EHEIM Ecco Pro Easy 60 External Canister Filter Up to 60 US Gallons

EHEIM Ecco Pro Easy 60 External Canister Filter Up to 60 US GallonsI have owned this filter for a couple years now and it works brilliantly, it always quickly gets the water crystal clear after I have muddied up the water from cleaning the aquarium, it is very easy to use and clean except for the biological media bouncing all over the place like bacteria infused Kix cereal and the priming feature is brilliant. Also this thing is in the open in my bedroom and I can't hear a thing as long as I put a pad under it so it doesn't vibrate against floor. The only complaint I have is the water pressure dropping over the years. When I first bought it, the ecco 2234 would put so much pressure into the tank it turned it into a river with the current, the fish used to go swim in the current like salmon. Unfortunately no amount of cleaning and scrubbing and replacing filters gets the pressure and water circulation back to what it was when I first bought it. I had purchased this for a tank that is half the size the filter is rated for so the filter does absolutely fine even with the weak pressure. I would recommend this filter, however make sure you buy one that is rated for a much larger tank.

I own all three versions of the ECCO Pro series, and they are all terrible quality. The handles are cheap plastic and easily break. I've replaced the cheap plastic piece that holds the handle several times. Worse, the motors lasted about a day longer than the warranty. It's been a total of 2 years, and I have ONE functioning ECCO Pro filter...and that's because I've used spare parts from all the broken ones. Eheim is a good brand, but this model was Eheim's attempt at the "entry level" market. Fail. There's a reason most stores don't carry this garbage model anymore. Get the Eheim Classic. Proven design, long history. Avoid this one.

Ehem makes the best aquarium pumps. But that is not saying much, many of the others are not good at all. This one is easy to prime and has quick disconnects but if air does get inside the pump can over heat and burn up.. Had to send mine in the warranty replacement and it takes WEEKS at least. (Eheim needs a a service center here in the US, for US customers)

It is still the best, just could be better.

i looove this filter. i upgraded my 20 gallon to a 40b so my hob aquaclear filter wasnt going to cut it. i have a pleco like that loves to poop and poop and poop. you know the drill. so i went to look for a good canister filter. in the end i decided to go with a fluval since the reviews are almost always great for them. i went to petco to pick one up and while waiting for them to get the one for a 80 gallon i was walking around and noticed they had this one on sale for on $70. eheim is a very reliable brand so i said what the hey. ill try it out. well ive had it for 3 months now and it is super awesome. i only cleaned it once and it was very easy to clean. it comes with all the media. my tank is crystal clear and my fish are happy. also, the filter is sooo quiet. sometimes i think its not working because i cant hear any noise coming from it. so i put im hand by the output hose to check and i can feel the water flowing. i didnt buy it from amazon but decided to put a review up anyway since there isnt to much info on this product. even though amazon sells it for more its totally worth it. i would definitely by it again. btw, the filter media is a little difficult to come by but the fx5 filter media fits if you just trim it a little (blue sponge and water polisher).

I have had this filter for two years now. It works like new, my water is clear like the day I changed it. The filter is very quiet, easy to clean, and you can create your own combination of filtration layers. I would reccomend it to anyone who wants a good quality filter for a relatively low price. And the best part about it... it's virtually maintenance free since you only need to clean it once every 3 months. I love it!

Plants+Plus Large Hygrophilia

Plants+Plus Large HygrophiliaSpreads out very nicely to create natural looking cover for my cichlids. Helps them make their territories easily and reduce aggression.

The title pretty much says it all, much better looking than the plastic plants, the only problem i've had with a few of these is the stems coming unglued from their base. Some aquarium silicon and they're fixed.

Quiet One Lifegard Aquarium Pump, 106-Gallon Per Hour

Quiet One Lifegard Aquarium Pump, 106-Gallon Per HourThe pump functions, but it has very little head to it. If you need to raise the tube even one foot above the water height it stops pumping. It might work fine for a small filter system but didn't work for my purposes. I returned it and got my money back.

