Acurel LLC Premium Activated Filter Carbon Aquarium and Pond Filter Accessory, 90-Ounce

Acurel LLC Premium Activated Filter Carbon Aquarium and Pond Filter Accessory, 90-OunceI have used 3 different kinds of carbon recently as I am getting back into my aquarium hobby and both of the other brands had lots of small grit with the carbon that gets through the bags and the filter containers that I use. This carbon works much better for me because the chunks are a little larger and there is not as much fine grit that can get loose.

I will be buying this carbon exclusively in the future.

I started using activated carbon for filtering out bad odors in my home. I had a different brand but it was much more expensive for a lot less. I was pleased that this one contains the same quality but is much more economical with the price.

So much carbon for so little money! Very little washing needed if at all. Can't believe it shipped free too!

This carbon comes pre-washed and appears cleaner than others I have tried. There was very little carbon dust on the inside of the container. Still, I think that you should always rinse your carbon before using it. Other than that...Its just a lot of activated carbon for a good price.

Loving Pets Dolce Dish Dog Bowl, Small, 1 Pint, Pesto

Loving Pets Dolce Dish Dog Bowl, Small, 1 Pint, PestoBought two of these for my two puppies. The stainless steel bowls are removable from the plastic base for easy washing. The bowls are pretty study. The colors are pretty true to the photo. The brown paw and bone prints are a lighter shade of brown than shown in the photo, but still look very nice.

I bought these to replace my previous set which had a similar style. I wanted something which held the same size stainless steel bowl (the bowl size is about 5" at the top with the lip and about 3.75" at the bottom). I assumed these were either metal like my previous set (which rusted) or ceramic (could break). I was very happy when I received them and they're plastic! But if any guests come to the house, they LOOK ceramic. They also have a rubber ring at the base to prevent slippage. I really like the color, too.

I love the design of this bowl, but unfortunately it was too big for my 3lb morkie. I wish it would come in smaller sizes.

This is a good dog bowl. If you wash the outside in the dishwasher too many times, the paw prints do rub off. Overall it does the job.

Laguna PowerFlo External Biological Pond Filter, 1000-Gallon, 20-Inch

Laguna PowerFlo External Biological Pond Filter, 1000-Gallon, 20-InchWe bought this as a second biological filter for our koi pond. The media inside our waterfall is our original (and primary) bio filter. However, the small koi that we stocked the pond with years ago have now grown to about 2 feet long. They eat a ton and "pollute" the water like crazy so we decided to add a bit more mechanical and biological filtration. We bought a second pump (Laguna MaxFlo 3000GPH) along with this Laguna bio filter. This new pump is in bottom of deepest part of pond (3.5') and circulates water through separate above-ground UV sterilizer and then to this Laguna bio filter which then empties back into pond. As another viewer noted, it was a hassle to find hosing that would fit the output connections of this filter. Seems to be an odd or irregular size. Regular pond hosing didn't fit so had to spend a lot of time and MUCH more $$$ than should be necessary to get hose that would fit and survive the elements.

As far as the actual performance of this bio filter...I have to say I'm unimpressed. The cost of it is low compared to others that I considered which is why I gave it a 2 instead of a 1.

What I like?

The price

Easy enough to clean. Bottom plug removes in order to drain. Lift-out compartments can be quickly hosed off.

Some other bio filters are set up for easy flushing and cleaning, but cost considerably more.

What I don't like?

It's sort of flimsy (we laid some flat concrete pads behind the landscaping in order to level filter box and

give it some stability)

I don't like the filtering media provided (it keeps disappearing through the output hoses). Will replace

with better option.

Lid doesn't fit snugly enough.

If you aren't careful in making sure that the two output flows are removing water from the filter at a rate

equal to (or greater than) water coming in, the excess water will just spill out from under lid...and drain your pond.

The already mentioned problem with finding output hosing to fit. I ended up having to spend $40 for 4.5' of output

hosing.

