Zilla Jungle Mix

Zilla Jungle Mix, 24-QuartI'm usually wary of substrate products, and I've used this one for years, trying others occasionally, but always buying this again. It is a good blend: I've never had it sprout mold or fungus, and it doesn't seem to cause allergies or irritations when used with a wide variety of reptiles and amphibians. Probably most important, I've never had an impaction (digestive blockage) problem with any animal using this stuff. It seems to pass through easily if eaten. The Jungle Mix also absorbs and holds water but not to the point that it becomes muddy for days, which is a problem I've had with some other substrates. One complaint is that there are usually some sharp pieces of bark or whatever in the mix, so I have to go through it and remove it sometimes to keep the critters from poking themselves.

I use it for my hermit crabs I mix it with the pine bark bedding and they dig to china :) It stays moist for a long time i spray it once a day :)

Green Killing Machine Internal 24 Watts UV Sterilizer with Power Head

Green Killing Machine Internal 24 Watts UV Sterilizer with Power HeadI have a 50 Gal Tank, with a variety of community fish appx 20 fish total, i have 2 snails, and a pleco. the tank is filtered by Fluval 305.

When i first set the tank up it was great, water couldnt be clearer. over time, it would accumulate floating algae (ALOT),so much algae that you could not see any of the fish, or any of the ornaments, and i would be doing anywhere from 20% to 50% water changes every week or every other week because it would get so bad, and sometimes the water changes would have very little to no effect on slowing down the algae growth. i DID NOT want to try chemicals because i find alot of people say that it just stresses out the fish, and i didnt want to try chemical treatment also because i didnt like the idea of having it in the water. so i started doing some research on how to make the situation better. i saw alot of diffrent styles of UV sterilizers (more expensive in MOST cases) and the fact that you need to buy/or already have a power head for them was not helping the situation financially. i came across AA's product and read a dozen reviews or so, where 9 out of 10 were positive.

i really love the fact that it is self contained, has it's own pump, filter, and UV light.. the instructions lack quality images and is a bit cumbersome to follow at first, but when you sit down and actually just look at the image of the unit on the box, you can figure out how to put it together yourself. the reason i bought the (24W) unit is because i felt that i had maybe a worse case than usual algae problem because there is sunlight from 2 windows hitting the tank (by the way, i tried cutting the light out of the tank, did not work)

Setup took literally 10 min, from out of the box to running in the tank, and was NO HASSLE at all. the first 24 hrs or so, i didn't really see a difference. then at 48 hrs i started to see like a milky but clearer situation in the tank, at the end of the third day, things were looking good but not perfect yet, finally on ONLY the 4th day, i can see not only the fish and ornaments, but straight through to the back of the tank!. i feel that this product works Extremely Efficiently and is a must have for anyone with algae/bacteria problems. the money i used to buy this product was very well spent, and i don't think there is a better unit within the price range to beat this. i can expect that in the next few days or so the water WILL BE clearer than tap water (ive read in reviews that its actually clearer than bottled water), i am very much looking forward to this.

i would give this product 10 stars out of 5 , that is how much i love it. it works great, IS QUIET (cant hear it AT ALL), and is very easy to set up. Would recommend to Everyone with an aquarium

With no UV sterilizer installed I have insane algae issues with my turtle tank. Think Shamrock Shake. A full water change and this Green Killing Machine installed and there's no sign of algae developing 2 weeks in. It's in a 75 gallon tank. I like that it lives inside the tank, so there's no potential for leaking. The setup they have to power the UV lamp and the included powerhead from one AC adapter is pretty spiffy. I replaced a leaking 15W Pentair Lifeguard with this, and it's 24W vs the Pentair's 15W, for half the cost.

It's toy-like product name and low price had me a little dubious of its quality, but so far its living up to it's title.

Buy Green Killing Machine Internal 24 Watts UV Sterilizer with Power Head Now

Keeping fish for the past 40 years and experimeting with U.V Sterilizers for the past seven my read on them is that tanks fitted with the right sized unit is a definite plus. What had put me off about UV systems was the need for pumps, tubing , plumbing and the overall hassle of installing them .

This unit includes the pump requires no hoses or tubing to run and nothing extra to buy you can literally take this out of the box, attach inside your tank or sump, plug it in and that's that.

Regarding the selling of UV in general there is far to much emphasis on green algae. Removing algae is little more than a side benefit. What UV does extremely well is remove disease causing pathogens and harmful bacteria from the water. Especially important in well stocked tanks. What U. V sterilizers do is pull in water which flows past an encased in clear quartz tube and is exposed to UV light, which kills up to 99% of harmful pathogens. So more important than GPH or anything else for that matter is the exposure time with which water passes by the UV bulb.