TOM TM1343 Aquarium Rapids Submersible 700gph Replacement Pump

TOM TM1343 Aquarium Rapids Submersible 700gph Replacement PumpI also need the skimmer pump, thanks for telling all that a good cleaning works, mine is frozen but my be i do something as well, although I left it plugged in for a long time, good thing its a magnet stuck and no gears. Any advise?

I have the Rapids Pro Series Wet/Dry Filter Systemfor my 100-gallon salt water aquarium. It has 2 pumps, and this one is the bigger pump. The smaller protein skimmer pump is the one I needed. Unfortunately, no one, not even Amazon, sells the protein skimmer pump. (they have protein skimmer pumps, just not the one that goes in the Rapids pro. Fortunately, I took the Venturi apart and cleaned it out, and now it works like new. I also have the Autofill system, which is great if I'm going to be out of town for more than a few days.

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Mag - Drive 7 Water Pump (700Gph)

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Mag - Drive 7 Water PumpWorked perfect for my 72 gallon saltwater tank.

Used it for my refugium.very silent and powerful .perfect for a 72 gallon tank

Correct, the picture does not look exactly like the item (google Danner Supreme MagDrive 7 for actual photos and price comparison). Easily places in-sump for underwater delivery. For optimal flow, it is suggested to connect the outlet to a 1/2"-to-1" pvc adapter, making the return line 1" in diameter instead. This pump does make some vibration noise, which was easily minimized by taking aquarium grade clear silicone and simply making a 'web' of lines underneath for form a cushion of silicone to sit on.

CoralVue Technology BH-2000 Octopus with External 2000 Pump for Aquarium Filter, 125-Gallon

CoralVue Technology BH-2000 Octopus with External 2000 Pump for Aquarium Filter, 125-GallonMany complain that the manual is insufficient. Priming the pump seems to be the main issue. I learned a trick. After powering the pump, suck in and out on the air hose. I think it adds more suction pressure so that priming has more power. It should start immediately after that. This thing pulled out thick skimmate out of my 90 g.

I am running this skimmer on my 75 gallon reef system. As others have said, the documentation is poor, but the product is great. I have found that once the skimmer is primed, it can be turned off and back on again without priming if the aquarium water level is at its normal level. This is advantageous since I have it on an automatic timer so that for a few hours in the evening (TV viewing time) it is off. However, the sound level is not excessive for a protein skimmer. When I first started the skimmer it generated tons of bubbles, overflowing the collection area into the outfeed area. I needed to adjust the collection cup very high at this time. This "break-in" period for a protein skimmer is normal. After several days, it settled to a reasonable level and has been running great ever since. When I do my partial water changes in the aquarium, the water level drops to a point that requires the skimmer to be primed again. Its a little tricky getting it going again, but I am sure after a few more water changes I will understand better how to get the primed more efficiently.

Want CoralVue Technology BH-2000 Octopus with External 2000 Pump for Aquarium Filter, 125-Gallon Discount?

I bought this protein skimmer for my 75 gallon tank because I do not have enough room in the sump for one of the in-sump skimmers (I have since turned my sump into large refugium that only houses the heater and GFO reactor). I know that it says it needs to have at least 2 days to break in, but it was pulling out a dark, thick skimmate from the first day that it was working. I chose not to use the sponges that came with the unit, but I still do not have any issues with microbubbles going into the main tank. It is fairly quiet, and I would say VERY quiet compared to the other skimmer that this replaced on my tank. It is strong and durable with a very powerful pump. No leaks and no issues thus far. I am very pleased with this skimmer and I would recommend it to anyone who has a tank 100 gallons or less who does not have enough room in the sump for a comparable sized in-sump skimmer.

Fish Bubbles - Wall Hanging Fish Tank - 3.6L

Fish Bubbles - Wall Hanging Fish Tank - 3.6LI've had this bowl for a year now with the same betta in it the whole time I've had it. I added two african dwarf frogs to keep him entertained (Bettas do not attack frogs) and they have all been living happily. I've been keeping betta's for years and do a lot of research so I know a lot about them. They do not need a heater unless your room is abnormally cold. I do not clean this bowl daily, in fact that would kill the betta. The other reviewer appears to be ammature. I clean this bowl every other week and add more water about once a week (it evaporates out) and this system works out fine. The betta's happy, the frogs are happy, I'm happy, this bowl is good.

