Pros;

Nice kit, everything included except rocks & plants. Good price.

Cons; LED light seems to have a bad design. My LED crashed 1 1/2 month after install. After inspection, the flimsy switch and power inlet both had corrosion. Would recommend using the light and removing and placing it in a dry area after each use. Leaving it on the tank seems to invite humidity and could make the LED light fail.

Great tank for beginners and novices. All in one just like previous comment said. I also had my LED light go out about 5 months in. Took apart the light and saw major corrosion. Not sure what to do at this point. All the other parts work well and can't complain about that. I might switch out for regular lighting so I can use live plants.

Penn-Plax 3" Brine Shrimp Net

No one would look for a bs net to collect adult bs. For that any fine fish net would do the job. I was looking for a brineshrimp net for bbs. I bought 1 and found out it was too coarse to use for bbs. I asked Penn Plax, they told me that's for adult BS. How many fish hobbyist raise adult BS vs. hatching bbs? If a net was labeled brineshrimp net, every body automatically assummed it's for bbs which is most common with fish keeping. As I said above, if one were looking for adult bs net, he could use a fine fish net. I have older bs nets from Penn Plax, and the oldest one was perfect for bbs. The newer one is pretty lousy, only 30% of bbs get retained. The newest net is the worst. I believe that calling this net a bs net is totally misleading. Buyers beware.

I purchased this brine shrimp net. Who are you trying to kid. The brine shrimp pass right through. The holes in the netting are the same size as the holes in all my other fish nets. False Advertizing! Big waist of money. If you are looking for a net for brine shrimp this is NOT it.

I did a lot of research on this it does fit a standard all-glass aquarium. You will need a set of clippers or a dremel to take off the excess "flashing" to make it fit, but with a little buzz, its no problem!

I've owned nothing but All-Glass aquariums for almost 10 years, and in my experience, the plastic hoods are a waste of money. I've owned many, and have been impressed by none. The All-Glass VersaTops are far superior in my opinion.

1.) The deluxe hoods generally come with a single-tube strip light with no reflector, only cheap plastic above the bulb. The twin-tube strips will have a reflector to increase the efficiency of the bulb. Invest in at least a twin tube right away (make sure to get the twin-tube glass tops as well), especially with the deeper tanks. Quality of lighting is much better without having to break the bank with specialized lighting.

2.) The access panel is clumsy and the plastic hinged joints break or crack easily. Every one I've owned has been very noisy when opening/closing. Glass tops offer more visibility and a smoother range of motion (they're quiet and will last longer).

3.) More inconvenient to clean than a glass top. Visibility of water spots/mineral buildup very obvious if you don't maintain them properly. Usually takes a lot of scrubbing to remove the deposits completely.

4.) Oak accent coating on light strip tends to wear off easily.

5.) Hood allows for a greater rate of evaporation. Glass fits snugly into the lip of the aquarium and greatly reduces evaporation; i.e., you don't have to top-off the water frequently.

6.) Cutouts on the rear of the hood are inconvenient and if the outlined pattern is followed, leaves too much room for that occasional fish to escape (nobody wants carpet-critters) and restricts customization for placing equipment. Glass VersaTop has a clear plastic strip for the rear panel which is easy to cut (to your specifications, also helps with evaporation, leaves less room for jumping fish to escape) and is very easily replaced.

In my experience, the hoods are functional, but I've found glass to be far superior in performance, reliability, quality, appearance and maintenance (and I haven't broken one yet).

It fits perfectly, a very well made hood. The only problem is the light. I only wish they had put in a fluorescent light in instead of the sun replicating light. It turns the color tone of the tank green. It may not be a bad thing for some aquarists but, I have a few decorations in the tank that look better with a fluorescent glow light as opposed to a sun replicating light.

I had tried to get a replacement top for my 47 gal column aquarium before from a different vendor. Two shipments later (with all the follow-up having to be done by yours truly) I still had nothing due to broken glass in the mail etc.

Dealing with _this_ company through Amazon was simple and easy. I could track the package, it arrived fine and is exactly what I needed. Everything should be this simple.

