Aqueon LED Aquarium Light Fixture, 24-Inch

I have a 36 gallon bow front tank and this light fits it perfectly. To start I had a the standard day bulb along with a color bulb in but ended up taking out the color and adding another white to cut down on the amount of algae growth in my tank. I used to have a big algae problem growing on my tank lid that blocked all the light. With this fixture I wouldn't say there is no growth but it is certainly less and there is still plenty of light even when the algae starts to get thick between cleanings. I love that the bulbs can be changed out unlike other LED lights which are internal. It is nice knowing I can add up to 3 bulbs but I have to say 2 is more than sufficient for my tank. I don't use the "moon" feature but turn my light off at night but when I do turn it on there is a nice blue glow to the tank. This fixture is well worth the money and I am very happy I bought it.

Zoo Med Hermit Crab Thermometer and Humidity Gauge, Colors May Vary

I have this for my hermit crabs. The thermometer would never read over 68 degrees no matter what I did. I bought an extra heater and raised my house temp with no improvement. The tank felt warmer than my house temp so I bought a different thermometer. It registered 78 degrees on one side of the tank and 71 on the other! This thermometer is VERY inaccurate! Do not buy it! The hydrometer seems to work, but I'll be replacing that portion too just in case!

Poor quality thermometer and humidity gauge. What do you expect for the price? I expect it to at least be close to accurate. I have a digital for about a dollar more that works great. This one is hard to see and inaccurate.

Great concept having a thermometer and humidity gauge in one compact unit. Well made and it works as it says it should! The gauge is small enough not to interfere with the crab habitat. Having the color coding to warn you of too low, normal, or too high conditions is brilliant. Easy enough for my 8 year old to determine the weather conditions in the tank.

These are inexpensive but work well -for awhile anyway. This is the second one I have bought and each time one of the gauges quits working after a couple of months. Secures well to the glass, and the colors on the thermometer make it easy to read at a quick glance.

i decided to try this line of aquarium products because after reading the literature on it, it seemed the more innovative direction to take in striving for creating optimal turtle tank conditions. i have had great results with seachem's purigen, which is a "re-chargeable" substitute for carbon in your aquarium filter.....if u inow turtles, they are very dirty and consequently, i was spending a great deal on carbon, which is really just a throw away after one use. anyhow, the prime product is used when u do water changes and when i first saw the size. the bottle, it seemed so small until i read the instructions....you only use a teaspoon for 50 gallons. the combination of the seachem products is resulting in better test results on my ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels and i don't have to do as much maintenance on the filter and the tank it seems. i would heartily recommend this product and plan to continue on with ordering items in their line!!

Used it since i started a new tank, works well. The ammonia feature works somewhat, it seems to improve the fish coat. Removes chlorine well never had a chlorine problem while using this.

Must have product for all aquariums!!! The label / bottle might not look as appealing as other branded aquarium pharmaceuticals (ie. TetraFin etc.) but the product works wonders. One thing for sure is, when using this product you might show false positives in your test kits, however, do not be alarmed if you see high Ammonia / Trite / Trate readings, this product simply detoxes these for up to 24-48 hours to make it safe for fish. To get proper readings, just perform water changes weekly.

Just as a tip, I use Prime to help me with my fish in cycles.

Well...I bought this to polish my water as I can't find any other way to get this kind of pad. This pad are very good and compact and well made. But it only comes in 3 pack and won't last long when I do my 3 month maintances.

I bought a pack and later never bought them again cause I found a much better and money saving rolls of filter floss almost like this which I have not even done using.

TOM Aquarium Accessories Baby Nursery (live bearer & isolation container)

We bought this nursery when we discovered 7 very tiny orange fish floating in our tank. It works perfectly. I took out all of the dividers and the 7 little fish have more than enough room to grow safely. I put a piece of plant inside the nursery in case they wanted to seek cover. You keep the box about an inch above water so the little fish cannot sneak out. Very pleased with this product.

The product was excellent although I did not use it with the mother giving birth. By the time I ordered the product and installed it, the mother had already had the babies. I simply took out the pieces and used the nursery as a single isolation container inside the main tank to keep the babies in until they are large enough to release.

