Exotic Environments Mangrove Tree Trunk Floral Aquarium Ornament

Exotic Environments Mangrove Tree Trunk Floral Aquarium OrnamentI read the reviews and was expecting it to be smaller then what it decribed and to have sharp edges, it is huge, it takes up a lot of space in my 35 gallon hexagon tank which is what i wanted as the main orniment. I didnt find any serious sharp edges, some minor edges that can be easly sanded down.

Zoo Med Laboratories AZMFA31 Sinking Poly Resin Aqualog, Large

Zoo Med Laboratories AZMFA31 Sinking Poly Resin Aqualog, LargeI've had this log for nearly 3 weeks. My hoplo is loving it. He spends most of the time in it (Except when he's playing or eating).

The log is realistic. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because when I was removing it from the tank for cleaning, I grabbed it by the top opening and my thumb made a whole on the top part of it. It's no big deal as the whole is barely visible, but it should be more resistant in the top. The main log body feels sturdy, but in the inside there are some edges which feel kind of sharp. This doesn't worry me since the only one that enter it is my hoplo, but other fishes like fancy goldfish or bettas might hurt themselves in it. I don't really know why someone would buy a log for their goldfish, but whatever... Just a warning.

It gives my tank a really good look (More natural). If you complement it with some plants and sand, it will look amazing!

I would buy it again if I had to.

Instant Ocean Brine Shrimp - 2.82 oz. Soft Gel

Instant Ocean Brine Shrimp - 2.82 oz. Soft GelI purchased this for my clownfish, goby, and damsel and they don't like it. It comes out of the package in a glob and quickly sinks to the bottom and the hermit crabs end up eating it.

i like this because its quick and easy, although bangai cardinals don't seem to care for it. clowns and trigger love it.

Buy Instant Ocean Brine Shrimp - 2.82 oz. Soft Gel Now

There is a reason they put instructions on the package. Cut a small tip of the corner and squeeze little drops into the tank. I leave my powerheads on, when this stuff gets shot across the tank the fish fight for it. My problem with it is if you cut the package a little to large and a glob of it falls out it drops to the floor and stays there. I only hope my emerald crabs or hermits eat it otherwise it would cause a problem. Follow the instructions, little drops and you will be fine. I feed it twice per week to fish and corals.

This product is exactly as described by Instant Ocean. I've used many of their products in my reef tanks and quality is of extreme importance. I've used frozen brine too, but this is more convenient and vitamin enriched. All of my fish love it.

EHEIM Fine Filter Pad (White) for Classic External Filter 2215 (3 Pieces)

EHEIM Fine Filter Pad for Classic External Filter 2215I learned on an aquarium forum that these fluval filters are a perfect substitute:

Fluval FX5 Fine Filter Polishing Pad 3-Pack

I like my 2215 canister, and the eheim filter pad is very good. However the Fluval pad is also high quality, identical size, and far less expensive.

These do a fabulous job on my tank. helps keep the water crystal clear. Shipping was super fast WOW!!! I will order them again

Well...I bought this to polish my water as I can't find any other way to get this kind of pad. This pad are very good and compact and well made. But it only comes in 3 pack and won't last long when I do my 3 month maintances.

I bought a pack and later never bought them again cause I found a much better and money saving rolls of filter floss almost like this which I have not even done using.

API Liquid Super Ick Cure

API Liquid Super Ick Cure, 4-OunceI tried this based on store staff recommendation. 2 days later I had 2 fish instead of 7 fish. The ich is gone, but just as likely because I raised the tank temp to 82F as the directions on the bottle suggest. When I went back to the store, two other staff told me it was not a great product. They also told me that raising the tank temp so high in a short time (as in 1 degree per hour) was bad for the fish.

i agree with everyone else, had a clown loach with ich while the rest of the tank was so far spared. this killed all my neon tetras, teh other fish seem to be doing ok so far but i would not buy this again, would not recommend it

Buy API Liquid Super Ick Cure Now

I tried this product because it was recommended by my local fish store to cure my rummy red nose tetra since i noticed the white spots all over their body and is getting worse. I separate them, put them in a different container and used half the dose. with in a day 1 out of 6 died. then i added another half dosage to make it a full dose and 2 more died (1 died instantly, the other with in 2 hrs.) So i change the water with clean water and they seems to be doing better (still weak and white spots but at least not swimming upside down.) im giving this a 2 star instead if 1 because for some odd reason it worked on one of the fish (no more white spots) but i think the rest aren't going to make it.

