Fluval Carbon, 100-gram Nylon Bags - 3-Pack
I only use it in tanks that I need to clear medication out, or have inserted some wood that is releasing tannins and making the water dingy. In an ongoing bassis, my filters don't include carbon. However, I like having some on hand just in case. These prepackaged bags are handy and great to use when needed.

This product is the most amazing thing I ever found. I put it in place of the filter bag and in 4 days our tank went from dark green to perfectly clear. I recomend this to evry and anyone who is looking to clear up their fish tank. The tank is clean and the semll is absoulty gone. I love it and would totally recomend this carbon with all sincerity!-RyanThese do the trick well every now and then I'll plop them into the tank just to clear up the water a bit and aid in removing some of the freshwater smells...

Fluval Nano Aquarium Filter
As for circulation....you will have plenty. It is a pretty powerful little filter and creates a strong current when fully open. The beauty is that it has a little plastic valve that controls the flow and works very well once it is set. Setting it is another point of frustration....but once you get it, you won't have to play around with it and you can forget it. I tried several different mounting options both horizontally and vertically and finally settled on the traditional vertical mount. I also bought the carbon inserts....pretty much a waste of money and I got pieces of carbon on my white sand. A MAJOR pain. I am not deducting from this rating, because it is not part of this set up, but rather an optional purchase. Still, if your tank is cloudy, chances are you need a good amount of activated carbon....here's a tip. Get an old nylon stocking, tie one end. place enough carbon to fill the slot and tie the other end. Easy and cheap and very functional Don't forget to rinse it a bit before putting it into the tank. The little cartridges are just not enough and too expensive.
I did have a problem with sound as well, as if it were grinding gears, but I think the problem was air. I completely submersed the filter, and angled it to make sure all the air got it, and sure enough, no more grinding sound. I will also mention that this was one of those VERY rare times that I did not look to Amazon first and bought this at a local (well known) "pet company." Serves me right and lesson relearned...Amazon has it for half the price and free shipping!
This is very quiet as long as everything stays FULLY submersed. I like the filter box, as you can put your own media in it, which I recommend, as I mentioned with the activated carbon. If anything changes, I will update. So far, I like it!This filter works fine for a small tank but the high flow rate bothers my fish. If you turn down the valve, it causes the motor to buzz annoyingly. Next time I will buy a tank capable of taking an external canister filter. But if you need a cheap in-tank filter this one will do the job.
Buy Fluval Nano Aquarium Filter Now
I bought this at a local aquarium store in hopes of replacing my Marina S10 Slim profile filter for my 5 gallon shrimp tank. It was too large to fit upright in the tank and the flow was far too strong for my shrimp. The flow is adjustable but when I turned it down it rattled so loudly that I thought something was broken. I then moved it to my 10-gallon hospital tank and again the flow was so strong that the fish constantly struggled to not be swept away. (I did have a few ill/weak fish get stuck to the intake and expire.) I have turned the flow down and have that annoying rattle in the kitchen where my hospital tank is located. (****Update: After three weeks the filter finally quieted down, probably because water flow is more impeded by matter in the filter media. I raised the rating to three stars from two now that it does not sound like a train is going through my kitchen.)In the future I am going to buy a mini canister filter (either the ZooMed 501 turtle canister filter or the TOM aquarium mini rapids canister) for my smaller tanks in order to have the spray bar and better filtration for my planted tanks.
Also, the filter cannot be moved while it is on; the portion that contains filter media falls off very easily if the filter is plugged in. Both parts of the filter are stuck to the glass with suction cups but they are no longer attached to each other, and trying to put them back together with the filter running is impossible.
I would not recommend this for anything smaller than a 15-gallon tank. The flow is far too strong for most creatures that would live in a nano tank.
I like Fluval products but I do not recommend this one.

This exact same filter came with my Fluval Ebi tank.*The actual media included in the unit comes with a large thin sponge layer followed by 2 more sponge layers...no biological or chemical filtration is included although it is possible to custom fill the media chambers with your own mix.
*The motor is attached MAGNETICALLY to the media chamber...needless to say that means this thing pops open in half quite often, releasing waste products and dirty water back into the tank every single time you want to move the filter around or take it out for cleaning.
*Popped the filter in after scaping the tank and wanted to use it to clear the water of the substrate that got kicked up, it's rated for tanks up to 15 gallons and with the Ebi being a 9 gallon tank it's technically more filter than you actually need...have had the thing running for about 12 hours now and the water is STILL extremely dark and murky...the stock AC20 that came on my Edge cleared the water to almost crystal clarity in 30 minutes.
*Uses a spray bar design to supposedly re-direct water current so as to not disturb sensitive fish and plants, except that when the waterflow is set to low it sounds like a bucket of gravel that got tossed into a food processor and when it's set to high it actually creates just as much if not more water disruption than other filters and because this thing is designed for smaller tanks (specifically nanos) that totally negates the entire point of having a difficult to clean spray bar.
*Impossible to put a sponge or bio-bag over the filter intake to protect fish fry and baby shrimps.
At $15 this thing is a flaming rip off when there's literally dozens of cheaper and better designed filters out there, like the AC20 which is only $3 more but about 300x the filter that this thing is. Hagen usually makes amazing products and I am a huge fan of their Fluval line of nano tanks and accessories but there is seriously no excusing how piss poor this product was designed and priced. I wouldn't even take it for free.
If for whatever reason you *MUST* have an anemic internal filter that's grossly overpriced buy this product..otherwise do the smart thing and get yourself a decent hang-on-back filter.

