I bought this for my brother's 10 gallon anole set up. I love that is has a locking door on the top, because opening the whole screen has allowed his anoles to escape in the past. The only complaint I have is that the door doesn't seal completely flush with the rest of the screen, so there were tiny openings that a very small animal could possibly get through. I think we may have had a small cricket escape that way. Otherwise it was a great investment.

I bought this screen cover to use on a 10 gallon tank with a small snake. The hatch does not secure flush with the rest of the screen cover and can be easily pushed up to allow small animals such as snakes and geckos to escape. I would not recommend using this screen cover for any animal that can fit through small spaces.

Super Naturals Type: Moonlight Sand

Sand looks great. Be sure to rinse and follow the bag instructions. Tank was a little cloudy for a day but settled and is crystal clear again.

I have this product (the white sand version) in 2 of my aquariums. IMO, it's pretty good straight forward stuff. Sand, in general, is a little tricky to maintain over gravel. But if you have the time and patience, the end product will make your tank look very attractive.

Just note, make sure to rinse the sand before adding it in to your aquarium. Instructions are on the package! Also, after a day or two, it will still look a little cloudy. I did a 50% water change and my tank cleared up by the next day.

I really love this sand for my betta tanks. I rinsed it in a bucket before adding and the water didn't get cloudy at all. It is very fine and can get sucked up while vacuuming the tank, but only a very minimal amount that is unnoticeable. It is very lightly colored, almost white but not quite. My assassin snails love to burrow in it too.

Exotic Environments Castle Fortress with Gargoyles Aquarium Ornament, 10-Inch by 3-1/2-Inch by 5-1/

I gave this product 4 out of 5 stars, because it is smaller than it seems and there's a few key aspects not mentioned in the product description, so read on.

The castle measures just over 5.5 inches in height, just under 8.5 inches in length and 3 inches in width (width measured at the bottom).

From the picture you can't tell, but the main two windows only measure 1/2 an inch in width and .75 in height, so only small fish can fit through. Also, the top of the towers have very SMALL openings, about the size of a dime, so again, very small fish might be able to fit through. The openings do not have sharp edges, so no need to sand them.

The overall construction is actually very good, sturdy and nicely painted. If you plan to mod it somehow, you'll need a precise and strong tool, I would guess some kind of Dremel attachment. It's made of some kind of hardened plastic.

I ended up not using this castle in my aquarium, because it looked too small in it. I have a 50 gallon, oval shaped glass aquarium, so it has more height than length. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

Kent Marine 00856 SeaSquirt Feeder

I love this squirt however, the little hole is just barely big enough to suck up thawed brine shrimp. I guess I didn't realize it's only best for fluid-based food only. In any case, it does suck up thawed brine and I can spot feed our gobies, corals and our anemone... the Gobie quickly figured out that there was FOOD on a stick and tends to attack the tip at feeding time. It won't suck up foods as large as frozen mysis (which was my only disappointment and lack of 5 stars since the description isn't clear) It's a great invention and totally beats the turkey baster feeding method!

I use this to spot feed mysis shrimp to my corals and some fish. Sometimes I have an issue with the mysis not fitting thru the tiny hole in the end of the seasquirt. That is the only downside to this. Otherwise its a great tool thats adjustable to whatever length you could possibly need for a tank.

Like others, I felt the hole was too small. But before i got too mad and broke it over my knee i decided to try making the hole just a little bigger by using a small drill bit and a cordless drill. It worked!! I used a drill bit that was just a tad bit bigger then the existing hole. Wasn't too hard to do and it worked well. Now i can suck up thawed frozen foods much better with no clogs.

I'm still not completely happy with this product although i am still using it. I feel like it never really gets clean because i hate taking it apart to really clean it after every use. Sometimes i feel it's a bit too big with too many parts. I have a 72g bow front and it is more then long enough for a tank that size.

It definitely does the job though and i haven't found anything better.