The bottom and side vents are too large. I had noticed that before using; but I had a pregnant guppy which is about to give birth and I didn't have time to look for another nursery container. So I used it. The mother gave birth to more than thirty babies. While I was happily watching them, I noticed a baby trying to hide above a big leave at the surface of the aquarium. I caught it and placed it back inside this container. Then I noticed several others are outside. While I was catching and putting them back, smaller babies were falling out from the bottom and side vents. Finally, I transferred all of them to a food storage container. Those that I couldn't catch became live food for some of the adults.

I've yet to have any fry survive this breeder. I have guppy and platy fry that survive without the use of a breeder tank in 2 of my other tanks, but one of my tanks has too many barbs and other excitable fish that usually eat up all the fry before I even know the mama has given birth. So in this one tank, I had decided to try this breeder box. I've put swordtail mamas and molly mamas in there, and so far none of the fry have survived. Some get their bodies trapped in the slits of the V, and never make it to the bottom of the breeder. The few that do make it to the bottom of the breeder get their bodies torn in half by the fish on the outside of the tank when their tails dangle thru the slits on the bottom of the breeder. So I wake up in the morning to a bunch of fish heads in the breeder. I put java moss in the box and a layer of gravel in the bottom of the breeder so that at least if the fish make it thru the V of the breeder, it might save them from the fish outside the breeder. This last time, I left out the V partition and just have gravel, a ton of java moss, and the insert that has a bunch of slits in it; only I put that in upside down, hoping the babies will at least fit thru the bigger slits. Also, the V insert is VERY hard to get out. After the last mama delivered, and there were a bunch of fry stuck in the top because their heads were too big to drop to bottom of breeder, I tried taking the V insert out while in the tank so that the babies could be in bottom of the tank. I probably killed more fry trying to take the V out. Very difficult. Also, the box does not always stay stuck to the side of the tank, maybe in a tank full of guppies, but not in a tank full of other larger and more active fish. I've found this box dangling halfway down the tank, being jostled about by the airline. Oh, and the lack of instructions for how to put it together is disappointing. For those wanting to try this, it comes together the right way in the box. Just make sure when you take it out of the box, that you remember exactly how it was put together. That was very confusing for me the first time because my excited 8 yr old unpacked it for me. :(

This product should get an award for clever and functional design. It is made to keep Mama fish from eating her fry by allowing the babies to drift down to a safe zone below their mother's compartment. Attach an air line from your aquarium air pump to the built in filter, and voila, there's a filtered water flow through the nursery. The filter unit easily snaps on and off and fits either side of the nursery to accommodate your aquarium setup. The nursery is manufactured from clear acrylic plastic, which is strong (but probably brittle), but is absolutely see-through clear. The nursery box hangs in a clear plastic frame which attaches to the aquarium glass by suction cups.

This makes taking the nursery box in and out of the aquarium easy by leaving the frame semi-permanently in the fish tank.

As noted in other reviews, the slits in the plastic floor to allow for water flow are just slightly too large. In my Gambusia (mosquito fish) tank, a few of the tiniest fry can escape through these slits. Not a problem in my situation, as the ones who can wiggle through the slits escape into a babies-only compartment in my aquarium.

I had actually bought this as a replacement for our old wall mount betta bowl. My Husband had made the mistake of using an abrasive cleaning pad on the old ones surface and scratched it heavily. So my recommendation is to only wipe it with a damp cloth if it needs cleaning.

But other than that it looks FABULOUS, a lot of people have admired it whenever they've seen it on our wall. It's mounts well on the wall (if mounted properly) and our little guy loves his little "high rise" home :D

I wouldn't recommend removing it from the wall to replace the water, use a siphoning pipe and bucket instead to remove most of the water and then replacing it with fresh water.

I've had this bowl for about 6 months now and my beta is doing great! I get a ton of compliments when people walk in the front door and find a fish bowl hanging on the wall in front of them! Everyone says "Hey, that's really cool!" It is fairly hard to clean and refill the bowl since there's no way to set it flat but other than that I would definitely recommend.

This type of bowl, or any type of bowl for that matter, is not the proper home for a fish. Like other reviewers stated, it is extremely hard to clean. A fish, no matter the breed, needs a filter, a bubbler for aeration, light and depending on where it is in the home and where you live, heat.

