this filter stopped working after the first week i installed it! Wish i could return it but i already thru the original box out and will not get credit for it so be aware!

I have this in a 10 gallon (i think) round tank with 3 fish in it and it does well. I have owned the filter for 2 months and during the first month I may have fed the fish too often because I used 3 filters within the month. I use it with the Fluval U1 Underwater Filter After figuring out a feeding schedule I only had to use 2 filters.

I have high ammonia levels and I need to keep track of them. The only thing I have an issue with is that at the end of the test strip, there are 3 little squares to look at the colors you are comparing. The very bottom one is the only one that changes colors and it makes me wonder why there are those other 2 squares.

Seaclone 100 Protein Skimmer

I bought this skimmer to save some money, as many others have. I was prepared for the fact that I might have to modify it to get it to perform well but I haven't had to do so at all. I researched how a skimmer is supposed to perform, including watching videos of what skimmate should look like and this skimmer is perfoming adequately. I have to empty it pretty much every other day. The skimmate is dark and thick and some particulate matter is removed. The bubbles I get are tiny and plentiful and seem to be doing a good job.

Is it the best? No, it certainly isn't. Is it sufficient? Yes, absolutely. It is working very well in my tank. I use it in sump, for what its worth.

My tank is 36 gallons with a 10 gallon sump. I have 2 clowns, a coral beauty, yellow tail damsel and scooter dragonette along with the usual clean up crews. There is about 70 lbs of live rock.

Marineland Single Bright LED Lighting System

I have a number of freshwater planted 10 gallon tanks. I own both the Marineland Single Bright and the Double Bright models. While the double bright is in fact double the brightness, they are narrowly concentrated and the plant growth is affected by the placement of the plants directly below the LEDs. This is also a huge problem if you have any floating plants blocking certain LEDs from reaching the light below.

While a bit less bright, the Single Bright evenly covers the tank with behavior similar to a single T8 light. The plant growth for low light plants such as Java Moss and Java Fern can be kept without worrying about algae problems, especially if you "tape to block" the blue LEDs since there is not a separate switch to turn just the blue LEDs off. Because of the number of LEDs present, the floating plants or placement of the plants are much more forgiving than the Double Bright model.

While the light works fine on black substrate, my recommendation is to go with natural or "whiter" substrate to allow the light reflections to help spread the coverage.

Lastly, the power adapter is detachable at the cord that plugs in right next to the on/off switch. This is very convenient since the light can be quickly unplugged and moved out of the way. The Double Bright has the cord permanently attached, so moving the light is not as easy.

Strongly recommended for anyone looking to lower the cost of electricity.

I have tested the following plants in a 10 gallon tank:

Ludwgia Repens X: This plant turns green to red to indicate light intensity. Under a single T8 6500k bulb, the plants' bottom is usually green while top half of the leaves turn bronze to red. Under this LED light, the red turned to green and maintained slow growth. Therefore, I know that this light provides lower "PAR" and spectrum not as ideal as a single T8 bulb.

Amazon Sword: Don't bother under this light. Mine melted.

Java Fern: Stayed the same size with little to no new growth.

Java Moss: Continued to grow. Perfect for the low LED light.

Dwarf Sag: Don't bother.

Hornwort: Floating hornwort melted slowly melted away.

Pennywort: Leaves continued to grow, but looked very soft bright green.

Duckweed: Well, they are duckweed. They grew.

So, there you have it. Should give you a good reason to stay with T8 bulbs or take chances with this LED light. Looks nice to human eyes, but doesn't translate to plant growth.

