Wow, some of those old cliches are true! And Lee's just had to crank up the assembly lines to prove it! Or did they just throw together some surplus parts from other products? Did they ever even try to use their own products?

I found it simply impossible to put the pegs from the airline holders into the suction cups by hand, and I'm rather sure I'd break them by using plyers or other tools. So I've given up.

Only problem I had was the "small" part . The airline tubing holders are small.

I don't see the problem as some reviews. One being a square peg in a round hole thing.

I think it's designed like that to make a more secure connection? Why not a one piece? Who knows...got 2 different type from different manufactures, both seem good enough to rate 5.

I have large Oscars and being the dogs they are, one of these suction cups went into the tank unsecured. One Dog ate it and became lodged in his mouth. (180 gallon tank). Diving for my Oscar, netted him, jumped out of the net, picked him up and secured him. Got tweezers, and gently performed an extraction. Oscar was traumatized for an hour, now doing well.

There would have been a problem, but the suction cup was not completely over the tube.

Other than that, they are perfect for keeping the lines down and out out of the way.

Agree with other reviewers, very difficult to put together. Completely idiotic to have square peg to go in small round hole (how on earth did that get manufacturing approval?).

Finally managed to make it work (bend clip, luckily dosen't break) and force and wiggle! However, even the clip dosen't hold normal tubing well at all.

I actually thought I had bought a defective product until I checked it out other reviews on amazon!

These are a great and cheap way to keep your air stones in place, HOWEVER, if you purchase them you will have to use a knife to shave some of the plastic out of the hole (very easy to do since the plastic is very soft. Took me less than three seconds) but after you do that the pegs will fit into the holes no problem.

I purchased this "Threaded Bulkhead" for my above ground swimming pool plumbing needs. Although the bulk head is working, the only standard thing on it is that you can slip 2" pipe inside the back side of the fitting. The inside threads are designed for something other than 2" pipe thread and my local exclusive plumbing supply store, that has practically every conceivable type of pipe fitting on the planet, was baffled as to the thread spacing. If you don't need to attach any plumbing to the inside of whatever your using this bulk head on you'll be fine. If you're like me and need to attach more plumbing inside your tank / pool steer clear of this one... Unless you can get the non-standard threaded fitting from the same vendor! Just F.Y.I.

Great and very unique looking aquarium. Perfect view from all angles when against the wall. The included LED light looks great, especially the blue LEDs to mimic moonlight at night. The light is definitely not powerful enough for growing freshwater plants though, as I had to upgrade to 3 compact florescent lights, which also meant not being able to use the included acrylic top any longer. In all a great aquarium, that looks beautiful, and is perfect as is for a fish only aquarium. Surprisingly I found it way cheaper at Petsmart though; very rare to see anyone beat Amazon's prices anymore.

Como Blue Large Aquarium Filter Sponge for Fish Tank

Purchased this item and it was delivered just fine. When I went to put this in the tank I noticed that there was a lot of blue sediment coming from this filter pad. I soaked it for a while and squeezed it thinking after a while the sediment would wash out, but it didn't. I also put the whole pad in the washing machine on the rinse cycle and still there was a lot of sediment coming from this filter. So much that if you poured the water in a white bowl you could see that the water was blue.

I bought this filter to clean the water, not to add stuff to it.

Compared to a couple of models of Tetra air pumps I have, the Fusion air pumps are BY FAR the best value. Near-silent operation, two air nipples to attach your airstones or whatever to, very long-lived compared to similar pumps truly the best value. And a BARGAIN too. I have a ten and a forty gallon tank and have my older Tetra air pumps offline. Fusion air pumps are so much better that there's really no comparing the two. Vastly superior design, excellent appearance, 100% satisfied.

