Coralife Energy Savers ACLAF9550 Trap-Em Bristle Worm Trap

Coralife Energy Savers ACLAF9550 Trap-Em Bristle Worm Trap3 months ago I bought nice coral but few days after that I've notice few little guys crawling around it...after doing my research it appeared to be a bristle worm..some people would tell that's good for you and these worms are great scavengers but for me they look really creepy :) so I decided to buy a banded shrimp which didn't work out at all and last nigh I saw 1 bristle worm in my aquarium 10'' long and almost had a hearth attack :)..Today I went to the Aquarium Store to get six line wrasse and arrow crab but end up buying Trap Em Bristle Worm Trap.

I sat it up right after coming back from the store and after 5 minutes I got the first one around 5''...after 30 minutes the big one 10'' tried to get to the bite but couldn't fit into the hole :) but it was enough to pull him out...that's a big relief that this trap actually worked even in day time...

Thanks "Coralife"..you saved the day for me :)

If you have bristle worm I'm sure it'll help you to at least reducing the number of these guys..if you wanna keep them that's fine but they're growing really fast and to really big size...I'd rather stay with my hermit crabs and snails doing my clean-up job...

Good Luck.

I was a bit skeptical when I first was researching these bristle worm traps, but I quickly changed my mind. My tank was being taken over by bristle worms. They were coming out at all times of the day and night. They were everywhere. We tried getting a banded shrimp which ate a few but not even close to the amount we needed it too. Just using this trap less than 10 times, I have caught more than 100 worms. The directions tell you to leave the trap in all night, but I found that the worms just find their way out after an hour or so. I put the trap in with the bait, and watch the worms travel into the tube. After about 15 minutes I take the tube out and move it to a different spot in the tank. It works like a charm!

I would recommend this bristle worm trap to anyone!

Conceptually the design of the trap is sound and it does work. However, apparently it works best when placed within 1 inch of a suspected Bristle worm habitate. So far I've captured 3 or 4 worms in the trap. Most are small, less than 1/2 inch long, the largest worm I've trapped so far was about 2.5 inches long. The bait included with the trap is dried brine shrimp, which does not seem to attract the worms as quickly as using bait such as sliversides, fresh shrimp, or bits of scallop. While it is true that the more industrious could make a homemade trap that will work as well if not better, this isn't a complete waste of time for those who don't want to mess around with homebuilt traps.

Exotic Environments Shipwreck Aquarium Ornament

Exotic Environments Shipwreck Aquarium Ornamentthe ship looks great on my 72 bow front tank i set my tank with two of these and it look great

I haven't actually placed it in a tank yet but after receiving it I wanted to say something about it. There is a small part of a bow mast that protrudes over the figurehead. It was chipped into at least three pieces. Two of which I found and reattached with glue. Judging by the appearence of the part after I glued what pieces I had to it, I could still tell that there was another small piece, nowhere to be found. Overall it still looks really nice. I'm sure someone not knowing what to look for will not notice that the front is chipped. Afterall it IS a shipwreck :) My catfish will enjoy the large holes and spacious interior to hide in.

Zoo Med Floating Dock Mini for 5 Gallon Tanks

Zoo Med Floating Dock Mini for 5 Gallon TanksThe Good:

Turtle liked ability to get out of water. Self-leveling feature kept dock level with water changes.

The Bad:

Dock tended to grow greenish algae that stained. Attempts to wash helped somewhat, but high effort. Dock had a finish on the bottom that came off in chunks. Turtle decided he preferred the dock to his turtle bone for gnawing purposes, leaving chunks of plasticky (is that a word?) crap floating around the tank. I can't imagine that is healthy for him.

Musings: Get a big flat rock that slopes. It looks better, your turtle will like it better, the finish won't come off, and any rocky field is a potential source. It will also retain the heat from a heat lamp, leading to praise from your turtle!

This Zoo Med floating turtle dock is a very nice and realistic looking addition to our "turtle-quarium". It's well made and looks like a real piece of driftwood or rock in a river bed. Our turtle loves it and there is enough room on it for him to turn any way he wants for "sunning/basking" himself.

