I think this is a beautiful well made product for the price which is a great value.

I put it in my 45 Gallon Tank.

My only caveat is that if you have fish that like to hide, like my pleco, you will only see them at feeding time.

That is why I took the ornament out and saving it for a 65 gallon tank that I am getting in the near future with fish that will swim through it but will not hide all the time.

Pressure-Flo Filter

I purchased this model for my small pond, which is partly in the shade most of the day. I have read that the pond water clears up after several days of use. This is true. My pond was completely green, and I can only see my fishes, when they come up to feed at the surface. After about 2-3 days of constant use, the pond started to show clarity in the water. I'm able to see a few inches below the surface. Today is the 5th day of usage and now I'm able to see at least 10" down. The water in the pond is not as green any more. Of course, I removed and rinsed off the water pump filter everyday. I also took the opportunity to use the backwash feature to clean the UV filter as well. This was very easy to do. I use the collected backwash water to water my flowers and garden. Just note that when you use the backwash, water from your pond is lost. So it needs to be refill to the same level as before. I'm quite happy with the way the unit is working. I love the locking and quick release (in/out) nozzles. However, this unit will only fit 3/4" to 1 1/4". I wished the nozzles extended to 1/2", which would have made installing extremely easy. My small pond has a small water pump, which can only fit a 1/2" hose. I have a coil of 1/2" hose, but I can't use. I had to stop by Lowe to buy a roll of 20' 3/4" flexible hose and a 3/4" to 1/2" adapter. For this reason, I only gave this product a 4 stars instead of 5 stars. Also, I was surprised to see the unit is quite bulkier than I had expected.

Update: Just want to let everyone knows that after about 10 days, my pond is clear all the way to the bottom. I can see all the fishes hiding at the bottom when I approach. I'm able to spot out debris, such as leaves, etc. which helped with the cleaning. I'm glad I got this unit, and now I'm enjoying my pond immensely.

This is a really nice filter to have on my pond, about 1000-1500 gallons. I claims its only good for 1400, but that depends on what you actually have in the pond. When I first established my pond I put in Pond Zyme, and Marble chips. The marble chips left a white cloudy water, however this filter took the cloudy out in about 24 hours.

After opening it up, I do not believe that the self cleaning back wash system will work as good as it claims. They are using two arms that scrap the sides of the foam inside to knock off the sediment, which then you can dump somewhere else, instead of the pond. This concept seems good, but without actually taking out the filter, there is no way to get this anywhere near clean enough. But it does do a good job once the pond has some bacteria.

I do wish the filter had its own pump. This is because I purchased a separate pump to go with this at 1800 GPH, of course my flow restrictions are blocking me down to 1400 or so. The 1800 GPH pump is really small, it could have easily fit inside of this filter.

Next, I really wish this had screw on pipe nipples instead of these clip in place version. Yes its nice when you need to take it appart, but it is one pain to find the right connections for setting up the back wash system.

Having studied the various options on how to build my own KOI pond for the last 3 years, I am now settled on a very comfortable 300 Gallon tank with a design that will allow me to add a little more fishes as needed.

Here are the components and my reviews for each of them

(1) Rubber Main tank

Well, it is a nice size tank for KOI. I now have 7 KOI's sizes between 6 12 inches. I plan to have may be 2-3 more in the next few months. I know that 300 Gallon may not be a good size for them after they grow to >24 inch but I intend to make it work with over filtering design. To me, this will be several more years, as I am not the "over feeding" owner :-)

The tank is made with good strong and "fish safe" material. It is quite sturdy in design and able to handle the load of water (completely filled up) without a doubt. it just happened that it rained a lot once I got this tank, so I tested to full capacity with rain water (from down sprout) for a few days. by putting it on my backyard concrete patio. So far, no sign of bending or cracking. The drain plug (included) comes with threaded (1.5 in OD PVC adapter) was very handy to drain out those water when I was ready to move it for real installation.

(2) Danner Mag Drive Pump

This is the first component of my "over filtering" design. The pros recommend that the whole volume of the pond be completely circulated through filter at least twice in an hour. In my case, a 600 GPH pump should be enough, but I compensate for the smaller pipe and some flow rate loss etc. I estimated that my actual flow rate out of my system will still be somewhat 700+/-50 GPH from this pump. The pump is made with good quality material, the only moving part is that impeller. Having Magnetic drive technology is extremely important, because it will be running 24/7 for 365 days a year. I want to make sure that the pump will not pumping money out of my bank as much as it does for the water. Having checking calculation from may reputable web site, this thing will cost me around $3-$5 a month in electricity. Not bad at all. I gave it 5 stars.

