Marineland (Aquaria) AMLPR3410 Aquarium Hood with Lamp Base Replacement Assembly for Eclipse Power

We purchased this replacement cover for an Eclipse 12 freshwater home aquarium. The Eclipse 12 is what many wold consider a modest "desktop" sized aquarium that is great for home or office, and especially great for kids. Well, the hinged lid on the Eclipse we had broke, as did the built in light.

We purchased this new hood with lamp base to keep out Eclipse 12 running. This unit is well made, and we were happy to get a light that could work again, as the other died as a result of calcium deposits ( typical with hard water, no fault of the product).

Everything was great, until we realized this hood assembly did not come with a lid to keep the fish from jumping out of the tank! The Eclipse 12 came with a lid, but it brokeso we were expecting this replacement to have the lid already in it. NOPE.

This product is well made and works fine, but lacking that lidI just don't get it....it's a $2.00 plastic part that should ABSOLUTELY be part of this package for the price! If you are in need of a lid too, be aware that you will have to find one separately. We have been unable to locate one as of yet!!

Given that fact that this is not a standard hood size makes this tank undesirable. The filtration system is good, but the hood design is the worst. The light goes out a lot and the bulbs are $12 each. The little flap to feed the fish is a strange shape and right over the carbon filter so half the time you end up feeding the filter instead of the fish and it gets messy. I think I paid $89 at the local shop for the tank, but the hood system itself is $35 to replace.

I would stick with the standard size aquariums with the standard hoods and pay extra for a fluval filtration system and nice skimmer. I'm reconsidering replacing the tank instead of buying the new hood system.

The tank is pleasing to look at and is bright, though.

When our original lamp broke (poor design cover cracked and moisture gets in) I ordered this. While it works, it is still a poor design and I'm sure will break again within a year or so. Plus, this doesn't fit the tank quite the same as the original and now the tank has calcium/lime build up all down the sides of the tank an d not just the lid.

AA Aquarium 3 Watt Mini Green Killing Machine Internal UV Sterilizer-AAUV3W

Over the past few months I have added pressurized CO2 to two of my planted aquariums, and the result has been significant plant growth, however, quite a bit more algae growth as well.

As such, green water has become an issue when it never was before.

The pressurized CO2 goes a long way to adding to this problem, and I wish that the companies that sell pressurized CO2 systems to fishkeepers and aquascapers, would tell their customers to expect that the additional CO2 in an aquarium also results in more nutrients and green water.

And moreover, that adding a uv sterilizer to an aquarium is the only sure way of getting rid of both green and murky water.

I have been using the AA Green Killing Machine Mini 3 watt unit for the past few days, and in conjunction with my Vortex D-1 diatom filter, the Mini has my 20 gallon aquarium's water sparkling.

The Killing Machine is cheaply made, however, it is very well thought out, with its integrated adjustable powerhead and separate plug for both the powerhead and uv sterilizer.

This means that once you have removed the green water from your aquarium, you can turn the uv sterilizer portion of the AA Mini off until the water starts getting murky again, in order to conserve its bulb.

And you can continue to use the power head portion of the Mini to circulate your water.

I also like the fact that the Mini is fairly compact, unlike the 9 and 24 watt AA Green Killing Machines; both of which are much larger and appear ungainly in an aquarium.

Overall, this is a worthwhile product that does its job at a very affordable price.

The replacement bulbs are expensive though, given that you also purchase the housing unit for the bulb as well as the bulb itself, in order to have a tight seal.

With the wires on the Mini in your aquarium, you want to make certain that the water seal is perfect.

Moreover, even though AA says that the bulb on the Mini is only good for 3 to 6 months, if you only use it from time to time, you may get several years out of it before having to replace the bulb.

Given the cost of a powerhead that circulates 100 gallons of water per hour, The AA Mini is a bargain, with both a powerhead and uv sterilizer in one compact unit for about the price of just a powerhead.

It is also nice to be able to unplug the uv sterilizer while being able to keep the powerhead going all the time.

I usually just pour a small amount of plant fertilizer in front of the AA Mini's powerhead and it circulates the liquid fertilizer better than just pouring it into the tank itself.

I highly recommend this product. It is a very good value.

UPDATE 8/13/2012: I'm upping my review to four stars. I'm giving it more stars because the vendor corrected the product description (see below) and what is listed now describes a very solid product for what it's supposed to do. I'm not giving it five because the two plugs are actually kinda annoying. If the amount of plugs isn't a concern for you though you should DEFINATELY buy this product to control algae. Simly stated it works!

I actually like this product quite a bit. The unit is compact, quiet, and keeps my tank water clear of algae. And yet I gave it only two stars. Why? In the description it says "Requires no tubing; Has one plug to operate both the UV sterilizer and filtration pump." Well, they're half right. The unit has two plugs, one for the pump and one for the UV sterilizer bulb. I ordered it because I only had limited plug-ins available and didn't want to clutter the back of my tank with yet another extension cord.