Over all, it doesnt work well to cure fish of those annoying white spots and might end up killing them instead.

oh by the way, on the back it says " WARNING: this product contains chemical know to the state of California to cause CANCER" if it can cause cancer in California, it probably can cause cancer where you are live too. I'm planning on tossing this product out, after i find a way to dispose it correctly (i dont want cancer causing chemicals laying around)

i followed as bottle described for my 2 clown loach's. One of them had it bad. On the 5th day i didn't see anymore ick. Clown loach are acting as all is well. I suggest to use a hospital tank with this product because.the medication turns the glue on the tank blue...suction cups as well pretty much anything plastic or rubber will turn blue. If my fish ever get ick again Im turning to api super ick cure.

Marina Power Filter

Marina S10 Power FilterThis filter came in an aquarium set that I purchased recently. It is an awesome filter. Very quiet, very thin! The impeller motor is inside the tank so it takes up less behind the wall space. It is by no means bulky in the tank though! There is an adjustable flow to regulate the amount of current it produces, and also there is a coarse sponge on the intake which is nice for preventing fry from being sucked into the filter. I also like the choice of carbon and ammonia reducing chips for the inserts. It is extremely easy to assemble this filter. All in all worth every penny!

I've had this filter for about a month, and my fish seem to be doing much better with the dispersed flow. Unlike other filters, the flow from the Marina S10 seems to diffuse across the slide. This creates less current and less stress on the fish. As a bonus, I can turn down the flow level during feeding times so all the food doesn't shoot across the top of the aquarium.

The fish in my 10 gallon tank did not appreciate the heavy current created by my old Tetra Whisper filter. Sure, the Whisper did an excellent job filtering waste, but it also stressed out the fish. This filter does as good a job filtering waste and eliminating ammonia, and doesn't stress the fish!

I'm giving this filter 5 stars because it is best-in-class for 10-gallon tanks. No other filters provide as sleek a look; no other filters come with a built-in flow regulator (that I can find....), and no other filters have as peaceful a current for my fish, frog, and shrimp.

Buy Marina Power Filter Now

I've had this filter 4 months, and really like it. My tank is viewable from both sides, so the streamlined shape is great hanging on the end. The width (7 in) might not be so great if you are hanging it on the back without a background.

The filter is silent. Not quiet, silent. I have to check for ripples to know if it's on. It comes with an intake sponge, so you don't have to buy one if you have shrimp or fry. The size of the motor and intake (with sponge) inside the tank is about equal to a PennPlax SmallWorld filter I had for a while. I don't think it takes up too much tank space.

It's like a cross between an external HOB and an internal filter. The motor is on the intake and the media is outside. The motor is submerged, so does not have to be primed each time you unplug it. The downside is that it's an electrical motor with wire going into the water, so you should unplug it before you stick your hand in the tank, when you clean etc. The submerged motor means the hang-on-back part is all one piece of plastic, no washers or connections to leak.

Media being on the outside of the tank is easy to replace. I don't use the inserts because I don't want to have carbon in the filter all the time. AquaClear 20 media bags fit easily in the sections. I've used BioMax and carbon, and now have 2 BioMax bags in one section and a cut to size filter pad in the other. Purigen 100 mL fits (barely) but slows the flow.

I believe it's a 55gph filter, which is plenty for my 5.5 gallon. I like that the flow is adjustable. It does not have a lot of surface agitation -I get some protein scum even with it on full. Still, I think it's a great filter and the flexiblity appeals to me. I'd buy it again gladly.

I bought this to replace my Tetra Whisper, which was beginning to whisper rather loudly. Assembly was a little complicated, but maybe I wouldn't have thought so if I hadn't felt hurried because my Tetra had crapped out soon after the Marina S10 arrived.I'm very happy with this, and my only complaint is one I read elsewhere, that the plastic lid rattles and makes a buzzing noise. I simply removed don't use the lid, and the only noise I hear is the gentle flow of the filtered water back into the tank. It does seem to aerate the water much more than the Tetra did as well. Overall, very pleased. A good value.

One more thing: This unit takes two filters, and it shipped with two, but one is designed for goldfish ("Bio Clear") and the other for tripical fish ("Bio Carb "). I was glad I ordered extra ones for goldfish so I could place two of those in from the start. I think it would be better if Marina gave you the choice at point of purchase or include two of each.