I got the fish pod as a gift and decided I didnt want to put a fish in it. Instead I used it as a terrarium!! It is the perfect size and it looks adorable hanging on my wall! The opening is a bit small but it works well for watering. All in all I am very satisfied with the product.

Buy Fish Bubbles - Wall Hanging Fish Tank - 3.6L Now

Bettas can live in small tanks without filtration and without aeration. However, without filtration their water MUST be changed regularly--not topped off as it evaporates, as evaporation doesn't remove fish waste or nitrates from the existing water. With a one gallon container (the approximate size of this bowl), owners can expect to replace the water once or twice a week, which is no big deal with a tabletop bowl but probably a bit inconvenient with a wall-mounted bowl.

Goldfish, on the other hand, need large amounts of water with filtration and aeration. First, they are large fish--they grow up to a foot in length--and thus need a larger quantity of water to maintain them. Second, they are inefficient eaters and produce a lot of waste, and so filtration (and enough water to accomodate their waste) is a must. Third, they are cold water fish, and cold water holds more oxygen; no room-temperature bowl can provide enough. A single gallon will not keep a goldfish alive long, and will not keep it healthy.

As for other "easy-to-maintain" fish, I have my doubts. A fish may be hardy enough to survive a while in a tiny unfiltered tank, but hardy and healthy are not the same things. In addition, most of these fish will need at least one gallon PER fish, which puts schooling species at a distinct disadvantage.

Which brings me to the reviewer who keeps a betta and two African Dwarf Frogs in this bowl and only changes water once every two weeks. Despite the fish lasting 'a whole year' so far, the tank really is overcrowded and under-maintained. The proof is not that the fish and frogs have lasted a year, but whether they last their full lifespan--seven years for the betta, between ten and twenty years for the frogs.

I've had mine for about 6 months and I am about to throw it away. The maintenance is too much for my schedule to keep up with, it gets dirty fast. It also started leaking recently. It's a pretty small space for the fish to swim and is overpriced for a half circle of plastic. Although I did receive compliments because it's not something you see everyday in a bathroom (where I put it).

Marineland Cartridge System 3 Explorer and Hex 3pk

Marineland Cartridge System 3 Explorer and Hex 3pkCompared to PetsMart this should save you a few dollars. Also, don't be so quick to throw these guys away with the Eclipse tanks. We've noticed that the tanks filtration system has a pretty solid vacuum, so you'll notice that these cartridges will get dirty after about 4-5 days. Don't worry, because it's just the top layer. Pull the cartridge out and scrub the surface with a new toothbrush from your dentist. You know? The cheap ones they give you after you've paid for a teeth cleaning. This should get you a few extra days.

Petco Bookshelf Freshwater Fish Aquarium

Petco Bookshelf Freshwater Fish AquariumThis tank is great for small spaces, and because it's so narrow (front to back) it really CAN fit on a bookshelf. The included filter has an adjustable flow, so you can dial it back for fish that don't like strong currents.

The tank LOOKS much bigger than it is because of the length, and it also has more surface area than many 6 gallon tanks. The surface area is important for gas exchange, so this is a big plus.

The bulb that comes with the tank isn't the best for live plants, but it's a size and type that is readily available at any big-box DIY store. I replaced the original bulb with a 6700 Kelvin (daylight) one for about $7, and the tank looks much better for it. The plants are much happier, too!

The only flaws are that the plastic is VERY easy to scratch, and the tank tends to leak from under the top trim. Lift the trim off the tank, lay down a bead of silicone sealant and replace the trim this will stop the leaking.

Overall, this is a good deal and a very nice tank. I would recommend this to a friend.

Shipping time: Great as this arrived aprox 4 days from Amazon purchase date

Packaging: Everything was either boxed or plastic wraped or both.

