Coral Vue Technology AC20194 Xp1000s Super Reef Octopus for Aquarium Filter, 110-Gallon

Coral Vue Technology AC20194 Xp1000s Super Reef Octopus for Aquarium Filter, 110-GallonHigh quality machine that works very well. Pulls the gunk out and makes a pleasant sound. Using it in a Aqueon sump under a 65 gal. As with any skimmer with a single pump it needs to be tweaked as the water level changes. Running a 4 to 6 inch water level. All I do is turn the valve a bit each day to keep it churning. I open up the valve when I clean the cup and add water to the sump. Easy.

Lee's Ultra GravelVac, Self-Start with Nozzle & Hose Clip - 5" Mini

Lee's Ultra GravelVac, Self-Start with Nozzle & Hose Clip - 5' MiniI have 2 aquariums, one is 10 gallon and the other is 2 gallon. This works on both. I put it in the water and shake it gently a few times and the water goes up the tube no problem. Does a great job of cleaning out the gravel. No need to remove the fish, either. They just swam around while I worked. I even recommended it to my sister. I love it.

It's a siphon. If you want to siphon out water and clean the gunk out of your substrate, this is the tool to use. I use it on a ten gallon, and I like that it is simple and that it has a clip to keep it attached to the bucket. It's a less sloppy way of doing weekly water changes. Bad reviews on this guy seem to be user error.

Make sure you follow the rules of physics and that you keep an eye on the bucket, because when the siphon starts, the water flows quickly. When you are siphoning the gravel, push the rim of the cylinder straight down to the bottom of the tank like a cookie cutter. Don't move it side to side or you will disturb the sediment and make your tank temporarily cloudy and raise up toxic junk from the substrate.

Buy Lee's Ultra GravelVac, Self-Start with Nozzle & Hose Clip - 5" Mini Now

For it to be a 5" mini, you need to take the vaccuum part off which negates the lower water flow needed to clean a smaller nano tank. In the more detailed description it says it is 2.1"x6.5"x15.5." In real life, the end of the vacuum end is 3.5" across, not 2.1" and it stands 7" tall. Since it needs to be fully submerged to work, it will not work in my low-water level aquarium. Also, 3.5" across seemed a bit wide to manuever around all my plants well. Do not know how long the hose is since I did not open it. Seller gave quick and full refund incl. leaving a voice mail to let me know. Delivery was extremely fast. However, if I had known its true dimensions, I would have known it would not work for me and would not have ordered it in the beginning.

I purchased this product to clean the gravel in my aquariums (I have 2 10 gal tanks). Even though it appears to be based on the simple practice of syphoning-it is very difficult to get the syphon to work. I tried several different methods (including the one on the package) and couldn't get it going. Instead I had a huge mess on my hands with water everywhere.

There are more complicated and higher priced syphons available. Perhaps one of these will work better. This one just doesn't work.

CaribSea Phos Buster Pro for Fresh or Salt Water, 8-Ounce

CaribSea Phos Buster Pro for Fresh or Salt Water, 8-Ouncebest thing out there, saved my fish. i got tiered of changing filter media to control phosphate level. great product, Too bad petland does not sell it.

It took a lot of work, but I finally discovered that my freshwater algae problems were being caused by high phosphate levels in my tap water. A phosphate medium in my canister filter did not fix the problem, but a blast of PhosBuster Pro once a month is doing the trick. I can't use traditional algae control products as they are hazardous for my Cobalt Lobster. I have no idea why it is so expensive, but it was worth every penny!

Ribbed Tubing for Fluval 104, 105, 204, 205 Filters - 8.5 ft

Ribbed Tubing for Fluval 104, 105, 204, 205 Filters - 8.5 ftFits my Fluval 206 perfect to replace a hose I cut trying to put on an in-line heater that didn't work!

This tubing was hard to find at brick and mortar pet shops. Allowed me to modify my current filter effortlessly.