This machine cleared my 10 gallon tank within 5 days. I turned it off and the water has stayed clear over a week. Before using this, my 6 week old tank had turned green and was hardly getting better despite more partial water changes. At the greenest, one of my two goldfish got sick and died. I know algae generally aren't harmful to fish, so I wonder if there was a bad bacteria also. This machine supposedly also reduces bacteria in the water. Either way, it looked too green. I avoided anti-algae chemical treatments because have live plants. My only complaint is that I can't find anywhere to buy replacement bulbs. The bulb is estimated to last 3-6 months if constantly on, so hopefully if I only have use it occasionally, it should last much longer.

We had a fish tank for 2 years but one day the water turned green and looked like green koolaid. After changing the water we had a few fish die but the water was clear. Then the green started coming back about a week later. I got this thinking if it saved just a few fish in a water change it would be worth the price. We have a 30 gallon tank and after about a week the water was clear. Ones the water cleared up I stop running it 24/7 to try and save the UV bulb.

The only problem I have seen in the few months I have had it is the water flow speed nob is stuck and will not turn.

I can't complain, after about 5 days my fluval chi is crystal clear, finally! I replaced the old light on this tank with a much brighter one and ever since the algae has just taken over ( as well as the plants ). I wasn't too happy about how big this thing was, it kinda freaked the beta out putting it in my 6.6 gallon tank but it was worth it as the water is crisp and clear now. Kind of pricey but well worth the convenience of not coming home to a cloudy green tank and doing a water change every few days.

I was going on vacation for 10 days, and thought about everything except how to feed my finicky fish while I was gone. My immediate thought was to go down to Walmart and pick up the first cheap fish feeders I saw, the problem is my custom fish tank has a weird rim that doesn't allow for the clip on fish feeder sold there.

After reading several reviews, I decided to go with the Eheim, but was then worried that it wouldn't be delivered before I had to leave. Thankfully Amazon sent this to me with plenty of time to spare. The customizable feeding settings were much more accomodating than I expected. With several ways to attach it to an aqaurium, I was easily able to attach it to mine. And, the double feeding compartments allowed me to maintain their alternating diet with ease.

Still a little worried, I came back from my vacation expecting to see a couple floaters but thankfully I was wrong. Everyone of them are still alive and well, so it goes without saying that if you're as attached to your fish as I am, I would HIGHLY recommend this feeder thank you Amazon.

This feeder is only for large aquariums with lots of fish because the smallest amount of food dumped in the water is great (for about 15 big fish at least !!!!)

I used this to keep my large Oscar, large Plecostomus, and Bichir alive for 3 weeks while I took a trip to Europe. One side had my large Oscar pellets which float, while the other side was filled shrimp pellets which sink. When I got back from my 3 week trip, my fish were still alive and doing well.

The digital display is nice because you can tell it is on and running. Now that I am back from vacation, I only wish it reported if it worked okay. I sometimes have seen error messages indicating a problem and that the screw needed to be cleared. However, I don't know how long those error messages stay there. It would be nice if I could look at the LCD sometime within the hour it activates to see a message that it activated properly. The fish eat the food quickly, so I am left wondering if they got fed okay.

One thing I had to do was cut a plastic cup to form a funnel to make sure the pellets dropped into the aquarium and not spilled outside of it. It would be nice if the item came with some kind of funnel setup that could be cut with scissors to fit most applications. If I could make a funnel tall enough, I would mount this on top of my lighting fixture. The way I have it setup now, the light fixture had to be moved forward on the aquarium top. This keeps me from being able to lift the lid to add food manually without removing the automatic feeder and moving the light fixture back toward the rear.

Also, the device tends to push out a lot of food. I have it on its lowest setting, which is suitable but almost too much food.

In any case, this automatic feeder did what it needed to do while I was on vacation.

We use all of the Instant Ocean gel foods to vary our fish family's diet. This is truly a favorite of our 2 lionfish. They seem to wait to eat until this gel pack is used more so than the others when I use 2 different packs at the same time during feedings. Pros: Glass aquarium is easier to clean, surface won't scratch like acrylic tanks.

10 gallon tank is long & narrower than bow front, size & shape good for guppies.

Penguin bio wheel filtration system better power, quiet, easier to clean, replace

filter cartriges.

LED lighting system is better than light bulb in acrylic tanks. Freedom to select from

sliding switch at top for bright white light, blue lights & lights off. Improvement

over push button that easily malfunctioned on the bow front tanks.

With small fish like guppies, there is enough room in tank for bottom gravel &

plants, decorations.

Cons: Glass tanks are heavier, I purchased a wooden shelf-stand, put stand together myself,

supports 10+ gallon tank.

