The cable just stopped heating a few weeks ago. If they sent me a free replacement, I wouldn't take it, because it's not worth enough to pay me for the 10 or so hours it would take to lift 30 lbs of sand and all the landscaping out of my tank to replace this thing. *Sad*

The cable is heating my tank nicely, under a sand bed. I'm using it with a thermostat.

The installation was a bit alarming, because the suction cups only stayed on for 5 minutes at first. Then I reset them 3-5 times, and they stayed on long enough to cover the cable with the sand. I'm pretty sure they're stuck in place just fine under the sand, but I would not use them without substrate or with easily movable one.

Not sure if it's absolutely necessary, and a lot more expensive than the typical heater, but with the Hydor thermostat it works great !!

Product appears to work well, but I purchased it for a little 6 gallon tank that will be housing small jellyfish. When I received the cable I placed it into the tank and tested it out before I let it with my fish. The cable was much longer than what I personally needed for the small tank, and so there was much still outside of the tank. After about an hour the entire cable was extremely hot. Hot enough to not be able to touch, so I unplugged it, waited for it to cool, and took it out of the tank.

It may be a good cable for tanks in which you can place the entire cable in, but if you are looking for something to hide in a small tank like I was, not sure it is the product to use if you can't place the entire cable in it.

The insides of the skull have small ridges where crickets may hide, although I've never seen any do it.

Cricket legs scattered around it add to the elephant graveyard look.

All of the white paint has flaked off in my tank...no sure where it went...now it's entirely a drab, confluent gray since it's nothing but the hardened resin...crap product!

The inside of this ornament is full of sharp jagged ridges. If you want to use it for delicate animals, you are going to have to spend some time sanding them down. But on the plus side it does look really cool.

I really like this aquarium net that Tetra put out. It is similar to the net that Marina makes in that it looks like it has the same exact mesh size and material, even the plastic at the tip of the handle is the same. In fact every thing is just about the same, except it seems as though the handle on the Tetra is made a little thicker. This is a longer handled net though (than Marina's offerings) which allows me to get into most of my aquariums without even getting my hand wet. The mesh is a perfect size and doesn't harm the fish in any way. Not much to say because it is just a good old aquarium net.

API Calcium Test Kit

API is the bargain end of SW testing equipment. Typically good for fish only tanks, soft tanks, and occasionally LPS tanks. However, since calcium needs only to stay constant and in a certain range, the test doesn't necessarily need to be as accurate as a Nitrate test where you need to be able to monitor nitrates between 0-5ppm. So long as you occasionally have your calcium tested using Salifert or other higher end brand by your fish store or friend, this test works well for week to week testing.

It's true it does take up to 25 drops to get a reading, however the first 15 or so can be added in batches of 4 or five. Espically if you already kinda know what your reading should be. You can just add up until that point, then slow down for the most accurate reading. It normally doesn't take more then 3 minutes or so.

I purchased this aquarium kit as an upgrade from my Betta's bowl. The aquarium itself is a decent, rimless glass tank for the price. A nice little extra is the mat cut to the tank's footprint that comes in the kit. The hinged top is a piece of plastic so that it is unbreakable--which is good since the hinges come apart frequently with use. There is a tiny submersible filter that does work quietly and can contain sponge, carbon or ceramic media.

The light that comes with the kit is nearly unuseable. It is a mere 0.6 watt LED which is barely enough for a 'moon light'. The really annoying thing is there is no on/off switch and you have to plug and unplug the lamp to operate it.

For about $64.00 shipped, this works as an upgrade for the Betta bowl, but is definitely not suitable for maintaining live plants. If it were not a definite shipping expense to return, I would send it back and save the cash for a better setup.

Design Elements Yellow Coral Aquarium Ornament

This is pretty cool, it is much more green than yellow, the whole center is green and then there's a 1/4 inch band around the outside that is yellow. The base is black and it turned the sand in my tank black. It seems kind of sharp and rough but the fish don't seem to care. I have one cichlid who has dug the sand out from under the edge and uses this as his "spot."

Nice piece with good colors but note that the middle of it is much more green than it looks, very much two tone.

