used a more rigid net material, the net would stay open instead off collapse when you pull the shrimp out of the water. These shrimp nets exists, but they're more expensive. So for this Fluval net being the best buy I have no regrets. Highly recommended for you shrimp keepers.

Tetra ReptoFilter In-tank Filter 10i, for Terrariums up to 20 Gallons

Tetra ReptoFilter In-tank Filter 10i, for Terrariums up to 20 GallonsPROS:

Filter is Quiet.

Inexpensive.

Pre-Filters are available.

You can use reusable filter bags, a cheaper alternative.

Supplies are available at any given pet store.

CONS:

Filter will clog up, especially if you feed your turtle in the tank.

Expect to clean tank and replace filters about once a week.

Pre-Filter come in packs of three for about $8/ea can add up.

Cleaning out reusable filter bags, expect to be handling a significant amount of turtle goo.

I had my red ear slider since it was hatchling, about a year. I was broke and didn't much about turtle maintenance but judging by the name, ReptoFilter, and the fact that I found it in the Aquatic Turtle section, I bought it. Something is better than nothing. Turtles are deceptively messy. In the beginning, I has happy with the filter because it seemed to do the job right. As a plus, the filter is super quiet and the only time it made a noise is about the time it needs to be changed anyway. Although pre-filters are available, I found it cost-effective to clean out and refill reusable filter bags. I even fed my turtle in a separate tub to reduce the debris. In the beginning, everything was great.

As the turtle grew, so did the mess. And I found the filter having a hard time keeping up with my turtle. I had to unclog it a few times. Although, We'd make it a point every week to clean it, it took a significant amount of our time and energy to routinely to that. Ultimately, despite my efforts to try to maintain the filter as best as I could, the filter died on me. So, I got my funds together and got a three stage canister filter. I'm thankful for buying this filter, it got me by. Although canister filters come off pricey, there are better in the long run because you'll only be cleaning it out months at time.

I purchased this for a pair of painted turtles to be housed in a 10 gallon tank and I am overly pleased. I find it to be a lot more powerful than anticipated, and it's extremely quiet. We have the tank in the same room where we sleep and it doesn't bother me one bit. I am a very sensitive sleeper also. The slightest of disturbances will awake me from the deepest of sleep. Regardless of where you keep the water level, it's as tranquil as ever.

This filter is so powerful that it usually sucks 1 inch chunks of cucumber right to it's grate. It does not harm any of our fish and it doesn't bother the turtles either. The refills are very affordable, and if you perform water changes regularly, this filter will do an exceptional job. I have no issues with the heavy duty suction cups, other than sometimes they suck to hard to the glass. I will usually have to give the cups a pinch to break the suction from the aquarium wall. Be careful, because if you pull the unit too hard the suction cups will pop right out of the holes in the back. They are easily placed right back into place, though.

I have owned fish tanks for over ten years and I find the Tetra Repto Filter (10 gallon) to be one of the most impressive I have seen. This unit is submersible, so you will need to get used to the natural process of algae forming on the cord, as well as the casing of the unit. The filter blends into the background and visitors hardly ever comment on the appearance. Like any other filter, you want to rinse out the (black) bio filter each time you do a (carbon) filter change. As long as you're not planning to use this for a much larger tank, I think you will be impressed too.

Buy Tetra ReptoFilter In-tank Filter 10i, for Terrariums up to 20 Gallons Now

I have a female red eared slider and have been looking for a relatively inexpensive filter to occupy her 10 gallon tank. This filter is the perfect size. The filter suctions onto the side of the tank for extra support and takes up very little room. It's very quiet and extremely efficient. Over all I am very pleased with my purchase and so is my turtle. She loves to hang out under the waterfall.

This is a perfect fit for Lee's Herp Habitat (Large Size: 23 1/4" x 17 1/2" x 11 3/8"). It will fit in the back right or left hand corner with no space between the wall and island for your critters to accidently get stuck in. Suction cups in the back hold it snuggly in place. Filter itself is very quiet but the output will make some noise (it's meant for shallow water and you're going to get splashing). You can minimize this by stacking rocks up front to create a small water fall or 'planting' a small fake aquarium plant (bushy/leafy) beneath the output. Both options will also camaflouge the already non-obtrusive filter. I chose to do the later and it worked perfectly. Hardly a sound and our Fire Belly Toads love hanging out in the plant to sit under the flowing water.