Problems with water splashing into the LED light hood unit. Penguin filter splashes

some water up into the hood, same with bubble stone. LED unit isn't 100% protected

from water droplets even though there is a thin acylic plate between water surface &

LED light unit. My LED unit was water damaged. Disconnected LED unit, allowed it to

dry out, eventually LED worked again though not as bright. This LED unit is expensive

to replace. Should I have placed an extra layer of protection, like a piece of plastic

wrap between the thin plastic plate & the LED light unit?

Is it possible to open up the LED light unit & clean inside to restore lights to

original brightness? Opening up light unit would probably void the warranty though.

Right now I can't afford to replace the LED light unit for this tank. Instead I have

to keep the water level lower than normal to keep water splashes from getting up to the

acrylic plate. And, sadly, can't enjoy bubble stone due to water splashing into LED

unit. I will attempt to work out these problems myself.

Subtracted the one star from this 10 gallon aquarium due to water splashing up into the hood & potential damages to the LED light unit.

Yes, I would buy this company's glass aquariums again, possibly add another glass tank in future, however, I would find a way to resolve the problem with the LED light unit & hood.

This is a great kit...LED lighting, bio-wheel, heater. I have 1 betta, 2 corycats, and 2 otocinclus residing in this little community. I only had to add a bubbler and of course plants, etc. For the price, it is a great starter tank...or like me...a great tank to place on your sturdy night stand so you can sleep with the sound of water! My fish are very happy!

Zoo Med 12 Inch Tropic Sun Flourescent Bulb (T8 STD Output)

I wanted to like this light since my last bulb only lasted for a month and I thought this one might have a longer life. I can not speak to its lifespan since I just got it (locally)and do not plan to keep it. This lamp gives my tank a very yellow/green look that I don't care for at all. It is so obvious that my 3 year old said the tank was green. I do not have live plants in my tank, if I did and was looking to show them off, this would be a good light. However, my fish look more dull than they did with my previous 8000k light. I will be buying either the Aqueon Color Max or the Aqueon daylight bulb.

This makes my tank look a little yellow and my fish aren't as pretty. That being said, my plants look great! they have been suffering for a while, but now they all look fabulous. I swap this bulb out for my old one if I know I am having guests, but normally keep this one on.

Installed and have very good light. Needed new starters !1.97 for two at Lowe's. But that was my light fixture. Once replaced the light was beautiful and my fish in my 100 gallon are as happy as can be. Will order again in a year or so. Will only leave more feedback if they don't last for that long but I bet they do.

When I purchased this I was specifically shopping for a "dangly toy on stick" that I could drag around for my cat, who loves to "hunt" anything long and stringy. Sometimes after "catching" the toy, he will carry it off in his mouth to his "lair" (inside of a closet). It's hysterical to see him dragging it around like it's real prey.

What I like most about this toy:

1. The "stick" is short relative to the "dangly" part, which means the cat has more to play with. On other "dangly toy on stick" toys, the part available to the cat to actually play with is quite short relative to the stick.

2. The toy appears very well made (in America no less!) and the dangly part seems very securely fastened to the stick. I have heard of other such toys where the cat was able to pull off the toy part from the stick.

3. The dangly part is not just a string/piece of ribbon attached to a stick. The fabric is folded over so it is 2 sided and is tapered to a "point" at the end. The kind and cut of fabric means that when you move it from side to side, the dangly part moves sort of like a snake. A plain old piece of string or ribbon doesn't do that.

As someone else stated this toy does require supervision. The company has indicated as much on the tag that comes attached to the toy, clearly stating that cats should NOT be allowed to chew on it. In fact, no cat should ever, ever be left alone with any kind of string-shaped toy.

We always put this toy away in a place well out of my cat's reach when he has finished playing with it.

This is a nice tank as small tanks go. It's barely big enough for a betta in my opinion, but much better than a bowl. The quality of the glass is nice. However, my tank was not glued together quite straight, and had a slight wobble. It arrived with a small crack in the bottom edge that protruded, so I had to place it on a slab of cushy rubber to use it.

The light fixture looks good and does not stand out as much as I thought it would. However, the blue-white bulb burned out after just a few months of running 8 hrs/day. Also, any water touching the plastic light supports that sit over the tank edge will somehow wick up over the glass edge to drip down the outside, flooding whatever it sits on. You have to be careful not to fill the water too high.

The hob filter is adequate. Being a small filter, it clogs easily. However, as long as you keep it clean, it does a good job, and is pretty silent. I cushioned mine with silicone bumpers to reduce vibration on the tank.

Exotic Environments Great Spire Bridge Aquarium Ornament

If you are looking for a castle with purple accents (which we were as it's my daughter's fave color), then this isn't the castle for you. The picture looked almost exactly like we wanted, but it arrived today and to our dismay it's actually blue (see my customer image). However, it's what we wanted otherwise: perfect size for our 3 gallon tank, hiding place/pathways for our beta, and the details in the design are really cool. Unfortunately, now we have to change our entire color scheme to match the castle, but we do love it enough to keep it and to not keep hunting for another one:).