Dimensions are nominal so it will fit the standard tank. I prefer this to the original which had the handle attached on the wrong (to me the small one worked best) panel. You will need some care and muscle to insert the glass into the hinge, try inserting on one end first. Remember that the hinge has cutouts for the supporting lip on the tank, put the handle on AFTER you have the glass panels and cutout assembled the way you want it.

My fish tank is an odd size to find just any lid to fit on it, so after doing some research with the company who made my tank I was able to search by product number and found it cheapest through Amazon. After a year and a half my original lid had split at the seam, but that could have happened during a move. Also, when the lid shatters it isn't in as many pieces as a glass one. Clean up was much easier when it hit the ground. (That was due to circumstances not caused by the product).

Simply put, if you want to avoid water problems starting up your Freshwater Aquarium you're better off purchasing Distilled water from the grocery. I've had aquariums for many many years and I recently discovered that my tap water had a PH of 8 and a water hardness of 185ppm. I bought this Water Softner Pillow hoping to get my ppm down to about 80ppm with absolutely no success. The time spent, the purchase price with shipping and handling just isn't worth it. If I had started my new tank with Distilled water, I would have a nicely conditioned aquarium after a month. Instead I bought this Pillow AND I'm still getting no where with my ppm. I understand the chemistry (Pointed out by the Seller) and its complications. If I had started with Distilled water from the beginning I'd be much better off. Afterwards you top off what you lose through evaporation with distilled water and avoid this Water Softner Pillow. That simple.

I have very hard water where I live, which makes it difficult to control my pH. Out of the tap, my GH is 215 ppm and my KH is 6'.

I bought five new 5 gallon buckets, filled them with water and put a pillow in each one. If one pillow treats up to 55 gallons then 5 gallons should be no problem. I covered the buckets and let them sit for 2 days.

When I tested the water from the buckets my GH and KH were unchanged.

I bought the Omnivore Soft Gel packs for my fish since I had some clowns and a dottyback. I squeezed the gel out into the outflow of my filter and it spread out nicely across the tank. As soon as it hit the water the clowns chased the little bits all over gobbling it up as fast as they could catch it. The dottyback ventured far out of its cave and even went half way up the water column chasing the bits. Even the sally lightfoot and hermits became much more active with this in the tank and could be seen scavenging across the live rock and sand for some time after the fish finished eating. The only drawback I found for the gel packs is they packets were not perforated well and I need to use scissors to separate them.

API Freshwater PH Test Kit

This is an easy and cheap way of testing PH. It doesn't need to be calibrated like the electronic ones , just put the water that needs tested in the tube, then a couple drops of the liquid , shake and match the color up on the supplied PH chart.

if your growing plants. then one of these is very handy. i ordered 5. and according to professional growers. ph test kits such as these are very suggested because they are very accurated. although expensive ph meter/ or test pens are also good, they are expensive around 80 and you can use it for a certain amount of times then you have to calibrate it again to increase the potency in accuracy. I avoid doing that because a good digital ph is like 80+ and plus the calibration to calibrate it back to default is extra. so i purchased 5 of these to get free shipping and got it. and each pack works for 250 times or 250 tests. so this is definitely a good deal to get. before you order make sure you find out the ph level you need to achieve for either your plants or fish tanks. instructions seems tricky at first but look at the same card. fill water till line. 3 drops. shake it up. and match colors.