Dimensions: as it is 24 long by 8 deep and 12 high, it has alot of floor surface area. This was ideal as my tank inhabitants are bottom dwellers. MUCH more space than other small gallon/desktop tanks.

Price: Super for what you get. I did add filter media (5-10 gal sponge and white ceramic bio)from my local pet shop, small heater, bubble wand and my own decorations.

Cover and light: There is a small lid for feeding in the front. The clear acrylic topper has lots of punch outs for addition needs ( like air tubes and heaters). The light works just fine and has a bluish glow. This is easily upgraded.

Buy Petco Bookshelf Freshwater Fish Aquarium Now

First off, this is a good tank. Well packaged, good construction and components. Very attractive, excellent shape for 6.5 gallons. Looks bigger than it is. The acrylic is nice and sturdy and in my experience was not easily scratched. The filter seems to work well, pretty quiet and can be dialed from low to high depending on your fish needs. The light works fine and the hood has a convenient door for feeding the fish. In order to access the inside of the tank, you must first lift off the light fixture and set it down somewhere. Then underneath there is a clear plastic lid that your remove and set aside and then you can access the inside of the tank. I recommend this tank as a good value and it's unique dimensions for a small tank are very attractive. Don't plan on putting much in this tank however, at 6.5 gallons it is only suited for maybe 1 betta and a bottom dweller or two.

Read Best Reviews of Petco Bookshelf Freshwater Fish Aquarium Here

I received this tank as a Christmas present for my betta. I really adore it! You can't fill it up above the rim because the rims actually pop off. Because there isn't an actual seal the water leaks right out if you fill it above the rim. While it's slightly annoying, I appreciate that in the future I could run this as a rimless tank if I could furnish a different sort of lighting (the rim is required to support the light fixture). It's difficult to find nice rimless tanks in this price range so I'm pretty happy about that.

While my betta lived in a 10 gallon tank before so this may seem like a downgrade, he actually has much more usable space and loves to zoom from one side of the tank to the other. :) The dimensions are just lovely for bettas and really pretty much any fish. It has the same proportions as a 20 gallon long, just mini. I put it side by side with a 10 gallon tank and it's 2-3 inches longer, but of course much shorter and thinner.

I cant comment on the filter because I just used the filter I already had running in my 10 gallon-an Aquaclear 20.

There was some cloudy-looking whitish substance on the glass when I filled it up (it wasn't visible when the tank was empty) [***EDIT: I figured out what was going on with that-I was using a sand substrate and the residue from it left a film on the walls of the tank. I discovered this once I used the same sand in a completely different, old tank I had lying around and the same thing happened. So this is NOT the fault of the manufacturer of this aquarium.***] but it rubbed off easily with my finger. I didn't rinse the tank, though, so that might have prevented it. Once I removed the cloudy-looking stuff the tank is crystal clear. It is acrylic so you should only use micro-fiber on the outside and an algae scrubber made for acrylic on the inside-glass scrubbers WILL scratch this aquarium. Luckily there are products on the market that remove scratches (I can't vouch for their effectiveness, though, as I haven't used them) if you have a slip up. I really like that acrylic tanks like this one have no seams on the edges like glass tanks do, where they were bonded with silicone.

Also, this is a bowfront tank but because it's so long the bow is very slight, so there is literally no distortion. Which is awesome.

The light fixture isn't the best. At first it kept going out and turning on again like the bulb wasn't staying in correctly. I haven't had a problem in the past couple days though. I'm also going to change the bulb to a daylight bulb (6500 K) because it is better for growing plants. I really like the fact that the piece supporting the light is clear throughout, because it allows you to stick another light fixture behind it (I will post pictures explaining what I mean by this) for greater watts per gallon (only important for live plants). The second fixture I used, which is the same size as the one that comes with the tank, was for an 10 imperial gallon tank (this is about 12 US gallons, but the proportions are different for UK and US tanks).