Coralife 77270 3X Turbo-Twist Pond Clarifier , 9-Watt

Coralife 77270 3X Turbo-Twist Pond Clarifier , 9-WattI wasn't protecting coral with the Twist Clarifier, so more robust chemical anti-bacterials were available to me. 1) the bulb doesn't last very long & 2) it was inadequate used alone, forcing me to support the clarifier with chemical anti-bacterials. If you can use chemicals, they'll be more effective. If you can't, better to select a stronger UV source to improve effectiveness.

Silent Air® X Series Aquarium Air Pumps, 2-Outlet, UL Listed

Silent-Air® X5 Air Pump, 2-Outlet - Up to 80 GallonsI use this air pump on a 112 gallon tank with Koi and Plecos, it provides enough air for a 5" air disc and a 12" long air-stone and after running for many months non-stop it's still pumping out a great amount of air, I was just expecting it to pump a little more than it does. However, that isn't stopping me from purchasing a second one for one of my other aquariums that has a noisy air pump, and a second for my large aquarium. I would definitely recommend these pumps, you'll barely know it's there. They do work best when placed above water level though so keep that in mind.

UPDATE 08-11-10

I bought two of these pumps and they have been running non-stop for over 2 years without fail. I would buy more of these in a heartbeat.

It works but it isn't silent. The sound it makes is a vibration rumble. It is the quietest air pump I've encountered. If the noise still bothers you run the air hose from a closet. If it still bothers you get some aquarium plants. I've never had a problem with them making too much noise.

Buy Silent Air® X Series Aquarium Air Pumps, 2-Outlet, UL Listed Now

I have had this pump running for about a year and find myself quite satisfied. The pump pumps air through an almost 48inch bubble wall hose and the other hook up currently just off gases as we don't need it at this time. Over all the pump is fairly quiet as long as it is balance properly. If the pump becomes unbalanced or leans against something it becomes quite loud as it vibrates quite a bit.

Read Best Reviews of Silent Air® X Series Aquarium Air Pumps, 2-Outlet, UL Listed Here

I have had this air pump for 6 months and it has been rock solid.

I keep this air pump inside a cabinet, so any noise is minimal. For the price, I found it to be more powerful and quiet than the air pumps I have purchased at my local stores (Tetra Whisper and Rena Air).

Even though it is rated for "aquariums up to 75 gallons," this pump outperformed a Tetra Whisper Air Pump rated for up to 100 gallons (and the Tetra broke after less than a year).

The 6 Watt power supply for this air pump is what you should use to compare it to other brands. The Rena Air 300 only comes with a 4 Watt power supply, even though both it and the Silent-Air® X5 are "rated" for tanks up to 75 gallons. The Tetra Whisper Air Pump for up to 100 gallon tanks only has a 4.8 Watt power supply.

Want Silent Air® X Series Aquarium Air Pumps, 2-Outlet, UL Listed Discount?

ALTHOUGH I AM JUST A SMIGGIN DISAPPOINTED OVER THE SOUND, OVERALL IT IS A GREAT AIR PUMP. IT STATES IN THE ABOUT SECTION THAT IT IS QUIET, BUT ITS NOT AS QUIET AS IT COULD BE. THE PREVIOUS AIR PUMP I HAD WAS QUIETER. MY TANK IS IN THE FAMILY ROOM WHERE WE HAVE THE TV LOCATED, AND SOMETIMES THE PUMP OVER RUNS THE TV DEPENDING ON VOLUME, BUT OVER ALL IT ISNT SO ANNOYING WHERE I HAVE HAD TO BUY A NEW ONE. I HAVE NOTICED THOUGH THAT THIS PUMP COMPARED TO MY LAST ONE REALLY ADDS MORE AIR VOLUMN INTO THE TANK (MEANING MORE BUBBLES)

Fluval 1 Plus Foam Insert, 2-Pack

Fluval 1 Plus Foam Insert, 2-PackThis is simply a foam filter that removes most refuse from the water. It stays operational for a fair amount of time considering the volume and number of critters. While other filters are more effective, here you get what you pay for: a simple, easy to clean filter that gets rid of most of the "yucks".

Nice excellent filter at a nice price easy to install. Filter does what it's suppose to do as long as you follow installation instructions you should have no problems with this product.

Buy Fluval 1 Plus Foam Insert, 2-Pack Now

I use the 1 Plus filter in a small tank with 3 small-to-medium turtles in it. While the filter is incredibly easy to clean, it requires cleaning about three times as often as the other filters I've used, making it about even with other filter options.