I feel that the engineering of the filter input/output and compartments is not optimal. If I don't

clean it out at least once a week, too much dead algae and other gunk settles in the bottom. I generally only

clean out our other biological filter (BioFalls) no more than 2-3 times a year. In order to keep the good

bacteria operating at peak, the media needs water/oxygen circulating over it constantly. If water circulates

too fast, the bacteria doesn't have enough time to do its stuff. But in the case of this bio filter, it

appears to me that there is too much lower area in the box where the water doesn't circulate or move the

water. As a result, the dead algae (from the UV sterilizer) and other small debris just settles in bottom

and slowly decays.

We have used this model of pond filter for several years and had to replace it recently due to minor part breakage. The price is reasonable and the function is fine. I would like a stronger bottom plug design and water supply connector.

I am very pleased with this product. My 1,000 gallon pond was a murky green before i installed this filter. in less than two days it is crystal clear. I hooked it up to a laguna clear flo 900 gph pond pump. I think that was important as this particular pump was capable of handling larger particles. The only reason I did not give it five stars is that the water outflow nozzle is larger than a 1.25 inch and smaller than a 1.5 inch. I had to buy and fit a specialty hose so I could run an outflow line and not use the unit as a waterfall. I have a separate pump and hose for the waterfall. Also, it comes with the filter pad and the lava rock, but it would not have taken much to also include the plastic biological media which goes in the third stage. I had to buy that separately also. overall, the filter works very well, I would definitely recommend.

Read Best Reviews of Laguna PowerFlo External Biological Pond Filter, 1000-Gallon, 20-Inch Here

I have had this for a few months now. I must say, it does work with a little help with beneficial bacteria. I have this running on the Laguna 600 pump, it's feeding into the external filter. The bacteria can grow on its own, or you can buy products to start the biological process. I would not use this with anything larger than 1000 gallons. It is a bit smaller, with a little added bio-media added such as ceramic rings, a few lava rocks, plastic scrub pads, and a few small air conditioner filter pads (not included) this things works great to grow bacteria. Only mods I would suggest, adding a air pump with air stones in the media, so the bacteria will grow. I have done this by drilling a hole and adding a air pump to media. Also the parts made are a little cheaply made but do the job.

Resun Automatic Fish Feeder

Resun Automatic Fish Feederwe have a 20 gallon tank. my old 12 hour feeder we used for vacation for about 6 years stopped working properly. looked at a lot of feeders-really happy with this feeder. we use hard and flake; just break them up really well. go slow with the programit is not that hard as some have written, just follow instructions! i first did a test outside the tank to get the set-up just right[used a large cup] have it set for two feedings;8am and 8pmat three quarter. the food does not get damp at all. now we use it all the time-no more wondering if i feed them or notand always the right amount. This feeder has not let me down, and gives me piece of mind. so i must give thumbs up to a great product! thanks amazon for another good product, delivered on time!

Two Thumbs Up!!

My first impression of this was good until I had to take it apart, then the plastic container was so hard to undo it almost broke. It later broke after 3 food changes but I also noticed that the food was starting to mold and got maggots into the food.... I have other fish food feeders and this one is by far the WORST!

Likes:

-It works

-It is a newer version than the ones I've seen on youtube, everything comes apart/together very easily

-The attachment for the tank is sturdy and well made

-The actual feeder comes off the mount so that you just have to slide it on to the mount (which is sturdy) when you go on vacation

The food adjustment works well, I'm using flakes

-Set up and buttons are easy to understand

-holds a lot of food

-Price

Dislikes

-It is bulky but that shouldnt matter

-the clock does not have am/pm I'm pretty sure

-wish it could be plugged into wall (not sure how long batteries last)

***only real dislike was that the slider for amount of food (max-min) seems to be loose if it is not clicked into max or min setting (mine is in the middle). BUT the rotation of the wheel is so light and smooth I don't think it would ever slip to one extreme or the other.

Overall I think this is a way better deal than the one that is like $30+, but i'm broke so who knows

Want Resun Automatic Fish Feeder Discount?