Hagen Nutrafin CO2 Natural Plant System with CO2 Activator and Stabilizer

Hagen Nutrafin CO2 Natural Plant System with CO2 Activator and StabilizerIf you plan on having plants in your aquarium then injecting CO2 into your tank is highly recommended. Having a yeast-based CO2 system for me is the easiest, cheapest and safest way to go (as opposed to a canister-based system). When using a yeast-based system, like this Hagen one, it's impossible to overdose CO2 in your tank which is nice.

Remember, having 2-4 watts of "quality" fluorescent lighting per gallon (compact fluorescent fixtures seems to me to be the best choice) in your aquarium is even more important than adding CO2.

This off the shelf system should be sufficient for beginning aquarists who are starting out with plants (fish don't need extra CO2). While not as efficient or cheap as a DIY one, it does a decent job of putting a fair amount of CO2 in the tank for about 2 week periods at a time. People who also don't want to mix their own yeast mixture will find the packets more convenient (however less effective).

The Hagen diffuser (that dissolves the CO2 bubbles into the water) does a decent job. However, there is waste, meaning, CO2 bubbles escape to the surface before being dissolved. But you still will get a raise in the tank's CO2 level.

So, if you are new to CO2 systems and want something that is minimal investment ($35) and don't want to make your own system, then this is a no brainer system. I think you should get it and help your plants to thrive.

But if you want a cheaper, much more effective system, then do this: For 10-25 gallon tank, use one 2 liter soda bottle. For 25-50, use 2. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of bakers yeast in warm water and then let it sit for 5-10 min. Then dissolve 2 cups of sugar into filtered water and pour into soda bottle. Add the yeast. Drill a hole in the soda bottle cap and either glue an air line to run through it or buy a metal airline connector (like from Lowes or Home Depot) and glue it (using Goop) into the cap. After you have the air line running out from the soda bottle (if you have two then connect them using a T brass connector), run it into your aquarium and dissolve the CO2 using a diffuser (like this Hagen one, howbeit not efficient), an air stone (also not efficient) or into a small pop bottle that a Rio Power Head is forcing water into to completely dissolve the CO2 bubbles. You can search around and find photos on how this is done.

After all of my trial and errors, the above method using soda bottles with a metal airline connector in the cap (glued in with goop) and a Rio Power head is the best, cheapest and most effective system for pumping CO2 into your tank.

If you are purchasing this Hagen system, just remember that for every 20 gallons of water you have in your aquarium, you need to set up another Hagen canister. So for a 40 gallon tank, buy 2 of these. But remember, you will get a nice rise in CO2 levels but not near the level you would using a forced water reactor using a Power head. There are two parts to a CO2 system: the amount and quality of CO2 bubbles being produced and then also the amount those CO2 bubbles are being diffused into the aquarium water. The best is having the bubbles completely disappear into the water. Then you know there is no waste to your CO2 production.

To find out how much CO2 is effectively being dissolved into your tank, search online for the CO2 measurement calculator. This is measured by the ratio of KH and PH in your tank (as long as you haven't used PH buffers).

Hope this helps you in making a valued purchase.

This system is simple to use and affordable compared to most CO2 systems, but if you're willing to put in a little effort and research you could build your own CO2 fermentation system that works just as well (if not better) for a fraction of the cost. Still, not everyone is willing to build their own, and this system is a decent compromise. It's also pretty safe, since the CO2 injection is slow and gradual and won't cause fast pH drops. Make sure you have a decent buffering capacity just in case.

My only criticism is the "activator" and "stabilizer" packets which Hagen sells for this product they are too expensive for what they are (basically yeast and baking powder) and a home-made mixture seems to work better for me anyway. With Hagen's mix, I couldn't get more than about 9 ppm CO2 in my 10 gallon tank (about 3 4 bubbles per minute) but a simple mixture of baker's yeast, sugar, and water gets me twice that and lasts just as long (2-3 weeks). Most people aim for 15 25 ppm or so (but no higher).

In any case, if you have adequate light (2.5 watts per gallon or more), your plants will benefit from CO2 injection and Hagen's system does what it advertises.

One tip: buy a simple air valve for the tubing so you don't get a siphoning mess when you're re-filling the CO2 cansiter.

