I have this for my hermit crabs. The thermometer would never read over 68 degrees no matter what I did. I bought an extra heater and raised my house temp with no improvement. The tank felt warmer than my house temp so I bought a different thermometer. It registered 78 degrees on one side of the tank and 71 on the other! This thermometer is VERY inaccurate! Do not buy it! The hydrometer seems to work, but I'll be replacing that portion too just in case!

Poor quality thermometer and humidity gauge. What do you expect for the price? I expect it to at least be close to accurate. I have a digital for about a dollar more that works great. This one is hard to see and inaccurate.

Great concept having a thermometer and humidity gauge in one compact unit. Well made and it works as it says it should! The gauge is small enough not to interfere with the crab habitat. Having the color coding to warn you of too low, normal, or too high conditions is brilliant. Easy enough for my 8 year old to determine the weather conditions in the tank.

These are inexpensive but work well -for awhile anyway. This is the second one I have bought and each time one of the gauges quits working after a couple of months. Secures well to the glass, and the colors on the thermometer make it easy to read at a quick glance.

Aquatop NP-302 Aquarium Submersible Pump

Wonderful little pump with a lot of power for its size. I bought to replace the air pump that came with my "HB-210: Finnex External HOB Refugium / Breeder Box + Air Pump" and this worked great. I have this pumping into the refuge and I have to turn it down slightly as if I turn it up full it tends to leak over the edge and into the tank from the side rather than the correct exit but that is also as I have about 10 lbs of live sand and rock rubble as well as each chamber is full of macro algae. I feel it had made a great little refuge on my 20 gallon nano tank and works superb for us as we cannot put a sump on this tank. One down side is sometimes the suction cups come off the tank but that could either be something I have in the tank or I have red slime algae blooms sometimes that could be causing this. Also very easy to clean, has worked perfect for about 2.5 months now with being run 24/7.

I use these pumps outside in the bird bath's and they work great. I keep a couple on hand in case something does happen to the pumps.

Dimensions are nominal so it will fit the standard tank. I prefer this to the original which had the handle attached on the wrong (to me the small one worked best) panel. You will need some care and muscle to insert the glass into the hinge, try inserting on one end first. Remember that the hinge has cutouts for the supporting lip on the tank, put the handle on AFTER you have the glass panels and cutout assembled the way you want it.

My fish tank is an odd size to find just any lid to fit on it, so after doing some research with the company who made my tank I was able to search by product number and found it cheapest through Amazon. After a year and a half my original lid had split at the seam, but that could have happened during a move. Also, when the lid shatters it isn't in as many pieces as a glass one. Clean up was much easier when it hit the ground. (That was due to circumstances not caused by the product).

Tank Divider - 10 gallon

I used this to divide my snail and betta fish so I could treat another tank. It did a really good job. Used in a 5 gal. and a 10 gal. tank.

Hagen Nutrafin Nitrate 0.0 to 110.0 Mg/L for Fresh and Saltwater, 80-Tests

I have used this test kit several times to monitor Nitrate in aquariums. It is the one kit that has been thoroughly consistent and accurate. You must use good light though when reading the results and follow the directions to the letter, that is important. I have found that viewing the test bottle against the card in direct sunlight helps to match the result to the closest PPM on the card. It can be a little confusing as the other reviewer claimed, but you are aiming for low readings to begin with and this brand is more accurate than the other cheaper one for Nitrate. And at this price compared to getting it at a chain pet store or LFS it is a great deal!

Long story short...

The color from the test tube can not accurately be placed at any one point on the color chart that is provided. Using a computer to analyze the colors, the hue of my test tube is the same as the hue of the 20 mg/L color on the chart, but the saturation is the closest to the saturation of the 50 mg/L color on the chart, and the "value" is actually below the entire chart (it would correspond to 0.89 mg/L). I don't believe there is any way a human or computer can tell where, on the provided chart, the color of the test tube should fall. No matter how I tried to evaluate the colors (naked eye, computer-evaluated red/green/blue or hue/saturation/value), I was not able to come up with a value for my nitrate level. To me this kit was a complete waste of money, although I did have fun trying (unsuccessfully) to find a way to use their inadequate chart to figure out the nitrate level.

Long story long...

