Hagen Marina Ecoscaper Hydrocotyle Silk Plant Plant, 8-Inch

Of all the different plants I've used in the past few years, my Bettas much prefer this particular plant because of the wide, flat leaves. They can lounge on a leaf at any level of the plant close to the bottom or right near the top. Since my initial purchase, I have always replaced it with another of the same when I felt it needed replacing.

The only thing I'd recommend is snipping off the little bits of excess plastic that are sometimes located under the leaves or on the stems. They can be sharp on the Betta's delicate fins, but come off easily enough. Very nice plant to look at, too. I'll see if I still have a photo of my tanks somewhere.

I bought this plant for a new freshwater 20 gallon aquarium I set up at work. My African Dwarf frogs love it, and at least one is often hiding underneath the lower leaves. It is shorter than 8 inches (maybe if you stretched it out it would be that long). Other than that it looks great and I'm happy with it.

The plant looks very much as pictured, very realistic. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because though the tops of the leaves are gorgeous the underside of all the leaves aren't painted and are pretty cheezy looking and where my tank is at you'll be able to see that. But! I still love it, looks great otherwise.

I added this plant to my aquarium for my two African dwarf frogs and they love it. They like to hide in the leaves and I often see them resting on a leaf and napping. It creates a nice environment for the frogs to play in and looks so natural.

These are some really nice silk plants. They are as described and the weighted base makes them easy to place in the aquarium. It just doesn't get any better than this in artificial aquarium plants. I'm a happy camper.

I bought this thing to break up the water when I fill my aquarium. I have a 530 gallon per hour pump that puts out a lot of water and this guy breaks it up perfectly. No need to lift a 5gal pail of water ( weighing 42lbs. ) and trying to use your hand to do the job of breaking the water so your stones and fish don't get caught in a tsunami.

The metal mesh warped while installing and the opening is too small for my eheim 250/2213 intake tube. I'll make it work. If it doesn't rust, I'm happy. Better ones go for upwards of $10 plus shipping.

Zanusa Pet Products Resin Ornament - Hollow Log

This looks just like a hollowed out piece of wood my Betta loves swimming up inside and just hanging in the middle of it he apparently feels secure inside it it fits in my 5 gallon tank just fine

Smaller than I thought it would be. I was hoping for something on the 8-10 inch range or larger. The log is about 5-6 inches max. Its in my tank right now so I don't want to pull it out. I'll update with the size next time I do a cleaning. It is nice and fits in with my other mangrove root tree stump type things in the tank. My Cichlids like it too.

Glo T5 High Output Lighting System, Double

A nice sturdy light for the money.

It does have a few drawbacks as already reviewed, namely the fact the power has to run through a timer (which is included) as there is no off/on switch for either tube.

The ballast itself is quite sturdy, more than I thought it would be for the price when compared to more high-end brands.

The brackets that attach to the aquarium to hold up the light are not as sturdy as I would like for such a heavy piece balanced over water.

Also, the product description doesn't fully spellout the right size bulbs you have to buy, as they are NOT included. I bought the 36" system, but it takes 34" bulbs.

A very good value for the money. I have mine over a 45 gallon tall, freshwater, planted aquarium and the light penetrates to the bottom quite evenly.

I would buy another as I feel the price is very good for the heavy-duty construction of the actual fixture, as long as you know the above mentioned quirks.

I might also note there is no lens cover included if this matters to you.

Had this lighting setup for about 2 years, which is not bad, but then it just unexpectedly stopped working. This is because there is NO water blocking shield on the light at all, which over time caused water to build up in the unit and caused it to die. This could easily be fixed by a simple shield, unfortunately the light doesn't come with one. I was disappointed to see it go and will be switching to an Aqueon LED setup.

Lifegard FB300 Fluidized Bed Filter - Up to 300 gal.

This filter worked well when it worked. You need a separate power head to run the Lifeguard. I had great difficulty getting the Lifeguard going again everytime I cleaned the power head and hooked it back up. I ended up getting rid of it too much hassle. They need to provide a dedicated, matched powerhead and connections the list in the instruction manual of compatible units is not accurate!

This would offer an immense amount of biological filtration for the dollar except for two stupid design flaws. First, anytime the power goes off and the filter loses flow, the sand fills up the input tube. This requires removing the sand through the hole in the top and replacing it the same way, which is an extraordinarily tedious task. Second, the seal on the bottom is very poor quality. I've had two develop leaks, one right out of the box. Lifeguard probably saved a dime in manufacturing costs and the result was a very bad product. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

In the last two weeks I've had 2 of these leak from the seam on the bottom of the filter. It does a GREAT job of biological filtration but with any significant pressure load it leaks. I was running it on the return side of an Ocean Clear canister powered by an 800gph little giant pump. It cant take that basic pressure so sadly I cant use it. It might be better suited to running off a lower flow powerhead but since my tank is drilled in the bottom I have no use for this since I don't want to run something up top that would obstruct the view of the tank. Too bad it's not more sturdy it would have made a great addition to my filtration.