Hagen Elite 2-Way Air Control Valve

Hagen Elite 2-Way Air Control ValveNot the product I expected it to be. The control valve is very stiff and hard to turn, the frame that holds the control valves can sometime dismantle the control valve while turning the valve cause how stiff the valves are and is very sensitive

Does its job but mines came cracked, but i still used it the knobs however are really stiff and you just dont have a nice range of bubbles if your seeking to power a fry tank. i tried adjusting it but its either more than you want or less. does its job but not the best, took me awhile to find a decent air flow.

Marineland NJ400 Maxi-Jet Submersible Utility Pump, 7-Watt, 106 GPH

Marineland NJ400 Maxi-Jet Submersible Utility Pump, 7-Watt, 106 GPHSo far, the pump is working, but mainly I wanted to confirm that it is a good replacement for the pumps inside the Tetrafauna Viquarim because they fit the waterfall cavity and have an equivalent gph flow rate.

I have 3 vivariums (half land/half water) tanks for various newts and salamanders. I use the Tetrafauna Viquarium for each of them because gravel is a great biological filter as long as you change water consistently, but I found that the little pumps that came with the viquarium unit sometimes stopped working temporarily because they take in any debris that finds its way into the base of the artificial waterfall. Two of them have always started up again, but in one case the pump just burned out.

When I looked at the Tetrafauna site for replacement pumps, it was clear that they do not sell them, which is a strange oversight. Also, Tetrafauna did not readily answer their phone after I stayed on hold for a little too long, but I noticed that they did provide some information on the website, plugging this small Marineland pump as a good replacement. I want to confirm that it is true that this product fits into the artificial waterfall portion and does the job (so far) as well as the original pump that came with the viquarium kit.

This unit is excellent, been running it in my Aquarium connected to my UV and it does not heat, sound or stops.

If everything was made this way it would be a sweet world

Como Aquarium Artificial Movable Tail Swimming Fish 5 Pcs

Como Aquarium Artificial Movable Tail Swimming Fish 5 PcsThese little fish are just a blast; my husband has a small aquarium but didn't want real fish in it. I got him these fish for Christmas and everyone just loves them! One had a mis-shapen tail and didn't move well, so we got rid of it. But the rest bob up and down and move with the water. Very, very entertaining!

I got these fish for a disabled friend, who cannot care for a live one. I thought that they would be weighted differently, so that they would float at different levels. In the tank with the air bubbles, or still water, they stuck together on the top like a wet blanket. These would be suitable for the mind of a 2-year-old, but he would surely choke on the cheap plastic. No use for anybody, young or old. RIP OFF!!

Carib Sea ACS01920 Ocean Direct Oolite Sand for Aquarium, 20-Pound, 2 Per Case

Carib Sea ACS01920 Ocean Direct Oolite Sand for Aquarium, 20-Pound, 2 Per CaseThis is great sand for burrowing creatures, I was able to put this right into my water because it's in a new tank. This sand is very find, it's almost like silt or clay, so it's very messy at first. When you first add it, be careful of it clogging your filters, fans, and power heads. It will also take a couple days to settle. Once it does you'll need to clean your glass, but be careful not to stir up too much sand.

This item is listed as a 20 lb 2 pack, but it is not. You just get 20 lbs for the price. The sand itself is a great white color, with very fine smooth particles. VERY FINE. Seems like it would be great for sand sifters and things like that. It does say there are live bacteria in it, but I can't speak to that since I put the sand in my upgraded tank with my pre-cycled live rock.

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Tubing 4004943 3m/9.8ft

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Tubing 4004943 3m/9.8ftOEM Eheim 494 tubing with original Eheim package. It's fit perfectly with all pipes and will buy from PetCareRX again if needed.

I'v relied on eheim products for over 30 years. Their products are second to none regarding quality, longevity and performance. Extra tubing is one of those affordable essentials that any serious Aquarist should keep on hand as it comes in handy for a multitude of purposes.

You can extend the run of tubing from your filters if need be, add extensions to other other products and perhaps the most important and valuable benefit is that it's opaque and easy to see when your tubin mucks up with gunk. Having extra tubing on hand allows you to replace the old tubing with brand new tubing and hault the entry of pathogens and muck into your tank or tanks.

This is an excellent price for 10 feet of eheim OEM tubing just make sure you're ordring the right size.