Buy Ribbed Tubing for Fluval 104, 105, 204, 205 Filters - 8.5 ft Now

I have to say that I have used a few different canister filters and the Fluval's tubing always bothered me, while other companies use basic clear plastic tubing, fluval decides to use ribbed tubing that is very difficult to fit with attachments unless you buy THEIR rubber couplings sold separately. I have used Aquatop filters easily with PVC pipes and fittings you can get at any home depot for pennies. Fluval stuff you need to buy online for $5-$10 each.

You be the judge.

Eheim Aquastyle Nano Aquarium 6 Gallon 24 Liter Complete Kit - Eheim AEH6402370

Eheim Aquastyle Nano Aquarium 6 Gallon 24 Liter Complete Kit - Eheim AEH6402370What a great aquarium. I searched everywhere and looked at so many my head was spinning. Finally decided on the Nano. Comes with everything you need to get started but the fish, plants and gravel.

Perfect choice. Small footprint, filter works very well and is EZ to clean. Light height and placement is adjustable (also comes off easily when cleaning the tank). And the bonus ... the fish look a little magnified on the corners due to the curved glass.

I have the 6 gal. If I had to do it again I would go for the 9 gal. Not very much larger (maybe 1" wider, higher), and would hold more fish & plants.

Filters and media tough to find. Do a Google search. Wound up finding it at BBB online, not in store.

One negative: Comes with a glass top (yea). It rests on top BUT it comes with little plastic grippers that fall off fast, often, and get lost quick. I put tiny pieces of Velcro on each corner. Doesn't get near the fish (safe), works like a charm and not very visible.

If space is limited, you are OK with 5-6 fish and you want a standout aquarium this is a winner.

My tank looks gorgeous; most fun I've had in a long time. All fish & plants from Fishtown, Ramsey, NJ:

Got these b/c they add activity and don't count toward your fish count:

4 red shrimp (they are real characters with 10 pair of legs they swim wildly to the top, dangle from the plants and eat some of the food that falls to the bottom)

2 snails (keeps glass clean, take care to get snails not pre-disposed to multiply alot)

1 sucker (for algae, not a catfish, has a stripe on his back, don't remember the name, )

Fish:

(7 vs. 6 recommended for tank. 1extra b/c most are small and I'll likely lose 1)

2 honey gourami's (1.5" long but nice and wide so they stand out, grow to 2"+/-pretty yellow and orange)

2 fancy endlers (3/4", grow to about 1" max., elaborate tails)

1 blue endler (v. small, grows to 1", blue is hard to find)

1 unknown endler (v. small)

1 small black molly (small, grows to about 1")

Plants:

All live. Some float with long roots hanging down, 2 tall narrow swaying plants, 2 short wide leaf.

Other:

Natural gravel (small). A few small fun-shaped rocks I found in the garden (boil them first), and one big hollow black rock with holes for fish to swim in & out.

Watch out for rogue snails. I use a net to put fish in my tank, avoiding putting the store water in (don't want snail eggs again).

Have fun!!!

Aquarius Aq25000 Aquarius 2-1/2 Corner Tank 2-1/2-Gallon Aquarium Kit

Aquarius Aq25000 Aquarius 2-1/2 Corner Tank 2-1/2-Gallon Aquarium KitI have a version of this tank and there is no need to cut a space in the hood to accomodate a filter; as the description says, it's an internal filter, not a traditional HOB (hang on back) filter. My filter is slightly different than the one pictured, but internal filters generally have suction cups on the back to attach the filter inside the tank, directly to the back side works best with mine. Hope this helps.

Overall the tank quality is nice. The hood is ok but fits cheaply upon the top of the tank (kinda loose and slightly warped, which could correct itself over time I suppose). My major complaint however is that the description put the height at 11.2". I have 12" clearance in the place where I want it and with the hood the height is actually 13"... not 11.2. I thought this measurement must be for the tank alone w/o the hood, but nope... the tank is 10.5. So anyhow, either I return it or find a new spot. Also thought it was misleading to call it a "corner" tank which to me implies that the point of it will fit into a corner leaving a flat front to admire your fish...no... the flat side goes against the wall or corner and you view the fish through the pointy end of the triangle if you can imagine what I mean. My last complaint is that there is no instruction on how to adapt the hood to allow the filter... no one else seems to have complained about this so perhaps we were just missing some instructions. It is our first tank so maybe we just don't have the basic knowledge needed to fit the filter on? I don't know. I looks like you actually have to get a small saw out and cut a back portion of the hood open so that the filter can hang from the back. Otherwise, the hood definitely won't fit snug. I think I'm talking myself out of this tank as I type this... the hunt continues!