I think marketing this as a "Green Killing Machine" is probably a smart idea and would get the attention of hobbyists who otherwise could give a hoot about the other benefits of UV. However if your algae is due to things like too much full spectrum light, over feeding or poor water water parameters this is just a bandaid that will only at it's best disguise the real and significant problems facing your aquarium.

What is more, this unit a incedibly cumbersome three seperate components and a myraid of wires both inside and outside the tank make this a potentially dangerous product for fish as well as humans. Much like the spiral design of the Coral Life systems, the zig zag interior of this system employs this same kind of theory in design to add as much exposure time to the UV and in my book that trumps GPG ratings which are usually false to begin with. However, this isn't to say GPH isn't important of course it is and this is also the key area of this design that's lacking.

The MFG doesn't list the GPH because it's so terribly low. Using a Hach instrumentation flow meter which works on sound waves and runs about 3 grand this pump has a flow rate of 11.2 GHP which is unacceptable for any size tank even though the unit contains a whopping 24 watt UV lamp. In addition remember UV can't penetrate glass without being diluted hence, quartz fashioned into a true lens is used as housing. Because the unit is effective although extremly slow my best guess is fused glass is used. Fused glass is a combination of quartz and glass and is a fraction of the cost of pure quartz. To replace the cover of the included 24 watt bulb with pure quartz at a rock bottom price would cost you $65-$75

The enormous tangle of wires and having the control box outside on the wall or back of the tank is an accident waiting to happen not to mention, the suction cups used on the outside are weak and the unit falls off frequently. They call this "child proofing" -and it's nonsense. Any child is going to be more inclined to pull something off the tank that's just sitting there than figure out a way to get their hands into the aquarium.

Take a pass on this particular unit until they at least address it's many flaws.

** Never use a UV Sterilizer in a new or still cycling aquarium, these are for established aquariums only Plus you don't need to run UV 24/7 twelve hours a day or less is fine for most applications. It's a good idea to plug the unit into a dedicated power strip or use with a timer since these don't have an on/off switch**

** You can increase the efficiency of any UV Steelier, your filter and the overall health of your tank by adding a small water circulator. If you don't need a power head these are ideal. The keep the current in your tank even and eliminate cold and hot spots. The temperature will be uniform. The current keeps particulate matter waterborne making it easier for things like filters and UV systems to do a better job. Brown algae and green algae spores are poor swimmers, the current helps keep them from attaching to tank walls and sides and off any ornaments, dried corals, rocks and so on.

I recommend the ones by Aqueon they're silent, do a great job, install right out of the box and are a fraction of the cost of most others.

My 120 gallon tank gets a good bit of natural light. I set it up in October and about 2 months later the water went from clear to slime green in a couple days. I couldn't see an inch into the tank. I did some research, but decided with the natural light that it would probably come back, so I got the green killing machine and hoped for the best. My water cleared up about a day after putting it in the tank and has stayed clear!

Want Green Killing Machine Internal 24 Watts UV Sterilizer with Power Head Discount?

Sure it clears the water. Help get rid of things like ich? Doubt it natural supplements like garlic have been the trick for me. Another reviewer mentioned the cables, yeah they are a little messy. The suction cups on the powerbox stink, they hold for about 3 hours on clean glass. The suction cups on the unit itself do not hold at all. I have this in my refugium and its not mounted because it wont stay mounted... Clean the sponge/prefilter often. It does clear up green water /excessive algae but i didnt have a problem with that anyway. A friend had turned me on to this as he had problem algae and this did great work in a matter of days. Water changes and good husbandry would do the same though... I wouldnt buy this again but i wouldnt discourage you from buying it since it is available at the major pet store chains and replacement parts/units are available and its cheap.

Hagen Marina L.E.D Light Only

Marina Single Light Unit with 6-Foot Cord, BlueJust a warning to other aquarists who may be interested in purchasing this blue light for moonlight in your aquarium. It is not a piece that can be purchased on its own, you must buy the adapter plug to actually be able to power the light. Mine is sitting in its box until I buy A SEPARATE PIECE that serves ONLY as a wall plug. No where on the product description does it tell you that. Now I have to decide whether to spend another ten dollars on a plug, or return the light and get something else that I can actually use.

I originally purchased 3 of these in white over a year ago and they are still working great! I set the blue ones up this past weekend and they look spectacular! The beam of light is softer under water but it mimics natural beams of moonlight. They work well to illuminate the bottom of my 75 gallon freshwater aquarium so I can observe my nocturnal fish. I also have a 4"+ red eared slider turtle in the tank and he tried to pick apart the lights and they stood up to him! So they are quite tough.

