This has a good selection of plants for a medium to large aquarium. They are well made and colorful. The plant platform is wide and is easy to anchor into your gravel base. I saw the same package of plants at the local pet store and it cost a lot more. This is a good buy.

This is not an expensive heater and after a failed attempt at a different brand heater I was a little worried. No worry for me (and least not yet). I put the heater in the tank, waited 30 minutes and turned it on. In a few hours after I turned it on the tank was up to temperature and has stayed there. The only thing I didn't like was the temperature was a degree or two off of what the heater said but not a big deal. I've had more expensive ones do the same thing. You have a minimum water line or it can go completely under the water. I have it set so I can change the temperature without sticking my hand in the water. I only just got this heater so if I develop any problems with it I will update my review but for now all is good.

Update Over a month later and all is still good. The water is always at the same exact temperature with very, very little variance. Even after water changes the temp is back quickly. I will be ordering another one or two for other tanks.

I use this heater to regulate the temperature of a water bath for my carboys full of wine. The thermometer on the outside of the carboys tell me this heater did its job perfectly.

The heater was submerged vertically. It's my habit to check my aquarium's water temperature frequently. After 4 weeks, I noticed the water temperature was far below the heater's set temp. Upon closer inspection, I found fragments of the heater's plastic casing at the bottom of the aquarium. The casing had somehow fractured. Being that I live alone and none of my fish are capable of snapping plastic, I'd say something went wrong with the heater, unless a home intruder entered my home with the specific intent of shattering my heater.

Use it in a 20 gallon water turtle tank. Had a 50 watt that was supposed to be enough but at 69° room temp could not keep up. This one has no problem with 85° and seems to be off more than on.

While aquarists debate and discuss which brand is the best, labs and universities continue to select Instant Ocean for their studies. Instant Ocean is one of the largest makers of marine salt in the world. They know what they are doing. On the other end of the spectrum you have true hand-made marine salt. I have made marine salt in a lab. I used 100% super purity chemicals and salts. It was a lengthy process and very expensive. We used the salts for years and also compared the tanks to Instant Ocean salts. There was no difference in the tanks. The lab no longer makes marine salt. It was easier to buy Instant Ocean.

I needed a little more bubble for my 50 gal fish tank. I ordered this pump from Amazon and at first it was amazing! Quiet enough and tons of bubbles. I use the bubbles just to circulate and break the surface because the tank is a tall deep cube with a canister filter.

After a few weeks the pump began to make horrible noise. I found that the magnets in the pump part were rubbing. I took it apart and used a rasp and my dremel tool to file down the part which was making the noise. I then added a dab of silicone sewing oil to it and reassembled it. Now it has been running quietly and efficiently for several months. I have no complaints and it was a good price, especially with free 2 day shipping.

This filter is perfect for my fish bowl, although you need a small air pump that is not supplied. I have my filter in a 3 1/2 gallon flower vase that I made into a giant fish bowl and this filter works great. I tried the small cartridge filters from the pet stores and they were very insufficient compared to this under gravel filter. Just rinse the charcoal filter out real good before you put it in your tank and do regular water changes and you will have very happy fish with a cheap but effective filter

I got this filter for a small tank that I keep guppies in. The fish seem to like it because it keeps the water very still for them, unlike the old filter I was using that created a pretty strong current.

I ordered this product to go in a betta bowl. When I tried to assemble the product, the tube would NOT fit into the base. I'm going to have to figure out if it's worth replacing the tube or trying to widdle it down. CRAPPY!

The thing is noisy with all the bubbles coming out of it, and they only come out of 1 hole in the top. The tube was too tall, and the filter was so much taller than the top of my 2.5 gallon square fish tank that I had to cut the tube in half with a hammer and wire cutters. It doesn't cover the whole bottom of the tank so I don't know how it will clean the whole tank. The plant looks kinda sharp. I've had it in my tank for 30 minutes now and the water is cloudy. I'm giving it 2 stars in hopes that it will do some filtration.

This tank is far too small and a bad shape to be a healthy place for a betta to live. If you want to get a fish, get one as a pet and treat it as such, with the same care and consideration you'd give to any pet. It's not a decorative item, it's a living thing. This a great size aquarium, it came in bigger then expected. The stand that the aquarium is placed on is not sturdy. It is made very cheap. My aquarium almost fell off of it. I will prob. just sell this one, and get a nicer aquarium for my betta. It is truly not worth the money.