Super Feeder ASF-1 Aquarium Feeder with Analog Timer (style may vary) Smoke Color and Holds 4 and 3

I bought this item because I was going on vacation and wanted to spare my relatives the bother of feeding my fish. I liked the fact that this feeder has a large hopper which will allow me to feed the fish for the extended period I am away. Given its size and the number of feedings I have programmed, I expect I could be gone a month and not run out of food. (I have a 39 gal. tank with about a dozen fish.)

In any case I got it early and set it up on my tank to make sure it would work properly and therefore tried it out for about 3-4 weeks before I went on vacation. It seems to work as advertized. The only problem I encountered was that the hopper extending into the tank tended to fog up with the tank hood completely closed. When it fogged up, the food got stuck to the hopper and as time went by it totally clogged up. I solved the problem by propping the tank hood open about 3/4 of an inch, which allows the vapor to escape the tank and so now it does not fog up. Again testing it for about 2 weeks in this mode it seemed to work fine and the food did not stick to the hopper. I am now on vacation and only time will tell if the fish feeder did its job. Hopefully I'll return to well fed and thriving fish.

I used this product to feed a 10 pound cat dry food morsels. I used the feeder for exactly 1 year (before the cat died). My cat was an obsessive eater. She would make our lives miserable by begging, rather attacking us for food; waking us up 4 hours before breakfast and purposefully ruining anything we were doing 2 hours or more before dinnertime. We had tried two other automatic feeders during the previous 10 years and she had broken into the two other automatic cat food dishes in no time (one she broke into within minutes). She did not thwart this feeder, she really only tried twice to break into it but gave up fairly quickly and never tried again. I had purchased the chute, which is an accessory, which may or may not have been needed to thwart her attempts. The feeder, itself is much smaller than the pictures reveal, which is a good thing.

I had the one hopper (it comes with) and purchased one additional "hopper extension." So, my feeder had a total of two square plastic "hopper" pieces. With the hopper and one hopper extension, I only had to fill the feeder up once a week, which was an unexpected liberating bonus. It was incredibly nice not to worry about twice-a-day feedings or even filling up the feeder daily (unless the power went out).

Generally, a problem with any hopper style feeder is you can only put one type of food in the machine, so they are eating only one flavor/brand all week. (We tried layering foods, but each food was different in size, so that did not work with this feeder.) And a specific problem with this feeder, for cat food, was it took about 10 minutes to set the hopper each time the morsel shape of the food changed (to unplug it from the timer, move it away from the cat, and actually set, test, reset, and retest the amount dropped). And to set the feeder, it required a high level of precision, since one tiny movement of the setting, altered the amount of food it would drop dramatically. Then, once I set the feeder with the precision of a watch maker, the amount of food dropped each feeding was inconsistent. I was required to set with precision, but the feeder dropped within a range of amounts. Generally, by the end of the week, I liked to think each feeding averaged out to the correct amount (of a 1/2 cup per day).

I also found that when the hopper was full/near full or it had 20% or less left in the hopper, it dropped out a lot more than it was set to drop. When it was only 20% full, the feeder ran the risk of dropping every morsel of food remaining in the hopper. I just learned to keep it 20% or more full. When it was full or near full, the weight of the food in the two-piece high hopper seemed to push a greater amount of food out (than it was set to drop).

The feeder did work, in that the cat could not get into it, it fed her sufficiently, and within a week of owning the feeder, the cat learned the feeder fed her and not us, so she quit waking us up daily at 4AM for 8AM breakfast or aggressively begging for food and annoying us 2 hours before dinner daily. The feeder did separate us from the food in the cats' mind, which made our lives unbelievably better. The last year we had the feeder with her, our lives improved tremendously. Glad we bought it.

The light came to me well packed by seller..after support foam for bulbs was removed just plug in!! My corals love this light! They hated the led from marinelife i was using.. Too harsh?no ac blue... This light also has a covered switch so salt cant get to it... Only 1issue... I built a homemade aeroponics system and am using this pump as a way to spray my roots. It works great and is creating a nice multi-stream spray that gets to my roots! Its also relatively quiet with nothing more than a little hum coming from it. The splashing water (in a good trickle sort of way) is heard more loudly than this pump working.