(3) TotalPond PF850 Pressurized Biological Filter

In my design, I am looking for some kind of enclose trap. Such that, the unwanted debris of leaves, fish drops etc. will be collected here first. This way there will be much less of this stuff that will go to the next filtering stage. It turns out, this thing come with it's own sponge and bio balls so it serves as an extra bio filter to my design. This filter is made of some okay type of plastic. The connectors to the water pipe will have to be tighten from the inside of the filter I found this to be a spot where I need to pay a little extra attention. The lid also comes with extra O-ring to prevent leakage but still it has to be really tighten up real good. In my design, my MAG DRIVE pump will push the water straight from the tank into this filter, hence there will be high a pressure for this filter. So, tighten things up really good is very important. This is where I take 1 star from it I found this to be a little tricky to get it just right.

(4) Laguna Pressure-Flo 700 UVC Filter

This is where I expect my real action for my bio filter and algae prevention. Having inspect the unit, I am quite convinced that I have made the right choice. Material is well made with good quality kind. It has a well design bio foam with cleaning blade and back flush if you are the first timer to having back yard pond. Trust me, you need this feature for your filter. It also comes with built-in UV light. Althogh only 11 Watts, I was not quite sure if it will hold. But again, with over filtering design, I hope it will. Only time will tell. Installation and testing was easy to do no big deal for DIY at all. So far, it works well for me I gave it 5 stars.

In my design, it connects like this Rubber Maid tank -> 3/4 pipe -> MAG DRIVE PUMP -> 3/4 pipe -> Total Pond ->3/4 pipe -> Laguna Filter -> Rubber Maid Tank

I'm in GA, our winter is not that cold but there are days where it gets below freezing. So, with helps of my kid, I decided to bury 1/3 of the tank into the ground. The filter + pump are at ground level. When filling it up, I can still get the benefit of gravity to help flow the water. Digging + Installation to me 1.5 days. I filled it up and run it to check for leaks by the end of the second day all leakages were fixed. That when I start to add the enzyme (same thing I used with my earlier aquarium tank) / salt and stuff to prepare the water. Then I let it run for 8 days to make sure the good bacteria are well adjusted. Testing pH it was perfect.

My KOI's have been living in this system now for 2 weeks. The location of my pond is such that it has some shade most of the day from near by trees. Only between 11am 2pm that it will be in full sun. I build a floating basket (24 in diameter) that I plan to plant water lily this thing is a perfect shade for the fish during full sun. I noticed that between day 3-5 the water was a little less than crystal clear but it is still clear. After that, it slowly return to crystal clear I guess the bacteria was adjusting to the increase amount of nitrate and stuff that my KOI's dumped out.

So far, I am pretty happy with this design. Well, it seems to be working for 2 weeks now (fingers' crossed). My neighbors like it and asked that I share the design. I will do some drawing and pictures when I have a moment.

Exotic Environments Egyptian Vase Aquarium Ornament

I bought this vase today at my local major pet retail chain. I was looking to replace a bridge for my betta fish Khufu (the paint on four ends of the bridge was falling off). I didn't see any other bridges so I opted for this vase. I must say I like this vase better than a bridge and apparently so does Khufu. He pretty much took to the vase right away. Usually it takes a day or two for my bettas to figure out the purpose of the ornament I place into their tanks. I think it is really adorable seeing my boy Khufu swim in and out of his vase, and it is even cuter when I see his cute face sticking out of the top of the vase. I am glad I bought this vase for my betta fish. It has proven to a source of amusement for him. If there is one thing I have learned from my bettas, they love swimming in and out of things like vases. It alleviates their boredom in captivity.

My Betta fish instantly fell in love with this vase and spends a lot of time in it It's very dark inside, and sometimes I can't even see the fish while he's in it. I filed down some jagged edges with a nail file before placing it in the tank. No holes are too small for a betta fish.

Perfect size for any tank, and if you have a 10 gallon or larger, there will be a lot of room left for other decorations.

I have an Egyptian themed tank and my cichlids LOVE this little broken vase. I, myself, didn't have to deal with sharpened edges like some of the other people have said. Nature's Pure Series Seamless Glass Aquarium Sphere 10x8 in - 1.5 Gallons

We bought three of these for our beta fishies. The glass is beautiful and the quality is good. We decorated each differently with colorful gravel and plastic plants. They are gorgeous! The size is great for one fish and they are easy to wash. We've had them for a while and so far, no breakage. The bowls are very noticeable and we got many compliments. They do get heavy when we need to change the water, but we don't need to clean them too often because they are big (takes time for the water to get dirty). Fish and humans are very happy!!