My fish have eaten these pond flakes for years and do extremely well on them. I live in Nebraska where the winters are very cold. My goldfish and koi stay in their pond all winter with a heater in the pond to keep an open hole in the water. I do not feed them during the coldest times as they are not very active. I buy a lot of this product for my large pond. The price is great compared to local outlets but you do have to by a large number of canisters ( 11 = $50 + dollars ) to get free shipping. I don't know what's up with some of the negative reviews, but I absolutely love this substrate! There's better ones our there, such as ADA Amazonia, but they're also much more expensive. With Floramax, IMO, you get a quality substrate which has a high CEC (cationic exchange capacity) which enables this substrate to absorb nutrients from the water (when you dose with ferts, in addition to when your fish poop) and to time release it to the root system of your plants. Plus there's 'some' trace elements already in this substrate (which is essentially a form of lava rock. Floramax and Eco-Complete are essentially the same product. Only real difference is that Eco-Complete comes with that bacteria water which makes the bag heavier, so in essence, you get more substrate by buying floramax because the weight accurately indicates how much substrate you're getting. If you want to really supercharge this substrate, get some Seachem Flourish root tabs and strategically embed them throughout the substrate, depending on how you plan to plant your tank.

Anyway, I totally gutted out my old gravel substrate and replaced it with this. I rinsed the Floramax thoroughly before adding it in. I planted a bunch of stem plants, dwarf hair grass, vals, and hygros and got some great results. Of course I added a co2 injection system, albeit DIY, and dose ferts with my excellent lighting. Look up one of my videos on youtube by searching "Nano Cube 12g FW Planted Update 2012" and you'll see what I mean. Also, I didn't experience any cloudiness. I just followed the instructions and after adding in the substrate and filling my tank with water, I used the enclosed packet of bio-magnet to help remove the fine particles that can be suspended in the water to cause cloudiness.

Hope this helps... I'm convinced this is a good substrate for the value!

I bought this substrate about 3 months ago knowing nothing about it. I had never used a plant substrate before and since it said minimal rinsing may be needed all I did was dump the whole bag in a bucket, added some water, and dumped out the slightly cloudy water. Added it to my tank, filled the tank slowly and turned on my filter. I will admit it was really cloudy...but only for about 45 minutes. I let it sit over night and then added plants and deco.

So far I have not had any problems with it. I have a peacock eel that likes to burrow and it doesn't stir up any "residue" or make the water cloudy.

I'll be buying another few bags off Amazon in the next few week for a new tank.

My advice, if it clouds your water just be patient and let the filter clear it up. A lot of people want it perfectly clear right off the bat so they can add fish and get that going, just relax and let it do its thing.

I bought FloraMax from my local Petsmart, I wanted to set up a 10-gal shrimp aquarium with live plants, using a black plant-growing substrate, and this was the only stuff they had on the shelves that was the right color. I tried to wash it as thoroughly as I could before putting it into the aquarium, but even with pouring bucketfulls of black murky water down the bathroom sink when washing off the substrate, my aquarium still was dark and cloudy for a day before it settled down. Okay, that's kind of expected, so I didn't mind it too much.

After putting the shrimps into the aquarium, I later decided this wasn't a good substrate for a nano shrimp tank (gravel was too big--the gravel pellets were almost as big as they were) and I had a hard time keeping the plants in the gravel, it was ultra hard to plant them because of the large size and light weight of the gravel bits. I emptied out all the shrimps/snails and then took out all the substrate. Immediately the water turned back into a big black murky mess as soon as I started to grab handfuls of the stuff out. I ended up baking all the substrate in the oven to dry it so I could put it into storage, and was astonished by the amount of silt that was still there, even after everything I had done. Discovered that the large-sized pieces of substrate just crumble into smaller pieces if you crush it between your fingers, no wonder I couldn't get the stuff clean.

A better product is Eco-Complete Plant Substrate, put that in my 29-gal a few months ago and couldn't be happier with the way it turned out, no washing required, looks great, and the plants are doing well. Buy it instead of the FloraMax.

*warning: newb w/ aquarium and plants...read following comments accordingly*

Reworked my 3 gallon betta tank today by removing Oscar, all live plants, decorations, and white gravel (the hell was I thinking?) and replacing it with the Floramax substrate. No....I didn't rinse it first. Yes it was very, very dirty/cloudy (couldn't see bottom) but I expected this. I added substrate, plants, then water mixed with the clarifying agent and turned on my bio-sponge filter. It took a total of about 45 minutes of filtration on high to attain a damn near crystal clear tank. Once I checked the temperature and water parameters, I gently added Oscar and his two pet Oto algae eaters. Oscar has been buzzing about, as much as a betta will, checking out his tank and seems relatively content. The two otos have darted around and settled into their manic cleaning mode.