I bought this tank for my daughter's gold fish. I was tired of cleaning out the fishbowl all the time so it was time to upgrade to something with a filter.

The tank is big enough for two fish. Maybe three if you push it. Be advised, though, that the filter is probably a little over-powered for this size of tank and creates quite a strong current for the fish to work through to get around. I've started unplugging the filter while I sleep so they can get a break from the current for a while.

My daughter thinks the LED light setup is pretty neat. There are many different color settings to choose from constant color/alternating colors, etc.

I'm not sorry I bought this thing and I'ts not bad for what I spent on it.

biOrb Ceramic Media - 2 lb. Bag

biOrb Ceramic Media - 2 lb. BagThis ceramic media is attractive and allows easy water flow for the biOrb filter. It supposedly allows bacteria to grow and maintain water quality and clarity but I didn't see this. It is quite expensive but appears to be very durable so it will last quite a while.

these rocks paired with stress zyme have totally cleared up my new betta tank. I thought i would never get it to be completely clear. But very glad this worked out for me and my fish!

I had bought some of this product years ago and use it in my canister filter for my freshwater aquarium. It hasn't broken down so I continue to use it. I love the look of it as it looks like saltwater live rock (but is a lot lighter kinda like lava rock). Biologically it probably works about as good as ceramic noodles or similar. I add bacteria every once in awhile to keep up the growth levels.

All-Glass Aquarium Black 24" Fluorescent Strip Lite

All-Glass Aquarium Black 24' Fluorescent Strip LiteWorked on our aquarium for about three months then just stopped. Not sure what went wrong. I will contact the seller and see if I can return it but that's probably a long shot. Very frustrating.

Update 9/27/12: Like a fool, I bought another thinking it was a fluke the first time. It happened again after a few months. Do not buy this product. The quality is just horrible. I bought a bulb first, think it was that. What a waste.

Like the previous reviewer, I am disappointed that the fixture didn't last longer. I will look elsewhere for the replacement.

Rena 707 LG100 Automatic Fish Feeder

Rena 707 LG100 Automatic Fish FeederIt could be better; however, all things considered one of the better ones available. I see that Rena does not list this on their website. Maybe it's not a product they are particularly proud of. The best feeder I have found is the Food Timer by YINSHENG which is not available on Amazon or anywhere else online that I have been able to find. This Rena feeder has one main advantage to that one in that it holds about 3 times as much food. However, it costs almost 3 times as much, too.

Pros:

1. Holds more food than any other practical feeder that I have seen on the market.

2. It warms the food to help keep it dry. This seems like a better system than the Eheim Feed-Air which I understand is supposed to blow a current of air through the food. (The Feed-Air I got seems defective in this way.)

3. Very simple to program, 1 to maybe 6 button presses maximum. Program it once and you'll never read the instructions again. This is partly made possible by the light sensing feature, so that it will only feed when there is light, a fair bit of light I might add.

4. Good mounting solutions.

5. Comes with a power adapter, but there is no option to use batteries, and this generates a couple of cons. Note that it would not be possible to warm the food using batteries.

Cons:

1. It loses it's programing and defaults to feeding once every 12 hours with any power outage, no mater how brief. It most likely only feed once every 24 hours if it was set not to feed at night. This could result in some very hungry fish if your away for a couple of weeks depending on the fish you keep.

2. If using more than one feeder on a large tank both feeders will start dumping food at the same time after a power outage, i.e. 12 hours after the outage.

3. It's loud, loud enough for long enough that you would not be able to hear if you were on a phone call in the same room.

4. The power adapter supplied is 110v only. Plug it into 220v by accident and your buying another adapter. Not a problem in North America, but it is in many other counties.