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Mag - Drive 7 Water Pump (700Gph)

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Mag - Drive 7 Water PumpWorked perfect for my 72 gallon saltwater tank.

Used it for my refugium.very silent and powerful .perfect for a 72 gallon tank

Correct, the picture does not look exactly like the item (google Danner Supreme MagDrive 7 for actual photos and price comparison). Easily places in-sump for underwater delivery. For optimal flow, it is suggested to connect the outlet to a 1/2"-to-1" pvc adapter, making the return line 1" in diameter instead. This pump does make some vibration noise, which was easily minimized by taking aquarium grade clear silicone and simply making a 'web' of lines underneath for form a cushion of silicone to sit on.

Cat Dancer 301 Cat Charmer Interactive Cat Toy

Cat Dancer 301 Cat Charmer Interactive Cat ToyMy cats are fat. They needed excersize. Before we got this toy, the only thing that got them moving was the sound of us in the kitchen, or running away from the vaccuum cleaner. It was sad.

Now, they can't get enough of this great toy! They run and leap, falling over each other to get to the soft ribbon swishing over their heads. It's completely adorable, and we're glad to finally see them being active, and having fun ~ :)

We used to spend so much money on cat toys it was absurd. This is the LAST one I will ever buy for a cat. I bought six for Christmas gifts for friends with feline friends, and they all agree THIS IS THE #1 Cat Toy of the Millenium. Seriously. My cat loves it, drags it around the house and gets the best, healthiest exercise of anything we've ever tried. It has a clear plastic wand that I've stepped on a zillion times and it does not break. The rubber that holds the material on KEEPS the material on it, no matter what. It's sturdy and the colors make it easy to find on the carpets. Turn your adult cat into a kitten again. I am ordering THREE today more gifts for friends and a back-up for my girl. I sent four to Belgium as gifts, also. THEY LOVE THEM IN EUROPE!

Buy Cat Dancer 301 Cat Charmer Interactive Cat Toy Now

I first saw this in a shelter and the kitties there loved it. I later purchased one for the cat I adopted. In our first 15 minutes of play, I turned my back and less than 2 minutes later, 6 inches were missing. I looked everywhere and was certain she'd eaten it. Took her to the emergency vet right away.

Although others have posted that their cats were able to pass it, our cat required surgery to remove it from her intestines.

Please be sure to supervise your cat's play (as stated in the instructions which, yes, I had read).

cats love this toy, of course. mine loved it too much and would drag it around day and night until i came home one day and saw that she had eaten most of it the ribbon.

luckily she puked it up two days later and we didn't have to take her to the vet, but it could've been bad.

don't assume your cat won't eat it too. just keep it in a drawer and take it out at playtime.

Want Cat Dancer 301 Cat Charmer Interactive Cat Toy Discount?

When I purchased this I was specifically shopping for a "dangly toy on stick" that I could drag around for my cat, who loves to "hunt" anything long and stringy. Sometimes after "catching" the toy, he will carry it off in his mouth to his "lair" (inside of a closet). It's hysterical to see him dragging it around like it's real prey.

What I like most about this toy:

1. The "stick" is short relative to the "dangly" part, which means the cat has more to play with. On other "dangly toy on stick" toys, the part available to the cat to actually play with is quite short relative to the stick.

2. The toy appears very well made (in America no less!) and the dangly part seems very securely fastened to the stick. I have heard of other such toys where the cat was able to pull off the toy part from the stick.

3. The dangly part is not just a string/piece of ribbon attached to a stick. The fabric is folded over so it is 2 sided and is tapered to a "point" at the end. The kind and cut of fabric means that when you move it from side to side, the dangly part moves sort of like a snake. A plain old piece of string or ribbon doesn't do that.

As someone else stated this toy does require supervision. The company has indicated as much on the tag that comes attached to the toy, clearly stating that cats should NOT be allowed to chew on it. In fact, no cat should ever, ever be left alone with any kind of string-shaped toy.

We always put this toy away in a place well out of my cat's reach when he has finished playing with it.