This has to be one of the best purchases I've made for my poor fish. Despite some of the reviews, this lit up my tank very nicely. I have a 35-gallon hexagonal tank. I was concerned that the light wouldn't fit on such an odd shape. I took a chance on it because the opening is 17" across and the light looked like the bars would pull out to accommodate the size of the edge lip, which was about 22". It did and it fits perfectly. The entire tank is illuminated evenly and much more pleasant than my old fluorescent light. I actually don't have a negative. The opening of my tank is about 1" wider than the light itself, so it doesn't cover the hole entirely, but there is only 1/2" open on the front and back, so the cat still can't get in. As a matter of fact, the cat used to be able to push off the fluorescent light because it was so big. Since this one is flat, sits right on top of the tank and is held on by the extendable bars, the cat can't move it off. Again, one of the best purchases I've ever made for the fish.

Love this light. Brighter than a single fluorescent bulb. Lights my 75 gallon tank very well. The lunar light (blue) is great and along with maintaining the peacefulness for my fish, it looks great too. I don't know that this light would be adequate for plant life as I have no live plants in my tank, but it is great for lighting the tank to see the fish. My tank is 48" long, which is why I went with the 48"-60" light, that way the tank is evenly lit. Great value for the money. Easy to use. No ballast, which is a great option compared to fluorescent lighting.

Either defective or poor quality, this air pump did not pump air at all... even after futzing with the control. Went back to the Tetra pump which still works fine. I recommend the Tetra which has been working well for over 3 years.

I like this pump. I've had it for some time now. I seems to be holding up well and it is pretty quiet for output. I have it driving one large 4" air stone at about 20" depth. It puts out a nice wall of bubbles. I like that it is adjustable too. I have used that feature too. Better than other cheap diaphram pumps I've used. Reminds me of the 80s "SUPRA" of old.

Universal Rocks 24-Inch by 16-Inch Ledge Aquarium/Reptile Rigid Foam Background

I have a 20 gallon with juvenile cichlids and after surfing the web, I stumbled onto Universal Rocks' website, found out Amazon sells their products and quickly ordered the ledge 3D background. I've made a custom 3D background with Plexiglas, slate rocks and silicone sealant and it took so much time and money that I wish I stumbled into this item sooner. The ledge background is great and my cichlids love it cause of the overhang and hiding spots the ledges create. Also, it looks real! The company uses real crushed rocks to make their background and rooted plants can supposedly grow on them.

To install I did not have to cut the background to fit my tank. I have a normal 24"x16"x12" 20 gallon tank. I simply moved my fish to a fishbowl, took out 75% of the water, tilted the tank forward to move the sand and water out of the way, had a friend put the background in place, tilted the fish tank upright, moved the sand to push against the bottom of the background to the back, clipped the top with the 3 clips it came, with filled the tank back up with water and that was it. It was a very easy install. I highly recommend this product for anyone who wants to recreate a more natural looking aquarium.

Maybe I just got the proverbial 1 rotten apple out of 100 in the barrel......

Nova Extreme T5 X2 for Freshwater 24Inch

I have one of these for my 20 gallon and my 55 gallon tanks.... they are AWESOME.

You cannot beat the value of this light. Many companies will sell the same thing for hundreds more. If you're on a budget, this is the thing.

The light fixture comes in different options. Be sure to match it to your needs. I'm freshwater, so no actinic. Mine has the grow light (pinkish), and the full spectrum (white/bluish). The color temperature etc. of this fixture is comparable to higher end setups, for much cheaper. I've been running the 55 gallon setup since I bought these, same with the 20 and haven't replaced a bulb once.

The power drain is minimal if you have em on a timer, and the output is great. There are, of course, better lights, but for the money, this is good for budget minded folks like me.

I have one of these in my entry way. It is tall really tall my children love to set on the floor and look into the tank. Unit comes with plenty of substrate. The lighting is a little small a single bulb it workes but no way your growing a plant. The supplied hang on filter in my opinion is ok for a wile but I'd buy a better one. Under gravel filter with lift tube well it does the best it can. U need a heater 150w workes fine. The PROBLEM with this tank is there is no way to reach the bottom. I purchased a extra long reptile grabber so I can move/remove the decor. And using a gravel vac is tricky to say least I use a long piece of small pvc pipe with the hose attached to it there is no easy way to clean the bottom of the tank. Over all its a great looking tank and is impressive it look at bit hard to clean but o well.