Tetra Whisper Power Filter 40, 40-Gallon

I have used the Tetra Whisper filters on many different tanks for many years. I was quite sad to see them

apparently go away for a while. Seeing the filters available once again and I immediately bought a couple,

actually three now. Two have been returned and I am using the current one till I find a replacement.

The Whisper filters of old I thought were quite aptly named since were it not being able to see the water movement

across the surface of the tank you would never even know they were running.

I had a good experience with the whisper 60 and the whispser 20. but for some reason the whisper 40 is so loud.... it started off quiet for about a month and i was happy(not to mention i could save some money) . but as soon as i took it out to clean the tubes and impeller. booom louder and louder it got(i went thru 3 of these) . i cleaned them up and returned them all. DO NOT BUY THE 40 FOR SOME REASON THEY CANT GET IT RIGHT... This is by far the noisiest filter I have ever heard. Gave it one star because I had to give it something. Have no idea how it filters because I couldn't stand the droning noise for more than half an hour. My fish tank is in a semi-enclosed area where the noise echoes out into the room. My job requires me to transcribe work using ear phones. Could not hear with this going. Hopefully I can get my money back. Bought it replace a Top Fin because I couldn't find a replacement for the strainer end. The much quieter Top Fin is back in place with a temporary strainer.

I use these for my turtle tank. They are decent, but the connections to the air tubes is very hard to get on. It might be easier to use the soft airtubes if you buy these.. Maybe one of those extension things might help as well.

Aquatic Life Light T5 HO 2-Lamp Link Fresh Aquarium Light, 48-Inch

After having this for a few weeks and trying to grow some plants I found out the bulbs on this are just not quite up to snuff . I dumped the bulbs in favor of 2x 6700k bulbs and saw a noticable improvment in plant growth . Plus the Red "rosetta" buld just gives off a not so bight red hue , so I suggest at least dumping the rosetta bulb and getting a 54 watt coralife 6700k available here on amazon , better yet 2x 6700k

I recieved this and was a little leery seeing it has no reviews yet, and I been burned on buying a cheeper light that did not last even a week, but I took a chance and it paid off . The light is very bright with out being over powering . I am running a 55 gallon setup and it lights the bottom very well . It comes with 2 bulbs a 6000 k and a red plant bulb . Not entirly sold on the red bulb but its not bad . The housing is all aluminum with the ends being hard plastic . The switch is well made and has a good solid feel to it . The protective lens cover is plexiglass . I like how well made it is , it is fairly easy to change the bulbs , just take out 2 screws on the non switch end, slide out the plexiglass , and you have easy access to the bulbs . Sockets are of high quality , and easy to work with .

I realy like the reflectors high polished mirror like reflectors do a outstanding job of directing the light down. All in all the light is very heavy unlike a few of the other fixtures I had that were light . This makes me suspect that I have better quality here as a good quality ballest it not light in weight .

The light takes standard 48" HO bulbs so my next buld change I will probaly go with some 6700k bulbs.

Their are a few cons to this setup . I think the light would do better if they would have installed a few fans or at least some vents on top of the unit as it gets quite warm . not scalding hot just a little uncomfortable to handle if its been on for a while . Another con is you can't use the light without the legs , the bottom gets pretty hot and its not recomended by the manufacturer so your stuck with using the legs . Not a big deal for me but might be for some . also for those with a enclosed canopy its not recomeded to use this light . Also their are no paper instructions , just a cd instructions so if you dont have a computer handy, your out of luck.

Another con is their is only one switch so you must run all the bulbs or none , no way to use only one or the other . not a big deal for me but could be for some and if your using a standard AQUARIUM GLASS CANOPIE it will interfearwith that as you will not be able to open the fron glass , I already had 2 VERSA TOP 24"-TWIN TUBE-BLACK http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002AS8G6/ref=oh_o04_s00_i00_details so no problem for me .