I'll edit this in a few days just to make sure everything shakes out well. So far, very good.

I personally never used the separator to separate 2 birthing fish, as the space is truly confining even for a small live bearing fish.

Instead what I did was place the breeding trap in a ten gallon tank (with no fish in it). Then I put several females in the breeding trap that were about to give birth (without any separators). So then, when the fry was born, they would fall out of the trap through the bottom slits and into the rest of the ten gallon.

The mothers were then removed and put back into their larger original aquarium.

The fry are thriving in the ten gallon and growing larger everyday.

For the price this is a great breeding trap.

The parts in plastic float and get out of place. Fry goes trough holes. Not easy to manage when trying to fix to the border. But many Fry survive.

Found this stuff at PetCo and gave it a try, I love it. It smells horrible, but it works. I have 5 aquariums from 150g to 10g, had no problems at all. I bought niteout originally but Special Blend alone has worked for me. Never had any water problems. I recommend this over all other bacteria supplements. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

This product does have a bad smell at first that dissipates quickly. Hydrogen Sulfide (the source of that rotten egg smell) induces a state of "hibernation" so the bacteria survive longer. It is added as a type of preservative if you will. I crack the top, measure it out, quickly re-cap the bottle and then toss my dose in the tank. The smell lingers in the room for just a bit but it doesn't make your tank water stink. Once the process of opening the bottle and kicking up that smell is over and airs out I don't have any smell sticking around. My ammonia and nitrites are both at 0ppm with nitrates 30ppm. For the first time in 5 years my plants are growing instead of keeling over on me. I haven't been using it long, but I'm really glad I found it. Smell aside :)

i have had this wall mounted aquarium for about 3 years now and i still love it as much as the day i saw it online! you must know that the dimensions given are totally accurate and i say that because it is very narrow width-wise. i mean, your hand will get stuff in there trying to clean it if they're too big. so don't expect an aquarium with a lot of depth, and be mindful while trying to dress it up with decor, certain rock pieces will NOT fit. but with the right pieces and beautiful fish, you have yourself one amazing looking wall piece :). enjoy!

The first (returned), and second one arrived damaged. I attribute this too poor packaging. It's an acrylic tank encased in MDF (medium density fiberboard). First step was to remove damaged hinged door on bottom of frame, both tanks arrived the same way. Second step was too seal all exposed fiberboard (MDF and water don't mix). Third step was to purchase all the extra items needed too make tank work. I replaced the cheesey filter and under the counter light fixture that were supplied with an under gravel filter and dual light fixture. You will also need gravel, heater, and a thermometer. If you like the bubbles in the tank shown in the picture you will also need a pump and air stoned. I recommend the pump as it will help oxygenate the water. I have had the tank set up for about 8 months now and the veneer on the frame has a few bubbles where water has come in contact with the MDF that I wasn't able too seal. I wouldn't recommend this tank for the newcomer. I gave it 3 stars because I have received alot of good comments on how it looks.

For this price it is alright. Assembly was easy, but it's a little wobbly. Once you put the fish tank on and fill that up it is a little bit sturdier, but still has some movement. (not enough to where you think the tank will topple over, just a tiny sway if you push on it) For this price I'd say it is a winner!

This stand is everything I could have hoped for, it looks great, very stable, and cheap :D.

I only gave it a 4 though because it does scratch easily.

THIS IS A TWO PIECED HOOD WITH AN ELECTRICAL LIGHT THAT SITS ON TOP. IT DOESN'T SEEM SAFE AND IF IT'S NOT PLACED PROPERLY IT WILL FALL. I WOULDN'T SUGGEST THIS FOR YOUR AQUARIUM NEEDS.

Works ok but took company over seas over a month to get them here. My pump could have blown up by then. Luckily it didnt. A warning about SLOOOWWW shipments should be posted on all items that take that long to recieve.