I bought this for small turtle pellets, it occasionally has a few pellets get stuck, but after a few feedings it clears itself up. I like how it has 4 feeding times with multiple rotation choices. This allows me to make sure that we don't have uneaten food floating around. The side clamp holds tight and was is a big plus, the last feeder we had fell in and died. I am buying a second to stretch how long I can go with out refilling.

Feeding Prong - 17 in.

Feeding Prong - 17 in.The tip of this feeder is a wedge-form grind.

To try and get a piece of silversides fish onto it ,or off once placed on it was difficult...to say the least.

I ended up sanding it to a point-like tip using common sandpaper.

It still didn't help.

A fellow reef-board member stated he had purchased the same item with the same results.

His solution, to glue a pin on the tip that the food could be easily pushed onto, & pulled from.

Once the fish (or anenome in my case) grabbed hold of it.

Need to try this "mod" myself.

able to feed my anemones much easier in my 220 gallon tank. much better than the chopsticks I was using.

Buy Feeding Prong - 17 in. Now

This is not what i expected but i guess for the price it is okay. My father was wanting something easy to feed his anenome with and i just dont see this being any easier than what he already has. Our problem is getting the food to fall off the stick into the anemone and I just dont see this helping with that problem.

Read Best Reviews of Feeding Prong - 17 in. Here

I received this product on time and it works wonderfully for putting pieces of shrimp on the end to individually feed my crabs and anenomes. The only thing that would make it better is if it was longer and maybe had a "clamp" that would hold the food on as sometimes it slides off before I can get it to the fish. I have a 75 gal tank so anything that I need to feed at the bottom gets half my arm wet.

Aqua Tank Betta - Penn plax beta bow front cubed tank

Aqua Tank Betta - Penn plax beta bow front cubed tankThe main problem with this product is it is poorly manufactured and in my opinion over priced.

The cube is a really nice size and your betta will have room to swim. They are compact but are big enough for your betta to be comfortable. The cube comes with a plant and gravel. I didn't like the plant but the gravel is coordinated with the color of the cube.

The lid is a great feature of this product. The shape is nice because you have plenty of viewing room.

If you buy this product make sure you have some silicone aquarium sealer .........more than likely you will need it. Very poorly manufactured.

This product is far too small for a living animal. Bettas are kept in small containers in pet stores because they cannot be kept with other bettas-that does not mean that's how they are meant to be kept as pets. Please research proper living conditions before purchasing something like this. If you want to see how bettas act in properly-sized tanks (HEATED tanks-they're tropical fish!), check YouTube. You might be surprised.

Lee's Pet Products ALE10516 Heavy Duty Specimen Container for Aquarium, SmallI also use a white plastic bucket for this but the convenience of this container surpases the low tech bucket. It hangs nicely on the side of the tank so a shorter drip line is needed when drip acclimating new additions. It is also a nice size for coral dips saving me from using the larger bucket and more dip product due to the size of a bucket vs this smaller container. Made the whole process more convenient.

Aquatop PF25-UV Hang-On Filter with UV Sterilization

Aquatop PF25-UV Hang-On Filter with UV SterilizationThis review is for; Aquatop PF25-UV Hang-On Filter with UV Sterilization

I only had this filter running in my 28-gallon tall hex tank for just over a month & have been very pleased with it so far. My acrylic tall, aquarium only has a 7" opening for back-hanging filters, so at 6.5" wide this filter was a prefect fit. Note that it is very important that the lip of your aquarium must be 3/4" OR LESS. Any lip thicker than 3/4" & this filter WILL NOT fit. Fortunately the lip of my tank is exactly 5/8". My tank is for Marine fish as I have damsels, cleaner shrimp, live corals & some other live invertebrates.

The filter also comes with a small bag of ceramic rings (usefull for biological purposes) in addition to the standard disposable cartridge with activated carbon. The filter does have a surface skimmmer that does skim the surface of the water, but unlike traditional protein skimmers there is no collection cup to clean. The flow rate is adjustable by a simple turn of the knob on the top part of the filter near the intake tubes. The unit pump is very quiet. My aquarium is in my living room, so I could hardly hear it when I'm watching television. The only noise I hear is the water from the filter going back to the tank.