Buy Hagen Marina L.E.D Light Only Now

Unlike the picture used in the description the packaging my daughter's light came in has 2 large yellow labels indicating "Transformer not included". Had I known that I never would have purchased this product. What good is a light with a six foot cord and nothing to plug it in to? First time I've ever been burned by Amazon, although I blame Hagen for forgetting to add this tiny detail to their product description.

Update:

I contacted Hagen to get the part number for the transformer and they sent me one at no cost. Can't say enough about their customer service. Now that we can use the light it works fairly well for what it is. It is a small LED light for a small tank. Suction cup holds the light in place well.

Colormax T8 Lamp

Aqueon Aqueon 00451 24-Inch Colormax T8 Fluorescent Lamp, 17-WattGot this light and it never work. I even bought a new light thinking it was the issue and the light bulb still didn't work. Ended up getting another bulb. Not worth sending back but lesson learned!

After installing my new aquarium light, it lasted a whole 3 days. Installed on Wednesday night, as I walked by my aquarium Sunday morning, I noticed that the light wasn't on. (I have my lights on timers.) I lifted the hood and the light was very hot, and smelled hot as well. It may have just been a faulty light, but my experience wasn't good.

I would NEVER purchase this product again. My original purchase was for four lights, upon arriving I placed a bulb on my aquarium and it did not work. So I checked all the lights to be sure. Two of the four lights worked, so I sent the two lights back. One of the other lights burn out in less then one week. Such a lousy product. Very disappointed.

Rectangle coffee table aquarium, completely fish ready with hidden filter and LED lightsI needed an aquarium with a small footprint and good capacity. This product was a good choice. It was shipped promptly and safely. The reason this is not a 5 star review...a lack of instructions for the filter system.

Como 3 PCS Aquarium Fish Tank Orange Plastic Floating Goldfish Ornament

Como 3 PCS Aquarium Fish Tank Orange Plastic Floating Goldfish OrnamentI was hoping for fake fish that varied slightly in weight, that would float at different levels in the aquarium. These all float at the top. It might have been packaged better, too. 1 fish was fine. The other two did not have the fins attached. One could be re-attached, the other went in the trash.

If you are looking for replacement fish that bob around in fake aquariums these are it. After much looking and buying the wrong thing I took a chance on these.

Happily these are the same fish in the fake aquariums.

I received these fish yesterday and I must say that I am really disappointed with the way they look. The eyes are just black dots and they are solid orange and there is no color variation like the picture online. Sad, because I was really excited about receiving these because of the online picture. I will still use them, but really happy I purchased other colorful fish for my project.

After reading the reviews on these I ordered two sets as so many said one was broken when it arrived. Mine were all fine. I got these for a small fountain and when I put them in the water the flow of water would cause them to bunch together. I got out some nickels, fish line and hot glue gun. Cut the lines and glue one end to a fish one to a nickel. They look really good in my fountain, hard to tell they are not real at first glance. Being that the line is about five to six inch in lenght they still swim around a little but do not bunch up.

Package contained just 2 1/2 fish upon arrival. Only 1 side of third fish. They floated on top far about a day then sank to the bottom to stay. Now they lay there and collect other fish. Very dissapointing.

I recommend this!

This item smells toxic. I returned it without putting it in my aquarium. I kept a similar product I purchased from the same company that smelled just as bad and I did everything I could to remove the smell. Soaked it in a bucket for days, ran it through the dishwasher, scrubbed it with Dawn. Nothing helped. I finally put it in a closet. I've had it for over a month and there is no reduction in smell. I don't believe there will ever be time when the smell of the material goes away.

This fake anemone was sold to me by Given-Arts, which is a good seller, and I know that some of their products are great. The cush-ball style fake anemones they sell do not smell bad and are tank safe so don't write them off entirely. I put one in my tank and it didn't hurt the fish. Given-Arts refunded my money promptly for the bad smelling item but refused to pay shipping since they insisted their products are safe for fish and I don't have proof they are not. The customer service was responsive and friendly.

Hydor Koralia Nano 425 Aquarium Circulation Pump 425 GPH

Hydor Koralia Nano 425 Aquarium Circulation Pump 425 GPHI have to say that this circulation pump is amazing. Packs a lot of punch for something the size of an egg, and it's small size is what makes it so great. With the magnet base to attach it you can basically mount this thing anywhere in the aquarium. I originally bought it to add to my AquaClear Powerhead 400 for some extra flow but I was so happy with the performance, size, and neat clean look inside the tank that I have decided to retire my old bulky powerhead and replace it by ordering another Koralia Nano 425. I have a 29 gallon BioCube and I believe 2 of them will give the perfect amount of flow for my corals. Very happy with this product and I highly reccomend it.