I test color vision every day and I have great color vision. I also got the opinion of other people and everyone agreed that the color of the test tube, before and after a 50% water change (to make sure I wasn't just off the chart), could not be placed anywhere in the provided chart. I read and re-read the instructions and followed it as best I could, although holding the last (of 3) bottles at a "45 degree angle" causes drops to fall out at a very fast rate and sometimes it is hard to allow only three drops into the test tube (this is not a plastic squeeze bottle, but a glass bottle that you must tilt "at 45 degrees" to allow the solution to drip out after shaking for 30 seconds). Personally, I think holding it at 30 or 20 degrees is much easier, but I'm not sure if that changes the size of the drops or not, so I just do what the directions say and throw everything out if more than 3 drops get into the test tube.

Before I did a water change, the vivid violet color of the test tube was much different than any of the desaturated colors on the card, which ranged from light pink to dark purple/maroon. I did a 50% water change, thinking that maybe I was just off the chart, and the color of the test tube became more pale, but still did not match anything on the chart. I asked other people and they also had no idea where on the chart my test tube was. There is a limit on what the human eye can do in terms of color and I thought I would take human judgement out of the equation.

I got the best lighting I could difficult because this cylindrical test tube focuses light into a bright vertical beam behind it leaving dark areas near the edges and a much brighter color near the center of the tube when you hold it in front of the white area on the chart. Finally, I got it situated so the color was mostly uniform when looking through the test tube. I then took a digital photo of the test tube held against the white area on the color chart and analyzed it on my computer. There are many ways to represent colors. I used HSV (hue, saturation, value) because the colors on the chart appeared desaturated compared to my more vibrant test tube and I was hoping I could remove that from the equation (also RGB did not provide values that consistently increased or decreased going up or down the chart, where HSV did). I used OpenOffice spreadsheet to create regression equations to correlate each parameter (hue, saturation and value) with nitrate concentration based on the colors provided on the chart. The absolute values of the coefficients of determination were 0.987, 0.913 and 0.996. For those who don't know, if the coefficient of determination (R2) is close to 1, then your equation is very accurate and if it is close to 0 then it is not accurate at all. This means that, in the chart provided with this kit, the hue, saturation and value all change predictably when nitrate concentration changes and you can come up with mathematical formulas that you can plug the values from either H, S or V into and it will give you the nitrate concentration. So, if I record the hue reading from one of the colors on the chart and plug that into the hue formula, it will give me the nitrate concentration that is listed next to that color. This is also the case for saturation and "value." No matter which of the three I use, I always get very close to the numbers listed on the chart. For example, if I analyze the color that is supposed to indicate 20 mg/L on the chart, plugging the hue into the hue equation gives me 18.3 mg/L, saturation gives me 17 and value gives me 20.7 (all pretty close to the correct nitrate concentration of 20).

Now, if the colors on this chart actually correlated with the possible colors in the test tube, you should also be able to take the hue, saturation or value from the color of the test tube and with the same formulas, come up with the nitrate concentration in the test tube. All three values should give you roughly the same nitrate concentration. So I analyzed the color from my test tube. Using the "value" of my test tube, my nitrates would be 0.89 mg/L. If I use the Hue, my nitrates are estimated at 21.2 mg/L (much higher) and if I use "saturation," my nitrates are 45 mg/L (more than twice what I got from "Hue" and 50 times as high as what I got from "value"). So, using the formulas I derived from the provided chart, the color of my test tube indicates that my nitrates are 1, 20 and 45 depending on what component of the color I use. These numbers are completely different from one another and show that the color of my test tube really wasn't anywhere in the spectrum of colors provided on the chart.

No wonder I couldn't look at the color and see where it fit on the chart. The hue of my test tube was the same as the hue on the chart that indicates 20 mg/L, the saturation of my test tube was closest to the saturation on the chart that indicates 50 mg/L and the value of my test tube was actually off the chart low (lower than the value of the 5 mg/L color on the chart). I'm not sure if I just got a bad test kit or if this will be the same for all the kits, but I think I have shown that there is no way to use the color of the test tube and the colors on the provided chart to come up with a nitrate level. I recommend looking for another nitrate test kit.

Eheim Aquastyle Nano Aquarium 6 Gallon 24 Liter Complete Kit - Eheim AEH6402370

What a great aquarium. I searched everywhere and looked at so many my head was spinning. Finally decided on the Nano. Comes with everything you need to get started but the fish, plants and gravel.