The only noise I hear is the water flowing. It's pretty quiet. It only has one moving part so hopefully it will last a good long while. I liked it so much I got a second one for my system (to pump water back and forth in an aquaponics system).

It comes with several attachments which is nice.

This is actually the 3rd EcoPlus I have purchased. The other two weren't as strong and since I'm going from the floor up about 5feet to my 40g aquarium I needed it to have a decent output up that kind of incline. I haven't been disappointed. I attach a garden hose, put the pump in my aging tank of water, put the other end of the hose into the aquarium and plug it in. It does a really nice job and I highly recommend it for this type of use.

This is the most helpful product for any tank over 40 gallons, someone with back problems, or just those that are sick and tired of the water mess and buckets.

It's very well manufactured, even comes with a warranty, and it is soooo much easier to make a water change. Just hook it up, turn on your faucet and start syphoning. Also no mess when filling the tank back up.

If the aquarium is located a little higher than the sink you're using it will continue to syphon by itself and you can turn off the faucet. Otherwise the ratio is 5gal tank water syphoned out per gallon out of the faucet, which could be a little wasteful with bigger tanks.

I would give this product 10 stars, not 5. It's unbelievable how easy and enjoyable my fish tank maintanance become since I started using this kit. Not mentioning the quality of water and general appearance of the tank. Even algea bothers me much less since. I am always kind of sceptical when reading somebody else's product review, but never afraid to try something new myself. In this case it pays off 100% very smart, efficient and convenient device, doesn't require much space for storage and easy to use. The price is affordable as well. Do not hesitate to buy it if you have pretty big fish tank mine is 29 gallons. This product is so helpful, it's ingenious. A simple vacuum/pump arrangement lets you suck water out of the aquarium and pump it back in without effort. I have a 29 gallon tank and only a 2 gallon bucket. Water changes used to take 30-40 minutes. Now, I can accomplish the same task in 10-15 minutes depending on the water pressure I use.

In contrast to the typical siphon gravel vac that comes with most aquarium kits, I find that the fish are less startled and less traumatized by the water changes using the Python. It also sucks up more waste than the siphon vac. As a new aquarist, this handy device has made tank maintenance very easy, thus helping me keep my enthusiasm for the hobby high. Looking forward to expanding to a 55g tank in the fall. Highly recommended.

The hose and syphon end is very good and durable. I have owned 4 of these since they came out. All of them broke at the faucet end, Drain/Fill part...ended up replacing them with waterbed fill kits, and those break too. (BTW) exactly the same thing! The other issue is there in-line shut off valves are junk as well. Lost $400 of Orange Mellow Angels because I had the hose in the tank with the valve shut off....got a phone call and came back 40mins later to continue my water changes to find a broken heater and dead fish with 1/4" of water in the tank. Valve was definitely shut off! I did a test with it on another tank and witnessed it drain a 30 gal tank in 40 minutes, with valve shut off, they leak around seal....needless to say, it got pitched and I got to flush cash down the drain (dead fish). I still use them however, I hook it up directly to faucet to fill tank and use a clamp to hold hose to utility sink to drain with it. Trick is to start filling tank with it on faucet then turn water off, unscrew it and it will start the syphon for you. Hope this helps.

All Glass Aquarium AAG21782 Fluorescent Deluxe Hood, 26bf

The review below is pretty harsh, I just got this because I was in desperate need of a hood, and it's actually pretty decent or at least what you'd expect for a fish tank hood :)

I got a deal on a 26-gallon bow front tank and stand from my local pet store $50 but didn't include a hood. Based on the measurements, the tank (which could very well be an Aqueon tank) matched the dimensions of this hood close enough to chance it.

As it turns out, this hood is an AQUEON-brand hood, as mentioned below and comes in Aqueon packaging. So if you have an Aqueon 26 bow-front tank, I'd wager this is the hood meant for it. It comes with a Fluorescent light (which is probably why it's called the Flo Deluxe).

Here's my thoughts:

' It shipped right away and arrived after 2 days It came 4 days ahead of the earliest estimated arrival time.