Bought this unit to replace two small units. After about forty days one of the pumps in this dual pump unit died. Since I ran my time options out with Amazon and JW Pet wants a fee plus the cost of shipping to them, I thought I'd take it apart and see if I could get it running properly. Although it's well made and the variable concept works, the actual internal pumps are pretty cheap. It is basically a copy of what one of my single units had. It pumps a lot more air, however. So I still use the one good side and one of my older, smaller pumps. I was hoping that it would have lasted at least a year or so, or the stated warranty. I'll update how long the working side lasts for certain. I'm also going to call JW and see if they'll ship me the pump part.

Could be long, boring and thorough, but why? Nobody cares about the brand or appearance, this thing sits in a cabinet, hopefully never needing to be messed with or seen again.

The main issue with air pumps is noise. This pump is silent.

This pump delivers great air, and I can't hear it.

Why I dealt with the low buzz/hum of the Tetra pumps before is a mystery to me other than I didn't know better. When I think of all the other pumps I have had it terrariums or aquariums and my efforts to silence them (on carpet, in a box, in a cooler, towel over, etc) I wish I would have just gotten one of these instead.

Nobody cares about the look of the air pump, its color, whatever all people want to do it plug it an and forget it is there. This pump is doing a great job of that.

I have a Tetra Whisper Air Pump (77851 for 10 gallon) and I was satisfied with how that worked but needed another air pump since I was getting another 10 gallon tank. Based on reviews, I decided to give this pump a try.

This is very quiet and is capable of putting out much more air (and its adjustable!) than the Tetra Whisper 10. You can turn it all the way down and each of the 2 valves put out less air than the Tetra Whisper 10, but if you turn it all the way up, it is much stronger than the Tetra Whisper 10.

Im very impressed with this Air Pump. Im terms of noise level, especially considering how strong it can be, it is very quiet. You can hear a slight low humming sound if you listen closely, but the sound of the bubbles in your water will mask that.

Ive been running this for about a week now and would highly recommend this. For just under 12 dollars, this is a great value!

Since I purchased these sponge filters for my tanks, my aquatic pets are much healthier. the tanks stay cleaner and they are so easy to clean plus very economical to use. I keep all kinds of tropical fish, axolotyls and crabs. I have tried other companies sponge filters and they do not compare in keeping the tank clean and healthy. Marineland 31501 Screen, 2.5-Gallon

I got a small 2.5 gallon glass aquarium at my local Petco so my beta fish has a little more room to swim. Unfortunately, they don't sell their mesh tops there for a tank that small. So I went online and ordered this. They didn't give a lot of information about the product so I almost didn't order it, but it was the only 2.5 gallon cover I could find and for 8 bucks, what the heck. I'm glad I did. My tank is 12"L x 6"W x 8"H and this screen fits perfectly on the top. It doesn't sit over the edge or anything, fits right in the black plastic outline. It also has locking handles. Basically a knob with a little metal oval bit on the opposite end that twists around so when you set it on top if your tank, the metal bits tuck under the black plastic lip. Perfect so nothing hops out. As for the screen itself, it's 12" x 6" and it appears to be made of pretty sturdy metal for how small it is. Lots of holes. 5 stars because it does exactly what it needs to do and does it well.

I purchased this to cover my 2 gallon betta fish tank. It fits perfectly. I have a happy fish and now he can't jump out.

Aquarium Pharmaceuticals RENA FilStar xP3 Canister Filter

I have been running a Rena XP3 canister filter on my 90 gallon freshwater aquarium for a few weeks now. My initial comment is that this is the easiest cannister filter to prime that I have ever owned. Having done the suck-the-hose-and-spit routine, and the restart-repeatedly routine with other filters, this filter is a joy. It's virtually self-priming. With the filter UNplugged, you simply remove the little cap from the top of the intake tube which you have placed on the upper rim of your aquarium, and pour a cup of water into it via the funnel that is provided, and the filter does the rest. The filter fills with water from the tank in 1 to 2 minutes; you then plug it in, and you're in business. Once I had the hoses connected and the filter's easy-disconnect valve closed, it took me less than 2 minutes to be fully functional.