Aquarium Products Barley Straw Extract 16-Ounce Pond Cleaner

This product did not work for me. Although this barley straw extract is marketed as an algae control product, to the company's credit nowhere on the label do the words "controls algae" appear. After two months of usage according to directions, this liquid had no effect on the algae in my pond.

The label does say that the product is "organically formulated to promote cleaner clearer water."

It didn't do that either.

Even though my pond people highly recommend this product, my string algae seems to thrive whether or not you us it. Found a much better new product at pond depot called Rock and Waterfall cleaner that works much better.

with a strong chewer, this toy lasted several weeks, which is a long time for a toy that isn't close to indestructible. It's a pretty solid choice, though eventually it will lose the battle to strong chewer, I'd still say it's good for most doges. And the dogs liked it, often when things are too hard, they don't want to play with them, but they dug this one.

Our Lab carries this toy around with her and even carries it to bed with her. So far she hasn't decided to tear it apart as she has other similar toys.

Our rough collie absolutely loves this toy for games of fetch and tug of war. I would give a higher rating but the wings seem to tear off too easily. Once this happens, I usually just remove the stuffing and squeaker and keep using till it finally comes apart. We are on our second duck and will probably be getting a new one soon!

I also use a white plastic bucket for this but the convenience of this container surpases the low tech bucket. It hangs nicely on the side of the tank so a shorter drip line is needed when drip acclimating new additions. It is also a nice size for coral dips saving me from using the larger bucket and more dip product due to the size of a bucket vs this smaller container. Made the whole process more convenient.

I have been keeping a planted aquarium for many years and Flourite is the best substrate for plants that I have ever used. True, it is a pain that you need to rinse it, however, if you use a very fine colander with a hose or in the bathtub like I did it is very easy. You will want to let the dust settle after you put it in your aquarium before turning your filter on. (depending on how well you rinsed the substrate.)

Other reviewers are not kidding, you will need to take this stuff outside and spend a long time with a hose and bucket to rinse out the silt to an acceptable level. It looks nice in the aquarium though.

I put this substrate in my turtle tank after reading a glowing endorsement on a web site dedicated to turtles. I knew upfront that it needed to be rinsed well, more so than an average back of rocks. What I didn't expect was if the turtle or fish makes the slightest fuss with the flourite a cloud of dust is dispersed throughout the tank. The benefits of this product are the pleasant appearance and use as a planting medium. The drawbacks are the constant production of dust and the increased filter maintenance. Unless you're wanting to plant your aquarium I would recommend sticking to river rocks or other suitable substrate. If you choose to use this product I definitely recommend switching from the sponge filter to floss. I am using a 100% polyester crafter's stuffing and it is excellent at catching all the dust.

Love this ornament! For those of you who had problems with the leaves being bent and out of shape when you unboxed this item, read on. The leaves were bent and crushed on mine too; all I did was get my hair dryer, set it on high, and aim the hot air on the back of the leaves first and then on the front. I even melted the glue slightly and rearranged the leaves to my liking. Let it cool and you have a beautiful aquarium ornament!

I was looking for a main piece for a five gallon hex tank and this fits the bill wonderfully. I liked it so much that I ordered a second one for another tank. These are great to have in my aquarium tool box. They fit well in my tupperware box, and are nice and thin and light. They come very sharp, so trimming plants is no problem. I've never wiped the water off of them after using, and so far, not even a tiny speck of rust. Great item for such a great price!!! The shipping however, was not the fastest. It was not a problem for me as I was just setting up my planted tank, so I didn't need to do any trimming for some time. Great product though!!!

This hydrometer is more accurate than it's smaller counterparts.

Con's:

The extra size and weight make it a little more likely to break, I have purchased and broken this hydrometer before. These break easily in the center when picked up from one end instead of the middle. The tip also can shatter if it is dropped into the water and hits the bottom or a hard surface.

My impression after owning several glass hydrometers of various sizes:

For aquarium use just buy the smaller hydrometers such as: Living Sea Hydrometer, Celsius & Fahrenheit, Small, 8 Inches, they work just as well when precise accuracy isn't necessary and they tend to last longer.

Even though this shows up under the search terms 'brewing hydrometer' it is a SALINE hydrometer. It will NOT measure specific gravity of wort for home brewing.