This replaced the carbon media on my Aquaclear Filter. I'm a big fan mechanical filter media and combining them. Right now my AquaClear filter has a Sponge, two sheets cut to fit of this polyfyber and the ceramic bio media. I also cut this to size and use them in my lfival Chi Filter instead of the stock fluvan pads. All my tanks are planted, thats why O dont use carbon media except on special circumstances when they arise.

This is a really nice filtration media and does the job well. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because having a saltwater tank, it really won't last too long. You can try to rinse it to clean but after 2 washes it becomes very weak. For the price and how many uses I'm getting out of it, it's definitely worth every penny.

Oceanic 82105 BioCube Original Replacement Filter Cartridges, 2-Pack

Not much to say it's a filter and it's an OEM part. The downside to the Biocube seems to be the filter. Many complain that it gets too dirty quickly and that is somewhat true. Back in the late 60's I used a corner filter with floss and charcoal. Nobody back then replaced the materials the just rinsed them off and back in it went. now a days it's all disposable and don't get me wrong once a month I replace mine but twice a week I rinsed it out and it's all good.

My aquarium eats one of these about every ten days. You can rinse/shake it out in a sink or bowl full of water drained from the aquarium but the cleaned filter will only last 3-4 days before clogging again. Couple of things to be aware of...a large part of your aquariums ability to remove waste revolves around beneficial bacteria growing in your filter. When you take the filter out, you remove a lot of organic waste from the ecosystem but you may also remove a lot of the bacteria that are clinging to the filter.

As such, when replacing the filter do not clean any other part of the filter assembly. Do that a week after changing the filter.

I also do keep the last "full" filter and after rinsing in drained water I tuck it on top of the filter mechanism under the door so it stays damp. When I do a water change I use that filter for a few hours after the change to catch all the junk that gets knocked loose in the water, then toss it and use a new one.

I've found that peeling a layer of the gauze medium back once it is clogged greatly extends the useful life.

This sand is a beautiful white color, but is VERY FINE. If you want that, then this is great. It does look beautiful once it settles, and is great for sand sifting animals.

this "sand" is so fine that it continually clouds up your tank... washed it off and put it in tank, instantly the tank is cloudy. next morning, a lot better, but still a little dirty/cloudy to it. stirred it up, emptied the cloudy water out of 3/4 of the 55 gallon tank, filled with clear water and still does the same time... like I said, I think the sand is just so fine that it floats around in the water and gives it a cloudy appearance.

When I ordered sand, I was expecting there to be no water or moisture involved. But behold a mid-size bag full of sand and water. It is a little misleading because it does state 20 pounds (lbs), however I feel part of it is the water. I let the sand dry out for a week and then used the sand to fill up my sandbags for photography. If I had kids, this sound would be fun to play with and you can basically make sand castle or whatever you imagination may bring. However, this fine grade, smooth, soft to touch sand is great for weights, but will never buy again.

This product works ok. It does not work well if you have a tank with rounded corners. This tool is best used for fish tanks with perfectly flat surfaces. Replacement blades are difficult to calibrate. Once a replacement blade is installed it might be a fraction too far back to touch the glass.

It worked well on my glass tank, but when I upgraded to a 90 gallon acrylic I bought the new blades for acrylic. After a quick clean I noticed scratches ALL over my BRAND NEW tank. It's more than likely headed for the garbage can.

Tetra Usa ATS77877 Whisper Repair Kit for 20 and 40 Air Pump

I have two air pumps on my tank, and both started making this really annoying rattling noise about the same time. I figured oh well, time to drop another $40 and just get new pumps. Not so fast -these new diaphragms were easy to install, and the pumps haven't started making that noise since. In fact, I think they're quieter than when I originally bought them!