' The fitment is perfect side to side, but leaves a small gap from front to back However, that gap it isn't large enough to cause any water to be exposed, or even be noticeable unless you're looking at it closely. It still rests on both the front and back ledge. The gap may be to allow the hood enough space to open and close (the entire front of the hood flips up).

' The fluorescent light is bright it illuminates my entire tank however this was actually the biggest negative to me. It it gives a purple tint to all the white objects in the tank / "black-light" effect which can be either good or bad. Personally I'm not digging it at the moment, but I don't like fluorescent lights period.

' The material is average black fish-tank plastic with textured effect.

' It's a hood that fits a weird size/shape tank, when you need a hood that fits a weird size/shape tank. It's functional, and it's good enough quality for a fish tank :)

This hood was terrible, i ordered it for my Aqueon 26 Bow Front Aquarium. The hood you receive, IS and Aqueon, but it is made of very cheap plastic and it doesn't fit the aquarium correctly. every time you move the hood just a little bit, it dips down into the aquarium. I was very disappointed in this product and now I have to pay to return this garbage.The one thing i did like about this hood, was the light itself. It was a very nice light fixture and the bulb was bright. But other than that i don't like it. I would suggest to anyone who wants to buy this, to just purchase a 26 Bow Front Aquarium Glass Canopy and a separate light fixture, or just making the Canopy yourself with some plexi-glass.

Loving Pets No-Tip with Etched Lines Bowl for Dogs and Cats, 8-Ounce, Pink, 2-Pack

These bowls arrived smelling like tires from a factory. The paint job was atrocious; after I washed them I noticed residual spray paint on the inner part of the bowl itself. I refuse to feed my cats out of this bowl for fear the spray paint will leach into their food. I have had to cut off the bad leaves and tie real plants to the stems just to get height for the tank I have them in.

Fluval Flora Stainless Steel Planting Tongs - 10.63-inches

I have a 5-gallon planted tank with Crystal Red Shrimp and tons of tiny live plants. With the piece of wood that I have in the tank and the fear of smashing small critters, I bought these tweezers, Fluval Plant Scissors, and long tweezers without the bend in the tip. These are great for planting individual pieces of bunch plants and GREAT for catching and squishing snails. Who needs chemical snail control when you have the therapy and satisfaction of squishing them yourself? The tweezers made themselves triply valuable when I started a 65-gallon 36x18 planted tank. Even on a stool I am up to my armpit in water to reach the bottom. These tweezers make it possible to replant the bottom of the tank and pick up debris on the bottom, rearrange stones and wood, and minutely adjust anything that needs adjusting. I have used them to deliberately place tiny bits of glossostigma, dwarf baby tears, flame moss, christmas tree moss, and riccia where I need it and to hold them in place while using fishing line to attach it to wood, rocks, or in the gravel.

I recommend these for anyone who has a planted tank. The angled tips make even the hardest-to-reach corners easily accessible, and keep clumsy fingers away from delicate roots and critters.

Buy these on Amazon! Prime customers can get them in 2 days for less than half the cost of a fish store.

This must be some really bad stainless steel. These tongs rusted in no time. I only use them for my freshwater aquarium. I got them on sale, otherwise I'd be very disappointed.

I had a pair of no-brand stainless steel tongs I bought from eBay for 10 dollars a while back. It proved to be very useful and comfortable to use, I decided to look on Amazon to take advantage of my Prime membership. At the time I bought this, it was 10 dollars. I see that it is cheaper now, so it's probably worth the money at the time of this writing (11/14/11), but I would not have purchased this if I had known the followings:

A bit too much resistance on the tongs when trying to grab squeeze the tongs.

Round but non-smooth tips screeches against fish tank glass.

My eBay one has none of these flaws, but for 6 bucks, it's not bad a bad buy with Prime.

If you're looking for surgical precision, look somewhere else. When you pince the tip together you can see a gap near the tip of the prongs, this causes a bit weaker grip. The strongest grip right at the angle, its not the greatest grip but overall gets the job done... Kinda. I def prefer my hands for some uses

Total waste of money it will actually make your water worse. This product should be refined to better quality. I would not recommend this product.