Overall I am very very happy with this tank. Best gift I got this year. :D

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think I figured out the deal with the hood/light. When I changed the bulb I realized that the one that comes with the aquarium is a few centimeters smaller than a standard 15 watt, 18 inch florescent bulb. If you buy a new bulb it will have a tighter fit (but not too tight--the light it comes with is too loose) and it will stay in place better. It kept turning off on me because the old bulb would slip slightly out of alignment. I have no idea why they would include a non-standard size bulb in what appears to be standard size hood, but that seems to be what's going on. A new bulb (which can be easily found at Wal-Mart) does the trick. [EDIT: Two weeks with the new bulb and no problems at all. It cost me $8 at Wal-Mart, but cheaper ones can be bought if you don't have live plants.]

Want Petco Bookshelf Freshwater Fish Aquarium Discount?

I purchased the Petco Bookshelf aquarium through Amazon and I am THRILLED with it. I did it in an Asian theme and it is beautiful. Aqua colored gravel, a pagoda, bridge, bamboo and grasses. My blue Betta thinks he is in heaven! I love the long syle of it. At 6.6 gallons, it gives fish lots of horizontal room to swim the whole length of the 24" tank and plenty of room for plants and decor. The flourescent light brings out the colors of the ornaments and makes the betta glow with beauty. The pump and filtration system work nicely and my pump is quiet. It was shipped VERY quickly, I got it within 2 and a half days, and it came double boxed. Inside the main box it was packed really nice. The tank itself was inside a plastic type bag to help minimize scratches. For the price, it is better than anything I have seen at local pet stores. I'm thinking of getting another one I like it so much. If you are thinking of getting an aquarium, don't let this one pass you by. I think you will more than happy with it. Thanks for reading my review and hope it helps!

Hydor Koralia Nano 425 Aquarium Circulation Pump 425 GPH

Hydor Koralia Nano 425 Aquarium Circulation Pump 425 GPHI have to say that this circulation pump is amazing. Packs a lot of punch for something the size of an egg, and it's small size is what makes it so great. With the magnet base to attach it you can basically mount this thing anywhere in the aquarium. I originally bought it to add to my AquaClear Powerhead 400 for some extra flow but I was so happy with the performance, size, and neat clean look inside the tank that I have decided to retire my old bulky powerhead and replace it by ordering another Koralia Nano 425. I have a 29 gallon BioCube and I believe 2 of them will give the perfect amount of flow for my corals. Very happy with this product and I highly reccomend it.

This works very well for my 37 Gallon. It really is quite and creates just enough circulation in my aquarium to keep the water moving nicely. I wouldn't say it does an excellent job eliminating all the "dead spots" in the tank but the fish seem much happier and my feather duster looks so nice flowing in the current.

The size is perfect for small aquariums and hides nicely next to my filter so it really isn't obtrusive.

I am considering getting a second one just to increase the flow and rid the tank of all dead spots.. I haven't decided yet but I love the product and this was the best price I found it for :)

Buy Hydor Koralia Nano 425 Aquarium Circulation Pump 425 GPH Now

This is a nice addition to any reef tank. It's fairly small and nearly silent. It's easy to setup and adjust using the magnet. The reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because there is no adjustment for fan speed, it's all or nothing and nothing in between which would be nice in case you want to dial down the force a bit. Another nice addition would be an on/off switch, but that's not as critical. The built quality of the unit is nice. I definitely would recommend this over the Koralia 1 since this is a more compact unit and gives the same amount of force.

This unit moves a lot of water in a broad, gentle path. The magnetic base works well; the unit is easy to reposition. The cord isn't bulky and is plenty long. The design is low-profile and much more attractive than your average power-head. So far no "suck-in" fatalities with my inverts I've even observed snails crawling over the housing without any apparent problem. Not as fully adjustable as I had hoped to achieve the optimum direction, but once set it stays put.

DrTim's Aquatics One and Only Live Nitrifying Bacteria for Cycling Reef and Nano Aquariums, 4-Ounce

DrTim's Aquatics One and Only Live Nitrifying Bacteria for Cycling Reef and Nano Aquariums, 4-OunceI used it to cycle my 95 gallon reef tank. Followed instructions, used plenty of life rock and with Maricle Mud in my sump for start-up. I never saw a spike in any of my tests... NONE OF THEM! I used a clown fish for the ammonia introduction as instructed and he never showed a single sign of any stress. He ate like a pig and was full of color and spunk the whole time. This tank is now a month old and has fish, crabs, and coral.. and all are bright and healthy. My test are and have been rock solid. My tank is proof that this product will cycle your tank day one by adding the bacteria on the spot instead of waiting for it to happen on it's own in weeks.