This is the most unbelievable product I have seen to date for Betta Fish. Next thing people will have them inside a matchbox. This product is both inhumane, inadequate and cruel. Betta fish are tropical fish that require a heated tank, space to swim..... yup, imagine that, a very gentle filter, fresh plants and a minimum of 3 gallons. I have mine in 5 gallon and 10 gallon tanks.

I am so disappointed at Amazon for selling this product. It just perpetuates the myth that Betta fish are disposable and that they are essentially toys.

Elite Submersible Preset Heater, 50 Watt

I have three Elite heaters a 25 watt in my 2.5 gallon betta tank, and a 50 watt in both my 5and 10-gallon tanks. All three heaters have worked perfectly. It takes a little while to get them adjusted just right, but once you've got them set they keep the temperature perfectly steady. I live in Iowa, and nighttime temperatures here are below freezing right now, with one room not very well heated. The 50W Elite in my 10-gallon tank handles the fluctuations with no problem, and my bettas are healthy and happy. I definitely recommend this one!

We have been using this for at least 2.5 months, and no problems yest. Much cheaper than local pet store heaters, and works well. It also seems to be constructed well. We use our 50 watt one in a 10 gallon tank, and we normally keep the temperature at 79 degrees. I recommend a separate thermometer just to make sure it is functioning properly. If has a small orange light that indicates if it is heating. Only problem, and maybe its just the way we have it installed in our fish tank, but the suction cups do not like to secure it to the glass very well. Overall its worth your money.

The Hagen Elite heater was purchased partially based on a fair review from Amazon(4 stars with 9 reviews). I followed the instructions and set the heater at 79F. The final temperature was +88F and was recorded with two different thermometers. That is not acceptable and the product was returned. I will give the Hydor Theo a try. Sorry Hagen.

Coralife Pure-Flo II Per Day TFC Membrane

This is advertised as an Aqueon Coralife 05704, but the box contained a TFC membrane branded as CSM with the part number RE1812-60. It was in a bag with a statement that CSM is manufactured by Woongjim Chemical. The item shipped doesn't even match the photo on Amazon. This one has a wide strip of white tape wrapped just below the top gasket, and the bottom o-rings are a different color. Amazon's price for the Aqueon Coralife brand is about the same as everyone else's. But everywhere I checked, the CSM RE1812-60 sells for half of Amazon's price, leading me to believe that the CSM is a cheap substitute.

The box is labeled with a UPC code that matches the Coralife-branded filter on several other websites, so maybe this was a problem with the supplier, or maybe somebody bought the real thing and returned it with a cheaper brand inside thinking Amazon wouldn't catch it. I'm exchanging it and a new one is being shipped. When it's received I will update this review when I find out if the correct brand is shipped this time.

I make a lot of water for my salt water tank, this product insures that I get all chemicals out of the water. I installed it about 1 year ago in my reverse osmosis system. Still working, and water tank is looking good.

As opposed to some other reviewers, we have never had an issue with this product. Fish are very sensitive to pH change and, most likely, people that have had issues have used the product incorrectly. First, take the pH of your pond or tank (especially pond) at least 3 times during the day, morning, noon and night. The pH can change as much as 0.03, so always start from your highest pH. Second, do not alter the pH by more than 0.01 per day, waiting 2 or 3 days in between additions is even better. Third, don't look for an "ideal" pH, fish can survive in a wide range and sometimes your tank or pond is just a bit high. It's better for the fish to live in a pond which has a high pH than one that has a constantly changing pH. Remember kH as well (alkalinity) plays a factor, so be careful about balancing. That said, if your pH is high and your ammonia is high, use of this product can be very helpful. Ammonia is far worse at high pH, at pH of 9.0 and high ammonia can be deadly and if you face a situation such as that combination, this product, used correctly, can be very helpful.

It does work... I have tap water in a 75 gallon freshwater fish tank with an 8.4 PH level (extremely HIGH)... I used 150 ML (over 5 ounces) of this product and the Ph level is now 7.2. Now I can use my tap water for my fish.

i don't know if i got a defective one, but all the colors of each degree are light up brightly or sometimes they're all dim. so its hard for me to determine the temp. i had another one before from the 99c store and that one worked better than this

This is really not a bad thermometer for your tank, and it will read the temperature rather quickly and shows very little contamination with temperature from the air outside the tank. The adhesive is strong and will stick to the tank; you only need light pressure to affix it to the glass. If you use a tool like a Mag Float-130A Magnetic Cleaner for Acrylic Medium up to 125 Gallon you won't need to worry about rubbing it off of your glass while cleaning if it is bumped.