As a replacement insert, it can't get much easier pop out the old and put in the new. It is also a fairly easy sponge to clean, even when really mucky, but the sponge gets less effective dramatically quicker than other filter foam. With one critter or several clean ones, this won't be a big deal, but multiple critters will make this otherwise-great filter average.

These are great filters considering how small these are they work quite well. They can be rinsed and used over and over again (rinse with water that has been declorinated and no ammonia) and it acts also as a BIO filter!

Kent Marine 00616 35-Inch Pro-Scraper with Stainless Steel Blade

Kent Marine 00616 35-Inch Pro-Scraper with Stainless Steel BladeWe have a problem with stubborn hair algea and this scraper worked great. We could scrub it and scrub it with the magnet kinds and it would get stuck in it and you'd do the same spot over and over again. This scraper knocked it out in no time. Extra long length makes it a breeze getting down the sides of tall 90 gallon. Will most likely buy a backup!

When they say 35", they mean it. Terrifically long, and able to easily scrape all of the glass on my 55 gallon without ever getting my hands wet. Truthfully, I think this might be overkill for a tank that's 24" high, but I'm very happy with this nonetheless. I have one of the short scrapers that uses the same blades, and although they do last a while, they are not permanent and you should expect to replace them every once so often (the edges tend to bend over time depending on how vigorously you scrape). Pretty happy with it.

Cal Pump SPW10 1200GPH Max Flow Rate Spillway, 10-Inch

Cal Pump SPW10 1200GPH Max Flow Rate Spillway, 10-InchThe Cal Pump SPW10 Spillway works good with a good flow rate and pushes the water out about a foot. I installed a small pond with a preformed triangle liner about a 100 gal. I needed a small spillway less than 12" to fit in. This works great where I wanted to put it. I used the 1" connector supplied and used 1" corrugated tubing I purchased locally.

The problem was with the filter. It was cut short slightly on the sides and wouldn't stay in it's slot. The water would push it forward to the opening and tend to rise and eventually come out. To correct this, I bought a piece of Matala black filter media and cut it so it is snug in the spillway. The supplied filter was more dense so I also used it behind the Matala. Now, they stay where they should. It it been about 3 weeks now and all is working great.

Kent Marine 00550 Pro Plant Freshwater Plant Growth Accelerator, 8-Ounce Bottle

Kent Marine 00550 Pro Plant Freshwater Plant Growth Accelerator, 8-Ounce BottleI read the previous reviewer recommending this for starving tanks only. I have a total of 9 plants in my tank with all of them displaying problems, so I figured it fit the criteria. I was having some issues with my plants showing signs of stress and this was recommended to me by a local fish store. As protocol when I try anything new in my tank, I monitored my water parameters closely. I used 1/4 of what was recommended because it was something new to the tank, but 12 hours after my first dose my nitrates were between 80 & 160 ppm (56 gallon tank)!!! Also my ammonia was at 0.75 ppm. My fish were in serious danger, so I immediately did a 30% water change and added Seachem Prime 500ml as usual.

I thought the error was mine as a result of possible over cleaning of the gravel the day prior which would result in a mini-cycle. I decided not to use the Kent's again until I was able to get my parameters back into order. So a week later, and 3 partial water changes my parameters were back within normal ranges again. I again tried the Kent's using 1/4 of the recommended dose. 8 hours later I tested my water again and my nitrates were again above 80 ppm, ammonia was up to 0.50 ppm and nitrites were 0.25 ppm. It was very obvious to me that it was not my water changes and cleaning causing the issue, but the Kent's. I saw no improvement in my plants, but it mostly likely had to do with me conducting quick water changes.

I don't want to say this product doesn't work because I was not able to keep it in my tank long enough. However, it is likely not suited for tanks with live stock in it. You would need a very highly planted tank. I wish it would have worked for us, but it just was not the case.

When I purchased this I didn't realize that its primary source of supplements to plants came in the form of nitrates. Nitrates are generally the result of the breakdown of waste in aquarium from uneaten fish food as well as fish waste. General rule of thumb is you don't want nitrates in your aquarium as high levels are toxic to fish.

It became apparent to me that the purpose of this product was to supplement a 'starving' tank. All live aquarium plants use nitrates as a food source. Without any nitrates the plants would die. This product is best suited for a heavily planted aquarium with few fish to lace the tank with waste products that would otherwise be broken down into nitrates that the plants would utilize.

Final answer. If you have a heavily planted tank with few fish this just may be the very thing you need. Check it out in that case. If you have a lightly planted tank with a reasonable to large amount of fish, AVOID.