Penn Plax Cascade 300 GPH Power Filter

Penn Plax Cascade 300 GPH Power FilterAfter researching a number of different filters for my 20-gallon gourami tank, I decided to give this one a try. It is designed with function in mind, including an adequate system of bio-filtration and flow control. Flow control, though simple in design, is a nice feature to have that is sadly lacking on many HOB filters. This feature was important to me as gouramis are labyrinth fish who prefer slow-moving water, and I wanted the ability to adjust the flow, if necessary.

One reason I hesitated to invest in this filter is that, although the filter itself is very reasonably priced, the replacement filter cartridges are somewhat expensive. Fortunately, the size of the intake tube is just right to use one of these pre-filters: Pre-Filter Sponge 3 Pack for Fluval Edge Aquarium This increases the biological filtration even more while filtering small particles before they ever enter the filter itself. I simply rinse the pre-filter in aquarium water ever two weeks or so and replace the filter cartridge once a month, since activated carbon expires monthly. Rinsing the pre-filter is an easy step, since this has an extendable intake tube, making it easy to detach the endpiece from the filter itself without having to actually pull the sponge off the intake every time. The filter even continues to run while I do this, as long as the end of the intake is submersed. As an added bonus, my flower shrimp loves to eat the particles of food that collect on the sponge, and as a filter feeder, she enjoys the luxury of hanging on the intake to make use of the flow without the danger of being harmed by the filter intake. Meanwhile, between some tinkering with the flow control and the addition of the sponge, the flow itself is weak enough to not upset my male/female pair of gouramis, who are able to blow bubble nests and engage in spawning behavior. Even though this is only a 20-gallon tank, the flower shrimp, clown pleco and mystery snails have their own space, and the gouramis have theirs. Having a sponge pre-filter and flow control also benefits the live plants in my tank, especially the java fern, which proliferates easily and abundantly, but often can be damaged by filter intakes when the young ferns float about the tank before finding a piece of driftwood or other material where they can grow.

In terms of reliability, I have run this filter steadily for four months as of the writing of this review, and, used in conjunction with some additional sponge filters, this has proven itself to be reliable. It is self-priming and consistently restarts automatically following a power outage. It even runs steadily during a partial water change, and the 'Bio-Falls' system seems to provide additional aeration for the water, which is important not only for providing oxygen for my water-breathing creatures, but helps remove toxic substances, which benefits all of the creatures in my tank, including the air-breathing gouramis.

To conclude, I will provide a brief list of pros and cons:

PROS:

1. It is inexpensive

2. It is effective in terms of mechanical, chemical, and biological filtration

3. It is reliable and self-priming

4. It fits the inexpensive Fluval sponge pre-filters

5. It has flow control

CONS:

1. Replacement cartridges are not easily found in stores

2. Replacement cartridges are expensive (but this can be easily addressed by using an inexpensive sponge pre-filter, extending the cartridge life to at least a full month)

I purchased this filter to replace the cheap starter filter that came with my aquarium. The problem with my original filter was the lack of a bio sponge, so that every time I replaced the filter medium, ammonia levels would rise while the new filter grew bacteria, resulting in the nitrite spike when the bacteria finally caught up. I don't know whether this filter would actually handle a 50 gallon aquarium, but on a 20 gallon aquarium, cloudy water and detectable levels of ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite have become a thing of the past.

When I initially set up the filter it was a bit noisy, but after removing and reinstalling the impeller it ran with an almost indiscernible hum. The bio falls booster has the additional side effect of slowing the water on the way out of filter so that it reenters the aquarium less violently than my previous filter despite pumping twice as much water. This helps the filter run quietly with no splashing if your water level is adjusted properly.

The activated carbon filter is unique in that it is broken into a number of cells that each contain activated carbon. As a result, more of water flowing through the filter is exposed to the carbon without sacrificing ease of a slide-in cartridge.

I have only two criticisms of this filter. First, the flow of the carbon cartridge should have been made higher, as there is a small amount of overflow even when this cartridge is new if the filter flow is adjusted to the maximum setting. Second, most of the noticeable noise from the filter comes from the vibration of the lid. This can be overcome by running without the lid, or by using a small piece of tape. This vibration made me question the build quality of an otherwise excellent filter.