The only issue here and this is crucial is that you MUST NOT FORCE the intake/output disconnect valve lever down into a locked position; i.e., you must be certain that it's seated on the top of the filter correctly, and then GENTLY PUSH the lever down. If you feel resistance, you don't have it seated correctly. Just wiggle it into position, and gently push the lever down. It locks into place and you are ready to self-prime it as described above. I am sure that there are some people out there who have impatiently tried to force the connect-disconnect lever into a locked position, and thereby damaged the lever and/or housing. Ordinary prudent gentleness is required here.

The interior of the cannister is extremely flexible as to the placement of media. There are several stacking trays inside that you can fill with any media that your heart desires. Rena has a broad array of sponges with different filtration densities and media pouches to choose from, and you can add more (OR DIFFERENT) media as you so choose. The media pouches are typically outrageously priced in LFS stores, but quite affordable through Amazon and online aquarium suppliers.

In addition to two grades of sponges and 3 other media that came with the filter, I added a wad of the same biological filtration ribbon that I use in my koi pond bio filters, placed into one of the empty trays (clean and unused media) to lend more support for development of nitrifying bacteria.

There is no media-water bypass with this filter because of it's central upward flow design. Crystal clear water is the result. Nitrite cycling jump started at two weeks with one of the packaged non-refrig bio product has gone off without a hitch. After doing a basic gravel clean with the python, the somewhat clouded water cleared of sediment to crystal clear within 20 minutes in my 90 gallon tank.

And is this filter as silent as they claim? Absolutely silent. I find myself looking to see if the plants are waving in a current, just to make sure the thing is still running. Just amazing. No overheating either.

As to customer service .... I had a very good experience. I had thought from reading Rena's website that there should have been a venturi included with the canister. So I emailed them after-hours, asking "where is the venturi", and gave them my phone number. Early the next morning, I got a call from the technical support folks, telling me that the venturi had been fazed out a few years ago because they felt it didn't add much to the effectiveness of the filter, and that no, I wasn't missing anything. Very prompt, courteous and professional communication. [But, Rena, if you are reading this, please update your website diagrams to reflect the absence of a venturi on current models. I think this is more than just a static page caching issue.]

I would highly recommend this Rena Filstar XP3 to potential buyers.

I have been running an XP3 & XP2 continuously for several years now with no problems. I admit, in this time I have had no need to contact customer service as I have had no problems. I run them with quartz sphere biological media, chemi-pure and or puri-gem, and the sponges that come with the filter.

What I like about them.

Quiet.

High flow rate.

Good volume of media capacity.

Flexibility potential for media used.

Easy to clean.

Flexible water return setup options once you are to the tank

Issues I wish were better.

Morer flexible hose as part of the package would ease set up. What they give you is fine and heavy duty, but its stiffness make is difficult to set up and puts a twist warp on the direction/position of the intake siphon tube and on return mechanisms at the tank. The stiff hose should be replaced and quality stainless steel band screw clamp to secure tubes to fittings allowing more flexible setup and changes to the set up. Once you set up with the current hose supplied with the kit you will have great difficulty getting it apart to change your setup.

The siphon tube sections don't hold together well sometimes and are easily knocked apart when doing water changes and tank cleaning for example. A snugger joining of pieces would be nice. I also don't like the light blue color of the siphon tube. I wish it were clear.

Rena/Mars Fishcare is the worst company I have ever dealt with. The customer service is a joke. If you can get someone to answer the phone or return your messages all they will do is make you jump through hoops until you are so frustrated you just give up. The whole time your fish suffer. I purchased an XP filter and it quit working after 2 weeks. You're better off spending your money on ANY OTHER FILTER.

I have no idea why this filter is so expensive except to guess that the US dollar is low. This unit does have it's fans but I will tell you that the unit is full of liabilities. LEAKS is the achilles heal of any filter and completely unacceptable. The inlet and outlet to the pump is only sealed by two small o-rings. The quick detach unit is not so secure that slight pull by the tubing can cause leaks. Even worse, if there is any outlet load whatsoever, the unit will leak. Forget trying to hook a uv sterilizer or CO2 chamber to the outflow--I would not trust the unit not to leak. Also, the leak is not immediately noticeable. It will leak into the top pump unit and then start to trickle out hours later. I keep mine in a plastic bin because I have had multiple episodes of leaks. MULTIPLE!!!