Added this to my newly set-up tank, and as said, no spikes from Ammonia, Nitrites or Nitrates. It has been two weeks and I have zeros across the board and the fish are doing great. Any future set-ups I will definitely be using this product

Petego-Jet Set Pet Carrier

Petego-Jet Set Pet Carrier - Medium/BlackI bought the medium and large Jet Set pet carrier through Amazon for my Chihuahua and Dachshund after looking at all the other carriers in New York pet stores. I simply wanted an attractive and rugged dog carrier that could genuinely withstand the rigors of travel and protect my dogs against inevitable knocks and jolts. It needed to be well padded and offer far more protection than the most popular soft carrier but also be able to squeeze under an airplane seat. However at home, I needed something that wasn't so utilitarian that it needed to be shut away but instead could function as a subtle and sensible den.

On the whole, I found almost all the competition either too feminine bordering on the stupid and/or too flimsy for serious consideration by anyone not just considering flying with a dog, but for any travel whether by car, subway or even bicycle!

The Jet Set carriers have proven themselves as very tough and practical. I like their well padded interiors and simple tough exterior (though I wish they came in other colors especially black or dark brown). The floor, side walls and ceiling all have what feels like at least a half inch of foam padding on a semi-rigid backing. The interior padding is covered in a soft black cloth. I wish that the floor was removable or there was a fleece lining I could buy so I simply line it with newspaper and cover with an old folded bath mat. The exterior shell in tough thick ballistic nylon (that as I mentioned I wish came in other more muted colors). On either side are windows with roll-up cover flaps and both ends have zippered soft nylon mesh openings. These offer a good mix of ventilation and privacy that some other dog carriers don't either too much or too little. Also my Dachshund has chewed through the soft plastic mesh of other brand dog carriers (that I was unhappy with for all the reasons I like the Jet Set) but at best, just flossed his teeth on the Jet Set's mesh.

I completely endorse and recommend the Jet Set bag. I can't imagine there is a better dog carrier on the market I certainly didn't find one in the dozen or more pet stores I visited in Manhattan ranging from Petco to very high end designer shops. They've performed amazingly well and at about $110 were excellent value for money especially compared to both cheaper and much more expensive carriers that look foolish and don't offer your dog enough protection on the move. I've seen some people on airplanes that have "fashion" dog bags that one could see were completely inadequate and inwhich the dog was uncomfortable and miserable. My dogs love their Jet Sets as dens at home (tucked under dining chairs in the corner of a room) and inasmuch seem just as relaxed and happy curled up/stretched out in them on the subway, in a plane or car.

I have a large 13 lb cat that I bought this bag for. The size was just right for him to stand and turn around. I traveled with this bag on American Airlines with no issue. Though the bag fit under the seat in front of me, it is a bit long. I was fortunate in that the person seated next to me did not have any carry-on luggage to stow as my bag did encroach into his space.

The mesh ventilation is good and bad. Good in that it is sturdy and will not be easily torn. Bad in that the holes are very small, providing little air flow. My cat was damp when I finally landed and was able to pull him out. I believe it to be due to the humidity build up in the bag.

The straps on the bag are awkward. The handle straps work ok. I was able to hold onto the bag this way for a while. Due to the size of the cat and his movement, it was hard to keep a steady balance. The shoulder straps were not that great. With a smaller pet, it might have been ok. When my cat would shift weight it would cause the bag to tip and my cat to slide to the bottom, resulting in the bag flipping on end. I ended up carrying him with two hands through the airport to try and keep the bag level.

Overall. The bag is good. It works with a larger cat and met the airline's requirements, which is just what I needed.