I have two of these on both ends (each side) of my 90 gallon aquarium near the live sand bed. This helps me get a good read on the temperature at the lowest level of the tank and see if there is any temperature difference between the two ends. It is very unobtrusive and easy to read in good lighting. I have noticed that on one side of the tank I have a harder time gauging the temperature because it's mostly in shadow. The colors aren't terribly bright for the temperatures and as such it can be a bit finicky.

I ran a few tests with these against the floating variety (see review here: Floating Thermometer Economy) and found these superior at determining temperature both for their speed and accuracy. To sum up I raised the water temperature in an empty quarantine tank and these register much faster. Obviously your secondary worry with an outside of the tank temperature strip is going to be whether or not the room temperature affects the readings. If it does, this is negligible, I cranked my heat up to bring the house to 85 F and the strip never showed a difference from the steady 75 F that I keep it at.

For a cheap solution or secondary system to check your temperature I would suggest these, they aren't the best, they aren't the worst, but they are reliable.

I have this thermometer on my old, smaller tank for my betta, and I love it. Unfortunately, it cannot be removed and placed on another aquarium and still work. Because of this, I went out and bought a SmartTemp Thermometer, at a pet store closer to my house than PETCO, when I got a new larger aquarium. I miss my PETCO thermometer! While it can sometimes be difficult to read (sometimes a lighting problem, other times you have to rub it and let it readjust to show the temperature), I have still found it to be very reliable, especially for the price! I will be returning my Fusion Smart Temp Thermometer and replacing it with either another one of these, or trying a ESU Coralife Digital Thermometer item #232. I would definitely recommend this thermometer, though.

Fluval FX5 Fine Filter Polishing Pad - 3-Pack

I've found the white polishing pad to be more commonly available locally, but have read various reports of those clogging up very quickly, a few days.

I have my FX5 in a 120G tank w/ 2 RES turtles, and about 30 small fish. It's doing the job VERY well, and I find that one of these blue pads above the BioMax is keeping the water clean, and catching plenty of fine material w/o clogging up TOO quickly. I'm replacing it about monthly, but given the stocking level of my tank, and the fact that there's TURTLES, I'm MORE than pleased with these!

These work wonderfully in the Fluval FX5 a long time ehiem fan for over 35 years I've been using these filters for larger tanks (up to 300 gal.) in pairs and they're incredibly effective especially for messy fish. Of course, nothing "polishes" the water like a Vortex Diatom Filter which can filter out debris and pathogens down to one micron in size but these are supplementary filters meant only to be used once in a while.

These pads although not as effective will remove particles down to about 10 microns. I run four FX5's and replace these about every 60 days. Like the white foam which is for coarser debris it's imperative to replace them or your GPH will suffer and the re direction of water flow not being able to pass through can result in ahigher degree of bypass an inherant problem with the FX5's in general.

These do keep your water on the pristine side and the value on Amazon is excellent.

I had gravel as many fish owners started with. But, I went sand and I will never go back. Especially with THIS sand! It's so beautiful and fine, my fish love it and even though it is a very 'dusty' sand if you rinse it off first, it's perfect. It's so easy to clean. My loaches, guppies, and betas adore it. Not to mention Xmas moss and java moss LOOOOOVE it. Hornwort works well in it, too.

However, with every pro there is a con.

It's sand. Twenty pounds of sand that you are playing 17 dollars for when you can buy a very high quality sand like this in the pool section of your local store. I think it's way too high priced!

We wanted a bright white sand for our new aquarium and decided to go with this one. I'm so glad we did! It's very fine, and a beautiful white color. Since it is so fine, I was worried that it might stir up easily, but it's been perfect in our aquarium. We have a 15 gallon tank, about one foot square, so the 20 lbs gave us 2-3 inches of sand on the bottom. I think if you've got a more traditional shaped tank you'll need more than one bag.

One thing to keep in mind is that the sand won't be as white once it's wet. I was dissapointed when I rinsed it and it turned to a light cream color. It's not a flaw in the sand, I just didn't think about how sand changes color when wet, so I wanted to toss it in for people to keep in mind. With the light on in the tank, this sand still looks white, much whiter than any sand that we could have bought at a local store.

It's a little pricey, but we're going to look at the tank every day. The extra cost was worth it to love how the aquarium looks!

with a strong chewer, this toy lasted several weeks, which is a long time for a toy that isn't close to indestructible. It's a pretty solid choice, though eventually it will lose the battle to strong chewer, I'd still say it's good for most doges. And the dogs liked it, often when things are too hard, they don't want to play with them, but they dug this one.

Our rough collie absolutely loves this toy for games of fetch and tug of war. I would give a higher rating but the wings seem to tear off too easily.