To sum it it if your looking for a good quality light for your set up I don't think you will go wrong at this price point , my plants are responding to the light and I have new growth . As to the reliability of the unit that remains to be seen , I have had it 2 weeks now but am not worried. I do not regret my purchace . I considered marineland LEDs but they are too expensive and not recomended for planted tanks per marineland , even the 48 doublebright if you will look on their website in the F&Q section .

I bought one of these from my local fish store for my 75 gallon planted aquarium. I also have a 36inch on my 46 gallon tank. I like the lights. They don't get too hot for a unit without a fan. They don't buzz or flicker, and the reflectors are of good quality. I bought two more from amazon to add to my 75 gallon for a total of three lights. They mount together very easily. The instructions say not to use them under a canopy, but I do anyway, it has an open back and enough space between its top and the light to allow air flow. I did end up taking the lid off the canopy because my tank was running a few degrees warmer than usual because of it. I would highly recommend using these lights for your planted tank. With the right bulbs your plants will thrive and grow. The lights are tough, I dropped one, it stopped working, but was able to fix it by pushing the light holder mounts back in place and tightening the screw back. I was worried for bit, but the bulbs didn't break, and the light took no damage.

Spent about 20 minutes assembling and preparing the light. Placed it above my aquarium and flipped the power button.... Nothing.

After some tinkering with the bulbs one of them started flashing. Then suddenly the lights came on and it seemed to be working.

About a minute later I heard a pop and it turned off. Then a few seconds later I noticed smoke coming from the unit.

Needless to say its broken and I'm very disappointed.

Microbe-Lift NiteOutII for Home Aquariums

I'm generally having problem with my tanks being dirty due to the set ups I choose. I've tried a number of filter innoculants and comparable products, but never had anything work as fast as NiteOut II. This thing truly cycles your tank, my NO2 levels have dropped from >5ppm to 0 in 2 days. You don't have to smear it on the media, or marinade the media in it; just throw it in the tank, and that's that.

I read some other reviews here, stating that the water clouds up, I didn't ever have this problem. The solution itself is completely clear and odorless.

I have been using the M-L NiteOutII for 2 months now. My fish are doing great. They look healthy and happy. My buddy Bubba died. Bubba was a 13 inch King Kong Red Parrot Cichlid that was like a dog in a tank. When he died, I didn't wanted another fish right away so my tank sat empty for well over a year and was an eyesore. I finally decided to set the tank back up, but I was not in the mood to wait a month to achieve a good cycle with some silly goldfish or something. I went to my favorite aquarium shop and asked them what I could use to obtain a fast cycle...and NO I don't want that CYCLE stuff they sell at Petco. Without hesitation, the freshwater guru reached behind the counter and gave me 2 things. He gave me Special Blend and he gave me Nite Out II by the same company. (I posted a link for Special Blend below) He said they need to be used in conjunction to achieve a full cycle, and the dosing instructions are very clear on the bottle. He stressed that you MUST SHAKE THEM. This is basically a bottle of bacteria which tends to settle on the bottom of the bottle. No shake, no results. Read, read, read the bottle. It tells you to shake, tells you to keep the lights off for about 72 hours so that the light does not interfre with the bacteria's life cycle before they can establish and it tells you to use the Special Blnd on certain days and the Nite Out every other day. OH...and hold your nose. The rotten egg stink on the Special Blend will make your hair stand on end, but goes away quickly. Nite Out II is odorless. Anyway....within 2 weeks I had a gorgeous cycle. Ammonia, zero. Nitrites, zero. Nitrates, acceptable. Water, clear. I adore this stuff. I use it after gravel cleaning, water changes or filter media swaps and the beneficial bacteria seems to be healthy and active in doing their job. I did a little research on this company because I had never heard of them before, but it seems they have been in the pond industry for quite some time and just recently broke into the home aquarium market. And they mean business. They are not fooling around. I don't think I have ever seen a cycle occur so quickly.