I definitely knew what the dimensions were when I ordered this because I needed to make sure it fit the requirements of United Airlines, however, this thing is really small! My dog will fit in it but she barely has room to curl up, she's going to be making the sides bulge to do so. She's a Chihuahua/Terrier, 12 pounds, and about 12" from collar to base of tail.

The mesh windows do seem very durable. My complaint is that the windows aren't big enough to give her much visual while inside. And it's difficult for me to see her inside of it and make sure she's comfortable.

Also the backpack "straps" are very uncomfortable, there is not padding on them and after wearing it with the dog for a few minutes they started to dig into my shoulders.

The top of the carrier has some "give" so it should be able to fit under any plane seat. Other carriers I've seen have very stiff piping that don't allow much pushing down on the top--which is good for safety reasons...Overall this carrier has lots and lots of padding to protect the dog on all sides.

My last "complaint" is that the soft insert that lies on the carrier floor doesn't velcro down, so that could move around a bit but it's not as bad as other carriers I've seen. We're taking her on a flight in about a month, so hopefully all goes well.

Aqua-Tech 10-20 Power Filter, Perfect for 10-20 gallon aquariums!

Aqua-Tech 10-20 Power Filter, Perfect for 10-20 gallon aquariums!I've had several of these Aqua Tech filters in different sizes (5-15, 20-40, 30-60). Before I say anything else, FYI this is a Walmart brand filter. That should tell you something about the quality right there. Anyway, these filters all had one thing in common they were all GARBAGE! The filter cartridges are a joke, they do not keep water clear unless changed AT LEAST every 10 days. To make matters worse, each time the cartridge is changed, most of the "good" bacteria (which primarily lives in the filter) is removed from the tank. Within a few days, this makes your tank cloudy from a mini-cycle. It clears up ... just in time to change the cartridge again (talk about annoying). A 3-pack of cartridges on the smaller filters lasted me less than a month, and on the 30-60 filter I went through a 3-pack every 2 weeks or so! The cartridge itself has maybe 50 pieces of carbon in it! Complete garbage, I can not tell you how many fish I lost to these because filtration sucked! I switched to AquaClear 50 Power Filter 110 V, UL Listed (Includes AquaClear 50 Carbon, AquaClear 50 Foam & AquaClear 50 BioMax so much cheaper to maintain (been using it for 3 months and the media will not need replacement any time soon), and it does a FANTASTIC job!!! I have not lost a fish since switching to AquaClear. Do yourself a favor, stay away from Aqua Tech brand, it's overpriced junk.

I have two Aqua-tech filters, one 10-20 model which I have used for around two years and one 20-40 model that I have had in continuous use for over four years. I have been very pleased with their performance. While there are certainly better filters on the market these offer a good low budget option for the beginner aquarist.

There are many things to recommend this filter:

*The filter is very quiet, I have both operating in a bedroom.

*It is also surprisingly well made for the price, my cat loves to stand on the filter and no damage has resulted. Occasionally I have had the one of the filters simply stop working but unplugging the filter and re-seating the impeller always fixes this.

*Maintenance is simple; just change the disposable filter cartridge. To prime it after maintenance just pour some tank water in the top to get it running again. Occasionally it is a good idea to take a toothbrush and clean the intake pipe and impeller of algae buildup. Also remove any hair or fur caught in the impeller with tweezers, especially if you have cats or dogs. These buildups will cause the filter to run less quietly.

*replacement filter cartridges are easily purchased at your local Walmart.

There are two major flaws with this filter as far as I am concerned.

*First, it sometimes starts to make quite a bit of noise. This is generally caused by the intake rattling against the case and is easily solved simply by removing the intake pipe and impeller and re-seating it. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get it to work silently again.

*Second, there is little biological filtration capacity. while it comes with a biological filtration cartridge it is quite small for the filter size. Some people have modified their filters by adding additional biomedia such as filter floss in the empty spaces. However, I have never needed to do this as I make frequent water changes and the tanks both have well colonized substrates.

in short if you are very serious about fish-keeping you will probably want to invest in a higher quality canister filter. However, if your just getting into the hobby and are not sure about your commitment to it yet this is a good low budget filter for your first tank.