Conclusion: I'll try to find something better before I buy another one.

I am very happy I bought this item, not only has it taken the stress of worrying if the fish have been fed or not, it also has decreased their agressiveness. I assume because now they are on a very strict schedule with the automatic feeder. It also works great with their pellets and flakes.

Buy Rena 707 LG100 Automatic Fish Feeder Now

Had it for over a month now and it works just fine. No batteries, programable and it doesn't clog. I have it mounted to the top of the filter cover (it' a bit large). The whole drum rotates and you can hear it when it's feeding time.

Read Best Reviews of Rena 707 LG100 Automatic Fish Feeder Here

Well this is not design for a Aquarium with a top lid. The tape strips does not support the weight of the feeder. It is difficult to set the amount of feeding to be consistent. Since it is on top of the aquarium it tends to get wet just from the water evaporation. At this price I would had expected something better. Check the reviews outside of Amazon before you buy.

Want Rena 707 LG100 Automatic Fish Feeder Discount?

I got this one about a year ago and it worked great for the longest time.

There was a lot of complaint that the feeder had no battery backup and it would reset if there was a power outage so I simply hooked it up to a battery backup and that solved that problem. I lived in Florida at the time and the lightning storms in the summer gave us plenty of power outages (10 seconds would reset it)

However recently it started turning off randomly, it appears there is a loose connection somewhere that makes it flicker sometimes. When this happen then it will either reset to feed every 12 hours, a couple of times it just stay off and there it happened twice that it just kept spinning till it had emptied all the food out in the aquarium.

If using it I'd recommend checking it very often and replace it as soon as it is starting to fail, having no food or suddenly weeks worth of food dumped into the aquarium will not help your fish. I got this one as I travel a lot and didn't want to rely on having anyone constantly coming to feed my fish.

Zoo Med Floating Aquarium Log, Mini

Zoo Med Floating Aquarium Log, MiniI was raising tadpoles and they needed something to cling to as they developed lungs. This mini log was the answer. It was small enough for the tiny froglets to latch onto. Unfortunately, I bought a larger log for the bigger tank and lost some froglets because they could not climb on top of it. However, I definitely recommend the mini, no matter how large the tank is.

Marina Multi-Vac Battery Powered Vacuum

Marina Multi-Vac Battery Powered VacuumI just bought the TOM Mr. Cleaner from Amazon

TOM Aquarium Maintenance Mr. Cleaner Battery Operated Gravel Siphon

and it turns out to be identical to this product. Not similar, identical.

Buy the TOM Mr. Cleaner from Amazon cheaper.

By the way, it really cleans my aquapod gravel well.

I use the vac attachment only to clean the gravel in a 5 gal and 20 gal freshwater aquariums. The vac does a decent job on both tanks. Well worth the price. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the plastic parts/attachments are fragile and it does drip from the top of the main intake shaft just above the water level line which is not a big deal.

Buy Marina Multi-Vac Battery Powered Vacuum Now

I'm writing this review only because the other two were so negative. This product works very well for draining the water from an aquarium. It is better than any other siphon I have tried so far. The battery powered feature is more convenient than a manual siphon, and can be started in very shallow water (provided you find a good angle for the siphon and hose in order to get the siphon action started). Keep in mind that you need to buy an appropriate length of 1/2 inch diameter hose seperately.

Cleaning your tank without changing the water is a very efficient way to keep it clean and maintain a healthy inviroment. This cleaner provides everything nessecary, the handling is good, everything fits and works, it is doing it's job.

The not so nice thinks about it: It's a little weak the pump is not sucking very powerful in a 50 gal. tank (I have seen better!), it takes just a long time to clean. And the cleaning head for walls is just a joke, not working at all but I like the idea!

Petco 3" Aquarium Net for Brine Shrimp

Petco 3' Aquarium Net for Brine ShrimpI bought this at Petco in person. I use it for all of my fish because, since it's made for delicate brine shrimp, the net material is very fine and soft. This is good for all types of fish and prevents damaging their fins and scales when moving them. Most nets made for fish are quite rough, so I prefer this net.