This brand of aquarium decorations is the best I've purchased. They are colorful, sturdy and provide excellent hiding places for betas. I have two betas, one in each tank of course, and they play hide and seek with each other. The description and measurements are spot on. i ordered this collar for my golden puppy who is 7 months and about 55 pounds, having excess collar was ideal and it fit well. this collar is not something that should be left on a dog when not on a walk, not like a normal quick release collar that can be left on all the time. no choke chain should ever be left on a dog full time actually. anyways, this collar is pretty sturdy and simple and more humane than a metal choke. works great!

I got this for my Bernese Mountain Dog. I use a pinch collar on him (don't judge me you don't know him). Pinch collars have a tendency to pull apart at the worse times. I got this in case that very thing happened, which has happened on more than one occasion. I can now walk him without that fear that his collar will collapse and he will run away. It seems very well made and fits nicely around his head. Just hook both collars and away we go !

I followed directions but it didnt do a thing to the newly formed scale. i went through the whole bottle in short order with no results. I switched to vinegar and it worked. I chose the I don't like it rating because it did not solve my white scaling problem. I used it

in a fountain consisting of a brown pot that overflowed with water and also with a small pond with a waterfall

feature. It did not clean up the white deposits that were there after being in operation for only 2 weeks. It also

is not preventing the formation of new deposits. I followed the instructions on the bottle.

doesn't do what it says...........................bought it for my indoor fountain, and unfortunately nothing still ha scale and i changed water three times used [product as noted....... disappointing!

I purchased this item to help get the nitrogen cycle started in a new 45 gallon freshwater aquarium which had been running for about two weeks with small amounts of food added. I followed the dosing instructions for Microbe Lift and added a couple of fish the next day. I tested daily for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.

Ammonia levels continued to rise and there were no detectable levels of nitrite or nitrate after a week, necessitating a water change.

On the recommendation of more experienced fish keepers, I decided to switch to Tetra SafeStart for a bacteria boost. Immediately after adding the SafeStart, ammonia stabilized at a tolerable level and within three days I began seeing nitrates rising. The tank was fully cycled within 10 days.

Microbe Lift was not as effective as Tetra SafeStart in controlling ammonia levels and providing beneficial bacteria. It also has a strong unpleasant sulfide odor which the packaging says is normal. I tried to start my aquarium using this stuff and it didn't do anything I tested it for 5 weeks using a previous bottle I purchased and nothing. I have been doing the start with no fish just adding a bit of food and also adding amonia pure amonia. Nothing registered on Nitrites or nitrates. The amonia registered though at 1ppm

This stuff is garbage imho

This stuff comes with an odor warning, and man does it smell. I don't know about how much bacteria it contained or if it even helped much. My system did seem to cycle faster once I'd added it. I wouldn't go this route again.

Oceanic 36015 BioCube HQI Aquarium, 29-Gallon

I have had this since May 2012 and use it as a Saltwater, Fish only tank and it has really been hard to maintain. I have to wipe it down every day because salt accumulates all over it, especially at the seams and you can forget keeping the glass cover clean. I have already had to replace the protein skimmer. The original one didn't stop working it just didn't work well enough. In fairness, this may be easier to maintain as a freshwater tank, but I regret the purchase and wish I had just gotten a larger tank that would hold more than 3 or 4 fish to make the maintenance work while. Probably could maintain a 55 gal. at the same cost with the same or even less maintenance. I have to use additional fans to keep the temperature at an acceptable level, the light emits a lot of heat even with the fans it holds. With this size tank the temperature fluctuates at the least change in environmental temperature, even small temporary change.

I have had my hqi for a month now, and i am very impressed how easy it is to keep corals and fish. I would recommend a couple power heads for it though

Seachem Purigen 1 Liter

This is the first product out of many I have tried to really keep the aquarium absolutely crystal clear. This also reduces the number of water changes I was doing. You do have to change filter every two weeks though and replenish the purigen which is reusable.

this is one of the few filter media i've found to actually suck up tannins (from driftwood) out of the water. It's gradual and takes time, but water test results speak for themselves. Very fine, and must use special filter bag.

Purigen is amazing. We have red ear slider turtles that create quite a messy tank. They are in a 125 gallon tank and 1 mesh bag of purigen in the filter clears the water to an amazing crystal clear. It can be regenerated & works over & over again! It is incredible how clear the water gets using Purigen. For fish tanks and less messy tanks (turtles being among the messiest) this will make for crystal clear water for months! Highly recommend!

The first time I picked this up my fish went crazy. We have a porch pond with koi, shubunkins and comets. It appears that they like the slow sink of the discs.