Perfect choice. Small footprint, filter works very well and is EZ to clean. Light height and placement is adjustable (also comes off easily when cleaning the tank). And the bonus ... the fish look a little magnified on the corners due to the curved glass.

I have the 6 gal. If I had to do it again I would go for the 9 gal. Not very much larger (maybe 1" wider, higher), and would hold more fish & plants.

Filters and media tough to find. Do a Google search. Wound up finding it at BBB online, not in store.

One negative: Comes with a glass top (yea). It rests on top BUT it comes with little plastic grippers that fall off fast, often, and get lost quick. I put tiny pieces of Velcro on each corner. Doesn't get near the fish (safe), works like a charm and not very visible.

If space is limited, you are OK with 5-6 fish and you want a standout aquarium this is a winner.

Natural gravel (small). A few small fun-shaped rocks I found in the garden (boil them first), and one big hollow black rock with holes for fish to swim in & out.

Watch out for rogue snails. I use a net to put fish in my tank, avoiding putting the store water in (don't want snail eggs again).

This thermometer is excellent. It gives the correct temperature and its small so it doesnt take up too much space in the aquarium tank. I own a turtle, and when he is swimming he scrapes the sides of the tank. Sometimes he bumps into the thermometer, and it falls down. So that is why i didnt give this 5 stars because the suction cup isnt too strong.

Bought this along with a heater for my 5 gallon frog tank. The thermometer got here over a week after the heater came, even though i ordered at the same time. And now I am not sure it's working. I purchased one of these to try with my strip temperature gauges on my 90 gallon saltwater reef system. Thankfully it was a cheap mistake.

The thermometer doesn't like to stick to the glass (which I cleaned very carefully to make sure there were no lingering algae deposits) and is easily knocked off by invertebrates and other creatures in your tank. Then you have to fish it out and stick it back up on the glass again.

It reads poorly compared to most strips; I compared it with them side by side to see if one was easier to read than the other. It also reads slower than strip thermometers (I tested it in an empty quarantine tank by raising the internal water temperature and the outside temperature strip registered the change faster).

I left it in the quarantine tank with normal reef salinity and gravity for a week and found it clouded. This is concerning if you are keeping coral as it could be leaking or subject to breaking in the tank. Not to be dissuaded that it might be one bad thermometer I purchased another and it suffered the same fate within the same time frame (it lasted a whole day longer).

I'm giving this a two star review because it may work in fresh water and be effective there but I wouldn't suggest it for a saltwater system. If you don't like thermometer strips you might as well spend the money on an expensive electronic reader that will also run a few of your tests for you.

I brought my 2 mice home today and when they started using the sipper bottle, I noticed them struggling with it a bit. So I tapped on the sipper tip a few times with my finger and no water was coming out. I kept doing it, and still no water came out. I noticed that a bubble had formed inside just above the tube and was not floating to the top, not allowing any water to go down the tube. I had to flick it a bit to get the bubble out, but as soon as they started using it again another bubble would form no water would come out.I've now had to place a small dish of water inside their cage to keep them hydrated. This is very frustrating and its starting to look like I'll have to buy another sipper bottle, hopefully one that works.

These don't take up so much room in the tank. I can change the lid to a different spout if I want to.

We moved our little hamster to an aquarium tank because she wanted to chew the wire cage and keep us up all night. So we bought this water bottle for her tank. It attached easily to the inside of the tank, although I think I should have put it up higher then what the directions said. She had trouble at first using it, because it's not at an angle but straight up & down. She had to lean her head to the side and kind of hold on to it to get any water out. It seemed to work okay, but sometimes dripped. But then one night she used it to climb out and escape (we have a reptile screen ontop) so now we place a heavy painted rock on top. About a week later she chewed a hole the size of a dime in the water bottle! And yes she has lots of chew toys. So now we have a tiny water dish in her cage, but she often gets her bedding in that. So I'm again on the search for a aquarium water bottle, hopefully glass.

Filter-Max III Prefilter

We have breeding albino catfish in a 15 gallon show tank. This works perfect to save the tiny babies from being sucked up the filter. It also saves the frequent Whisper Biobag filters changes. I wish we knew about this many years ago!