Not much more to say. The glass was definitely a bit of a splurge compared to acrylic, but looks so much nicer, stays cleaner over time. Shipped securely. Smooth edges and no visible flaws in glass. Feels sturdy thickness.

Ok so i bought the Koralia 400gph to create a stronger current in my 30 gallon freshwater fish tank and it works just fine. It does the job i want it to do and thats make a small current because i have some small danio's (which love current btw) and i didnt want them to get sucked into it. Now the general rule of thumb for tanks is that you always go for a little more power than you need for anything but again becuase of my smaller fish i didnt. I have noticed though that even my 8" bala shark swims against the current and seems to enjoy the small current so even big fish notice it but if you have decent size fish and have between a 30 45 gallon tank i suggest going for the 600gph Koralia.

Bought this product to help circulate water in my 55 gallon fish tank because a friend said the more you move the water the cleaner the water will look. After a week of use the product worked great. DrTim's Aquatics Ammonium chloride for Aquarium

You have to add more than twice as much than the dosing instructions to get to desired ppm of ammonia.

I applied this to my fish tank and it seems to be working as intended. I tested the water parameters and the instructions on the bottle seem to be on par; 1 drop for every gallon. The only complaint I have is how it was packaged and shipped. The bottle, itself, is inside a sealed plastic bag. Upon opening the package I found the bottle leaked into the bag. Everything was contained though, so for myself it was not a deal breaker.

I just received the skimmer yesterday so I can't comment on it's performance, but it looks like a good unit.

The comment I will make is that it doesn't come with a water pump. I spent about 1/2 hour looking at the documentation online before I purchased trying to determine what else I need. I would have liked to have it indicated that a pump was not included. Frustrating to have to re-order parts later.

I believe that this has the potential to be a great skimmer, however, I'm not sure I will ever know. I have a problem with the skimmer maintaining a consistent water level in the tank, going back and forth every minute or so between staying where it should be and them dropping 5 inches before returning. So the problem is that the water level doesn't stay high enough to skim on a consistent basis. I'm guessing that it's not a big deal to fix, but the Hydor web site (nice looking but no useful content) has no info in it's forums, and a call to the USA phone number was met with a message to not call them, but to submit a message through the web site, which I have done and am waiting foe someone to call that hopefully I can explain the problem to and get some ideas. I wanted this type of skimmer because it did not have to be placed at a certain height, and didn't have to be in the sump. (I have the 3005 model). What little time is skims successfully, it is awesome, but that's not very often. If I manage to solve the issue I believe it will be great, but with no access to customer service I don't know what to try next.

Initially I had purchased a Performer 2005 and received it broken. Apparently it took a hard hit somewhere in the shipping process to Amazon and the whole body was shattered and in pieces. Called Amazon and they were wonderful (as usual, that is why I am a Prime Member and try to ONLY buy through Prime). They immediately sent out the 3005 because they had no more 2005's in stock and I needed a skimmer for my 450 gallon tank. Got the 3005 and the top of the collection cup was cracked all the way through around where the cap attached to the circular underside. OK, that was not a deal breaker since the skimmer could function with the cap cracked. Set up the unit and waited for the break in period which is usually no longer than a week. Called Hydor and they told me that it could take up to 10 days. By the 10th day it was still doing nothing. Called Hydor again and they told me to take the sponge out of the Seltz pump which was running it. Well then it decided to overflow all over the place...I had 5 gallons of water all over the room, so I called them again and they said it should not do that, then they decided that there must have been an error in lining up the outlet valve so the markings on the unit did not correspond with the amount of water it was letting out. Then it decided to go from nothing to overflowing Again and dumped out another 5 gallons on the floor. At that point I had had enough and called Amazon who cheerfully issued the call tag and is issuing a full refund.

Bio-Wheel Assembly for Penguin 150B Power Filter

The product itself had two problems. Firstly, it was shipped in an envelope so when it arrived the plastic disc on the end of the wheel was broken. I was able to fix it with epoxy glue. But the reason I ordered the bio-wheel in the first place was that the one that came with the filter did not turn. It was not close enough to the water for the flowing water to make it spin. The same was true with the new wheel. I glued 4 slats made out of plastic equally spaced to the fins on the wheel. The added slats are about 1/8 in deep. Now it spins and works like it is supposed to.Interestingly, I also have a Penguin 100 filter for another aquarium, and it works fine out of the box.

biOrb No Algae Service Kit

I live in a "glass house" which means my biOrb gets lots of sunlight and, therefore, lots of algae! I used this in conjunction with cleaning the entire Orb out. I didn't realize it's not for "continuous use" though. I have had the same success with completely cleaning the tank and simply replacing the regular-type cartridge. The Orb is expensive enough to maintain -why add to the cost?