Another area of problem has to do with cheapness also. The impeller cover has small plastic ridges that hold it in place. Unfortunately the tolerances of cheap plastic is not so good that the cover has popped off, which creates a lot of noise and limits the output of the unit dramatically. Of course, warranty is only as good as the provider. I called Rena/API and was promised a replacement cover. None was received.

No filter canister is perfect but I will take the simplicity of a Eheim Classic 2217 over the XP3 any day.

Aquatop D2HT-200 Aquarium Heater Digital Dual Display, 200-Watt

I purchased this heater in August of this year. I got home this evening to find the fish in our 55g aquarium acting sluggish. A peak at the thermometer shows 68 degrees F (normal temp is 79). The lights were all off on this heater. I checked to be certain it was plugged in. It was. I tried a different outlet and it came on for about 2 seconds and went back off.

I took it to the sink where I submersed it again, and then plugged it up. It came on and began heating. I let it go for about 10 minutes and it was still working. I just put it back in my aquarium and it appears to be working again. But gee what if I had not looked closely at the tank? I'm about to head out of town and don't think I can trust this thing. Arrrgghh.

My fish had a case of ick so i needed to raise my water temp to 82.My other heater wouldnt heat past 77.Ordered this heater and put it in and in 3 hrs i had 82 degree water.I am going to replace my other aquarium heaters with these in case i need to raise water temp on those some day.Yes they do vary in temp a couple degrees but that is not near enough difference to harm the fish i keep.

Good concept if heat worked more than 6 months. Bought 3 200 watt and 8 100 watt heaters all failed after 6 months of use. Breed Angels and can not depend on them. Start to flash 90 deg-water temp is really 68 will not reset even if unplugged and plugged back in. Sent 8 back to aqua-top still waiting to here back. Stick with old school ones. Had to replace all aqua-tops!!!!

Programming the temperature on here was a snap, and considering that the tank sits right next to the door that we let the dog in and out from, and we're getting into the cold part of the midwest winter the fact that the temp never deviates from that 81 degrees has made keeping the aquarium a snap. Love it.

I had mine for just under a year. I love the looks of this heater. The dual LED displays are great, and it has worked flawlessly up to today. I noticed condensation on the interior glass over the past few months. Today the heater shuts off (fuse?) after running a couple hours. I reset it by unplugging it and plugging it back in. Aquatic Life Light T5 HO 2-Lamp Link Fresh Aquarium Light, 48-Inch

After having this for a few weeks and trying to grow some plants I found out the bulbs on this are just not quite up to snuff . I dumped the bulbs in favor of 2x 6700k bulbs and saw a noticable improvment in plant growth . Plus the Red "rosetta" buld just gives off a not so bight red hue , so I suggest at least dumping the rosetta bulb and getting a 54 watt coralife 6700k available here on amazon , better yet 2x 6700k

I recieved this and was a little leery seeing it has no reviews yet, and I been burned on buying a cheeper light that did not last even a week, but I took a chance and it paid off . The light is very bright with out being over powering . I am running a 55 gallon setup and it lights the bottom very well . It comes with 2 bulbs a 6000 k and a red plant bulb . Not entirly sold on the red bulb but its not bad . The housing is all aluminum with the ends being hard plastic . The switch is well made and has a good solid feel to it . The protective lens cover is plexiglass . I like how well made it is , it is fairly easy to change the bulbs , just take out 2 screws on the non switch end, slide out the plexiglass , and you have easy access to the bulbs . Sockets are of high quality , and easy to work with .

I realy like the reflectors high polished mirror like reflectors do a outstanding job of directing the light down. All in all the light is very heavy unlike a few of the other fixtures I had that were light . This makes me suspect that I have better quality here as a good quality ballest it not light in weight .

The light takes standard 48" HO bulbs so my next buld change I will probaly go with some 6700k bulbs.