As far as its size. It is large-about 4" long and nearly 2" diameter. You can install it vertically or horizontally, which is convenient. It's easy to put on intake tube with several adaptor connections. I planted a few artificial plants around to hide the filter. So far so good!

I bought this to keep baby guppies and cherry shrimp from getting sucked up into the uptake of a fairly powerful canister filter. It has worked very well so far, but it is not quite perfect.

I wish the adapter did not have two 90 degree bends in it. This is not great for fluid dynamics, and it also just seems unnecessary why can't you just put the sponge straight on the tube?

Another problem with the adapter is that it leaves small holes around the edge of where the adapter covers the center of the sponge. A wee baby guppy or a baby shrimp could get sucked up in those holes. It would be nice if it fit better.

I have had to rub the sides of the sponge once in a while to loosen up the debris and let the water pass better. Its not a big deal, and not a flaw in the sponge, but something to be aware of. You dont want to make your filter pump work any harder than it has to.

Overall, its a perfectly good pre-filter, and I am planning on buying another one soon.

This pre-filter is a must if you raise fry or shrimp. I use them on a Aquaclear 70 and they do excellent both as a pre-filter and a guard to keep the shrimp from becoming pate. My only fuss is that the other model has a very fine sponge that failed after a couple of months. This one, with the course sponge, is great.

The thermometer works great and its in Celcius and Farenheight connected by a nylon string to find it easily. I would have given it 5 stars had the glass window that protects the mercury glass behind it wasn't broken on delivery... it works fine without the protective cover and as its used for fish without abuse worry that the mercury tube would break decided to just use it as I was in a pinch to maintain proper temperatures. Other than that, it is a good product.

I bought this about a year ago so my stinkpot turtle could get out to dry his shell. Like others have said, it is not that aesthetically pleasing, but it did the job. After a few months, the lower suction cups stopped sucking to the glass, and it grew algae very easily. Even after scrubbing, the algae came back soon. Then my turtle chomped it upgross! I hope he doesn't get sick! This time I will pay more to get a higher quality product.

I resisted these things for years because I prefered to build natural platforms out of rocks, but that gets tricky if you want to raise the water level above 6 inches. What I love about this dock is that it gives my turt a nice big surface to climb on and bask, but he still has all that swimming room underneath. I just hope that he won't start chomping away at it, as some turtles have done. The suction cups work great and really hold the dock firmly in place. Great price too! I resisted buying it when the retail shops all had it for $20, but at under $10 it was worth a gamble.

I have had two sliders since they were babies and I was only able to use the zoo med turtle dock for about 2-3 months due to several issues. At first the dock was okay... it wasn't totally aesthetically pleasing but it did the trick. My turtles would use it often to bask without any problems. After about the first month or so the suction cups were not sticking very well to the point where they no longer stick to the bottom portion which is submersed in the water. As the turtles got bigger they would get stuck behind the bottom plastic bar, and would really have to struggle to free themselves...they never drown but this crossed my mind as a possible hazard. The dock also started to grow algae and when I tried to clean and scrub it off the paint scrubbed off with it. These are just minor problems considering once my turtles grew to be 3 inches in length they began to actually bite the dock to the point where they were able to get actual huge chunks out of it and consume it. I looked this up online and it is a very common problem with foam docks. It is very unhealthy for them to consume foam or plastic. Overall it is a cheap dock and you get what you pay for. I recommend spending the extra money upfront to get something nicer and safer(and not made of foam).

I bought one of these docks for my turtle a really long time ago and it lasted for 5+ years. Then it just seemed too slimy so i decided to throw it out and get my turtle a fresh one. As soon as I opened the box i could tell that the quality was so much cheaper than the original one I had. The raft itself started flaking off as soon as i touched it. At the same time it felt super greasy. I didnt really want to expose my turtle to anything that would flake off into the water so i tried rinsing it off and pretty much got no where. The plastic bars that attach to the suction cups seemed like the crappiest plastic I've ever seen or touched. The original one was much sturdier. The suction cups were separated in the packaging and required some assembly prior to use. As I was putting the suction cups onto the plastic bars I kept wondering how long this dock would last b/c the quality seemed so terrible. The suction cups were very difficult to attach and within a few seconds the plastic bar snapped into two pieces. So annoying. I can't believe this company would lower the quality of this item so much since 5 years ago. Too bad.