The UV sterilizer works on a separate switch and can operate independently from the filter's main pump. I run my filter 24-7, but I turn my UV sterilizer off or on occasionally. When it is on you see just a a slight glow on the bottom of the filter which helps me to remind me that it is on. To replace the bulb, you just unscrew the bottom assembly that houses the bulb.

Overall, I like the quality & value of this filter so far, but time will tell to see how it holds up. If you buy this filter & install it please insure that all of the plastic parts are not cracked and that they all snap together firmly. I made a slight mistake on the intake tube near the top part of the filter in which two pieces were not firmly snapped togther & I had some water run down the side of my tank! Yikes, but it was easily fixed. Overall, you can't beat the price/value for an outside filter, surface skimmer & UV sterilzer all in one unit. Recommended!

If you own a planted aquarium that has a basic lighting system, and you use a minimum amount of fertilizer, your filter is probably good enough to keep your water clear.

However, if you use a hi-tech lighting system such as T-5, or metal halide, injected CO2, and planted and liquid fertilizers, then you are going to have a nearly impossible time keeping your water clean.

The problem with these hi-tech systems is that they generate so many nutrients in the water table of an aquarium, that bacteria and algae not only thrive in such situation, they can actually grow exponentionally when exposed to them.

This will leave you with either very cloudy water from all of the new bacteria as they replicate, or green water from algae as it replicates. One of the other tends to dominate an aquarium with a hi-tech lighting system.

For example, when using a GLO T5 lighting system, pressurized CO2, and liquid and planted fertilizer. this author has had many algae blooms in my aquariums.

The only way that I could clear the water was with the use of a Vortex D1 diatom filter.

And even then, within a day the water turned green again.

So I decided to purchase an AquaTop IL-10UV inline ultraviolet sterilizer to see if it could get rid of the algae blooms.

The IL-10UV ($40) worked so well for one of my planted tanks, that I decided to purchase an AquaTop PF-UV25 for my Aqueon 20 long planted aquarium. I have only owned the PF-UV25 for about two weeks, however, it managed to clean the green water in this aquarium within a matter of 24 hours.

I also like the fact that the PF-UV25 has a separate mains plug for the uv sterilizer bulb, since this allows me to extend the life of this bulb by using it less frequently.

The PF-UV25's power supply is a well made unit with some heft to it, that includes an on-off switch. And this makes it very convenient to use.

The unit's intake tube also includes both a surface skimmer as well as a check valve. I like the inclusion of the check valve, since hob filters tend to drain their water back into the aquarium during a power outage, which might damage a hot uv bulb. I say this since the water is used to keep the bulb cool. So even if the bulb is turned off, it may still be hot enough to crack if the water surrounding its housing is rapidly drained from the PF-UV25's filter housing during a blackout.

Even though the PF-UV25 offers just mechanical and chemical filtration, it is a must for a planted aquarium where hi-tech lighting and injected CO2 are used.

Moreover, if the PF-UV25 stands up as well as my Aquaclear hob filters, this line of filters will be copied by many other manufacturers of hob and canister filters, since they do a superior job of filtering an aquarium.

Some critics of inexpensive uv sterilizers have claimed that the poor quality of the uv bulbs included with these units cannot kill off bacteria.

However, I have seen the PF-UV25 clear an aquarium so full of bacteria that the water was very cloudy, overnight. So these uv sterilizers do work in spite of being inexpensive.

They also clear up green water and prevent it from coming back as long as they are used several times a week ( or kept on 24/7).

I use canister filters for biological filtration. In my 20 gallon long heavily planted aquarium, I use an Eheim 2213 for biological and mechanical filtration, and the AquaTop PF-UV25 for mechanical filtration and uv sterilization. The combination works quite well, and my fish have never looked healthier, or more energetic than they have since I added uv sterilization to my aquariums.