Fish are good starter pets for teaching kids responsibility, but they are living creatures, not decorative pieces. Would you buy a dog just to keep it muzzled and in a crate its whole life? Give them room to thrive, buy the proper equipment or don't buy at all.

Reason for purchase:

I have had my beta fish in regular bowl for awhile now. My twin boys (almost 2 yrs) would slap the stand the bowl would sit on and i am sure that is not healthy for the fish. More terrified that the glass bowl would fall onto one of the boys i either had to find a tall place to keep the beta (which makes no since because betas are there to be shown off) or another option for a tank. I came across this wall tank by accident. It seemed like a good idea to keep the fish away from my kids (or in other cases big animals).

Style:

The picture shown is exactly how the BOWL looks (does not include rocks, fish and decor). Except i filled my bowl more so the fish had more space.

Size:

in my opinion if you were to take a soccer ball then cut it in half it would closely resemble the size of the bowl.

i would not put this product in a spot with a lot of traffic (hallway, entry way etc) because of the fear of someone running into it.

Not included:

as stated before you will only get the fish bowl. The rocks, decor, fish and Screw are purchased separately.

Installing:

i would not suggest putting the screw into drywall as it is only held by 1 screw (if interested you could buy double sided tape to help support but so far 1 screw has held the bowl just fine), instead find a stud and drill into it as it will support the weight of rocks and water easier.

I read comments that say they would have to unscrew the bowl from the wall every time they want to clean it. That is only true if you don't use your brain and find a long screw with a smaller head so you can just lift up the bowl and it would come off. (same concept as a picture on the wall)

where the screw hole is on the bowl there is a small slot so your screw falls into place more securely.

from family i have gotten great ideas to print out a background to tape to the back of the bowl for more color.

Tetra 19117 Water Wonders Fresh Water Plant Cabomba, 9-Inch

This plant is as advertised. looks just like the picture. Dark green, base is a v shaped clear plastic about three inches long. Good product.

The item is not as green as shown and is held down by cheap thin and narrow plastic that can not hold enough gravel or sand to weigh it down. I wish I would have passed on this stuff and purchased something that looked a bit more realistic. this just looks like cheap faux plants floating in my tank (floating because I am tired of putting my arm in 20 in of fish water to re-bury them!)

I should state before hand that I don't own this particular aquarium and so I can't testify to the quality of this item, and that I'm writing from experience and research.

Contrary to popular belief, Bettas don't live in puddles in the wild; They live in vast rice paddies which are thousands of gallons of naturally filtrated and aerated water. They only live in small puddles for about 2 or 3 months out of the year.

What's more, fancy bettas are not very similar to their wild buddies; they prefer larger aquariums with more stimulation, like plants and hiding places (maybe even compatible buddies?).

When I was 12 I bought two bettas and put them into separate small novelty tanks because I was told that was all they wanted or needed. Then at 13, I bought 1 more and put it into an old 3 gallon tank with filtration and aeration.

I saw the difference immediately; He was happier, healthier, moved more, more responsive, more alert, reacted when i came near the tank to clean or feed or watch him...Just absolutely happy. When I saw the difference I bought 2 and 3 gallon tanks and put the other two into them and they perked up as well! Whats more, the boy I initially put into the 3 gallon tank lived a whole year longer than the others!

This aquarium says 1 gallon at the top, and suggests putting two Bettas into it (With the divider).

Putting two bettas close together will stress them out. What's more, any illness one has can potentially be passed on to the other. Finally, if you put in two bettas, you might not be able to put in plants, which Bettas like to rest and sleep on (or at least mine and a few of my buddies' did).

I would buy this tank as a Isolation, Quarantine, or hospital tank though; it's small enough to easily treat a separated fish, you can measure out smaller amounts of medicine (I've done Epsom salt treatments on my guppies before in these sort of tanks, and it's easier in a 1 gallon than a 10 gallon and usually uses less medicine if its measured by the gallon). What's more, I think it would be OK to put a single, aggressive male guppy in if he can't be put back into the community tank (personal experience also), or to house some fry (but not many) in. Best of all, this tank is VERY affordable.

I might even buy this as a "between tanks" tank, when I'm prepping another tank for the fish.