The cascade 100 hang on aquarium filter is an excellent choice for your filtration system. It has the bio-sponge for beneficial bacteria and the waterfall release also grows benefical bac. for your fish. Very quiet and hangs perfectly on my tall hex-aquarium. Overall I love this filter. Just make sure you do your water changes and filter changes on opposite weeks. You will kill some benefical bacterica when you do either. But the other will suffice till new bacteria grows.

Marineland LED Aquarium Hood

Marineland LED Aquarium Hood 30 by 12I was satisfied with this product. the light quality is bright and crisp. i have always had florescent bulbs, and will say that this light seems superior. sufficiently bright, and good fish colors. the night light ('moon light') feature is cool too, and nice since we like to leave it on in the kitchen when we sleep, to guide us to late night snacks ;) BUT MAKE SURE YOU MEASURE YOUR FILTER! there is only ONE slot in the back and it measures approx 6.5" x 2.5" (measurements i could not find anywhere online!! so hope this helps you). my filter is 7" wide, so i had to take scissors and cut the plastic (kind of hard to do, but i was able to get it with some effort, and maybe scarified the scissors). and ONE hole means no space for a heater (unless you have a fully submersible kind, or dont care about using one, or are fine cutting more holes in the hood). i just dont use a heater, so that didnt bother me. as others mentioned having no spot to feed the fish can be annoying, but really, just lifting the lid (its hinged) is really not a big deal. overall, i considered the problems not that bothersome, and enjoy the light quality enough to ignore the annoyances.

In general I like the clarity and brightness of LED lighting, but I have to admit that I am not sure whether I can say I like it in the fish tank. My old flourescent hood provided a warmer light than this LED hood does, even though the mixing of blue LEDs in with the white was meant to tone down the light. I do like the night or "moonlight" mode which just uses the 3 blue LEDs. This offers my fish a good transitional period between day and complete dark.

At first, I really liked the low-profile look of the hood. I thought it was kind of cool that the whole hood hinged upwards when you opend it and attached directly to the tank instead of just resting on top of it. I quickly came to the conclusion that is not a very cool feature. First off the condensation on the underside of the hood races to the back and runs off. For the most part, it just goes right back into your tank but if you have an over-the-back filter, that means you now have water all over the top of your filter. Also, when you are opening the hood to feed your fish, it drips all over the place. The first time I fed my fish, I had the open food container in the same hand I used to partially prop open the hood and had a bunch of water drip into the container. That really pissed me off considering a small container of food is $12 and I couldn't salvage much. It is just poor design planning.

Also important to note about condensation is if you have hard water in the least bit, you will get deposits on not only the underside of the hood, but the light lens, and possibly the OTB filter. Add to the fact that the light lens is plastic so you cannot scrub hard-water off of it without scratching the hell out of the plastic lens and you have longevity issues. Even if you don't have very hard water, over time you will get deposits, it is just a fact of life in the aquarium hobby. Condensation management for this hood just plain sucks. Maybe if you live in an area where the humidity is very high and you don't condition the air in your house you will not have the kind of condensation issues I am having.

I also don't like the light coverage inside the tank. The edges of the tank are not lit up as they would be with a flourescent bulb spanning the entire length of the tank. Add to this that when you open the hood, the LEDs move away from the water and shine in your face. This design oversight means there is no way to make changes to the tank's contents and see how they look as you make the changes if you are trying to set it up for display. Instead, you have to remove your arm and close the lid to get the visual. As I was changing the tank contents around to make it look the best under the new lighting conditions, this became a pain. I suppose it is a one-time issue.

Also, the break-away/cut-away section on the hood for OTB filter and cords, etc.. seems to be opposite of my previous hoods. I had to completely rearrange the contents of my tank so that I could move the heater and filter and other accessories to take advantage of this hoods setup. I was not a happy camper! I spent a lot of time getting my tak the way I liked it and then had to try and mimic that in a mirrored version to make this hood work. (That should have been my clue to send it back, but I pressed on...)

Finally, there is no way to open the hood in increments. It is either fully open or closed. This means that when doing maintenance, you have to have no lighting in the tank because the LEDs are staring you in the face. I know, just turn them off but then you have to turn them back on and close the lid to see if what you were doing is actually complete.