I gave this thing the benefit of the doubt after reading some of the reviews on here, like how the turtles will start chowing down on the dock. My turtles are extreme wimps. They won't even eat the tiny goldfishes that I had in the tank. This brings me to exactly how horrible this dock is. I don't know if they did something new or found a new way to make this thing, but the minute I took it out of the box, I felt this weird oil and it was extremely sandy, like the styrofoam was disintegrating in my hand. Maybe it was just extra parts of it. I can't tell. The dock was also very dark, almost black, with spots of green, I guess to look like algae or grass or something, but it wasn't pretty. It didn't look like the picture on the box at all! I thought I had received someone's used one until I did a little research. Anyways, back to oil. I proceeded to clean the dock, with a very mild dish washing detergent so it'll cut through the oil and hopefully wash it away. After, I soaked the dock in clean water for 2 days, TWO DAYS, changing water twice a day to make sure any traces of detergent would be gone. On the second day, there was still oil coming out of the dock, but it was very little. To the point where I had to look for it so again, gave it benefit of the doubt, put it into my tank. My turtles loved it. They immediately started playing on it, but the goldfishes that I had in the tank all died, within 30 minutes. They've been in the tank with my turtles for almost 2 weeks now!! They've literally became friends with my turtles!! I immediately pulled out my turtles. My turtles are okay, but the oil or whatever the dock was emitting CANNOT be good for any sea creatures. I don't recommend this product at all!

After reading the bad review, I was a little reluctant to order, but the product I received was great (it looks like Amazon is using a new vendor?) Perhaps the other review got a bad/old batch, but my fish love these pellets. It may seem like a no brainer, but I've seen a lot of people complain about the size of the pellets...they are as advertised...before ordering be sure to break out your metric ruler so that you are aware of just how small 2MM is.

These are real good food for my african cichlids, they all love it. The size does not seem to be a big problem at least for my fishes but I do use 2 different sizes (1mm, 2mm) mixed together as my fishes vary from 2" to 8".

My African cichlids(30 or more) are 6+ inches. They have been fed with New Life Spectrum Cichlid Formula 1mm for years. After seeing them worked hard to pick up small 1mm pellets and NLS came out with 2mm size, I wanted to it a try. Big mistake! These 2mm pellets are hard like rocks and my fish ate a few because they were hungry but ignored most of them. What a waste! After trying these 2mm for couple months, I had to go back to 1mm pellets. I gave a almost-full-5-pounds bucket to a friend and his fish also refused to eat. I bought this bucket from Online Pet Discounts fullfilled by Amazon. I'm not sure it was manufacture(NLS quality not consistent) fault or someone else(packed wrong pellets) but the 2mm pellets in this bucket were not the same as the 1mm pellets.

Lee's 40/55 Premium Undergravel Filter, 12-Inch by 48-Inch

this filter does its job delivfery was good also the packaging. i also purchased power heads to enhance this filter works well.

I've had a "regular" Lee's undergravel filter for my old 30 gallon tank and now this one for my 55. Both work well and I'm not sure if the grooves on this one make that much of a difference. In terms of width, this one seems to have some space between the tank and the undergravel filter though. I didn't measure to see if it was a full 48 inches, but it has more uncovered space on the tank floor than I'd like; otherwise I'd give it 5 stars. Also, as a "premium" filter, it should be made of higher quality plastic, but it doesn't have a "premium" feel for the materials. I'm not saying it's bad; it just doesn't give you the feeling that you're holding a part that could have come out of your Mercedes vs. a Honda.

It is a nice luxury to be able to add water to your marine tank without mixing. This water is great and gets the job done, however after 3 attempts at ordering it online, I have totally given up. The container that holds the water is so thin, it breaks easily in shipping and the water leaks out. I have never recieved more than 1/2 of my order in 3 attempts. 1 time UPS had to transfer the water to a 5 gallon bucket, which, without me knowing how that bucket was cleaned, I do not dare pour waterfrom that bucket into my aquarium.

Save yourself the money and get a good water jug from the camping section to use as a mixing jug for your saltwater. Be sure to get something small enough that it won't be too heavy to pick up and shake. Shaking seems to me to be the best method for mixing saltter.