I have 2 in my 5 gallon tank one with mixed media and the other with Seachem Purigen only my water is crystal clear (fresh water). Silent operation in general. I think the top valve connector could be a bit better, however, it has held up without issue on both after several months 24/7.This is a nice simple clean product that works. I tried the whisper line, and this is a much better solution for a small fresh water set. I suspect you could ladder several for up to 25 gallons...?
Well made, suction is very aggressive, no breakdowns at all. Perfect small tank can filter.

Algone Aquarium Water Clarifier and Nitrate Remover, Large
For a few weeks I didn't notice much, though I kept swapping the pouch every five or six days. But over a month or so the algae began a retreat and then pretty well disappeared altogether. It's now several months later, I haven't seen any in ages. I still have to clean the glass once a month, or so, to get rid of some hard stuff on the glass, but the algae on the plants and everywhere else is just gone. Best of all, the tank no longer smells like algae (or anything else, for that).
This stuff works!I used this product several times to lower some really high nitrate levels in my tank. It does a pretty good job. The only thing I don't like is that you have to replace it every 5 days which means shutting off my canister filter and opening it up and replacing it. That's the only down side to it.

I ordered this Mini Bio Balls because I wanted to put more bio filtration in two fish tanks. Its hard to tell at first that they was working but after I made 1 of my tanks just biological filtration I would tell it was working just fine. If you are looking to add more bio to your tanks the balls provide a lot of surface area for the size of the ballThe box says 225 but there were only 196. I bought this because of the other reviewers on Amazon.com. His extra bio balls must have been from my box because mine was short. These bio balls are tiny. I don't this this it worth $15 (which is what I paid). BOught it as a replacement for the glass CO2 diffusers, but I'm not very happy. CO2 is 'collected' and then released as large bubbles of CO2. I tried all settings/flow rates, but can't get it right. Uses a lot of CO2 for the same result as the glass diffusers (note. Got a 80 gallon, densely planted fish tank)I ordered thisone for my dad for his 135 gal tank. At first I thought it doesn't work, I couldn't see any bubbles coming out like from the glass difusers, but dad said that's what it's supposed to do. You can actually see it work, I little whirlpool inside it. We planted the tank yesterday and the reactor isn't there for even 24hrs and is just perfect and all plants are producing lots of oxygen. I hope it will stay as good as we think it is.Want Red Sea Fish Pharm ARER51034 Aquarium CO2 Reactor Pump Plant Care Products, 500-Liter Discount?
I usually don't post reviews but I saw the ones for this product and felt I had to post my thoughts. I own two of these reactors and use them in a 200gal heavy planted community tank. I use a 10 lb. bottle of co2 and ph monitor to control the regulator. I can push about 5 bubbles per second max and the two diffusers eat it up. If you are having problems with yours it because you didn't set it up correctly. Your flow is two high or you got bad gas pressure.Friday, February 21, 2014
Python No Spill Clean and Fill Aquarium Maintenance System, 75-Feet
The directions are easy to follow~ even for people like me, who are "direction impaired."I have a python for at least 25 years and would never part with it. I bought this one for my priest who is setting up a 55 gallon in his office. He has two smaller tanks and using buckets doesn't bother him. I suggested he try this because using buckets for water changes in anything bigger that a 20 gallon was no fun and would get to be a chore, putting off doing much needed gravel cleaning and water changing.
This thing is so easy to use and makes cleaning your grave and changing water a breeze. I enjoy my fish so much more because I don't have the water mess and sore back from carrying buckets. Water changes are so easy and quick that you will be apt to do them on a regular schedule.
Your fish will thank you. Clean water and gravel means less disease. This is a must have tool for anyone serious about keeping your fish healthy.

This is an excellent product. If you are tired of lugging buckets of water back and forth while cleaning your aquarium, and making huge messes, walking in puddles, etc..and taking hours to clean even relatively small tanks, this product is for you. Don't waste your money on cheap suction devices, and buy the python today! (sorry if I sound like an infomercial, I'm just an enthusiastic user). The python attaches to your faucet, you turn the water on full blast, stick the suction tube end into your tank, and you can drain your tank in minutes, or just vacuum your gravel and do partial water changes. Then, you flick a switch and you can fill your tank back up (again, in minutes). I have 2 29 nine gallons and a 10 gallon, as well as a 15 gallon turtle tank, and what used to take me a whole day, now takes about an hour (to do all tanks). I like that I can vacuum the gravel, boy does this thing suck the waste up. This will also prolong the use of your filters and make your tank look great! I was skeptical that this product would work, but am so glad that I bought it. Now I actually enjoy maintaing my tanks instead of dreading it.The directions are easy to follow~ even for people like me, who are "direction impaired."