I used this product on 2 of my tanks. One tank contained a red bay snook and my other tank held 2 goldfish and 2 small tinfoil barbs. It cleared up my snook tank beautifully. I used a half dose on my small fish tank and within an hour, both barbs were dead? The goldfish were unaffected. It says in the written description on the back, "Safe for fish." I contacted the company and explained to them what happened. They were very helpful and willing to connect me with the warranty department. (2 stars for that). I told them I just wanted information regarding this product so I could avoid anymore poisoned fish. She didn't have an answer for me. She was going to have someone from the company contact me on the next business day. Never happened. I threw the product out. Based on my own experience and the little info I have, I won't be using this product again.

I have goldfish and was hoping this would help to clarify the water between cleanings. Unfortunately I don't think it has much, if any, effect on the water clarity. So not really worth it from what I can tell.

Tetra Water Clarifier does an alright job clearing up the water, but not nearly as well as the more concentrated drop solutions you can find here. I've since switched over to API Accu-Clear.

Kyjen Dog Games Ball-in-Ball

My Morkie had this ball for exactly 5 minutes and tore the rubber! I am very disappointed because the concept is exactly what she needs!!

I've had this toy for a couple of days and my dogs (Labrador retrievers) absolutely love it! They haven't figured out how to get the tennis ball out yet, but they are having a lot of fun trying. I keep it out of reach when they aren't supervised just to keep it entertaining for them when they do get to play with it. It seems pretty sturdy to me and they haven't chewed off any of the rubber yet. I suppose they could chew pieces off if they really tried but the rubber is decently thick.

This is my second Kyjen dog toy. I bought the Cagey Cube Dog Puzzle a couple of weeks ago, which they also love! However, it doesn't seem to be as challenging for them as this one (Ball in Ball).

My dog absolutely loves balls. Her favorite thing is to pounce on them and bat them around with her paws, so this seemed like a great idea.

She absolutely loved it. She pounched on it, she carried it, etc. It was a great toy until it tore while she was carrying it. She's an 8 month old Doberman, and this ball is bigger than her head so I was pretty surprised that it tore so easily.

The problem is that the outer ball is a kind of thin rubber and it doesn't hold its shape very well (at least, the one I received didn't).

Two stars because it's a great toy concept, but the outer ball needs to be made out of a sturdier material. I'd pay extra if it were, but I can't justify getting a replacement that's just going to tear.

The toy seems pretty durable which is a big winner for me because usually the toys that I buy for my dogs don't last quite long. The toy itself has a tennis ball inside which I really like you don't have to buy two separate toys. I also love the fact that it has a ball inside and they can try to entertain themselves. So awesome.

Cool product with a great concept. My dogs love it. The material on the outside is well made and perfect for chewing. After fetching the tennis ball the dogs are excited to try to get it out of being hidden in another ball. Got dirty real quick but very easy to wash.

K&H Rubber Thermo-Hose Ice Free Water Hose

K&H markets their products to animal owners, and I think they're missing a small market. As a winter/snow rv fanatic, I bought this hose to help with camping in the Sierras. Just needed something to make sure that the water and hose weren't freezing on the coldest nights (bottoming out around -10).

After talking with K&H about my application, they confirmed the description and other feedback. The ends are not heated so they will also need to be wrapped or protected from cold. I chose to wrap them in foam and didn't worry about heating them seems to have worked for my application. We'll see how well this works over time.

As for staying warm, it was enough to melt the snow that I dropped it onto and when I woke it was on solid ground, and the water was still free-flowing, which is exactly what I would have expected.

As an added bonus, K&H did answer their phone right away when I called them and Amazon delivered 2nd day as promised.

The Hose worked great in cold weather, but it dried & cracked in less than 6 months from exposure to the sunny weather. The ice didn't get it but the sun did. I was hoping to leave it in use year round and only unplug the heater during the warmer months. Now it makes a good sprinkler hose. For the price I was expecting it to last at least 3-4 winters.

This water hose has been an absolute life saver!!! We were having to disconnect our waterhose on very cold nights. We purchased this water hose and used it all winter long. The only issue I have with it is that the water has a rubber taste to it. So it is not good for drinking, but great for everything else!