I bought a tank on Craigslist and this filter came along with itlooking at it, I thought it was a piece of crap. But to my amazement when I got home, it was almost totally silent! It was actually quiter than my AquaClear (I think there's something wrong my Aquaclear though.) I can never find cartrideges for oit, so I don't know about them, but I just cram misc. filter media in there and it does just finelots of good bacteria growing and a decent water flow. I use it as an extra filter for my 36 gallon along with the Aquaclear 50, my tank always is really cleanplus having the 2 filters is great for avoiding mini-cycles, I just clean one filter and then a while later clean the other, never a shortage of bacteria! :) The price here on Amazon seems horrendous though, $50 for it? No way! I wouldn't pay that much for this, no matter how quiet!

Lee's 2-Inch Wooden Air Diffuser, 2-Pack

Lee's 2-Inch Wooden Air Diffuser, 2-PackThis shipper (accidentally?) included a cheap plastic bag that the chinese manufacturer must have originally put these in. It is all Chinese except for saying "AquaValue" at the top and there is a diagram of how to use these in an aquarium that is labelled in chinese. The diffuers are now sealed in a nice blister pack in all-english. Why they included the weird all-chinese bag with this is beyond me.

Anyway, they work wonderfully. I'm using them to create small bubbles to diffuse CO2 in a planted tank. They make much finer bubbles than my air stones that I was using previously and my CO2 concentration has improved. I can't comment on how well these would work in a protein skimmer. I always used an injection-powered Aqua-C skimmer so I wouldn't have to mess with replacement parts like this all the time. The main downside to these is that wood floats duh. I hadn't really considered this and these don't come with any suction cups to hold them down, so unless you have suction cups for your air hoses already, you're going to have to buy them or hook the hose under an ornament or rock. I realize that this is the case with all bubblers since they're filled with air, but these are REALLY buoyant.

Theses air diffusers supply abundant micro air bubbles that create the foam inside my protein skimmer. Long lasting, however they need to be kept on continuously, if shut off for awhile then the bubbles will be large but will become micro again after running enough hours.

I used these for many years in my aquariums and thy were the best for diffusing air into water and now I use them in my boat's live well. These are great. They are so much better than the ceramic stones because when bounced around in the bottom of the live well they do not break as the other do. BUT most of all they diffuse so much more oxygen into the water

Fish Tank Aquarium Protein Skimmer Filter Pump 530 gph

Fish Tank Aquarium Protein Skimmer Filter Pump 530 gphOrdered this for my 120 fish only tank, trying to save a few bucks, and while it shipped very quickly, that's about where the positives end. The item came in a plain white box with a small instructions pamphlet that was clearly written by someone for whom English is not a native tongue. The few instructions that came with the item were incredibly unclear and unhelpful. Then once I got to assembling the skimmer, I realized just how flimsy it was. The collection cup is held in place by wishes and hopes and would go flying off as soon as you turned this thing on and it started foaming over. That's another thing as well, the amount of foam and micro bubbles was ungodly, and no matter how much you adjusted the multiple valves, it was either not skimming at all, or blowing over with foam. Not to mention that the design of this thing is extremely ill thought out. It takes up an enormous amount of space inside the tank, and the bracket to hang it is not wide enough for my tank ( did I mention this was advertised to work for up to 180 gallon tanks?). What possible uses this item can have, I haven't a clue. I've started the return process and purchased a seaclone 150 which compared to this thing is a dream come true and that's saying something, because the seaclone is a budget skimmer.

Was to big for tank can not fit light back on after installing. thought it said in the tank not above the tank.

It takes a lot of tweaking and modifications to get it to work correctly. Even then it only runs correctly for less than a day before having to tweak it again. Very cheap plastic on housing and connections, and cracks very easily. Only positive thing about it is the motor,it runs great with no problems.

i set this up in my tank and the motor was way too powerful, even with the flow control, i am running it with a smaller motor and some holes drilled in some 3/4" tubing. setup took alot of time but it is working fine now. first one i've ever used so cannot measure against anything else.