I decided to try a soil substrate in my previously cycled tank and the ammonia shot up to the point that I had to do 2-3 water changes every day just to keep the ammonia under 1ppm. Even then, hours later, it would be climbing again. Apparently the gravel I topped the soil with was not a fine enough grain to seal the soil in well enough to slow down the ammonia from reaching the water column. I put sand on top of the gravel and started adding this product to my tank. Without any water changes, my ammonia dropped to .50 and stayed there. I couldn't believe it! For the first time in 2 weeks I went a whole day whitout a water change. I added another capful on day 2 and my ammonia dropped to .25. I did a 20% water change and now my ammonia is almost at 0. The sand helped, but the Microb-lift is what really stabilized my water. This stuff is the real deal!

My tank was at 0,5,20 with a pH of 7.8. I did a 25% pwc and then used this product (double dose) and one day later my water tests 0.25,5,5. I wasn't looking to reduce NO3 and the bottle says it oxidizes NH3 and NO2 anyway. My bottle is black, not white (not that it matters but the directions could be different on different bottles?) and does NOT tell me to shake or to avoid light. I shook anyway for the second and finally the third dose because I figured since it had different bacteria in it I should homogenize. Still crazy high NO2. It also lowered my pH to 7.4. I'm ordering the API NitraZorb pouches and hope to get better results.

This decor looks nice in my tank, complementing the ancient ruins style I've tried to create in there. The wall does a nice job of hiding the front view of the intake tube for my filter. But I just wish the wall was a bit taller so it could better fit the height of my 29-gallon tank.

This is a fun corner decoration, nicely detailed, for fish tank or vivarium. my only teeny tiny gripes are 1) there should be a suction cup on the back to secure it to the back wall of the tank. Every so often I find it leaning forward because a critter has pushed it off the glass. But those are cheap enough. And 2)It kind of irritates that the same style isn't offered for both sides-I don't want to mix my ancient temples...it's such a minor thing really but I prefer balance. This right handed one resembles an ancient Asian temple where as the left handed one resembles a Mayan temple.

This is EXACTLY what I wanted for the jungle ruins theme in my fish tank! I only have two very small complaints. 1) it's not as tall as I would like for my 29 gallon, but that was easily fixed by creating a sort of hill with my sand, and 2) like another reviewer stated, it needs suction cups or something in the back. It tips forward pretty easily, even after trying to "anchor" it down with sand. Besides those two things, it's amazing and I'm very happy I spent the money on it.

Fluval Flora Stainless Steel Planting Tongs - 10.63-inches

I have a 5-gallon planted tank with Crystal Red Shrimp and tons of tiny live plants. With the piece of wood that I have in the tank and the fear of smashing small critters, I bought these tweezers, Fluval Plant Scissors, and long tweezers without the bend in the tip. These are great for planting individual pieces of bunch plants and GREAT for catching and squishing snails. Who needs chemical snail control when you have the therapy and satisfaction of squishing them yourself? The tweezers made themselves triply valuable when I started a 65-gallon 36x18 planted tank. Even on a stool I am up to my armpit in water to reach the bottom. These tweezers make it possible to replant the bottom of the tank and pick up debris on the bottom, rearrange stones and wood, and minutely adjust anything that needs adjusting. I have used them to deliberately place tiny bits of glossostigma, dwarf baby tears, flame moss, christmas tree moss, and riccia where I need it and to hold them in place while using fishing line to attach it to wood, rocks, or in the gravel.

I recommend these for anyone who has a planted tank. The angled tips make even the hardest-to-reach corners easily accessible, and keep clumsy fingers away from delicate roots and critters.

This must be some really bad stainless steel. These tongs rusted in no time. I only use them for my freshwater aquarium. I got them on sale, otherwise I'd be very disappointed.

I had a pair of no-brand stainless steel tongs I bought from eBay for 10 dollars a while back. It proved to be very useful and comfortable to use, I decided to look on Amazon to take advantage of my Prime membership. At the time I bought this, it was 10 dollars. I see that it is cheaper now, so it's probably worth the money at the time of this writing (11/14/11), but I would not have purchased this if I had known the followings:

A bit too much resistance on the tongs when trying to grab squeeze the tongs.