This works very well for my 37 Gallon. It really is quite and creates just enough circulation in my aquarium to keep the water moving nicely. I wouldn't say it does an excellent job eliminating all the "dead spots" in the tank but the fish seem much happier and my feather duster looks so nice flowing in the current.

The size is perfect for small aquariums and hides nicely next to my filter so it really isn't obtrusive.

I am considering getting a second one just to increase the flow and rid the tank of all dead spots.. I haven't decided yet but I love the product and this was the best price I found it for :)

Buy Hydor Koralia Nano 425 Aquarium Circulation Pump 425 GPH Now

This is a nice addition to any reef tank. It's fairly small and nearly silent. It's easy to setup and adjust using the magnet. The reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because there is no adjustment for fan speed, it's all or nothing and nothing in between which would be nice in case you want to dial down the force a bit. Another nice addition would be an on/off switch, but that's not as critical. The built quality of the unit is nice. I definitely would recommend this over the Koralia 1 since this is a more compact unit and gives the same amount of force.

Read Best Reviews of Hydor Koralia Nano 425 Aquarium Circulation Pump 425 GPH Here

This unit moves a lot of water in a broad, gentle path. The magnetic base works well; the unit is easy to reposition. The cord isn't bulky and is plenty long. The design is low-profile and much more attractive than your average power-head. So far no "suck-in" fatalities with my inverts I've even observed snails crawling over the housing without any apparent problem. Not as fully adjustable as I had hoped to achieve the optimum direction, but once set it stays put.

Kent Marine PhytoPlex

Kent Marine 00554 PhytoPlex, 8-Ounce BottleMy Xenia loves this stuff. Keep in the fridge to keep it fresh it does have an odor if you don't.

I used a disposable pipette to target feed my four frags of coral with this product and it was as if they doubled in size in minutes. Sounds crazy, I know, but it is like the coral was on caffeine! They perked up and the colors were brighter and just look ten times better than when I bought them from my local fish store. I have been using it for only a few days so growth rate I am unsure of but so far it is phenomenal. Definitely a great product for coral.

Aquarium Wood - Large

Aquarium Wood - LargeI read the only other review of this item about white fuzz growing on the wood, and thought, ehhh, how bad can it be? I soaked this wood for 3 days to get it to sink, still had to tie it to a rock. After 24 hours in my aquarium, I started to get the aforementioned white fuzz. It then grew into full on slime balls on the cut ends and a thick blanket of fuzzy goo all over the wood, especially in all indentions. I pulled it out, boiled it in a large pot for over 30 minutes. I thought, surely this will kill the white fuzz. As soon as i put it back in the aquarium, now it started to leach tannins...and the fuzz came back within 48 hours. So now I have yellow water and white fuzz. I gave up on this product and pulled it out of my tank. Now I have an algae bloom to treat. Finally, after 20+ days, this "hairy" ordeal is over, and so is my use for this product.

I ordered this piece of aquarium wood, having not seen it. That was a little hard to go for, but i did and now it looks awesome in my 40 tall. When it got here it had a little piece of one of the branches broken off but i couldn't find which one. Probably should have been packaged with peanuts not those big bags of air. Also, when I stuck this thing in my tank it floated and a few days later it started to grow some white fuzz. But I purchased some cycling fish a that i didn't care about and they ate it off. This piece of wood was wierd because it didn't produce any tanis, but hey I'm not complaining. All in all this would have been a 5 rating if i just would have had a little heads up about the fuzz. But now that I know what I'm instore for I'm probably going to get more.

Hope this will help with your decision.

Picotope 3 Gallon Aquarium Kit

Picotope 3 Gallon Aquarium KitThis is a real nice tank & being glass puts it in a class by itself. It has a great light which is good for reefs or live freshwater plants, the only thing is it could have a better filter, just my opinion, but it left my water cloudy, I put in a canister filter and its now gin clear!. But the over all tank is really nice, I am on here cause I'm buying another one.

I used this aquarium in my college dorm and it was great. The blue light though not too bright was definitely good for plant growth. I only gave it four stars because this aquarium does not come with a lid. I solved the problem by going to a local glass shop and ordering a custom fitted lid.

Hagen Marina 2In1 Fish Net Breeder

Hagen Marina 2In1 Fish Net BreederI picked this up for an injured betta I found at the pet store. (They put him with juvenile parrot fish and convicts.) Anyways I put him in this so he'd be closer to the surface.

He did end up dying due to his injuries, despite medications.

I took this and ran/soaked it in hot water.

Now it houses 2 guppy fry in the 20 gallon tank. There is hornwort in it and my young guppies are happy.

This allows the water to move in the net breeder, but doesn't allow for the fry to escape! :)

I would definitely recommend this product!