Their are a few cons to this setup . I think the light would do better if they would have installed a few fans or at least some vents on top of the unit as it gets quite warm . not scalding hot just a little uncomfortable to handle if its been on for a while . Another con is you can't use the light without the legs , the bottom gets pretty hot and its not recomended by the manufacturer so your stuck with using the legs . Not a big deal for me but might be for some . also for those with a enclosed canopy its not recomeded to use this light . Also their are no paper instructions , just a cd instructions so if you dont have a computer handy, your out of luck.

Another con is their is only one switch so you must run all the bulbs or none , no way to use only one or the other . not a big deal for me but could be for some and if your using a standard AQUARIUM GLASS CANOPIE it will interfearwith that as you will not be able to open the fron glass , I already had 2 VERSA TOP 24"-TWIN TUBE-BLACK http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002AS8G6/ref=oh_o04_s00_i00_details so no problem for me .

To sum it it if your looking for a good quality light for your set up I don't think you will go wrong at this price point , my plants are responding to the light and I have new growth . As to the reliability of the unit that remains to be seen , I have had it 2 weeks now but am not worried. I do not regret my purchace . I considered marineland LEDs but they are too expensive and not recomended for planted tanks per marineland , even the 48 doublebright if you will look on their website in the F&Q section .

I bought one of these from my local fish store for my 75 gallon planted aquarium. I also have a 36inch on my 46 gallon tank. I like the lights. They don't get too hot for a unit without a fan. They don't buzz or flicker, and the reflectors are of good quality. I bought two more from amazon to add to my 75 gallon for a total of three lights. They mount together very easily. The instructions say not to use them under a canopy, but I do anyway, it has an open back and enough space between its top and the light to allow air flow. I did end up taking the lid off the canopy because my tank was running a few degrees warmer than usual because of it. I would highly recommend using these lights for your planted tank. With the right bulbs your plants will thrive and grow. The lights are tough, I dropped one, it stopped working, but was able to fix it by pushing the light holder mounts back in place and tightening the screw back. I was worried for bit, but the bulbs didn't break, and the light took no damage.

Spent about 20 minutes assembling and preparing the light. Placed it above my aquarium and flipped the power button.... Nothing.

After some tinkering with the bulbs one of them started flashing. Then suddenly the lights came on and it seemed to be working.

About a minute later I heard a pop and it turned off. Then a few seconds later I noticed smoke coming from the unit.

Needless to say its broken and I'm very disappointed.

This is comparable to a similar leash I got years ago that I paid $20 for. I'd highly recommend this one!

My requirements for a leash were fairly simple.

The leash must...

... have a sliding spring clasp rather than a lobster claw spring clasp.

... have two handles.

... be pink (I really don't care about the color, but I'm sick of everyone saying, "HE has the prettiest eyes", ugh!), so pink it must be.

... be heavy duty and sturdy.

That's it, that's all I wanted. Thankfully, that's exactly what I got. Granted, it's no leather lead, so workmanship isn't 100% high quality. However, for my big male malamute/CBR, I bought one of these that lasted his entire life. May God rest his beautiful soul.

I expect this one to last a long time too.

Horizontal Aquarium Thermometer

Easy to read, cheap and accurate. This one is removable without braking, which the older similar ATI thermometer wasn't. So all in all I can only recommend it.

I have one other ATI thermometer that works great. In looking for a second aquarium thermometer, I tried other brands, all of which failed miserably in comparison to this ATI product. Upon trying another ATI thermometer, success!

Nice Thermometer worked well, you can mount it vertically or horizontally. Seems to keep accurate temp! I have purchased two, I like them mounted horizontally along the bottom edge.

A lot of people say these types of thermometers aren't accurate. I disagree highly, I have several standard tube types that read the same temperature as this excellent unit. Plus unlike those where I have to take a moment to figure out the temperature, this one is clear at a glance. Unlike some other similar models, this one can be moved to other tanks or different spots on the same tanks. Very glad I purchased this, will buy this model again if needed!