Daily Double Feeder II w/ FREE Fish Food
This is not a precision instrument, but that was okay. In fact I think the mechanism is the same as a little AA-battery travel-clock, but instead of the hands of a clock it turns a drum which you load with food. A scoop/chute inside the drum can be adjusted so that its angle scoops up a little more or less food on each rotation, depending on your needs. Then, as the drum rotates, that amount of food gets dropped out the chute end which you've carefully positioned over your tank through a couple of days of observation. You have to allow for an opening of a couple of inches in your hood because it drops the food all along the last couple of inches of its rotation, which is fine. Actually this came in handy because I was using it over a smaller tank and at the lowest portion setting it wasn't really working with my food mix, so I had to go with a higher portion setting which would have been way too much food for my small tank. Solution? Aiming the device so it dropped a bunch of the food to the side of the hood opening, just allowing some of it to fall into the tank. Definitely allow a couple of days' practice with the device before you go away. I placed a tin foil "cup" in the hole of my hood to catch the food at different settings and at different positions until I was happy with both the reliability of the scooping mechanism and the amount that was being caught in the cup (which would become the amount delivered to my fish once I removed it, but you have to experiment). I used two of these feeders on a couple of small 5 gallon tanks for a week, and all fish survived. One worked perfectly and the water was even clear upon my return. The other I'd aimed a little "off" and the water was cloudy (too much food delivered) but my fancy goldfish Mugsy was alive and well, just needed a partial water changed and a bunch of food vacuumed off the floor around his tank.
The device is probably of greater value to a larger tank where the full amount of food it dispenses reliably will be readily consumed by the larger number of fish. I did not get to use this in my 20 gallon tank as I had someone willing to check it and do feedings, but my sense is that it would have been fine there.
Final verdict? It works okay. Experiment till you know the device inside and out with your particular food and tank setup. It's not difficult, just time consuming because to see it actually operate you need to let it run at its own pace. (Turning it by hand gave me different results than watching it in action.) If you are torn between the reliability of an auto-feeder and a well-meaning fish sitter friend, set up the feeder to dispense the bare minimum to keep your tank alive, then have your friend check in, say twice a week with instructions on feeding one small portion each visit if the fish seem hungry and the water seems clear. (Although if you have such a friend, you may not even need to use a feeder at all.)
Remember, the feeder delivers food twice a day no matter what, so set the portions to half of what you want your fish to eat every day, and they get that twice each day (remember: clock mechanism).
Good luck!I've been using these for about 10 years now, and they work very well.
Good for about 2 years.
Be careful opening food chamber as the plastic tabs are made very cheaply and will break if you bend to far.
Again,, it is made as about cheap as you can make a product but, it will rotate twice a day for about 2 years, and only on about 3 battery changes.

Good weighted base.
Well worth the money.I gave it 3 stars because it does not look entirely real. In fact I decided to leave them out of my aquarium. They look better than most fake plant decor but don't mistaken this as something that looks indistinguishable from the real thing. It's good but not fool proof.

Jardin Plastic Aquarium Fish Tank Grass Plants Ornament Décor, 2-Piece, Purple
This one was such a surprise for it was unlike any other plastic plant decor for fish tanks I've seen, felt and realized that fish tank plants vary in quality. It not only has a vivid color that stands out in the tank, but it's leaves/petals had an exquisite feel maleable, soft, pliable...it felt like heaven. If you want quality in your aqauriums, Jardin's products will not disappoint. I have a couple other reviews for plants I got from them, and another manufacturer that is close to Jardin's in quality, so look up any reviews I have posted regarding fish tank plant and misc. decor.

I purchased these plants to add color to my fresh water aquarium along with a little bit of height. My initial reaction when opening was that the color was great as described by other reviewers. However I was surprised at how flimsy they were I was expecting the stem of the plant to be more taught/stiff to keep the plant standing upright. They were essentially rolled up in a ball in the packaging. While a bit apprehensive I put them into the aquarium and they stood rather straight once in the water. I suppose I would describe it as the plants have some natural looking sway or hang to them. I ordered two packages of two (4 total) and placed them near a rock creating some great cover for my fish. They love to swim through the opening in the rock and hide out in the cave like cover I have created by spacing out the plants and allowing them to hang in toward the center.Love these. They look great in our 20 gallon, adds a lot of color. They're pretty tall but they worked out well. Better than expected. :)Want Jardin Plastic Aquarium Fish Tank Grass Plants Ornament Décor, 2-Piece, Purple Discount?
I bought some of these and was amazed at how long they are. I had to cut some of it to make it look decent in my turtle tank. The colors are also amazing. It makes my tank look so natural and it adds beauty to it at the same time. What i liked the most was that it did not float everywhere. You just throw it in and it will sink to tje bottom. No rocks or gravel needed. But if you have turtles...you might need some rocks XD MY turtles seem to love this plant. My smallest turtle, Toity, loves to hang on to it and swim around it like every 3 seconds. Really love this product and will be buying more plants in the future :}Thursday, October 10, 2013