Buy Hagen Nutrafin CO2 Natural Plant System with CO2 Activator and Stabilizer Now

This product works well, producing CO2 relatively easily and cheaply compared to having a pressurized CO2 canister and regulator (etc.) high-tech set-up. Be sure to educate yourself about CO2 in fish tanks. It's good for plants, but too much could be bad for fish. For example, I operate an airstone when lights are out at night only. This diffuses the CO2, which is not needed by plants in the dark, and plants are not producing oxygen in the dark. (Put air pump and airstone on a timer.) You need to learn the basics of CO2 injection, even for this simple system. If you do, you will have no problems, only great plants.

I have only small fish (under 3 inches) in my 55 gal planted tank. Not one fish has ever suffered as a result of CO-2 fertilization, but the plants grow much, much better!

I see no reason why a DIY yeast+baking powder solution would not work -will be going to this. For the price, you get all you need to get started, to make your plants look great!

Update: In the years since I wrote this, I have lost a couple small fish (which are typical of planted tanks) getting trapped between the diffuser and the glass. Over time, the rubber suction cups fail. That solved the problem for me fish can no longer get trapped in that small space. I now use plants of other times in tank to secure the diffuser into proper position. Still like the product, been using it for years. CO-2 is a big help with the plants, which help control nitrates, add beauty, make fish happier.

Update 2 (2012): I would still recommend this product for anyone starting out with CO2 to stimulate a planted aquarium it works! I still use the container that comes with this kit to generate CO2 with sugar, yeast, baking powder, and water. Don't bother with Hagen's expensive powders they are just yeast in one, and baking powder (not baking soda) in the other. Get it at the grocery store. One container of each will last for years, cheap! The CO2 generator in this kit seals well better I imagine than a DIY soda bottle with silicon would. But I no longer use "the ladder" CO2 diffuser that came with this kit. It did work well for years, other than a few fish trapped behind (usually during a water change hiding). Now, I am experimenting with a glass and ceramic disc diffuser, which works well, and Fluval (Hagen) ceramic disc in round plastic diffuser which is working well as also. Just plug into the airtube, wait 12-24 hours (for pressure to build) and they work great! Be sure to learn the basic of CO-2 injection in aquaria. Co-2 should lower the pH gradually, so you need to be sure your water has adequate buffering agents as well as watching the pH to ensure it doesn't get too low. A cheap easy way to increase buffering capacity and pH is Baking Soda (Sodium BiCarbonate). When adding it, do so slowly and gradually (not too much in one day) to avoid sickening the fish. I use Mardel 5-in-1 test strips, but have some way to test Nitrite, Nitrate, Buffering Capacity, and pH of the tank water.

Read Best Reviews of Hagen Nutrafin CO2 Natural Plant System with CO2 Activator and Stabilizer Here

I have had the Nutrafin system for a few months now. I used the included Activator/Stabilizer packets for the first 3 months,

then switched to molasses based sugar and yeast.

Some observations:

The ladder style CO2 diffuser really works well. Evidence of

this is the size of the CO2 bubble that is introduced into

the diffuser at the bottom compared to the size of the bubble

that comes out at the top. The bubble becomes an order of

magnitude smaller as it traverses the diffuserwhich is another

way of saying that CO2 is getting dissolved in the water. When

it is first introduced to a new aquarium, this observation alone could verify that it is working.

For anyone expecting quick results, it took about 15 days before

my plants showed "pearling" and about another week (around 21-22

days) before I saw the promised lush green plant growth. (Note

that I have 2.5 watts per gallon of light for 10 hours a day and

use Seachem Flourish once a week.)

There is no easy way to turn off CO2 diffusion with the system.

Once the lights turn off and unless the water is sufficiently buffered, pH can be dramatically and dangerously reduced. Start

with buffered, neutral water and after 3 weeks it may have turned

slightly acidicwhich is an ideal environment for many aquatic

plants.

Want Hagen Nutrafin CO2 Natural Plant System with CO2 Activator and Stabilizer Discount?

I have used this system for two years. It works pretty well. Hagen's yeast and 'stabilizer' last about a month in the winter, 2-3 weeks in summer, when the yeast seems to burn off quicker. I did once lose a fish that got trapped in the diffuser, but that fish had been looking unhealthy (inactive, not feeding) anyway. You can use bread yeast and baking soda instead of Hagen's expensive yeast, but it doesn't last as long.

The important thing is that CO2 is released into the tank and the plants look healthy. I don't bother to test my PH in my 20 gallon tank, so I don't know the effect on acidity..