In summary, I was not impressed. I think with more effort in the design department and more commitment by the manufacturer to develop something that helps to showcase the contents of an aquarium as well as lnot inhibit the ability to maintain the tank, LED lighting has the potnetial to take the hobby by storm. Right now, though, the only bragging rights this product has in my opinion are "First to Market". I would wait before making an LED hood purchase.

I'm thrilled with the Marineland LED Aquarium Hood 20 by 10; I bought it as a part of an aquarium set up, a birthday present for my son, who just turned eight years old.

Before purchasing this hood my reservation was:

Are the LEDs going to be bright enough?

I think I read a review that said they weren't. Well, I'm quite picky about lighting, so I bought an extra red LED light as a part of a decor feature Hydor Ario Red Volcano Kit (Med)as an extra security: if the brightness of the LEDs was really not up-to-par, at least I would have a secondary light source.

Well, I was happily surprised when I turned on the hood light, which exceeded my expectations in brightness. The white lights are so true and pure and bright. The white light makes each color very clear and bright in the tank. The white light setting is actually too bright for night (I have the tank facing my son's bed).

All LEDs are not created equal, that is for sure. Previously, I purchased a small cylindrical aquarium for my desk; it had LED lights, but they were barely bright enough to fill the tank and barely make enough light to even use as a nightlight.

These lights are quite bright; fine LEDs, no need to worry about that one.

The blue moonlight setting is so unbelievably beautiful for night! I put it on for a soothing nightlight for my son to sleep by. Furthermore, I think it soothes the fish to have blue light at night, too. They need a break from the light, just like they would at night in their natural setting in the wild.

If you haven't switched your tanks to LED lights please note that not only are the lights more beautiful than incandescent, which always seem to have a bit of yellow to them (NOT a good thing when it comes to aquarium lighting) they are also energy hogs. LEDs are low-watt wonders: they produce beautiful, bright light (if built right) and use very little energy, which pays you in the long run. Plus, and this is a BIG PLUS, they don't give off heat, which means far less algae. I mean, CONSIDERABLY LESS.

I only had to change my small LED lit tank ONE time in six months and the water was crystal clear when I changed it. Really. That is a far cry from the old incandescent ones that seem to cloud up every time you turn around. That means CONSIDERABLY less work and more enjoyment from this product.

Combined with the volcano red LED Hydor Ario Red Volcano Kit (Med)decor and the thrilling Sea Serpent decoration, my son now has a unique, gorgeous and fascinating tank to view before he dozes off at night.

The white LED lights are bright and illuminate the aquarium nicely. The clips fit securely to the aquarium frame and the hinges on the hood snap into the clips. The hood fit nicely into the frame of our 10-gallon aquarium. The handle on the front is easy to grasp and there is a removable piece near it you can take out so you can have a small opening in the hood (about 1" by 2") if you want for easy feeding without opening the hood.

The cutout opening in the back has plenty of room for our Fluval C2 power filter, both when the hood is closed and when it is open.

The LED unit itself is a separate module that snaps into the top of the hood. The switch is on the top of the LED unit slide it all the way to the left for the white day light, all the way to the right for the blue light and to the center if you want to turn it off.

We are very pleased with this hood/light.

I own two 29 gallon aquariums (30x18x12)and had been using a flat glass versa top and putting a standard strip light that you could pick up from Wal-Mart for under $10 as lighting. I replaced the standard 24 inch bulb in the light strips with Aqueon T-8 Full Spectrum Daylight Fluorescent Lamp bulbs. I used this approach because I was worried about evaporation and glass versa tops hold in water pretty well. This hood does a comparable job, perhaps allows a bit more evaporation. I purchased one of these hoods and instantly decided to purchase another after seeing the difference in lighting.

My 29 gallon aquariums houses juv. African cichlids of various species ranging from dwarf Mbuna to piscivore Haps and these LED lights really pulls out their color. I had to cut out more room in the back of the hood to allow for more "hang on the back" filters because my aquariums are, from a technical standpoint, "overstocked".

LED lighting is in my opinion much better than the Aqueon T-8 Full Spectrum Daylight Fluorescent Lamp bulbs that I had been previously using. These LEDs enhance the blues and yellows of my African cichlids great and produce a clean looking white light that I think looks more natural. That being said, you can purchase some absolutely amazing aquarium specific light bulbs that specialize in various things such as plant growth or specific color enhancement.