I didn't realize it wasn't a long term filter when I bought it, but decided to keep it in case I have an algae bloom in the tank because cleaning the bio media gravel using standard algae killer will be more damaging than using this temporary filter. It was easier to keep than return it.

I didn't pay close enough attention to the fact that these aren't supposed to replace your regular filter, but are meant to be used for a short amount of time to help get rid of algae... I'd just assume clean my tank out, so I was dissapointed that I wasted the same amount as a regular filter.

I've sliced my thumb more than once hand tightening this onto the faucet, I recommend using some channel locks or a rag or both. I wish it didn't have the sharp serrated edge, but it's easily solved by some forethought.

The plastic thread wears down really quickly, so I decided to get this one instead and it is much better in terms of how well it fits on, and the life of it as well.

Fair warning, I sliced my finger open trying to get it off of the tap, so be careful as thin threading is quite sharp! If it is tightened too much, best way to get it off is with pliers (won't damage it) or with a damp cloth

Fluval EDGE Pre-Filter Sponge

A lot of people make homemade prefilters, but many of them just look like crap. The Fluval Edge looks great, fits perfectly, does the job well, and is only about $3 or so, depending who you buy it from.

UPDATE: I am not using this prefilter in my main tank anymore. It is great for a fry tank or a shrimp tank where you don't want them to be sucked into the intake, but it just reduces suction and flow too much. Large debris particles were not being removed from the water. I am now using some mesh from a media bag, secured with some rubber bands, which improves flow and will still keep even my small Tetras from being sucked up.

As a fishkeeper, I have quite a few guppies that are constantly reproducing, which in the past has led me to purchase a sponge filter that takes up quite a bit of room in my tank.

The small size of the fry also forced me to turn off the hob filter that I was using at the time, in order to prevent guppy fry from being sucked into its intake.

Then I saw these Fluval Edge prefilters online, remembered reading that the Fluval Edge 6 gallon aquarium uses an Aquaclear 20 filter, and decided to purchase a few of these prefilters to install on my guppy tanks.

They have worked out extremely well, reducing the amount of detrius in my Aquaclear filters, while being much quicker to clean.

You simply slip the prefilter off the intake of the Aquaclear filter, rinse it under some filtered water, and reinstall it. The entire process takes less than a minute.

As such, this author highly recommends the Fluval Edge prefilter for use on the aforementioned Aquaclear hob filters.

The pre-filter sponge is useful when you are breeding small shrimp and fish, as this will stop them from being sucked into your filter.

The foam flows very well as long as it is properly maintained. I find that I need to rinse out the foam because it collects a lot of fine particles especially after a water change where debris in the gravel gets kicked up into the water. I would not recommend this if you are not prepared to rinse out the sponge regularly

Having this sponge on helps keep the main filter pad from getting dirty as fast, and is simple to rinse. I enjoy the reduced costs/wastes associated with replacing a dirty filter pad

I kinda messed up on this one, save some cash and get the three pack for 50 cents more! I accidentally clicked on the single and got this one. Imagine my dissapointment when I opened my package and saw only one... $3.49 for this little prefilter is rediculously expensive, its just a small piece of foam for god's sake (thats the main reason I gave this 3 stars)! It is really really tiny (this is the other reason I gave it 3 stars), I expected it to be a little bigger well much bigger. But if this is the size your looking for it is a good product and fits well on smaller HOB filters with a 1 inch lift tube. At least the box was kinda nice for $3.59... Outrageous!

I have three dwarf hamsters, for a dwarf hamster this cage does everything very good. I have summarized all of the good points below.

SizeThe area of this cage is an average size I measured about 10" X 15" but the cage is also very tall 15" the cage is plenty big enough for one dwarf hamster.

Having had hamsters growing up, we decided to allow my son to get two. I had many different types of cages from one story to three story cages and have never had any fall or get hurt as I have seen mentioned in reviews on other cages. We decided on this cage and purchased it locally at pet smart. I must say it was very easy to put together (5 minutes), is very sturdy and easy to clean. W have not had any problems with hamsters escaping as it is very well made. We are getting ready to add to it with more tunnels and another cage.

I have a uromastyx (if you couldn't tell from the title). While I use greens for her base, I like to sprinkle this on her food to make sure she is getting a good variety. FLUVAL U3 Foam Pad Filter Media x 12pk

Just like the carbon cartridge, these are very easy to install. I replace them once per month and the water is clean and clear. The U3 filter works just as well as a canister filter with no hoses.

This purchase is a great value. I really like the Fluval filter system but the cost of changing the filters as often as recommended is higher than I would like. Now I can get a large number at a better price.