Hats off to AquaTop for making affordable uv systems for aquaria that have made keeping planted aquariums with hi-tech lighting systems very easy to maintain!

And I enthusiastically recommend the AquaTop PF-UV25, given its ability to kill algae and bacteria, while keeping my aquarium's water crystal clear all at an affordable price.

I ordered this product and received it in a timely manner, however the UV bulb was broken. The package had no cushion at all. I called the company and they promptly sent me a new one. This time the outer casing was cracked! I didn't want to wait again, so I took the first one apart, used the casing on it, and now have a working filter.

It's too bad that they don't take the time to properly package this item, as it works wonderfully, once you can get one that isn't damaged!

Fish Mate Supra+

Fish Mate Supra+Every year you are supposed to replace 50% of you biological rocks in your pond filter with new ones. These are made to do a better job than the bio rocks because their is more surface area for the bacteria to attach since they created holes inside. Any filter that uses biological medium can use these to better clean pond and steam water.

It's best to rinse these with pond water rather than chlorinated sink water in order to help the good bacteria that break down bad bacteria alive and a good pH for your water.

Your yearly maintenance should also include a new UV light to keep water clear as typically any filter that has biological filtration also has UV filtration to kill algae and yellow water.

Awesome product. Water is sparkling crystal clear within 24 hours. I had very clean water but the difference is amazing. I credit Supra+ because happened within 24 hours after adding it to the existing lava rocks. Just want to share this information with others. When they get this product instead of discontinued lava rocks be happy! Much, much better.

Buy Fish Mate Supra+ Now

I was all excited about getting what they showed in the picture...you see the biological media and then you see pictures of filters...so you think you are getting it all...WRONG! All you get are the newer version of bio filter rocks..not the lava style you see in the photos. So....seeing all these extra foam filters..NOT part of the deal. Very disappointed about being duped. If they are going to include pictures of the items to get..you should be getting them all.

Getting 1 star was even a push to give.

Spio III CO2 Diffuser - Glass Reactor for Aquarium Plants

Spio III CO2 Diffuser - Glass Reactor for Aquarium PlantsJust purchased two of these diffusers for my 55 gallon planted aquarium. Received them very quickly and am happy to say that I received exactly what I wanted. Not only do they perform extremely well (producing tiny little bubbles that are easily absorbed by the water before they reach the surface), but they look really cool too. I am currently using them with a homemade reactor (2 liter soda bottle, some airline tubing, silicon glue and a mixture of 1/2 tsp yeast, 2 cups of sugar and 1.5 liters of warm water) and it works great! I hope to buy a real CO2 system (running on CO2 canisters) when I have a little extra allowance, but now wondering why when my homemade solution works so well. BTW, these diffusers would work just great with a store-bought CO2 system as well. At any rate, I'm very happy with my high-quality product and it is Amazon Prime -bonus!

This product arrived intact and as described. Since it has been in the tank my plants have been thanking me every day. All the plant are "pearling" by mid afternoon and late into the evening and the existence of photosynthesis has become undeniable. I have an Aquatek co2 regulator that is factory set to 30 PSI output pressure and this has enough for great co2 diffusion. As mentioned by other users, the bubbles are a little big at first and then subside to smaller sizes after a few hours as the ceramic begins to soak. This is my first co2 diffuser so I don't really have anything to compare it to but this certainly serves it's intended purpose well and most bubbles don't make it to the surface of my tank.

Biggest complaint I had was that it did not come with a suction cup....... How am I supposed to attach it to the tank? Stuff it into the substrate? Luckily I had a suction cup laying around the house that was close enough in size to work but is not really my permanent solution. Now I have to find a place to order custom suction cups or find another route. I'm glad I had something close enough laying around.

This diffuser creates a very fine co2 flow, no issues so far, although when I received it there was a good sized chip in the glass just above the ceramic diffuser disk, I took a chance at not wasting a week or two in returning based on the overall cost. I was happy to see that once pressure was applied that it did not crack the glass, would be 5 stars if not for the chipped glass.