Round but non-smooth tips screeches against fish tank glass.

My eBay one has none of these flaws, but for 6 bucks, it's not bad a bad buy with Prime.

If you're looking for surgical precision, look somewhere else. When you pince the tip together you can see a gap near the tip of the prongs, this causes a bit weaker grip. The strongest grip right at the angle, its not the greatest grip but overall gets the job done... Kinda. I def prefer my hands for some uses

Prevue Hendryx-Clean Life Tall Bird Cage

This cage arrived in a damaged box and was itself damaged. A plastic clip on the base was broken and some of the wires were slightly bent. I couldn't straighten the wires, and I wasn't about to try to repair a new product.

The whole assembly was much flimsier than I anticipated. I WOULD NOT TRUST THIS CAGE to protect our cockatiel from our cat. A cat or dog could easily bend the wires or tip the whole cage to the floor and cause the plastic clips to break. Were that to happen, the whole base would fall right off of the wire unit.

I returned the cage unused. I now realize that I'm not going to find a sturdy cage for under $200. Even our tiny new cockatiel will get a cage worthy of our Amazon parrot.

I got this for my pit who is a little bit of a brat when it comes for corrections. Her metal collar never seemed to stay where I needed it to. Lee's Protein Skimmer Counter Current, Medium

Do not let the bad reviews fool you. Protein skimmers are not electronics gadgets or any advance technology, so why are the average skimmers on the market running for about 80-100 dollars? I read a few reviews about Lee's protein skimmer and the results were mixed. I nervously decided to give it a shot and when I received the product from "petsolutions" I realized the poor quality of the product. The piping and tubing does not fit tightly so it takes a while to get it right. I ran one aerator and split it into two lines but realized after a day that the skimmer did not produce anything. Then I experimented around and surprisingly I began to have bacterial/junk products in the collection cup.

HERE IS the SECRET-

your going to need to buy two aerators-

1) for the current going down

1) for the Lee's wooden bubbler

Then your going to need to turn on the down current line first and let that run for about a minute to create a down current.

Then you turn on the wooden bubbler line and create an upward current.

This will basically cause the downward current to meet with the upward "air pockets/bubbles" to meet and any molecules will be trapped within the aure bubbles and rise to the top of the canister and into the collection cup.

It will definetly take a few tries but BOTTOM LINE THE PRODUCT DOES SKIM!!

I have a 30 gallon tank with 2 clowns, 1 spiny box, 3 anemones and the only running on a hang on filter with the skimmer and my water quality is crystal clear.

I took a stupid risk with the skimmer and I actually got it to work and I hope the best of luck for others.

I was a little hesitant about buying it because there were mixed reviews about the item. It is easy to setup and once you follow the directions ON THE BOX it will remove the toxins from your water. I had it running for about 3 hours after receiving it and there was already brown mucky skimmate in the collection cup. The trick is to have the downflow on first before turning on the airstone so the bubbles mix more with the water. Also there is a line telling you where the bubbles are supposed to be, and where the water level is supposed to be. I highly recommend this product.

Very easy to set up, started working for me almost immediately, need to order a separate air pump, I only use one pump (Tetra whisper for 40 gal) for my Lees skimmer and it works great. Simple technology with almost no moving parts to worry about breaking. Would definitely recommend for a starter skimmer. I have it in a 45 gal tank and it does great!

Pieces are loosely assembled and took some effort to get the skimmer properly placed in tank since pieces did not fit tightly.

I did a little research and found that Bettas like to rest on leaves....I did a little more searching and found that there are certain leaves and plants they like better than others. I was told that this one was a good product for the fish so I ordered it. I thought it would be a little bigger when it arrived, and it did have a funky smell. We cleaned it numerous times to rid it of the smell and stuck it in his tank. To this day he avoids it so we removed it. It's an okay fake plant, but I wouldn't buy it again.