Perfecto Full Recessed Hoods 30in Oak

Perfecto Full Recessed Hoods 30in OakI bought a Perfecto wood grain hood for my 29 gallon tank 35 years ago. It was used continuously for many years and then sat unused for over a decade, until just recently when it was called back into service. I plugged the hood in, the bulb lit and we're in business. To be honest I would get a plain black hood if I were to buy one today, but no need!

The hood I purchased for the fish tank was perfect. It was everything I expected. Installation was easy with minimal effort. The only issue I had was two weeks ago the light bulb that came with it stop working. I know the seller has no control over that item. In all fairness I would purchase from this seller again.

Terta Fish Tank Submersible 2-10 Gallon Aquarium Heater

Terta Fish Tank Submersible 2-10 Gallon Aquarium HeaterAs most instructions may let you believe never position the heater vertically and towards the top but horizontally and at the bottom of your tank. This is because, all advanced submersible heaters including the HT10 work with a thermostat. Most thermostats I've seen so far come in a tubular shape. For such heaters, the thermostat unit is located on the opposite side of the tube as far away from the heater as possible. the problem why most of these heaters appear not to work and being labelled worthless is that they are positioned vertically by the user in aquariums and towards the surface. The problem with this position is that the water heated by the heater at the bottom rises to the top making the thermostat 'think' it reached optimal temperature. This problem is more apparent in aquariums that have no mechanical filters to circulate the water. Companies who develop these heaters test them in a typical environment where adequate water circulation evenly distributes the heated water in the tank causing the temperature to rise evenly and the thermostat to properly shut off the unit when the optimal temperature is reached.

If you position this heater horizontally and at the bottom of your tank this heater delivers.

I purchased this heater through Walmart 2xs. The first one lasted two days. The second one lasted one day. The directions say "submerge in water, then plug in." That's what I did. The box and directions both say that the heater will maintain the tank temperture at 78 degrees. The first heater I had brought the water temp to 74 and the second made it to 70. Now my fish are cold once again.

On the plus side, I really like the overall appearance of this heater. It is small and blends into the background (that would be why I purchased it the second time).

If you buy this item, I hope you have better luck! (Oh, my tank is 10 gallons. So, if you have a smaller tank, maybe it will work better.)

Buy Terta Fish Tank Submersible 2-10 Gallon Aquarium Heater Now

I have had 5 of these heaters now-I don't live near a pet store and this is pretty much what the local Walmart sells-so I went through a period of accumulating several of them for smaller tanks. I was actually going to buy one from Amazon awhile back because they were less expensive here, but read the reviews and decided to move my fish to larger tanks and buy Aqueon instead. Of the five heaters, all have been thrown out.

Also-let me clearly state that ALL of the heaters were positioned horizonatally in the bottom half of the tank (because I know I will forget to unplug them when changing water, so I wanted them below the level the water will fall to during water changes)-I mention this because someone felt that problems exist when they are put vertically at the top-I've never had them there.

First one-Light still worked, heating did not. Tank temp in Wisconsin winter fell to 62 degrees over night. Tested the heater in 5 gal. bucket of water. Dead, Heater tossed out. Luckily, only lost one fish.

Second one-Water somehow got into heater and electrocuted the fish. Fish and Heater tossed out.-

Third one-Malfunctioned and heated a ten gallon tank to 94 degrees. Somehow the resident (An American Flag fish) survived and is still living today. Heater tossed out.

Fourth One-Malfunctioned and heated tank to 82 degrees-Notice how I caught it much earlier because I got very careful with these heaters!-Tested the heater in a five gallon bucket filled with 90 degree water-then poured additional boiling water into the bucket-continued to heat. Heater tossed out.

Fifth one-Malfunctioned and heated tank to 80 degrees-Again-WAY MORE CAREFUL now-Tested in bucketsame as the fourth one. Heater Tossed out.

It took only TWO YEARS from buying the first heater, for all five heaters being thrown out and replaced with Aqueon. (All five heaters were bought before the first one malfunctioned, btw-or I wouldn't have bought them) Since they were all the same, I'm not sure how long each lasted, but I'd say a good guess is that they have a year of proper functioning in my experience.

If you are using this heater-PLEASE make sure that you never put your hand in the tank with it plugged in, and that you have a very good reliable thermometer on your tank that you check regularly. (I will say, however, a neighbor of mine had this heater in his tank-it took four years before his malfunctioned. Ironically, his was hung vertically at the top of the tank.)