A quick Pros and Cons for this product.

Pros:

-Cheap Compared to Other Hoods

-VERY Cheap Compared to Other LED Hoods (some LED hoods I looked at range from $80 to $2,000. YIKES)

-Modifiable Filter Space (use a hand saw to cut out needed room for filters. "Measure twice and cut once")

-Prevents Evaporation Comparable to Glass Versa Top

-Produces Less Algae Due to Light Spectrum

-Really Pulls Out the Colors in Fish (noticeably increased the range of hue in the blues and yellows of my male Aulonocara Baenschi or "Benga")

-Creates a Water Ripple Lighting Effect

-White Light For Day-time

-Blue Light for Night-time (It simulates the moon light and allows you to observe your inhabitants in a night setting)

-Small Removable Insert In Front of Hood to Allow Quick Access Without Having to Open The Hood For Feeding

(hole created is roughly 2inx 3in)

Cons:

-Back-top Corners of the Aquarium Are Not Illuminated Well (this is due to the cone effect used in Aquarium LED lighting)

-More Evaporation Than A Glass Versa Top

-You Get What You Pay For

-Must Be Fully Closed or Fully Open

-Scratch-able Plastic Light Housing (use care and patience when cleaning)

-Bad For Planted Aquariums

-Hinges Are Low Quality

-Blue & White Light Are On The Same Plug

-Not a Lot of Room For Multiple Hang on the Back Filters if You Have an Overstocked Aquarium (easily enough room for a 40-60 gallon rated hang on the back filter)

I hope I provided an unbiased and helpful review. Good luck shopping and as always, have a great day.

KONG Naturals Crinkle Butterflies Catnip Toy, Colors Vary, 2-Pack

KONG Naturals Crinkle Butterflies Catnip Toy, Colors Vary, 2-PackWe have two cats and each one loves to play with these toys in a different way. Our tortie goes crazy batting these babies around the house. She even carries them around in her mouth from room to room. Our white kitten picks these up with her teeth, jumps in the air, does a little twist, and releases, essentially tossing the toy so that she can chase it. All cats will love these! The crinkle is very soft, so you don't have to worry about noise if that bothers you.

Both our wild guy Baxter and dainty Diva Emily love their "butter" toys; so much so that I'm afraid the first set has taken quite a beating and I'm back to get more sets for a kitty holiday gift and gifts for other family member's cats. Great cat fun, just the right size and they LOVE the little dangly things *antennae* cats use them to catch and toss the toy. They have the Good House-kitty Seal of Approval! :)

These are cute, and my cats like to play with them, but there really isn't much of a crinkle sound to the butterflies. Nevertheless, they are well loved by my cats and reasonably priced so I do recommend them if you don't mind the lack of crinkle.

Sandi doesn't like catnip so this was no attraction what crinkle? He hasn't looked at it at all other than once carting it through to the bedroom and leaving it beside my slippers. With other toys that he's ignored at first he's come around after a week or so and plays with them -sometimes sneakily but not this one. Maybe got squashed in transit as package to Australia was squashed. Wouldn't recommend it for fussy animal unless it adored catnip.

Marina Standing Thermometer

Marina Standing Thermometerdoes what it is supposed to.

keeps my tank at the temp that it is supposed to be

I find my fish tries to move the thermometer around, so I but some stones around the bottom to hold it in place

*****

update

after 6months the bottom of the glass thermometer let go and the steel bb's came out,

filtering out the hundreds of tiny bb's was easily done with a small magnet,

a replacement thermometer I picked up a a local pet co and it looks the same except it has rubber coating the bottom of the thermometer, must have become a Known issue

so I would recomend the rubber bottom coated one

Blue Ribbon Cambodian Temple Ruins Aquarium Ornament

Blue Ribbon Cambodian Temple Ruins Aquarium OrnamentThis is a beautiful ornament for a fish tank! It fits perfectly in my 29 gallon, adding to the "jungle ruins" theme I am going for. It has a nice weight to it and looks to be constructed very well. My only complaint is that a couple of the openings (the entrance and one window) are a little rough and may tear a delicate fish's fins (like my betta). A little sanding solved that problem. I highly recommend!