But as a permanent house for a Betta? Never. 3 gallons or larger.

I find this product very well designed. I am very pleased with the detail and the clarity of the tank. I was hoping nevertheless that I would be able to place the top over a filter that I have placed on the top of the tank. However, this was not a part of the original design so I am not complaining.

with a strong chewer, this toy lasted several weeks, which is a long time for a toy that isn't close to indestructible. It's a pretty solid choice, though eventually it will lose the battle to strong chewer, I'd still say it's good for most doges. And the dogs liked it, often when things are too hard, they don't want to play with them, but they dug this one.

Our Lab carries this toy around with her and even carries it to bed with her. So far she hasn't decided to tear it apart as she has other similar toys.

Our rough collie absolutely loves this toy for games of fetch and tug of war. I would give a higher rating but the wings seem to tear off too easily. I have three thermometers in my big tank. This one is almost 4 to 5 degrees higher (over 10 degrees higher in Fahrenheit) than the others even when placed side by side. I also bought the SODIAL(TM) Digital LCD Fish Aquarium Marine Vivarium Thermometer in the same package, as I wasn't sure which I would like better for looks. That thermometric was in line with my traditional thermometers. Get that one.

As an added plus, that one has a Fahrenheit option. This one is Celsius only. That in itself wasn't a problem, just thought I'd point it out.

Cat Mate Elite Selective Chip and Disc Cat Flap

This is the first review I have every written on any product. Arrived in good condition. Appeared to be well made. Both myself and my girlfriend have now spent over an hour each just trying to get this to work. We have each read the instructions many times and used 2 different cats (one has a microchip only 6 months old) with no luck. The door appears to be reading the chip however it simply does not work. We either can't get it to lock when it's supposed to or we can't get it to unlcok when the chip is being read. I have no idea if I simply have one defective unit or if this is really that poorly made, regardless I will be returning.

1/24 Update: -Prior to sending unit back I decided to call the company. The rep was very knowledgeadble and walked me through setting up the door in 5 minutes. However her instructions were completely different than the instructions given with the door! And no this is not a lack of ability on my part, between my GF and I we hold 2 doctorates. Anyway door now seems to work as advertised althoug I haven't installed it yet. Additionally I would like to see a better description of the functions in the instructions. For example no where does it mention ANY animals can go out of the door but only chipped ones can enter. Also you can not set the door to respond differently to indeividual chips, whatever you set it as applies to every chip you have programmed. None of these bothered me but it should be advertised as such, or at least explained in the instructions. For those reasons 3 out of 5.

This is the only chip and disc door I have found on the market, and the concept is great. It only comes in one size, which is tough for the tubby cat. The door requires pressure before it will read the ID tags, forcing the cat to press and be locked out once and then try again before they can get let in. If an unknown cat attempts entry, the door locks in both directions, not allowing the inside cat out until it senses the ID tag. The door has a difficult time reading the tag from the inside approach. We've had occasional random misreads and lock outs as well

We are still in training mode so I haven't used the chip reader yet but so far this seems to be a solid product that is well constructed. I have an older cat that has never used a cat flap so it is taking some time to get her past her fear and distrust of the door. I am using it in the unlocked training mode and I put a couple of cat treats on the outside to provide some incentive for her to push through. She seems fine coming in (fear based I think) but is a bit reluctant to go out. It's been five days now and she is going out on her own now (without me directing her). the door itself has worked as advertised.

Good-old fish tank filter floss is getting difficult to find! This is the good-old polyester filter media that works on top of a standard activated carbon bed. This 14 oz bag is about the size of a pillow, larger than the old dime-store portions, but that's OK for my needs.

I bought this stuff to use inside my Ehiem 2215 canister filter for my heavily planted aquarium, and it's fantastic. You're much better off buying this stuff in bulk than paying extraordinary prices for pre-cut "filter pads". The filter pads are overpriced and less effective! I stuff a good 2-3" thick matt of this stuff at the top of my filter and put a 100ml pack of Purigen inside of it and my water sparkles!

Love being able to purchase filter floss in the larger 14 oz. size. It doesn't come in a package this larger at the store. We use a lot of it for our salt water tank and a large bag goes pretty quick.