My husband and I have had aquariums for over 20 years (taking about a 3 year break when we were traveling a lot for work) and I've never had a product that seemed to consistenly fail like this. My best advice is-buy the biggest tank you can afford (you'll have less problems and work, believe me)-and then buy any other heater but this one (which would be too small if you have a decent size tank, anyway!) A clue on what kind of performance you can count on is to LOOK AT THE WARRANTY of the product. Some heaters have a lifetime warranty! I only had one box from these heaters still laying around, but the warranty is for ONE YEAR. This should be your red flag. Generally, I have nothing against Tetra or their products-but this particular style heater (and I can't speak on their other designs, I have no experience with them-so read those reviews seperately from this one) is problematic, and I urge you to look at other styles.

Flourite Red, 7 kg / 15.4 lbs

Flourite Red, 7 kg / 15.4 lbsI have been keeping a planted aquarium for many years and Flourite is the best substrate for plants that I have ever used. True, it is a pain that you need to rinse it, however, if you use a very fine colander with a hose or in the bathtub like I did it is very easy. You will want to let the dust settle after you put it in your aquarium before turning your filter on. (depending on how well you rinsed the substrate.)

Other reviewers are not kidding, you will need to take this stuff outside and spend a long time with a hose and bucket to rinse out the silt to an acceptable level. It looks nice in the aquarium though.

Buy Flourite Red, 7 kg / 15.4 lbs Now

I put this substrate in my turtle tank after reading a glowing endorsement on a web site dedicated to turtles. I knew upfront that it needed to be rinsed well, more so than an average back of rocks. What I didn't expect was if the turtle or fish makes the slightest fuss with the flourite a cloud of dust is dispersed throughout the tank. The benefits of this product are the pleasant appearance and use as a planting medium. The drawbacks are the constant production of dust and the increased filter maintenance. Unless you're wanting to plant your aquarium I would recommend sticking to river rocks or other suitable substrate. If you choose to use this product I definitely recommend switching from the sponge filter to floss. I am using a 100% polyester crafter's stuffing and it is excellent at catching all the dust.

I'll admit I used to purchase this same bag at certain brick and mortar pet stores but once I saw the difference in price on Amazon, it was a no-brainer.

I have used this product for several years now, the fish in my pond just love it. It softens quickly but stays afloat. The smaller fish also nibble on it. It does not cloud the water at all. I recommend this product enthusiastically.

Petco Double Sided Aquarium Background

Petco Double Sided Aquarium BackgroundThis is NOT for 55 gallon aquariums (like the prior review states)!!!! It is ONLY big enough for 10 gallon tanks and smaller!! Maybe they sent me the wrong one?? Very disappointed to receive in the mail when I thought it was meant for a 55 gallon tank. Unfortunately there are no dimensions in the product description either. That would have been helpful. I should have known better... :( I will be returning since I have no use for it...

fit good on my 55 gallon setup but you will have to trim it up some , easy to install happy with product

Como 5 Pcs Plastic Floating Tropical Fishes Ornament for Aquarium

Como 5 Pcs Plastic Floating Tropical Fishes Ornament for Aquariumone sank to bottom. Waste of $ for us...only ordered to appease children who had lost their fish. Never again

fish are pretty decent. they do float. they move best near the filter and a bubblemaker. they dont poop or require feeding. great if you want the look but not the responsibility.

I guess for the price I really shouldn't complain. I bought a set of these hoping to entertain my Betta and give him some "company" but they don't really move even though the tank is aerated and some of them don't float.

Spectrastone Special Black Aquarium Gravel for Freshwater Aquariums, 25-Pound Bag

Spectrastone Special Black Aquarium Gravel for Freshwater Aquariums, 25-Pound BagThe product is as expected for Black Aquarium Gravel. However, this is NOT 2/25 lb bags as in the name/description, but rather 1, 25lb bag. I know, I should have known the price was too good to be true. Came sooner than expected, but was disappointed that I had to order another bag in order to finish my aquarium.

ALSO... it is MUCH cheaper to order from the seller directly, at ozbo.com!

Elite Optima Pump w/Rheostat

Elite Optima Pump w/RheostatI bought this pump to replace my tetra whisper 40. The tank is in my bedroom so I'm trying to make it as quiet as possible. This pump, as it turns out, is much louder than the tetra. I like that you can control the output but I found out the more output the louder it gets. I was able to make a cover for the tetra to help buffer the sound. I don't think I could do the same for this it's pretty big. Also the power cord is really really short which is a big problem if you want to place this pump more then 2 feet from the power outlet.
